Have been ocean cruising for a few years now and thought we would give river cruising a try. We saw Jane Mcdonald on a Danube river cruise, liked the itinery, so started looking around. Viking seemed to get a lot of excellent reviews, nothing negative that we could find, so we booked with them. First off, they posted a nice personalised brochure to us. I logged onto their website and reserved our trips-don't worry if you forget this, you are automatically reserved on each of the included excursions and can change these at anytime, even on board. The meet up with the Viking rep at the airport and coach trip to the ship is very smooth.Once on the coach you won't touch your luggage again until its delivered to your cabin. On arrival we were shown around the ship and our cabin, and (depending on the time you arrive) were directed to a wine and cheese tasting event to get things going. The cabin was bigger than I expected, at least the same as on ocean cruises. Spotlessly clean and nicely decorated. Bottled water every day. Food was very good. Great choices with local variations at each port. Wine and beer included with every lunch and dinner. Waiters are mainly Philippino, very cheerful and clearly enjoy working for Viking. Nothing is too much trouble. Entertainment is obviously different to on an ocean cruise but the singers, musicians, and Tim our entertainment Director, are of very good quality and perfect for a ship of this size. Be prepared to join in, it makes for a great evening. Tim must eat Duracell batteries for breakfast, he's a human dynamo. The excursions are excellent, they run so smoothly and are fabulous. Water bottles are handed out as you leave the ship, so no getting dehydrated. No photographer on board (hooray! ), no sales pitches,no gym, a small onboard shop for those who collect memorabilia. Basically, what you pay for the cruise is virtually all you need to budget for, no nasty surprises. And no children on board! We are definitely using Viking again, we only need to decide where to go! Although we had been on several ocean cruises with other lines, this was our first river cruise. It coincided with our 40th wedding anniversary and we wanted something special. We boarded the ship and immediately felt welcome. The crew was awesome. No need went unmet. Unlike the ocean cruises, we were part of a small group - 180+ passengers. By the end of the cruise, we'd gotten to meet almost everyone and formed special friendships with several. The Captain, at first, gave the impression of a gruff exterior but soon revealed a warm and friendly person. He invited us to visit the bridge to see how they navigated and welcomed the passengers to visit as long when things weren't too busy. The entire crew was very friendly - from the captain to the cooks and deck hands. Our cabin was kept fresh and stocked by a delightful young lady. Of particular note was the Cruise Director - Bujon (I'm sure I spelled that wrong). He went out of his way to insure everyone had a great time. His personality couldn't be better suited for the job. Always a ready smile. The dining experience was also delightful with special attention to dietary restrictions. The dining room staff was very friendly and pleasant to work with. The food never failed to please the palate. We couldn't have asked for a better 40th Anniversary celebration! Read Less

I'm a solo traveler, and would definitely take this tour again. It's my favorite Viking cruise to date! The Bordeaux region is fabulous - I'd recommend it whether or not you love wine! I'd highly recommend the pre-cruise tour of the Loire Valley. All of the towns and villages throughout the cruise were so enjoyable - picking up a baguette from the local boulangerie and fresh cheeses at the fromagerie, picking out treats at the master chocolatiers, buying tulips for my room at the farmers market, and, of course, visiting wineries and top notch wine shops with a full range of France's finest beverage. That's not to diminish the cognac tour! Blending our own cognac was delightful. Also made some new friends who I've enjoyed connecting with since returning home. Also: * Embarking and disembarking was a breeze. * The ship's updated cabin was comfortable and efficient. * The crew was exceptionally energetic and fun! * The food did not disappoint - good variety and options, as usual! We chose this cruise for the Christmas Markets. I did find the cabin small. Dining was delicious and the staff are wonderful. Very attentive. All excursions are handled with every detail considered and taken care of. The ship is beautiful and well maintained. We were always greeted when leaving and returning to the ship. There was always water bottles available to take, and sometimes we were greeted with a treat! Everyday was filled with an excursion, whether it be by bus or walking tour. Tours were small groups and each group had its own guide. All guides were local and very knowledgeable. . My first experience on a river cruise. Would definitely sail with Viking again! Our only complaint is with the air schedule for return flights. A later return flight would have allowed us to enjoy the final night/farewell with the staff and other guests. Having to awake at 2:30 am did not allow us the time to join in. Read Less

This was our 3rd cruise with Viking. All three experiences were A-1, Top Shelf, Some additiona busing on one,but we still had a fabulous time. The staff on our most recent cruise was particularly enjoyable. Mario the cruise director was knowledgeable and always ready to assist and answer any questions. The two game nights were especially entertaining. The wait staff in the dining room, were beyond delightful. Carman, one of the dining room captains, along with Chip, were a delight to be with, and they took the extra time to assure we had everything we needed. The staff in the lounge, led by head bartender Armando, and his trusty, knowledgeable duo of Robert and Matej, made sure whatever drink we desired was prepared, and prepared properly. The Chef and his staff always had a great menu planned, whether breakfast, lunch or dinner. My all time favorite, from a cruise in 2012, is the oatmeal. don't know how, but I've never tasted anything quite like it. In closing, Viking River Cruises, delivers a quality product.if you haven't been on one of their cruises, you should, you won't be diappointed. I'll be booking my next cruise later next year and can't wait to see the next adventure. Read Less

I enjoyed the cruise very much. Even with the rioting in Paris, Viking kept everyone safe and comprimised with excursions to everyone’s satisfaction. Staff was wonderful,as was all the excursions they offered. The ceremony at Normandy Beach was very moving. I don’t have any negative comments to give about this cruise. The ports and all the sights were very enjoyable. The ship was very clean and laid out very well. The food served was excellent. The embarkation and disembarkation all was very smooth, and handled very well by the ship staff. I have sailed Viking before and have two additional cruises booked right now. I would very highly recommend Viking to anyone and everyone. I recommend both the river cruises as well as the ocean cruises. The service and ports of call are all well thought out and are offered at no cost in most instances, also the free WiFi and the beverages offered for no additional cost at meal times is a great plus. Top notch experience all the way around. We were met at the airport as scheduled and the tour began without a hitch. Our cruise was unaffected by low water and we were able to complete our itinerary as scheduled. The Christmas Markets were great fun, we participated in every excursion, and met some ah-mazing people over dinner and drinks each night. Don’t miss Cesky Krumlov if given the opportunity. We toured on a Sunday so there was less traffic and we were able to enjoy “Little Prague” longer. My 20-something daughter fell in love with Budapest and can’t wait to go back for a longer stay. We chose to sit with the same waiter each evening and Vlad worked hard to remember our particular likes and dislikes. He was one of the highlights of being onboard. Our cabin was roomy enough for two and the heated bathroom floors were such a luxury. The common areas were perfect for watching the countryside as we cruised by—we enjoyed unlimited hot tea and sweets while relaxing in the lounge. During some of our downtime, we enjoyed catching up on Downton Abbey in anticipation of the movie set to be released. While we did not require a lot of staff attention, they were friendly, accommodating, informative and quite fun. Would definitely choose Viking again for river cruising and look forward to sailing with them again. Read Less

We absolutely had a fantastic time. Our cruise director, chefs etc were amazing!!! They were so kind!! The small things they did really impressed me! When arriving back from an excursion they offered hot lemon towels and hot broth or juice! I thought that was just a special touch! The food was absolutely amazing. We had a chef helping on our cruise I believe from Serbia and he would recommend certain dishes each night that we always tried and they were amazing! Along with a special thanksgiving dinner as well!! The accommodations were amazing, the captain and crew were amazing. Loved Bea, Mia, martins , the captain and all of them!!!!! I can't recommend Viking highly enough. We had an amazing time. The crew were so kind, the food was incredible and the beds were more comfortable than mine at home. I felt that the cruise was an excellent value for the money and would have expected a higher price for how good of an experience we had. I enjoyed the variety of excursions available to passengers and just relaxing on the boat as well. I get motion sick, but could not tell that we were moving. I loved being able to see the beauty of three countries while staying in one room and not having to worry about finding my way to tourist attractions or popular areas. My grandma cannot walk very far and she was still able to enjoy the trip. We chose to extend our trip with three nights in Amsterdam and I am so glad we did. The flower markets, museums and the Anne Frank House were well worth it. The only downside to the trip was that it was not longer. If anyone is considering a Viking Cruise, don't hesitate! Read Less

To start, I would like to say I feel so bad for people who booked a River Cruise, but got cheated out of their vacation due to the low water levels. I hope someday you have a trip that will more that double your expectations. Next, for those who will be traveling on the Rhine soon (Basel to Amsterdam), I want to say from the start that, Yes, the Water Levels will affect you. I say that right away, because I wish someone was honest enough to tell me that from the start. Instead, I got cryptic emails from Viking. I then call them as the website suggests for updates, and they tell me I'm doing the right thing by trying to stay informed and to call as it gets closer to the day to find out about water levels. I called the day before I was going to leave and the cruise representative I spoke to had to put me on hold two times just to come back on the phone to tell me that they are still unsure if my trip would be affected by the low water levels. Now that I have gone through the Rhine River cruise, I can tell you with certainty that your cruise will be affected. Even if it rained for a week, I don't think that would be enough to help the water levels. Let me put it this way, there were parts of the river that I could walk on. On the very first night when the Cruise Director welcomed us aboard, he said "I know you are all concerned about the water levels, but we won't know if we have to swap ships until the night before". Then, the captain got up, and made his welcome speech and said, "Yes, you will be affected". At least someone was telling the truth. The Cruise Director though, still insisted we won't really know till the day before. Then sure enough, on the day before, he explained that due to the low levels we would have to "Swap Ships". A lot of people had questions of course, but the Cruise Director stopped the Q&A session after a certain point stating it was time for dinner. Myself and other passengers realize there is nothing they could do about the water levels, but we didn't appreciate being left in the dark. The Ship Swap meant we had to pack up before our tour of the day, and at the end of the day we would be 'bussed' to a new Viking ship, Tialfi, that was docked where the water levels would allow us to continue travelling to Amsterdam. The passengers from the other ship would then be bussed to our old ship. Our luggage would already be in our new ship, same rooms #'s, however, different crew, which was another disappointment, because I had gotten to know the crew members on Viking Alruna. We didn't mind packing up again, but what I did mind was skipping a port, Koblenz Germany. And even though Viking committed to making sure we got to go on all the included tours, the ship swap meant that we would not be able to go on the optional tours. I was very disappointed, because I was really looking forward to having dinner at the Eberbach Monastery. The low water levels also meant we couldn't do the "Middle Rhine Sailing" portion on our ship. We had to take a 2 1/2 bus ride to board a smaller boat that would allow us to cruise in the low water levels of the Middle Rhine. Note, the food on this non-Viking boat was "Horibleeeee" ! (A dry piece of Chicken (no sauce or anything) that was inedible with french fries - I just ate the fries). The Middle Rhine cruise itself, however, was magnificent, with memorable views of castles & fortresses. This is probably my favorite part of the whole Trip ! After cruising the Middle Rhine, we toured Marksburg castle, and then had a 3 1/2 hour bus ride to our new ship. They handed out lunch bags with a sandwich & fruit for the bus ride. Despite all the disappointment associated with the water levels, I still give Viking a 3 star, because the crew was amazing, the food was amazing, and the included tours, although short (Not enough time on your own), were really amazing. (I'll do separate reviews with tips on each of the ports). Also, Viking is very organized with the Embarkation and Disembarkation process. They will give thorough instructions and help you if you need guidance. I realize Viking and other cruise companies can not do anything about the water levels, however they can do something about treating passengers "Fairly" and with respect. I just wish they were truthful about the trip up front. I also wish the 25% credit off our next cruise "due to the disruption in our itinerary", would have been applied to the Current cruise - that would have made more sense, and have been a more sincere gesture. We have always wanted to visit China to see the difference in cities, culture and landscapes! This Cruise/Land Tour trip was the perfect way to do that. In the two weeks that we were there we saw 6 megacities, flew three domestic flights within China along with experiencing their airlines and airports, in addition to the 7 night, 6 day cruise on the Yangtze river! -Embarkation went smoothly except for a minor glitch of delayed luggage due to customs holding up one bus temporarily. This is not the fault of the cruise staff and we still left on time. Disembarking was a breeze as was transferring to and from the many airports and hotels. Never had to deal directly with our luggage until the time came to check baggage for our return flight home from Beijing! -The hotel accommodations were unbelievably top notch! All were 5*+ and we felt that the Ritz-Carlton in Shanghai and the Wyndham in Xian were the nicest rooms we've ever stayed in! -The food on board the ship and in all the restaurants was phenomenal. So many opportunities to try new and unusual dishes that we'd never heard of or had before. The only "problem" was there was always too much! -Service aboard the ship was excellent from the cabin attendant to our wonderful waitress Alice and waiter in the dining room. Many are multitalented and also provide the passengers with evening entertainment shows! Any requests of staff were handled efficiently and with a smile. -A variety of onboard activities were offered, from experiencing a tea ceremony explanation, having a silk garment made to talks by the tour director and explanations by local experts on the history, culture and sites as we made our way on Yangtze for six days. -The shore excursions and land tours were equally eye opening, everything I expected and so much more! Visiting a 2nd grade classroom in an elementary school was one of many opportunities to interact one on one with the people. The tours did require some physical activity and walking. Climbing 12 floors to the top of a temple, watching the giant pandas in the Chongquin Zoo, exploring the Three Gorges dam and Terra Cotta warriors in Xian. The Three Gorges on the Yangtze were amazing with a chance to see up close one the most beautiful gorges from a Sampan! Walking on the Great Wall may have been the highlight however. There were just so many sites and experiences in this trip! We have been to many places in the world but we both agree that this is probably the most memorable trip we've taken! -The advantages of having a tour director with our group the whole two weeks was unbelievable. Our tour director Roy for our group of 36 people was Amazing. He did everything and I mean everything! He handled every little detail so that we could just enjoy ourselves. He made the difference between a good trip and an unbelievably excellent trip and he should be commended many times over. Read Less

The staff members we encountered were always cheerful, courteous and helpful. Our room was kept neat and clean. The lobby and other common areas were always in tip-tip shape. Shore excursions were well planned, and were led by knowledgeable guides. The shore excursion venues that were selected by Viking were thoughtfully chosen. We would had like to have had some additional 'free time' during our trip to explore on our own. Meals on board were always excellent! The preparation and presentation were top notch! Evening entertainment was good. We traveled with my brother and sister-in law, but we also met many interesting people on the boat. The scenery was beautiful. We highly recommend this river cruise. We liked the opportunity to choose from a variety of excursions each day...even creating some of our own...with the assistance of Viking staff. Food was great. Planning help for pre cruise was good All made for a fun and happy time for us. We traveled to Bordeaux several days prior to our cruise and explored on our own. When we arrived at the airport to drop off our car, Viking hosts greeted us and provided transportation to our ship. The daily excursions were informative, interesting, and often included wine and food. The cuisine on board the ship reflected the French culture. A few days prior to our departure we were advised by Viking that the river levels were low and we might have to change ships, transfer from ship to ship by motor coach and might have to spend a night in a hotel. Sure enough this all took place. Our outstanding and very professional your director, Marie, accompanied us every step of the way. Viking did an excellent job under very adverse conditions over which they had no control but we're extremely well prepared for. With there large number of wonderful identical ships, there were no problems. We had the same room number on both ships. Our last night in Budapest was spent in a shout star hotel. Again, Marie was with us and we felt very well cared for. When we had got skip one port, she arranged for a substitute tour. While we were docked in Vienna, along with 30 or so other ships, I had a chance to walk along and look at other ships. I did not see any ship that I thought was as good as it better than the Viking ships. Our ship was bright, fresh, spotless at all times and the entire crew, with no exceptions, was wonderful. The layout of the ship was excellent. We loved the lounge, where we could relax with our rea, coffee or hot chocolate and enjoy the scenery through the full length windows. We could eat at the buffet there or go down to the dining room. The good was outstanding. Every evening before dinner our tour director briefed us for the next day's events and then the chief would brief us on the evening's menus. We always had three complete menus to choose from - the features menu, a menu with foods typical of the area we were in and a standard menu with steaks and more American selections. We could choose whatever we wanted and it was all excellent. Rooms in all river boats are small due to the size restrictions of the ship. We were in the smallest room and were quite comfortable as we spent little time there as, when we weren't sleeping, we were out enjoying the scenery. The included yours were guided by locals and were excellent. We were all given "quiervoxes" which enabled us to hear the guide from a distance. Overall, Viking is THE BEST. In spite of the problems caused by the low river levels, we felt well cared for and got out money's worth. We were already planning our next Viking cruise when we received a letter informing us that we would be given a discount on our next cruise. We booked that cruise the next day. Read Less

We chose a river cruise because we wanted to travel by boat and expected to enjoy the views along the river and have the luxury of not unpacking daily. the reality of our vacation was that viking was not upfront with us about the water levels along the danube. we called the week before our departure and were told that there were no changes to our itinerary. we received an email thirty minutes before boarding our flight to europe stating that we were going on a different longship because of the low water levels. like other travelers that have posted reviews about low water levels, we feel that we were deceived by viking personnel. Each time that we were unable to make it to the next port, we were informed the night before with the comment “just a few inches makes all the difference!” well, here is my observation....those bushes that are growing in the middle of the danube did not just pop up over night! viking has been pulling the wool over traveler’s eyes for a long time! they string the customer along day by day and pretend as if this is something new. One day we spent three hours traveling on a bus to go from one ship to another. it also took us two and a half hours on the bus to go see passau from the remote location of the ship. in fact, in two days we rode for 6 hours on a bus! Another day passengers had to ride a bus for one and a half hours to budapest and then back to the boat that evening. Ten people from our group decided we could not take another bus ride. we decided not to take the 90 minute bus ride to budapest and opted instead to walk around the town where we were docked. (komarno, slovakia) our captain and activities director met with us the night before and said we would be docked until the next evening. the following day when the others were bussing to budapest, we took a tour in komarno and had lunch before walking back to the ship. we were shocked to discover that our ship had sailed without us, knowing that they had briefed the passengers that we would be at this location until the evening. they knew we were off the ship, but they sailed anyway with only 4 passengers. We had to take taxis to the new location and were quite upset. The point of this review is not the there were low water levels, it’s that viking is deceptive in their approach. viking tells people daily that there are no changes to the itinerary when they know they are never going to make the schedule as planned. yes, you will get to the cities, but you will be logging a lot of bus time and not very much sailing time. After returning home, i contacted viking customer service. i was not satisfied with our conversation. they seem to take the approach that they can’t control the water levels. what they can control is their approach and they should be less deceptive! it appears that they offer some of their dissatisfied customers different “deals.” based on their perception of your inconvenience, some customers get a higher percentage off of a future cruise and some are even offered a shipboard credit. Overall a well rounded experience. Everything went smoothly and appreciated the staff caring for one guest at a time, even in the group excursions. The facilities were comfortable and cruising was gentle. only problem was when another ship would park next to ours and we would lose the view and some privacy. The food was very good, good variety and reflected the region and country. The entertainment completed well the day experience. The included shore excursions were very didactic and made interesting by the tour guides. They were appropriate and we did not go on any optional tours. We knew people who had gone on the same trip. We were considering a Viking river trip and this one was what we wanted. We were able to see the Ann Frank house in Amsterdam, which is something we had really wanted to do. We were glad to have that extra time at the beginning of our trip to explore Amsterdam a bit before embarking on our cruise. The ship, Saadi, was great. Our cabin, while not big, was comfortable and clean, and the maid who took care of our room did an excellent job every day! The food on board was wonderful— never any reason to be hungry! It seemed that all the waiters/waitresses would do anything to accommodate us. We were pleased that there was evening entertainment provided and we especially enjoyed the trivia contests! And the ports and shore excursions were all well planned. Our tour director, Stein, was great— he was very organized and kept everything, including all of us, on time. We enjoyed all of the ports and shore excursions, especially Salzburg (Sound of Music) and Vienna. We hadn’t read the optional tour description carefully enough and were surprised when we had a Viennese waltz lesson included in our tour! Even with the low water levels, having to change ships, and not having a full day in Budapest, we really enjoyed everything about the trip. We definitely would go on another Viking river trip. We had great time on our cruise. I travel with several mature gal friends. A little disappointed in the tour of Amsterdam, I would suggest paying for a canal boat tour over the free walking tour. In addition to the great tours in each city, we enjoyed kicking up our heals in the lounge in the evening, dancing and singing along with the piano man. The water levels were up so we had smooth sailing. The ship was clean, the cabins were nice, the lounge was great fun. The service staff was attentive. We had excellent waiters and waitresses. The food was very good. ( I wish we could have a dining table assigned.) The long, uphill walk to one of the castles almost did me in, but I'm overweight and under fit. The two week, Grand European River Cruise appealed to us much more than a weeklong cruise. We believed it would allow us to “settle in” without immediately counting how many days we had left. And “settle in” we did. We began in Amsterdam after a four day jet jag adjustment in Amsterdam. Embarkation was efficient and welcoming, and the wine tasting on the Aquavit Terrace was a grand introduction. We were immediately impressed with our stateroom, and the overall condition and appearance of the Viking Longboat. Exceeding both were the professionalism and warmth of the ship’s staff. The variety of food and beverage selections ensured there was something for everyone. Service was outstanding, as was the quality of the meals, from breakfast through dinner. Shore excursions offered were varied and appropriate. Guides were uniformly outstanding, from personality and communication skills to their professional knowledge. It was hard to depart in Budapest. We wanted the cruise to never end. We came with very high expectations, and they were exceeded in all respects. Read Less

I have been to several countries since 1992, but never to Hungary, Austria and Germany. The cruise was wonderful traveling along the Danube River. It was wonderful not having to always leave the ship to see so many interesting sights. We had an outside balcony so we could sit and enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way. We really liked the optional tours we took by bus. I had a bi-lateral knee operation two years ago and the walking tour was excellent, as I was in the leisure strollers group and I used my cane. The guides were so well versed and ready to answer any questions we had. The food was excellent and we had many dining choices such as buffet, sit down dinners and snacks and we got to choose from standard choices like hamburgs and sandwiches and ethnic foods, like Hungarian Goulash. I taught a Foods class and attended the Culinary Institute in Hyde park, N.Y., so i know what a good chef we had. I love classical music and the concert by the residence Orchestra at a castle in Vienna was wonderful. I also taught History at one time and the trip to the courtroom where the Nazis were on trial was spell binding. The guide was such an excellent speaker and during the hour we were there, the guide was spell binding. The service was excellent and if we wanted anything, such as more sauce for a meat, it arrived immediately after it was requested. I certainly would go again. I haven't been to Sweden and my Paternal Grand-Mother was born in Stockholm, so Id like go go there. Read Less

Where we were going, have done Viking before and liked it. We did explore Budapest a bit before departure. The ship is spacious and very friendly staff. We had to switch boats and the staff recommended who we should look up after switching. Shore excursions are fantastic. Informative and fun with very friendly tour guides. I would and will definitely go again. Once back on the boat there was time to relax a bit before cocktails, dinner and evening entertainment. When changing boats, the transition was as smooth as it could possibly have been. The food on board was all very good. There were plenty of options so everyone could have just what the wanted. We did purchase the silver drink package and it was definitely worth the money. I woill plan another Viking riverboat cruise and ocean cruise in the future. Thank you for making it such a great experience. Read Less

We checked with Viking on water levels one week before we sailed and were told "no issues." 3 days before sailing the story became a possible "ship swap" between 2 ports. The problems were far greater. Viking apparently had these issues for at least 6 prior weeks. Ship swap is a repackage for an 8am pickup then unpack after a 3 hour bus ride. Additionally, our 1.5 day stay in Vienna became .5 days. Our 1.5 day in Budapest (docked in the city) became a 1 hour city tour from a remote dock due to low water. it seemed we had to meet their needs and not ours. In 3 cities, excursions were either cancelled or minimally available. Cultural on board entertainment was a 1 hour session by musicians in Nuremburg and 3 slide shows. I kept thinking "Viking has to know they are providing far less than they advertised, what special event or alternative are they planning for us"? It never came. Instead upon our return home we received a letter offering us a credit of about $1,000 against a future cruise. Wow, what a deal. We spend another $7,500 on them and they reduce our fare by $1,000! How important do they think they are? I understand that low water levels created many of these issues, but they chose this route and possible consequences. Should they not bear some of the losses by extending other benefits to people who got less than advertised? It appears their bottom line was their most important consideration. As info, I checked with other river cruisers we met in cities we visited.Avalon went to Budapest, no issues. Tauck flipped in Nuremburg to a vessel that also went straight thru. Go figure! Read Less

We wanted a long cruise where we could truly relax. The 15 day cruise was really great. We celebrated our 40th anniversary on board. We had beautiful weather and the shore excursions were very enjoyable. Our dining experience was very nice. We were well taken care of. The stop in Nuremberg was very moving. The guides were very knowledgeable and accommodating. Our director Marie was lots of fun. She kept us all entertained. The onboard staff operated like a well tuned clock. They anticipated our every need. The front desk helped us arrange a nice bike ride along the river that was very enjoyable. I would recommend this cruise to anyone wanting a relaxed cruise along 3 different rivers. The only thing I would recommend would be the serving of local wines. While we like Argentine Malbec at home in the USA and while traveling in Argentina, we did expect European wines would be served to us at dinner. Read Less

I choose it as a first timer to Europe. To have home base and cover several countries was wonderful. The quality of the excursions exceeded our expectations. It was a terrific combination of R and R, fun and education. The staff on the cruise was outstanding. They new all of our names within a day and our favorite beverage. It was fun to see our favorites each day. We liked that it was all inclusive and paid for prior to the cruise. We didn't have to deal with charges, extras, etc. We were concerned we might be the youngest demographic on the boat but were surprised by the mix. A few younger, many older but all pretty mobile and active. The services did a nice job dividing us into groups for the daily excursions. We felt like we were with the most active group which was important to us. We look forward to our next river boat cruise. Read Less
