Chose this cruise for itinerary an Regent's reputation. Overall really beautiful ship. Very well maintained. Excellent cabin and bathroom with more storage then we could use. Outstanding food. Service was excellent and very friendly. One port of call skipped and another changed because of weather(obviously not Regent's fault). They did not handle the excursion changes well. Included excursions were average at best. Entertainment was poor. At this price point that was inexcusable. I discussed this mid-cruise with the cruise director. She mentioned the production cast changed for our cruise and were busy rehearsing and could not provide many entertainment activities during our cruise (just 2 shows in 10 nights-one of which was at 9:30 pm the night before the end of the cruise when bags needed to be out by 11 pm). I found the shows to be really dull. Very few entertainment options around the ship.Overall the entertainment was inexcusable. I wasn't given a discounted fare for the lack of the entertainment due to the need to rehearse. They should have been fully ready when the cruise started. The boat does need one dining venue which is casual at night (and not the very limited Pool Grill which is open to the elements). This is important for if you have a late arriving tour you may not want to change for dinner. Overall not worth the cruise fare. Read Less

From Italy with Love was the title of the cruise. We chose this cruise because of the ports of call. It was a birthday and anniversary cruise and Regent did not disappoint. Regent surprised me with a birthday cake and champagne upon sailing and the same on our anniversary. Personal attention is their key. The itinerary was great. We had never sailed Regent Seven Seas and have been totally spoiled with the smaller ship, service and food. The Concierge cabin is spacious and the difference between the Superior was the one night in Venice before the cruise. The transfers from airport to hotel to ship were all included and what a difference it made. When figuring the cost difference, there was no comparison to upgrade to the Concierge. We did the hotel add on at the end of the cruise. The hotels are 4-5 star and the service was wonderful. The Majestic Roma was beautiful and upon arrival and departure, Regent had reps to help. This was especially noted at the airport when Vincenzo took us from the cab right on through check in to the TSA pre-check. No matter what suite you choose, make sure to look at the deck plan to choose a cabin with the extra balcony as you will appreciate the added space. It's easily recognizable! Included items: All alcohol/beer/wine/sodas are included in the cost and the info says that your suite frig is replenished daily. Our suite was to be outfitted with alcohol/wine/soda but we had to ask our cabin attendants on a daily to replenish diet coke and wine. The specialty restaurants were included and an added bonus. It's nice to go into a bar, sit down and order a glass of wine and not get a bar bill at the end of the cruise. Excursions are also included and, for the most part, were top notch. There is no need to tip as they are also included. However, we did give a little extra to our cabin stewardesses and a few in the cocktail lounges and restaurants who went above and beyond. Read Less

We picked this ship and cruise line because we had a wonderful experience on the Explorer in 2017 going from Barcelona to Rome. We wanted to complete a trip around the boot so we started in Venice and ended up in Rome this time. Our first experience with Regent was so fun, we really didn't think it could be topped. This trip was every bit as nice and even more fun because we knew the "lay of the land" on the ship and met a lot of very nice people. The ports and excursions were great! The ship is beautiful, our suite was wonderful, the thermal suite is amazing, and the food was good! But, the best thing of all this time, as well as last time, was the friendliness, dedication, personal attention, and professionalism of the crew. We did not have (and don't need) a butler. Our room steward and assistant were wonderful and kept everything in tip top shape, attended to any requests efficiently, and smiled through it all. The service we received was excellent everywhere on the ship! We are already thinking about our next cruise and will definitely stay with Regent, because I don't think it could be any better. (Business Class air from San Francisco to Europe, pre-cruise night in a 5 star hotel with buffet breakfast, all transfers, tips, drinks, and excursions included). We definitely got spoiled! Read Less

Although I had sworn I would not sail Regent again after a terrible experience a few years back on Mariner (Istanbul-Istanbul), I was tempted by the new ship, positive comments by other cruisers and a convenient itinerary in the Med. A good price didn't hurt either! By way of background, we are regular cruisers on Seabourn (Gold) and Hapag-Lloyd Europa Gold), as well as 3 Crystal cruises (Silver (including their Yacht) and 1 Oceania Marina cruise. We are Silver on Regent. We were blown away by the pre-cruise transfers and hotel. Everything went super smoothly - plenty of staff available, private water taxi to Hotel Danieli in Venice, private water taxi to ship the next day. Air (inc. a deviation in Barcelona where we stayed longer) also very seamlessly handled. The Explorer is a beautiful ship, well laid out and with plenty of space. Although the ship was full, it never felt that way. We loved our PH (1408) - great location - and we got an excellent butler (Vinit). That is not always a given, believe me. I thought the hallway entry way space was not efficiently utilized though - a place to hang coats would be nice. Service was wonderful: consistently personable, always with a smile, attentive. They had plenty of staff, so we never waited in any of our dining venues, even when Compass Rose was full, especially after Captain's events, shows, etc. Never a problem. Dining: We were only able to secure 1 extra reservation (in Prime 7) in addition to the 3 allowed. Food was a disappointment for us. Nothing drastically wrong, just uninspired. Dishes sounded wonderful on paper, but really didn't deliver on the plate. Pacific Rim, which we really were looking forward to, was pretty watered down Asian cuisine. There were a few stand-out dishes (Miso black cod for one) but the sides were generally bad: The fried vegetable rice and the stir fried noodles (both recommended by our server) were gummy and inedible. We liked Chartreuse, Prime 7 was also fine. Compass Rose did better with standard items than adventurous ones, so if you're a steak/lobster/shrimp/repeat kind of person, I think you would be happy. Big negative for us: The wine. The first time in all my cruises, and I do mean all, that I was unsuccessful in obtaining a list (even hand written) of what complimentary wines they had. I asked our butler, our servers, every sommelier, including the head sommelier. What is important to me, as a trained Court of Masters Sommelier, is which winery the wine comes from. The 'somms' and servers I think are trained to stick to their story and not offer additional information. If you find out on your own, then you can have them if you ask. (I saw an Oyster Bay SB and an Ancient Vines Zin, for example, on another table.) Even a mid cruise comment card, detailing my woes, brought no response. I do understand that for 90% (maybe more) of the passengers, those 2 offerings per night were just fine. We're not cocktail drinkers, although we tried a couple here and there. It seems the cocktails are more the focus than wine. Explorer has many lovely bar venues with a wide range of cocktails and high quality liquor available. Shore excursions were about what you would expect from included offerings: Buses, sometimes several going to the same spot, with about 30 people per bus. Tour guides were not very good, and I was reminded of why we book independent arrangements :-). We did pay for 1 tour (to Syracuse) and it was certainly not any better than the 'free' tours. Disembarkation went as smoothly as embarkation. To sum it up, while I overall still prefer SB and Hapag Lloyd and Crystal, I would cruise with Regent again on Explorer (and possibly new ship Ovation) if the itinerary and price were right. Wouldn't do over 14 days though - food and wine not good enough to stay longer. Read Less

We have sailed three times on the Voyager and were anxious to sail on the new Explorer. From the moment we were met by Regent at the airport to disembarkation, the serviceand quality in all aspects of the cruise exceeded our expectations. The transfers from airport to hotel to ship were smooth and efficient. We were greetedon board with champagne, and for the next two weeks enjoyed the friendly, courteous and helpful crew personnel, especially the wait staff, concierge, cruise director and butler. The service was top-notch. We liked the all-inclusiveness of Regent cruises, and thequality of restaurants, entertainment and excursions was the best we've encountered. That includes sailing with Seabourn and Silversea. Not only was the decor in all the public areas of the ship luxurious, but the artwork wasunsurpassed. The Canyon Ranch spa and staff were excellent. We are looking forward to another Mediterranean cruise in October with friends we areanxious to introduce to Regent. Read Less

Amazing new ship! excellent amenities! Food excellent in all restaurants! Make sure you make reservations online prior to sailing Concierge cabin huge with double sinks we had them put two loungers on the deck The cooking class was a blast! love the excursions were not packed the cons were minor there are no paper starbucks type coffee cups to take out on to the deck or off the ship there is no evian water ! We were in venice for the day night prior to sailing an amazing hotel and city! Would have been nice to be in venice proper rather than an island we had to take a water shuttle to get to during the trips into venice The shows and theater were amazing for a small ship the service was above and beyond any other cruise line spa sauna wasn't very hot infrared heat! Overall worth the price point as all is included everything is top notch! Read Less

My wife and I have just returned from a wonderful Mediterranean cruise on the RSS Explorer, it certainly lived up to all expectations and even surpassed some. The suite we had chosen (Concierge) was perfect, very comfortable bed, good sized suite with an exceptional balcony, lovely bathroom nice amenities and a perfect walk in closet and a well-stocked mini-bar, enjoying my G&T on the balcony each evening. Dining on board was a delight, we dined at all the restaurants on board, our favourites were Sette Mari at La Veranda and Prime7 and overall we had wonderful meals at every restaurant we dined at with lovely wines. I also liked very much the fact that as with some lines they have formal nights (Black Tie) with RSSC it is smart casual. Excursions - varied from okay to excellent. The only criticism about the excursions was the time they started, the majority of the excursions began at 08:00-08:15 am. This was far too early. The ideal start time I believe would have been 09:15 allowing for time to begin the day and have some breakfast. One area I particularly liked was the café area where it was a relaxed and great place to grab a snack or drink. The ship never felt full of passengers, never having to queue at the pool grill at lunch time, plenty of areas to sit on the top decks and always attentive service from the friendly international staff. The cruise is certainly geared towards the American market though we were pleased there was Sky and BBC World news on the TV for the European passengers, and three UK papers in the library printed daily, good touch. The Wi-Fi is patchy to say the least and annoying to keep logging in every time you leave the ship. Yes there are a few areas you could complain about, such as the water served at tea time in the observation lounge could be hotter, or the WI-FI to be improved but these are minor complaints. Once you see what is included compared to other cruise lines this surpasses many. Pros - Mostly everything Cons – Early excursions Overall I would highly recommend a cruise with RSS, this being our first cruise we are already planning in a few years to save up for a future cruise sailing to Canada/New England and will no doubt book with RSSC. This is our 4th Regent cruise. The fact that the Regent Seven Seas Explorer was a new ship was nice but we chose this cruise for the itinerary - Istanbul to Israel via the Greek Isles and Egypt but mostly for the Egypt portion which was 2 ports. Istanbul was cancelled well in advance and the ship was rerouted out of Venice. The Egypt portion was then cancelled AFTER the refund policy period. Very suspiciously timed. Embarkation was a long walk from the port entrance with no shuttle service offered which I would have expected given it was Regent. Average age is higher - luxury cruise plus timing. 3 children on board, all very well behaved. This is not a kid cruise. Public areas - Beautiful decorative details with marble and glass. There is lots of room between seats. Lots of space. Pool area deck lounges were padded and plentiful with double lounges and covered lounges. There was lots of room between chairs and tables in lounges, dining, public areas. Cabin - Our cabin was category G2, suite 881 located on the aft end of the ship. The miscellaneous details and decor were very nice - glass front cabinetry, marble floors and the best cruise ship bed we've ever been in. The floor space of the balcony was larger on the back end of the ship but due to the slope of the solid railing the usable portion was similar to others of the same category. The railing on the back is solid vs the suites on port and starboard which you can see through. The cabin was not as large as expected but the bathroom is quite a nice size with a large shower. The TV was oddly placed in front of the bed vs the couch so you had to be in bed to watch TV which makes it impossible for one person to stay up and watch a movie while the other one sleeps. The movie selection was very good. No CNN or ESPN but there was BBC, CNBC and MSNBC Food/Dining - the quality was good and plentiful with an incredible selection. Compass Rose was the main dining and very noisy which I would have expected to be muffled given the pickiness of some of the other details put into the ship. You could ask for a table in the back where the ceilings were lower making it quieter for a better dining experience. The menu was very good in Compass Rose and once we found the quiet place, we preferred it. Seti Mari was our first choice due to their appetizer buffet and dinner being off the menu and served. But Seti Mari became busier as the cruise went on and there was quite a wait to get in. Hint - go early or you may have to wait. Breakfasts and lunches at la Veranda had good selections and the produce was good quality. The pool buffet was a smaller selection but you could order off a menu for a better selection. The specialty dining venues were nice and very popular but other than one visit each, we opted for the non-reservation venues. Service - They boast a higher crew per passenger but we found that too many people reduced the service. Sometimes the staff was tripping over each other and sometimes they ignored thinking someone else had already taken care of it. Overall the staff was very nice and helpful but efficiency was not their strong suit. Entertainment - The main show room is poorly designed with many obstructed seats not only from support poles but from balcony overhangs and security railings. We attended one lecture and one show. We walked out of the show due to quality. They did have a strings group and a piano entertainer which we enjoyed at other venues. Excursions - they had a nice selection of excursions and the staff was very accommodating to changes. Spa Facilities - While we are not typically spa people, this spa was fabulous. Overall we enjoyed the cruise. It was still a Regent luxury quality cruise which is premium to mass market cruise lines which we also take as we are itinerary driven. Given the right itinerary, we will take Regent again. Read Less

Explorer from Venice to Haifa Overall the Explorer experience was very good, though similar in many ways to the other Regent ships. The F1 cabin was excellent, roomy with a large balcony. Shower was good sized. There was a bathtub which I didn’t use. There were two sinks in the bathroom, making it very user-friendly for two people. There is no night light. For a ship filled with mostly older people, the lack of a night light seems hazardous and a lapse in planning. If the bathroom door is not closed, then the door to the cabin can hit the bathroom door when it is opened. There was already an area of damage to the paint on the cabin door caused by the doors colliding. The ship was in great condition, of course. But in general, I was not enthralled with the decor. Some of the decor reminded me more of a casino rather than a luxury cruise or hotel setting. I realize others may not feel the same way. The varied colors of stone floors, walls, baths, etc in different parts of the ship, while perhaps beautiful in their individual setting, sometimes seemed to me as if the designers were not paying a lot of attention to the overall coherency of the design. The dark wood look on the walls lining hallways and various rooms had the look of man-made materials rather than real wood. Despite the slightly negative feel I had about the decor, after living on the ship for a few days one could more or less come to ignore it. I liked the photos that lined the hallways, though it would have been nice if the date, location, and photographer of the photo had been noted. I found service throughout the ship to be excellent. Staff were pleasant, efficient, helpful and friendly. The food was also generally better than I have had on other Regent ships. The deck grill though was about the same variety and quality as other ships. The specialty restaurants were very good. Mostly we ate in Compass Rose. I thought that the new menu of choices of entrees and sauces worked well, though maybe on a longer voyage it could become a tad tedious. I did not encounter any prolonged waits for meals as other posters have noted on occasion. Compass Rose reminded me a bit of a hotel ballroom with some exuberant lighting fixtures, again a style that I didn’t find particularly attractive. We never had to wait for a table for two during the 7 PM to 8 PM time when we dined. Service was excellent, prompt and friendly. The speciaty restaurants also were very good in terms of service and food. We didn't eat in Sette Mare. La Veranda has a good-sized outdoor area that is very pleasant for eating when the weather is good. The food in La Veranda is nicely presented in various serving sections so overall it avoids the long cafeteria-line look of other ships and the design seems more efficient for guests. The arrangement of the pool deck struck me as being less desirable than the pool decks on the Voyager and the Mariner. The pool and hot tubs look very nice. The pool and the deck above are supplied with good size heavy lounges rather closely spaced. There is really no place to sit in an area open to the sky in a regular chair or at a table (except for the outside restaurant seating in La Veranda on the back of the deck). The dining tables on the pool deck are what I would describe as cafeteria-style tables closely arranged in areas covered by the deck above. On one side of the grill the recessed area has more comfortable chairs and “coffee tables”. The problem is that the chairs are so close together and the tables so large that it is difficult to maneuver through the area. The other problem is that the recessed area is only open on one end toward the pool so when it was warm and sunny the space can be too hot because there is no way to open a window for additional air circulation. It also is not possible to walk completely around the ship on the outside deck so passengers can’t see the view from the front of the ship as they can on Regent’s other ships and a circular exercise path isn’t available. The Constellation Theater is similar to the other ships. Overall, it felt smaller, but that may just be the effect of the decor. There were small recessed lights that I found annoyingly bright in the theater and in the lounges. The theater aisles have steps that are poorly illuminated as one enters toward the stage (though the steps are evident as one moves out of the theater or away from the stage). Why this problem hasn’t been fixed with even a temporary measure of colored tape on the edge of the steps is unclear. There are staircases up to the upper balcony that had pieces of a kind of fluorescent-appearing tape on them that obviously were a temporary fix. The step problem looked like a lawsuit just waiting to happen to me. I think the upper balcony design on Regent’s other ships is better than the Explorer I found the amplification of sound for live music performances to be annoyingly loud in the theater and in the lounges. I didn’t care much for the musical extravaganzas. The choreography often seemed as if there was a contest to see how many intricate dance steps could be squeezed in every minute—a sort of frenetic quality. While the dancers were excellent, the selection of music and choreography just didn’t seem to come together, at least for my taste. I think the traditional Jean Ann Ryan shows from other cruises were quite a bit better. The individual performers such as the comedian and the cruise director were far more entertaining. The internet worked (slowly) most of the time, but not all of the time. The speed is certainly nothing like Regent claims on its website: "high-speed WiFi that is similar to that of your fiber-optic network at home.” In addition certain websites or downloads are blocked. For example, I couldn’t update apps on my IPhone or download a new app. Regent still doesn’t have a method for letting guests know when the internet is not working so lots of time can be wasted trying to go to websites or troubleshoot connections, only to find out later that the internet is down. In summary, I would say that the the F1 cabin and its large balcony are significantly better than the various penthouse suites I have been on in all the other Regent ships. The food was improved from past cruises, but if the menus on the other ships are all being made similar, this may not be a difference in the future. If two Regent ships had the same itinerary, I would probably choose the Explorer because of the cabin design—at least in the F1 category. On the other hand, if the itinerary was in a tropical area, I might opt for one of the other Regent ships because of the kind of closed-in feeling of the pool deck. Read Less

My wife and I had a terrific time on the cruise. We were impressed with the ship, the service, the facilities and the food. I won't repeat what others have said about the ship itself: very deluxe, beautiful public areas, well laid out except for the performance theater. Service was superb. Food was diverse and excellent. Organization for embark and disembark were excellent. We could not be more pleased. A few notes to add to what others have said: Itinerary: Regent changed the itinerary to replace Egypt with some more Greek islands. This was a big disappointment to us, as we had chosen this cruise in part because of the stops in Egypt. While safety concerns are understandable, there was nothing in particular of concern going on in Egypt at the time of our cruise. And Regent gave notice of the change at a time (to the day!) when cancellation penalties would be significant. Not good. We decided to make lemonade out of lemons by taking a side trip to Athens while the ship made island stops. We asked Regent to make the arrangements and they did an excellent job. The two days in Athens and transport to and from the ship when off without a hitch and were most enjoyable and interesting. Yes, it cost us some money but it was worth it. Fellow passengers were jealous of us that we had done this. Perhaps Regent should have. offered this as an in-cruise extension to all. Internet: Much has been said about the Wifi and I will add the following: In 2016, having Wifi and reliable internet connectivity is frankly a utility like indoor plumbing. It is no longer a novelty and something vacationers should be forced to get away from. They don't want to. The internet at the very least is a superb source of information on the places visited. Regent clearly had contracted Wifi out to a vendor -- the generic screens kept telling us that our room was being billed when the Wifi was free. Wifi is important enough that the technology (not just the tech person on board) should be done by Regent employees. Entertainment: We went to many of the shows in the Constellation Theatre. They were OK in what they did, but sparsely attended. Something is amiss, given the expenses involved. Regent (and other cruise lines) should look at this old model - Las Vegas lounge acts circa 1960. Maybe it needs changing. Maybe a one act play? A chamber orchestra? Ethnic music from the local region? One can envision these being supplied not by a resident company but by groups based at popular cruise ship stops. Just an idea. Shore excursions: These depended on the guide. Most were good. But Regent should check out the guides for us in advance. Many people we talked to agreed with us that some stops (on most islands) were uninteresting as they are vacation spots. And there should not be stops at designated shopping centers. Free time in the town, yes; stopping at the diamond or porcelain factory, no. This is insulting to the high-end passengers on the high-end Regent ships. We are more sophisticated consumers than this. It raises suspicions of the motivations of the guides - are they there to inform us or sell to us? Read Less

Having previously experienced SS Mariner in April 2015 we were really looking forward to taking a voyage on the new SS Explorer in Sept 2016. It was a 10 night cruise from Venice to Monte Carlo with various interesting ports of call along the way. The ship has been described with many superlatives and the anticipation levels were high. Please note: Long review warning! We enjoyed pleasant overnight stay at he Marriott Hotel in the Venetian lagoon. Lovely hotel, excellent setting/position, great rooms and very good service. The downside was that outside, particularly the roof top pool, it is infested by wasps! Unfortunately, my wife got stung on the foot a couple of hours prior to us boarding the ship - and spent the next 8 days with a badly swollen foot and leg, which caused a few problems - but she overcame it all stoically in the end. On arrival at the ship you can't help but be impressed. It is certainly luxuriously appointed and the opulence of the public spaces is very grand indeed. When we arrived in our Seven Seas Suite, despite having some idea what it might look like, the impact was still overwhelming. The furnishings and decor are lavish and bright, the space is utilised very efficiently to include a glass topped dining table/chairs and a desk area within the main living room and a large, separate bedroom. The main bathroom is huge with a jacuzzi bath, 2 wash basins, large shower and separate toilet. We also had a "guest" bathroom in the entrance hall - this was a very practical and well appointed feature too. In act, we preferred the wash basin & tap arrangement in there to the main bathroom tbh. It had a more homely feel too - with a deep red decor. The balcony, more later, was huge well (but not brilliantly) appointed and a great place to sit with the daily canapes and a glass of wine as you sail out of the various ports. Remotely controlled curtains and a very large, walk in closet/wardrobe are additional features to this suite. All the dining venues were superbly appointed and, with one exception, we enjoyed first class meals in idyllic, contemporary surroundings in all of them. More of that later. The al fresco dining at La Veranda was larger than on Mariner and we were able to take full advantage of that at breakfast and lunch due to the superb weather that we encountered on this cruise. Thus, we never had breakfast in the Compass Rose and we preferred La V to the room service breakfast - which as superbly laid out by Yudi, our friendly and helpful butler when we did chose that option. Regent breakfasts en suite don't quite do it for me tbh. They are great for early departures on tours, and we did that a few times, but I've yet to have decent scrambled eggs and the restricted menu options/lack of flexibility (or thinking, "I'd quite like something else now") is always an issue on any ship. As I indicated above, all the public rooms are spectacular and lavishly appointed. None more so than the dining rooms and the lounge areas. Quite why there are so many chairs and settees in the main Reception are I'm not sure, they do seem to be rather superfluous to requirements there. Equally, the Meridian and Explorer lounges could be a tad larger in order to accommodate sufficient guests on the occasions that something of general popularity occurs within them. Whilst they are adequate most of the time, there were odd times when they were simply not able to fit everyone in. The trio, "Nature Rhythym" who performed in the rather darkly appointed Explorer Lounge most evenings were lively, versatile and very entertaining. We were delighted to find that the lounge pianist, Ross Rannallo, whom we had met on Mariner was also performing on this ship. He occupied the wonderful Observation Lounge most evenings and that was always a great after dinner location for us. Great pianist, wide & cosmopolitan repertoire - vocals may not always be that great but hugely relaxing atmosphere in very comfortable surroundings. Enjoyed the odd cocktail, including a few "Grasshoppers" in the subtle and delightful Obs Lounge! Even won a couple of music quizzes, which we don't normally bother with tbh. Earned some Regent Reward points and were handed some more by a very kind American couple who we'd met whilst competing as well as elsewhere on the ship - thanks for that. Came away with a tot bag, a bookmark and a tee shirt as a result! The theatre is very good and the entertainment we saw was fine, not great but ok. Enjoyed the 2 shows by the "Opera Girls" and the 60's show "Revolution" was pretty good too. Gave some stuff a wide berth but the Asst Cruise Director, David Nevin, provided a decent vocal performance too, All our meals were outstanding bar one. Hugely impressed by the range and service levels in Compass Rose - which was far busier than we'd known on Mariner. You can get lobster or a range of steak & other meat options any evening as well as the daily choice, which was vast. The new pan Asian restaurant, Pacific Rim, was, quite frankly, out of this world. Incredible food in an amazing and staggeringly beautiful venue - with service that would rival anything you could experience on land. The beef tataki, soft shell crab and tempura lobster were beyond magnificent. Fortunately, we managed a second booking in there and the sushi and Miso glazed black cod were just as fantastic. Our experience in P 7 was similar, I just couldn't manage all the 10 oz filet mignon, gratinated potato and creamed spinach! The Maitre D in Pac Rim, Daniela, who also appears in La V, was always extremely courteous and very helpful - the staff under her charge are magnificent too. This is a world class restaurant, as good or better than any we'v eaten in anywhere in the world. Sette Mari (LA V converts to an Italian restaurant at night) was also spectacularly good) - again, far too easy to over at in here. The appetisers served prior to a starter of the hors d'houevre option are superb. The main courses we had were incredible - a surf and turf with largest King Prawn (described a a "shrimp") I've ever seen was superb. The chicken, beef/steak and other options were all wonderful too. One slightly quirky wine waiter in here, found him a bit weird & off hand tbh but others including the versatile, industrious and pleasant Olga (who works around the pool bar all day) and the ever smiling George were all terrific. Chartreuse was a disappointment in comparison to the other dining venues. We were seated at a table for 2 - at the rear, facing out towards the pitch black outside in an already very poorly illuminated area! The food quality and service failed to match the others - bland tasting, lukewarm duck was served here and we discovered that we should have received a complimentary cocktail, which was never offered. We felt like we'd been seated in "the naughty corner" and had no feeling for the general ambience of the restaurant because of that. The Spa is good, had a great massage and the steam room is top notch. The infa red sauna is not popular and is just plain odd tbh. Who wants to sit in a sauna that doesn't get hot or make you sweat? The spa deck a bit of a condundrum too. It is all a bit claustrophobic and regimented. The pool itself is superb but the area is under used, probably a good thing because if 10 people were there it would be far too busy. I'd say that is an ill thought out and badly laid out facility for a luxury ship tbh. The rest is nearly all good - the library is a bit small & limited, another surprise on "the most luxurious ship ever built". The sports deck is superb, enjoyed the 18 hole putting course greatly. The pool area is very pleasant, you can actually swim a few strokes in the pool! We visited some wonderful places and all the Regent tours we undertook were well organised and very professionally operated. Loved the Krka national park in Croatia (my wife missed this due her foot injury) - wonderful views and amazing waterfalls, good lunch, albeit a bit late in the pm, included too. Did Kotor on our own this time - that was spectacular too. Taormina was beautiful and quirky but we were slightly disappointed with Amalfi - the boat ride to Positano lifted that particular excursion and Positano itself seemed far livelier and more interesting than Amalfi tbh. Prior to those 2 trips, Corfu town and the Achilleion Palace was a lovely excursion, as was the later visit to Elba and Napoleon's former residence - Porto Azzuro was great spot for a break there. We were just sad not to see Portofino - as we were unable to land there due to the swell and tendering difficulties. The last day was spent in the port of Genoa. Unfortunately, so e did not get to visit Portofino at all. Maybe next time? We gave Ravenna and Rome (been there a few times and it's a long day from the ship) a miss due to being too busy with other things tbh. So, this was a magnificent trip on a truly wonderful ship. We met some really amiable & friendly people, amazingly several from our home City of Nottingham but others too. Is Explorer fantastic and luxurious? You bet it is. Would we sail on her again? Yes, next week if possible please. Regent provide a marvellous product and this is another incredible ship. The negative comments have to be put into perspective - they are observations and considered thoughts but, overall, we had a truly remarkable and memorable holiday in some of the most luxurious surroundings you could imagine. However, there are some really fundamental design flaws in this ship in my view. Notably; *** No outside forward seating or viewing areas beyond the pool and the deck above. There is an abrupt wall that prevents you from viewing sail ins/outs from outside unless you are on deck 12 above the pool. Equally, if you want to sit outside, you have to sit by the pool or the jogging track! All the seating is magnificent and comfortable - but it is all crammed into the relatively confined space around the pool ad the deck above. That is not good. The crew seem to have some good, elevated relaxation areas on the decks above but the guests don't! *** The spa area needs a re-think in respect of design and facilities. It fails to attract guests but it could't cope if more than a handful ever arrived! ***No aft facing lounge - i.e. like the Horizon Lounge on Mariner & Voyager. the Explore & Meridian lounges are too similar in function and layout, if not decor. ****The sun loungers only recline to about 60 degrees - so it is impossible to lie at a comfortable sun bathing angle. Flat out is ok on your stomach, but not on your back. that is really strange. ***We had a lavishly appointed suite with a huge balcony - massive settee, dining table and 2 chairs - and 1 sun lounger. Not sure why, on a balcony you could play football on, that you only get 1 sun lounger between 2 of you. I'd suggest that all of those issues detract, slightly, from this ship being quite as magnificent as it could, very easily be. Yes, they may be minor flaws and they don't ruin your experience, but so much detail has gone into the at work and fixtures and fittings - a bit more attention to the simple practicalities might have helped. I hope that Regent address some, if not all, of these points with their planned offering in 2020. Looking forward to further adventures on Voyager in 2018 (Hong Kong - Bangkok) and, as we purchased a future cruise certificate on board, another one at some time too! Read Less

Oh some reviewers can be so, so picky. Money doesn't buy class (personal class, not the material class of a cruise ship dahling). We encountered a couple of serial complainers on the ship who delighted in having a whinge, bemoaning everything from the wifi - "just not good enough" apparently, despite being out at sea with up to 750 other people logging on simultaneously - to the number of stairs they had to climb (errr ... take the lift?). We loved everything about the cruise, from the cabin (just beautiful and so spacious with gorgeous L'Occitane toiletries in the bathroom); to the choice of restaurants (Compass Rose was a favourite); the pool; the spa (we now want our own personal aromatherapy steam room at home), the gym with a view...; the spacious public areas with their incredible chandeliers and stunning artwork... And we found the staff that we encountered to be lovely, charming and attentive. The excursions were well organised and not remotely patronising, and incorporated small groups on large buses, so everyone could spread out and not have to sit shoulder-to-shoulder. Rough seas meant a change of port twice but being an act of god, we can't complain. The only negatives that we could identify involved 2 senior food & beverage officers cracking down on waiters/waitresses at Sette Mari which we felt slightly uncomfortable about. One of the evening shows was a smidge on the dull side (just too much tap dancing really, that's all...) but the rest of them were very entertaining, and varied.The Krew Kapers show was fun and we loved how the behind-the-scenes staff got a chance to croon away on the stage (the security officer was brilliant). Quite simply, we loved every luxurious moment of it ... We are Explorer ;) Read Less

Bad excursions with crummy buses(they were only 1/2 full and should have used smaller more modern with legroom etc.) Impersonal, robotic service on deck & lounges. Two ports changed because of conditions(1 meter seas-seemed overly conservative). We had no excursion planned for Portofino and when changed to Genoa the ship only accommodated people who had booked tours & didn't provide a shuttle to Portofino. Chartreuse was so disappointing- timing way off, service awkward & not professional. Would nave enjoyed a ship formal night.Things like caviar at breakfast on Sun-we just stumbled upon and felt it might have been better communicated. Bad communication about any changes-seemed guest's responsibility to study newsletter for new info. Read Less

I write this review to express our deepest disappointment in what my husband & I anticipated being the experience of a lifetime with Regent. My husband and I saved for this excursion and booked this specific trip for our Honeymoon, hopeful it would deliver memories that would last forever. While we were correct that the Regent Seven Seas Explorer delivered memories, unfortunately they were the kind you would rather soon forget. On its face there is absolutely no argument that the ship itself is beautiful, both inside and out, and is overall very impressive. There is also no doubt that Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings believes that building a fancy ship, without more, somehow translates to an excellent experience. In fact, to quote its president and chief executive officer, Frank Del Rio, the "Seven Seas Explorer is not only the world’s most luxurious ship-she sets a new benchmark for luxury vacations and lays the foundation from which Regent Seven Seas Cruises will continue to build." The reality, however, is that luxury is measured by the individual guests, and if you are going to make the bold statement that Mr. Del Rio did you simply cannot miss the mark on anything offered. Unfortunately, the Explorer fell well short of the lofty expectations placed upon her. As a starter, there was nothing “special” about the cruise; no “wow” factor, no special event (not even one formal night) and the new entertainment from ‘in house’ Norwegian Holdings was second-rate compared to what we had previously experienced from Regent on our last sailing. That is, when the entertainment actually entertained and did not shut down at early hours regardless of whether guests were present and in complete disregard for their advertised times. In addition, our impressions were not unique. We spoke with many fellow passengers both during and after the cruise and apart from the usual litany of petty complaints and genuine grievances there was a common theme of which Regent had better take urgent note. The message was simple: we were treated like no one could care whether we were on the ship or not. It was almost as if Regent / Norwegian behaved as though they were paying us to be aboard. We chose "the most luxurious ship in the world" for our Honeymoon, believing it would be truly special and memorable and worth every cent of the considerable price we paid for the privilege of being there. It was neither. It was just another cruise, albeit on a brand new ship (with many ongoing and unacceptable “issues”). In fact, the ship was/is nowhere near finished and Regent put little or no thought or effort into making our trip memorable and we are very disappointed at Regent’s apparent indifference as it was made well aware of its loyal and longstanding customers' unhappiness in the mid-cruise questionnaire and discussions with the hotel manager and others. The “executive” staff presented with a level of indifference akin to a fast food restaurant. The attitude most notably present at the guest services desk was borderline obnoxious. We were made to feel insignificant with any inquiry or request. The inexperienced wait staff lacked supervision/direction. For example, on the first night aboard we waited well over 45 minutes to order a cigar and specialty whiskey in the Connoisseurs Club. A general sense of chaos and poor morale behind, and sometimes in front of, the scenes. For example, we were delayed 2 hours getting off the boat in Amalfi due to crew inexperience in setting an anchor and not being able to operate boat tenders; and the luggage conveyor belt at port in Civitavecchia was broken delaying passenger departure by 1.5 hours. The boat ran aground and was stuck on a shoal leaving Corfu. The most alarming part of this situation is that the Captain then lied to the entire boat that they were performing exercises based on the fact that the Explorer was a new boat. Interesting considering after my husband and I felt the impact then went aft to the Canyon Ranch pool (along with other passengers), watching in disbelief the amount of shoal-wash surface as the boat was motioned to and fro continuously by the Captain, with the bow thrusters, until we were dislodged. In suite TV shows / itineraries / movies/ lectures ran on a very limited loop with no updates after the first few days. The shower did not work in our suite for the first 24 hours – always a nice treat when you have been traveling and cannot shower. The safe was not operational. No laundry bags or hair dryer located in our suite. Our beds were not connected -- even though Regent was notified by our travel agent that we were celebrating our Honeymoon, no one bothered to check to see if the beds were in fact connected. My husband is 6’3” tall and 210 pounds; on our first morning waking up he had the pleasure of actually being stuck between the two beds almost on the floor. The balcony door rattled non-stop. We had to jam a towel in the groves to prevent the noise. Our cabin was located inside the entrance to the gym on deck 6. It is not accurately depicted in the online deck plan for the ship. Regent did not provide top notch entertainment. The same lovely, but underpaid, ensemble Nature’s Rhythm was everywhere. Nightlife past 10 pm did not exist. In fact, one evening the piano player finished early, without reason, and then handed us his ipad and told us to enjoy. World class entertainment indeed! The Hospital was still under construction. One afternoon, while in need of urgent care, we found that the Hospital was NOT even completed and one could not enter due to construction workers assembling the facility. I was forced to lie on the foyer floor, suffering from food poisoning whilst waiting for ships doctor. Once the medical staff did arrive, the treatment at the hospital was another adventure. The doctor refused to give an IV, citing that I was not dehydrated. Yet, when we left the facility he provided us with nearly twenty (20) packs of powdered Gatorade and instructed me to drink as much as possible because I was severely dehydrated! Further, I was then quarantined to our state room for the next 24 hours. Just not acceptable. We were was forced to miss the one port we was dearly looking forward to visiting in Croatia. Coupled with the fact that we had no internet in our room and limited television, what were we to do! The real kicker is this – my husband was the only person I had interacted with after I became ill. I, however, was he quarantined. I am baffled by Regent's rationale. I was locked in my room for fear that I might spread something to other passengers while my husband was left free to roam and leave the boat and spread whatever they presumed existed. Again, unacceptable. The Internet access was the worst we have experienced anywhere in the world. The sign-in procedure is archaic and needlessly complex. The long lines waiting for the Internet Manager were a good illustration of the problem. He was surly and claimed there should be "three of him" on board. Once in line, the connection is dropped frequently necessitating one to go through the entire procedure again. For several days of the ten day cruise there was no internet service or phone service available at all -- and we were never far from land. We incurred data roaming charges in excess of $200 and were assured we would be reimbursed by on board guest services (Which never happened). Most importantly, because the internet was basically inoperable on the ship (and certainly in our room – please check with the fact that they are putting in another router near Canyon Ranch because our suite had zero connectivity), we were forced to go ashore everyday with our laptops so that we could take care of necessary obligations. This was not how we intended to spend our time. In addition, Regent quotes in all their publications "Free Unlimited Wifi", not per person. Beware, only one device per suite was allowed to attempt to login in at any given time. This was not advertised and it is apparent that Regent grossly misrepresented the internet capabilities and options aboard this vessel. However exciting the declaration may be, when you call a ship “the most luxurious ship in the world” you set the bar impossibly high. But remember, Regent set the bar there, Regent built the expectations, not the guests. Luxury should touch every aspect of a travel experience — if everything goes right, and you have a perfect day starting with, say, freshly squeezed orange juice and a gorgeously stiff cappuccino at breakfast on the sun-dappled terrace (as we did), then you have only just delivered on your promise. However, when you serve sun baked coleslaw causing food poisoning, and then don’t have the facilities to treat the passenger, then place them in quarantine in a stateroom with no WiFi, no shower, etc., you have missed the bar by a long shot. I cannot emphasize enough how much we feel Regent took from us, and took it with smug indifference. Regent stole time, time we can never get back. Time we were locked in our state room, time away from the places we wanted to see and experience, time dealt dealing with issues caused by Regent's lack of preparation, time not spent enjoying one another as we wanted. With our families and careers, the likelihood of being able to take a trip like this may never come again. We are not in the twilight of our lives like the majority of your guests; we intended to be Regent's next generation of loyal travelers. Regrettably, that will not be the case. I would like to finish by sharing a story that we believe sums up our Regent Explorer experience. After debarking we traveled to Rome to spend the evening. While waiting for our hotel room to be ready at a tiny unmarked boutique hotel, we sat outside in their garden enjoying a cup of coffee. An elderly couple sat near us doing the same. When they finished they walked by us and asked us if we just got off the Explorer. We could not believe it, what were the chances! When we responded yes, they then inquired about our experience and we did the same. They told us that they had sailed with Regent more times than they could count and that hands down it was the worst, most disappointing trip they had ever imagined. As they recounted the problems and experience they had, my husband and I just looked at each other and said, “well, it wasn’t just us.” Read Less

We had traveled Regent in the past and loved the cruises. The Regent Explorer is a pretty ship, but the crew was not properly trained prior to sailing with real passengers. The tours were mediocre because the guides did not use the headset system that so many other lines use. The main dining room was not open for breakfast until tours were out. You could not eat there if you had a tour. The service in the dining room was mediocre but improved. The Steak house was OUTSTANDING, but the French was bad. The unreserved Italian was great if you could get a table. Cooking school was great. One massage therapist was great, one terrible. Cruise Director was a joke, entertainment was fair. Wrote there customer service a month ago. Got no response. Wrote again and was told my letter would be reviewed in order it was received. Regent is not Regent anymore. Many of the staff came from the lesser Oceana ships. The level of service has dropped. When a Broadway show is in previews the price is less. If Explorer were a Broadway show in previews it would close. Read Less
