A brilliant itinerary :Venice, Croatia (Dubrovnik, Split, Koper) Montenegro, Valletta, Slovenia, Italy (Ravenna, Catania and Salerno)Pretty good weather (though heavy rain in Venice) and a very nice crew. The food was generally very good. We were unfortunate enough to need the medical team in an emergency and I can't thank them enough, they were brilliant.Only two moans: the water in the pools tasted salty but I was assured it wasn't salt water. I found this unpleasant to swim in as it stung my sensitive skin. A bigger problem for us was the siting of DJ Crazy Prince most nights on the landing over the main staircase atrium by the cocktail bar so that when we were sitting enjoying a quiet pot of tea after dinner ( in the only place you could get actually one, al Bacio cafe) we were assaulted by loud thumping "techno" and disco music from the floor below. This meant 3 decks had this noise. The same younger (ie 40 ish) guests - maybe 20 of them- were dancing and enjoying this most nights but I don't think it was to the taste of many older (typically cruiser) guests. We would have had a better cruise if EITHER the DJ was in a more enclosed area- one of the bars perhaps- OR we could have got our tea and coffee somewhere quieter, such as Celllar masters. I asked about taking a tray through as they were adjacent facilities but i was told if i did so I would have to have a paper take away cup...not the experience I wanted. This was due to the design of the ship, I don't recall this as a problem on Celebrity Eclipse. Otherwise a lovely cruise. Read Less

Travelled as a group of 10 friends having booked this cruise some 14 months in advance for the itinerary which did not disappoint. Having previously cruised on the Reflection we knew that this ship was smaller and older, indeed it was starting to feel a little frayed around the edges. Have summarised below the good and bad points; Good: The ship is kept very clean, no issues with our stateroom 8078 which was well maintained and kept very clean and tidy by our attendants. Without exception all staff were very friendly and helpful. Particular thanks to Willy, Zoran C and Marco in the main dining room who did a great job looking after us. Vlad in the sunset bar and Angel who seemed to pop up everywhere. All worked extremely hard but kept smiling throughout we really looked forward to our evening meal with them and other interaction. Food quality was very good as was service the only issue was sometimes the temperature of food in the buffet restaurant not really hot enough. Great itinerary and adequate time in port. Less Good: There is now a clear "class" distinction on this cruise line that we didn't experience last time with some areas now out of bounds for "normal" passengers like us in concierge class. Examples are Michael's bar which we really enjoyed on Reflection - this bar was often empty as a result whilst the Martini Bar was too full with queues to be served - not good. Separate eating areas introduced for premium passengers - waste of space on a small ship like this. The most ridiculous manifestation was a 3 ft length of red carpet on the quay side to welcome back suite passengers - we really did laugh out loud at that one! Entertainment was very poor. Don't visit the adult themed late night show it was plain embarrassing and an excuse for cheap titillation, awful. Highlight of the cruise was a flautist (!!!) and rip off Beatles - but there were only 2 and they couldn't sing that well. The house bands were passable standard cruise level. Staff encouraged to sell to passengers, new limitations on drinks available on classic package led us to upgrade. Drinks service in lounge bars was very slow and we noted that staff often withheld our cards for up to 20 mins, as we had pre paid for drinks this presumably is to reduce passenger consumption! Where Celebrity use commercial ports surely transfer to the "attraction" should be free? Instead Celebrity rip off passengers with extortionate transfer costs when public transport or taxi is a fraction of the cost - give your money to the local taxi drivers they will be greatful and not rip you off. Overall we paid a significant sum for this cruise, we didn't feel standards matched the premium price paid (try Thompson - really - better entertainment and food not far behind now, bigger cabin too) we all 10 agreed to try a different cruise line next time. Impression was of a greedy company, cost cutting and taking passengers for granted. So in summary great staff shame about the company. Finally kicked us off the boat at 7.15 am for a noon flight that was delayed nearly 2 hours - had our money wanted us off! Read Less

I was very much looking forward to this cruise. I have been on several others and having sailed with RCCL previously I was led to believe that Celebrity was a step up from this. I'm afraid I found otherwise. The ship was older and smaller and that I can live with as the itinerary was what I wanted to do. However older and smaller is no excuse for poor quality food, unhelpful staff and poor communication of information cruisers needed to know. Captain Tasos was excellent and I very much enjoyed his humour. That said, the ship was tatty and felt downtrodden. There did not seem to be enough staff to cover the needs of the passengers. The communal areas always felt overcrowded and you had no chance of sitting on the back deck at the ocean view cafe as it was minuscule for the number of people. The food was cold, unappetising and done on a budget. I found this in the formal and informal dining areas. The last evening on board I went to the ocean view dining room as I was truly fed up of the other dining rooms offerings. The Buffett meals served that night were pretty much leftovers from the previous 3 or 4 days. I kid you not! Thank goodness they did a tasty curry up there or I may not have eaten. There were no midnight buffets or deck bbq's that you usually see on cruises. On day 1 there was an issue with the cabin door lock that took 4 visits and several hours before I could access my cabin. On the day we were in Dubrovnik a huge thunderstorm occurred. Local flooding and the like. I found myself abandoned with several elderly passengers in town as the shuttle buses failed to come to get us back to the ship. The celebrity rep hid out the storm and left us to fend for ourselves. Eventually after nearly an hour the Aurora rep felt sorry for us and put us on their coach to get back to the ship. We complained and we did get laundry vouchers and the shuttle cost refunded but this was after we insisted on this. I was more concerned about the safety of the older passengers as one had fallen in an open drain waist deep and a few others were very cold, the staff onboard did not seem to care about their safety. Also one of the ladies from that day had her tshirt shrunk by the laundry. The top was valued at $50 but they only refunded her $20 The TV didn't work well the toilet didn't flush always the safe gave up and I had to keep popping up to guest relations to fix things. They got to know me quite well! I got a little fed up of the constant pressure to buy drinks packages or dining options. I did do the Ocean Liners dining and although the waiters were very attentive I still didn't feel it was high end dining. At the extra cost of around $70 I don't think it was worth it. I loved the itinerary but otherwise I didn't enjoy the ship and its offerings which is sad because I do love cruising and still love that special feeling you get from the whole experience on board. Firstly, I was well impressed by the efficiency and friendliness of the staff together with the skill and wit of the Captain. However, there were many problems that detracted from us fully enjoying our second cruise experience: # Given that most of the time spent in the cabin is actually spent in bed, two single mattresses pushed together do not make a comfortable night's sleep # Trying to relax at the pool was not possible since one guy was chipping away at paintwotk on the railings WITH A SCRAPER! while another was at a different point on an extending platform chipping away a more paintwork WITH A SCRAPER! # Formal Nights were a disappointment as many diners did not bother to make any effort - why have a dress code if it is not to be enforced? Men were allowed in with open neck casual shirts; some ladies seemed to think that, for instance, a sparkly cardigan over a 'beach' dress constituted dressing-up. # Every night at the Theatre, there was an announcement about the first two rows being reserved for over 18s and yet every night a couple and their son were sat in the middle of the front row.- why have the announcements if there is no enforcement? # I thought the price of the shuttle coaches were a rip-off # I thought the commission charged in the casino to obtain dollars was a rip-off - even more so the ATM # Most of the time I went to the bar to order our drinks as waiters seemed to misinterpret my specific request for Bacardi as a request for any cheap white rum # The wifi charges are archaic and more annoying is that the speed is too slow - we could not connect with our family on a special day which was incredibly disappointing and angering that we paid to be not connected This cruise was to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary a few weeks before the cruise together with my wife's special birthday on the cruise - the experience fell short of what we had been assured was a premium cruise company.
