We just returned from a great trip on Harmony V, through Variety Cruises. A 7 day trip that was fabulous! From the itinerary to the service, the food, to the boat to the weather. Please note that this is a cruise for travelers, not cruise-ship folks. The boat is small, holds 54 passengers. We had 27, which made it wonderful too. We visited: Kea Mykonos Delos (day excursion, extra $, but well worth it with a paid guide) Santorini Rethymnon/Crete Kythira Monemvassia - Nafplion Hydra Ranan, our cruise specialist, led us through each town on a walk to point out the main points of interest, routes to go, shopping, etc. She was great! The boat is perfect for this type of vacation. Plenty of space to relax, which we did later in the week while sailing during the day. Breakfast is provided, and was great. Each day, either lunch or dinner is provided, giving guests the opportunity to have a meal on each island and try the local cuisine. Each port had plenty of tavernas or more upscale restaurants. It was a great way to explore each place. We had a mixture of Americans, Spanish, Italian and Greek people on board with us. The service on board was exceptional. The crew truly worked hard to make sure we were happy. I highly recommend this company. Read Less

My husband and I had a wonderful experience on the Variety Cruises' Harmony V doing it's Classical Greece itinerary. We had never been to Greece before and we couldn't imagine seeing it any other way. The cruise itinerary had a very nice mix of destinations and because of the ship size, we got to see some obscure islands that we would have never seen otherwise like Monemvassia, Kea and Kythira. We loved the fact that we could visit a new place every day and the ship even stayed docked until early morning so we could really enjoy the nightlife that many of the islands offered. The crew was fabulous and we especially enjoyed our Cruise Director, Joseph's knowledge and amusing personality. The maid service was so efficient and would clean our room almost the moment we stepped out. The ships chef was also top notch and we had some of the best meals on the ship. The ship was beautiful and spacious with an intimate feel. There were about 30 people on our ship and although we got to know everyone, the ship was big enough to give you personal space. I would highly recommend this cruise line to anyone and we are already planning another Variety Cruise vacation with some friends. Read Less

Mariza as our cruise and excursion director was a ball of fire. Her energy was endless and infectious. Everyone we talked to had nothing but high praises for her. The food was of a high standard, the service was spotless, the cabin was comfortable, clean and used storage space most efficiently and generally the whole atmosphere was outstanding, everyone was all smiles on this cruise. The overall experience was fantastic I would recommend this cruise without hesitation! Thank you Variety Cruises I will definitely be taking another cruise on this ship! Read Less

I am a great fan of the Galileo ship and unhesitatingly recommend it to anyone looking for truly fantastic experience in the Aegean Sea. I have just returned from one week cruising with Galileos which included various islands such as Poros, Polyaigos,Folegandros,Santorini, Paros, Antiparos, Myconos, Kythnos and many more key sites that are expensive to visit independently. All crew were very helpful, friendly and went of there way to ensure we all enjoyed every single day of the trip. The meals were varied, very tasty and well presented. The chef was a surprise! Wine and soft drinks were included with dinner. The choice of a sit down dinner with up to six or more other people allows you to make the acquaintance of other interesting people from all over the world who are also on the cruise with you. All the excursions were included in the cost of the cruise. The guides telling you about the places you are going to visit were extremely knowledgeable and versed about the areas. I would highly recommend this boat trip that you get to see beautiful parts of the Aegean Sea and stop and swim in beautiful breathtaking locations. All were superb as was the organisation of everything on board and on shore while we were in those places. Very comfortable for a couple. I simply cannot wait to go back to Greece for my next boat trip again! Read Less

This was our first cruise and it was excellent from service to the comfort of the room. The wait staff were thorough and made sure we were looked after at all times. The room was services twice daily and turned down at night with surprises on the pillows. The spa treatments on board with the massages were fantastic felt totally relaxed. The food was delectable with a great choice and fresh fruit available at all times. The dining area was set out with different colors and amazing napkin decorations couldn't wait to see what they had done with the serviette each time. Drink waiters very attentive and gained knowledge of what drinks you liked and how you took your coffee. A BIG THANK YOU to Ram and Asund I hope I have the names correct they were great. Yannis the manager was very helpful and attentive thru out the entire experience thank you to him as well. The captain was also available and friendly to all of us it was nice being able to stroll pass control room and pop head in each time to friendly faces. Will definitely cruise again looking forward to the new boat in 2017 that we heard about on board. Read Less

This was our first cruise and after reading some negative comments prior to us boarding, I was a little concerned. However, after spending 8 wonderful days, sailing around the Mediterranean, stopping off at beautiful Greek Islands, eating the most fabulous food, being waited upon like we were Kings and Queens, I decided that the people that had written the negative comments must have been on the wrong cruise. We were on the A deck (no noise at all) and the cabin was excellent. The weather conditions outside were extremely hot and humid so the A/C worked overtime, which kept us cool all night and held up to the extreme temperatures. The towels were changed twice per day and we also had a turn down service at night with a chocolate to send us off to sleep. The bar staff and food service staff were above professional, they became our friends and knew what our requirements were every day. Variety Cruises should be very proud of them. The ships other staff, sailors etc, were also very friendly and helped us whenever we required assistance. I suppose if I had to mention anything negative, we both wanted to do some shore excursion, however there was a quota required which was never reached. We weren't to concerned, but some people might be disappointed. Perhaps Variety can link in with another company to ensure the quota is reached. We swam off the back of the Harmony V 3 times which was exciting swimming in the Mediterranean and the crew watched over us to make sure we were all ok, as sometimes the current was a little strong. Each days activities were posted on the notice board plenty of time in advance and a briefing for the next days activities were placed on out bed each night. Keep up the excellent work Harmony V, and we hope to see you soon. Read Less

We were lucky; we got a substantial discount, including all shore excursions free, our boat was only half capacity, and the folks we did sail with were some of the most congenial we've ever met. If not for all this, I fear we may have been disappointed. The Voyager is a very attractive boat, the crew uniformly friendly, helpful, and cheerful. (I suspect that was mainly due to we being such an easy crowd to deal with). Our cabin, 214, was small as expected, but there were plenty of places to stow our gear and we never felt jammed in. The bathroom was surprisingly large. Our two portholes were too high up to look out without a stretch, but we spent as little time in our cabin as necessary anyway. Do be aware that all forward cabins get the noise from the bow thrusters and anchor chains, which can be quite loud. I can only recall one time they were used during sleeping hours, though, and my partner slept right through the noise. The food was good to very good, but never what I would call gourmet. Service in the dining room was excellent. All alcohol is extra, but prices were not unreasonable. The theme of this trip is the natural life of Costa Rica, but, as the excursion descriptions note, sightings cannot be guaranteed. Our first stop, Curu Reserve, had a very intimate feel. Our guide had grown up there and his affection for the place was evident. It was a very easy landing and walk that gave us close up views of many iguanas and monkeys. This was probably the best of the wildlife walks. After our morning visit, there was a short trip to another island for the first of two beach barbecues, easily the best meals of the week, then plenty of time for swimming. The next stop, Manuel Antonio Park is described as a guided walk on small trails through dense rain forest. Actually, you are walking along a very crowded road, the only way through the park as far as I know, and crowding around the guide's telescope hoping for a sight of something. Entry to the park is supposedly controlled; we were kept waiting at the gate for about 45 minutes, then the waiting crowd, probably about 200 strong, was let in all at once. The description also says the tour ends with time at the beach. The beach is indeed beautiful, but those choosing to stay and swim must make their own way back to the ship. The time and distance involved make that impractical. The next stop, Quepos, is made mainly for those wanting to try zip lining. The town itself has little to offer, and the beach is not recommended. We did try the zip lining, had a great time, but don't feel the need to try it again. The Osa Peninsula walk was disappointing - the wildlife just wasn't cooperatin - and the walk was a bit trickier than described; indeed, in wet weather, it must be almost impassible. The description mentions a visit to a turtle hatchery, but it didn't happen and was never mentioned. Casa Orquedas is a private tropical plant preserve, and is indeed a little Garden of Eden. The landing was tricky, on a beach of slippery stones, but the walk very easy. We had the chance to smell and taste many tropical plants and fruits. This was the best excursion for plant life. The next day may have been the best. The morning was spent on Granita del Oro, a speck of sand and palm trees that offered perfect snorkeling conditions, even for us beginners. We really felt like castaways. In the afternoon we sailed a short distance to Coiba for another great beach barbecue. Two nature walks were offered, neither of which anyone felt was worth the effort. There was plenty of beach time here, as well. The last excursion was to the town of La Palma, a small town of mostly African descendants that is trying to build a tourist trade. I did not go on this trip; those who did had mixed opinions. Some felt awkward, others that it was important and worthwhile. Finally, we reached Panama City. We started with a trip to the wonderful Miraflores Locks overlook and canal museum. We then drove to the Old Quarter, which will probably be a great place to visit in another five years or so. Right now, most of it seems to be a construction zone. Our stop here seemed a bit of a waste. The Canal transit is done at night (the cruise line has little say in this) and was quite a thrill. We officially disembarked at Shelter Bay, an attractive little marina, but a few folks got off at Colon when we made a refueling stop. Allow at least two hours for transfer from Shelter Bay to Panama City. All in all, we enjoyed ourselves very much, but I think that if we had paid full fare and for each excursion, we would have felt letdown. I do feel some of the excursions were a bit overhyped.
