This was our first cruise, so not sure what to expect, and obviously nothing to compare with, so these are just our personal thoughts . . . . . Our Junior Suite (8078) was really lovely - see below review Islands Buffet we didn't like at all and tried to avoid at all costs! Never seemed to be enough seats at breakfast, and if you were lucky enough to find two - you had to take it in turns to go for breakfast so table was never left unattended and 'taken' by somebody else! Gallery 47 & 47 Degrees were nice, and the Surf and Turf was well worth supplement - you felt as though you were on a totally different cruise, just lovely such a nice, peaceful and calm atmosphere! 'Dress to Impress Night' felt a bit flat - we saw some couples where the ladies had dressed up and yet their partners were in t-shirt, trackie bottoms and trainers?! Some people (including ourselves) did make the effort, but really we just thought it felt pointless overall. The day at sea was predictably a case of wandering round trying to find two sunbeds without towels 'reserving' them! Pool area / deck just felt really cramped, soooo many children on this cruise that you could be mistaken for thinking the pool was a kiddies one. Other couples we spoke to said they had never seen so many children on a cruise! Staff we found to be a mixed bunch - the Filipino staff an absolute delight, they always spoke and had a smile for you, the 'Eastern European' staff rarely cracked a smile and came across as it all being a bit of a chore. I get that Marella /TUI are trying to make cruising appeal to a wider market, but it just didn't feel quite right to us, almost one step away from a 'Butlins At Sea' Maybe for our first cruise we chose the wrong ship, the wrong time or the wrong itinerary and should have gone for something slightly more formal, but we won't be rushing to book another Marella cruise again!! Anybody who knows me, knows I love my holidays, but honestly I couldn't wait for the week to come to an end and get off! So sadly Discovery 2 was not for us, and in all honesty I would be very careful who I would recommend it to! Read Less

We like the repositioning cruises as you can go to ports not on the regular schedules and with only 4 days on the crossing part a real bonus .Gran Canaria to Cape Verde then over direct west to Barbados,Grenada,ABC isles then port of Colon ( as its name ) for Panama where our real disappointment came .more later .The ship has many good facilities eg fitness gym,glass house and atrium area .The food was generally pretty good without being Michelin standard .Islands the casual buffet area could get very full at times .The shack which served snacks as well great fish bites and smoked salmon in salad tub .Waiter service dining in 47 was reasonable because we found a great funny waiter and other excellent guests. The menu was at times repeated ,there must be no Angus beef left in world .We tried upstairs in the pizza area and throughly enjoyed the different fare.There were plenty of activities and it was good to see the captain get involved in the cycling competition .Entertainment was the same structure as most of TU I cruises .The main shows had in our opinion one of the best team of dancers,singers that we have seen in our 14 cruises. The new team who were taking over were sub standard even allowing for it being their first show .That leaves our massive negative .Destination services ,Beware of the super slick presentations either in showcase or over the screens .As most know this is a big profit area for them .Our experiences have been very mixed a couple excellent and a few poor and generally poor value . Without boring you of all details ,we didn't do an excursion as the transport was old,no air con,no seat belts ,overcrowded. Not as described in literature however after 4 e mail dialogues once back home and an uninterested manager on board no refund of monies has been received .The moral is that they hide behind a couple of regs They say that as they are just an agent you must complain to the supplier of trip if a problem .Not easy at the end or when you are back on ship and the local agent is long gone . They also say any discretion on refunds is back in UK whereas when back they say it could have been sorted on board .Think twice as there are mostly good independent tours available from ports with a little research before trip using local tourist boards .Many complaints re Colon . However next day Cartagena in Colombia turned out despite prior beliefs to have a lovely old walled town which we explored with another couple getting a taxi as TUI said it was not safe .More inaccurate info from destination services .We had a day at sea before docking in Montego BAy Jamaica then a flight back from the airport which has not grown with the increased number of planes and passengers and we were an hour late leaving but there are many more longer delays ,it needs to resolve this although they had a very good PA system .Overall a very good cruise only tainted late on Read Less

We chose this cruise exactly one week after coming of Discovery last year doing the transatlantic with a different itinerary. We had nothing to complain about last year it was superb. We chose exactly the same cabin we had last year on deck 8 right at the back. Discovery 2 is the sister ship of Discovery and are practically identical in terms of layout. For us Embarkation was swift, smooth and painless with baggage delivered and collected in a timely manner. The cabin is an aft facing cabin which meant we had the sun most days whilst crossing the Atlantic. The cabin is roomy with plenty of storage. A great feature this year was the addition of USB sockets in each of the lamps which was handy for charging up Ipads and phones. The electrical sockets are 2 standard USA and 2 Eurpean type. The decor was ok although a picture missing from the wall of the cabin which showed up the marks where it had been. Generally the cabin was kept immaculate by the cabin steward however he rarely replaced the toiletries and despite requesting and reminding him it still did not happen or if it did they were only partially replaced. On embarkation day there was a letter on the bed welcoming us back. Reading the letter it tells you that you have a Lavazza coffee machine in the room to which you are entitled to one cup of coffee a day! (What! after what we paid I would expect coffee to be free flowing like it was last year) That certainly did not set me off in the right frame of mind. There were two days were half a dozen teeny pellets of soot landed on the balcony. The stewards cleaned the balconies up immediately and there was nothing to complain about. Those who have not stayed in one of these junior suites seem to imagine that it happens all the time. It does not! Another point is the saying the higher your cabin the more you pay the more it sways. It is no different to anywhere else on the ship. We only had two days were there was a bit of a roll and that was from Tenerife to Gran Canaria and en route to Jamaica but we slept quite well both nights. It is very quiet at the back of the ship. The air conditioning was not able to be adjusted. Food and dining. The food in the waiter restaurants was always hot and our meals were served in a timely fashion. I was surprised to hear people complain that dinner took around two hours. For me that is quite acceptable, who wants to bolt down their food when you are on holiday it also gives you the chance to share tables and meet some very interesting people. We never ate in the buffet restaurant apart from having afternoon tea one afternoon. I can't really comment on what it was like but the same food is served in the buffet as is available in the main dining room. Gallery 47 is an Italian restaurant with two alternating menus. The food is quite nice here and we ate here a few times. Surf and Turf and Kora La restaurants have to be booked at a supplement and both are like being on a completely different ship. The attention to detail and the quality is second to none. We only ate at Surf and Turf this time and the supplement was around £29. There was a fast food outlet called the snack shack where you could grab rolls in the morning fish and chips at lunch time or chicken wings etc. There were also cool cabinets with a variety of salads, sandwiches and pots of fruit. We only had a snack twice here but it was quick, tasty and filling. At busy times you might be given a buzzer and have to wait around 20 minutes for a table in the main restaurants it only happened once to us during the 18 night cruise but that was because we wanted a specific table so we were quite happy to wait. Drinks We upgraded the drinks package which for us was good value. We had 2 X 1.5 litres of water in the cabin each day. Access to the coffee bar for premium coffees and an enhanced premium drink menu. We found that the drinks on the normal menu seemed to be lacking in something but there was a noticeable difference in the premium drinks. We never had to wait too long for our drinks either being served or being waited on. There were ample staff for this and they were always busy. It worked out at £7 a day and we thought that was good value. Entertainment. We always found something to occupy us on sea days. There were some activities going on at one time or another. I think one of the biggest problems was inadequate seating in some of the venues particularly the atrium. The theatre is much more comfortable that theatres in London. My only criticism is that once the shows have started the bar service should stop. It is irritating during the show to see bar staff passing through and blocking the views. The shows only last an hour why not bring a drink from the bar it is not as if you are going hours without access to a drink. Also on a couple of occasions there were some ignorant people talking all the way through the shows. The shows were ok some better than others. I think the entertainment could have been a bit better but that is down to personal preferences. Service. There were a mixture of Filipino and Eastern European staff on the ship. All we came across were brilliant and everyone of them we met greeted us with a smile and a hello. They are on the ship for up to 8 months and there were some passengers do tend to be rude to them. We met quite a few staff from the Discovery who had transferred to Discovery 2. Surprisingly they remembered us and actually came to our tables to say hi. Ports and excursions. Our itinerary. Tenerife Day of boarding. Gran Canaria - We did our own thing as we were here last year. Mindelo Cape Verde - A God forsaken place not geared up to cruise ships at all. We left the ship at 10:00 and people were already heading back to the ship. Not worth a visit here. Barbados - Wonderful place but most things closed on Sundays! Got a hotel day pass. Grenada - Speedboat and snorkel. Absolutely brilliant but £72 was a bit pricey but worth it. Bonaire - A beautiful little island.- We did out own thing got a hotel day pass. Aruba - Lovely island- Got our own taxi for a tour $20 each. Island tour and beach for 3 hours. Brilliant. Curacao - Willemstad is a delightful colourful town. $20 taxi tour about four hours. Panama Canal - Vastly over priced. £120 Not as described in the blurb not the companies fault but 4-5 hours going around the lakes due allocated time of going through the locks. The last 3 hours were brilliant but the lead up to it was dire! We were very late back to the ship which had to wait for 350 passengers on this tour. Cartegena- Colombia $30 Taxi tour for 3 hours a beautiful city but boiling hot and humid. Jamaica- We did not do a tour here. We loved the itinerary and 18 nights went in a flash it only felt like a week. Can't understand visiting Mindelo but I guess it is a very cheap port for port fees. There are other beautiful islands in the cape so why those chose this one is beyond comprehension. Major concern. The medical centre. I have never ever seen so many people walking around a ship with Canulas in situ. Most being diagnosed with pneumonia some clearly not actually having pneumonia. Either there is something majorly wrong with the ventilation system or there is something afoot with the insurance claims. Would we sail with Marella gain? Not in the near future certainly. Reasonable standard of service but not quite up to the same standard as last year. Price wise they are not dissimilar to other cruise lines whose standards are a bit higher. I would point out here that customer service pre and post cruise is abysmal. We had no communications from our Tui travel agent at all. I only got information from a facebook group and had to go into the shop myself to get this information I understand that the telephone service leaves a hell of a lot to be desired too. Read Less

We normally cruise with Fred Olsen and have also been with P&O, so thought we would try a different cruise line. As the Discovery2 is new to Thomson and the iternary was what we were looking for. We sailed from Santa Cruz perfect for us as we live in Tenerife. The ship is large but not too large we prefer the small to mid size ships. Embarkation was painless as we arrived early before all the flights arrived from the UK. Our cabin was ready on deck seven we chose a balcony cabin. The cabin was very nice, plenty of storage, good size nice balcony and the bathroom was a decent size, however the only problem for us was the bed was too hard. The food was fine not five star but hot served by very friendly staff. The only downside for us which we knew before we booked was there is no formal nights. There was one night which was (dress to empress) and a lot of people did make an effort, others did not, still in shorts and t-shirt. There was an inside and outside pool which was freezing! Not used to that on a cruise. We also found the bars and lounges very fragmented not enough seats and not very comfy. Entertainment was OK seen better. Disenbarkation was very smooth for us as we were independent travellers. On the whole the ship is clean, plenty for the family the staff are friendly and the food is very good. Fish & Chips in the shack superb. We enjoyed our cruise weather wasn't too bad either but not for us we will stick with Fred Olsen. Read Less

Having read all the previous contributors and reviews for this ship, i'm amazed at some of the remarks made. Get a grip! this is not P & O, Cunnard or even Celebrity. It's the now Marella providing cruises at good value prices. We have cruised many times previously but when we checked out the 'Canarian Flavours' itinerary along with its all inclusive plus gratuities ticket. We decided to give it a shot especially as it was on a fully refurbished R C vessel. What a brilliant decission we made. Our de lux balcony cabin on deck could not be faulted nor could all the dining arrangements. So far so good, but what about all the other aspects? Evening entertainment, top shows every night and in particular the Freddy Mercury tribute show had a full house rocking in the aisles and fully deserved the standing ovation. Terry Cotter a very funny comedian did two spots during the cruise, both entirely different shows and not a word of smut! So no formal nights but the 'dress to impress' evening took me completely by surprise with about a third of the men attired in their best jacket and tie The women of course donned their best every night. Being all inclusive cruise means that drinks are flowingwell into the early hours. So the many bars and venues are well patronised but, would we regard it as a 'booze cruise' or even 'butlins at sea' ? certainly not! just a full compliment of passengers obtaining wonderful value. Just back from a week on D2. Have been cruising with Thomson for nearly 20 years, so have been on many of their older and smaller ships. Will give what I hope is my balanced view.. was very excited about going on this bigger and newer ship and first time having a balcony, but left feeling a little underwhelmed. The ship has a good layout- the main restaurant 47 is light and bright and has a good mixture of tables for couples and larger groups. I also liked Gallery 47, with its Italian themed food and nice to have an alternative without having to pay extra. The food in both was excellent and the service mainly good, but the pager (or ticket at breakfast) system didn't always work, as you'd be taken to a table that actually wasn't laid up ready. This happened more frequently at breakfast, so it then delayed getting teas & coffees as no cups were laid up, then the toast might come but you'd have no plates. Also, one morning in particular the tables around us just weren't cleared and there was a pile of dirty plates at one of the serving stations for the duration of our breakfast. This just wouldn't have happened in the days of a maitre d' such as Cesar (if any of you remember him). Whether this is due to cutbacks in staff I don't know? We couldn't get in to the surf and turf speciality restaurant as apparently that was booked up within hours, but we did the hot stone, which made a change and was reasonable at £11.95. The snack shack was a neat idea which seemed to work quite well. We did struggle to get drinks - the pool bar was always rammed and we couldn't understand why the bar on the next deck up didn't open until 12? There were always staff there well beforehand and there were plenty of people on that deck to use that bar, thus making the pool bar less busy and also saving customers having to walk up the stairs carrying drinks? In the evening the quickest place to get a drink was the venue, but it lacked atmosphere. We tried the bar 11 a couple of times, but what was annoying was that you could hear 2 different types of music being played at once (presumably the 2nd music was from the speciality restaurants on that deck). The bar service in the theatre was actually pretty good and the pads that they took your order on and scanned your card, were a good use of technology. The entertainment was good - a mix of different shows, quizzes, game shows, bands and individual musicians, so there was something for every taste. A special mention to the 2 show dancers, who were fantastic and who also seemed to mix well with passengers, dancing with partners from 8 to 80! The idea of the touch screen technology around the ship is good, but they need to ensure it works. For example - there is a page entitled ''meet the team" which was blank for the duration of the cruise. We also pointed out some incorrect information on the ships registry and it turned out they'd just dumped the data from D1! This did get corrected quickly once we'd made them aware of this. The shops have gone much more 'designer' - they used to have some affordable bits of jewellery and small mementoes such as key rings, playing cards etc, but no longer. So there's more shops, but less of interest personally. There were a number of children on board, but many parents just seem to treat the ship as a giant crèche. There were signs and reminders in the cruise news that the hot tubs were not for under 13s - well for much of the time the majority of occupants were well under this age. Parents ignoring the health warnings about this. Also, whilst it was stated that unattended towels on beds would be removed after 45 minutes we never saw this happen. There's no point in these rules if they are not enforced. So why, with all the extra facilities and undoubtedly a more modern and glamorous ship did we not enjoy our holiday as much as we'd hoped? We can only describe it as the ship not having the heart and soul that we have previously loved on Thomson's ships? Whilst there were some standout staff (loved April and Robert in 47 restaurant) there were definitely some who seemed to be just going through the motions? I would also say some of the discipline has gone - a couple of years back the crew were only allowed to speak English in front of passengers- but this rule no longer applies. My husband also witnessed a rather shocking incident of a barman who thought he was not being watched necking a double measure of glenfiddich whilst on duty. Wonder whose card that was put against? Some of the technology has replaced the human factor and the staff have always been such a key part of our holidays in the past. I don't want to appear a moaner, but hope some of this feedback may be helpful in addressing some of the issues and making improvements where needed. Read Less

We have travelled on Thompson, then Tui, now Marcella cruises many times.We have loved every one, even a bargain last minute on the Island escape. We booked on the Discovery 2 wondering if we would feel comfortable on a much bigger ship. Took us a few days but yes . we really did enjoy it. Having said that , the staff although good , are not a patch on the very friendly, very helpful and efficient staff on the Spirit. Hopefully with time they will get better , but if not may we suggest that when the Spirit goes out of service next year you offer contracts to the wonderful family of crew who will be made redundant then. The celebrations for the name changing were very enjoyable, and all in all we will return, once your smaller ships are no longer available. Thank you for a very enjoyable holiday. Read Less

In the past we have had 12 previous cruise experiences and the 3 with Thomsons before this cruise. And it was 10 years since our last cruise. .Change of Literary was a Disappointment and the reason being the re-branding of the ship from Tui to Merella was not in my option a valid reason to change our destinations. Just a warning after contacting TUI before the cruise they informed us that a cruise company can change the itinerary for any reason they wish, not just safety reasons. They did compensate all passages £40 to their on board credit. We on the 6th deck on a balcony suite, happy with the refurbish. Communal areas very well presented Food very good at all locations Staff very helpful Negatives The sunbed situation is a disaster, there are plenty of sunbeds but no were to place them. There is sadly a growing reputation by the British cruisers for sun bed and chair saving. After getting back on board after the days at port we were met by a covering of blue towels on empty beds and chairs. There was a 45 minute towel removal policy but its not enforced. I AM ALLRIGHT JACK CULTURE Get it sorted Merella- Would I go with Merella again-no But we really enjoyed the cruise and fall more positives than negatives Read Less

Holiday Review of Thompson (TUI) Marella Discovery 2 Canary islands for one week from 20th October 2017 taken to celebrate our 32nd wedding anniversary We do not normally write reviews and would not have done so now had our complaint been dealt with reasonably by TUI the final straw came yesterday when their Senior customer services advisor directors team ANGELA told us that the complaint was closed and the £60 compensation was all we were going to get, to summarise as the issues were not TUI,s problems. See what you think was £60 compensation ok for the following holiday experience? By the way we cancelled the next cruise today and will NEVER cruise with TUI ships again. We arrived on the boat at approx 2 PM and the room was not ready, when the check out time is 8AM. We got back to the room and found it made up wirth two single beds when we had requested on booking the holiday a double bed, we went to reception and they said it would be dealt with by the cabin crew later. We returned to the room after an evening meal and the bed was still two singles we went again to reception to try to resolve the situation, the beds were finally made in to a double at approx 10 PM, when we had been travelling all day were exhausted and wanted nothing more than to sleep. On the following night we were woken in the early hours of the morning by a loud intermittent banging under our starboard side level two out side cabin, the noise continued and at 2.45 AM we complained over the phone to reception, one of the receptionists came down and spoke to us and agreed that the level of the noise was unacceptable and that she would try to find out what was causing it and what could be done about it. We were given various excuses ranging from work going on to something loose in the hold and finally bad weather, at 3.30AM we had had enough and contacted reception again, this time were met in our room and escorted to an interior cabin, with two single beds which we were happy to have, just to get some sleep given that we were now totally exhausted. The issue was not resolved to our satisfaction given that we were told we could continue to use the interior cabin to sleep! When we had paid for a window to wake in the morning being able to see day light and enjoy the view. At 6PM the following day the noise started again this time we went directly to reception and were met by a member of the reception team who was to say the least condescending. We eventually got moved up a deck to the third level port side which was again an outside cabin with a window. The receptionist said “the noise was due to the weather and do not complain to me if you are again disturbed by splashes in your new cabin” we could not believe her attitude! We were made to feel that we should not complain about not being able to sleep while on holiday. Having cruised on both Princess and Royal Caribbean cruises whose level of service was exceptional we thought that the level of service on the Discovery II would be the same as the TUI Spirit ship which we have also been on, this was defiantly not the case. We had booked two trips one being a bike ride with Kyle who was a lovely chap in-fact the ride was basically him and the two of us, he gave us a good day out, the second trip the Navarda walk was however cancelled and the notification of this was via a note under the door this may have been acceptable if nothing else had been a problem but in the circumstances we expected to be given the bad news personally, again very poor customer service. The cancelling notification said we would receive a refund, however we have not at the time of writing received anything. The food on board was disappointing with little variety for example the salads had grated carrot and iceberg lettuce etc however no olives or radishes or cellery or beetroot, at breakfast no black pudding, all of which was available on the TUI Spirit cruise which we went on in April 2017. I had asked for olives and was told they were only available at the bar with a gin and tonic? On complaining by filling in a customer survey, the food improved and a variety of different salad items appeared including olives and fennel. This improvement seems to have been initiated by other people also complaining which resulted in a lot of management people being personally present in the buffet restaurant over the last two days. The shows we found for the week we were on the ship were good however we spoke to a passenger who had been on the ship for two weeks and were told the shows were the same for the second week. Foolishly before we went on the Discovery II we booked to go again on the same ship to the Baltics in August 2018. We know that there is a name change due for the ship we now know feel that we know why. Read Less

The embarkation process was smooth and well organised with our bags labelled with our cabin number at the airport check-in. After collecting the cases at the airport we didn't see them again until later that day outside our room (although not at the same time). The process of registering for a passenger card, checks with the nurse and photographs sounded laborious when reading the briefing card en-route to the port but it was a continuous line and took no more than 10 minutes to be heading to the ship. There are security checks when boarding the ship which tended to be the only cause for queuing as people removed belts, etc again. We were pleasantly surprised with our room which was centre aft (the back) with a large balcony with 2 sunbeds, a table and 2 chairs and room to spare. The bed was a large comfortable double with fresh sheets each day. We also had a sofa bed and dressing table with plenty of mirrors. There was ample storage with a variety of draws, shelves and hanging space. The bathroom was a decent size with a powerful shower (nylon curtain). There is fridge in the room with a minibar although the prices were steep especially when on an all inclusive cruise. Even bottled water was chargeable although there was an empty carafe which you could refill from a water fountain mid-ship (a fair walk from our cabin at the back). Room service was twice a day with an almost over-attentive cabin service cleaning the room each morning and returning each evening to turn your bed down, deliver a chocolate and cruise news with the following days itinerary. There is an app for smart phone available throughout the ship which you just have to connect to the ship Wi-Fi for and it defaults to it at no charge. On this you can view your on-board account with live information (even no-charge transactions appear - if you are going to be charged for anything you will be asked to sign - if they just scan your card it is free). You can also book tables at the A La Carte restaurants and having done this as soon as we got on board had a full choice of dates and times. It's also useful to see a full day's timetable of activities and where they are (the list reduces as the day goes on so it only has whats coming up - we found that acts were performing in addition to these times too). It would have been useful to have deck plans available to view but to find your way around you had to view the maps at the lift lobbies on each floor. Free Wi-Fi (without any registration) was usually available at the ports too if you didn't want to pay for the Tui one. For dining we tended to stick to the Islands self-service which had very good quality food and we never struggled to find a table. We booked the Surf & Turf for one night and found it to be very good in terms of service and food quality. We never bothered with 47 or 47 Gallery as we heard that there were always queues and service was slow. Breakfast was good apart from the hot drink stations where the coffee, apart from being very strong, was frequently empty and temporary large flasks of hot water and coffee put out. In contrary the paid for Coffee Port served very good coffee throughout the day but at additional charges to AI - I wonder why the free coffee was so bad?? The entertainment was varied and in the evening there was usually something happening wherever you pass through. Towards the end of the week the Trio groups repertoire was repeating itself however they were always playing somewhere filling in for the other entertainers and very hardworking. We watched a guest comedian one one evening who was quite good but overall it felt a little like Butlins at sea. There was a "dress to impress" night on Sunday when some men wore dinner suits but you weren't stopped from going anywhere without one. On most nights everyone wore smart dress with only a few people on board who couldn't be bothered making any effort. We booked two excursions; a Jeep Safari in Morocco (8hrs) and Fire Mountain (4hrs) in Lanzarote and found both to be good value. After what we heard about trips to the markets and independent venturing in Morocco we opted for a full day guided Jeep Safari. It was very good seeing a lot of Morocco that wasn't on the tourist trail and the traditional tagine lunch was excellent. Be prepared for a white knuckle journey though and that's on the roads not off them! It felt like we were taking part in wacky races at times and don't be surprised to witness accidents on your journey as pedestrians, mopeds/bikes, donkeys and motor vehicles mix with no apparent right of way. The trip up Fire Mountain included a camel ride which was well organised and great fun and the trip around the national park was spectacular. PORTS: Santa Cruz in Tenerife is a busy commercial port and we didn't have time to visit the town. Las Palmas in Gran Canaria is right in the town centre and there is a 3km long beach 10 minutes away reached by walking through the town. Not particularly touristy but a reasonably nice place to walk about in. Santa Cruz in Las Palmas is right in the town centre and a lovely walk along the main shopping street can be had with a few nice bars along the way. There was a local market on by the port when we arrived on Sunday. Not a big place but nice and there is also a beach fronting the castle (loosly termed) about 10 minutes from the boat. Funchal in Madeira is a beautiful place. The town is immediately next to the ship but you get a lot of hassle from taxi drivers and tour guides when walking in. We walked through the main streets to the cable cars (11E each) and then took the toboggan down (30E for 2) and then walked back down to the town centre. Be prepared for the weather because whilst sunny in town it was raining at the top of the cable car run. The walk back is straight forward along one road for 20 minutes but it is very steep. The market near the cable car station is very worthwhile visiting. Agadir in Morocco is just a commercial port with no cruise facilities at all and we struggled to get the gangway on and off (the crew said that happened the week before too). Difficult to walk anywhere from the ship so take a taxi or book a trip. Arrecife in Lanzarote has a good commercial centre on the quayside leading to a beautiful lagoon with fishing boats and a few bars which is very easy to walk to if the ship docks on the south pier however if it docks on the north pier it is a short bus or taxi ride around. Wanted some sun and we got it. The itinerary included places we have not been before. The staff in the main dining room were very good with their service and memory of requirements. The entertainment was ok but not exceptional, the one exception being the two main dancers who were very talented and should have ha a show of their own. Again as on most cruises the beds were taken with the towels leaving one to walk around to find space. The ship was very much better than the Spirit we went on earlier this year. With having to leave the cabin on the final day at 8:00 it was a shame that the excursion booked did not go ahead as was not departing the ship until 16:50. Having said that the facilities were available for all to use until departure. Overall I would not hesitate to cruise with Tui or Marella as they will be known as. Read Less
