I thought you may like some feedback on our recent cruise in June 2018 to the Midnight Sun on TUI new ship Marella Discovery. We have been cruising with Thompson’s (TUI) since 2004 and have booked in excess of ten cruise trips with TUI. This is our second cruise with TUI in 2018. The ship is beautiful, with excellent recreation facilities, entertainment and lounge and bar service. In general, the facilities, bar and lounge staff were excellent. The two main areas that we were not too pleased with was the supervision and service provided in the Gallery 47 Restaurant and Island Restaurant. Maitr'd seldom visible did not help out. We eventually moved away from these facilities of the Gallery 47 and Island Restaurants and used the excellent facilities and food at the Black Rock Grill, Glass House, which was well supervised by Mr Anthony Tapiador, the Head Waiter and his most pleasant staff. I would recommend this excellent facility for your meals. Look forward to our next cruise. Read Less

This was my 2nd time on a NCL ship. My first memorable experience with Jewel and impressive service from NCL Sydney office were the reasons for my 2nd time. This particular trip was arranged as all of us had not been to Norway. From the booking to every single arrangement, our NCL consultant, Michelle Farren had been very helpful with her prompt response, despite 17 of us in the group. It was handed over to Hayley, who helped us before we sailed. Awesome service from NCL Sydney office!i never thought would happen to any cruise line due to some past negative experiences. Every day, our cruise ship, Norwegian Jade passed by different mountains. In the early summer, the snow covered mountains and visits to the fairytale lands in Norway warmed my heart during this memorable cruise trip. It's indeed a very beautiful Norwegian Fjords' journey, which all of us had enjoyed very much. We had selected 2 Free at Seas for each cabin. On top of that, we were given the Distinctive Voyages with few more addtional benefits, such as 250 min free wifi, 120 phone call credit that allows us to call any part of the world, another $50 shore credit per port etc. Most of us were busy every day taking part in different shore excursions. Though a few incidents happened on the ship, upon receipt of my comments, its cruuse director & guest services manager had contacted me personally. Service recoveries were offered to my cruise mates and I had received a complimentary wine & chocolates as well. Thanks for the prompt response and I was grateful that my friends were happy before they left the ship. I saw the Carbaret show by the production team onboard and it was really interesting to showcase Broadway musical at the lounge. The Cruise Director and his team had performed a very interesting "Movie Sketch Comedy Show'. Very great teamwork! Among the specialty restaurants, my team mates loved Cagney, Le Bistro, Moderno Churrascaria. Teppanyaki may require some improvements on the skills by the Chef. Grand Pacific, Alizar and Cafe Garden were great! We all love the foods. Read Less

Did a lot of research before hand, as we new nothing about cruising, and chose Saga because, to win all the awards they have, they must be doing it right. We were not disappointed. From pick up from our door to return to home, our whole experience was way above our expectations.Embarkation was quick and easy, cabin very clean and bigger than expected with more than enough storage space. The food was of a very good standard, with plenty of choice. Entertainment overall was good. The service throughout was excellent, with all the crew being very polite and helpful. although the sapphire is classed as a small ship, it certainly didn't feel like it to us . Disembarkation was very slick and smooth, yes, there is a waiting time, but you know in advance your app. time to go. all in all a very enjoyable holiday, and yes we will go with saga again in the future. This was Susan's 70th Birthday present, she wanted to see the Northern Lights if possible and the Fiords. We embarked at Southampton, which was so smooth and welcome from the hassle which is flying, airports and long waits. Arrive at the port car park, 150 yards from the boat. Have your cases transferred by Van, walk across the car park, and more or less embark straight away. Get you Card authorised, your cruise card issued and your pass to and from the ship, and get down to exploring and enjoying your ship for the next 10 days. The staff were Great, (I do not complain ever,! unless something is badly wrong) From Day to day experience, we ate in the Ldedira restaurant, for Breakfast and Lunch, and in the Other main restaurant for our evening meal. It is such more civilised than fighting for your food in the busy Self service 'Oasis' food counters (4 of them). WE found no problem finding good food to enjoy at all times. Some were moaning of too little for certain tastes, but we enjoyed what we had and it was cooked well. Ex Chefs are hard to please, so take heed, it was not bad, and was plentiful. The Magnifica is one of MSC's smaller ships which has a welcoming atmosphere, heaven knows what we will find when we go on the new larger ships later on this year? Yes we have found a love for MSC! this was our third MSC ship and cruise, and genuinely? we have loved the informal atmosphere seldom found on large ships. Things do not always go to plan! We booked a few excursions on line! one sent to us was, a waterway trip in Hamburg. Turned out it should not have been on this site, it was destined to be in Amsterdam! MSC have a process for taking Service fees from your account at 10E per day per person. We like to tip for getting excellent service and cut these fee's down to half, paying the room guy, and waiters personally for what turned out to 'far in excess' superior service. Weather in the Northern Cimbs can be very wet, blowy or both. We had high winds, some rough seas for part of the journey, but on this ship, you hardly knew what was happening outside. The Sun however, was plentiful and we got some decent tans from the warm sun out of the wind. The Ports of Call were interesting, we called at Stravanger on their National Day. what a traffic spectacle that turned out to be. The people were warm and loved the British, the youngsters were a credit to the nation, Young and Old alike were all dressed in their National Costume. For the Men, a suit in Electric Blue, the Girls has Dresses! each one embroidered in Gold and Silver, with skirt bands in different colours reflecting their different localities. The Girls flocked so Beautiful and fresh, if only we had that sort of National Pride! We stayed in one port alongside Brittania, P&O's flagship. We talked comparing ships, and if British registered, P&O came off worse. We are shortly (as I'm on my retirement year) to try Cunard in late August, we shall have to see what comes of that trip. However, if you care to enjoy a trip into the less unusual places that the Caribbean or the MED, then try Norway. it really is a great if expensive place to visit. Two coffees will cost you £10, local cakes and delicacies especially Fish will be a worthwhile experience, but cost you 30 Euro. MSC? well we love it! Read Less

I have to agree with ThomasUK. We have also just returned from trip to Fjords, sailing from Newcastle. From embarkation, very quick, to leaving, the staff were efficient, cheerful and helpful. Our cabin steward was excellent and couldn't do enough to help, our waiter in one of the main dining rooms was always smiling and nothing was too much trouble, his young assistant likewise. Everywhere around the ship the staff greeted the passengers with a smile. yes the ship is old but it is spotlessly clean and it is unfair to compare it to other lines, it is half the price. Food and entertainment were very good. I unfortunately needed the services of the medical team but again they were first class. Cabins are not large but enough for two people and beds were comfortable. My only complaint would be the noise from the engine during the night but that is no one's fault. All in all it was an enjoyable cruise with breath taking scenery in the fjords. Read Less

I sailed from Dundee, not Newcastle but the option to put that on the review wasn’t there! First cruise for me and I went alone. Boarding was quick, efficient and simple. Plenty of staff to show you the way to your cabin. I felt the whole trip (to the Norwegian fjords) was extremely good value for money. Excursions were well organised and informative. On board activities were fun and well attended. The restaurants were efficient, friendly staff and good food. The Chef’s Table was a superb evening. Book it if you get a chance. Cabin was clean and spacious and tended twice daily. If I had read some of the awful reviews before going I might have cancelled but I have absolutely no complaints. This isn’t a 5 star luxury miner so if you want that, go elsewhere. It is a small(ish) friendly ship which I really loved. I will sail with this company again. Read Less

The travel timings were precise and everything went smoothly. However all the meals in the restaurant were lukewarm and often ran out without being replenished. The restaurant service was slow and the prices for the wine, beer etc were overpriced. The cheapest bottle of house wine was NOK 500. We priced in local supermarkets at NOK 124. Considering that Hurtigruten would purchase this at a wholesale not retail price - is an extortionate mark up. We found the excursions very expensive and the content rather staid and due to the ship's fast turnaround time extremely rushed. Most people we spoke to either walked or took a taxi towards the end of the trip as soon as they realised the poor value for money. However there is no getting away from the fact that the Norwegian scenery is spectacular and therefore despite our negative comments we are glad that we went. Read Less

It was something we had always wanted to do and the lovely relaxed atmosphere on the ship, together with good service, lovely food, wonderful weather, made it almost perfect. We went to some lovely towns and liked the fact that there were lots of opportunities to get off the ship and look around, as well as the really great excursions. Although we didn’t get to see the Northern Lights, the wonderful scenery made up for a little disappointment. It was only spoilt by the inconsiderate group of passengers who gathered in the main lounge sometimes two or three times a day to play at least two accordians and sing. They seemed to be oblivious to the number of people who would walk out each time. The lounge was the main area for people to sit and relax with a coffee, chat to friends, or read a book, or to watch the wonderful scenery passing by. This group would often play for two hours at a time. Read Less

We enjoyed every moment of this beautiful voyage. We loved the comfort of the ship which was clean and most comfortable. Excellent meals with a great variety of delicious fresh fruit, vegetables , fish and meat. Very friendly and helpful staff. The scenery is just stunning and the experience of the Northern Lights is fantastic. We would recommend this ship and cruise very highly and would happily do it again. Our thanks to everyone who made our time on board so happy. A huge bonus for us was that there was no TV and no evening entertainment. Lots of time for reading and playing board games and socialising.Every effort was made to make our time on board as pleasnat as possible. Hygiene is taken very seriously which we appreciated. We will look back on this trip with the happiest of memories.Special thanks to Marta, Yan and all the staff on board for all your efforts and cheerful assitance! Read Less

We have just returned from a weeks cruise on the Columbus. Ship is beautiful and all areas clean. Decor is lovely. Cabins fantastic. Food in waterfront restaurant absolutely superb every evening. Don't waste your money in the Grill restaurant! Food better in the Waterfront restaurant and it doesn't cost you £25 extra to eat in there!!! Very disappointing meal in there. 4/10 at most and that's being generous! We ate there as a treat to ourselves and were not impressed with anything! Service not as you'd expect. Slow and food was sent back by 2 in our party. Starters unimpressive and only the soup was decent. Steaks were average. Veg mostly sliced cooked peppers! Deserts not worth waiting for! I wish I'd listened to other reviews on here before we decided to try it for ourselves. Most staff on ship were friendly but some were unfriendly and rude to passengers and other staff members which was unpleasant to witness. Definitely need training in customer service and service with a smile. Some made you feel you were a nuisance! Just for asking for information or help. Blonde lady in tour office, name unknown but the manager I would imagine by the way she talked down to a lovely young lady working there. She was unhelpful and absolutely rude. The poor girl was embarrassed and was doing a fine job! Shows were average. Nothing spectacular but good and entertaining, very disappointing in having no star acts in the week we were there. The worst thing for us were we cruised when children were allowed on board a usually adult only ship. Our party are all young grandparents and love children but there's a time and place! Most entertainment was family friendly, meaning children's entertainment! So not a lot for us adults without children to entertain. Main annoyance was children being allowed in all bars and areas until all hours. Only area children were not allowed was the nightclub after 11pm and even that wasn't adhered to by some parents. Young Children were sat on bar stools in bars when adults were struggling to find a seat! Patents were responsible for their children's behaviour of course, but there should be rules regarding adult areas. Would not advise cruising when family friendly if your looking for adult entertainment and relaxing evenings!! I would definitely cruise with them again if adult only and hope they may have sorted out the bad staff from the excellent as many were. Our cabin was spotless. Good size. Beds very comfortable with fresh clean cotton bedding. Shower great size and powerful! Lovely white fluffy towels. We stayed on deck 6 ocean view. Friends were on deck 10 ocean view. Cabins pretty much exactly the same apart from they had tea making facilities. Drinks prices are the best we've ever had! Very reasonable. My review is honest and the critical points are to help future cruisers what to be aware of. Read Less
