This was our first cruise with RCC, although we have more than 30 cruises under our belt, mostly with Princess, HAL and Viking Ocean Cruises. We chose this sailing for the itinerary: Singapore to Barcelona 28 days total. Our cabin was a balcony 9th floor. First the Good: Excellent crew!! The BEST we have encountered; everyone was pleasant and polite (one exception below). Even the Customer Service group, which in other ships tends to be manned by unpleasant Eastern Europeans was absolutely wonderful. Smiles and hellos wherever we went. Kuddos to HR for choosing and training so well. Two minor cabin maintenance issues were resolved literally within minutes. Food: good in Windjammer; excellent in the dining rooms. The Bad: The ship had been in Asia for a number of years and virtually everything was geared to the Chinese/Asian clientele. For the first weeks only one TV channel was in English. Even the ship layout maps on each floor were in Chinese. Our itinerary, and the majority of passengers were not Asian. They should have prepared in advance for this change. There were no professional enrichment or port lectures, just pitches for spa/beauty treatments and Shorex excursions. Unbelievable!! And the library was miniscule, with little inventory. We paid through the nose ($3000 plus) for a Shorex multi day excursion to the Tahj Mahal. Contrary to our experiences with other Lines, RCC did not send a ship rep. with each group that went ashore..The result was a series of mishaps and abuses from Indian bureaucrats upon our return from Dehli. Our group spent more than 3 very hot hours trying to get back to the ship while "immigration and customs" went through the same documents over and over., probably looking for a bribe from the guide. Our Indian guides were helpless and no one from RCC came to our rescue. 2 dining room servers would greet us very loudly by our first names every time they saw us. Being friendly does not equate to being overfamiliar. Unless they offer an extraordinary itinerary, I don't think we will sail with RCC again. We are not into silly games nor rock climbing or ice skating at sea, and there is not much else to do except trivia and joining the hordes around the pools. And it gets old to see grown ups wearing "pinnacle" badges (yes, they actually wear them day and night) complaing that they are not getting the preferential service they "deserve" in comparison to the rest of us mortals. Chose this cruise for its repositioning itinerary. Prior to this cruise, the ship had been on short (3-4 day) gambling junkets out of Singapore targeted at Chinese passengers. Senior staff appeared not to have adapted policies and procedures for a longer cruise (15-30 days). (Some food items ran out early; insufficient recorded movies for the duration, daily charges were more appropriate for short rather than longer cruises, etc.) Their business model is to take advantage of their monopoly situation to soak passengers for everything aboard. $12 for a glass of wine; $15/day for poor internet service; charges for in cabin movies; no self serve laundry - we spent over $200 having 4 laundries done on our 30 day cruise. For their shore excursions into very hot climate (30 to 40 degrees C) we were warned to stay hydrated, and we could buy $3 bottles of water if we wanted. [Why would such a safety item not be included in the excursion cost?] On board tours (free on other lines) were expensive ($90 each for 2 hours). Although this cruise had been marketed to us as a sail from Singapore to Barcelona, Royal Carribean treated it as 2 cruises- Singapore to Dubai and Dubai to Barcelona. Perhaps this made sense to them, but it seriously inconvenienced passengers going the full way. We had to essentially "disembark" and "reembark" at Dubai, including clearing our account balance. In addition, hundreds of passengers (I heard 600 cabins) had to pack up and move to other cabins, some just a cabin or two away. This was despite pleas to just let everyone who wished to stay in their first cabins. To add insult to injury, we were required to line up at 5:30 AM for a half hour to provide credit card information for the second "cruise" - something we had already done 3 times! The ship was going for a shipyard refit after reaching Barcelona, so we knew some of the facilities would be a bit tired. And they were. Some obvious rust, balcony rails needed paint, carpets were stained, some rust in the hot water, dining room chairs felt greasy, some upholstry was stained, etc. Not that it was overall poor, just that in our opinion it was overdue for its refit. However, the cigarette stench in the casino and surrounding area was just disgusting. No excuse for that. When all these items were brought up to senior staff at the public meeting, they were dismissed as not worthy of considered responses. Shore excursions were generally well managed, but some guides were below par. Shore excursions arranged by the line were as much as twice as expensive as arranging them locally. During the first part of the cruise, there was no information about ports of call other than their seminar promoting the line's shore excursions. We were disappointed that there was no commentary from the bridge during our transit of the Suez canal. It was made very obvious to everyone that they were catering to their "Diamond" class passengers. Others did not rate. For example, passengers attending a scheduled card game session were twice told to move out for a "Private Function" for Diamond passengers with no alternative space provided for the card players. Passengers trying to buy drinks from the bar during "Happy Hour" for Diamond passengers could not even get to the bar. On the other hand, I have to commend the Captain and the line for the safety precautions they took going through the pirate zone and for their response to several medical emergencies during the cruise. We chose this cruise because of the itinerary. Absolutely no entertainment on this ship. There where to many pinnacle members on board so between 4and 8 you could not get a seat in a bar. The elevators did not work very good. The food was acceptable at best with no imagination one person told me the beef tasted like the locket was still on it. The food in the windjammer was often mislabeled (example sea food soup labeled bean soup could have been tragic for someone with allergies ) not enough staff. Bussing tables went to Johnny rockets and waited 20 minutes for service and no one even acknowledged we were there so we left not enough deck space on this ship But the ports were great I doubt that I will use RCCL in the future as they treated everyone that was not a pinnacle member like a second thought we were on that ship for 4consecutive cruises from April 2 to May 7 Read Less

Just returned from a fantastic holiday to Singapore Bali & dubai organized by Imagine Cruising the only problem was the holiday included a short 3 day cruise from Singapore to Malaysia. I wish we could have missed the cruIse out of the itinerary. The cabin was small & out dated even though it was supposed to be one of the better ones on the tenth deck. The worst part was the breakfast , the fight for a table in the Windjammer was unbelievable, dirty cramped tables, cold tasteless food that seemed like a back street cafe, We tried the breakfast in a lower deck but although not as busy whatever you had was guaranteed to be cold even the fried eggs that were like bullets, the toast had to be ordered from the waiters that tasted as if it was toasted the day before then warmed up. On the first day we booked a trip to Kuala Lumpur, then my wife's legs were playing up,so within 7 hours we asked to cancel it, only to be told sorry you still have to pay, unless we give you a doctor's note which will cost you £150 the trip was only £50! The whole feeling is "how much money can we get out of you" with water costing $5 for a litre & if you dare bring any on board they confiscate from you. Everyone we spoke to said this is NOT how Cruising is! It was Cheap & Nasty. SORRY Royal Caribbean. MARINER OF THE SEAS "NEVER AGAIN" Read Less

Embarkation was a bit of a debacle as having a junior suite we where supposed to get priority boarding this didn't happen. People where pushing and shoving. We paid extra for a Junior Suite which was right at the back of the ship on deck 7 the cabin itself although looking very tired was quite big and the balcony was very big with excellent views out the back of the ship. The problem was that it was at least 200mtrs from the lifts. The lifts where always busy and you had to wait ages to get one, due to medical conditions my husband cannot go up and down the stairs. Eating in Windjammer was a task just to find a table we ended up having breakfast in our room each morning and dinner in one of the restaurants. The shops on the promenade on deck 5 where all highly priced stores and I caught them out with a special on watches saying the gift boxes where $27 each but you could have 4 for $80 looking at the bottom of the box the price tag stated $19.99 each so there was no bargain to be had. On two separate occasions while dining at the more up market restaurants while enjoying our food and having a mouth full of food the ship photographer would come along and ask you to smile, I tried to tell them I have a mouth full of food so they just took a photo anyway. The entertainment of an evening left much to be desired and we found the most exciting part of the entertainment was watch the karaoke. As was the entertainment in the cabin with the continued boring repetitious kids movies. There is a kettle and coffee maker although you get 2 coffee bags and 2 tea bags we brought some in port to keep in our cabin along with some milk. Read Less

This was our 16th cruise and to be honest this was the one that left us underwhelmed. We paid for a balcony so we could, at our leisure, chill and look out at the ocean...if only the balcony door window had not been completely frosted that might have been the case. The seal had gone and we might as well have been looking at a wall. It had clearly been like that for sometime and of course they were unable to replace it. It was almost impossible to close the door as it was. Cabin was frayed around the edges, but of more concern was the broken hinge on the wardrobe. My wife bent down to get something off the floor and the sharp broken metal end smacked her on the head giving her a bruise and a dent in her head for a day. Dreadful. And tattiness was in evidence right across the vessel. Overall the entertainment was very average. Why they put shows on when people are still leaving the pool I will never know and there was a lack of things to do late night. The drinks prices were extortionate and don't forget the 18 per cent rip off surcharges on every purchase. Food was decent in restaurant, average in the buffet. They advertised formal nights but on RCL this still means flip flops and shirts for some. Waste of time. The ship's excursions were over priced ...paying a fortune to visit a jewellery shop, and peanut factory. We appreciated the early embarkation and late disembarking times and there were plenty of sunbeds. Of the destinations, Penang was poor - nit sure why it was included. Of all the cruise line we've been with this presented poorest value for money - RCL need to get their act together Read Less

We have traveled with RCL before and enjoyed the ships very much but this cruise was pretty poor. To start with the lifeboat drill was on deck in 34 degree heat and went on for over half an hour as many passengers turned up late, we were made to stand tightly packed in a line in the heat and sun, most unpleasant and no water was available. The cabin looked tired and grubby, it had damage to the bathroom mirror, worn faded carpet, no usual shampoo, body lotions were provided, tatty frayed towels and bed linen, the fridge hardly worked and was not cold, the aircon was poor and very noisy, the door to the balcony needed a superhero to open it and when you did get on to the balcony it was dirty with huge strips of paint peeling off the walls The worst problem with the cabin was that the bed was so uncomfortable I was unable to sleep for the 4 nights we were on board. The people around us were inconsiderate, shouting at all times of the day and night. When we went down to try to sort this out here were notices up at guest services to say there were no free rooms so we were unable to ask to change rooms. The ship was so full that you could not move in some areas, we were unable to eat in the restaurant as we were in a English speaking minority and it would have been embarrassing to be on a table with people and be unable to make conversation ( a big part of the cruise experience) and when we tried to use the Windjammer cafe it was heaving with massive queues every time. This was the same for the entertainment queues and people talking through out the shows. The whole cruise felt like a bad 3 star Spanish hotel experience. Since returning home we have discovered that this was the last trip before a re fit, this information should have been made available at the time of booking. Read Less

On a tour of the Far East we thought it was a good idea to relax for a few days on an ocean cruise out of Singapore. Right? Wrong! The ship seemed at almost full capacity and full of large groups clearly intending to try and stay together. The very loud parade on the first day set the scene for the four days on board. If we had wanted Disney we could have flown to Florida. We found it very difficult to find a quiet spot to relax. What they called a library was noisy and badly equipped. We felt like a cash cow waiting to be milked. To pay loaded drink prices and then pay an 18% gratuity surcharge, no matter how quick/slow, good/bad, indifferent, is out of order. Like to book a separate restaurant? That's extra. Like to pay for a couple of excursions of frankly appalling quality? We did. We should have been paid to go on Coach trips that were basically shopping expeditions not us pay for the privilege. Want a bottle of water as you exit the ship for these excursions? That will be extra. It might be an idea to install a PA system that can be understood as well. We booked dinner for a table of eight prior to sailing. We got a table of two. The cabin was jaded and the balcony scruffy. Hearing that the ship was to go into dry dock soon for improvements didn't help us at all. Anyway , we were able to find some refinement at Giovani's restaurant that provided an excellent menu of good food by excellent staff. We have been on many cruises and frankly this was the worst. Would we go on Mariner again? You must be joking., Read Less

Upon checking in we go straight ahead at windjammer for lunch, the place is crowded since everyone is hungry during checkin. There's a wide selection of food for lunch. We had our dinner at rhapsody in blue at deck 3 , limited choices but feel free to order more since its unlimited. We prefer the breakfast at the Deck 3 instead of having it at windjammer which is more crowded but have more options. Ice cream & hotdogs are free at deck 11. Cafe Promenade is open 24hrs free pastries, fruits & coffee, tea etc. The fitness centre at deck 11 is huge make sure to try. Deck 5 Helipad is accessible as well, go there during sunset. Now.... I have cruised a few times before on various lines but never RCI. All have been really good experiences with some very good service on them. Yes, I have had bad experiences on them too but only the odd problem like the waiter in the main dining room not being as attentive as he could of been or the barman who could not mix a cocktail to save his life. but nothing to ruin a holiday..... That changed with this trip. Now before I start I just want to say that this was part of a £13k package that was arranged through an agent. So. everything in place before we fly off to Singapore. Cruise documentation all done and dusted and printed off, credit card details given as requested. Whoop HOLIDAY TIME. Had a wonderful 3 days in Singapore. We both so want to go back as it was amazing. Anyway. arrived at the terminal and it was manic but not too bad (or so we thought). queued to go through the scanners, that was done within 10 mins so not too bad. We then had to join another queue for the check in desks.... 30 mins later we handed over out set sail pass. my credit card was taken and dealt with and we were given our cruise cards. Excellent stuff.... Ship here we come. Well it would of had it not been yet another queue of about 30 mins to get through customs. whoooo done. no not quite. Had a another queue to go through to get on the ship this time lol... this is not taking the p!$$.... Anyway, we finally get on board the ship and head off to our room on the 8th floor (8524). The room is. nothing special. but it is tired.... Very tired. Rips in the sofa and parts being quite thread bare. Anyway, luggage arrives so start to hang clothes up and the wardrobe door falls off and just misses my partners head..... It did get put back on after a very lengthy phone call to reception and not getting anywhere.... The room steward did get it sorted for us eventually. Walking round the ship does confirm that it is very very tired and defiantly in need of its impending refit (should of happened by now). We go and have a swim and jump in the hot tubs. very nice. and good service from the pool staff. We head off to our second sitting Dinner and expect to be sat at a table for 2 only to find that we are on a table for 10.... Not to impressed but it will do. The waiter introduces himself and gives us a menu and a wine menu. another couple on the table order a bottle of wine which was fine but the waiter wanted to give us all a free glass of wine as a hello and welcome on board. so we dont order a drink as we were getting a glass of wine....... We get our glasses filled with water and we order starters and mains. and then the wait began....... and went on....... and went on....... eventually the food turn up the waiters station and sat there as he was still waiting for the free wine to arrive..... we got fed up of waiting and ordered drink from the wine waiter which arrived within a few mins... still no food though..... Then he grabs 3 plates and turns to give us our starters and he stops mid step... turns round puts the plates back down and picks up a jug of water to refill someones half full glass of water then returns to get the food which he serves.... whoooo. Not quite, everyone sent their starters back as it was cold.... Hot starters served and finished... nothing special... pretty poor to be honest. but put it down to experience. Anyway. main course get served and this is now the worse dish I have ever eaten... Ship pad thai. Should have some good flavours and be a bit spicy.... nothing... no taste no flavour and no spice.... 2 mouthfuls and I left it.... Dessert menu delivered and I could not believe it.... No. cheese board. I gave up at that point and left the table and went to eat in the Windjammer... well I would of but it was shutting....... WOW. I thought this was a 24 hour buffet. NOPE. opens at 6:30am and closes at 9:30pm. Well to say i was disappointed was an understatement. Did not go back to the main restaurant for the rest of the cruise I was P!$$ed off with it. We ate in Chops Grill for 2 evenings which was really good albeit at additional cost. Now that was the service I was expecting in the main restaurant. 2 days in on the cruise and I get a letter stating that my Credit Card had issues and had not been able to be sorted for onboard credit. So off I go and get that sorted out. Pay the $80 fee that I had racked up and was told it was all sorted now and it will be OK. get back to room. Fold letter up and throw in the bin. The next day.... I get exactly the same letter. the exact same one I put in the bin the day before.... What the hell is going on. Off I go again to reception to get that sorted out. I was assured that it was OK and working. Well 1 day later I get a message on my phone saying that there was a problem with my credit card.... Off I march again with all my credit card slips showing that I had registered my credit card and made payments. Im so P!$$ed and insenses now I ask for the auto tip service charge to be taken off my account and i would tip those that had actually made a difference to our holiday. Ok, not a problem it will be removed over night..... Was it heck. So yet again I had to go see reception to sort my account out. The low and behold when I get back to my room I get a letter saying that if I didnt return the pool towels I would be charged $25 for each of them...... Yes you guessed it... Back to reception to sort it out. Man walking round with ipad had that bill removed within 30 seconds... me thinks they get loads of people with rouge towel bills... The staff on towel duty did like scanning cards twice for 2 towels but only scanning once when returning them..... EASY MONEY FOR RCI...... Did I enjoy my cruise. Yes, but not to the level I expected. Would I travel with RCI again NO.... not in a million years. They are just not for us. very disappointed with service and the ship. Had better service from the staff of CMV and The Marco Polo............. Read Less

There were 10 of us on this cruise to celebrate a 60th birthday. The embarking was conducted in an efficient and orderly fashion. The weather was perfect for the five day and the pool areas were inviting with plenty of sun lounges on the deck above and on the pool deck. We all had a balcony cabin on Deck 8 which was very comfortable and it was nice to be able to sit out on the balcony having a beverage and watching the world go by. Our steward/butler Rudi was very attentive and surprised us every day with a towel sculpture on our bed. We had told him we were celebrating our wedding anniversary and he put a heart shaped anniversary magnetic card on our cabin door, so lovely. The ship was explored top to bottom and the facilities were excellent. The food was great and we were able to dine at several place throughout the day and night. We pre purchased the beverage package which was definitely worthwhile, especially for bottled water, which we had alot, besides the alcohol! If you're a drinker of spirits would recommend the beverage package. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We didn't disembark at any ports as we had visited KL, Penang and Phuket several times and decided to enjoy our time on the ship. We all had a fantastic time and we all said we would definitely cruise again! The disembarking was again conducted in an efficient and orderly fashion and it didn't take long to go through customs and get a taxi back to our hotel. We highly recommend the cruise on The Mariner of the Seas to Southeast Asia. Read Less

in general all staff were professional. Jamaican cruise director had charisma and approachable. senior crew such as captain, vice captain, chief engineer were all happy to exchange brief conversation even though they were mostly like busy getting back to the control bridge when I saw them. Chinese cleaner for room 6367 was nice. If I were to be critical she missed the breakfast order sheet, which were already filled in from before my stay. I never need breakfast ordered but I noticed it never got changed. Apart from that very professional, as was all others who I walked past. catering staff at deck 11 Windjammer cafe were professional. I had a Filppino female and Ukrainian male waiter/waitress on deck 5 for dinner. Both were professional. The Ukrainian never asked for feedback whereas the Fillippino asked for it almost too often, as if she was not confident as her work or something is wrong. I appreciate that those feedback are important for them (having worked in the same industry) but sometimes it is too much. Food was great otherwise. Entertainment was good. The kid area needs looking at. Not sure if it was under Archie's remit but most of the toys there aren't supposed to be there. They were either not working because of no battery or it needed other bits such as balls to make it work as there were none. Looked great first glance but on closer inspection not quite what I would expect paying the price I did. This is important I feel as younger families with toddlers can't enjoy some of the facilities such as pool/steam room and they don't always have the time freedom to attend the shows in the evening. I understand that for the most part guests are more senior citizens but still. Happy days and I wish the crew and the company all the best going forward. Read Less

The ship is well laid out but very dated. Cruised 7 nights with ports of calls in Vietnam & Thailand , leaving and retuning to Singapore. Chops & Giovani's were very good pay for food venues. First night in dinning room food was luke warm but they recovered and we had much hotter meals although not a lot of diversity, dinning room service was so slow and lacking. Windjammer buffet was surprisingly good although very busy. We did Johnny Rockets and it has a very good hamburger. Unfortunately our Chefs table reservation which we had made months before for Valentines Day dinner was mixed up by the dinning staff and we ended up with out going which was very disappointing. Room attendant was good room was clean and everything basically worked, we had a balcony cabin and the balcony door was somewhat hard to open. The bed was very hard and not comfortable and the pillows were flat and hard, 2 bars of soap provided, RCI has dropped to Motel 6 quality so don't expect anything more Had fun play bingo, golf and various entertainment, bars and bar service was great. RCI shines in this department because it is a money maker. Lots going on most of the day and evening and cruise director Ricky was good. Shore excursion team was dismal, long line ups at shore excursion counter was the normal with only 2 people working and we were put on the wrong tour in Vietnam, basically dropped of in Saigon and given a map, we had booked the fully escorted city highlights tour. Docked in a commercial port with 2 hour drive to anywhere and nothing but shipping containers at the port. Again a dismal disappointment and shame on RCI. Thailand for 2 days and both tours were great, they managed to give us the tours we booked which was a surprise, again we docked at a container port 1 hour away from anywhere but at least the vendors were set up on the dock so there was something different to do at night. That stop was very enjoyable. Over all very dissapointed with RCI and after many cruises with this company we are moving on to another cruise company I just can't spend any more money in good concience a Motel 6 expereince. Having cruised around Asia from Singapore at the same time of year 4 years ago we decided to return for a shorter trip which started and ended in Singapore. We had not realised that the ship's guests would almost entirely be Chinese which very much changed the dynamic of our cruise and the emphasis on meals in the main dining room was Asian with remaining options being of poor quality. We were constantly encouraged to book in the Chops Grill and Giovanni restaurants where we understood from other passengers the quality was much better but have not had to pay out on previous cruises in order to get good food. The Windjammer buffet was manic and almost impossible to find a table as they appeared to be occupied by large Chinese families. The Promenade Cafe was the only place to get a soft drink and a snack during the day and in the afternoon it was almost impossible to get a seat. We have never experienced a cruise before where there hasn't been an ample choice of pleasant places to sit for a snack. We understood from one American traveller that he had been advised prior to sailing that this would be a very cultural trip but we had not been given such advice. We understand that the following week the passenger list would have been made up of about 1000 Europeans, 400 Australians and 200 Americans which would have made this quite a different travelling experience for us. On one night the show in the Savoy Theatre was almost entirely in Chinese with no translation whereas on previous nights when it had been in English there were big screens to the side of the stage with a Chinese translation. The ship was better than I had expected from previous reviews and our cabin was large and well maintained. A sudden flood from our toilet was dealt with very quickly and efficiently and caused us little hassle. The crew were friendly and helpful and we had no complaints. Having booked this cruise some time in advance it would have been helpful for a note to be on the website that this would very much be a Chinese New year celebratory cruise and we would have opted for a week later. Boarding was handled acceptably by Royal Caribbean staff but immigration was chaotic and the staff were rude and unhelpful. Our cabins were not available on boarding and we were told to go to the Windjammer Cafe but this was completely full and the noise level was incredible. Disembarkation was a better experience albeit we had to wait our turn in Studio B which has the Ice Rink so it was decidedly chilly! The Ice Show itself was the best thing about this cruise and was of a very high standard and most enjoyable. Read Less

The destination was the reason we chose the cruise. The food was not as good as usual, less choice than normal, no Chef's choice on the menu any more. The Promenade café is a good option for a quick bite to eat, sandwiches, pizza, cakes, coffee & tea available at all times. The ship is just a bit tired & in need of a refit, which I believe is due soon when she sails to Miami. The entertainment was also not to our taste, but the ice shows were very good. We found the service to be very good, most requests fulfilled quickly & efficiently. Check in & immigration was pretty quick & the rooms were ready quite early compared to previous cruises. Overall, considering the cost of the trip & age of the ship, it was a good value & enjoyable cruise with a great loyalty scheme with some valuable benefits. Read Less

We did a few consecutive cruises on this ship We had a brilliant conceige Kevin who made my Husbands Birthday very special Captain Claus and staff Captain Michail Kappas we met many times and are very professional Embarkation was a breeze and so was disembacation We found the food on board very high quality and we dined in the speciality restaurants and had wonderful meals with our buy one get one free offer We enjoyed the entertainment especially the ice skating show Top tip when we arrived in Laem Chabang port the taxis are very expensive and want to take six to eight people you can barter but it is quite pricey so share if you can We stayed overnight in The Hilton Pattaya which was amazing and we had a taxi back to the port the next morning at half the price that we paid to go to Pattaya Vietnam we did the half day cultural tour we booked this through Royal Caribbean it was an excellent insight and we were happy that we went. We ordered room service for lunch which they charge a fee to bring the trays to your room it was amongst the best room service we have had on any Royal Caribbean Ship The food was piping hot and the presentation was great When we docked in Penang you are able to walk off quite easily We had a good walk around and we ate where the staff of the ship recommended and it was amazing it was a food hall and there were Hawkers cooking and selling their home made food really good quality and very clean We travelled as a couple The dining room food was very varied so there was plenty of choice and we met a lot of new friends on my time dining The parade in the street is not to be missed. Loved the ship the crew and would highly recommend this cruise Read Less

I am a novice cruiser and this was my first time to travel on Royal Caribbean. I was very favorably impressed with this four night roundtrip cruise from Singapore. Fortunately, my friend and I upgraded to a Royal Suite and it really made our trip much easier than anticipated. We arrived at the cruise terminal early, check in was a breeze and we were one of the first groups to board the ship. The same was true of disembarkation. We especially enjoyed utilizing the concierge lounge that was made available to us. We are not big eaters, so to have the opportunity for a light buffet breakfast and evening appetizers was really all that we needed on this trip. We purchased a deluxe beverage/internet package in advance and it was well worth it! Our suite was a Grand Suite (very nice) and included a good sized balcony with two large lounge chairs and a table with two chairs. The service by the staff was exceptional. The ice skating show was nice and the napkin folding class was fun. We cancelled our first shore excursion in Penang because there was a last minute change in the itinerary. Thankfully, they alerted us the evening prior and we were provided a refund. The excursion in Langkawi was very good. We enjoyed a leisurely lunch and walked on the pedestrian bridge that links two mountaintops. I look forward to traveling on Royal Caribbean again and would highly recommend it to others. Having the suite was the key to our successful trip. Read Less

My booking class was Owner's suite on deck 10. 2 adults and 2 kids. Checkin was fairly smooth as there was separate counters for suite passengers and had no queue. Plenty of staff to guide through. Immigration too was real quick and we were onboard. The passports had to be surrendered (which were returned on a day before checkout). Once we entered the cruise, no welcome drinks offered. Which I thought was strange. we were told to go and have lunch at level 11 or level 3 which wasn't really communication. We were not told if we could go straight to our rooms instead , freshen up and then go for lunch. Anyways we went ahead for lunch at Windjammer café which was worse than a fish market (all 3 days) and worse experience one can have on a LUXURY Cruise. People jumping on each other, hardly any tables available and whatever was available was not really clean. Anyhow we fed the kids on some really average food...something that didn't change on any of the days at Windjammer café. We had an option of eating at Level 5 Sound of Music for lunch and dinner but most of the time either they are closed or their timing to enter are so strict that you feel like you are in a boarding school than on a luxury cruise ship to relax. We hardly managed to eat two times in that sit down restaurant. Things to do : As per the brochure and the printed material they sent every day to the room, it seemed there is plenty to do but what you can eventually manage is very few. We could barely see a couple of shows as the timings keep clashing with the lunch, dinner timings and given that elevators take forever to come, it can be quite painful taking the stairs to go from deck 3 to deck 13 for different things. Kids Play : Its fine for kids from ages of 3-6 but for smaller or elder kids its only for name sake. The areas are either closed or there is no one to attend. Pools : There are 4-5 different pools but a couple of them were closed down when we sailed. Bars : Plenty of them onboard especially on deck 11 where there are pools. Late night party : there was 2 late night parties near the pools which was excellent. Checkout : Again confusion. We were supposed to have a separate checkout earlier than the crowds checked out but their staff didn't know what was going on and while we were still exiting we saw a rush of people behind us. Almost a stampede and scare with 2 small kids. Overall rating 2/5. Read Less

I enjoyed this cruise because is very family oriented. The Entertainment and activities are suitable for the young and old. The cabin is very clean. Dining = food are fresh and delicious. The services is excellent, all the crews members are very helpful. Ports and Shore Excursions: When we port at Penang, I have arranged a van to pick us up to go to eat their local food because Penang the Penang Laksa, Chendol, Fried noodles, Seafood and many many more.... and must visit their Street Art and the Chew Jetty is UNESCO World Heritage site. We also went to Gurney Drive by the beach and of course shopping. When we port at Phuket, first is go for Tradition Thai Body Massage and after that eat Thai spicy local food, the Sticky Mango rice and their sweet fruits and Thai Dessert. Cruise is always the best way to travel from countries to countries because I do not need to every day or two pack my luggage move from one place to another, one hotel to another, I do not need to worry which restaurant for dining and book tickets for entertainment. I am going for my Baltic Scandinavia & Russia Cruise on Jul 2018, I am looking forward for my St Petersburg Land tour. I have arranged my land tour with ALLA TOURS because my sister had enjoyed her land tour with Alla Tours during her cruise in 2016. I wish if I am able to meet some to the Cruise Critic members on board. Best Regards Owl Man Read Less

My friend and I cruised for 7 days on the Mariner of the Seas. This trip included: Singapore, Penang, Langkawi, KL and Phuket. We had an absolutely fantastic time both on board and off. The staff were very attentive from the front desk to the dining areas. Serena on reception was lovely and very helpful when we had an issue with our Cabin on Day 2. My favorite part of the cruise was most definitely the entertainment. My favorite show of the cruise was 'Gallery of Dreams', both singers and dancers were absolutely exceptional! Charlotte (leading singer) is incredible...it was a shame there was only two shows! Also, we couldn't believe there was an ice skating show on board, these guys were absolutely brilliant and very talented. Massive well done and thank you to the entertainment crew, you guys are great!! :) My favorite port was Langkawi, we had a great day exploring the island and the port is in walking distance. The trip was really good, but I have to compare with other travels we, me and my husband have done with Royal Caribbean in other places of the world . The cabin 9250 is a good size, but I think is a little old, the restroom mirrors were a little old and in the varanda we have just 2 chairs, not a small table, as is usual. The food was quite well, but I think it is more for oriental people , mixing flavours, then for me it was not the usual food we are used at Royal Caribbean. The service from the staff at the restaurant was great, i loved them . We really think that is a little boring that the staff in the ship, not our dinner staff, insist on selling some activities like a brunch, or insisting that we have the special plates , paying more for that, this occurred when we went in other time dining, and we think these were a little boring. When we agree to share the tables with others passengers, they sometimes have not good moods at the table. What was the best, was that they put in our table , we were four fiends sailing , two couples , and they mixed us with other people, but with the same language, they mixed brasilians with a portuguese couple , and this was great, we became friends. These is the first time that occurs to us at a cruise and we loved it. There were two greats shows, the art duo , wonderfull , and the ice show , that was really nice. Two other nights were cinema at the theatre, we didn't enjoy it, we like at the pool deck. The jacuzzis and the pools were great, good temperature of the salt water and stayed open a lot of time. We made only one excursion with the ship, at Port Klenang , to go to Kuala Lumpur and it was Ok. Excursions in general are overpriced , like in the other ships and other companys. We have loved Thailand , Phuket ,but we didn"t love Malasia, but it was just ok. There are not a lot of good itineraires and we choose the only one possible for us. We would prefer going from Singapore to Vietnan, but we didn"t have other options at that time. Friends that were with young people said they loved the activities on the board, with other young people from allover the world !! Read Less

Went with a group of friends on an already planned trip to southeast Asia which included a 7 day cruise on Royal Carribean Mariner of the Seas. Having cruised on Carnival, Disney, Norwegian, Seabourn, Crystal and Oceania I feel I have experienced a breadth of ships. The staff was very friendly and the shows were good. This ship was incredibly dated, with lots of peeling paint on our deck, damaged furniture and a paucity of toiletries. The food was mediocre at best. The ship always felt incredibly crowded. I felt nickel and dimed as even fresh squeezed orange juice was extra. Towels had to be signed out and returned, or there was a 25$ fee per towel. Is there so much towel stealing that this was really necessary? We booked one shore excursion through the cruise and when we arrived, found that the cruise cancelled the trip on the day we chose and put us on that excursion the day before. They did not inform us of the change, and unless one of our group spotted it, we would have not been able to get a refund, as we already had something else booked for that date. I thought that was incredibly unprofessional of them not to inform us the minute they knew of the change. This was my first venture on Royal Carribean and truly I was expecting a classier experience.
