Subject: SilverSea Cruise , Lisbon to Barcelona Unfortunately the little details were a negative. TV with a remote that has to be changed 1 channel at a time is prehistoric. 10 years past its time. also not a good list of channel offerings. 2 of 3 movie channels worked . channels 1-5 all about Silver sea. Yes they acknowledge it’s a problem. WI Fi also dated. i paid the extra $200. for premium and extra 50.00 to add 3 users. still very slow. not 21 st century. cruise advertises premium alcohol yet when we go to dinner and ask for a better wine than what is served it is an extra charge. Food was average at best. Also sorry that local fare foods were not offered. Closing invoice added $18.00 for a silver sea chosen donation. It’s not the money, It’s the fact that you added it without authorization. My first cruise and I was expecting 5 star everything. Unfortunately 3 star rating at best. The ship overall is a bit dated. Staff was hit and miss. some great, some not so accommodating. The web site pre boarding was great once logged in you could book dinners, spas, shore excursions. All this was great and easy to look at overall trip on any given day and get info and update, Problem is once you boarded this site was no longer available. said you can’t book once on board. OK but now overall schedule is gone with info. told me they know it’s a problem . Sorry. Now you must ask dress code for each day and it not only changes daily it also applies differently to each restaurant. Concierge service lacks any info for ports we stopped at. Also they were only open 2-3 hours in the am and 2-3 hours in the pm. Also not very accommodating. Overall a real disappointment for the money we paid. I in good faith could not recommend this cruise line. Read Less

We like the cruise it was small ship i was shock about the jogging track it didn't look like the picture . Emergency drill was get but when the crew did there they barge in room 422 that where they keep the crew life jacket . . They block with rope between 429-431 & 433-435 other than that it was fine so you step over to get to the main dinner restaurant and elevator . For people confusion there was no 430 or 434 . The newspaper was a day behind unfortunately the sad part it was on the tv & in your itinerary . Free movie, free tv show episode , menu , live tv with 20 channel. The fitness centre was great so there were 2 separate and new machine call scale runner for kid to understand it like the the dog walker treadmill in Jetson . There no elevator to deck 9 . You can tour other sliver sea ship and eat for a day but be back on your original boat by 6pm. Not lot of kids around 6 with 2 babies what hear about the sliver spirt there was about 6-8 on that boat. Show room and card room was master so was the library and panorama lounge. Read Less

We sailed on this ship because of the itinerary and because we had sailed on the Silver Whisper 9 years ago -- that time the ship was exceptional and we have wonderful memories of that cruise. The ship is now showing its age and needs a complete makeover - - not just a change of the carpet - - a complete makeover. It needs to be modernized both as to technology and aesthetics - - furniture and furnishings. Also, the engine room smell in the middle of the ship needs to be completely resolved! The crew and the service were the best part of our experience. The food in La Terrazza was very, very good, the food in the Restaurant was good, but not exceptional. Hot Rocks was okay - - a bit messy until the chefs cooked our meal for us. Our meal in La Dame was very disappointing - - who rolls Dover Sole? You're catering to people who have options and are blessed to experience some of the nicer things in life. Yes, we are on a cruise ship, but comparing the luxury you advertise to the luxury offered at some of the fine hotels (e.g., Four Seasons and small Relais Chateaux hotels), they are superior to you - - - you need to step up your game. We would not sail on the Silver Whisper again - - maybe a new Silver Sea ship but not a ship that is nearly 20 years old. Read Less

Sailing on Silver Seas is very expensive. Silver Seas touts themselves as being a six star cruise line. When Silver Seas advertises themselves as the very best they leave little room for error. This is our second time to cruise with Silver Seas we sailed through the Panama Canal in 2010. Our experience in 2010 was the reason we sailed again in 2018. In 2010 we were treated as if we were royalty. In 2018 we were treated as if were a step above common folks. We were not treated to a similar 2010 experience not even close. We were on a tour in Boston to the JFK Library and the tour guide asked how many people would recommend Silver Seas and no one raised their hand. His comment was he would buy everyone a second desert that night, no one laughed. Let's do the math we we stayed on the 9th deck with a veranda for 11 nights it cost me approximatly $675.00 a night and my wife $675.00 or $1,350.00 a night. This did not include our airfare to and from or our tours. The ship met us in Montreal we stayed at the William Gray a boutique hotel in old Montreal for $400.00 we spent an average of $300.00 a day on food and drinks and our accommodations and food was outstanding. $700.00 verses $1,350.00. On our 2010 cruise our butler serviced three cabins on our 2017 cruise our butler serviced 15 cabins. My wife was never escorted to dinner this year. I'm not saying our butler performed poorly this year this year to reach the butler I had to use the telephone I called and he promptly responded. In 2010 I didn't use a telephone to reach the butler the butler anticipated our schedule that year. Breakfast was great every day plentiful with too many selections tasty along with excellent servers. Lunch on the pool deck was fantastic along with exceptional service. Dinner on the fourth floor was average often I never saw anything that looked appetizing. I did see hamburger offered twice each night. I did have a few good meals. The service was uneven servers were assigned many tables and as a result servers over served dinner tables often stumbling over each other and asking redundant questions. It appeared that they couldn't determine what color of wine I was drinking. I thought they knew what color of wine I was drinking by the shape of the wine goblet p, but they couldn't. I wii say eating at their Italian restaurant was excellent and if you do ask for Davide our favorite server, he made us feel special. After all isn't that what we all want! Wine selections were great. Liquor selections were old fashion especially in their tequila choices. Nothing special. Oliver in the bar was outstanding. On my first cruise in 2010 I was given a special kitchen tour because I had charged my trip using my AMEX Platinum card. The chef told me he could get me anything I wanted with 24 hour notice. This year I decided to put him to the test. I asked for frog legs I was told they would check. I was told no frog legs. I didn't feel special. I thought the ship hadn't made port in Halifax, Portland, Maine or Boston surely in one of those ports they could have found frog legs! Read Less

I have always liked the Whisper but will never take a segment of a world cruise again. In this segment, the majority of the passengers had been on this cruise since January and had established little groups to dine, drink and socialize thus the new passengers had to find other new passengers in order to have a good time. This segment from Dubai to Athens had fewer new passengers due to the possible danger passing Yemen and other countries in the news but the tours to Luxor, Petra and Gisa were very worthwhile and Silversea takes precautions and has never had a threatening incident. The familiar crew on the Whisper helped make the trip more enjoyable. On the next segment from Athens to Monte Carlo, it was reported that 160 new passengers would board so I'm sure they outnumbered the tired world cruisers but we have cruised the Mediterranean many times and had seen many portsand we departed the Whisper in Athens. The food was wonderful in all dining venues and tasted better than I had remembered. The evening entertainment was professional and entertaining, Day lectures were educational and worthwhile and included a travel professional who highlighted the upcoming tours with a visual presentation describing history and cultural advice and additional sights. On days at sea, two speakers entertained passengers, one on British spies during World War 1 and two The other speaker told us his fascinating experience in Africa with camels. He actually rode by camel across the Gobi desert. Also on the British experience in Africa. The swimming pool was active with sun worshippers throughout the day as well as the hot tubs. Underwater exercises took place at 2 pm followed by water volleyball at 3. Read Less

The last few holidays, we have traveled Cunard and loved it. Wanting to embark from the U.S., we decided to give Silversea a try. The marketing suggested upscale and the price certainly reflected upscale. From the outside things looked pretty great. Once we stepped into the cabin, we got a surprise. Start with stains on the floor, drapes, and outer bed blanket. Friends offered to cut the frazzles off the frayed and very outdated sofas. The glass coffee table was seriously scratched. The dressing table was less than one foot from the end of the bed. My husband had to climb over the bed while I dried my hair. The verandah floor was shop worn and had two plastic sitting chairs with no cushions, and table. I suppose you could have put your foot up on the table for relaxing. Our room, 626 was noisy. It had a loud vibration. We thought the food was delicious and beautifully presented. We also found it difficult to get reservations at the other restaurants. Service started out great. After New Years, the staff size decreased. And they seemed less interested in pleasing. A good training motto for staff might be, "A 1000 dollars a day for our clients means you give them 1000 dollar service for each day!" While the cruise was all inclusive, I don't drink alcohol but like virgin mojitos. After New Years, I was told the limes and mint were gone. Sorry! Food also went down hill after New Years. My biggest surprise, was the spa. The prices were right in line with Four Season, Regent Cruise, etc. The robe I was given had a big rip. And the waiting area included a few dark brown sofas and tables. Something you would find in a medical clinic waiting area. The refridg had nothing in it. The staff were chatting it up. It was not a place to relax. And….if you wanted to use the warm stone chair, whirlpool or sauna, you were asked to pay another 29 dollars. Not one thing about this spa said, "awww." We bought our tickets in March and paid 11k per person. We met other guests who paid as little as 6k. The cruise gave us 1000 to spend "in-house." Right after New Years, the internet connection (we used 250 to buy minutes) went out. It stayed out for the rest of the cruise. Some of the passengers were offered a 50 (nonrefundable credit.) Had they offered the credit sooner, I may have used it in the gift shop. I let the hotel director know right away about our room, and within the hour, he came to the cabin. Very attentive. We booked our own excursions as the excursion planned by the line were not appealing. There were some nice thing about this cruise, however the bad outweighed. We won't use it again. Read Less

As longtime luxury cruisers (we've been regulars on Seabourn and Silversea and earlier on NCL, Holland America and Royal Caribbean), our recent experience on the Silver Wind was, in a word, "MEH." Our Venice check-in was seamless--no lines, everyone very nice. The ship looked lovely from the outside as well. Unfortunately as an older vessel, the Silver Wind was certainly showing her age once we got inside. The carpets were worn/dirty, décor very dated and stuffy, railings rusted and chipped and overall ambiance just fair. Our cabin was perfectly fine--it had everything we needed and was very clean. Our butler was terrific and attentive as well. The deck space was tight--if you're sitting on a lounge chair on the upper deck (which was floored in yucky astro turf), joggers are running right past you. There are little if any private corners or nooks and crannies in which to set up. We were distressed to learn that on our first night, which was an OVERNIGHT in Venice, that no transportation was provided. WHAT?!?! What's the use in having an overnight in an amazing port if you can't get there? The chilly front desk folks were hard pressed to explain why. Also distressing was that the specialty restaurants were "sold out" or "waitlisted" even though we had begun the process months earlier. As for the food--eat off the boat! La Terrezza was acceptable and pleasant on the back of the boat, the main dining room was fine, though very catering-hall like, and Le Champagne was overpriced and over-long. The breakfast buffet was TERRIBLE, sorry to say and the food around the pool deck for lunch was cafeteria quality. Though nobody's fault, the demographic on this particular ship was a good 20 years older than our mid-50s. While everyone was very nice, it did have a geriatric-ward feel. Evening "entertainment" was weak at best--singers, classical music, singers and more singers. UNCLE! Bottom line: the itinerary was terrific and staff well meaning. The ship and food however were a solid C+. We'll go back to Seabourn, or wait for a new Silversea ship thank you. Read Less

Just returned from 9 days on Spirit Venice - Istanbul. Lovely people/guests, great staff, and wonderful ports of call. Entertainment - missable. Shore excursions very expensive - cheaper to do it on your own. The furnishings, being that it is their newest ship, are out of Victorian times and very dark, tired and depressing. TV in cabins is difficult to fathom out and you need glasses to view it as it is set behind glass and has a minute screen!! Food - a lot to be desired, badly presented, boring and certainly not 5* or 6*. Presentation needs a lot to be desired and quality of food definitely poor and uninspired. The upmarket "special restaurant La Champagne" where you pay $40 per head for the privilege, was so bad we walked out but were still charged. We waited 25 minutes from entry into the restaurant before anyone even spoke to us, offered a drink, menus or even a crust of bread!! It would have been nice to have seen the Captain or his "elite staff" even once on the ship apart from general introductions at the beginning. They were all in hiding. Compared to other cruise lines - Regent, Seabourn, Crystal, this ship or line comes way way done the list and certainly is not 6*. Very very disappointing. Read Less

This was my first time on this ship AND i will be back BUT. PRO'S I expected much more for the money we have payed and what others were talking about. The ship is beautiful spotless and alot of quiet time spaces. very nice food choices. The restaurant was our favorite. My husband liked the Italian. . Lovely lovely surroundings. CONS. I have been on the Cunard the THE GRILLS , people who have this special service recommended it. I would ssay the SIOLVER SPIRT is like a big GRILLS> BUt, i must say the butlers were not attentive meaning ours. I heard others complain. I had to ask several times for tea. I had requested and this was not meeet on a daily basis. THe restaurant s the Rock is great, but the table was not cleaned after all of the grease from the live cooking. ( this was so sad). The food was delicious but who wants to be covered in grease on the table. The restaurant again was our favorite., BUT the waiters would forget and leave you unattentive. We change several times to another table, where we recieved great seervice. I must say there uniforms were sometimees dirty. There were spots on their ties. I guess there is no inspection. I just expected premier service in the look and there attire, shamefull i would say. The music duo in the rocks or lunch by the pool was ok, we must of heard the same 10 songs over and over. God was this annoying. Sometimes it is sooh hard to sit on a cruise and hear the same songs for 17 days. The tours, was lucky because the tour people at the desk did not not now alot of information about the tours. They were very poor. I think SS should go on some of thises tours first before they send us. I am talking about the Mexico tous mainly they were AWFULL at best. The otheres were great. The mexico tours were selling us real estate and telling us to come back and buy, really. I thought that the guests should have dress a little better than sloppy attire and try to evade dressing up on formal nights. I hope IF i choose this ship things will be better. There was alot of repeated custmers that said that SS is not the same, tooo bad. Read Less
