My wife and I like small ships rather than the large cruise ships because they are more intimate and feature the ports of call as the selling point versus the large floating hotel concept. We also focus on which ports the cruise will call on rather than the time of year or size of boat. This cruise was the second time on Silver Whisper, a Baltic Sea cruise being the first time. On this cruise we liked its origination port of Monte Carlo and conclusion in Lisbon. Portugal is a very interesting country to visit and we will go back. We also thought most of the ports would be very interesting, or provide access to exceptional Spanish cities. As we found out, Malaga and Cadiz allowed us to visit Granada and Seville, both the gems of Andalusia. Most of the tours were very good although on whole we thought Seabourn's tours are better. One tour to Granada was wait listed so we opted to use our travel agent to set up a private tour. Otherwise the ship's tours of Seville and Barcelona were excellent! Once you come back for a second cruise you become a member in their Venetian Society, and they hosted a remarkable excursion one evening in Barcelona that was very good! We normally try to book the larger Silver Suites which are similar in configuration to the Seabourn suites. Our suite, however, was better than the Seabourn suites by being wider and more spacious. We especially like their hot rock feature on the Pool deck, which we enjoy immensely! The October time frame was nice from a temperature perspective, but the captain skipped two ports due to high winds/seas so there is a trade off for booking at end of the season. Crew was very nice and the butler element is a nice touch not present on Seabourn. On previous trip in Baltic Sea we hit all of the restaurants, but this time, due to the presence of a wine tour group, most of the evenings were already booked. As such we were unable to compare with previous dining experience. We generally do not go to the Restaurant on deck 4. All in all a cruise that was very memorable! Read Less

I Originally looked at the destination, followed by the ships proposed luxury level followed by the amenities primarily the possibilities for the restaurants. it was my wifes 55th birthday during the cruise and was planning to have somthing special with a special dinner among other things. WRT to the destination and ports my evaluation is 8.5/10 WRT to the luxury level ins suite my evaluation is a 9/10 WRT to overall luxury level of the ship 8/10 WRT to the entertainement, an specially the evening show at the auditorium my evaluation is 10/10 WRT to access to the restaurants my evaluation is a 5/10 as I had been trying to make a reservation ( including a special note to my profile) since the day I confirmed my reseravtion ( clos to 2.5 months before the cruise date) I was not able to do so ( La dame restaurant). other nights I was on a wait list and this is only when I was on the ship. so generally for that portion I would not recommend Silverseas for other amenities 50/50 Read Less

I've done silver seas cruise before and had a really good experience. The ports of calls are spectacular. We had to divert from Santorini which was the most anticipated port for us. This was a bummer but the captain decided to re-route to a different port and substitute rather than spend another day at sea. We ended up going to Corfu which was such a great experience and so beautiful. This was really nice. So everything worked out well and we still saw a lovely place. The staff were all so friendly and helpful with such amazing attitudes. They made it a point to remember us by name and great us like they knew us already--impressive. The cruise director was great. We loved the idea of being in a different port every day. Cruising over night and arriving the next morning. The schedule was great. I only have one query as I booked a private gondola ride in Venice. I got a call from the activities director I guess early that day saying that they had booked us on a shared ride 4 guests. He proceeded to tell me that it's the same as a private ride and really no big difference blah blah. So I went with it. At the activity we were with another 8 individuals. we ended up two boats of four and one couple had a private gondola ride with music serenade. We were sitting with the other couple staring at them the whole time and really being forced to have conversation...... This couple was also dealt the same hand and were not too happy about sharing a gondola. If I booked a private tour obviously I wanted this experience to be very special with just my wife on her first trip to Venice. That took away from that. We still enjoyed it but the intimacy was taken away from us. Read Less

The ship is gorgeous, the staff is supreme, the food is wonderful. Our only criticism is regarding activities and entertainment. The highlight of every afternoon was Bingo and team Trivia. Not our idea of exciting and unique entertainment. There was also only a limited amount of board games on the ship. Throughout the 16 day cruise, food service was very slow, but the food quality was superior, as was the staff. The issues seemed to always be in the kitchen. One night, in the level 4 dining room, it took over 3.5 hours to complete dinner. We gave up on the idea of dessert. The head chef was very kind and seemed quite good at her job. I did go on a tour of the galley. I will give the benefit of the doubt. It’s a newer ship and there is a learning curve. They need to figure out how to shift focus on specific restaurants when business has higher than normal traffic. With all this said, we generally had a very good experience and plan to continue to use Silversea. Read Less

We decide to chose a top end cruise line having previously been many times with Princess, Royal Caribbean and Oceania. We were not disappointed but we were occasionally surprised. Silversea fellow travellers we found extremely loyal to the cruise line and were in many respects the best advocates for the company. In fact, we were telling people that we wanted to try Seabourn for a future cruis and most tried to talk us out of it! The loyalty is u deerstalker dabke given the consistently high level of service and willingness of staff to help. In restaurants, bar and pool area we enjoyed constant attention, with nothing being too much trouble for the crew. Silversea claim almost 1:1 crew passenger ratio and I had no reason to doubt that. It should however be noted that the ship was not full. On earlier reviews I read some complaints that service in restaurants was slow, we experienced none of that. Our cabin, at first 918, a Veranda (4) class cabin was spacious, well maintained and benefitted from excellent butler service. Unfortunately we detected that the air con system was under performing but it took us 3/4 days to convinc the staff that was the case. I won’t bore you with the details but when confronted with the evidence they then moved very quickly to change cabins which, given the ship was not full they could do. The move was entirely managed by the butler team amd was no hassle and worth It. It’s a shame it took few days to sort out, but sort it they did. We enjoyed good enrichment lectures and frankly met some fascinating people from many different parts of the world. What’s more the flexible management of the restaurants meant we could meet and dine with him different people whenever we wished. The restaurant staff were very flexible and accommodated us when we wanted, and wi5 whatever size group they’d were presented with. Full marks to them. Some areas of improvement would be to offer internet free, even if they up the package price. The one hour free service followed by high charges undermines the upmarket brand. Two of the five tours we didn’t were rubbish. The catermaran trip in the Whitsunday Islands amd the visit to the Coral reef HQ aquarium in Cairns we’re over priced and dull in our opinion. The gym is fine but not a lot of effort goes into the water aerobic sessions which were repetitive and not of a very high standard. The entertainment is at best average but good enough to sit and enjoy a cocktail with, but truthfully if you want great entertainment go elsewhere. Finally, the bar could do with brightening up, although the service isn’t again brilliant. How the bar team remember our particular drink is anyone’s guess. Be in no doubt though, we love our trip and will be back. Read Less

Wanted to give the Muse a second shot before final impressions, since the Sept cruise (our fist one on the Muse) was its maiden crossing. Also, had booked this in place of an 8-day Whisper cruise which we had booked but which had gotten chartered out from under us. Since there was room enough in the suite, we brought one of our sons with us, age 35. This was our twenty-sixth Silversea cruise. We were in a Silver Suite on deck 10, previous cruise was on deck 11. As expected, the suite was really identical to the first one. Two exceptions: 1: the rainshower head was more mobile than the first time (first time it was either frozen in place or installed as a fixed shower head) and 2: the hot water came and went during the shower. Once the hot water was "fixed" on the first cruise, the temp was pretty steady. We started from Barbados (we had flown from the US two days before for some beach time, which got somewhat rained out during the one full day we had no obligations, and the winds were high leading to rough water). Embarkation on the 6th was easy as pie. Took a hired car from the hotel to the ship. No line. Luggage got settled very quickly. The usual white-gloved greeting at the gangway entrance to the ship, outside the reception area on deck 5. Included prosecco, water and juice. We were given our room keys when we checked in at the pier, and then were photographed for the ship ID card and turned in our passports at the reception area, prosecco in hand. That ID card gets you on and off the ship, so keep it safe and handy. We boarded about noon or so, with lunch available either in Terrazza (buffet) or Atlantide (table service). We chose the latter. Very cordial and attentive staff. Had to fill out the standard medical questionnaire re: gastrointestinal and cough disturbances. SUITE and SUITE SERVICE: Was sweet. Since we knew the ship, it was easy to find our suite after lunch. Some of the luggage was already there, some not (like mine). Nevertheless, those of us who could unpack did so. Since we were at leisure, we took our time, not a lot to do except wander about the ship (gave our son a tour) and attend the mandatory life-boat drill. No muss no fuss for the lifeboat drill, just follow the oral instructions. We had a different butler from the first cruise, but the same suite attendant, who remembered a lot of our preferences (i.e. the makeup of the bed blankets, refrigerator preferences, etc). When we did meet our butler, it was later in the afternoon, and he was able to find my suitcase (which took a long time to show up). A couple items went out for pressing from having sat in the suitcase for a few days--like my suit for the formal nights. Throughout the cruise, butler and suite attendant service was outstanding. Our son decided to use the couch itself for sleeping, rather than having it made up as a pull-out bed. Since his sleeping hours were irregular, the cabin staff worked around him for suite service, for which we were ever grateful. Our bed was firmly comfortable. And, as advertised there were robes in the suite. We recommend going up one or two sizes, since they run a little on the small side. Between the bed and the nightstands were reading lights, one each side, focusable and independently operated from the lighting system. Those came in handy. There was a clock radio with an iPod dock on the makeup table at the end of the bed, and this came in handy but was the only clock in the bedroom portion of the suite. So if you need something for your nightstand, bring a travel clock or a well-lit watch. The refrigerator door doesn't close very well, depending what's in it. There's an ice bucket in the fridge as well as cans and bottles. Plus, if you put a bottle of bubbly of some kind in there, it gets pretty crowded. Suite staff will bring just about anything in the way of wines, spirits, liqueurs and waters and they're complimentary, except the real premium stuff, which has a price list. Suite and loo/shower area were kept very clean. Shower and tub were separate. Verandah (balcony) was great in good weather (which we had). They are larger than the verandahs in the verandah suites themselves. A couple minuses: the TVs are embedded in the walls. This means the TV speakers can be heard through the wall. Our understanding is that this is being corrected. Never was really a problem for me, but the sound can come through if it's pretty quiet in the affected suite. Also, there are very few drawers in the closet area. So stuff was piled on shelves instead of in drawers. Different from other Silversea ships we have been on. Safe is small, not suitable for a full size laptop or iPad (iPad mini fit, barely). Plenty of space for shoes. Wooden and satin-padded hangers abound. One thing noticeable about this ship in contrast to other ships, hardly any real wood. Plastic laminates for walls and the uncarpeted floors, plastic wall frames, bannisters. Light colors which enhanced the feeling of spaciousness. DINING: There are eight venues, all different, and we took advantage of five of them (had done LaDame previously; we passed on Kaiseki and Silver Note (which we had also done previously). So that left Atlantide, which has a weekly changing menu, Indochine, (also a weekly menu), Terrazza, less frequent change, Spaccanapoli (pizza--thin crust) and Pool Grille. In the past, the paticular restaurant dictated the dress code. Now the dress code has been revised to reflect standard formal, informal and casual nights ship-wide. Please note that informal means jacket (no tie necessary) in any indoor venue after 6PM. If you prefer casual, you have to be outside or in your own suite. Contrary to previous availabilities, course-by-course restaurant dinner service is NOT available for room service (since there's no "retaurant")...there is an "All Around Dining" menu for that. Pretty standard stuff, but nothing like in the various venues. And I had to special order chicken soup for one of the venues (came as a consomme with thin julienned carrots). The triple-clarified beef consomme was EXTREMELY spicy, couldn't finish, even though it was in a small bowl. We ate at pool grille the first and last nights. Pretty windy, we had to wrap up. There are infrared heaters there and at Spaccanopoli. Very loud diners at some of the tables, especially the second time. Overall the food and beverages were great in all the venues, and the menu changes added to the variety. If you want a special order, like rack of lamb or steamed rather than grilled lobster tail, have to state so 24 hrs in advance. They are very accommodating. Some minuses: In Terrazza, the doors to the alfresco dining area can tend to stay open, and if it's windy outside, it's windy for part of inside too. Sometimes service is slow, depending on the experience of the waitstaff. Be prepared to take an hour and a half for dining. Atlantide and Indochine are open seating dining. On two occasions there was no space available when we went to Atlantide...the wait would have been at least 45 min. So we went over to Indochine, got seated right away. Terazza has two hand-washing sinks for guests, which we didn't see used very much, although we used them all the time. They're a good idea, especially since good handwashing beats sanitizer spray, especially to control norovirus. The line ought to award prize points to passengers with each use. Lunch was also avilable on the pool deck, with the accompanying bar service. Very nice pool deck menu. And much of the stuff is prepared right before your very eyes. During at-sea days, sometimes special dishes are prepared right on the deck, like paella. ENTERTAINMENT and ACTIVITIES: We did not attend any enrichment lectures, in contrast to previous cruises). We did co to a couple of entertainment shows. Some are better than others, and we've noticed quite a bit of change over the years. A lot depends on the company that supplies the entertainers and at what price (dictates the quality and experience of the cast). Some of the castmembers are new to the group, depending on the timing of them joining the ship, but they all seemed to blend very well. There was also a magician on board for a couple of shows. Generally we were either to tired to attend (most of the shows start at 10pm), or were still at dinner. Felt no obligation whatsoever to hustle just to go to a show. The only hustle we did was for shore excursions (of which we did three). We played team trivia most days, it is generally fun, sometimes a bit cutthroat (all for a bookmark or logo bottle opener). There was non-cast entertainment frequently: a piano player in La Dolce Vita (the bar), also a guitarist-vocalist), the Silver Muse Trio, a disco, and a duo in various places, and at SilverNote, a supper club-type of music entertainment. There were the other usual activities, like bridge, basic language instruction, coffee chats, etc. There were religious services on board, Sunday "church", Friday Jewish Sabbath, Hanukkah, and the grand staircase railings were decked out in Christmas decorations (hard to hold onto a railing in that case-->dangerous!). Sometimes clergy are aboard, depending on the type of religious activity. OVERALL SERVICE: Great throughout the ship. Earliest bar to open was pool at 9am. Prior to that you could get coffee at breakfast or via room service. The only coffee venue open earlier was the Arts Cafe: 6am or so, with coffee and snacks, but a very small place with not enough room, and hard to find a seat. In contrast to some of the other ships, the "observation" lounge doubles as a library, no early coffee service, but regular bar and hors d'oeuvres in the evenings. Generally there are plenty of places to find a beverage (leaded or unleaded), and of course, there's always in your suite. The maitre d's especially and many of the waitstaff go to great lengths to remember you, and that's an awesome plus. Everybody was kind and willing to go the extra mile, with one exception: my wife was "scolded" by a castmember (seriously!!!) for what was a perceived cutting of the line at immigration inspection, even though she was following the immigration officer who told a bunch of us to follow him when a new immigration passport inspection table opened. That was demeaning. Doesn't matter that she was wearing an ill-fitting black dress. Truthfully, I'm going to follow the guy with a uniform, ICE or CBP badge and a Glock). She reported it to reception, but received no apology for something that should not have happened. BIG MINUS!! PORTS and SHORE EXCURSIONS: Good choice of ports, although for great beach activities, not enough time was spent at the good beach ports, and more time was spent at shopping ports, even though Bonaire shops were mostly closed because of it being a Sunday. We zip-lined on St. Lucia (for the third time), beached it at Caya Levantado (Samana, Dom. Rep.), catamaran sail-snorkeled at Aruba, and were on our own at the terrific beach in Grand Turk, right at the end of the pier. There was also a cluster of good shops and a Margaritavile right there (it's called staggering back to the ship after the beach and Margaritaville, taking a long nap). There were scuba excursions offered, moreso than in the past (for awhile there were no scuba excursions offered, but "the times they are a changin' "). Although we are divers, we have elected to go on our own in the past, and there was a hefty price difference between some of the ports, not sure why. $249 for a two-tank dive at the Dominican Republic??? Caya Levantado had a great beach, although there were comb jellyfish in the water, which give off a bit of a sting, just a bit, though. The beach break had been advertised as beach barbecue with open bar, and greeting by native dancers. No dancers, barbecue nothing great and sometimes inedible, and bar was a cash bar. So somebody had difficulty with communication. Thank goodness for the beach and its attendants, as well as the water, even with the jellies. There were a couple of small children on the ship, a 3-year old and a five-year old (we think those were their ages), different families and both extremely well behaved. That's in contrast to some of the adult passengers. Our son, although chafed at the dress code, actually enjoyed the cruise a lot. His work uniform is a pair of cargo-shorts, steel-toed boots, a t-shirt, a tool-belt and a protective helmet (professional stagehand for concerts, trade shows and conventions). We would definitely go again, and actually have three more Silversea cruises booked. Shadow, Cloud Explorer, Whisper. We've sailed the Whisper the most, with Spirit in second place, but since the Spirit is going to be enlarged, we think it will be too big and crowded for us, having been spoiled by the smaller ships, including the four originals. But for a good feeling of intimacy and dine-where-and-when-you-want, this is the line. Read Less

We chose the Fall Colors cruise because we hadn't been in Eastern Canada or a lot of the East Coast much. We really enjoyed our time on the ship; the crew and the service is really good. The food on this cruise didn't quite stand up to the food we had on a previous Mediterranean cruise, but was very good. The quality of the ship, cleanliness, shows, entertainment and cabins is really excellent. The passengers on this cruise were so friendly and our time on board especially joining Trivia each day was so fun and challenging. The Cruise Director, Vickie Van Tassel and her team were just amazing in their effort, energy and talent. The "Voices of Silversea" were exceptional and we went to the shows every night. There was also a night where we joined in a "Liars Event/show" that was so entertaining, a great laugh for everyone. All in all, a great cruise and I miss the ship already! We will definitely cruise with Silversea again. Read Less

Embarkation and disembarkation went easily. Ship was smaller than what we sailed in the past but better since we got to know just about everyone working on the ship. Expected the cabin to be more elegant although the bathroom was big and the bed comfortable it was still a little tight and a bit dated. TV was terrible and barely visible from the bed. Food was great and service was mostly good except for breakfast in the restaurant which was inexcusably poor. Difficult to get a good strong cup of coffee. Loved the afternoon tea. Entertainment was great and the entertainers fabulous. Fun activities every day. Our butler and cabin assistant were fantastic. Overall, all of the crew were helpful and cheerful. Ports were also fabulous but excursions were very disappointing. Staff did not seem to care when we had issues with our excursions. Not sure I would do Silver Seas again without checking other lines first. Read Less

Loved the itinary. Saw many places I never been before. Service was great. The quality of service is amazing. Staff knew our names quickly and everyone greeted us when we were walking around the ship. Entertainment was great. The quality of the singers was outstanding and the magician was top notch. Onboard activities were fun. Disliked the need to make reservations for every meal. Prefer open dining to meet people. Also menus did not change and became boring after 16 days on the ship. The quality of good was very good with the exception of one entree which was Luke warm when served. The variety of shore excursions was extensive and expensive. Preferred just walking around the villages as they were charming. The itinary was great. I have sailed Asilversea wide before and it is my favorite cruise line. It is good value for the money and provided a wonderful experience and way to travel. Read Less

This was our 26th Silversea Cruise, over 300 days, first time on the Muse. Since it was the Muse's maiden crossing, we considered it part of the "shakedown" process. Spent two nights in Southampton before sailing. Chilly, windy, rainy. Found a good pub/restaurant, the Duke of Wellington, best fishn'n'chips I've had. Visited Stonehenge, but it was very crowded, windy and rainy, so elected to go to the ubiquitous gift shop. Plus, admission is up there in price. Boarding was easy on sailing day. Since suites were not available until 2pm, we were able to have lunch in Atlantide or Terrazza. There were a couple of friends on board whom we had met on an earlier cruise, so that helped pass the time. Found our Silver suite easily, two of 3 suitcases arrived quickly, and we had a sense of how to unpack, i.e. whose stuff went where, etc. It seemed that there were fewer drawers in the closet area. more shelves. The entire suite was larger than on the Spirit, but seemed to have less drawer space. It will be interesting figuring out where a third person's stuff is going to go, since we will be on the Muse again in December, with one of our sons accompanying...he gets the couch. Suite bathroom was adequate. Loved the large shower. "Rainfall" shower head was stationary, i.e. we couldn't position it to direct the water flow. First two nights was difficult getting hot water, took a long time to get it even warm, if at all. After that there was plenty of hot. The shower leaked water under the shower door frame if the movement of the ship made the water in the pan flow away from the drain. That got fixed quickly, the gaps beneath the shower door frame were sealed. I had an iPod with me, so playing our own music on the Bose player in the suite was easy. The rest was as expected; we would have liked to use the verandah more, but the weather was not conducive, except for a day or two in Canadian/St. Pierre waters. The ship color scheme is lighter than on the Spirit, including the carpeting. The carpeting could be problematic in that it will show stains more easily. Plus, it was starting to "pill" in our suite, and it looked like a couple of seams were about to give way. The lighter colors give more of a sense of spaciousness. We felt there was an overabundance of plastic, not a lot of wood trim. Dining: food was overall excellent, service inconsistent at times (almost seemed like we were forgotten, depending on the restaurant). Bar service was the usual. We were victims of the restaurant-dictated dress code (which I understand is reverting back to a ship-wide dress code: much better!). Atlantide was formal, as was La Dame. The rest of the restaurants' attire were informal or casual. Quite a mix of attire in the evenings. We did see some shorts in the evening as well. Not many tuxes in Atlantide that we could see, although I had my own, La Dame seemed more formal than Atlantide, as did the service. Spaccanapoli (pizza restaurant) had very good pizza. You could get a "custom-made" one, there were lots of ingredients. The pool grille at lunch was overall so-so. The Reuben sandwich on the menu was undercooked and not all that tasty OR attractive: the cheese wasn't even melted, even after I sent mine back. Hot Rocks, which we usually visited on embarkation night, was good, more menu selections. But cold and rainy, and no infrared heaters (luckily they provided blankets, but still....). We went to Silver Note once. The menu was confusing, service spotty. Entertainment so-so. One night we had a "campfire" dinner with our friends in our suite. Dinner order was confined to the room service menu, which was adequate, but not what any of us expected. On other ships, dinner is available in your suite course by course via the main restaurant menu, but not so on Muse, since there was no main restaurant. The forward observation lounge on Deck 11 was underused most of the time. No coffee in the morning, had to go to the Arts Cafe on deck 8 for coffee and snacks. Woefully inadequate seating for as popular a place as it was, but what to expect when the Arts Cafe was the only place to get a coffee before 9 am, when the pool bar opened (but just the bar, no food)? Speaking of the bar, the main "bar" is the Dolce Vita, very spacious, large enough for a lot of passengers. Bar service at times seemed non-existent. If you weren't in the bar-staff's line of sight, you got passed over. We did not attend any of the musical shows (usually were too late from dinner). The magician was good, and we got a lot out of the enrichment lectures about ocean liners, the development of the cruise industry, and cruising now and in the future. Didn't attend any of the port talks, but they were available on TV. Seating in the the show lounge was not comfortable. The couches were fine; you had to share the drink table with the people in the single chairs in front of you, IF they were willing to share. The single chairs were narrow and hard. Ports: First one out of Southampton was Falmouth. We did a shore excursion, "Coastal Trek and Pub Lunch". It was about a 4-mile walk on a mostly narrow up-and-down trail, somewhat treacherous from the rain. Even in dry weather it would be treacherous. A lot was along a cliff: if you fell over the side, onto the ricks and into the water you'd go. Far longer and more strenuous than the description led us to believe. The pub was the Witch Ball. We had a separate eating area, seemed jammed in like sardines. Not enough "loo" space. Women were using the gents'. If you were a fitbit user, this trek (and it truly was a trek) gave you plenty of steps. Overall pricey. We didn't go ashore at the Ireland ports. At St.John's, Newfoundland, we went on our own, walked to the Castle Hill area. At St. Pierre we were tied up at the pier...EZ off and on. Caught the shuttle bus from the ship to the "downtown". Colorful buildings, vibrant streets (from kids and traffic). We did plenty of walking around town, two of us walked back to the ship. Very picturesque. We did another shore excursion at Sydney, Nova Scotia: Cape Breton fiddle concert. Was really fun. We even square danced. Then went to a little place for lunch "in town". My wife had poutine, just for once, and I had pizza...which was much better than the poutine. Charlottetown, PEI was the best as far as we were concerned. Weather was gorgeous, there was a farmers' market in town, there were plenty of shops to visit and restaurants serving mussels and other seafood. And good beer. Great walk. We had to skip Gaspe because of speed restrictions on ships due to right whale migration. We didn't see any right whales, probably not being in the right place at the right time. We were also canceled out of a Gaspe shore excursion, a walk through a forest. After our Falmouth experience, we weren't too disappointed. So we spent an extra day "at sea" on the way to Saguenay, PQ. Sailed into the St. Lawrence and up the Saguenay River. Very scenic. Big problem, however, was that the river guide's narration was only able to be heard in the hallways and some of the public rooms and on the decks. Not on the verandahs, as advertised. So we really didn't get much more out of it than seeing the land go by. Luckily the weather was good enough that we could venture out onto the (quiet) verandah from time to time. Saguenay had the best pierside tourist greeting service we have ever seen. Most everyone was bilingual and we were indeed warmly greeted as we got off the ship. We did a little "hike" of our own on some of the city streets. Since the tide was out, we were able to get down to the beach by the pier easily. The pedestrian area on both sides of the pier was more like an esplanade. At Quebec City, we had a private tour that was pre-arranged. Learned a lot, saw a lot. Would recommend. Read Less

As longtime cruisers, we were excited to check out the Silver Muse. What could be better than a brand new ship? We were not disappointed. The ship itself is stellar--beautiful public space, smartly designed outdoor space, perfectly appointed cabins, great decor, etc. Because we were proactive in planning our dining way in advance, the "no main dining room" and "reservations required" policy was not really an issue for us. That said, we were shut out of the Silver Note completely (despite trying to make a reservation 120 days ahead!) and encountered many other guests who had to resort to room service or pizza because they simply could not be accommodated ANYWHERE! This is unacceptable in any scenario, but at this price point it's just flat out wrong. The upcharge is La Dame and Indochine is also offensive; the latter being really not worth it. It would have been nice to have had an "expert" on board to explain the ports in advance. The tour desk was not particularly knowledgeable or helpful with information about next stops. Additionally, how about interactive maps on the TV? We often joked with our fellow passengers, "where the heck are we?" Entertainment is "meh" at best--heavy on classical music and other stuffier options. A comedian/magician/mentalist would have been fun. Service was wonderful and well meaning. The concept of a butler, to me, is silly and outdated. As most people know Silversea (aka Silverhair) caters to an older demographic. My husband and I are "young" 58-year olds and we were BY FAR the youngest people on the ship. Read Less

We recently sailed on Silver Muse from Rome to Venice, for 12 nights. This was our first “real” Silversea cruise (we had previously been on an expedition cruise with them to the Galapagos and loved it). Overall, we enjoyed our experience but there were high points and low points. Let me start with the high points. The ship itself is beautiful. We had a Superior Verandah Suite on the ninth deck, and found it to be extremely spacious and well appointed. Our butler, Anand, and our Suite Attendant, Juvei, both went above and beyond to make our journey an extremely pleasant one! They anticipated our needs before we did, and quickly got used to our preferences in terms of how to make the bed, etc. The only issue with our room was that the walls seemed to be paper-thin. We could hear our neighbors’ conversations as if they were sitting right beside us. We could also hear their TV, as if we were watching it. I’ve been on other, older ships (e.g. Wind Star) where the rooms were perfectly silent. I guess this must an engineering flaw. Likewise, the public areas of the ship were beautifully decorated and exceeded our expectations. We enjoyed the Panorama Lounge as well as Dolce Vita the most. We enjoyed our dinners as well and dined at all restaurants. I was clever enough to have made reservations only many months in advance, as many of the smaller restaurants were booked weeks before our departure. Many people were not very pleased with this dining arrangement, but it suited us just fine. Our favorites included Kaiseki, Atlantide, Silver Note, The Grill and Indochine. We also enjoyed pizza at Spaccanapoli, even as a late afternoon snack. Our least favorite was La Terrazza; while the food was delicious (particularly at dinner), the service fell short. Our water was seldom refilled and we had to ask for more water nearly every time we dined there (breakfast, lunch and dinner). In addition, while the pasta served during dinner was superb, I received cold and overcooked pasta during the lunch buffet (from a hot cooking station). For an Italian cruise line, this should be embarrassing. Likewise, La Dame felt short of our expectations. Again, the food was delicious, but in regards to service, it was excellent at first, but when the restaurant grew crowded, we felt ignored. Our wine was not refilled and we had to ask for more. This is not something I would expect from a Relais & Châteaux restaurant, especially one that requires a supplementary surcharge. Giulia, our server at La Dame, however, was a gem; she was excellent and we cannot praise her enough! As for other meals, our first few days we ate breakfast at La Terrazza, which was disappointing in terms of service (as I mentioned above). The food was adequate. We also enjoyed breakfast on our verandah, always delivered exactly on time (as we requested) by our amazing butler. Where we were most disappointed (common to both La Terrazza and in-suite dining) was cooking of eggs. We like soft-boiled eggs, and each and every time we ordered them, they were either overcooked or undercooked. By the standards of Silversea, this small but important detail was very disappointing. Cooking an egg isn’t rocket science! We later discovered breakfast at Atlantide, and I think this turned out to be our favorite. For lunch, we enjoyed Kaiseki the most - the sushi and sashimi prepared by Chef Laurence rivaled that, which we once enjoyed in Japan! We had lunch one time at Atlantide and it was also delicious; we wish we had discovered it sooner. La Terrazza, again, was disappointing. The crew of Silver Muse was for the most part amazing! Almost all crew members were always enthusiastic and did their best to accommodate us. We have become close will many of them. We would especially like to mention Radek, Monica, Nicholas, Joyce, Faye, Fe, Sheiba, Moses, Stallon, Jameer, Giulia (who I already mentioned), San, Jinji, Putu (both of them), Ketut, Gaudi, Rakesh, Sybila, Diana and Mohamed. There are a couple more whose names we could not recall, but as a whole, we were very, very impressed by the crew! We thoroughly enjoyed all the performances by the six members of the Voices of Silversea. Each show was professionally prepared and appropriately timed. We could not be happier with the entertainment they provided. The same goes for DJ Bart, who provided great music during the day, afternoon and evening. Perhaps there was a tad too much Latin music, if I’m being really picky. As for areas of improvement: the pool deck was a nice place to relax after a tiring shore excursion (or after a day of sleeping in!). However, by the early afternoon there were not enough crew members and we had to walk over to the bar to order drinks. For us, this was not a huge inconvenience, but again, Silversea promises upmost luxury, and fell short in this regard. Also, there were no umbrellas on the deck (as on Wind Star) to provide shade, but I suspect this is due to some rule or regulations for a ship of this size. Our first cruise with Silversea was an expedition trip to the Galapagos. I have to say, we both preferred that style of cruising. While we like to dress up, I felt that having to wear a jacket almost every night for dinner to be excessive. When on vacation, I like to feel relaxed and not “stuffy.” I understand that this is a personal preference of ours, and in no way impacted our overall rating of this cruise. In fact, while onboard, we booked an expedition cruise on Silver Cloud to Antarctica! Finally, I would like to commend the captain, staff and crew for the occurrence during a strong storm. We were dining at Silver Note when we felt the ship tip too much. Apparently, the winds were extremely strong and were pushing the ship sideways. We remained calm but were slightly fearful. The captain handled the incident perfectly, quickly changing course into the wind. It’s such a shame that there was so much damage (broken wine bottles, glasses, even an entire wine fridge!), but at least everyone was safe. Additionally, we commend Radek for his calm handling of this scary situation! We’ve never experienced anything like it, and hope that we never do again! We were quite disappointed during disembarkation. While we waited to leave the ship, there was nothing available: no water, coffee, tea, anything. On our prior cruises (Silver Galapagos and Wind Star), there was always plenty of bottled water available and coffee and tea stations were set up for guests to help themselves. Aboard Silver Muse – nothing. One of the crew members who we befriended ran to her cabin to bring us two bottles of water! The disembarkation procedure could for sure be improved. Overall, we very much enjoyed this cruise, especially the ship itself and its crew. Sure, there are a few imperfections to work out, but we will definitely be sailing with Silversea again! We would for sure sail aboard Silver Muse, but have found expedition trips to best suit our interests. Read Less

We have over 120 days sailing on Silversea ships because we like the amazing food, fabulous service, terrific excursions, attention to requested details, the choice of wines & champagnes available at no extra charge & the delightful Verandah suites with Butler service, separate showers & tubs & over all luxuriousness that Silversea has to offer. However, this is our first cruise on the Silver Shadow, twin to the Silver Whisper, & sadly, she is really beginning to look shabby. I know the ship went in for a re-fit one year ago, but just replacing the carpet in the suites & re-doing the restaurants & the public lounges is not enough!!!!! The beautiful honey colored woods in the suites are scuffed & looking old & poorly maintained with some burn marks(no smoking allowed)& the new carpeting was put down so badly that it is coming up already around the wooden fixed furniture and there are tear marks that have been repaired very sloppily. I wish I could tell you how disappointed we are after having done a one week Alaskan cruise on this ship. We have 2 more cruises booked on the Silver Whisper, which I know will be in better shape because the World Cruise is on that ship in 2018, but all the ships should be up to the same standard of excellence that we have gotten used to with Silversea, not just the newer ones or the bigger ones!!!!! The entertainment, whenever they put on a production, was good, but the productions were too few and far between & on July 4th, in an American port, with mostly American passengers, the ship did nothing to celebrate our Independence Day. Without American passengers, no cruise line could survive, but to ignore July 4th completely, was insulting!!!!! The ports in Alaska are very small & filled with tourist shops & Diamond/Tanzanite jewelry stores, just like you find all over the Caribbean. Very disappointing, but not Silversea's fault. The excursions were very well done & fun & very interesting with lots of history & fabulous scenery, but that is all. The museum in Anchorage was wonderful to see and tour, but had I not been told about it beforehand, I never would have known that it existed. As to the glassed domed train ride from Anchorage to Seward------FORGET IT!!!!! It is crowded, uncomfortable, the food is worse than awful & it took 6 hours to go 125 miles, when we could have had a choice to go in a luxury motor coach for 2 1/2 hrs & reach the ship by 2-3p.m. instead of 6:15p.m.--totally outrageous!!!!! We were first time cruisers and chose Silversea based on the recomendation of a friend who was an avid cruiser. Prior to the cruise, we did some research and therefore knew that Silver Muse was the newest addition to Silversea and also its largest capacity ship. Overall, the experience was great! We particularly liked the sense of space on the ship - it never felt crowded. The service, especially our butler Rahul, was overall excellent. He took care of our needs, including changing a restaurant reservation for us, making sure we had our requested snacks to take on our excursions, and took care of some concerns we had with the room. This excellent service extended to most of the wait staff that we met. We had a few favourite waiters with whom we had some interesting conversations. We loved the layout and space in the cabin, and the balcony. There were just two issues. One, in common with many other comments we found in the forums, is that the soundproofing in the room needs to be improved. We found that even with our TV on normal volume, it could be heard in the next room and it was disturbing our neighbors especially late at night. Another issue was the difficulty in adjusting the water temperature in the shower and keeping it constant. After complaining to our butler, it was fixed to a large extent although it was still occasionally inconsistent. It was a minor annoyance. We loved that there was a jogging track on Deck 11, and we also liked the fitness centre which we felt was appropriately sized and equipped. Overall, the food quality was excellent. We liked the choices at breakfast at La Terazza. As we usually had an early excursion, we chose to have the quicker option of eating at La Terazza or pre-ordering breakfast to be delivered to our room. It was great to go out for a jog and then to the gym then return to the room to find breakfast ready! We knew about the reservation system for dinner and we pre-booked all our dinners online before the cruise. We have read many adverse comments about the lack of open seating for dinner at a main dining room, and the need to pre-book and therefore you could not easily get together with new friends for dinner. We can see why that can be a problem, although we were happy with the reservation system generally. After cooking our own food at Hot Rocks, we decided that we did not fancy the food and ask our butler Rahul to help change a second reservation at Hot Rocks to our favourite Italian restaurant La Terazza which was done. We also did not feel that the Japanese restaurant Kaiseki was to our expected standard. Otherwise, the other restaurants Atlantide, Silver Notes and La Dame were of a high standard. We also loved the pizza at Spaccanoli - and it was our go to place for a late afternoon bite. Overall, we were happy with the dining experience and service, but can see why some cruisers were not happy that there was not a main dining room concept. Given the level of unhappiness, we would not be surprised if there are some changes to Silver Muse dining in the near future. We took many of the shore excursions with Silversea. Generally, we felt the travel agents chosen by Silversea were of a high standard. Overall, we are very happy with our first cruise with Silversea and will go with them again. We may try one of their smaller ships to see if it is a different experience, but in the end, an interesting itinerary is the most important. Our Rome to Venice cruise taking in parts of Sicily, Malta, Greece, Montenegro, Croatia, Slovenia and of course beautiful Venice with many interesting places we had never been to have converted us reluctant first time cruisers to believers in the concept. The food was excellent and so was the service. The pool was closed 2 days do to filter issues and the excersiize facility was too small. Two of the 4 machines were out of order! Not very appealing for a choice for a second cruise! I felt I was overcharged and underdelivered on my cruise package!!! I am a Colonel in a Bourbon Society in SC and the 2 Bourbon selection Jim Beam and Makers Mark were very poor A 2 star Bourbon for a 5 star cruise! You need Blantons and Woodford Reserve at a minimum! Wake up and smell the roses....we did meet 2 nice couples on board and the Artwork was excellent. You did not offer photos as a souvenir or an art show or auction.. Read Less

The itinerary was fun and the host cities – especially Killybegs and Greenock welcomed us warmly even if the weather didn’t always cooperate. Most important, the many employees that together made the cruise a great experience are the single biggest reason for Silversea success. Enthusiastic and eager to make their guests comfortable and feel welcome. That said, Silver Wind is looking tired and many of the amenities that are expected for a luxury experience are lacking. The in-room entertainment system is antiquated and not functional. When you want to escape and relax in your room, the old TV with limited features does not enhance your experience. It is one of the least attractive features on the ship. The cabin was spacious and the bathroom included a tub and shower - very good. Unfortunately, there was a lingering odor due to a poor ventilation system. You get the idea. Read Less

We started out with a horrible pre-cruise experience. We booked directly with Silversea's "Cruise Specialist" and after submitting our passport information, including expiration dates, and having it accepted by Silversea, we received all documents and got to the airport, where they refused my husband boarding because his passport expired in two months. We had to spend 2 nights in Philadelphia waiting for the passport office to open before we could get on the plane and received no call backs or help whatsoever from Silversea, even though we followed their emergency directions. It is in the fine print that a passport should be valid for 6 months after return, but my husband had just returned from Asia, who has the same caveats, with no problem. So, we missed the first two nights of our vacation in Greece & got to spend them stressed out in Philadelphia with no baggage, as it had gone on to Athens, and no assistance form Silversea, instead. Not a great way to start a vacation. Upon arrival in Athens - Car & driver waiting with car that was too small, but still a good transfer to Piraeus. Boarded the ship - it's pretty, but bland - not very warm and I'm not a big fan of the art, as I am of the Silver Spirit's or the ships. Ugly carpet through. Cabins are beautiful, with one exception - there is no longer a vanity, so make-up, etc. has to be done in the bathroom, which is annoying. Staff were absolutely wonderful - We were diverted from Dikilii to Izmir, which was an awful port. Kusadasi is always nice, but Marmaris so so, Santorini has gotten so overcrowded it's sad, Patmos was wonderful, Kotor fabulous as always, Dubrovnik always great, Hvar was probably our favorite, Koper has a cute little old town, but we grabbed a taxi to Piran, a seaside resort, which was beautiful. Breakfast always good in LA Terrazza. Had it one morning in Atlantide & it took 2 hours, so we gave up & stuck with La Terrraza. Rarely had lunch on board, but the Grill was ok, not great. La Terrazza dinners were good; Silver Note really not great food - too much going on, although the entertainment was fabulous; Kaiseiki was fun and worth the uncharge; La Dame was a let-down after many great Le Champagne meals - undercooked lobster, but good service; Indochine was awful - dried out dim sum, chicken coconut soup that didn't take or look like any I'd every seen before, naan looked & tasted like burnt tortilla slices, just not good; Hot Rocks always good; Atlantide I enjoyed, but husbands fish was not good - excellent service though. Pizzeria ok. Wish they could get fresh fish on board, as the frozen is always disappointing. Missed not having afternoon teas and the Arts Cafe' was a cold souless room and not a great substitute. Our biggest complaint was no main dining room - is it a pain and very stressful to have to make reservations every night. We missed being able to go into the Main Dining Room at any time with any size group and have a broad selection of food choices, all served beautifully & that is probably the reason I won't steer towards the Silver Muse again. Dining was a pain and the food wasn't all that great. The pool area is fantastic - loved the new L-shaped sofas for those of us that don't want too much sun. Only had one massage from Adena, but it was probably one of the best I've ever had - she was wonderful!! Work-out facilities nice. Reception, main lobby and bar are huge and no one ever in them - I would suggest using 2/3s of this as a main dining room. We had a wonderful cruise once we finally got there, but don't think we will choose the Silver Muse or book directly with Silversea ever again. Read Less

We have sailed Silversea's before and switched to Crystal. Decided to try the Silver Spirit since we had not sailed her before. The ship is beautiful and the service from all crew members was excellent. However, we missed a few things that we enjoyed on prior Silversea voyages. There was no Galley Brunch, no live music on the pool deck, and not much fanfare as we left ports. Also, there used to be two shows in the evening. Now, the only show starts around 9:45 PM. For early diners, the gap is too long and there is very little to do while waiting for the show. The Supper Club concept sounded fascinating and romantic but was a huge disappointment. The food was not good, the room was half empty and the "Supper Club" ambience was lacking. Seishin had sushi on the menu but was actually a variety of pre-made rolls that were very heavy on rice and skimpy on fish. After Silk Road on Crystal, this was another huge disappointment for sushi fans. Champagne lived up to its hype. Great food and excellent service. A truly special dining experience. Overall, we enjoyed the cruise and will likely continue sailing with Silversea, but it isn't quite as special as it was 10 years ago. PS: The wi-fi is rediculously frustrating. At these rates, everyone should have wi-fi 24/7 anywhere on board. Read Less

Food and facilities were generally excellent. Terraza was a bit hit and miss - excellent the first time and not so good the second time. Sushi Restaurant was great - first timer for sushi and I loved it.. Stars Supper Club has the potential to be excellent (great music and ambiance) but food wasn't quite up to scratch. Stars has a tapas/small plate menu, so each morsel has to be perfect and they really weren't. The Grill has excellent steak and shrimp. The main Restaurant was great every night. Wine selections could not have been better - if we didn't like the daily selection we asked for others and got them at no extra charge. Service was excellent in some areas but not so good in others. Passengers want personal service from crew and now that they have to use iPads in the dining areas for food orders the personal service and interaction has been removed. I think the iPads affected the level of service. Use the iPads away from the customer - After you have taken the order. Read Less

My wife and I were excited to try the newest ship in the fleet. Overall a very solid experience, however there are a few changes that are unwelcome. Pluses: Excellent internet speed. We purchased the full cruise high speed package, and never had an issue with speed or connectivity. We used it for both work emails and daily posts to Facebook with pictures and commentary on our fantastic experiences. We truly enjoyed the shore excursions, more than we had on previous Silversea cruises (we have become "Silversea only" cruisers since 2004, and this was our fifth). While our meals in La Terrazza and La Dame were consistently excellent, we found Atlantide to be just "good". We miss the open seating policy of the Restaurant. Every night required reservations, however the maitre'd in both La Terraza and Atlantide were always able to get us in where we wanted. We would skip Seishin and Indochine next time, and focus only on La Terraza, Hot Rocks, Atlantide and La Dame. The spa was not fully ready for us, as the lockers lacked hangers so our clothes ended up piled on the bottom. A good massage though. While we prefer the other ships and their open seating in The Restaurant, the overall execution of the new ship is excellent. Shows were well done, and seating very comfortable. We enjoyed the art work as well. As a bonus, we met a lovely couple from Shropshire, England with whom we plan to travel again. Silversea passengers are wonderful overall. Read Less

The cruise through the Caribbean Islands was lovely. Be aware the ship is quite small and book a mid ship cabin as to make sure there are not any rough days. We sailed from San Juan to Ft. Lauderdale with stops at many of the islands. The excursions were great with easy on and off the ship. The service was fantastic! Having a butler for your cabin is very nice and be sure to have a balcony. The food was very good. Gratuities were included, but we added to some of the staff that went over and beyond. The only things that were not fantastic was the entertainment, which was very limited and the casino, very, very small and nobody ever there. Definitely for an older more sophisticated group...but we had a great time. This is definitely not a cruise for children. I would suggest a Royal Caribbean ship with all the activities if you are bringing children. We will probably take another Silver Seas cruise, but on a larger ship. March was a great time to take this cruise. The weather was fantastic. Be sure to make reservations prior to boarding for spa treatments, beauty salon and excursions. They do fill up. We did spend a night in San Juan prior to boarding at The Condado Vanderbilt. Highly recommended! Dinner at 1919 was spectacular and not too far from the pier. Have a wonderful time! You will not be disappointed! We enjoyed every minute and met some new friends! Read Less

We love to cruise with Silversea, so far I only cruised on Silver Spirit, my partner has been on Whisper before. As soon as we embark is like being back home. Loved the ship, maybe just a bit 2 small for me & missed some of the extras available on the Spirit. Amazing suite good size, always clean by super friendly staff. The pool area very relaxing. The restaurant staff were amazing, we were just a bit disappointed with the cuisine & chef of the main restaurant the menu choices didn't vary much, veal & salmon were nearly always on the menu. The the staff in the restaraunt always looked after us, good wine selection & also to mention that Silversea doesn't force to seat with other people, every night we got a table for 2 but we previously also booked every evening. The speciality restaurant were very good, Le Champagne bring outstanding. The entertainment was not good, the shows were very disappointing. The only show were enjoyed was the show by the Cruise Director Vicky, apart from being an amazing Cruise Director she truly is a stunning performer, her 1 woman show was raw full of emotion & one of the highlights of our cruise. The ship staff was not that good at keeping track of passengers or helping those with mobility issues on the excursions. The food was good although I was expecting the quality to be higher. Service at the restaurants was generally good (not exceptional) but inconsistent. The cabin service was good. Cabins were spotless. The butler service was inconsistent. One room the butler was very good, the other adequate. All in all an enjoyable cruise. Read Less

This was our first cruise so we wanted to do it right. We picked Silversea because of friends' recommendations and extensive review of our options for a Mediterranean cruise. On balance our choice was perfect. The ship was immaculate, the crew was pleasant beginning with Colin who greeted us on arrival, and lasting with our Butler, Chan. The rest of the staff was equally friendly and accommodating. We scheduled tours for every morning and although (in retrospect) probably one or two too many; it got us up and out to see the sights. The tours where well run and limited in size so you never felt like a herd of cattle. I'd say do them all if it's your first time. The food was ok -- we ate in all of the restaurants ( Le Champagne once and the Restaurant once) -- our favorite was La Terrazza on the aft deck. I say ok because after 10 days not a lot of variety. I recommend one night for Le Champagne -- small, elegant and good food. By the way the only restaurant on the ship that has a cover charge($80). Our room was a 804 -- one of 4 new rooms added on deck 8 (the only 4 on deck 8) and within 75 feet of the pool bar/restaurant. The room was Medallion level so it substantially larger with a double deck, sitting room, spacious walkin closet, and large bathroom. The furniture was nice and well placed. The BAD news -- they built these four rooms below Deck 9 which houses the SPA. Our room was directly under the weight room and we were reminded every time a person dropped a weight on floor above or our ceiling. Suffice to say, we could not get it to stop. Response from Siversea has been nonexistent. SO DO NOT reserve room# 804 should you choose the Silver Wind -- maybe the other three fine, but I can't speak for them. Would we do it again -- certainly and Silversea would be our first consideration. Read Less

We did the Baltic and on to Southampton on Whisper and enjoyed our first experience with Silversea, although the food was all very Italian based, which can become tiresome. We found Seabourn to have a greater selection on their menus and wines were also a little better class. Having also completed over 70 days cruising with Seabourn the comparison was interesting to say the least. Port excursions are expensive on any 6 star vessel and we were introduced to private tours, by meeting fellow passengers on line prior to departure through Cruise Critic. We enjoyed smaller tours groups and very informative Guides through TJ Tours in St Petersburg. The butler surprised us by unpacking our suitcases which we didn't have done with Seabourn. Entertainment was a little better on Seabourn, but with a number of days on (some staff do 4 to 6 months on without a break) i can understand that doing the same routine over and over can become a strain. The suites on ships are very similar and the service of a very good standard, with Seabourn just pipping Silversea in this regards. Eating on deck was definitely the best meal with the steak and prawns the highlight )one of the best cooked steaks i have ever had, and the prawns were huge. Found that there was not a lot of action after the show finished around 10 or 11 at night. Overall i would class Seabourn a little ahead at this point, but still a very enjoyable cruise Read Less
