Celebrating a birthday and an anniversary. We knew that Silversea would enable a trouble free voyage. Our Butler and Maid decorated our suite for the birthday/anniversary celbration with clever towel art and balloons. Our fridge was constantly restocked with our favorite beverages. Our every need was cared for (including some seasickness tablets on the occasion that they were needed. The food was simply amazing with the specialty restaurant La Dame serving on eof the best meals we have ever enjoyed. While we did not take part in the entertainment at night (being early to bed folks) we did enjoy the lectures. And the Bingo. And the Trivia contests. The dining options enabled us to enjoy what we wanted when we wanted it. And when the (free) WiFi went out on deck 4 and 5 we were presented with a $300 credit. A really fine gesture for a porblem that was not foreseeable. What can I say? It is Silversea.. Read Less

My wife and I like small ships rather than the large cruise ships because they are more intimate and feature the ports of call as the selling point versus the large floating hotel concept. We also focus on which ports the cruise will call on rather than the time of year or size of boat. This cruise was the second time on Silver Whisper, a Baltic Sea cruise being the first time. On this cruise we liked its origination port of Monte Carlo and conclusion in Lisbon. Portugal is a very interesting country to visit and we will go back. We also thought most of the ports would be very interesting, or provide access to exceptional Spanish cities. As we found out, Malaga and Cadiz allowed us to visit Granada and Seville, both the gems of Andalusia. Most of the tours were very good although on whole we thought Seabourn's tours are better. One tour to Granada was wait listed so we opted to use our travel agent to set up a private tour. Otherwise the ship's tours of Seville and Barcelona were excellent! Once you come back for a second cruise you become a member in their Venetian Society, and they hosted a remarkable excursion one evening in Barcelona that was very good! We normally try to book the larger Silver Suites which are similar in configuration to the Seabourn suites. Our suite, however, was better than the Seabourn suites by being wider and more spacious. We especially like their hot rock feature on the Pool deck, which we enjoy immensely! The October time frame was nice from a temperature perspective, but the captain skipped two ports due to high winds/seas so there is a trade off for booking at end of the season. Crew was very nice and the butler element is a nice touch not present on Seabourn. On previous trip in Baltic Sea we hit all of the restaurants, but this time, due to the presence of a wine tour group, most of the evenings were already booked. As such we were unable to compare with previous dining experience. We generally do not go to the Restaurant on deck 4. All in all a cruise that was very memorable! Read Less

We sailed on this ship because of the itinerary and because we had sailed on the Silver Whisper 9 years ago -- that time the ship was exceptional and we have wonderful memories of that cruise. The ship is now showing its age and needs a complete makeover - - not just a change of the carpet - - a complete makeover. It needs to be modernized both as to technology and aesthetics - - furniture and furnishings. Also, the engine room smell in the middle of the ship needs to be completely resolved! The crew and the service were the best part of our experience. The food in La Terrazza was very, very good, the food in the Restaurant was good, but not exceptional. Hot Rocks was okay - - a bit messy until the chefs cooked our meal for us. Our meal in La Dame was very disappointing - - who rolls Dover Sole? You're catering to people who have options and are blessed to experience some of the nicer things in life. Yes, we are on a cruise ship, but comparing the luxury you advertise to the luxury offered at some of the fine hotels (e.g., Four Seasons and small Relais Chateaux hotels), they are superior to you - - - you need to step up your game. We would not sail on the Silver Whisper again - - maybe a new Silver Sea ship but not a ship that is nearly 20 years old. Read Less

I've done silver seas cruise before and had a really good experience. The ports of calls are spectacular. We had to divert from Santorini which was the most anticipated port for us. This was a bummer but the captain decided to re-route to a different port and substitute rather than spend another day at sea. We ended up going to Corfu which was such a great experience and so beautiful. This was really nice. So everything worked out well and we still saw a lovely place. The staff were all so friendly and helpful with such amazing attitudes. They made it a point to remember us by name and great us like they knew us already--impressive. The cruise director was great. We loved the idea of being in a different port every day. Cruising over night and arriving the next morning. The schedule was great. I only have one query as I booked a private gondola ride in Venice. I got a call from the activities director I guess early that day saying that they had booked us on a shared ride 4 guests. He proceeded to tell me that it's the same as a private ride and really no big difference blah blah. So I went with it. At the activity we were with another 8 individuals. we ended up two boats of four and one couple had a private gondola ride with music serenade. We were sitting with the other couple staring at them the whole time and really being forced to have conversation...... This couple was also dealt the same hand and were not too happy about sharing a gondola. If I booked a private tour obviously I wanted this experience to be very special with just my wife on her first trip to Venice. That took away from that. We still enjoyed it but the intimacy was taken away from us. Read Less

Room as not huge but very serviceable. The balcony held two and made ample use of it for sleeping and reading. The fridge was stocked with water, beers and sodas. If I had wanted wine, they would have supplied. The closet was ample for two people, with drawers and hangers. The bathroom contained both a tub and shower and we could choose among several options which soaps and shampoos they would stock. My wife was impressed with the room and its amenities. The room included a vanity and mirror so she would apply make up if was using the shower, etc. We were on a wellness cruise so I used the fitness center which included weight machines, free weights, several elliptical and bikes. There were also saunas and steam rooms and changing rooms, as well as a pool and outside hot tub. The food was fantastic. We had in room breakfast every day and used their buffet lunches with dinners with our group at The Restaurant. The food and service was excellent. The staff was very well trained and apparently this ship is very well managed. Exceeded our expectations. Read Less

We decide to chose a top end cruise line having previously been many times with Princess, Royal Caribbean and Oceania. We were not disappointed but we were occasionally surprised. Silversea fellow travellers we found extremely loyal to the cruise line and were in many respects the best advocates for the company. In fact, we were telling people that we wanted to try Seabourn for a future cruis and most tried to talk us out of it! The loyalty is u deerstalker dabke given the consistently high level of service and willingness of staff to help. In restaurants, bar and pool area we enjoyed constant attention, with nothing being too much trouble for the crew. Silversea claim almost 1:1 crew passenger ratio and I had no reason to doubt that. It should however be noted that the ship was not full. On earlier reviews I read some complaints that service in restaurants was slow, we experienced none of that. Our cabin, at first 918, a Veranda (4) class cabin was spacious, well maintained and benefitted from excellent butler service. Unfortunately we detected that the air con system was under performing but it took us 3/4 days to convinc the staff that was the case. I won’t bore you with the details but when confronted with the evidence they then moved very quickly to change cabins which, given the ship was not full they could do. The move was entirely managed by the butler team amd was no hassle and worth It. It’s a shame it took few days to sort out, but sort it they did. We enjoyed good enrichment lectures and frankly met some fascinating people from many different parts of the world. What’s more the flexible management of the restaurants meant we could meet and dine with him different people whenever we wished. The restaurant staff were very flexible and accommodated us when we wanted, and wi5 whatever size group they’d were presented with. Full marks to them. Some areas of improvement would be to offer internet free, even if they up the package price. The one hour free service followed by high charges undermines the upmarket brand. Two of the five tours we didn’t were rubbish. The catermaran trip in the Whitsunday Islands amd the visit to the Coral reef HQ aquarium in Cairns we’re over priced and dull in our opinion. The gym is fine but not a lot of effort goes into the water aerobic sessions which were repetitive and not of a very high standard. The entertainment is at best average but good enough to sit and enjoy a cocktail with, but truthfully if you want great entertainment go elsewhere. Finally, the bar could do with brightening up, although the service isn’t again brilliant. How the bar team remember our particular drink is anyone’s guess. Be in no doubt though, we love our trip and will be back. Read Less

Even though we had a nice Silver Suite 728, there was loud banging in the middle of the night that woke me several times. I guess our suite was next to a noisy location. Small bed, they said it was a queen but it’s the smallest queen bed I’ve ever seen. Food was mediocre at best. I found plastic shards in my burger, that they had the nerve to call a Waygu Beef Burger. My last morning I ordered eggs Benedict, as expected, yolk was solid and inedible. My wife took a bath and tub leaked all over the carpet in dressing room ( required two maintenance workers several hours to fix, but carpet was wet.) We weren’t able to eat in La Terazza or the Expensive place because reservations should of been made before the cruise left Ft. Lauderdale. My Butler told us that the good restaurants were booked solid. How am I supposed to know this? My bad. Port of Key West was a tourist trap and depressing(except for the roosters, roaming freely, it was the highlight of the cruise.). My wife’s room card needed to be replaced twice, as it wouldn’t open Suite, one of the girls at reception mentioned it might be because the cell phone screws up the key card? Really? Nice job making us feel like it was our fault. We supposedly had Premium WiFi but it was spotty at best. I guess 50 miles off Florida you’re in the Bermuda Triangle where TV or Internet is nonexistent. Couldn’t even watch Sunday Football!!! Silversea, here’s a word for you...TECHNOLOGY! Get with it. Our Butler was great and helped us stock the fridge and serve meals. Also did our laundry which was excellent. The life boat drill was a joke...they were so busy squeezing us into a small part of the decking, no one ever explained how to use the life vest!! Glad there wasn’t an emergency because this didn’t make me feel safe. The wine served was below average wine but you could purchase great expensive wine but I was so food sick, drinking was not a priority. Then we get off the ship and find out another cruise ship had to turn around and return to port because of food poisoning. Hmmmm...if you decide to go on this cruise please take my advice and bring Pepto and Tums....Imodium might also be a good idea. I’ve lived and eaten in NYC for over 30 years and I’ve never felt as low as the Hostess at La Terazza made me feel when she said, “we are totally booked and there is a Very very long waiting list also”. But she said she’ll try and let us know by phoning our Suite. Yes! We got a phone call in our suite! No they could not seat us at all....explain to me why I would ever go through this again? If you can’t seat 2 people for dinner at 8-9 pm, you are in the wrong business.! Read Less

Silversea holds themselves out as an ULTRA LUXURY cruise line but is far from that. The staff is non responsive and the ship is out dated. Furthermore, the dining experience was awful, not unless you like waiters SWEAT pouring down from your plates on your meals. This was because the Restaurants Air Conditioning system was malfunctioning for the entire cruise. Almost every passenger that I met was complaining but the ship's staff just kept making excuses and tried to poo poo the situation. Even the ships water system had to be shut down for many hours because of mechanical failure. I have attempted to speak with Silversea corporate office about this horrific experience but they would NOT return any of my phone calls when we returned. I would stay away as far as possible from Silversea - they are even close to how they advertise themselves and they wont even return phone calls to discuss the disaster!!! Read Less

We chose the Fall Colors cruise because we hadn't been in Eastern Canada or a lot of the East Coast much. We really enjoyed our time on the ship; the crew and the service is really good. The food on this cruise didn't quite stand up to the food we had on a previous Mediterranean cruise, but was very good. The quality of the ship, cleanliness, shows, entertainment and cabins is really excellent. The passengers on this cruise were so friendly and our time on board especially joining Trivia each day was so fun and challenging. The Cruise Director, Vickie Van Tassel and her team were just amazing in their effort, energy and talent. The "Voices of Silversea" were exceptional and we went to the shows every night. There was also a night where we joined in a "Liars Event/show" that was so entertaining, a great laugh for everyone. All in all, a great cruise and I miss the ship already! We chose this cruise because it circumnavigated Newfoundland. They changed our schedule and eliminated half the cruise and 4 stops AFTER we left port, and no one will answer our emails or phone calls regarding a refund. We spent well over $30,000 on this 12 day cruise and they will not even respond to our inquiry. The menu was nearly all meditteranean and had very little variety and no local fare. The wine list was below par for the price. The staff, room attendants, bar tenders, waiters, etc were extremely nice. The shore excursions were cut short due to mass confusion on disembarking, thus getting us off the ship too late for the full itinerary for which we paid. The concierge desk was polite but totally helpless. The fact that no one from this company will have the decency to return our calls or emails is proof enough that they are NOT user-friendly. Run far and fast from Silversea. Seabourn, Oceana, and others are far superior for much more reasonable fares. You've been warned. Read Less

Sailing on Silver Seas is very expensive. Silver Seas touts themselves as being a six star cruise line. When Silver Seas advertises themselves as the very best they leave little room for error. This is our second time to cruise with Silver Seas we sailed through the Panama Canal in 2010. Our experience in 2010 was the reason we sailed again in 2018. In 2010 we were treated as if we were royalty. In 2018 we were treated as if were a step above common folks. We were not treated to a similar 2010 experience not even close. We were on a tour in Boston to the JFK Library and the tour guide asked how many people would recommend Silver Seas and no one raised their hand. His comment was he would buy everyone a second desert that night, no one laughed. Let's do the math we we stayed on the 9th deck with a veranda for 11 nights it cost me approximatly $675.00 a night and my wife $675.00 or $1,350.00 a night. This did not include our airfare to and from or our tours. The ship met us in Montreal we stayed at the William Gray a boutique hotel in old Montreal for $400.00 we spent an average of $300.00 a day on food and drinks and our accommodations and food was outstanding. $700.00 verses $1,350.00. On our 2010 cruise our butler serviced three cabins on our 2017 cruise our butler serviced 15 cabins. My wife was never escorted to dinner this year. I'm not saying our butler performed poorly this year this year to reach the butler I had to use the telephone I called and he promptly responded. In 2010 I didn't use a telephone to reach the butler the butler anticipated our schedule that year. Breakfast was great every day plentiful with too many selections tasty along with excellent servers. Lunch on the pool deck was fantastic along with exceptional service. Dinner on the fourth floor was average often I never saw anything that looked appetizing. I did see hamburger offered twice each night. I did have a few good meals. The service was uneven servers were assigned many tables and as a result servers over served dinner tables often stumbling over each other and asking redundant questions. It appeared that they couldn't determine what color of wine I was drinking. I thought they knew what color of wine I was drinking by the shape of the wine goblet p, but they couldn't. I wii say eating at their Italian restaurant was excellent and if you do ask for Davide our favorite server, he made us feel special. After all isn't that what we all want! Wine selections were great. Liquor selections were old fashion especially in their tequila choices. Nothing special. Oliver in the bar was outstanding. On my first cruise in 2010 I was given a special kitchen tour because I had charged my trip using my AMEX Platinum card. The chef told me he could get me anything I wanted with 24 hour notice. This year I decided to put him to the test. I asked for frog legs I was told they would check. I was told no frog legs. I didn't feel special. I thought the ship hadn't made port in Halifax, Portland, Maine or Boston surely in one of those ports they could have found frog legs! Read Less

it supposed to be a luxury cruise with great service but it turns to be an old and dated ship, a mid level ship has way better public areas, the spa is a shame, old, bad quality and terrible facilities. the main Restaurant is the only one that delivers a excellent service and quality of food, the rest the food was good but service is mediocre at best. the bars services were terrible as well very limited options on beverages and personal that seems they do not understand nor care what you ask for. in the grill the services was terrible either lunch, drinks or dinner, the manager was looking us play games without any concerns of what we order o need to dink or eat he was more concentrated on the games than in service!! we where a group of 8 people all well traveled and with high expectations from Silverseas and where not met. also the shows where a joke, no production, nice voices but all the same every night. Suite was a good size with nice bathroom ( dated but nice room) the ports and access to the cities where the best part. the humidor are well attended with a very professional staff ( Peter) there we received the service we where expecting in all the ship but it looks like peter was the best waiter in the ship. will definitively not come back to!! We chose Silver Sea because of the cruise ports, small ship, luxury accommodations, reputation for service, recommendation of travel agent and positive comments from friends. The voyage was a very positive experience and we were skeptical that cruising was for us. We are now thinking about our next cruise. Another advantage was meeting a number of wonderful people and making new friends. The staff was wonderful and was responsive to all our requests. Tour excursions were all good with the possible exception of the group tour in Tallinn. That could have been better organized. Our private tours organized by Silver Sea in St. Petersburg were a wonderful experience. Our guide was very knowledgeable, spoke excellent English and was very personable. Probably the only negative was the wifi system. It was free at our suite level but one had log in every hourwhich was a pain. Additionally, the wifi only allowed one device hooked into the system which did not allow photo sharing between my iPhone and iPad. These are very small negatives on what was a wonderful experience. We would use Silver Sea again. Read Less

The cabin ready for us with champagne and fruits. It was a very confortable cabin. The dining is the maximum point in the cruise. Fantastic food and wine. Everything very tasty. We can choose from Japanese food to Pizzas. Lovely cheeses and desserts. Another high point of Silver Sea is the Service. The butler always giving the maximum attention and all the staff in the restaurants were very kind. The shore excursions were as usual very quick and not very much time to stop at the points of interest. Resuming it was definitely one of the best ship cruise I did with my Family and I do recommend. I have always liked the Whisper but will never take a segment of a world cruise again. In this segment, the majority of the passengers had been on this cruise since January and had established little groups to dine, drink and socialize thus the new passengers had to find other new passengers in order to have a good time. This segment from Dubai to Athens had fewer new passengers due to the possible danger passing Yemen and other countries in the news but the tours to Luxor, Petra and Gisa were very worthwhile and Silversea takes precautions and has never had a threatening incident. The familiar crew on the Whisper helped make the trip more enjoyable. On the next segment from Athens to Monte Carlo, it was reported that 160 new passengers would board so I'm sure they outnumbered the tired world cruisers but we have cruised the Mediterranean many times and had seen many portsand we departed the Whisper in Athens. The food was wonderful in all dining venues and tasted better than I had remembered. The evening entertainment was professional and entertaining, Day lectures were educational and worthwhile and included a travel professional who highlighted the upcoming tours with a visual presentation describing history and cultural advice and additional sights. On days at sea, two speakers entertained passengers, one on British spies during World War 1 and two The other speaker told us his fascinating experience in Africa with camels. He actually rode by camel across the Gobi desert. Also on the British experience in Africa. The swimming pool was active with sun worshippers throughout the day as well as the hot tubs. The restaurant staff were amazing, we were just a bit disappointed with the cuisine & chef of the main restaurant the menu choices didn't vary much, veal & salmon were nearly always on the menu. The the staff in the restaraunt always looked after us, good wine selection & also to mention that Silversea doesn't force to seat with other people, every night we got a table for 2 but we previously also booked every evening. The speciality restaurant were very good, Le Champagne bring outstanding. The entertainment was not good, the shows were very disappointing. The only show were enjoyed was the show by the Cruise Director Vicky, apart from being an amazing Cruise Director she truly is a stunning performer, her 1 woman show was raw full of emotion & one of the highlights of our cruise. We did the Baltic and on to Southampton on Whisper and enjoyed our first experience with Silversea, although the food was all very Italian based, which can become tiresome. We found Seabourn to have a greater selection on their menus and wines were also a little better class. Having also completed over 70 days cruising with Seabourn the comparison was interesting to say the least. Port excursions are expensive on any 6 star vessel and we were introduced to private tours, by meeting fellow passengers on line prior to departure through Cruise Critic. We enjoyed smaller tours groups and very informative Guides through TJ Tours in St Petersburg. The butler surprised us by unpacking our suitcases which we didn't have done with Seabourn. Entertainment was a little better on Seabourn, but with a number of days on (some staff do 4 to 6 months on without a break) i can understand that doing the same routine over and over can become a strain. The suites on ships are very similar and the service of a very good standard, with Seabourn just pipping Silversea in this regards. Eating on deck was definitely the best meal with the steak and prawns the highlight )one of the best cooked steaks i have ever had, and the prawns were huge. Found that there was not a lot of action after the show finished around 10 or 11 at night. Overall i would class Seabourn a little ahead at this point, but still a very enjoyable cruise Read Less
