First off, what is it about air conditioning? I had the thermostat turned all the way down in my room and the temperature was still just marginally cool. Definitely not comfortable enough for me to get a good nights sleep. And on the last night I found out that the entire ship was on one central system and not really adjustable by room. Even the observation room was not adjustable. So stick a bunch of people in there in the afternoon with all those large windows and it was downright HOT. Your staff finally blocked the doors open to get some airflow thru, to try to cool us down. Service from our butler was great, he was very responsive and took really good care of us. Food was good, service there was pretty good also, but a couple of times we were kind of ignored, as we had to ask for something more than once. Would have liked the main bar to have been open more during the day. Only being able to go to "The Grille" in the day was substandard, as it was pretty hot during those times, as well as humid. Shows were OK, given the stage size and the format. Very talented singers/dancers. We felt that a couple of the excursions were overpriced for the quality of the excursion. The one that was the least impressive was the one on Chios as the guy giving the cruise was marginal in the amount of info he gave us.Very overpriced on that one. Read Less

The itinerary, dates and length of cruise was the reason we chose Silversea. We also wanted a higher end cruise line, which we understood that Silversea was. The embarkation and disembarkation was the smoothest I've ever experienced. It was well organized, had little/no queues, and plenty of staff to assist. The ship and cabins, in general, are a bit tired and dated and in much need of a refresh. The cruise was also more formal, particularly as it relates to the dress code, than I would have preferred. No shorts after 6PM and jackets required every evening was too stuffy, especially when you are supposed to be on vacation and relaxing. The food was excellent, particularly La Dame, and the service was top notch. We traveled with a large group (celebrating a 35th wedding anniversary) so 3 small children were in tow, all under the age of 4. I would definitely not recommend Silversea if traveling with children. There were 4 high chairs on the entire ship, which meant the majority of the time, there wasn't any high chairs for our children when we were dining. Also, there was no childcare/babysitting services which would have been nice for the family to enjoy a quiet evening or to go on excursions that required more activity. The pool was small and we were afraid our children would make too much noise and disrupt the other guests, so we really didn't use it much. Not much in general for kids to do. Silversea is definitely an older demographic without kids... The ports were excellent and there was enough time to really enjoy them. I particularly liked the fact that a local person from each port was at the Excursion desk on the ship to provide truly local expertise/recommendations. Our butler, Rooben, was fantastic. He was prompt, courteous, eager to please and anticipated our needs. Definitely one of the best butlers I have had. Our housekeeper, Joanna, likewise was fantastic. Overall, the cruise was nice but I would wait to go on recently refurbished ship and definitely without kids. Read Less

We usually travel on Crystal Cruise Lines our friend told us that Silverseas was as good or better boy was she wrong. Lets start with the positives. The rooms were very spacious, the beds were comfortable, the closets very big and the bathroom was oversized but it stops there. The staff were mostly rude! I can not count how many times they told us to go to our room and order room service. When we ask if there was a movie playing they told us to go to our room and watch a movie. The wait staff were not well trained. The would give 4 out of 6 people water and we would have to call them back and ask them to poor the others water. They would forget to take an order (there were only 6 people at the table) and once they took the order they would forget to bring the order. They would constantly roll their eyes if you ask them for something that would require them to go someplace else to get it. They would say well that is on the 4th floor and it will take 30 minutes to get it. Maybe you should go to the 4th floor. We had a group of 18 and when we ate at the grill and ask them to put the tables together so we could have a least one family dinner together they refused. No matter what you ask it was an inconvenience. When you would ask a question at the front desk they never knew the answer. For example...what time does the ship leave tonight. I consider that a simple question and all staff members should be able to answer it. One day they played bingo and we were told they could only play one game because they had to play trivia right after. 75% of the people came to play bingo and that 75% left when they started the trivia. One night they did Kareokee my husband sang 2 songs and another guy did one song then the cruise director Vicki called all the women up to sing a song then called all the men up to sing a song. It turned into a big joke and again 75% of the room left! The women working on the ship acted like they were hired to entertain themselves. They were also very flirty with the men and no spouse wants to deal with that. I have never spent so much time in my room on any cruise. This ship was a joke! The food was the worse food I have ever had on a cruise ship. If the food would have been excellent you could have been forgiving of somethings. There was a lack of entertainment and when there was something fun the cruise director limited it and started something new. Maybe your target audience in the past was 80 plus but from what I could see the majority of the people on the ship were mid 50's early 60's. I know if I was offered a free cruise on this cruise lines I would not go! Do not ask me to act like I am at the Ritz Carlton when I am clearly at the Motel 6. The food at Ihop is better then the food on this ship. We ate at least one meal every day off the ship just so we could have a decent meal. The ports were excellent but I would reconsider booking on the SilverSea. Read Less

Save your money & do not book a Silversea Whisper cruise! My family and I just disembarked from a 9 day Greek Islands cruise (Athens to Venice) and it had to be the worst luxury cruise we have ever taken (previously on Crystal & Oceania). To summarize: 1. Food - Not at luxury quality not service. Silverseas must be saving it’s $$$ portion sizes were tiny and we were often hungry after a meal. Service slow (lunch on pool deck often 1-1 1/2 hours). 2. Ship - ship is 17 years old and needs to be scrapped. Paint chipped, old carpets, etc. Felt like I was on a cruise in the last century. Silversea should be ashamed for charging what they charged us and put us on a ship like this. 3. Excursions- the cruise business of continuing to rip off its passengers continues. We were charged $180 to sit on a bus for 40 minutes then dumped on a remote beach for 2 hours. One highlight was the Sea Safari on. RIB boat in Split, Croatia but even then on a 6 hour trip we were only provided a “snack” of tuna fish salad and anchovies. 4. Staff - Our Butler was always in a rush and nervous. Compared to our Oberoi-trained butler on Oceania Rivierawas a stark contrast. Reception staff inexperienced often could not answer questions. Wait staff slow and forgetful. Maitre d in one restaurant yelled at a staff member and a passenger. 5. Entertainment - awful. 6. Fitness Center - Pilates classes were NOT Pilates (I know I’m an instructor). Save your money, do your research and don’t book on Silversea. Read Less

We have been on more than 15 cruises and fur this one we chose Silversea as we heard how nice it was and wanted a smaller ship. From start to finish including embarkation and disembatcation were flawless. The cabins were luxurious and the butler service was outstanding. All excursions met or exceeded expectations and the food and open dining experience was nice. You do have to make reservations for restaurants early as the do fill up but no matter where you ate the gods was great and service was above and beyond. Everyone had a smile and would customize as necessary. Took 6 Adults and they all were in awe of how nice it was. Highly recommend. Entrertainment was very good but don't expect the big production as on large ships. We made aloe of new friends as the small shop experience made it easy to meet people. Will definitely cruise Silversea again. Read Less

Our overall impression of the Silver Whisper was amazing. The services were excellent. We had a wonderful butler and maid. The attention to every detail made us feel very special. The food was amazing and all our waiters were quite efficient as well as entertaining. The ports were places we never dreamed of seeing and experiencing. We would definitely recommend the Silver Seas. The only comment on the negative side would be that our ship did not have a gift shop for sundry items and logo wear from Silver Seas. The gifts shop on board carried lovely specialized gifts and apparell. We particularly enjoyed the two shows that were scheduled earlier in the evening (6:45 pm). We found it difficult to stay up for show at 10pm after having such wonderful dinners. Our excursions took us to the places we really wanted to see. Some had extensive travel in the vans but could not be helped. Read Less

Silversea holds themselves out as an ULTRA LUXURY cruise line but is far from that. The staff is non responsive and the ship is out dated. Furthermore, the dining experience was awful, not unless you like waiters SWEAT pouring down from your plates on your meals. This was because the Restaurants Air Conditioning system was malfunctioning for the entire cruise. Almost every passenger that I met was complaining but the ship's staff just kept making excuses and tried to poo poo the situation. Even the ships water system had to be shut down for many hours because of mechanical failure. I have attempted to speak with Silversea corporate office about this horrific experience but they would NOT return any of my phone calls when we returned. I would stay away as far as possible from Silversea - they are even close to how they advertise themselves and they wont even return phone calls to discuss the disaster!!! Read Less

We had been on Silver Sea long ago and were very pleased and impressed. Leaving from Fort Lauderdale while living in Florida was a huge factor, along with the Silver Sea reputation. Our dining experiences were wonderful, although the last night at dinner, the service was extremely slow. The dining staff in each venue was very pleasant and accommodating. The food was wonderful. It would have been better if we had we had more information about making reservations to try the lava stone dinner, but that did not happen for us in time. Exploring in Key West was as we expected. Bimini was surprisingly primitive. The people on the island whom we met were very friendly and helpful, but the "center" of town was hugely disappointing. We were told we could walk there and there were no cabs. That was not true, we got a cab. Also, walking to the center of town on streets with no sidewalks would have been dangerous. Read Less

We love Silver Sea and usually are not disappointed. The timing for us on this cruise was after major hurricanes hit the islands, so there were fewer excursions and less activities available. St. Bart's was particularly disappointing since very few shops were open on Sunday and many were still damaged and not able to be open anyway. The butler feature that Silver Sea offers is usually something we brag about since you feel very special having someone wait on you and they personalize your service. However on this cruise, our butler was not very attentive. He was very pleasant and was always asked if everything was ok, but we had to ask him to remove a breakfast tray of dishes late in the afternoon, and one day had to ask for towels since they were missing. Our travelling companions in the room next door kept asking for ice because he didn't keep the bucket full. He did not offer to unpack or pack our bags. I don't expect this type of butler service to be the general case, but we were slightly disappointed. The small ships are the way to go for us, as the staff gets to know you very quickly and there are no long waiting lines for anything. We thought the food and wine was excellent. The entertainment was very good. Read Less

This was our first time on Silver sea and it was great! We have been on many other cruises before like Seabourn and Regent which are also great but there was something about Silversea that gave that extra touch. The size of the ship was great as it is small, where they dock in St. Petersburg Russia doesn't get any better...right behind the Hermitage. It was like staying at a five star hotel right in the middle of St. Petersburg. I recommend you get your Visa for Russia, although it is not necessary if you go on the tours offered, but with a Visa you can go off and on as you please. Great service and amazing food. The staff really got to know you and not expecting any tips..we ended-up tipping our Butler as he was so attentive to our family needs We are going to repeat with Silversea on their new ship the in a few months and looking forward to it. It was a fantastic time Starting from the departure city, although we didn´t stay in Southampton, we managed to have three lovely days in London. The embarkation went smoothly with a very kind help of everyone, from the time I stepped out of the taxi in the port until arriving my cabin. The ship as usual beautiful and clean. The cabin ready for us with champagne and fruits. It was a very confortable cabin. The dining is the maximum point in the cruise. Fantastic food and wine. Everything very tasty. We can choose from Japanese food to Pizzas. Lovely cheeses and desserts. Another high point of Silver Sea is the Service. The butler always giving the maximum attention and all the staff in the restaurants were very kind. The shore excursions were as usual very quick and not very much time to stop at the points of interest. Resuming it was definitely one of the best ship cruise I did with my Family and I do recommend. This was a Girls' Cruise. I took my two daughters and a treasured niece. All, but me, of course, are in their late 40s. My niece was a newbie, but my daughters and I have cruised with Silversea many times. Actually, the Whisper is my favorite SS ship. Aside from being unexpectedly cold and windy, and in spite of a few missable ports (Saguenay and Sept Îles) it was a wonderful cruise. As is usual, the Silversea crew was fantastic...nothing is too much trouble. It always amazes me that the service is so fabulous, the atmosphere is quite formal, and yet there is no hand kissing, no pretentions. The guests are well traveled and friendly. The food and the complimentary wines were exceptionally good..even by Silversea standards. As usual, the bar service was terrific. Norman Rafelson, the Hotel Director is a star! For us, the Activities included attending a few good shows. Surprisingly, the 5:00pm daily team Trivia was the highlight. The Cruise Director, Vicki Van Tassel, a former Silversea entertainer, made every minute fun. It was obvious that she enjoyed hosting Trivia and that was infectious. We would/will travel with Silversea again in a heartbeat! Read Less

There were so may high spots and the overall experience was excellent, such a special ambiance and the right balance of genuine friendliness and professionalism which made for a fabulous holiday. We are not normally cruisers, I am 54 and have not cruised since my teens (my parents were avid cruisers). My partner gets seasick, even on a padello, and we are both the sort that likes to get involved in destinations and stay for a good few days to get under the skin of a place. So why did we cruise this time? The attraction was the ports, particularly St Petersburg, especially as we did not need to apply for a visa (which is currently expensive and messy involving a trip to London). The other ports were all new to us and by combining a couple of nights in Stockholm and Copenhagen pre and post cruise it was irresistible. Embarkation and disembarcation was a breeze, apart from the first morning in St Petersburg and as we were not on a trip until the afternoon this did not impact on us. The size of Silversea attracted us, The Whisper only takes 382 guests; neither of us like big hotels and the thought of a big cruise ship filled me with horror! We were not so sure about "all inclusive" but it was wonderful. Whilst we are not big drinkers having quality champagne, wines, cocktails and spirits as and when you wanted them was really nice. Wines were varied throughout the cruise, on the one occasion I did not like the red wine I was able to select one I had had on a previous night. The cruise Director, Vicky was a real star and got a great atmosphere going without being over the top. We had not intended to go to shows but gave them a go and enjoyed them, some very talented singers and decent variety for a wide range of musical tastes. The staff appeared to be a really strong team and often knew what you needed just before you did! From the room attendant, butler, Karen at the gym, waiters, bar staff and the rest of the crew service was excellent. Food was really lovely with a decent range of options and we enjoyed all the restaurants. I am a real foodie and the range of options was really good and never too formal. The Cabin was beautiful, spacious and although we did not have a private balcony that was fine for this cruise and we had a door out to a shared balcony. We had the natural light but at a better price. Bathroom was spacious and well equipped and there was a great walk in wardrobe. We organised our own trips apart from in St Petersburg when it was easier to go with the organised trips. We did 3 half day and 1 evening trip and all were great. The evening at the Hermitage was particularly magical and although not a cheap option it was worth every penny. The Through the Eyes of a local was fun & Peterhof Palace was stunning. Came back and already booked another Silversea cruise for next year! Read Less

Was a little concerned about the younger passengers in our group but we spent so much time off the ship touring the cities that they were happy to come home to a friendly staff, wonderful food and cozy rooms. We had ship credits and enjoyed the spa, wonderful massage! Our room attendant, Yesf, bent over backwards to make us feel welcome. He brought in balloons for our youngest passenger on her birthday and the ship made her a special cake that was presented at dinner, very special. Madagascar Prawns were absolutely fanatastic, most all the food was wonderful! Would highly recommend for a low-key family excursion.. The Silver Whisper is currently home of the World Cruise and we enjoyed the first three segments (hence segmentarians). 180 of the 380 guests on board are doing the whole cruise, Ft Lauderdale to Venice, finishing at the beginning of May. The ship is in excellent condition and we noticed our suite and the public spaces were immaculate. The restaurants all served excellent food and we had no trouble obtaining reservations for hot rocks on deck or La Terrazza. Le Champagne was very under used and we enjoyed our two visits there. Wines were also good. The crew are what make Silversea and we feel that their very best are saved for the World Cruise. The entertainment programme under the leadership of Colin Brown was very good particularly the speakers. The singers are also up a notch compared with previous Silversea experience. The international hostesses were terrific. Friendly, outgoing and visible all over the ship. The shore concierge desk was efficient if, sometimes, a little tardy with information. The destination consultant and his wife, Jon and Tracy Fleming are well informed and very goodmatntheir jobs. TRacy gives photography and iPad classes which started very basic but soon moved on. Just what was required for the varied abilities at her classes. After a slow start the free (an hour a day each) wi fi was sorted out and worked well. The IT engineer was poor and reception much more helpful and efficient. We had many, many sea days crossing the southern Pacific which we enjoy very much. The choice of excursions was good and in most places, reasonably priced. We enjoyed the three day overland trip to Machu Picchu, which apart from a cancelled flight Lima to Cuzco because of bad weather, went like clockwork. The guides and hotels were excellent as was the luxury Hiram Bigham (ex Orient Express) train with brunch. When it came to disembarking in Sydney, we were docked at White Bay Terminal, which did not please the World Cruisers as it is a journey to Circular Quay and attractions from there. We needed to be first off and this was easily arranged and our three cases were waiting for us in the terminal, already on a trolley. That is service! Read Less

We had a fabulous cruise, in part because of the high points of the Silversea experience, and in part because we experienced unseasonably wonderful weather and the ports on this 7 day cruise, including the embarkation and disembarkation cities, were so wonderful; St. Petersburg was especially wonderful over three long, intensive days. As a port intensive itinerary the shortcomings of the cruise line took on less importance. We previously cruised on Wind in 2005. Whisper, as a ship was better in virtually every respect. The service and passenger first approach of the entire crew was evident throughout our voyage. For us Silversea feels that a product of a different era with accompanying positives and negatives. The positives:- Seamless embarkation/disembarkation, including port stops- Seamless, gracious check-in- Wonderful, intuitive butler and housekeeping service- Comfortable, high quality bedding- Pool Grille menu and service were first class- Accommodating staff and policies: we were wowed by the extension of La Terazza lunch hours in Helsinki and Tallinn to serve those returning from late tours- The pool scene was very civilized and comfortable - good chairs/never overcrowded etc.- Very good spa with good massage at a reasonable price (for a cruise ship); although we missed the spa music and smells that others use to enhance the experience- No attempts at upsells nor frivolous service at any time during the cruise- Food preparation was uniformly wonderful, although the menu choices and recipes were not always to our liking (see below)- Drinks at the main bar were very good- The largely homogeneous passenger mix of respectful, reservedly friendly people meant an absence of annoyances that we have experienced on other linesThe personal negatives: - Menus were eclectic and not well oriented towards contemporary mainstream tastes; best accepted by very flexible diners with European tastes. We were highly satisfied on occasion and at other times very dissatisfied. Menu 1 at La Terazza was great and Menu 2 in the rotation was very disappointing- The more complex among the mixed drinks ordered at the pool were incompetently prepared. It appeared (not verified) that the "bartenders" were promoted/drafted pool waiters- Silversea has the worst Internet we have experience at sea - comparable to early dial-up and priced as if efficient and fast. For us this alone would be a non-starter in choosing to cruise with Silversea on a lengthy cruise or to regions very remote from family- Other technology integration is non-existent e.g. A/V, restaurant and services reservation systems etc.- Ill-conceived frequent guest program whose first reward thresholds are set far too high- The propulsion system felt like it was a product of another technology area when maneuvering in port; in Helsinki we experienced a level of noise and vibration unlike anything encountered on any other ship when we had to "parallel park" to our space at the pier- No attempt was made to bring onboard local entertainment during three days in St. PetersburgAt the end of the day it is a value judgment. Some passenger may be more flexible diners, may not care about Internet access etc. For anyone with service first values and looking only for a small ship experience, Silversea is a wonderful choice; for us, it will continue as a viable choice in certain circumstances, but this cruise did not elevate Silversea to our "go to" cruise line.
