Last September, my husband and I sailed for the first time on the Silversea Whisper. In the past we had sailed with other companies and we decided to try this one due to the good opinions that had come to us by different ways. Unfortunately we have to say that the "exceptional experience" Silversea longs to offer is not what we had. When you travel on a luxury cruise you expect “luxury” and of course you pay for that. Anyway, let´s start with the positives. Embarkation and disembarkation were great. The stateroom was spacious and well designed with a walk in storage closet. The beds were comfortable. Butler service was ok although we could not find the utility of that service. There were several Spanish speaking in the crew very pleased to always help us. But that’s it. The food was very ordinary, not what you expect for a six star, expensive cruise. The buffet lunch was disappointing. Nothing tasted of anything. Nightly dinner meals were boring and simple. Service was friendly but very slow. The house wines were cheap and nasty. The entertainment was dreadful. It consisted of the same people singing “Voices of Silversea” It became very boring very quickly. We did not know that luxury was at odds with fun. Dress code outdated. Wake up, this is 2018 not “Gone with the wind” times. For two nights when the sea was a little choppy there was loud noises throughout the night which sounded like machinery moving so we could not get some sleep. But the worst was yet to come and that happened two nights before the end of the cruise. We had a reservation for dinner at the Grill and it was a windy night so plastic curtains were semi-open o completely closed. While we waited to be attended which took a long time, a passenger next to us wanted to close all of them. We did not agree because was to hot due to the ceiling heaters. At that point the mention passenger got up and started to close the ones near us. Faced with our protest the Maître was unable to solve the problem allowing the aforementioned passenger to impose his criteria without taking into account our own and this motivated our immediate departure from the place. We complained at the reception desk and went to the main dining room where the Maitre apologized for the incident. But up to day no one on behalf of Silversea has addressed us in a formal way to present their apologies. We missed the so called “impeccable hospitality” of the Silversea. Consequently we are very disappointed and Silversea will not be our next option. Read Less

WE choose this cruise because of the itinerary, and because we were traveling with a group of friends from "La Chaine des Rotisseure," which was a great experience on previous cruises. I wish we would stay in some places over night, considering how close the ports were from each other. Food was not so great comparing with previous cruises, except for the Grill. I think, there were not many activities on the ship, partitionary due to busy schedule I assume, but any way.. Performers were the worst, except for the piano player Alexandra, the most intelligent person from the whole crew. "The Voices" sound so harsh that it hearts the ears. Guests performers were fine though. The bartender in the Grappa bar was rude and behaved too familiarly with the guests and rude to the crew members, acting superior. She never smiled. Our cabin and cabin service was very good. Read Less

Silversea holds themselves out as an ULTRA LUXURY cruise line but is far from that. The staff is non responsive and the ship is out dated. Furthermore, the dining experience was awful, not unless you like waiters SWEAT pouring down from your plates on your meals. This was because the Restaurants Air Conditioning system was malfunctioning for the entire cruise. Almost every passenger that I met was complaining but the ship's staff just kept making excuses and tried to poo poo the situation. Even the ships water system had to be shut down for many hours because of mechanical failure. I have attempted to speak with Silversea corporate office about this horrific experience but they would NOT return any of my phone calls when we returned. I would stay away as far as possible from Silversea - they are even close to how they advertise themselves and they wont even return phone calls to discuss the disaster!!! Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the date it was sailing, which may sound strange, but I had planned to attend an event immediately prior to this cruise. Well, Silver Sea does not disappoint! We were pampered by our butler, Ricardo and his assistant Neale, who were just amazing. Our cabin was just lovely, spacious and extremely well planned. The bed and bedding were simply fabulous and the bath towels were hard to leave behind, but we did. I can't say enough good things about the staff throughout, but especially the waiters and the managers of the restaurants. Upon arriving, we met with the maître d' and the head chef to discuss our allergies. Several other voyagers were also asked to meet privately with them to share their dietary concerns. After that, Silver Sea always kept track of who was dining where so that your individual allergy profile followed you around the ship. Our favorite place to dine was The Grill. Although there was more sophisticated food elsewhere on board, Milos ran a really fun spot! The smiles and caring attitude were genuine and made you feel welcome there all the time. His staff was so attentive that it was hard to come home. In the evening, you can grill your own steak and seafood right at your table. Do not pass up an opportunity to eat pasta, made daily on board by a really special Italian chef. OMG. Memories of their lasagna will be hard to forget! When you schedule your voyage, be sure to include one night at least at La Terrazza Restaurant. You can eat pasta and continental cuisine at the main restaurant, as well. We were a bit disappointed in the initial wine offerings at each meal and didn't realize that we could just request a different wine until our last night on board. We should have know that, but had forgotten. Last, but not least, the entertainment on the Silver Whisper was great. They had a group of 6 young singers whose talents were on display almost every night. We just loved them! There also were 2 piano players, one at each bar, a fabulous trio/combo that played at different venues throughout the ship, too. They were really wonderful as well. There were two ballet performances while we were on board. They were a nice addition. As far as the excursions that we took, I'd say that they were okay, but not fabulous. A couple of the guides were just not that nice to us, and we were feeling like they didn't get it that their jobs were working with foreigners and the public. Read Less

I have always liked the Whisper but will never take a segment of a world cruise again. In this segment, the majority of the passengers had been on this cruise since January and had established little groups to dine, drink and socialize thus the new passengers had to find other new passengers in order to have a good time. This segment from Dubai to Athens had fewer new passengers due to the possible danger passing Yemen and other countries in the news but the tours to Luxor, Petra and Gisa were very worthwhile and Silversea takes precautions and has never had a threatening incident. The familiar crew on the Whisper helped make the trip more enjoyable. On the next segment from Athens to Monte Carlo, it was reported that 160 new passengers would board so I'm sure they outnumbered the tired world cruisers but we have cruised the Mediterranean many times and had seen many portsand we departed the Whisper in Athens. The food was wonderful in all dining venues and tasted better than I had remembered. The evening entertainment was professional and entertaining, Day lectures were educational and worthwhile and included a travel professional who highlighted the upcoming tours with a visual presentation describing history and cultural advice and additional sights. On days at sea, two speakers entertained passengers, one on British spies during World War 1 and two The other speaker told us his fascinating experience in Africa with camels. He actually rode by camel across the Gobi desert. Also on the British experience in Africa. The swimming pool was active with sun worshippers throughout the day as well as the hot tubs. Underwater exercises took place at 2 pm followed by water volleyball at 3. Read Less
