Dates fitted - I wanted to do a river cruise in Europe- friends had a conference in Vienna so it seemed like a good idea to combine work and pleasure. I had completed a Nile river cruise in egypt and loved it so thought a chance to see some of the areas in Europe that I hadn’t visited would be good. The staff and crew have been excellent- especially the captain and butlers. Cabins are good except that the very small shower is difficult for taller people. Entertainment was exceptional - all activity alternatives were great - I enjoyed all of the ones I chose - particularly enjoyed the bike rides - especially the ride through Vienna. Musical entertainment was outstanding - loved string quartet, palais Lichtenstein, piano recital etc. also liked being able to walk each morning on the upper deck track. I found the gym fairly limiting as it was too small and very airless. A defibrillator should be mandatory and a trained medical staff member present. Overall I loved my cruise and would consider joining another scenic cruise. The most impressive thing is that you are exceedingly well looked after and that you don’t pay for anything once you are on board. Food is amazing and all food and beverages are provided with great generosity. Thank you Team Scenic. Read Less

Essentially took this tour with another couple who where wanting to celebrate their 30th Wedding Anniversary. Despite the fact our airplane arrived well over an hour late in Prague the very approachable Scenic representative was their to greet us and take us to the local hotel. Likewise for the balance of the trip all the services from presentations by the Cruise Director, departure for excursions to opening of the restaurants were completely on time and very timely. The Chef on our cruise provided an excellent array of culinary delights both on the buffet and a la carte services. The cut on everything from slices meats to vegetables and dessert items was flawless. I inquired with the Chef who frequently made table checks about the "secrets" about a "Clear Tomato" that was being served for lunch. Chef Broccoli was most generous and provided a recipe for this exceptional soup. The effort put in by the entire staff of our trip was 110%. They worked well as a team and professional ignored the occasional unthinking and too casual guest. My only concern would be that the dining room was a slight bit noisy and congested and that for "older" folks (70 +) might find it tiring after more than a week. Likewise the rooms will be a tad small for those on the "heavier or tall" side. The Tailormade Scenic software very innovative and highly effective. I only recently have been using a smart phone but found it enhanced the trip. The system was occasionally nonfunctional when listening to the tour guides in large congested areas. However the information and pictures while sailing down the picturesque Danube River very complementary. Did find the survey questionare at the end of the tour rather long and time consuming. I thought it might take 20 minutes to complete but it had so many questions that I ran out of time and had to omit the last quarter of the survey. Cabin balcony excellent. Really liked the size, the glass, even the comfortable chairs. Read Less

We chose Scenic as we had travelled with them once before. We were not disappointed. The whole time we felt cared for and nurtured. The cabin was beautifully appointed with an airy balcony and plenty of space. Dining options were numerous and all food and drink was fantastic quality. Entertainment included an onboard pianist, in addition to performers being brought aboard from various ports. We were even treated to a recital by a classical quartet in a Château, where Scenic docked just for the evening performance, then sailed on. Very special! Most of all, the staff were welcoming, attentive, competent and caring, which always makes a trip. There was always a personal touch. The cruise director was amazing - a French national who was full of wonderful insights into her native country. Hotel Manager ensured all F&B ran seamlessly. Food and drink choices were incredibly varied and top quality. Highly recommend! Read Less

As a past Scenic traveller this was on my bucket list. This lived up to my expectations, I was part of a land/cruise tour of Vietnam & Cambodia over 22 Nights, Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hoi An, Hue, Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) & Siem Reap. This included the 7N cruise. We were a land content group of only 11 (9 aussie,2 Kiwis) due to early tour, 33 on the cruise. Low numbers meant that we were treated as celebrities by the enthusiastic staff who could not do enough for us. We all became friends early on the tour. Beautiful food & open bar made waistlines expand but there was no complaints Special thanks to Cruise Director Sven (he was always there to welcome us back from shore excursions) & all the crew & staff for making it a memorable experience. My recommendation...easy...Do it if you never get to do another one. Read Less

We were told by friends how great the service and overall experience was. It lived up to what we were told. The staff was ready to help and even went out of there way to make the trip enjoyable. It was very nice to have everything included in the price. I have been with other tour providers and it seemed that there were always hidden costs, but not with Scenic even the tipping was covered. The port talks were very informative and helped with making each day go smoothly. The cabins were clean and well thought out. The shower was great and the pressure of the water was better then home. (I was in the navy and boat water press isn,t always great). Dinning was fantastic with every day having a good selection and the dinners being out standing with the quality. On board entertainment and activities hit the mark for the audience. Read Less

From start to finish our cruise was amazing. From the food to the tours to the cabins and staff, we had no complaints on our trip from Budapest to Vilshofen. Even when Mother Nature decided to change our plans (we were supposed to sail to Nuremberg but the river was too low) they made sure that not only could we go on our previously chosen off ship tours, they made sure we had the option to tour a more local spot for those who didn’t want a long bus ride to their original tour choices. Speaking of which, the tours were interesting, educational, varied and nearly every single port had something for everyone. And when it didn’t. Stay on the ship and watch the beautiful scenery pass you by! Not to mention the amazing food and lovely lounge pianist. There’s even a pool you can relax and enjoy, plus a fitness room and on board massage therapist as well as a hairstylist if you want to pamper yourself. We highly recommend this tour to anyone considering it! Read Less

We were invited by some friends to join a group that was planning to cruise the Rhine River from Zurich to Amsterdam, so we decided to go. Our travel agent booked us on the Scenic Jasper with the rest of the group. From the moment we stepped on board on 5/8 until we got off the ship, it was a truly wonderful time. Our cabin was spacious and well designed, and it was kept spotlessly clean and supplied by the housekeeping staff. The ship itself was in immaculate condition, and the lounges and dining areas were extremely clean and comfortable. The staff, starting with the tour director, Tadej, and our assigned butler, Marko, all the way through the wait staff, bartenders, chef and kitchen crew. maintenance staff, and every other staff member, were all extremely personable and attentive to the needs of the guests. We were made to feel most welcome on board and valued as customers. The activities that were planned were interesting and informative, and were well planned and organized. There were several evening during which local entertainment was brought on board, and those occasions were thoroughly enjoyed. One night we were bussed to a concert hall at which we were entertained by two highly talented opera singers and a classically trained pianist. It was a very moving experience. The food and beverages on board were simply outstanding. Each night before dinner was served, Chef Bogdan came out and addressed the passengers with a preview of the meal; the wine steward described for us the wine and food pairings; and Cruise Director Tadej informed us of the next day's ship movements, available activities and individual options. The staff's attentiveness to the wants and needs of the passengers was impressive. My wife and I completely and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and we are already planning to take another cruise with Scenic. And we are going to recruit another circle of friends and relatives to join us. When we left the ship for the last time, it was a difficult moment because we had been embraced so well by the staff and now we had to leave them. We will be back! Read Less

Recommended by friends this cruise did not disappoint. Great activities, who could not be impressed by Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom and Bayon Temple.Scenic pay particular attention to the finer detail, arranging trips not experienced by other cruises in particular the themed gala dinner at an Angkor temple where we were entertained by Apsara dancers, and Wat Hanchey where we had the opportunity to talk to a novice monk. Their enthusiastic and knowledgeable guides ensure you are informed in terms of the history but also relate personal and family experiences that really give everything a context. The ships facilities are superb, cabins offering plenty of space, light and storage, food that challenges the senses, with wine/beer constantly on tap. The onboard staff are the icing on the cake they are attentive, and display genuine enjoyment at ensuring you are having a good time. All of this is packaged with a social consciousness that you do not often experience. It was great to feel that some of the money from this cruise was going directly to local communities. This was not gifted but earned which ensured that there was respect between all parties. Not cheap but bearing in mind everything is included, I would highly recommended it Read Less

Joined friends on a Christmas Market River Cruise. We had booked two nights pre cruise and two nights post cruise in local hotels.Three days before we left home, Scenic changed our hotel from a 5 Star to a 3.5 star hotel. the business office insisted that this was considered an upgrade for us. The two nights were over $650. USD Embarkation as well as disembarkation were very smooth. The cruise director, Richard Gray, could not have been more accommodating. The ship is Lovely, and the cabin adequate. The service level is very high. All the staff were top notch. As there are drought conditions in Europe, the River levels can be an issue. We were prepared pre-cruise, that there could be an alternate itinerary. As it turned out this cruise was the first all season,to make the entire cruise on the river. There is much hype about their special pillows. Problem was that they ran out of the special down pillows on the first day. There is also much hype with regards to the cuisine. They should tone that down a bit. The buffets are good. Much selection for breakfast and lunch. You also have an option of ordering of a "special menu". Menu items were not freshly prepared. In general there is an issue of cold food. If there is a special menu offering Eggs Benedict, it is a reasonable expectation that the dish will be freshly prepared. That was not the case. The eggs were cold and overcooked. The food needs help. Read Less

All the activities and sights, eg Angkor Wat at sunrise, pagodas, circus, etc; were exceptional. The tour guides were very knowledgeable and considerate. When on shore, the meals in different restaurants were delicious and gave us a taste of their local dishes. The Hotels in Siem Reap and Ho Chi Minh were definitely 5 star and luxurious. The highlight was the attentive staff and excellent food on board the Scenic Spirit. The Gala dinners on board were always well presented and delicious, as were the everyday meals. We thoroughly enjoyed the comforts of our cabin. Our butler was also very helpful and attentive. We learned a lot about the Cambodian people and their culture from the staff we met on board. Activities such as yoga, Tai Chi and swimming helped keep us fit. The massages were very reasonably priced and enjoyable. Also the free laundry facilities came in handy. Read Less

Chose this cruise to see the scenery, castles, and towns as we cruised along the Danube and the Rhine and the fact we would not have to pack for all 15 days. Actually we only cruised 1 day total in the daytime, the rest was a series of long bus trips, 3 ship changes and a few night in hotels and some cruising at night. The Ruby was the last ship but no space to enter all 3. This was all due to low water levels in the rivers which Scenic knew about long before our departure date but failed to inform us. We were not given the option to cancel or change sailing dates. I tried to correspond with Scenic prior to our departure when I suspected a problem, but had no response. The city excursions were good and we had very good local guides. These were hard to enjoy after our long bus trips and room changes. The buses used for both the excursions and the shuttle service between port had poor visibility out of the side windows because of reflection. The washroom in the buses ranged from filthy to poor. One of the rest stops along the way was disgusting and we had to pay to use any of the Rest Rooms (WC's) - something Scenic should have covered. The main topic of conversation on the trip was how to get compensation from Scenic for our lost holiday not how we were enjoying the trip. There was little enjoyment just frustration on this trip. We are keeping in touch with each other to see what Scenic will offer us for not providing what we had signed up for. Read Less

We have sailed with Scenic once before and our experience was extremely positive, so we decided to take the plunge and do another one. We were not disappointed on any level. We did the Spectacular South of France cruise because this one involved no nighttime cruising, and was a little slower paced in the afternoons for the most part, which appealed to us NEGATIVES: The things that could have been better are few and far between, but there's always room for better. Scenic did our flight arrangements, and we found out a month or two before leaving (after setting it up well in advance), that our flight out of Nice was too early and could not get to the airport in time. To their credit, they did fix it, but it was a little disconcerting to be up in the air (so to speak) for a while. We arrived in Paris, and the next morning took a bus to the train station, and then the high speed train to the Sapphire. It's a little nicer on other cruises to arrive in the embarkation city and be on the ship right away. Can't be helped in this case since there's no large airport in Chalon-sur-Saone where it starts. A couple of the excursions had tour guides who were very slow at finding the English word for explanations, which was a slight hassle. The ship has been redecorated well, but the toilet roll holders are attached with one screw and are all coming loose or tearing from the wall. (Nit picky, I know.) Beer selection is fair, although I kind of fell in love with a french beer, so it really didn't matter. Be prepared to moor with other ships and people walking through your lobby. To be honest, this was minimal, and I could have cared less; just that a lot of people mention that. They all do it. POSITIVES: So the rest of the cruise is great. I'll try to give a feel for what my wife and I experienced. In Paris Scenic put us up at the very posh Westin, in a perfect location. Loved it. The welcoming person was so very nice, and did a very nice informational meeting. The ship is beautiful. All very sleek greys, black, white and silver, with small splashes of color. Sort of an urban chic. Always spotless. Staff members are constantly cleaning and polishing. Sanitizer dispensers are strategically placed, and they asked that everyone use them when entering and leaving the main areas - we like that. There are germs from all over the world on any ship, and that helps a lot. We had one of the "royal" suites, which involves a few extra perks, although any level has perks. No tipping, which is wonderful. You absolutely feel no pressure to tip - wow! Every excursion you choose is included, no extra fees ever. Beer, wine and alcohol are all day and night at no charge. You can relax in the afternoon with a glass of wine without waiting for dinner. We both thought the meals were wonderful. I know some people get huffy over the fact that lunch is a buffet. With only 153 passengers, I don't find that a big deal at all, and there are still menu items at both breakfast and lunch if you don't wish to stand in line for 30 seconds. My wife has some dietary restrictions, and once they caught on, it was wonderful how they catered to her. No gluten or dairy - and the chef even made her three separate desserts for her birthday following those restrictions. That was above and beyond to us. If you don't care for the menu options, at all the meals you could simply order a chicken breast, salmon, rib eye, and a couple others. I had the rib eye one night and my wife had the chicken breast - both were delicious. Service was timely, the wine flowed freely, and the dining room was lovely. The host discussed the wines for the night each evening, so you could choose knowing what you were getting. They weren't the very expensive wines, but excellent medium range wines. If you don't like one, tell the waiter and try another. Can't ask for more than that. Breakfasts were great too, large buffet, and a omelet station. I had the eggs benedict 5 or 6 times it was so good. Fresh fruit always. And the desserts were works of art. Kudos to the staff and chef for the service and quality. Special dinners each night were explained at length by the chef himself, which is a nice touch. I'd like to mention the staff. The butler, Edita, who showed us our suite was so welcoming and efficient. I can't say enough about her service throughout the cruise. Also, our two male butlers than helped us, Dominik and Vladi were practically begging us to give them tasks. And we did, from laundry to ironing to breakfast in the room, etc. All done quickly and so nicely. I had two massages from a young man named Dragan, who also led exercise programs each morning (which we didn't do). He was professional and also fascinating to talk to. Such a nice human being we had great discussions while he worked his wonders on my muscles. Best massage ever, really. The Eastern European people are so genuine, hard working, smart, and family oriented. A breath of fresh air. A young lade, named Sevit, at the front desk went out of her way to help, and give recommendations for visits to towns and shopping. She is also to be congratulated for her wonderful demeanor and knowledge. The cruise director, Eric, was everywhere, putting out fires, making sure things went well on the excursions, etc. Well done. I guess to summarize the staff, superb. I'm running out of superlatives here! Loved the bar staff, and the bartender was great. We did tip some of these staff, although there's no need, but how could we not? The daily life and excursions and entertainment were memorable, filled with culture and history. I'll mention some of the ones we did just to impart a flavor of what they're about: All afternoon and evening the lounge has a very competent piano player named Paolo, which adds a nice touch to the feel. He could play most anything. We went to the town of Beaune and Hospice Hotel Dieu, which was a lesson in history along with a perfectly preserved hospital from the 1400's. The architecture was fabulous, with a colored-tiled roof that is simpy not to be missed. E-bikes were available almost every day, on your own or organized rides. We didn't use them, but friends we made did and thought they were very easy to use and fun. One of my favorite excursions was to a truffle farm, where a family farmer and his dog, Chinook, took us into his truffle trees to hunt. He loved telling us all about the truffles, how they are grown, the dog, everything. This is something special, as opposed to just looking at churches and castles (which also is interesting). His wife then took us into their 16th century farm house and served us truffle butter she made, with wine and bread. This was a gem outing......don't miss it. We ate at the special L'Amour Restaurant on night. Really nicely done with impeccable wait staff. Also ate at the Captain's table, and he was personable and interesting. We didn't do the Table La Rive because we were busy, but heard it was also good. Had a band one night, Krystal Live Band, fun music. Al little schmaltzy, but talented. Went to Cluny where the great Abbey once stood. A part is still there, and the museum with models and explanations helps you understand the grandeur and importance of the place: Largest church in the world until St. Peters was built. Another favorite and highly recommended "Scenic Freechoice" was Medieval Perouges. A walled city very intact, and there's not a corner or nook that isn't ripe for an amazing pose or picture. The tour guide was so very good, and some free time and fun shops. That day we had a silkpainting demo on board in the afternoon. Very interesting. One evening went to the Scenic Rouge Circus Performance for a show and dessert. Lots of young talent and acrobatics. Had a French Paradox Talk, which was fun too. In Tournon we had evening aperatifs after dinner on the terrace of a castle with a panoramic view that was killer. Along with some live music, it was relaxed and delicious. Later was a music quiz that was lively and fun. They really try to keep you entertained if you desire. We picked a trip to Tain L'Hermitage and the Valrhona Chocolate factory one day, which was imformative and who doesn't like taste testing chocolate. Spent a little money there I'm afraid. The chocolatier who gave us the talk was a little long-winded, but the museum there taught me a lot. Two dancers one night" Pierre and Faustine" were so good they almost put dancing with the stars to shame. A delight. The Ardeche Park and Lavender museum was very nice - again, we learned about something we knew little of, and also saw some splendid natural beauty. That night we had a fench female singer who did Edith Pilaf among others, and she had a great sound. We Did the Chateauneuf-du-Pape vinyeard/village tour with wine-tasting. The history was superb, I loved this one, and the wine was so good we ordered some to be shipped home. We didn' do a lot of wine-tasting excursions, but this one was a gem. We toured the Pope's palace in Avignon later that same day. Just look at a couple of their pictures and you'll know it's deserving of it's UNESCO world heritage designation. A different favorite of mine was Pont du Gard and Uzes. If you're at all considering this excursion, look at some pictures of the 2,000 year old aqueduct, and you'll be hooked. The museum there was outstanding also, and the tour guide gave us plenty of time there, per the recommendation of Eric, our tour director. A special evening was dinner at the Pope's Palace. The room was so "important", can't think of the right word, because 5 papal enclaves were held right there in the 1300's. So much history. The food was fancy, but not my favorite, except for the really good pear dessert. They had a string quartet that was as good as any I've ever heard....wow. We went to Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, with a fascinating church, right on the Mediterranean coast. Lots of interesting little shops. Also went to the bird Park, but it started raining and most elected not to go in (including us). That evening was a gypsy show, and they were so much better than I expected. A real treat. Another excursion I would highly recommend was Les Baux-de-Provence and Olive Oil Farm. Baux was a very cool little walled city, picturesque and fun, with lots of fun shops amidst the cobblestoned streets. And the olive farm, once again, was something I knew little about. It is a family business, and has been for many generations, even with their own 14th century private chapel. The process of making the olive oil was so well done, as was the intriguing tasting we did with one of the owner's daughters. Do it. I will say we loved the Scenic Tailormade devices. On one of ours the battery was bad, and they quickly replaced that. The sound was usually very good, except in a very windy situation. You can also take them out on your own when roaming around, and they have a built in GPS that will give you pertinent info on anything you're near. Also, take them around the ship and set to cruise mode, and they alert you to interesting things you're passing on the shore with a history. Once again, I highly recommend Scenic. It's not at all like a huge cruise ship where there are so many stores, restaurants, venues, pools, etc. But that's the charm of a small boat; almost like a temporary community expertly formed and guided by the staff. We met so many fun people. Don't get me wrong, everyone doesn't become friends, but it was easy to make some, and it made the cruise so much better. I'm 63 and there were some a fair amoung younger and quite a few a little older (retired), and a few elderly. I think all ages can enjoy this type of cruise. Of course, motion sickness is no issue here. I have read negative reviews of Scenic. Everyone isn't pleased with the same things, but I feel like with the amazing service and the multitude of choices in entertainment, food and excursions, I can't imagine not having the best of vacations on the Scenic Sapphire. Thank you Scenic for your concept and execution. You are worth the little extra money that one pays as compared to some other river cruise lines. Read Less

We chose Scenic because our friends sailed with this company and everything was included. We attended a seminar and we were impressed with the information. The high water situation was discussed and so we booked in September to avoid the spring rain falls. Before we left on the cruise, we heard rumours of low water levels and scoured the internet for information about cruise interruptions but could not find any. 2 days before we left Canada, we received an email from Scenic saying our ship had been changed to the Amber and further in the email a paragraph "The upper Danube river between Passau and Regensburg is experiencing low water levels and our Cruise Director will keep guests informed of the changing river situation and required cruising amendments." My travel agent called Scenic and was told they knew of no issues with the ships sailing the route. Once we got there, we learned not 1 ship made it all the way along the route since June! We had cancellation insurance and could have rescheduled everything at that point. Scenic would have had their money and we would have had ours. If we had known we were to pack up and change ships twice and spend hours on a bus, we never would have gone on this cruise! Misrepresentation and lies is all we got. As well, on the Rhine gorge portion, you know, where you are supposed to be having a glass of wine and gazing at castles, they put us on a noisy, stinky public ferry. Adding insult to injury, as the ferry ground along, we looked over and a Scenic ship went by. They make it seem like they are doing you a big favour by moving your luggage for you and rearranging the schedule to get as much in as they promised but it is a huge inconvenience to be jumping up early and packing and unpacking to be shuttled on a bus where there are a bunch of people coughing. We both got sick from being cooped up on busses for hours. Don't be fooled by the advertising. More than 1/2 the time we were docked beside another ship, staring into someone else's cabin. The top of the ship is closed a lot as well, to get under the bridges. This route is packed with ships, way too busy. Having said all this, I must add that the facilities on the ships, the food, service and tours were amazing! I only regret I was not offered an opportunity to go at a time I could have enjoyed it to the max. I have been offered an insulting refund amount according to their "cruise guarantee" which I am disputing. They have acknowledged receipt of my letter but have not responded. It's been more than 2 weeks. Read Less

We planned this trip as a Wedding Anniversary and chose Scenic after going to an information session. We were originally supposed to be on the Pearl but changed to Amber a few days before departure. We spent 2 extra days in Budapest, were met at the airport and transported to the Marriott very efficiently. We enjoyed the 'Hop on, hop off' bus to explore this beautiful city. We arrived on the Amber and were warmly greeted by the staff. Our time on the Amber was 5 star + +. Rooms, staff, food, and entertainment were exceptional. Thank you Giovanni, (our butler who I nicknamed 'the flash'), and all the Amber staff. They really made us feel like we were home. Then we had to change to the Jade. Yikes, the staff were Ok, but not nearly as friendly, with the exception of the bar staff, who were cold, verging on rude. I get it, you work really hard on a ship swap day, but don't take it out on the guests. The beds were hard, and I had a sore back for 2 days. I find it difficult to understand why such a reputable company would allow such different standards in customer service between ships. Thankfully we switched to the Ruby for our final days, and we were back to almost 5 star. Beds were more comfortable and staff was, although not quite up to 'Amber' caliber, very good. Entertainment on all 3 ships was excellent, and we enjoyed many nights in party mode after dinner, with all the great guests we met on board. Tours and guides (Eva and Jacop stand out to me), were amazing, in particular, the concert in Vienna, the Sound of Music dinner and the Medieval dinner theater. While I understand the need to swap ship when the river is low, this is not something new, and the process seemed needlessly cumbersome, for example our luggage truck got 'lost' on one swap, really? It seems like the river might be overcrowded and dock space, (and perhaps luggage trucks?), are hard to come by. We went by bus to the Medieval dinner and back, but passed other cruise line ships going up river, and some docked where we were going. Scenic is providing a small refund for the inconvenience which we appreciate. All in all, we loved it and would do it again if we could do it all on the Amber! Read Less

The dates suited and this particular cruise was suggested by the Travel Agent. We thought it would be a good idea to go on the cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam en route to Sweden where were going to a 90th birthday in the Arctic Circle where we hoped to arrived in a relaxed manner - and we certainly did. It was a wonderful way to begin a journey. Everything on the Scenic Jewel was way beyond expectations from the welcome on board, luggage handling, cabin service, tours, entertainment, food and drink, cleanliness and departure. ALL staff without exception were efficient, helpful, thoughtful, courteous and very good humoured. We met some delightful people with whom we had many laughs and many drinks and many wonderful meals. The land excursions were excellent though the listening devices could be improved. The ear pieces tended to fall out of your ear and the sound was often faint and/or broke up. It is difficult to say what the most memorable part of the trip was - it was all so different and interesting. Going through the locks was amazing; the scenery was charming in fact in many ways it often felt as though one were moving gently through a postcard. It was always delightful to go on shore and walk around such interesting and charming places which prior to the trip were essentially names in atlases or novels. Read Less

We chose Scenic because of its reputation and that it was Australian. The guests were a mixture of Aussies (100), Canadians (40) Brits (10) ands two US couples. So, it was mostly a nice "Commonwealth" group. Initially we had to overnight in Budapest at a hotel since no cruise ships were reaching that port. The next day, we were transferred to Vienna by bus where we boarded the Pearl. Some people were not happy, but Scenic handled the situation well. In Passau, we were finally transferred to the Jade, which again went well considering the single day turnover of guests aboard both ships. Our Cruise Director "JJ" was excellent, entertaining, and very knowledgeable. He stayed with us on the full journey. We thoroughly enjoyed this adventure, the onshore excursions which were numerous, the onboard entertainment, gourmet meals at dinner and the great staff on both ships. What a wonderful experience. We would highly recommend Scenic to anyone for a European river boat cruise. Read Less

Ships looked inviting and upon the advice of our travel agent, liked the flexibility of payment plan and the all inclusive feature, nice when you don't require using your credit card too often. Everything was well co-ordinated and our cruise director on the Ruby and Chrystal did an outstanding job. Our cruise had to be deviated due to low water but the extra time and effort taken by Scenic to ensure that our trip was memorable certainly paid off. We had a wonderful experience. All the stops were lovely and each offered a diverse selection that appealed to anyone. Enjoyed the great selection of food and the flair of the country we were in at the time. Staff were warm and pleasant and always willing to help. Ship was kept very clean and inviting. We certainly would recommend travelling on a river cruise and Scenic would be one of our top choices Read Less

we have done all the Scenic European River Cruises at least twice but never the Douro so we were looking forward to it and are very glad that we did - and we will do it again. The crew was exceptional and nothing was too much. Our butler Alexandra was amazing and came up with new ideas to spoil us and make us feel special. Philipe, the cruise director together with Maria, one of the on-ship guides have excellent knowledge about the area and passed it on with great enthusiasm. The ship is the smallest of the Scenic fleet but well appointed, cabin layout makes use of every little space, the balconies provide a lot of privacy and the ship has even got a little pool which was used by a number of people. Local entertainment was well presented and very enjoyable shore excursions were well organised. We had a late departure and the crew made sure, that we were looked after until we left the ship - Thank you all for a wonderful experience! Read Less

Expectations for the money spent was lacking. Food selection was mediocre at best although the quality of most dinners was very good. Breakfast and lunch was the same everyday and not as high quality as expected. Organization for tours was well done and options for excursions was varied. Staff and crew were exceptional. Nightly entertainment was very poor with the exception of staff night. They were entertaining. Could have had some interactive activities that entertained and included the guests. Other guests who have sailed with this line said it was the worst they had ever been on. Sadly it’s the one we picked so nothing to compare too besides the 4 major ocean cruises we’ve experienced. This very expensive trip of a lifetime did not compare to those. Because of low water levels on the Rhine we could not complete our cruise as expected. Unfortunately we were stuck in an industrial port for most of a day and overnight. Thought some sort of excursion could have been arranged. We were a 20 minute ride from a major town and those that choose to go we’re out of pocket for the cost of cabs. Overall the sites we saw and the people we met made this a trip to talk about. We would unfortunately be very leery of trying this again. Read Less

We chose Scenic because of newer ships—rooms bigger and ships lower. They had great reviews as a touring coach company. Our trip was delayed starting out because of storms. Missed our connection in Amsterdam but Delta and Scenic had us covered. We were rebooked on next flight and Scenic still had representative to meet us in Budapest. We even made the evening dinner cruise to see Budapest at night. The next day, Scenic picked up our luggage before we were taken to ship, which turned out to be the sister ship, Jasper. Our room was the same and it was quite comfortable, plenty of storage space and loved balcony sitting area with top of window coming down. Our cruise director was wonderful—he kept us informed, organized, and entertained us! The local entertainment was very enjoyable. The service was outstanding. When Scenic said all inclusive they meant it. No service charges, no drinks charges and no extra excursion charges. The food on board was excellent—especially the specialty meals. Our ports of call and guides at each were great. The voice devices were great! My husband does have very bad hearing and had trouble until we used his own iPhone ear plugs. My hearing aides worked fine with the devices. They even worked as we traveled the Danube. They would beep if there was an interesting place to describe. My husband and I traveled traveled alone, but met so many wonderful people on board. I would go on this trip again! Read Less

I love the Scenic river cruise line. This was my 4th trip with them. I particularly like having everything included such as: all tips even for shore excursions, mini bar, cocktails, coffee & tea anytime, special shore Enrichment events like a concert or Medieval dinner in a castle just for us. You can have an early or late breakfast and there is always something to eat between meals. There is a gentle walk excursion for those that have some mobility issues. This was great for those with walkers, canes etc. I also loved the opportunity to have a laundry bag stuffed full of dirty clothes laundered free of charge once during the trip as it was very hot and we changed clothes a few times a day. A waiter even remembered me and my first name from a cruise I took 2 years ago. Pretty impressive!! The crew on the Jade went out of their way to make our cruise a true hassle free excursion. In short, "What you pay before you start is all you pay". Read Less

On advise from our travel agent and excellent reviews we decided to travel through Europe on a river purpose built vessel and experience this fantastic trip ourselves , booked a year in advance to secure a cabin on deck 3 ,before the actual cruise we booked through Scenic into the Marriott ( outstanding hotel) and the view on the Danube river to give us enough time to explore the city for a couple of days The day of embarkation , smooth and hassle free, disembarkation in Amsterdam likewise with transfers well organised by our outstanding cruise director Patrik . The Ship is what it is , modern and clean with excellent and very professional and friendly staff who do their best to make this a great experience. We didn't use the room service as we preferred to use the dining facilities in the main mess room, that was our choice , my guess is the cabin (333) is fairly compact but well appointed but not great for in cabin dining :-) The set up of these ships , only one dining room to accomodate all passengers for meals and if the bell rings for ' Chow time' people seem to rush down to secure their seats and if you decide to enter a bit later you feel sort of stranded , Scenic try to sort this out by using their Porto Bello area in the main lounge as well , this helps to a certain extend and this should be done every time , and am sure the hotel staff is aware of this . Dining is okay , I am not a complainer by all means, on a scale of 1-10, cannot give it more than 7.5- 8 , their is choice however , but would love the dining degustation experience that was offered to us at the ' Captains Table ' on every occasion and for all guests, as is the Porto Bello fine dining experience . Entertainment , love our pianist Marco Di Napoli Shore activities , out of this world ! Well organised , loved it 100 % Do I want to make another cruise with Scenic ? Probably as a foody and wine lover perhaps France , make no mistake the German and Austrian wines are excellent too. Read Less

Thoroughly enjoyed this cruise [have cruised with Scenic a number of times before] - one of the most picturesque cruises with masses of 'pinch yourself' moments as we passed by amazing landscapes [with perilously steep vineyards everywhere], or exploring the beautiful, charming townships. Each of the excursions off the 'Opal' were supported by local guides who brought to life the medieval beginnings and survival stories of the incredibly unique history/architecture etc of cobblestone streets, castles, churches/cathedrals: always very interesting and educational; with free time to explore these quaint, colourful towns on our own. The ship's Crystal dining room was wonderful, with the added variety and opportunity to experience the six course tasting menu at Table La Rive as well as the Italian cuisine at Portobellos Restaurant - enjoyed the selection of courses, that were delicious, well presented and matched with local wines. Also, most importantly, the professionalism, friendliness and caring consistently on display from the marvellous crew, cabin and dining room staff, who all helped make our cruise so enjoyable. Special mention to the experienced Captain and his team; with extra regards to Alex, our Tour Director, who was always 'on the job' making sure everyone was safe, nurtured and having the best time; always with good humour, lots of laughs and very interesting, educational port talks. So many deserving of our sincere appreciation and thanks - it was a most wonderful, relaxing and happy cruise. Read Less

To experience various historical sites we were not disappointed. The food was plentiful and varied each day. The two special dinners were also a highlight. The chefs were extremely talented loved their specials. The massages were also extremely helpful after swollen feet and ankles. Thank you to Dragon the specialist. Nicholas our tour director went above all expectations. What a character. He was very special and treated all passengers equal. Thank you Nick. We will definitely travel with a Scenic again. Each day there were about three off shore experiences to chose from, very hard to decide. We were glad we chose the truffle experience, the planes, trucks and cars museum and historical Chateau. The under the big top night circus another highlight. The Popes Palace dinner at night not to be missed, what an experience. We loved everything about this cruise. The embarkation went smoothly and the help of all the staff, including the Captains. Thank you for the memories. Read Less

We chose Scenic in part, from a recommendation by our Travel Agent (M. Gaw of Vision Travel) and a local presentation by the company. We wanted a slightly ‘up-scale’ cruise. We liked the idea of a European river cruise to minimize our time in coaches and not having to change hotels every night or two with all that implies. The number of people on the ship was to our liking. It is a group tour done “better”. See fewer countries but at a better pace. This particular cruise fit into our dates available, length of cruise (8 days) with the 3-day Prague extension but also, the trip went to an area we have wanted to explore for some time (Austria/Czech). The flexibility of the included excursions and the availability of E-bikes were an added feature we very much liked. In addition, the help from our travel agent to make sure all the deatils were included and explained along with other factors (early arrival, organization of air travel, etc.), made our confirmation of this choice easy. The use of Marriott hotels at both locations (Budapest and Prague) were great. The whole trip, from the early arrival to departure went extremely smoothly. We were extremely happy with the Scenic Jasper ship but more importantly, in our opinion, the crew were fabulous from the cruise director through the wait staff, were the best. Our cabin was perfect for us. The quality of the food but especially the bar were ‘top-notch’ with real champagne, great domestic and imported wines and a good selection of single malt. Cabin and cruise service(s) were teriffic even if we ‘under-used’ these amenities. We met some very nice and interesting people from around the world and were happy to be on board with other French and English Canadians, people from Great Britian and the USA. The excursion choices were a treat and the ‘guides’ friendly and knowledgeable. Their local knowledge reflected pride in their contries/cities which we very much liked. For the most part, they went out of their way on each excurison to ensure we had a pleasant day. The highlight for us was the Ebike trip but it was over too soon and could use a bit of ‘tweaking’ for a better day. True, we were perhaps too many people in one group (38). It may have been better in two (or more) groups if sufficient guides were available but all in all, we really enjoyed the Ebike tour. One negative for us was the slight rush in between and during the excurisons but we understand that they wanted to cover as much as possible where we would rather see less but spend more time. While we did not travel with children (and none were on board), we would suggest that theis mode of travel would suit kids to broaden their horizons on other cultures. The Prague extension was a treat. While a rough entry to our downtown hotel due to traffic (again the Marriott), once we settled, in it was perfectly situated to explore the old town and all that it has to offer. We would definitely recommend the Prague extension. Except for the (sometimes) ‘sea of humanity’, it was still a fantastic place to visit. As you can expect, we highly recommend this trip and this company and really found little to no fault. We would definitely take another Scenic crusie to explore other areas of Europe but maybe other parts of the world. Read Less
