We usually cruise with Royal Carribean, but this itinerary appealed to us as a way back from a South America trip, so we decided to see what Modern Luxury is all about while wearing our Diamond Plus Royal Caribbean goggles. We have four previous cruises with Celebrity, the first ten years ago, and we thought we knew what to expect. EMBARKATION: Embarkation in San Antonio, Chile, was interesting. It is a commercial port trying to be a cruise terminal. After an hour and a half bus ride from the Santiago airport and checking in at a warehouse near the edge of the port, we were loaded onto yet another bus for a ride to the ship at the dock. We’ve seen better and we’ve seen worse, so we just went with the flow. We were in our cabin by 1:30 PM and our bags were delivered around 4:00 PM. CABIN: The cabin, 7049, was clean and comfortable. With more storage space than we needed – a first. Situated next to the hump cabins, we had an extra large, shaded balcony. The balcony door did not have a handle on the outside, just a slot to grab and pull the door open. The door was hard to open without a handle, but since it was designed that way, we lived with it. The toilet decided not to work in the middle of the night 4 out of the 15 nights on the cruise. Guest Relations said it was a known issue and they were working on it. CREW: Every crew member we encountered was smiling and said good morning or good evening – from restroom attendants to senior officers. Wait staff were attentive and efficient. Whomever is in charge of setting up disembarkation for port days did not do such a good job in Manta - more on that later. DINING: Oceanview Cafe – We disliked the Oceanview Café because it is so crowded with people wandering around trying to assemble a meal that it’s like the “Zombie Apocalypse” - as one fellow passenger described it. There is no clear delineation of flow for the serving lines and people just butt in where they please. We avoided eating meals there. When we did stop in for a snack, we noticed that the wooden chairs needed a good cleaning – there was so much dirt crusted on the back of one chair that I scraped some off to show one of the supervisors and merely received a shrug in response. MDR – We used the MDR for a few breakfasts and lunches just to steer clear of the buffet. A table for two may as well be a table for four, six, eight, or more since they are jammed together so closely that one cannot walk between the table. Service was good and the menu selections standard. We also ate some breakfasts and lunches in the Solarium Café, where it was easy to get a table and the selections were more healthful than other venues. The MDR in the evening was not at all pleasant and we only dined there on 10 of the 15 nights, opting for specialty dining on the other five evenings. The tables are very close and the other diners, probably deaf from the over-amplified music venues, seemed to shout their conversations during the meal. Shouting waiters added to the din. Not at all a pleasant atmosphere. The food, however was very good, well presented, and right-sized portions. Had the food not been so good, we would have avoided the MDR in the evenings because of the noise levels. Specialty dining – We ate in Qsine only once. The Qsine food was delicious but the menu on the electronic tablets was hard to understand and the waiter did little to help explain what was an appetizer and what was a main. Give me a regular menu. Sushi on 5 was wonderful, with a very attentive waiter and a wide variety of sushi to choose from. The Tuscan Grill was our favorite and we ate three evening meals there, and enjoyed a light morning breakfast and specialty coffee drinks there on most mornings. We enjoyed the atmosphere and service of the Specialty Dining venues, especially when compared to the MDR and Oceanview. ENTERTAINMENT: Since this varies from ship to ship, I won’t go into detail. The production shows were very good – but too over-amplified to be pleasant. Earplugs helped. The guest entertainers were also very good and not quite as over-amplified. PORTS: We booked the cruise primarily as transportation back from a land tour in South America, and not for the ports of call. We did walk around in Arica, Chile, and Georgetown, Grand Cayman, but did not book any excursions. The stop in Manta, however, is worth noting. Having been there before, we were undecided about going into town for a look around. The ship announced that free shuttle buses would be provided from the ship to the town center/shopping area. After the announcement was made that the gangway was open, we went down to the promenade deck to see how long the line for the shuttles was and determine if we should wait a while. There was no line – only a large mob of approximately 250-300 people waiting for the yet-to-appear shuttle buses. Celebrity did nothing to establish or control a line. When the first shuttle bus arrived, the mob surged and all 300 people tried to get on the first bus. We saw a fight breakout at the steps to the bus and one man trying to pull another man off the second step of the bus. At that point I ran down to Guest Relations and told them they needed to get security out there and that one fight had already broken out. I went back outside to the promenade to watch the most unorganized shuttle bus system I had ever witnessed. We decided to avoid the melee and have a peaceful day on the ship. One would think that Celebrity had never organized a port day or a shuttle bus system before. It was certainly a poor example of Modern Luxury. CHAIR HOGS: The Infinity made a feeble attempt to cut down on chair hogs with a few little folded placards placed on the pool and solarium loungers in the mornings, however with no enforcement, the chair hogs just pushed the placards aside and set up camp. I witnessed chair hogs “reserving” loungers and sunbeds as early as 6:00 AM, using a variety of towels, flip flops, magazines, paperbacks, and large plastic clips to hold the towels in place. Often those same loungers were “reserved” hours later – and on port days “reserved” all day long until the hogs returned from their excursions. Not once did I see any of the pool staff removing the chair hog nests. With no enforcement in place, more and more people started “reserving” loungers and sunbeds. Another poor example of Modern Luxury. DISEMBARKATION: Disembarkation from the ship in Fort Lauderdale was well organized, until we reached the Customs and Immigration lines. There were four agents to process some 2,100 passengers. Signs for “US and non-US” were not apparent and there was insufficient line management so that yet another mob formed adjacent to the bag retrieval area. We settled down in some chairs to wait out the mob, and only later discovered the mob was trying to get through the “Non-US” lines and the “US” line was almost empty. We gathered our bags and were through the immigration check in under 10 minutes – happily leaving the growing “Non-US” mob to be processed by only two agents. No wonder the Fort Lauderdale port has such a bad reputation on Cruise Critic. CONCLUSION: After watching Royal Caribbean turn into floating county fairs, and with Celebrity losing their “premium” luster to the mass market, it’s time to expand our horizons and find cruise lines that cater to grownups and offer a more genteel way to cruise. Usually really enjoy Celebrity cruises but this one was just average. The worst part was that the ship got the norovirus and lots of things changed because of this. There were a lot of sick people. They had to starting serving in the buffet instead of people serving themselves. There were taking extra precautions in sanitizing the ship...all the things they should have been doing from the beginning so people did not get sick. The entertainment was good for the most part. Since it was a repositioning cruise there were a lot of days at sea and they could have had more activities during the days at sea and a wider selection instead of the same things over and over. Going through the Panama Canal was amazing and well worth it if you have the chance. The staff was all very nice. Some of the shore excursions were good and some not what they advertised they were. When we complained about one, they offered a 10% credit!! The embarkation process was really awful...stood in line for 1 1/2 hours to be checked in. Since this was a South America cruise, they could have had more South American food, entertainment and music. Read Less

I booked this cruise because I was told that we would be going through the New Canal but we did not. I would not have gone because it was my third time through the Panama and one of the other times was on the Infinity also, the Blu restraunt is a very nice change from the large dining room, it is quieter and more relaxed service. We where in Aqua class cabin 9049 which has some noise issues no carpeting so you can hear walking over head and movement of chaiselounges in late night hours and early morning becauseit is under the solarium. The chef's table was a great experience well worth the up charge. The food and service was the high light of the cruise. The main Infinity shows entertainment was good but it was the same shows we had on the Millennium cruise to Alaska in June so it would have been nice to have something different. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it started in one place and ended in a different place. We spent a week in Chile prior to embarkation, and had a wonderful experience there. We had never been to South America before and wanted to get to know it, at least in a small way. In all, we were pleasantly surprised. Embarkation and disembarkation went very smoothly... no lines of any significance. Timing is everything regarding embarkation. The ship was nice... well appointed and comfortable. The cabin was spacious... plenty of room for storage and living space.... the veranda was sufficiently large. Our cabin attendant was attentive and very efficient.... friendly as well. The food service people were also very attentive and helpful. However, the food itself left room for improvement. We did no specialty dining, only buffet and MDR. We only did the MDR twice.... it just wasn't up to what we had experienced on other cruises... RCL & NCL. We liked the rooftop terrace.... the movies were good. Entertainment was mixed.... better entertainment on other cruises. The "production" shows were very good, the individual entertainers were mixed. Luigi, the cruise director, was great. Gina was good with the trivia activities. We especially enjoyed various tastings given by Toby from Manchester in Cellar Masters.... his knowledge and presentations were great. The spa was good.... we got a subscription to the Persian Gardens and liked it very much! The shore excursions we took were well organized. The time we had in each port was too limited. We really enjoyed the Panama Canal.... crossing the equator... not so much. We had crossed it before.... but at 35,000 feet. The ship provided a lot of background on the Panama Canal, which made it more meaningful. A real positive was not being hounded by the ship's photography department... we really appreciated that! One last thing.... don't expect towel animals. And, this ship is not oriented for youngsters... no waterpark, no slide, etc. The average age for this cruise was in the 70's.... we felt young. This trip was chosen because of its itinerary and starting point in Valparaiso, Chile. We upgraded to the highest balcony level but room 7112 was very tiny although the location was great. Really hard for two people to share the room, barely space to pass by each other at the foot of the bed. Next time we'll go Concierge Class to a slightly bigger space. The public spaces on this ship have been remodeled at some recent point and are spacious and lovely. Lots of spots to sit and look out at the beautiful ocean and fun ports. We especially loved Cafe al Bacio because the baristas have been well-trained and they pull terrific espressos and cappuccino drinks. Not so for any of the ports we visited in places that supposedly have great coffee. Embarkation was smooth and easy, but it took a long time and disembarkation was not well-organized. The cruise line lost a bottle of Pisco we bought in Chile that they were keeping for us. We will get a refund but it's not the same to buy it here in the US! The cruise director on this ship was Luigi, a young guy from the Dominican Republic with huge amounts of energy and charm. Everyone was encountered was friendly and helpful, and we even interacted a couple of times with senior staff who were delightful. Entertainment all 14 nights was excellent, with great singers, an unusual ventriloquist who was not what one expected, and a fabulous show on the last night. The one group we didn't like was a Canadian couple who had performed with Cirque de Soleil and did physical comedy that fell flat with this group. As for the ports: Arica, Chile is very small and poor, but the tour we went on, Taste of Arica, was actually fun. However, since there were 40 people and one guide, we definitely should have had little headsets so we could hear what she had to say. The tasting part came all at the end and we enjoyed mango and passion fruit juice, olive paste, some different cheeses, and jams. I would have loved to try things in the market as there were so many unusual and different foods we do not have in the US. Manta, Ecuador was also small and the tour of the Panama Hats workshops (all in the basement of people's houses; you'd never know they are there) was very interesting. We were told the cruise line doesn't have many options in some of these countries - if they want to stop, they pay hefty amounts and the countries think some of the small cities should get the benefit of cruise ships and tours. In Manta with the exception of watching the demonstration of hats and the making of jute bags, there was nothing else to do or see as there really is no city center, per se. I would have preferred a different port. Lima, Peru, and Cartagena, Colombia were both fun places to visit: lively, great food, interesting sights and we enjoyed two private tours with Viator. Colon is rather unattractive and not a place to linger - so we were glad to be on a tour of the beautiful colonial part of the city, to see the ruins from Captain Henry Morgan, and even to drive around the new Panama with all its skyscrapers. It's amazing that all of these towns had lots of traffic at all hours! Wish we could have docked in Panama City rather than Colon. Going through the Panama Canal was awesome - we were in front of the helipad at 6:30am and stood there for a couple of hours, spellbound. It was also beautiful cruising on the lake between the locks. This was our first celebrity cruise and we selected it for the itinerary as we were planning a short visit to Chile. We spent time in Santiago, Valparaiso and Vina Del Mar before embarkation. The boarding process in Valparaiso was a bit confusing for our driver to find the correct gate. The main port and ship were much farther west than the port entrance. Once in the building we found a very short Aqua Class line and spend through checkin. We were very impressed by the cabin and our steward Noel. Daily canapes and iced tea were a nice afternoon touch. Infinity was in very nice shape. She is older and there is some rust, stains and worn areas. Throughout the cruise we saw staff repainting, cleaning and varnishing hand rails. They work hard to keep her in good shape. We enjoyed the common areas, theater and lounges. Again the staff is exceptional and makes you feel welcome, especially at the Oceanview bar. The buffet was fine for breakfast but dinner and lunch seemed too similar. We enjoyed the food but nothing was amazing. Blu was a wonderful dining experience. The setting and presentation of food were interesting and the meals were very good. We tried several enrichment lectures, games and trivia and found the staff eager to please and make sure we were having fun. There are also plenty of areas to relax and read or nap. With 7 sea days they had a lot of entertaining to do. Port visits were nice with some towns like Lima and Cartagena being excellent. We only took one Celebrity tour in Panama and it was fine. The Panama Canal was the highlight for me. I spent the whole day wandering and photographing. The narration provided by a guest speaker was ok but not available all through the ship. If you do the canal watch the first locks from your room or an aft area as the prime spots all fill up quickly. After the first set of locks many loose interest and the top deck, helo pad and other prime spots are wide open. We like this medium size ship and enjoyed our cruise with Celebrity. I can't speak for how it was better in the past but the staff makes everyone feel welcome and the ship is just fine. Read Less

We had previously cruised from Buenos Aires to Valpariso and were trying to complete the circle and cross the Equator by sea. Our cruises have mostly been with Celelbrity, RCL and Azamara but we have noticed a considerable drop in the quality of the food served. For example, on a cruise in hot climes one would not expect to have stewed meat on the menu every day in the Oceanview and they appear to be going for cheaper cuts than before. So far as the cabin was concerned, It was disappointng to have a duvet cover with an obvious tear in it and we were surprised the steward didn't notice it and change it. The cleanliness of our cabin was definitely not up to standard - I ran my finger over the top of the base of the bedside lamps and it was thick with dust and whilst I do not expect the carpets to be hoovered every day as I know these guys have a limited time to do everything but I think 3 dys without hoovering is bit too long and the reason I know this is because the bits I saw on the carpets did not disappear until after the 3rd day. Generally speaking I would say Celebrity are not the cruise company they used to be and are simply out to wring every penny out of its guests but I think they are probably not any different from any other cruise company. . . This was a memorable cruise after completing our two week journey in Peru and Chile . My husband and I chose to discover Machu Picchu on our own prior to embarcation in Valparaiso. When we arrived at the port on embarkation day prepared to receive our seapass with our stateroom information in aqua class we soon realized we were upgraded to a Ski Suite , we were overjoyed , surprised , elated and ready for our South American / Panama Canal crusing experience. We really enjoyed the Luminae restaurant . The portions were spot on perfect , delicious and many varieties to choose from at breakfast , lunch and dinner . We did not take advantage enough of Micheals Club , another great relaxing area to meet great people . The entertainment was very good as well . What we really enjoyed with our new friends were the Silent Disco nights . Read Less

We found this cruise allowed us to see places we wouldn't normally be able to see. We went to the Atacama Desert, the driest place on Earth.we also were in the heat and humidity of equatorial countries. The diversity was great ! On board we were very pleased with the alternative restaurants. The Tuscan Grill provided homemade pasta, incredibly delicious steak, and delicious seafood. Sushi on 5 was excellent ! The service was attentive, and recommended dishes were great ! We loved going to Qsine, a dining experience all of its own. It was fun, inventive, and a wonderful way to try a variety of unique dishes. The Trellis Diningroom provided a delicious variety of options every night. The service was excellent In all of the dining venues ! We took advantage of the classes on using iPhones and iPads . They were offered on sea days, and gave great tips on using different apps and helped you get the most out of your camera and editing tools. Classes in cooking, dancing, painting, and much more were also available. It was a really fun and interesting cruise . Read Less

Fascinating places, great on board service, good excursions! Interesting mix of passengers with around 50% being Spanish speaking only! Good cabin with great balcony, ideal for viewing the transit through the Panama Canal at close quarters. Would recommend this cruise. Food was good in all resteraunts, Quiisine was definitely a strange experience with too much food but it was great entertainment. Our waiter Osman in the Trellis dining room was exceptionally courteous and helpful. He did everything to accommodate our need and the needs of the other 4 diners at our table. The Colombian wine waiter (Fernando?) was very knowledgable and always had a smile for us! The young assistant waiter was very attentive. The entertainment was good especially Antonio Salci the pianist and resident band fantastic. Karen Grainger the singer / impressionist provided an entertaining show as did the Celebrity singers and dancers. We enjoyed our holiday very much. Read Less

This was a repositioning cruise so although there were no other cost saving perks enticing us to book the initial price was attractive and the locations traveled to irrisitable. Having a chance to see Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Columbia and Panama was a chance not to be missed. We have enjoyed a Celebrity Cruise once in the past and very much enjoyed it - this one was just as good. Fantastic food/drink, service from a friendly but unobtrusive staff, and luxurious accommodations made it once again a wonderful vacation. The restaurant served varied and very tasty gourmet meals and the buffet was a delicious option for casual eating as well. Our room was looked after by Elmer from the Philippines and amongst others Krishna, Nester provided us with excellent personalized service at various bars. The room was comfortable, spotless, and we spent many hours enjoying the sun and views from our balcony. We highly recommend Celebrity Cruises. Read Less

Had only been on a 3-day cruise years ago so this was a big cup hangs for me. Went with 5 girlfriends and we had a wonderful time. I want to mention we arrived in Santiago a day early and used that time to tour Santiago. The next day we toured in route to Valparaiso and in that city itself too as we did not board until after 3 pm. I highly recommend our guide and his team, Thomas Poussard www.chileprivatetours.com +56-9-81724441 Not only were we met at the airport, he took care of our luggage, got us to our hotel and after a brief break we started our tour. Thomas is fluent in English, French and Spanish..and I believe he speaks other languages as well. His driver, Jorge, a Chilean, was also excellent and safe. Thomas did an excellent job in selecting highlights for us to tour in Santiago, adjusted to our physical limitations as not all of us could do a lot of walking. I will use his Company again when I return to Chile. Back to Celebrity, this ship,is small compared to many, about 2100 passengers, and yet provides all the amenities you would expect. I could not have been happier with this second experience. The crew/staff were all, without exception, positive smiling people. Everyone wanted to be sure all of us were happy and well. I enjoyed the food and tried all the fare included restaurants, plus the Bistro on Five which was a nice change and not pricey. I like to do a water workout in the pool so was quite happy there was ample room for me each morning along with those who chose to do laps. The cruise director, Eddy, was and is a genuinely nice person who was always upbeat and available. His entertainment offerings were varied and I think covered many passengers likes. The resident musicians were outstanding and I don't say that lightly. This experience convinced me I want to do more cruising! Read Less

Our cruise on the Celebrity Infinity was from Valparaiso cruising Northward seeing South America, Panamagg Canal and ending in Ft Lauderdale. Let me discuss some of the pre-cruise events. Our flight to Santiago was uneventful with the airport recovering from the 2010 earthquake which significantly damaged the International airport. Our private tour guides, Sergio and Annaliese from Perfect Day tours where perfect hosts and gave us a customized tour of Vineyards, Isla Negra, Vina Del Mar and dropped us off in our Valparaiso B&B called Hostel Morgan. The B&B was reasonable, in a fun area with many food options but a bit noisy at night. Thankfully, we had earplugs! Embarkation was easy and reasonably efficient. The cab was 8,000 pesos which included 2,000 peso tip. While most of the ports of call were arranged using private excursions (all amazing), we did arrange two Celebrity tours with Celebrity. The full day tour to the Altiplano from the port of Arica was amazing with Llamas, Guanacos, Vincunas, Alpakas, and Chilean Flamingos. The guide was informative and fun. The next port excursion with Celebrity from Pisco to the Ballestra Isle which also had great views of bird and sea animals but the trip was delayed with a late arrival of our boat. Leaving less time for wildlife. The Celebrity Infinity staff welcomed us onboard. The crew needed a long time to clean and sanitize any ship based in South American typically struggle to control Noro that's brought in from SA ports. They did keep us comfortable in the buffet until our rooms were ready at 4pm. Our stateroom was clean and in good order except for a broken telephone which we reported to our stewards when they came to meet us. The Celebrity Infinity main dining room service was excellent and the staff was top-notch. Our food was as good or better than other cruise lines we have used (HAL and NCL). The at sea teaching classes were also good providing good information and background on the upcoming ports and culture of the ports/countries that we would visit. However, the entertainment onboard was poor and wasn't appropriate for a South American cruise. Seeing poor Broadway shows and performers from everywhere but South America was disappointing. On other cruise lines, when we would pull into a port, they would have periodically have culturally relevant shows (e.g., in Scotland on a 2013 cruise, we had Scottish Bagpipers and on a trip with a port call in Istanbul, we had a Turkish dancers). The entertainment was unimaginative and inappropriate with some singers who were off-key. I've seen High School musicals which showed more imagination. We used one shore excursion from the ship and it was delayed (with our group losing an hour waiting for a boat and guide). Very upset cruisers who had to stand in the sun for an hour by the pier waiting. My phone voice mail system wasn't operational for the entire cruise which hampered our Cruise Critic groups from getting together or updating tour. We called repeatedly throughout the two-week cruise and finally got a senior staff member who indicated that "it's a French voicemail system and we've been having issues with it". However, I would not that after noting this on a comment card, they gave us some onboard credit (so at least they finally tried to provide restitution for our inconvenience). I'll likely not use Celebrity in the future based on price/ value but did enjoy the South American ports and Panama Canal. Read Less

We have waited until now to file our review on the infinity cruise mar 15-29 valpariso to fll. we had hoped our experience was unique to the crew and circumstances we encountered. not so most of reviews to date are not so nice. we also waited to see if celebrity would respond to our harsh feedback. nothing. we might as well be first time cruisers. In actuality we are Elite Plus having sailed with Celebrity on over 19 cruises First the positive our 5 day precruise to machu pichu was fantastic, but that was handled by lima tours, the subcontractor. The aqua class food and service has improved from our last aq experience on the reflection. Ships condition was fair considering it is old. Ship’s theatrical productions have suffered with second stringers and lots of recorded music accompaniment, even with musicians at the back of the stage. Ports – given this was a basically a repositioning cruise, the ports were mostly “b minus”. the western coast of south america is barren desert so one starts with this negative. highlights were pisco “naca lines”; cartegena ; panama canal. we were fortunate to do lima on our precruise since the lima port stop callao was cancelled. Lima for us was a wonderful city with lots of gastro food delights and historic sights. Next the NEGATIVE First our background. until the last three cruises, we have been loyal pax and enjoyed the celebrity experience. prior to this cruise we started to see erosion of the celebrity product. on the infiinty we were astounded by the severe drop in service and product. the following is a list of the “issues” we encountered that has us moving on to other cruise lines. item a: as a past officer for a major aerospace company, involved with safety, i was appalled at the lack of interest and spontaneity, that the guest relations staff approached my alert that the bathroom mirror heater was over heating. radiant heat from the heater was heating my hands 15 inches from the mirror ( like a fireplace) this caused the hvac to strain. i was concerned an overheat/fire hazard was very possible so i took three steps 1 told room attendant (result no action overnight) ,2 called guest relations (no action the next day) then3) called again with a threat to get someone fired. after the third harsh telephone conversation (20 hours later), an electrician was dispatched. bottom line i do not feel celebrity gave the attention this event deserved. forget the customer service, maybe a safety issue was worthy of a look? item b: failure of telephone system for several days. No voicemail. Important to us this trip since we were independent tour leaders. item c: failure by celebrity at the port of manta to secure adequate bus transport from ship to outside gate -- only two buses for 400 people and then some of the buses delivered people to the wrong drop off location casuing havoc for me personally. item d: lost laundry it took 3 days to establish 4 pieces of laundry confirmed lost and then i was offered a small portion of the value of the new clothing. item e: at the elite captains club party we were in line for the intro to the captain. all of a sudden, we were scooted out of line with others, basically given the bum's rush. No apology or reason for change. Item f after informed of issues, guest relations made an offer for future cruise funds as compensation, then retracted i!. Anyway woefully small amount. the next level guest relations rep really had no authority to compensate. As other reviewers have stated there was a lot of sickness on the ship, both gastro and upper respiratory. yet oceanview café was still letting pax serve themselves with serving spoons. . Read Less

The ship is looking a bit tired in parts but it is now 14 years old and celebrity are doing well in keeping it looking good. I just wish they did not try ans squeeze in so many alternative premium dining venues. A lot of the nice touches seem to be disappearing: chocolate on the pillow, nice towels on the con. cabins etc. The entertainment shows I would describe as adequate. The biggest let down on this cruise was the ports. Pisco instead of Lima. Nothing to see in Manta. the weather did nit help but one can not blame Celebrity for that. The cruise was saved by the excellent enrichment speakers especially Milo. Read Less

This was a great trip! We must add that meeting other Cruise Critic members really "made" the trip. We cannot encourage enough that you should use this service to meet and learn from others. The Infinity was just done over to bring it in line with the Solstice ships. The updates have certainly helped, but the ship still is not as quite as physically nice the new ones. With that said, this ship offers a wonderful experience to all that cruise on it. The staff is caring, and obviously well trained. Celebrity must treat them very well, as they are, almost to a man (or woman), happy to be working on the ship and for the line. I have on some of the other reviews some negatives about the food compared to the past. In my opinion, lots of folks think everything was better in the past. This ship offered way above average food. Was every meal a five star selection? No, of course not. Nor did we pay for five star food. We didn't see anyone that look emaciated, but rather most were just the opposite. The cruise gave us an opportunity to meet and see interesting places with interesting and nice people. Our cabin (lucky for us was a family room), was well serviced by well trained and super nice guys. The shows on board were fun. The entertainment director was the best we have seen on a cruise. The dining room staff, as well as the specialty restaurants staffs, actually made you feel like you were a guest. For those who enjoy laying out at the pool, there is a problem. The problem is that some guests have no consideration of others, and hog the lounges all day. This is not the ship's fault, and maybe some will learn better manners. Oh, kudos to the guys at the martini bar. Great fun to have them serve the drinks. Some of the boxes that needed to be checked really don't apply to this cruise. We have come as close as we can to answering them. Read Less
