We cruised with Silversea twice previously and felt it somewhat comparable to Regent. However, those cruises were more than 5 years ago and having having been on a Regent cruise in December 2018, we can definitely say there is no comparison. The Silver Wind is long, long overdue for an overhaul. We paid for the Owner’s Suite and it was worn and sadly out of date. Not the “luxury” one would expect for the hefty price tag. Also, the Owner’s Suite is on deck seven, directly below active part of the pool deck. There is constant scraping of chairs during the day and into evening hours. Don’t expect a quick nap. And the workers start moving chairs at around 5:30 to 6:00 am. Customer service claimed that no one had complained before and some people have greater sensitivity. Really? It was annoying at best and believe me it was loud. We were accommodated with a lower level room as a “day suite” which helped if one really wanted to take a nap, but when you pay for an Owner’s Suite you would like to reside in it. We tried repeatedly to stay a full night in our suite after constantly alerting management to the problem and being assured that the workers were told not to move chairs in the early hours. Inevitably we put on our robes and headed to the “day suite” at 6 am. The quality of the food and dining venues were adequate, but nothing outstanding. Though the waiters and staff in the restaurants and bars were marvelous. In fact the staff as a whole was excellent. The cruise director, Colin, went above and beyond expectations. We also thought that the entertainment was quite good. Now the warning to disabled cruisers My husband uses a wheelchair, though on a cruise we rent a scooter. Our travel agent made inquiries with SilverSea to ensure that the suite could accommodate a scooter (door width, space in the room, angle of the door to the hallway, etc.). We also fully anticipated ports with tenders in which my husband would stay aboard. What we did not expect and did not receive any alerts from SilverSea in spite of their full knowledge of my husband’s disability was the embarkation and disembarkation process. Access on and off the ship was only by a steep stairway with approximately 50 steps. In order to get aboard, my husband was carried in a chair by four men. Not only was this dangerous in my opinion, but my husband was extremely embarrassed by the process. An additional note for disabled passengers: the ramp at the door way to the pool deck is not particularly wide and there is no elevator to the spa level. In spite of the staff, which was the only thing that saved this cruise, we will not be sailing with SilverSea again. Read Less

Since I'm not a total pessimist, let me start with the positives: - The majority of the crew was fantastic (outside of some rude guest service folks at night). - The musical entertainment throughout the ship was solid, and so were the magician and comedian. - Loved the ports and the shore excursions that we went on (Diamond Falls in St. Lucia, beach break in Barbados, lobster cruise in Antigua, and remote beach day in Tortola). - Embarkation was extremely efficient. - The freestyle dining option was much better than my dining experience on other cruises (Carnival and Royal Caribbean). Now onto the less appealing parts of the trip: - The ship is definitely older and a bit of a maze to get around. - I noticed the rocking more on the Dawn than on other ships I have been on. - Disembarkation was fast, but our travel service to the airport was not available since we disembarked so early, so we ended up taking a taxi to the airport. - Service on the pool decks and at some of the bars was sub-par due to a lack of staff. Some of the bartenders weren't super friendly either. - We used the laundry service, and they ruined a pair of my board shorts. Full disclosure, guest service didn't charge us for the service and provided a $25 credit. ** Now for the low-light of the trip, our horrible room. It was obvious on the first day we arrived that the AC was not working and had not been working, yet they kept us in the room (maybe hoping we wouldn't mind). Not to mention, there was an odd, almost sewage like smell in the room. We called maintenance immediately and they came to fix it the first time. We left assuming it would be better when we came back...it was not. Called again, and the same situation. Keep in mind no updates are being provided. A couple days later. we come to find out from our room steward that the room above us had overflow issues which obviously zapped the electrical service in our room since the AC, the bathroom fan and several of our lights were shot. Rather than providing us with a new room (not even asking for an upgrade). They kept going on with this circus for 4 days. Finally, I was so fed up with sweating every night in bed that i asked for a fan. Miraculously, a downgraded room had opened up that day for us to sleep in (highly unlikely that it wasn't there the whole time). Guest service did adjust our service charges for the trip to attempt to right the wrong, but it was too little much too late. In summary, this trip left such a sour taste in my mouth that I highly doubt I will ever cruise with Norwegian again. I also will not be recommending them to anymore friends or family. This trip was embarrassing enough since we suggested it to our two friends who were first time cruisers. Read Less

Going to start with the Positive; the Veranda suite we got was very nice about 183 sq ft a bit small but worked, we enjoyed going out on the Veranda every morning and watching the ship come up to the Ports, even had breakfast once on the Veranda. Our Steward was excellent, room was always clean and comfortable. The specialty Restaurant La Cusina was very good loved the food at this restaurant. Spa and Spa Treatments were Excellent.Boarding was fast and easy as well as Disembarking. The whole Family had a great time together! Now for the negative; The Buffet was bad runny eggs, old Desserts, nasty dressings, old brown salad lettuce about the only thing that was good was the omelette station, oatmeal, fruit and the oxtail stew! As far as the Specialty Resturants both the Steak house and the Le Bistro was bad. The filet mignon at the steak house was good but the sides were old, potatoes gratin were hard and smelled of fish and the molten lava cake was Chalky with no lava! In Le Bistro I ordered the veal and it wasn’t veal but pork chucks not good. In the pool area there was never any seats opened and the music was blasting so loud you didn’t want to stay anyway. It was dirty with cups, dirty plates and dirty towels everywhere. The front desk Employees were rude and so were the employees in the Venetian Restaurant and the food was also not good in the main dinning room as well, the good thing is I didn’t gain any weight on this Cruise.I think the Employees are burnt out and over worked so I could see how difficult it could be for them, this is a issue I think Norwegian should address. This ship just went through a remolding but the Verandas had a lot of rust . I did book another Cruise with Viking Sky for 2020 hopefully on this smaller ship the Vacation will be Awwsome and will give me the confidence to book more Cruise in the future but as far as the Norwegian I will not be rebooking anymore Cruises. We have cruised on many of the cruise lines taking at least one cruise a year. This year we chose to try Norwegian. With the many choices out there Norwegian would not be my choice again. The services was not as expected on a cruise the food at the buffet was barely warm and not refilled. They couldn’t seem to keep up and when I asked for tarter sauce for fish 3 people asked each other but it never came. They were out of coffee and cream at 7:30 in the morning! How does this happen! the service in the specialty Bistro French restaurant was more than disappointing. When your paying extra for a specialty restaurant you expect the service to be on point. Ours was horrible as was the table of 4 next to us. We loved the mojitos in the sugar cane bar but it was only open from 5:30 to 10:30pm. The drinks at all the other bars were hit or miss you never got the same drink made the same twice. Our suite was on the 11th floor just under the buffet, you could hear tables and chairs being dragged very early in the morning and at night. Our room steward was wonderful but the rest of the staff was not accommodating at all and customer service and reservations desks were horrible. Customer Service on Norwegian leaves a lot to be desired. I will say the entertainment was very good. The only problem was they changed the show times almost every night so it was difficult to make dinner reservations in advance in order to make the shows and trying to change a reservation in a specialty restaurant in order to make a show was impossible. Overall Norwegian needs to understand there are too many choices to be so lax with customer service Read Less

Our cruise started in San Juan. It was delightful town and the ocean was absolutely beautiful. They are still trying to recover from recent hurricane. The embarkation and disembarkation process was quick and flawless. The cruise itinerary was incredible. (It was so nice to get out of the snow and experience 85 degree weather.) The major disappointment was the food. We went to each of the private dining rooms as well as the buffet. The only meal I really enjoyed on the ship was in the Asian dining room. During a cruise with NCL 15 years ago they had a midnight buffet that was full of seafood as well as seafood at the dress up dining rooms. We did not enjoy a single night of seafood on the entire cruise other than an appetizer of the smallest possible crab on a bed of lettuce for lunch one day. The next night I ordered a Lava Cake which was die for on another cruise line. It was terrible like most of the food. One of our guests decided to stick with steaks as this would be hard to mess up. DON'T YOU GO ON A CRUISE TO EXPERIENCE INCREDIBLE FOOD? Our room was booked by the ship on the 8th floor directly underneath the Bliss. The music started at 9 PM and usually went way past midnight. We complained each night but they offered no resolution other than to tell us the volume of the music would die down after midnight when the band quit and a DJ started. The entertainment was good, especially the ventriloquist and the magician. Recommendation: Don't book this ship if you are expecting a wonderful dining experience. Read Less

They have one of the best itineraries in the Caribbean - 11 days South Caribbean with only 1 day at sea. Embarkation and disembarkation was very good organized. Some crew employees are unhappy and sometimes it transpired making the service very poor. Food is not as good as other cruise lines we have travel with. During the Shore Excursion presentation in the first day, the manager of this department used the words "drama," "people crying," "I always have a box of tissues on the excursion desk for the people's sadness" and others, when referring to his passengers/clients. Cruise Director was not as present as in other cruise lines we have been. NCL may have issues in their leadership team, recruiting practices and/or the way their employees are treated. Ship was clean, balcony stateroom was ample and bathroom was really well designed with slider door in the shower and toilet room. Evening entertainment functions in the theater were superb. Musicals, magician, comedians, juggler and the cruise dancers and singers. We went on eight excursions organized by NCL because we have a credit towards shore excursions that made these excursions way cheaper then on our own. Five of them were over booked, some didn't even have seats for all the group, again poor client experience and bad service. The other three were very good (Best of Aruba, Double Deep Snorkel in Bonaire and Between the Pitons in St. Lucia.) I would recommend the itinerary but not the cruise line NCL. Read Less

Checking in an leaving the Ship was the best we’ve seen. Entertainment was ok nothing to write about. Hot tubes were always crowded. Buffet food was the same thing EVERYDAY No seafood night like other NCL lines we’ve been on. Also couldn’t hear the loud speakers from our room. The staff was definitely friendly an helpful. It would have been nice to have longer days at the ports. Leaving one island at 1:30 was pushing it if you had an Excursion. We had a balcony cabin-there was only one 110V outlet in the entire cabin. We played the plug in the shaver, 2 phones, 2 watches, iPod, iPad game to try to keep things charged. Bring a multi outlet splitter if you have devices. The entertainment is hit and miss - Elements show was excellent. There were several times where the concept of running a good business and keeping customers happy, just didn't make sense. For ex. we had the drink plan-but we chose to take two bottles of special reserve wine. The wine was confiscated and a $15 corkage ransom was demanded. We pointed out that their wine was already paid for with the plan and if we drank our wine, we wouldn't drink theirs. In the end we drank LOTS of their wine and just had our two bottles returned at the end of the trip...wonder what genius thought this was a good idea. We tried unsuccessfully to get reservations at Los Lobos and finally stopped by to just have appetizers. The bar was completely empty but they said they don't serve food at the bar. The food at the Garden cafe was the same almost every day & the bread was stale. Ice cream only from 5-10! The decorum in the Aqua and especially the Venetian was that if you don't have to dress, you can clearly carry on like you are at McDonalds. Kids were screaming and running around and the noise level was not what we expected in the formal dining room. Le Bistro and Cagneys were very, very good. Moderno's was a waste of money. They came by only one time on rotation and the quality was not what we expected. No free Yoga on ship- pay if you want to participate. The crew was the highlight...there were some standouts El Marie in Gatsbys and the lovely dancing hand washing guy. Norwegian can do much better! Me, my husband and two daughters (age 19 and 20) cruised over the Christmas holiday with a group of friends. All together, we were 18 in our group. We selected the Norwegian Dawn because of the ports of call. In summary, this cruise featured: * Friendly staff who remembered my name and greeted me with a smile * Clean rooms and common areas * Lots of entertainment options * Easy on/off the ship at ports of call Now for the areas for improvement: * Food was not so good. Whether eating at the buffet or at the dining room, the food was basically the same everywhere. For example, you could find the same french toast at the buffet and at the dining room. The only difference is at the buffet you will fight the crowds to get your food and find a table. Most of the food was lacking in flavor - even pasta dishes seemed to have no taste whatsoever. By the end of the cruise, we were all so tired of the food. * Juice bar was awful and cost extra - my husband ordered and paid extra for a fresh squeezed orange juice. He couldn't drink it - it was so awful. * Coffee bar with speciality coffee drinks was just average and also cost extra $$. * Elevators were always packed and so slow. We often took the stairs which was good exercise. * The St. Lucia beach excursion was about $70/pp and was basically a ride to a small beach, free chairs and free use of the rest room. The umbrella rental was an extra $20. When we got on the bus to the beach, the tour guide seemed rude and unfriendly. The beach had locals selling things and they were quite pushy. They would not take "no" for an answer and became angry when we declined to buy their products/services. I do not recommend this excursion. You are better off to take a local taxi to a beach for $5-$10/per person. In summary, I cannot recommend the Norwegian Dawn. The ports were lovely overall, but the ship needs some upgrading and improvements to the food service. Read Less

Wife and I are NCL Platinum Plus, and this was our 4th time on the Dawn. We were not enthused about our prior cruises on the Dawn, but we took it again because of the (Southern Caribbean) itinerary. Many years ago we took our 2 kids on a Carnival cruise and it ranks as the worst cruise; this last cruise is now second-worst. We don't expect gourmet food, but frankly the dinners were bad. At best, the food tasted bland, sometimes not even reaching that level. This includes Le Bistro. We get 2 free Specialty Dining, otherwise I would have been perturbed to have paid for the literally tasteless Le Bistro food. Giving credit where credit is due, our one positive dining experience was at Moderno - food was very good there. Everyone's taste is different, but we found the main show entertainment poor. The "side shows" in the Bliss Lounge were fun and enjoyable. Finally, major criticism for getting on and off the ship at the ports. Having to wait on long lines had me angry. I don't see waiting on a line as part of an enjoyable vacation. Why the lines, you ask? Because they had ONE security guard scanning your room card. At one port we skipped ahead of a lot of people on line, inadvertently. That line to get back on ship was so long we presumed they were waiting for afternoon shore excursions. We were lucky no one shot us for skipping that line! Read Less

I’ve been on one of windstars Mediterranean sailing cruises and it was wonderful, but the star pride Caribbean cruse has been a horrible waist of money. Not a nice experience at all. Unlike the sailing ships the star pride is run down. They run the engine so hard at night we can’t sleep because our bed shakes so bad. Not rocking of the boat or poor weather but engine rattling that makes your teeth chatter. Our shower has a back flow issue and we come back to find it filled with mearky water even when we haven’t been using it. The worst part is that the cruise is full of drunk rude and rowdy teenagers. They will keep serving the 16 year olds alcohol as long as the parents say it’s ok. But the parents don’t watch them and let them have the run of the ship. I didn’t pay $2000pp for the spring break in Tijuana experience. If I wanted that I’d go on a cheaper large cruse. This makes it a terrible cruse for couples dealing a quite nice experience. Communication with the crew is poor. Many of them don’t speak much English. I also get the feeling many of them are unhappy and probably live in terrible conditions from our interactions. The excursions are really disappointing for the money. We landed in Monserrat and they didn’t tell us until the night before there is no was of getting around the island and nothing to do unless you had booked one of the booked out excursions. We paid $100 per person to book the last remaining activity and it was just a drive to a place where you can see a few posters explaining the volcano and watch a 30 minute video. You couldn’t even see anything else. Then you get driven to a very small garden and told it’s another $10 to go in. The other “snokeling” excursion at St. Thomas was just a booze cruse. The boat is crowded and eating onboard for breakfast and lunch is fine because it’s a buffet but dinner is very slow. We wait on average an hour for our entrees. My husband has a special diet due to a very serious health condition but the crew we interact with don’t have strong enough English to understand what he needs. They run out of things constantly. Imagine being on a cruise where you can’t get any olive oil, only dressings with sugar on your salad. We tried ordering inadvance but it does no good. He still gets the wrong things when it comes time for dinner. Also it’s very hard to eat healthy on board we’ve found a lot of things have corn starch in them. The food it’s self is still pretty good for someone with no dietary needs. Read Less

We wanted to sail the Amazon River and enjoy the view from our balcony (see cabin review). The balcony was so disappointing. Food: The food is excellent. Our favorites were The Restaurant and Manfredi's. Chef's Table is fine if you like the fixed menu for that night. The included wine with lunch and dinner was another disappointment. There's one choice each day, red or white. You don't get to choose dry or sweet in either category, so sometimes the red was too sweet for my husband and the white was too sweet for me. The response is that you're welcome to order and pay for what you want. Internet: The best we've had on any of our 40+ cruises. Officers: Excellent. It wasn't unusual to see the captain and other senior officers strolling through the public areas, saying hello to passengers. Crew: The Shore Excursion Staff was wonderful, as were all food and beverage servers. Guest relations staff was on the cool side. Entertainment: The Viking Sea band and singers were all excellent. There was chamber music in the evenings in the atrium. No dance music until 11:00 pm. Around the ship: cleaning and maintenance was excellent, the best we've seen. No photographers interrupting us at meals or at every port of call. No art auctions. No casino. Special touches for suite passengers: None. Nothing special at embarkation. No suite concierge or separate line at Guest Services. No special breakfasts or evening receptions. We do not plan to sail with Viking again. Princess, Oceania, and Holland America all made us feel welcome and appreciated, so that's who we will stick with. Read Less

They just fall short in so many ways. Try to deceive and nickel and dime. Cheap wine is $13 a glass. French onion soup has a teaspoon of cheese on top. Seafood buffet was only fried fish and calamari. Blackjack and slot tournament, kept saying up to $500 to make people think prize was $500. Poker tournament said winner gets in championship, but later they said only if they make $2200, so we got there, then they said only after we take 25% first. Just lies and deception. Over charge on excursions, we had much better excursions on our own. One said open bar, but that meant rum punch only at a certain point while supplies last and no beer. The main entertainment was quite good, but the Gatsby players stunk soo bad. They only had like 20% of excursions on web to research ahead of time. Our December 17-28, 2017 cruise was a first for us, the first cruise longer than 7 days. We chose this cruise not because of the ship but because of the Ports. Some beautiful islands we have never been to before. However, that was a mistake. Next time we will choose based on the ship. The ports were great, except for Grenada and Guadeloupe. Both were very dirty ports and to be honest, I felt unsafe. We did enjoy the other Ports, did some shore excursions and just some walking around. Our cabin was great. We had a mini suite on the 11th floor. We were only about 1 minute from the pool area, in the middle of the forward and mid-ship elevators and didn't hear much noise around us. The cabin was spacious and had a full bathtub with shower (which is one of the reasons we upgraded from a balcony). The room was spacious as was the balcony. Loved that we had a coffee maker since my husband is an early riser and doesn't like to order room service as it will wake me. TV kinda sucked. Not much to watch. But I guess that's not what you are supposed to spend your vacation doing. Disappointed we did not have bath robes in our room. We learned that others in lower categories had them and others with lower latitudes rewards. Overall the cabin was fine. We ate in both main dining room for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast was pretty standard. Nothing to rave about but it was decent. We enjoyed the eggs benedict, corned beef hash, turkey sausage and fresh fruit. Toast was always cold. Coffee was ok (not as good as the stuff in the room). Lunch was alright - but I could have done as good at the buffet. None of our dinners impressed us. Food was warm if that, never hot. It was over sauced. It was not as described on the menu and overall I would give it a 2 out of 5. The service was always great both from the hostesses and the wait staff. O'Sheehan's was our go to. Food was about a 4 out of 5. They had good wings (though very small), their hot turkey and roast beef sandwiches were great, as was the ruben. However, service was slow. And once you were done eating they never came back to see if you wanted a drink. We ate lunch there pretty much every day. And snack time too. The buffet we visited twice. Neither of us our buffet fans. Too many hands touching food, too many people sneezing, eating in line or just walking in front of you. However, the salad bar was excellent. So if you need a healthy alternative go for that. We really cannot rate it as we only tried it once. Le Bistro used to be my favourite restaurant on NCL. This time, it was a disappointment. Our escargot was cold, not even warm (the butter in the dish was white still). They did bring us a new one that was pretty good. Could have used some more flavour (garlic and pepper) but it wasn't horrible. My meal was pretty gross. When you say colossal or jumbo shrimp don't bring me tiny frozen ones. My husband had a vegetarian entree which sounded really good. But it was cold. We cannot decide if it was supposed to be that way or not. However, if I order an entree I expect it to be warm unless the menu says otherwise. Overall were were very disappointed. Moderno - another traditionally tasty restaurant on other NCL ships. However, this one has a smaller salad bar than the buffet and they pushed all the different meats out to us in about 10 minutes. We didn't have time to chew let alone digest. It was the worst dining experience on the ship. Los Lobos - finally, a decent meal. I love Mexican food so I was very happy with my meal here. It is the cheapest of the specialty restaurants but probably the most flavourful. You could really just go and have some appetizers cause the complimentary chips and salsa are almost enough. The service was fantastic and the food was the best of the cruise to this point. They need to expand this restaurant to other ships. LaCucina - our favourite by far. We ended up eating here 3 times. Twice I had pasta and once the sea bass. Both were 10 our of 10. My husband had the lamb twice and again 10 out of 10. And you have to try the chocolate torte for dessert. YUM! The service here was amazing and we were about to sit outside the restaurant where we could see and hear the piano player at Gatsby's. By far the highlight of our trip. Bamboo - if you like asian, don't waste your time. It was very artificially to me, they loaded our table with food instead of bringing a couple things at once, and it was just not flavourful. Good service once again though. Entertainment - there is not one bad thing I can say about the entertainment on the ship. The professional style shows were amazing. We sat in the front row all the time. The Illusionist was outstanding. The dancing 10 out of 10 and the singing, out of this world! NCL never disappoints. Around the ship there was a ton of music and fun game shows etc. All of it was great. Our favourite bar/lounge was Gatsby's Champagne bar. Nightly piano music or soft tunes from a band. It was a quite location and never overly packed. We also enjoyed the atrium bar during the day when it was quiet. The pool area was nice. Surprisingly even on a sea day you could find seats. The loungers along the edge of the pool were perfect for me. When I got hot I just splashed myself or put my feet in the water. I am not a big swimmer so this was nice. Service around the pool was also great. I actually didn't see many chair hogs so overall it was great. We did 3 shore excursions and unfortunately had 2 cancel. The 3 we did were great. If you are in Bonaire be sure to do the Clear bottom kayak and snorkel. Amazing. Curacao we did "fun beach express" which gave us about a 45 minute tour on the way to a beautiful beach club. The tour was outstanding. Very interesting. And in Aruba we went to De Palm Island. Fantastic snorkelling and tons of stuff for all ages. Open bar, free food, waterpark, salsa dancing lessons, snorkelling, scuba diving, scuba, banana boat, zip lining and more. We booked a private cabana directly through De Palm Island and it was perfect. Free bottle of sparkling wine and unlimited OJ gave us mimosas for the day. The cabana allowed me to sit in the sun and my husband sit in the shade. It also had private stairs into the water to the amazing snorkelling. In Barbados we booked a private deep sea fishing tour with Reel Crazy. If you are ever there check them out. Great guides and a fantastic day on the water (3 barracuda was our catch). The experience from the cruise has left us wondering about trying another cruise line. Or maybe the smaller NCL ships are just not for us. We are actually going to take a hiatus from cruising for a bit to see if we miss it. After 7 cruises with NCL and 13 in total, I would have to say this was the most disappointing yet. Read Less

Chose this cruise due to the great ports listed in the original itinerary. Could have definitely lived without Guadaloupe stop which was substituted for St. Martin. Have been on 14 prior cruises, second on NCL and was really disappointed at how crowded and noisy the common areas were. The atrium area, coffee bar, pool, deck, Aqua and Venitian dining rooms and especially the Garden Cafe were all so loud and overcrowded. Everyone seeming to try to talk over everyone. Mostly could not find a place to sit for breakfast or lunch, and kids running everywhere, unsupervised. Used our mid ship patio often for some peace and quiet as well as trying to find a quiet spot on deck. We found the entertainment to be excellent. As well as the service. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Cabin size was disappointing. We have experience larger rooms in same category on other cruise lines. Closet and storage space was space and no night tables with drawers. If this is NCL's product, it may be awhile before we consider another cruise with them. Read Less

Norwegian failed its customers on this cruise -- let me count the ways: 1) offered locals in San Juan a discount that was not only fair to its regular fare paying customers but most likely cost NCL money. I realize filling cabins is the goal and this is standard procedure for various cruise lines sailing in/out of San Juan. But $300-400 dollars for inside cabins, allowing 4-6 people per cabin, while others paid $2-$4K/pp was not/is not fair. It also created an extremely unpleasant experience for the more experienced traveler and/or anyone with basic social manners and awareness because the passenger list was heavily weighted with the less than experienced and generally good mannered traveler; 2) NCL allowed passengers to bring and play their personal music at their dinner tables, the pool, and Atrium!! These passengers consumed every space on the ship and were unaware and disinterested in anyone else trying to make their way through the deck hallways, pool deck pathways, the buffet (!!you would think some people have never eaten in public or shared space with others!), getting on or off elevators became an almost push and shove experience and just overall general courtesies did not exist for the majority of these passengers. The blocking of deck / public hallways was not only an annoyance but a safety issue; 3) Excursion offerings were lacking and the few we booked through the ship the vendors were less than customer oriented. After the first 3 islands excursion experience, we ventured out on our own. Excursion desk - not helpful or courteous; 5) Witnessed a lead restaurant manager publicly reprimanding a server - BAD FORM!; 5) The Good: the NCL staff, especially the bar, casino and restaurant staff were excellent. Except for the Garden Cafe' and Cagney's Steakhouse, the food was excellent. The drinks and drink offerings were also excellent. Also enjoyed the itinerary and the little Christmas touches, e.g., caroling, Santa Claus, playing old Christmas movies, etc.. You can't beat spending Christmas in the Caribbean but don't sail out of San Juan with NCL. Read Less

Having cruised on the Viking Sea before, I felt this cruise was not up to Viking standards. Many of the crew appeared poorly trained - could walk past diners in need of table service without allowing eye contact. Many dining staff walked empty handed through the dining areas with no apparent purpose. The captain (or someone) could have made announcements as to our location now and then, or as to something of interest that we were passing. The showroom is much too small for 900 passengers, and the cruise was half over before second showings were added - poor planning there. Only one lecturer was worth listening to - making days at sea incredibly boring. More cooking shows or With the exception of the Festival in Paritins, the included excursions were overcrowded, and boring. those we purchased through Viking weren't much better. Think there should have been more research before launching this trip. Is Viking growing too fast to maintain their reputation , The ship is beautiful, the public areas amazing, but that's just not enough to bring us back. Read Less

We choose this cruise for our 40th wedding anniversary. We have sailed NCL before and everything has always been great. We paid for an upgrade aft facing penthouse suite. 9232. Great suite. Great balcony. Service with Ronald was brilliant as was cabin steward. Specialty restaurants and Moderna for breakfast and lunch was a life saver. Hallways to our cabin was littered with dirty diapers and dishes. There was an awful smell all the time by one of the elevators. Elevators were always a long wait due to kids and teens playing on them and pressing all buttons. We tried to eat in the buffet a couple of times during day but there was never any tables to sit down always crowded with kids running around knocking drinks and ice creams out of our hands. There didn’t seem to be any parental control or staff asking them to stop running. The food that was on offer was not to the standard that we are used to. There seemed to be a lack of thought with what was being served. We ate in both main dining rooms for 2 nights. Aqua was so crammed and we could not hear each other speak. Food was not as expected. Venetian was quieter but staff still looked flustered and it took time for meals to come out. Menu was basically boring. Entertainment seemed to of been cut back. We paid for WiFi and was refunded as it did not work properly. Ports were amazing would definitely like to go back to the same islands but would make sure that NCL would inform passengers that had paid full price that this was not one of their normal cruises. First - Windstar engages in flat out False Advertising (in our case -$200 in ship board credits per passenger). They were given ample opportunity to make this right and simply could not find a way to make it right. First - and last - time Windstar customer and they couldn’t care less. Business must be great when you can alienate new customers so easily Second - communications are horrendous. In the above issue it was raised with an officer - the top guy in charge of the hotel side of things - he said he would fix it. He didn’t and we never talked to him again. This on a ship that was maybe 75% full ( 150 people). Issues were raised post cruise with HQ and the email response was that we would hear back in 1 week - that was two weeks ago. crickets - chirp, chirp, chirp. We’ve heard zip Third - ship issues -our room was never adequately supplied with AC. Issue was raised on day 1 - never really fixed but I think it was an underlying operational issue. The front 1/3 of the ship was noticeably warmer than elsewhere. Most of the trip it was tolerable to barely intolerable. The last two nights it was flat out intolerable. On other sites, I’ve seen posts questioning the financial viablity of Windstar and I am beginning to think that may be the issue. It is a big world and there are a lot of small ship cruise operators. In the future, I am going to try Windstars competitors. I will not travel with Windstar again and I will share my experience with all my friends looking for small ship cruises. Oh - the shipboard crew -absolutely fantastic! To bad they lack the management and leadership they deserve. Read Less

We were so looking forward to sailing on one of the new Viking Ocean cruise ships. We were sorely disappointed! We have been sailing for over 25 years and have close to 1,000 days at sea. This was the second from the worst cruise we have ever taken! We were in an Explorer Suite, only the Owner's suite is larger! The ceilings were only 7 feet 3 inches in height. There was no storage space in our cabin, even in the walk in closet! Even the restaurant's had only 9 feet ceilings and were crammed with tables! Their marketing information leads you to believe that there is a stocked mini-bar in the room, which there isn't! Unless you call 2 inexpensive beers and 4 little bottles of spirits for 2 people. And, if you want any wine, you have to pay for it! And, let's discuss the wine. The included wine for lunch and dinner is undrinkable! The "premium" wine is anything but premium. If you are used to sailing on one of the luxury ships, don't even think about Viking Ocean. If you like nice wine, again don't think about sailing on Viking Ocean. Based on the price of this cruise you would think that it would be a luxury experience and it was anything but. Very poor value for our money! Not deserving of the awards that they have been given. This is a delayed post as I wanted to process the details of our trip. This was our second cruise with NCL ( first one: Getaway Jan 15 Eastern Caribbean). My husband and I were looking forward to trying a smaller, older ship that was recently refurbished in the south Caribbean. We had such an amazing time on our first cruise that I had really high expectations for this one. We were celebrating my husband's 40th and our 10 year anniversary. We did not have any kids traveling with us and consider ourselves to be active adults. We had a drink and burger/fries/fruit from Topsiders Bar and Grill in the pool area on our second day on the ship. That evening we both got violently sick. At first we thought it was something we ate on the island we had visit that day but after speaking to a few other passengers who got sick after eating at Topsiders Bar and Grill, we knew that must have been the cause. All we could do for the rest of the trip was lay in bed. The beds were super hard and uncomfortable. We cancelled all of our excursions and dinner reservations, and only ate at the buffet. We purchased the dinner package as we really enjoyed the specialty restaurants and the Sugar Cane Mojito bar on the Getaway. The ship also felt really small and quite crowded with long lines for any of the meals. The ships entertainment did not seem as entertaining as our previous cruise. The positives: our room steward was amazing and the group from Cruise Critic. Our room steward did a great job cleaning our room and was always super friendly. He deserved a raise! We are hesitant to book another cruise with NCL after getting so sick. If we do, it will only be on a new ship since that seems to be where they spend their money on the food and entertainment. I recently took the Summit on a trip to the Caribbean. It was not my first time on Celebrity but I must say it will be my last. This ship is old and new carpet and a few new gadgets wont make this ship worthy of the fleet. Another problem was the captain, very unprofessional. Her comments and gestures where more of a taxi drive then a ships captain and mentioning Hillary was most annoying.. Food was far the worst of all my 64 cruises and the predictable and roaming plumbing problems sent this cruise into the list of " got to miss this one" cruise. Celebrity got to get there game together before they loose biz.. I cant say enough about the staff how efficient and accommodating they where. The gaily ways where always filled with odors of clogged plumbing and we devised a way to bypass some floors on the way to the dining room. Please put this ship out of it's mystery. Read Less

I was very, very disappointed with this cruise. First of all, Royal Caribbean advertises their ships on their website and in the media as having circus schools, surfing and roller skating. Our ship had NONE of those. Every time we tried to go to the adult area of the pool it was always jam-packed, with the hot tubs filled to capacity, and there were never any chairs available out of the sun. The pool was also fantastically freezing, one of the coldest bodies of water I have ever been in. The food was just ok -- the upstairs buffet got old quickly and again it was always mobbed with people no matter what time you went. The internet, also billed by Royal Caribbean as super-fast on all their ads AND their website, was so slow I bet my 1994 AOL dialup could have beaten it. And this was while using THEIR internet café! I asked for at a minimum an explanation of why it was so ridiculously slow after we got back, and Royal Caribbean didn't bother to ever respond. The process of getting both on and off the ship was a nightmare. I don't know why they even bother with de-embarkation times as it seemed completely arbitrary. We were all corralled into a sauna-hot metal warehouse with no AC for over an hour trying to get out, while people cut the line constantly. It was a disaster. The ONLY saving grace was the teen program that my son enjoyed and the amazing staff at the spa. Read Less

According to American law no royalties are due for music composed before 1923. Silversea's playlist reflects that fact. Their live music is not performed by a band but by a "Quartet". No singer - none needed for a repertoire primarily consisting of Cha-cha-cha and various nondescript. So unfortunately we had to head straight for our cabin after dinner. If you don't like listening (or dancing) to music from your own lifetime performed by a band, and if you prefer your parents' and grandparents' music, Silversea may be the right option for you. In that case here are our observations: Like other reviews say the ship is dated but it is of course from 1995 so you cannot expect style and comfort to be from this century. What you could expect - but don't get - is a functioning aircon system. The excuse we were presented with at first was that we were in The Caribbean which is warm(!) So probably the system cools better in the Antarctic. In fairness: After a week of complaining we did get another suite where the heat was tolerable. We did two cruises back to back - 26 days total - and talked with quite a few repeat guests who complained that each year Silversea cuts away on the luxury items on the menu. We have sailed with them once before but that was 11 years ago so we couldn't say. In the meantime we have sailed 280 days with Seabourn and we found Silversea's cuisine and service to be on par.
