I have cruised with NCL many times. This was my first bad experience, and BAD is polite. The ship itself should be retired. It was rusty, not rust stained, cracking rusty. The staff had horrible attitudes, for the most part, with a few exceptions. The food was poor. The service was terrible. The toilets didn't flush for hours at a time. We docked where we told we could walk to a ferry to go to a beach or shopping. We had to take a cab to the ferry, because we docked at a different doc, but no one told us. We had dinner reservations, 15 minutes after our time, we inquired on the wait. We were told '2 minutes we are cleaning the table'. Another 45 minutes later, only after making a fuss, we were finally seated. A server came to us poolside, we ordered, he said he would be right back. He came back over an hour later, we asked what happened, he said the bar he worked out of, closes until 2! Why did he tell us he would be right back? Disembarkment was a complete nightmare. After they announced it started and people lined up, it took them 1/2 hour or more to open the doors. people were jammed on the stairs, elevators, hallways! I did not speak to one person that was happy, including staff. If this was my 1st cruise experience, I would never do it again. Read Less

I went on my first cruise with NCL in 2008 and it was a great cruise. This was my fiancé first cruise, our first real vacation together, and my first real vacation since 2008, I wanted it to be special so I picked NCL. They did not disappoint. We were nervous as to the cruise since the hurricanes that ravaged the Caribbean in the fall. We contacted NCL shortly after and they assured us to sit tight and they were looking at changing ports to make sure that everyone had a good experience and if they were unable to give us the same or similar cruise or could not change ports we would get the same offer as the people who were cancelled right after the hurricane and I was impressed that they were working on a plan for our December cruise in the beginning of October. Our cabin was lovely, the ship was very nice. We went to the speciality restaurants and they were great some better than others. We upgraded to a package they were offering, all inclusive beverage, specialty restaurant, wifi, and excursion and it was well worth it. We were so happy with our cruise that we put a deposit with the cruise next people on board the ship. Our next cruise we will be going to Alaska for NCL's new land and sea cruise. Read Less

I would rate the experience of the ship a "2.5" but off ship experience a "4.5"! The itinerary and the stops were great however the onboard experience was less than desirable. The pool and hot tubs were filthy, at night if you walked by the pool when the lights were on you could see that the water was mirky and had a yellowish tint. If your wanting to use the pool or hot tub in this boat, choose a different boat as they are very small. We met several people on the boat who have frequently cruised this route with Norwegian and they too were frustrated with onboard experiance. They told us that Norwegian had made a special deal with Puerto Ricans who wanted to cruise($200.00 per adult and kids under 18 free). In doing so they also apparantly changed up the menu's, lots of hamburger, hot dogs, french fry's, chicken ect when the previous menu's offered more fine dining included with your basic cruise fare. While I have no proof of this only the words of Norwegian's "premier " Latitude cruise members who have cruised previously I can look back and relate. If you have any upcoming trip planned and paid for I would also recommend you go online and check pricing. We booked a port hole view room six months before departure and I went online to check pricing for balcony and suites about a month before departure and found that suites were cheaper than our port hole view room. I called Norwegian and they were very rude at first and would not help, I asked for a manger and re-explained my situation and frustration. They did finally upgrade our room to a balcony (better than nothing) but I still feel they should have done a little more for us. Our group is the beach type, we wanted to get away from the people that were on the ship and just relax. We did not do any "organized" shore excursions as we felt they were lots of $$$ for what you get. Below are the locations we visited at each port and thoughts. Barbados: Go visit "The Tiki Bar", its is located about 15-20 minutes out of town. There are chairs with umbrella's.. They charge you $30.00 dollars but give you "Tiki" Dollars back redeemable for food/drink at restaurant. The beach is great with some snorkeling and there were maybe 30 people there all day. The cab driver who drops you off will also arrange to come back and pick you up. They say they open at 9 but its more like 10! Fort-de-France: Go visit "Lili's Beach Bar" We think that this is the only beach on the island as it is very small. The water was amazing and protected. The menu is fresh and changed everyday. Give yourself lots of time to find a cab back to the ship and I would use a CC on the island as they do not like to accept the US dollar. St. Kitts/Nevis: Go visit "Shipwrecks" This was my favorite place on the trip, its located down a dirt road at the base of mountain with black sand beach. Lots of lounge chairs, Monkey's, Mongoose, swimming area, coral reef with snorkeling, great food and great prices. Your cab driver will also schedule a pick-up to take you back to the ship. Get yourself a "Shark Bite" shot but make sure its your last drink of the day. St Johns Antigua: "Coconut Beach" was a bit interesting, the sand is white but coarse, water has great color but not clear. They charge for lounge chairs and umbrella's. Being a bit further north there were occasional rain squalls that came through. St Thomas: Go visit "Secret Harbour Beach" Very small private beach with restaurant and bar. Once we arrived here we discovered a local dive shop, Aqua Action Dive Center, with very reasonable snorkel rates. It was $70.00 per person to go stop at 2 locations. Sam the owner took 8 of us out even offered to drop is back off at the marina so we didn't have to take a cab back. If there is enough time you might even get Sam take you to Honeymoon beach on "Water Island" to the secluded beach bar only accessible by boat or ferry.http://www.aadivers.com/ Read Less

We choose this cruise for our 40th wedding anniversary. We have sailed NCL before and everything has always been great. We paid for an upgrade aft facing penthouse suite. 9232. Great suite. Great balcony. Service with Ronald was brilliant as was cabin steward. Specialty restaurants and Moderna for breakfast and lunch was a life saver. Hallways to our cabin was littered with dirty diapers and dishes. There was an awful smell all the time by one of the elevators. Elevators were always a long wait due to kids and teens playing on them and pressing all buttons. We tried to eat in the buffet a couple of times during day but there was never any tables to sit down always crowded with kids running around knocking drinks and ice creams out of our hands. There didn’t seem to be any parental control or staff asking them to stop running. The food that was on offer was not to the standard that we are used to. There seemed to be a lack of thought with what was being served. We ate in both main dining rooms for 2 nights. Aqua was so crammed and we could not hear each other speak. Food was not as expected. Venetian was quieter but staff still looked flustered and it took time for meals to come out. Menu was basically boring. Entertainment seemed to of been cut back. We paid for WiFi and was refunded as it did not work properly. Ports were amazing would definitely like to go back to the same islands but would make sure that NCL would inform passengers that had paid full price that this was not one of their normal cruises. This was our sixth and final cruise with NCL. We'll take our business elsewhere. NCL's big mistake: they chose to offer severe last minute discounts in order to fill the ship to capacity before we left San Juan, Puerto Rico. While we paid thousands, the folks in the adjacent cabin only spent several hundred dollars for the equivalent product. NCL chose not offer us comped upgrades or discounts to "even things out". Unfortunately, as an example of our cruise participant demographics, the couple in the adjacent cabin also enjoyed fighting and passionately bickering at high volume during late night hours. They did it EVERY night, and they represented others that stiffed taxi drivers while in port, cut in line, played their music loudly on portable boom-boxes throughout the ship, and didn't have the keen financial ability to pay-up as the ship approached home port. In a nut shell, the boat was a proverbial Walmart on the Water for the 7-day event. If NCL got stiffed on payment, it'd be because they deserved it. Regarding other "highlights": Food / service: average at best, bland, slow and cold with the exception of the two main dining rooms, Los Lobos and Modero's. For these four places, the food, staff and service were EXCELLENT, just like in the good ol' days of great customer service. For the most part, bar staff and beverage service was very good. The only negative example was the big ol' bartender that was behind the bar in O'Sheen's. He was miffed when we asked to watch an NFL game on the TV. And he was "addicted" to his cell phone while on duty throughout the cruise. Our balcony cabin was comfortable for two and had paper thin walls, or at least the door that adjoined them should have been sealed shut. It may have blocked out some of the Spanish and profanities. The cabin steward struggled throughout the cruise to restock two packets of regular coffee and a couple of creamers throughout the trip. He was great at making animal towels and we overcame the coffee supply dilemma by grabbing the supplies off the carts. In a nut shell, NCLs service and product has tanked. This was reaffirmed by others swapping stories on the boat and at the airport on the return trip. We'll move on to Celebrity or another cruise-line that values the customer's financial investment. First - Windstar engages in flat out False Advertising (in our case -$200 in ship board credits per passenger). They were given ample opportunity to make this right and simply could not find a way to make it right. First - and last - time Windstar customer and they couldn’t care less. Business must be great when you can alienate new customers so easily Second - communications are horrendous. In the above issue it was raised with an officer - the top guy in charge of the hotel side of things - he said he would fix it. He didn’t and we never talked to him again. This on a ship that was maybe 75% full ( 150 people). Issues were raised post cruise with HQ and the email response was that we would hear back in 1 week - that was two weeks ago. crickets - chirp, chirp, chirp. We’ve heard zip Third - ship issues -our room was never adequately supplied with AC. Issue was raised on day 1 - never really fixed but I think it was an underlying operational issue. The front 1/3 of the ship was noticeably warmer than elsewhere. Most of the trip it was tolerable to barely intolerable. The last two nights it was flat out intolerable. On other sites, I’ve seen posts questioning the financial viablity of Windstar and I am beginning to think that may be the issue. It is a big world and there are a lot of small ship cruise operators. In the future, I am going to try Windstars competitors. I will not travel with Windstar again and I will share my experience with all my friends looking for small ship cruises. Oh - the shipboard crew -absolutely fantastic! To bad they lack the management and leadership they deserve. Read Less

I have heard so much about how great Viking Ocean Cruises are that we just had to try it. It was one of our best cruises ever. We enjoyed the ship so very much. It was a quieter cruise than what we have experienced on other cruise lines. The ship is beautiful and we really enjoyed all the quiet places we could go to relax, read, talk and just enjoy. The food was very good and we enjoyed the specialty restaurants as well. One of my favorites was the Norwegian waffles served in the Explorer Lounge area in the mornings. Our favorite restaurant was Manfredi's where we had a steak that I would rate as the best steak I have ever had. Overall the whole experience on this ship was just outstanding. We look forward to another ocean cruise on Viking. We did book a river cruise while on the ship and got a very good deal. Read Less

We chose Viking for the smaller ship, adult oriented and all inclusive cruise. The spa was wonderful. The enrichment lectures were very informative. Cabin, dining and service were all outstanding. Wish we could have had more visits to Manfredi's and the Chef's table -- the food was delicious. The food and the service everywhere in the ship was top notch. The crew was very professional, courteous, accomodating and always seeking ways to make the cruise more enjoyable. The embarkation and disembarkation was very smooth. From the time we arrived at the airport at the start, to dropping off at the airport and the end, there were no worries. Everything was handled adeptly and efficiently. This was our first Viking cruise and one thing that we found particularly interesting was how much the other passengers also enjoyed Viking. For many of them it was not their first cruise nor their first cruise with Viking. We thought that was a huge endorsement of Viking's excellence in the greater cruising experience. Overall it was just a very relaxing and enriching experience. We are going again. Already booked! Read Less

The cruise, long ship and the staff was all amazing. Viking exceeded our expectations with each excursions. We wanted to see what Ocean Cruises that Vikings offer and were we ever so glad that we did choose one! The ship was beautiful, the people were wonderful, and there was never a day in which we were disappointed in the food nor the entertainment. We are trying to plan our next Viking Ocean Cruise but that is not easy to do. There are so many wonderful offerings that it is more difficult for us the third time with Viking than the first time with Viking because we know that whichever Ocean Cruise we choose we will not be disappointed! Received great services with a smile from everyone who offered us service, even though they might have been officers and just buy us in one of the passage ways. Two areas which could improve to great was the spa personnel who didn't bother to explain before starting what steps you would follow , including showering etc.and event booking personnel on board. There need to be longer hours on board the ship for the booking and answering informational questions from them, especially for people on their first cruise. If we are trying to spend more money on future cruises or excursions, somehow and do not know the ins and outs of the process. As for back office support on air reservations and sales representatives for cruises they do not come close to the quality of ship personnel. would welcome the opportunity to further explain our challenges in booking the first cruise last December , the upcoming cruise in June , and possibly one in 2019. We loved getting a "sampler tray" of so many Caribbean islands. We did "nature-y" excursions where we could. We did not do any bus tours. We did do the walking tour of San Juan. This was a bit too long for some of the older cruisers, but they just let the guide know they were heading back early, which was no problem. We talked one of the catamaran operators into turning off the party music while sailing; I had been afraid to ask the crew, but it turns out they prefer it too! The Viking Sea is an amazing achievement, both in the sense of designing and building it, and in terms of keeping it running so gracefully. The crew seem genuinely happy; they have their own relaxation areas and I do believe they are treated well, which was important to me. They really seem to enjoy working on board a great ship. The ship never felt crowded; not even close. Sometimes we wondered where everybody else was. If you can find something to complain about here, you will find it anywhere. We are not quite seniors, but we did not want Jimmy Buffet and water slides and bikini contests either. We wanted great food, relaxing spaces, and memorable excursions...three-for-three! The school steel drum band that performed on board in St. Kitts was PHENOMENAL. We danced to their music for over an hour. But if you didn't want that, you could just go hang out by the other pool, no worries. We opted for the Silver Spirits package, which is a good deal if you have a few drinks each day, or if you like special wine pairings. We finally made it to the spa on the last day; it was wondrous. Definitely take advantage! I had never taken a cruise before and did not think I ever would. I think Viking has the right idea: classy but not stuffy. If I cruise again it will be Viking! Read Less

As first time cruise folks, we were quite involved in asking the more seasoned fellow cruisers their opinion of what we were experiencing on this trip. We never heard one comment of negativity. We chose Viking due to the overall ratings that this cruise line keeps receiving. We were not interested in gambling or having a wide range of ages on board. Viking seemed to fit the bill. The ship was impeccable, the staff pleasant and accommodating, the food outstanding, and finally, the entertainment was outstanding. Hats off to Viking for giving us the cruise of a lifetime. Your representation as a high tiered line is justly deserved. Our Cabin Steward went out of his way to assist me on the first night of the cruise--sea sickness! Each day he made contact with me to meet any other needs that we had( not to mention the superb work in our stateroom!). The best Viking band and all the musicians and singers made us laugh, dance, sing along, inspired, and brought back many memories of our younger years and the music . The port calls and educational talks were quite informative and added to the depth of our knowledge for which we are thankful. Hats off to the entire crew and staff of Viking Cruise line for a very memorable and fantastic cruise. Read Less

Our 50th anniversary cruise. With our cruise in doubt due to 2 cat. 5 hurricanes,Viking gave us outstanding incentives to wait for a new itinerary. When the date came, not only were the air arrangements excellent, but the itinerary was better than the original. The cruise was peaceful with the most outstanding crew of any cruise we have been on.The food was good, and with the included specialty dining, the variety was excellent. This was not a party cruise, with mostly low key entertainment, but had some great concerts. We were treated like royalty the entire cruise.Free excursions at every port, which dealt mostly with the history and lifestyle of the islanders.Would like to have had more snorkleing opportunities included, but some were available as paid options. We went to several Hurricane affected Islands, and saw the devestation, but found almost no negatives to our excursions which were a help to the locals.I particularly liked having the option of being dropped at the shopping districts in lieu of returning to the ship. Have done Viking River and decided to do an Ocean voyage. We liked the itinerary to several islands in the eastern Caribbean. We fly on a red eye to San Juan. Transfers went smoothly. Once on board we were impressed by the clean lines and décor of the ship. We stayed in a V1 balcony-we figured that with a port intensive cruise we wouldn't be in our room a lot. The room was plenty spacious and the bath was nice. Because of the hurricanes several passengers had cancelled so the ship was not crowded at all. We also were given $250 ship board credit due to changes in schedule and perhaps to encourage people not to cancel. Having been on several other cruise lines we were very happy with-no photographers, no casino, no art auctions etc. The ship was beautiful and the staff was very friendly. We enjoyed the food and managed to go to Chefs Table and the specialty restaurant also. The excursions were nice overviews and included. We only did one optional excursion in St Kitz. for a walk in the rain forest. I think the highlight of our cruise was midway when returning from an excursion we were greeted with champagne and ~1/3 of the crew out cheering and dancing to the music from the band on the ship. They were high-fiving all of us. Just a nice touch showing their appreciation. Also ever day we left on an excursion at least 1-2 officers were there to wish us well. We enjoyed the entertainment even though it was a small company. We thought they were talented and enjoyed the shows. They weren't big productions but that was fine for us. Overall we really enjoyed the cruise and the ship. We will most likely travel again on Viking Ocean for the smalller size and service. Read Less

My husband and I have taken several Viking river cruises (China, Russia, Eastern Europe) as well as ocean cruises on Royal Caribbean, Holland American, Norwegian, and Carnival. We wanted to take a Viking ocean cruise to see how it compared to our past experiences and traveled with two other couples. All of us loved the ship, the service, and the amenities. We never waited in any lines for meals or waited for an elevator. The ship was beautifully maintained throughout. I especially enjoyed the pool areas and the complimentary spa facility with the sauna and the snow room. Meals were excellent, especially the steak in the Italian restaurant. We appreciated not having to pay extra for the specialty restaurants. I do not drink, but the others enjoyed the complimentary wine selections at dinner. Entertainment was enjoyable - 6 singers who performed Beatles, ABBA, Rat Pack, and French cabaret on various nights. The excursions were just OK...nothing special, but I have been to the Caribbean several times, so I wasn't really expecting too much. Viking did their best to work around the hurricane issues. Our only complaint - and it is a major one- involves the flight to Puerto Rico. We had been scheduled to fly on a Wednesday morning on American. On the Sunday before the flight one of the men in our group tried to contact AA because his wife needed oxygen. They had no record of us. When he called Viking Air, they said we had been changed to United and were leaving on Tuesday evening instead. They claimed they had emailed us in October. This was news to us because none of us had received an email, and the information book Viking sent a few weeks before had us on American. We had to scramble around to change shuttles and other things as well, and it was stressful. Nevertheless we got to Puerto Rico and enjoyed the cruise, although we were quite unhappy with Viking Air. Aside from that issue, I'm happy that we will be taking another Viking ocean cruise in April (Mediterranean Odyssey) and are looking forward to another excellent experience. Read Less

Everyone friendly, food and service fantastic, entertainment was good; we missed several shows unfortunately. We're going back on the Sky in Jan.'18 and the Med in '19 OK, this is probably not ever brought up, but would appreciate feedback - why is there NO RED SAUCE offered on pasta in specialty Italian restaurant Manfredies ? Good food - disappointed in no red sauces and veal too dry to eat. Anyway, loved cruise; made pasta with meatballs, sausage and red sauce (gravy) as soon as we got home. Food offered in World Café buffet excellent; staff would not even let you pick up your food, but took it to table and offered soft drinks, wine or beer. Awesome ! Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the islands we were to visit. It was a cruise for 6 sisters to enjoy time together as there is a great age difference between us and we wanted a lasting memory for the younger girls to remember the older ones. (Our time on this earth is shorter) Because of hurricane Maria our cruise ports changed, we understood and wanted to postpone or rebook for a later time. NCL said no, we would lose the entire cruise because it was less than 90 days out and we paid in full for 2 suites roughly 10,000. We would still have to departed from a disaster area, San Juan Puerto Rico. We had our hotel reservations cancelled TWICE because F.E.M.A took over our hotels (different hotels) Tried rebooking our flights and S.W.A. wanted $600.00 more per ticket to change them by just one day. Well, we stuck it out and got a dump of an apartment for 2 nights. On to the cruise fiasco. We had priority boarding that took us over 2 hours to board, suitcases damaged (3 wheels completely torn of and fabric ripped to bare metal showing. The islands we were going to were St. Lucia, St.Martinique, St. Maarten, St. Kitts and St. Thomas, revised to St. Lucia, St.Martinique, St. Kitts, St. John's and St. Croix as of the 30th of December. We we boarded the ship and got to our suites we then discovered we were to longer going to St. Croix, but going to St. Thomas, Wow! One of our suites with "floor to ceiling windows" you couldn't see out of as if they had not been cleaned in months. Numerous complaints were made to no avail. Paying for a view we never got! The pool bar closed EVERY night by 11 and many times earlier and not even any piped in music to listen to if you wanted to just sip drinks by the pool. We used an I Phone to have music by the pool. The cruise was mostly Latin music and the bars that were near the suites were closed down early every night. We would have to go to the front of the ship to get drinks and carry them back to the pool, to have other music than salsa, nothing against salsa, but it gets boring after 50 or 60 in a row! The food was marginal and even the places that were suppose to serve 24/7 closed. The art shows ran too long and other events you we not able to make because you had no time to change between them. Missed alot of things because of their poor scheduling. It took one of my sisters 3 days to clear up her on board account, causing her undue stress on what was suppose to be a enjoyable and relaxing time with all her sisters. Don't play bingo on their ship, 1 game for $25.00 and No guarantee payout. Casino isn't much better, I listen to a patron discuss the payout or should I say "lack of payout" on a machine with the "CASINO HEAD" for an hour! He should have taken the argument away from the ears of other player, but did not. Made me not want to play there again. Many other things went wrong on this cruise that were not corrected and that is why I Will not return to NCL for another cruise. Read Less

I chose this cruise because I had not been to some of the islands. II was very leary of what I would find in San Juan. I was pleasantly surprised at the efficiency at the airport, in my NCL transfer from airport to ship, and finding out that my upgrade from an inside to a balcony was accepted. What a pleasant surprise! The crew were great! I want to give a special shout out to a lovely hostess in one of the main dining rooms ( the Aqua room). I had sailed on the Epic last year and she was so kind and seemed to remember me. I am a solo traveler and most times prefer to dine alone. She always seated me at a very nice table and made me feel very special. I was always seated promptly. The ship itself was quite clan. I was in heaven with my balcony cabin. The food was adequate. The desserts were wonderful. Entertainment, on a scale of 1 to 5 was a 3. The service was excellent. I went on several of the NCL excursions and was not disappointed.. I am going tomorrow to sign up for the Panama Canal. Can't wait until November! Happy cruising with NCL! Read Less

Prior to this cruise I had taken maybe a dozen Caribbean cruises. I chose this cruise primarily because I had never visited its five ports of calls and secondarily because I thought that it would be a step up from the norm in terms of luxury. Following Hurricane Maria, Windstar changed the first two ports of call. In exchange, however, they agreed to upgrade my room one category from S1 to S2 and give me a $200 on board credit. The room was really nice. The food was excellent. We always ate breakfast and lunch in the buffet restaurant. The choice and quality were very good. In addition to the buffet items, you could order a select number of items from a menu e.g., pancakes, eggs, hamburger and fries. The dinners at the Amphora restaurant were outstanding. I sometimes ordered two entrees or two desserts. One memorable dinner was the best that I have ever had on a cruise ship. Overall the staff was outstanding -- everybody from the waiters, cooks, and steward to the men who helped us to board and alight the tenders. Other plusses: morning stretch with the Fitness Center trainer; exercise walks around the top deck; good internet connection in the computer room; Deck 5 hot tub; scones and tea in the Yacht Club bar. Minuses: There was not much to do in the evening. The two musical duos were OK, but we mostly retired to our room shortly after dinner. I would have enjoyed lectures, dance lessons, wine tastings, etc. Suggested beaches: Pointe du Bout on Martinique; Pain-de-Sucre and Pompierre on Terre de Haut; Shell Beach and Nikki Beach on St Barth. We sailed round- trip from San Juan Puerto Rico on the Star Pride from 12/2/2017 to 12/9/2017. Embarkation: The port appeared to be in good shape, we arrived by cab around 1:30 PM. After clearing port security and a quick baggage search, our bags were tagged and taken by Windstar staff. Aboard the ship, we were greeted with a rum punch and the check in in the lounge was quick. We were able to make reservations for our preferred night at the specialty restaurant- Candles and information about amenities like beverage packages and the spa was available. Dining: Veranda- We ate the buffet breakfast and lunch each day and enjoyed the food selection and made to order eggs/omelets. The service staff was great and the chef even accommodated our request to make an impromptu olive tapenade to pair with the delicious French baguette and charcuterie that we bought in Les Saintes- what a treat! Amphora- We enjoyed the varied and delicious selections, the attentive staff and the accommodating maître D. We dined alone for our wedding anniversary and we met new shipboard friends when we asked to be seated with other passengers. We thought that all the meals were very good and the selection was great, it was nice to have the “classics” menu available…sometimes you just want to have a steak or a piece of fish that is not fussy. Candles: We ate at Candles once during the cruise. The ambiance was very nice and the meat/ side dishes were excellent, our only issue was that the portion sizes were very large for us and we felt bad about wasting some of that wonderful meal. Yacht Club- We enjoyed coffee and snacks here several times. Great services and coffee with a view and air conditioning. What could be bad about that? Beach and Deck Bar-B-Q: Unfortunately, the beach party was rained out on our sailing, but shipboard we enjoyed the usual beach party foods such as hot dogs, hamburgers, grilled fish and all the trimmings. We had perfect weather for the entire cruise except for that day…sometimes mother nature just does not cooperate with our plans. It is no wonder that St. Lucia is so green and lush! The Deck bar-b que was a highlight of the cruise. It had great selection with lots of seafood, meats and a whole roast pig. It was nicely done and festivities were enjoyed by all. It was fun to see our cabin steward and our favorite crew members line dancing. Entertainment: There were two duos on our sailing one that performed on the deck in the afternoons (Northern Lights) and one that performed in the Compass Rose at night (Alzucar Duo). We went to the Compass Rose every night, but felt that it was under- attended. Most nights it was just a few passengers and one night were the only passengers there. Alzucar Duo were very accommodating, taking our request when they knew them and they even played some upbeat music that had a few of us dancing one night. We did attend the Liars club and crew talent show and enjoyed them both. It was fun to see our cabin steward and our favorite crew members dancing at the deck bar- b- que. Extras: We were given the beverage package as a “perk” when we booked our cruise nearly a year out and we purchased the laundry package. We enjoy our cocktails on vacation and the bar service was excellent with a good selection of liquors and wines by the glass. We felt that the package would have been a good value even if we had purchased it and it was nice not have to review a long list of room charges at the conclusion of the cruise. The laundry package was wonderful, all our laundry that was out by 9:00AM was back to us the same day clean and pressed. It was so nice to pack lighter and go home with a suitcase full of clean clothes. Itinerary notes: We only took one organized excursion, in Martinique, the Diamond Rock catamaran cruise. This excursion had a lot of variety: after a scenic sail, we stopped in a small village to explore, enjoy the beach or snorkel. Then, there was more sailing with potent rum punch and variety of snacks cooked for us by the on- board chef. There was another stop to snorkel or swim with turtles and a third stop to take a look at a bat cave, then more sailing and back to the ship. Captain Vincent and the crew were great. Our favorite port was Les Saintes, it was what I imagined that the “old” Caribbean would be like. The French influence was wonderful, quiet lanes, quaint buildings and churches, unique boutiques, bakeries with fresh baguettes, wandering chickens and waterfront bars and restaurants. Unfortunately, sea conditions did not allow our sailing to tender in to Monserrat, so we sailed on to St Barths and were able to spend both an afternoon/evening and the following morning there before sailing back to San Juan. Windstar gets an A+ for their handling of the missed port, they kept everyone informed, the Captain bought drinks at happy hour and they even gave us an onboard credit. In conclusion, we had a great time thanks to the wonderful crew. I don’t know how they can remember all of the passenger’s names and preferences… they are truly amazing! Gretchen, who works at the reception, even remembered me from the prior cruise that I took on the MS Windstar one year before. We were already discussing which Windstar Cruise to take next year, before we even arrived home! Read Less

We had been on a windstar cruise nine years ago and had always wanted to go on another, but before there were no elevators and we have mobility problems on stairs and walking long distances. We had booked a regular suite, but after my husbands trip to the emergency room from a fall incapacitated him further, we asked for and were upgraded to a handicap accessible room. These are not equipped for wheelchairs, but have accessible showers rather than a tub/shower combination, and this cabin upgrade saved our trip. One note, however, you do have to go up and down stairs to board the ship and to board the tenders, which was difficult for us and discourage from getting off of the ship for many of the ports. The employees and the passengers were so nice and helpful, that it made our trip enjoyable even though we did have some mobility issues. The adults only policy was a plus for us. The small ship size made it easy for us to get around to all areas on the ship. The cabin was very spacious with draw curtains that divided the sitting area from the bed area. Although we did not have a balcony room, we had a large picture window for viewing the scenery. I thought the food was excellent and better overall compared to other ships we have been on. I personally liked the entertainment of two different singing duos, but others may find the limited on board entertainment to be lacking. We had booked two independent shore excursions, but due to the rough seas and bad weather, the Montserrat stop was cancelled, so we only went ashore on Martinique, but we enjoyed that island very much. The beach bar-b-q was also moved onto the ship due to rainy weather. We were compensated with on board credit for these, which was totally unexpected and more than you would receive on most other cruise lines. This will probably be our last cruise due to mobility issues and age, but I consider this to have been one of the most enjoyable cruises we have ever taken. Read Less

Chose Viking because of size of ship and number of passengers. Included excursions were average. Interesting because we were the first ship to dock in St. Maarten since the Hurricanes. Entertainment for the most part is lackluster. Love the fact that there is no casino. Many places to relax, read, play games. Also free wifi is a nice perk. Also chose this cruise because it was 9 ports in 10 days. Because of the hurricanes we were not sure if we would get to 9 ports. A week before we left St. Maarten and St. Thomas were added back. When we boarded the ship we were notified that we will also stop at St. Kitts. Although no excursions were available from the ship for St.Kitts, local guides were available when we got off the ship. Very interesting to see the conditions and how the islanders are coping. Will definitely consider Viking Ocean for another cruise. Read Less

We wanted to try a Viking cruise since we enjoy the riverboat cruises so much. We really don't like the huge ships so thought this might be better for us and it was! The staff was superior and very well trained. We enjoyed the different options for dining. The food was very good and always served hot. Viking has done a superior job of taking a large cruise ship and making it feel intimate like their river boats. We had decided to never do another ocean cruise but not can't wait until our next trip with Viking. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience, even following the terrible hurricane that the islands suffered. Most of the shore excursions were well done but the walking tour in San Juan was just too long. I would suggest that an easier walking tour be offered for those who just can't do five miles at one time. Most of the local guides were very good. Read Less

We wanted to go somewhere warm and I had always wanted to visit St. Lucia. The ship was well laid out. I enjoyed the lectures and the port talks. Entertainment was varied, enjoyable, and not too loud as it had been on other cruise lines. The food was great. The buffet had lots of selection for lunch. We only chose to eat in the dining room in the evening and were never disappointed. Staff was attentive and pleasant and we enjoyed meeting new people. The hydotherapy pool and tile lounges were a pleasant, included perk. We enjoyed the included shore excursions which were enhanced by the previous night's port talk. A favourite shore excursion was the photography tour of Barbados. Ronnie was a great tour guide. We will never forget the torrential rainstorm that happened while we were on the aerial tram. The people we encountered on the islands were friendly and we always felt safe. Overall a terrific trip! Read Less

The Viking Cruise was truly a delightful trip from the beautifully designed ship, the all-inclusive package including wine/beer at lunch and dinner, a daily shore excursion, and access to the Nordic spa facilities as well as open access to all but two dining options. The inclusion of a laundry room on each floor was a plus for packing lighter. The smaller ship, 930 passengers, was a refreshing change from the typical large cruise ship. The emphasis on learning was evident in the daily lectures from experts and the educational overviews of the islands visited. It was refreshing to lounge at the pool and not to be constantly bothered by staff pushing alcohol. Instead staff mingled often with ice water and cool face cloths. The first ship to have an infinity pool on the back deck added a touch of daring to ones swimming experience. The staff from officers to cabin stewards was friendly and genuinely wanted your trip to be memorable. The Viking cruise line is a step above other lines! Read Less
