Hi all I have a Empress dinner question, I heard there are no formal nights do you know if this is true? Also is Empress like the rest where men wear slacks for dinner or are a nice pair of shorts ok? Thanks

I have only been on short sailings with the Empress and there were not formal nights. It does sound like people who have been on 7-8 night Cuba trips have had them. I will say we never bring formal wear and just dress nicely for dinner. There is still a no shorts policy, but they don’t turn people away for wearing them.

What I did like, and I hope they still do, is main room dining brunch on sea days. It was fantastic.

We are doing VC tours private Havana tours the first afternoon. The second day we are doing a Cuba Connections tour. Both offer different tours for about the same price (about $150 for up to 4 people). They have recommended itineraries, but you can also do your own customized tour. We figure the second day we will want to see different places than the first, or go back to select places that we can discuss. Both do currency exchange so you don’t have to do it at the port.

As as far as visas, I have looked at private options, including going to the Cuban embassy in DC, but they are more expensive than the ones Royal Caribbean does for you. Since we are departing the US, we need the visa coming from the US (even if you have a different country’s passport). The Cuban embassy charges $75 plus a $29 processing fee (minimum). Royal Caribbean charges $75 last time I looked. I think we are just going to do it through them.

We booked our Cuba excursions this week. We are doing a couple of private excursions during the day and the Tropicana the night we are there. Funny thing is, the Royal Caribbean excursion has two nights you can go to the Tropicana. Their tours also leave before we get to Havana.

Hi there, my Mum & I are very interested in taking a trip in Havana, can you tell me the name of the company you booked with? Did you look at the RCI website first, work out what excursions they have to offer then ask another company to do the same or similar? Also, will we need visas to get off the ship in Cuba? I have heard we will but I've heard RCI charge the earth for it. Can we sort it out before we go? Thanks in advance!
