Silver Discoverer Entertainment & Activities

As on most expedition ships, entertainment is more about the destinations, expert lectures and conversations with fellow travelers than Broadway-style shows and casinos. Daily briefings, lectures and recaps are held by the expedition team in the Main lounge and lecture theater on Deck 4, which seats up to 120 people. iPads are provided in case pillars obscure the view of visual presentations, and lectures can also be followed on the in-suite televisions.

Silver Discoverer Public Rooms

Working upward, on Deck 3 is the medical center, which is staffed by one doctor. (Charges apply for visits.) The lobby/reception area is on Deck 4; embarkation decks vary according to the tides, and gangways can be placed on Deck 3, Deck 4, Deck 5 or Deck 6.

The Discoverer Lounge on Deck 5 is a relaxing area that has a bar, tea and coffee station, piano and a library of travel and reference books. It leads on to the pool and promenade deck. Both the Main lounge and Discoverer Lounge provide ample space, even when the ship is carrying its full complement of passengers.

There is a sun deck on Deck 7, which has a shaded area and a few tables and chairs, but the key outdoor socializing area is around the pool.

Silver Discoverer Spa & Fitness

The ship has a small fitness center on Deck 7 that's equipped with eight exercise machines and weights. The beauty salon, also on Deck 7, offers four types of massages, Elemis facials, hairdressing and manicures. The pool, on Deck 5, is not deep -- ideal for a dip but not for serious lap-swimmers.

Silver Discoverer For Kids

This ship is not for children, and the minimum age to board the Zodiacs is 6, which means very small kids can't join in many of the excursions. There are no baby-sitting facilities or services, and only five cabins can accommodate a third person. However, adventurous, well-behaved teenagers would enjoy most of the active adventures and entertaining, informative lectures on offer.
