Maine Windjammer Association Overview

Maine Windjammer Association, not to be confused with Maine Windjammer Cruises, is made up of several independently owned and operated windjammer schooners. The small size of the ships makes nature -- including eagles, whales, seals and porpoises -- seem incredibly close. Each evening, the schooners drop anchor in a new harbor, and passengers have a chance to go ashore to explore. Each day generally includes about six hours of sailing.

Who goes on Maine Windjammer Association Cruise ships?

Ships that belong to Maine Windjammer Association draw a wide range of passengers; you'll meet honeymooners, retired couples, families with tween and teen children, and solo travelers. Each Windjammer ship has a minimum age requirement, with most vessels setting theirs between 12 and 16. Cruisers with mobility issues can rarely be accommodated, as most ships use ladders to move between decks.

Do I have to dress up on a Maine Windjammer Association cruise?

No. There is no dress code on any of the Maine Windjammer Association boats, and virtually everyone goes casual day and night.

What are Maine Windjammer Association's most popular activities?

People choose Maine Windjammer Association because they love sailing, so you'll find most passengers participating at one time or another in helping to sail the ships. You'll also find people helping to cook, set the table and wash dishes. At other times, people find a cozy spot on deck to read a book or just soak up the sun. There are neither organized activities onboard nor any shore excursions; people explore landside on their own time in the evenings doing whatever interests them.

Is everything free on a Maine Windjammer Association cruise?

Your cruise fare includes all sailing-related activities and meals. There are no shore excursions provided or offered, so you'll need to make your own plans on land. Beverages are also not provided; you'll need to bring your own. There's no Wi-Fi, and tipping is at your discretion.
