My husband and I were celebrating our 30th anniversary and wanted to have a special event. We had never sailed on a luxury cruise before, and Regent seemed to be the all around best. Mostly it was, but there were some issues. STAFF: Wonderful! Did not meet a single person who was not helpful, friendly and personable. They were all an amazing group. CABIN: Were pleased with the cabin and especially the walk-in closet. Could not get the tub to work. The shower temperature was either cold, lukewarm or super hot. The thermostat for our cabin did not work; the temperature was arctic and I was in sweaters and using the extra blankets. After a week and a half it was fixed. I was surprised by how small the veranda was. The bed was very comfortable. One evening the power to the bathroom and walk-in closet went out. It wasn't fixed until mid morning the next day. EXCURSIONS: Couldn't ask for more choices. The excursion staff ran things very smoothly. MAINTENANCE: The ship had several problems, in addition to the items mentioned above. Our corridor had a water leak. One of the main lounges had a persistent water leak and could not be totally used. FOOD: Overall, our favorite restaurant was the main dining room, Compass Rose. They had a nice standard menu and an interesting special menu each evening. I was very disappointed in the "premiere" restaurant, Prime 7. I was really looking forward to the king crab legs. They were in a huge pile and mostly not legs. Bland. On another evening I ordered prime rib and it was too tough to cut. The afternoon tea event was awesome - really spectacular offerings. The ship barbecue was good. I loved the small ship size which led to making some nice friends. But given some of the problems we experienced, I did feel disappointed that the whole trip wasn't top notch. Read Less

the ship was very good, and we especially enjoyed the quality of the food in the main dining room. The weather, less so. We boarded in 80 knot winds (really) that tore an Azamara ship off its moorings that almost struck us. Our cabin was spacious, and the closet space was a pleasant surprise. They have an Illy coffee maker, and should put out instructions to avoid messing it up the first few times you try. We only went to two of the shows (all shows are at 9:30 except the crew show on the last night; perhaps they might consider a 7:00pm show once or twice for those of us who wanted to eat later or earlier. Re shore excursions, they also need to ensure they put out maps for the day's location every day. It was missing most days, and would be useful. The fitness center was better than anticipated; they have water and Gatorade in the room, too. The machines are set to stop every 25 minutes, so you have to re-start it if you go longer. The weight machines are great, free weights up to 50 pounds, too. We wound up in port an added day due to high seas, missing our first stop as a result. We also couldn't dock in Monte Carlo due to dock damage there, so we were schlepped by bus for 3 hours from Marseilles. Not the ship's fault, but no rest for the weary at the end... Shore excursions were generally good to very good. We did Florence on our own, using the ship's "on your own" tour. They stopped at a leather factory, and also at a view overlook, which really cut into our time. If they had advised ahead of time what our arrival time in Florence would have been, we could have avoided sprinting to our assigned time at one of the galleries. The Monserrat optional tour was great (if you don't like steep, winding roads, be cautious) especially the lunch buffet on the way back. One of the best buffets I've had (and that's saying a lot). We booked an Alaska cruise only three weeks out!!! George Ramos was our booking agent and he was fantastic. He really worked hard for us on the airline arrangements, and we could not have asked for more. The cruise was just for my wife and I. We have cruised before on Seabourn and NCL. Overall we were really happy. They really do include almost everything in the price and that makes this style of cruising very relaxing. We booked into a Penthouse A suite on Deck 11. Check-in and boarding were pretty smooth. It did not quite have the personalized touch that Seaborn did with someone waiting for you in your room, but our Butler, Bejoy, was amazing. He really could not have been nicer or more competent. The room was very spacious, well-kept, and in good shape. The included excursions were really good. We just stuck with those. You have to pay an upcharge for some of the more high-end ones. The included wi-fi was a really nice perk. The one disappointment was the food. Granted my wife and I are pretty spoiled / lucky, but I just felt the food was a notch below where it should have been. There were some standouts like the king crab legs in Prime 7 and the filet / tenderlon was always good. But in general, although it all looked good on the menu, it just fell short. The foie gras (which I had twice) was well-cooked, but just completely bland. Same with the schnitzel one night. I had a porterhouse in Prime 7 and it was tasty but maybe just a 1/2 inch thick. Other examples would be the brussel sprouts in Compass Rose which were just served steamed with zero seasoning, a lobster bisque which was incredibly thin, or the lobster tails which always looked like they'd been under the heat lamp for a bit too long. I think we had our best experiences at Sette Mari with Efrem as our server. We were able to order canapes in our room but the timing (5-7) put it too close to dinner for us and the selection didn't vary and was kind of so-so. Enough on the food! We do enjoy wine and we found the selection included to be fine with us. Decent selection and all pretty good. We ordered a bottle of Groth one night and IMO they offer you these extra-cost wines at below-market prices (plus no tax and tip on them). We went to the show almost every night. They were very well done. One thing I noted though was there there was very little diversity in the cast, and that's not something I normally notice. As far as the clientele, it was mostly English-speaking. There were a number of kids on board (I think over 100!) and a number of multi-generational groups travelling together. I did notice that the ship never really felt crowded though. You could almost always get a seat at whatever bar, lounge, or restaurant you wanted. (Exceptions were Prime 7 and Chartreuse, but that's to be expected.) All in all, this was a five-star cruise that I think was let down by the quality of the dining experience. And even then, the menu, the setting, and the service were all great, it just came down to some pretty bland dishes from the kitchen. We would do Regency again if the schedule drove us there (like this time), but may try Seabourn again or Crystal next time. Read Less

I should start by saying that this is my first cruise experience. We booked using a travel agent. We had the following requirements: great food, not a lot of kids, and not a "party" boat. This cruise definitely checked all the boxes for us! Cabin:We upgraded to a concierge Suite on the 10th floor. It was so spacious. We had a king size bed, walk in closet and even a sitting area. We had a bathtub with wonderful Loccitane products as well and even a balcony with enough room to have two chairs and a small table. Dining: The food was fabulous! We ate at all the options that they had! The pool bar had burgers, etc. Prime 7 has steaks and seafood. Compass Rose is open Breakfast lunch and dinner and has a great variety. And Sierra Mar ( My favorite) is italian and Chartreuse is French. I HIGHLY recommend making dinner reservations at Prime 7 and Chartreuse. These did book up on our 7 day cruise and the others are first come first served. ALL THE FOOD AND DRINKS were included. Not just the beer and wine but everything! Service: This was unlike anything I have experienced. Everyone that works for this ship is very nice and so accommodating. Pretty much anything that I asked for, they would make happen. For instance, we had a steward named Gregory that we met on the first day. He asked if there was anything that we needed for our room or mini bar. I asked for wine for the mini bar and he even asked what kind that I preferred and made sure that the mini bar was stocked with my favorite wine the whole trip. This was a nice touch. Ship: Was very clean, and very well appointed. It had a luxurious feel without feeling stuffy. Shore excursions: We did the Bering Sea- Crab Fishermans Tour in Ketchikan. I would HIGHLY recommend this! It was one of my favorite excursions that we did!!! Very informative and it was interesting to see what the day and the life of a crab fisherman would be like. We also got to see A LOT of bald eagles! Mendenhall Glacier and whale Quest in Juneau. Very fun! We got some great pics of the glacier and it was a beautiful day so it was nice to be on the water. We didn't get to see a lot of whales though. Venture to Glacer Point was amazing but I wouldn't not recommend to someone who doesn't like to walk a lot. It is a pretty far walk to the Glacier after the canoe ride but for myself who likes this, it was great! It was really cool to be soo close to the glacier. The Sea otters, Raptors and Bears, in Sitka was a little disappointing. We thought it was a little more like seeing Bears and Eagles in the natural habitat but it was more like visiting a zoo. We did see Sea Otters but couldn't get close enough to get good pictures. I do have to make clear that ALL the excursions were NOT free. There are a lot that are but those ones didn't really appeal to us. We were given a discounted rate but still, that was a little misleading. Overall, this was a great experience! It was an expensive cruise, but we felt that it was worth every penny! We are already looking forward to booking another cruise with Regent! Read Less

I specifically chose this cruise for the new ship and the itinerary. Neither disappointed. The ship is absolutely beautiful and anyone who reviews it less than 5 stars I really wonder about... So book with confidence for a luxury ship - your stateroom, pool, and public areas. See my stateroom review. I would agree with other reviewers service was so-so. Some of the staff were excellent - would address you by name, have a great conversation and remembered your preferences. Those staff members made the cruise super enjoyable. Other staff members, mostly assistants in specialty, staff in the main dining room and at breakfast were fairly checked out and didn't really care. The complimentary beverage selection was very good and fairly large, we never felt a need to order a paid item. There was a huge variation on the wine availability. Some staff would only serve the "one" featured wine. 3 ports in we learned from another passenger who had complained to f&b manager about beverages and food, learned and told us they had a wine list that you could order from. Once we discovered that and ordered our wine by name it was much more pleasant. Other than staff convenience and budget, I'm not sure why they keep that such a well guarded secret. So be sure to ask to see the ship's wine list! Food was average. While the menu was massive in the main dining room, the quality and taste was average. I will throw kudos their way - we ate in the main dining room only twice on a 12 night cruise and both times they allowed my husband to order a dish he made up with ingredients they had on board. That, in itself, says something about the ship. Specialty restaurant food was equally just average. The chef at the French restaurant comes out and chats with each table, a very nice touch. I will say almost every passenger we met had a different opinion on food quality, so it must be driven by what you are accustomed to. We live in a large city and eat in top restaurants so perhaps our expectations are high. The pool buffet offered a rotating menu and the food was great. They did a specialty buffet on sea days. Eating in specialty restaurants more than once is not a problem. If the main dining room is busy they will offer that up as an option or ask to get in again once you board. Theater shows were good - no problem getting a seat with good sight lines - the theater has ample seating. Avoid the balcony as another passenger suggested. Lounge entertainment is all geared to those passengers 70 plus with no variation. Regents has some work to do to appeal to anyone under 70 and should really focus some time on that. Their target audience goes to bed after the show (10:15). By 11:30 only the one front desk person is up. There were times when we wanted to be at the casino and it was closed. They have improved since our last cruise - now in one lounge they have a self service iPad that you can play music from. We met the 2 other couples on board under 70 and made our own fun. Our takeaway is sail with a group of friends if you are under 70. Pool was heated to about 90 and very enjoyable as we had fall type weather with plenty of sunshine. The nice thing with the older crowd, there were plenty of chaise lounges at the pool. Pool service was good and it was very enjoyable to just relax and read. Canyon Ranch needs to ease off the push to sell products. I was a bit disappointed in my ritual massage/scrub experience I booked with them - not quite up to par. Same for hair salon - I paid $120 for a blow out for short hair and got shamed because I didn't want to order Kerastase products - hello I can get them in the US. Shore excursions we did all private, except for 3, as we knew there would be a lot of older folks on board. I loved the overnights we had in two ports as you could really get out and explore in much more depth or enjoy a nice dinner off ship. We did the dinner at Chateau de Tetre - very nice tour and appetizers. Dinner was ok - chicken. If I did it again I would have dined in Bodeaux. We also took the Santiago de Compostela tour with the ship - I would not recommend - there was no need to be in town so long and the food was again a bit of disappointment (chicken). Lastly chef market tour and tapas cooking class. Can't recommend that either - we grilled bread with olive oil on it. I don't quite understand the culinary kitchen - it takes up quite a bit of real estate but all of the classes except the one I took were booked 10 months prior to sailing and there were not that many in total. I would think they should use that venue every day as it is a revenue generator. I did hear from another passenger that the class she took they actually made something. I booked all of my tours on Tours By Locals. The ship's schedule allowed ample time in port to explore. I could not find a tour guide for St Malo so we took a cab to see St Michel and Cannacle. It worked out great and was only 300 euro. We could not tender in St Jean de Lux so we had 2 days in Bilbao. We got off the ship that night for a local dinner at the port town which was quite fun. We took the air credit and booked our own first class air so no issue with that. Langham London was lovely and had a great location. We came in several days early and the hotel worked with our 2 reservations and kept us in the same upgraded room. Regents paid for breakfast and the transfer to Southampton, which was about a 1 1/2 to 2 hour bus ride. In Barcelona, super simple to get off the ship and take a cab to the airport. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we were tired of being nickeled and dimed to death with other cruise lines & the Itinerary was one we had not experienced before, in addition my sister-in-law recently lost her husband and we invited her to join us. We went to some very nice ports and a few ugly ports... Guatemala and Ecuador. I have to say that this was a very enjoyable cruise except for the lack of bands and dancing facilities. For some reason the last time they rebuilt the ship some idiot decided that two poles in the middle of the only small dance floor on the ship was a good idea. Whenever more than three couples got on the floor it was impossible to move around. Also there is only one musical band on the ship. That means that there is zero dancing anywhere on the ship whenever the band is required for accompanying any performer of the production staff and dancers. This is ridiculous and cheap for a cruise company that makes a big deal out of being all inclusive. I have one really major complaint: We booked a penthouse cabin for three adults, there are only a dozen penthouse cabins supposedly set up for three passengers on the ship. The problem is that the cabins are just like all the others. Zero accommodations made for the third passenger. Here is a list of the problems associated with this setup: 1.) The pull-out couch had a lousy mattress. We insisted and got a real mattress (6 inchs thick) assigned to the bed that had to be removed and replaced each and every night for the 29 day cruise as it would not fit in the couch. Once the pull out couch and mattress are in place the bar and refrigerator cannot be used as the cabin is too narrow to open the refrigerator. It also make the balcony impossible to use once the bed is made as you have to crawl over the bed to open it. Because of this each morning I was forced to remove the matress, and then store it between the couch and the window, temporarily blocking half of our Balcony view every morning to give us access to the Balcony. 2.) The glassware had two of everything in the cabinet upon our arrival. We had to request glassware and stemware for three occupants & several times after using the bar the glassware was not replaced properly while we were away for a show or dinner. 3.) We paid for Butler service, overall the service was excellent except... when canapé's were delivered every night they were always delivered in multiples of 2, not 3, I attempted to explain this to our Butler, who seemed to speak very good English, but after numerous attempts gave up and divided what he brought as best we could. It was almost a game to decide which of the three of us was being shorted a selection each evening. In addition several times I had to request replenishment of beer and alcohol. 4.) If a cabin is properly set up for three, there should be end tables with drawers for three, not two, instead of a lamp table with NO storage for the third person. 5.) Inadequate storage space for 3, for a 29 day cruise. Of course there was an inadequate number of clothes hangers for 3 people for the cruise. It took several request to get enough into our walk-in closet. 6.) Inadequate lighting at the bed for the third person. On this ship, the Navigator, having a third person in a Penthouse suite is NOT advisable. By the end of the cruise, because of the inadequate facilities, we determined never to attempt a third person again, at least not in this suite. It seemed to me that when you add a third person for over $10,000 you should expect better. Our cruise was supposed to stop at Catalina Island. Upon embarkation, we were informed that we were NOT stopping in Catalina, but because of some problem, yet to be explained, we instead went to the stupid port of Ensenada. I believe they waited to tell us this upon embarkation because numerous people would have been on the Cruise lines case because of the change. I would have been one of them. There has been no mention of refunding some of our money because we lost out on a port all of us really wanted to go to. Excursions; Having excursions included in the price of the cruise is a good thing. You don't have to worry about getting back to the ship on time if you stay with the guide. You also don't have to do the amount of planning and coordination that is required to do them on your own. We did run across several minor issues that I felt happened because the Cruise line was being cheap. All cruisers paid a lot of money for this trip. This kind of stuff should not happen: 1.) They give you all the water you want to carry when you leave the ship, OK, who wants to carry more than one bottle each. On several occasions once on the coach no additional water was provided by the cruise ship and after a 6 to 7 hour tour of very warm and humid conditions having to pay a couple bucks for local water should not happen. On more than one occasion when we reached our destination on the coach the tour/guide had water for sale at ridiculous prices. Why is water not included in the tours? Good question... 2.) We signed up for "Lunch with an Astronaut" at the Kennedy space center. The lunch with the Astronaut was cancelled, but everyone still thought lunch was going to be provided, just that the Astronaut would not be there. Wrong, we had to buy our lunch after being ticked to have a lunch provided. Can we say, cheap. 3.) We went to a tour that was advertised as a drive through an animal park in Guatemala consisting of driving through the park in 6 passenger covered jeeps and station wagons.... Wrong, we drove through in our 50 passenger motor coach that barely made the turns and photography was hampered by the fact that the windows were glary and would not open, and of course if you were seated on the wrong side of the bus it was impossible to see, much get good photo's.... bummer OK, not so bad, but we were promised a lunch. The restaurant made sandwiches and burgers that all of us thought should have been provided, but Wrong, our provided lunch consisted of a small cup of fries and a local beer. If you wanted more, you had to purchase it on your own dime. Another cheap play by the Cruise. Not sounding quite so all inclusive is it. Many of the excursions were excellent, but not all of them. Whenever I have paid for an excursion with non all inclusive lines, I got really nice excursions. Regent could do a much better job and stop being so cheap. I also feel they should pre-tip the guides so they did not look for handouts at the end of there tour. Read Less

We chose Regent primarily because we wanted to try an all-inclusive cruise to see if they are worth the price and Regent got great reviews. Overall, we loved the boat and the crew. Service was generally off the chain good, but I wouldn't spring for a penthouse just to get a butler. Ours was wonderful, but really didn't do much that a good steward wouldn't have done. We just aren't that needy as travelers, but if you are, it might be a good spend. Getting on and off the boat was handled exceptionally well in our view. Not just at embark/disembark, but shore excursions. Literally, hundreds of people were moved smoothly and comfortably every morning. They were even handicapped that most of our ports were tendered, not docked, and the crew made it look easy. Food on the boat was generally good, but not as good as I expected, based on other reviews. I frequently found both fish and steaks over cooked. Other dishes like pasta and risotto leaned toward salty and over seasoned. There were certainly exceptions where fare exceeded all expectations. The French based Chartreuse was our favorite - we ate there twice on the trip and food was properly cooked and seasoned both times. Next, was the main dining Compass Rose, where the chef's specialty menu was usually the best. Especially, good were oxtail soup and herb crusted lamb rack. At the restaurant bottom for us, was the Prime 7 steak house. My medium rare filet was a hockey puck - over done, under seasoned, tough and dry. I do much better at home. The wife's halibut was likewise over and dry. This is not upscale dining. All drinks are included and the bartenders are fantastic! Some of the best bar service we've had anywhere. Drinks were just about perfect. What else? Let's pick nits - this is an "upscale" cruise line. The on board included wi-fi is useless most of the time. Lighting in the bathrooms is far too dim for 50 something eyes. The stateroom temperature is very difficult to control - going quickly from sticky to meat locker. The bottom line is always would you do a Regent cruise again. We talked to lots of Regent repeaters on the trip and we always asked them why Regent? Everyone, said first the all-inclusive concept. One price and you are done and you know that number long before you board. Second, great service is what brings customers back. For us the answer is YES. We will go with Regent again. It's worth the money. However, we stop short of many others who say they won't ever travel with anyone else. Read Less

We booked this cruise for our 25th wedding anniversary and all in all it was a wonderful trip, a trip of a lifetime. We saw so many beautiful and wonderful places, and met many wonderful people. Our Regent experience was, with a few notable exceptions, as good as the one 7 years ago in the Mediterranean. I will bullet point the positive and negatives below, and have, of course, given these to Regent as well in their post-cruise survey. Positives: The Crew/Service - the staff and crew on board were absolutely wonderful. Everyone went out of their way to try to get to know you and to exceed your needs. The crew members were exceptionally interactive compared to our past cruise experiences, playing games and taking the time to chat with passengers frequently. The wait and bar staff were always welcoming, remembering favorite items and going out of their way to accommodate (had a bartender go ashore to find us lychees and had our cabin stewardess always find pears for me). The level of service we experiences was exceptional. The cabin/ship - this ship was refurbished top to bottom last fall and the cabin and public spaces were beautiful Shipboard activities - this ship had more on board activities than I had seen on previous cruises. We really enjoyed the team trivia, crew lawn game challenges, the deck by deck "block party", and the shipboard picnic Business Class Air "included" - when flying to Asia this was a must! Post Cruise extension to Seim Reap - this was my absolute favorite part of the whole trip. Even though it was blazing hot and humid ( felt I was raining down sweat), the hotel they put us in (Borei Angkor Hotel), the guides for the torus of the Angkor complex, the cultural dinner and show and hotel spa were all first class. Luncheons at the pool grill - while the food overall was what I would call "meeting expectations" (with a few exceptions, breakfasts - meh, Dinners generally good), the pool grill stood out as providing a consistently good product and providing different "theme" each day Opportunities Wine Selections - this was a marked difference from our last Regent experience. The wine selections were not only fewer, but most were of much reduced quality than what we expected from Regent. Also on a few occasions they would run out of some of the better wines leaving only the poorer quality options. There was no wine list per se, bu the stewards would come around and offer the "red or white of they day" and if this was not what you wanted, you could ask for something else but had to play 20 questions to see if they had what you wanted. Many of our fellow passengers also commented that they felt that Regent was cost cutting in this department. Entertainment - while some of the theater shows were very good, especially the Chinese cultural show, the entertainment overall was what I would call "sleepy". Now they may say this is what their clientele likes but I beg to differ. People were jumping and closing down the bar on dance party night, and a group of people I talked to had found a way to create a new pop/rock playlist on the "background music" system in the lounge only to find it deleted a few days later, so there is definitely an appetite for more upbeat options. Go ahead and keep the "Captain and Tennille" show if you must, but don't have it in all the lounges all the time. Docking Locations - I'm not sure if this could be helped in all instances, but I know that in many of our ports, our ship was docked in what I would call "remote" locations, thus requiring long shuttle or cab rides into towns as opposed to any "walk off"options. This may have been a cost cutting option, poor planning, or luck of the draw, but it was most apparent in Hong Kong, where we were docked out in Kowloon, while the sister Oceania ship was docked right downtown. Tour Timing - some of this may be related to the above, but many of the torus we were on required long bus rides (2-4 hours plus) just to get to the tour sites. Some tours took more time to get there than the actual tour itself. Once we did get there we did enjoy the tours very much, but often felt rushed and "pulled through" the sites in order for the guides to keep on schedule and get us back in time, thus diminishing the overall experience. We and many folks we talked to actually ended up cancelling tours later in the itinerary because we couldn't stand the thought of another 5 hours on a bus. Last Day Experience - once we arrived in Bangkok from Seim Reap, we were joined by the passengers who had gone to Chang Mai and taken to the Sheraton Orchid Hotel. Here is where thins fell down a bit. We all had early flights and got to the hotel before noon, where we were told check in would not be until 4PM. Unlike in Seim Reap, where they had arranged for half day tours for us while we awaited check in, here we were placed in a ballroom, and given no information on where to do, what we could do, no tour was offered (unless you wanted to buy one from the hotel), nor was any food (save for peanuts and chips) offered. Added to this was that the Regent staff were not terribly helpful when asked about restaurant options, or possible places to go during the downtime. Basically we fended for ourselves and several of us jumped on trip advisor for food and entertainment options and passed the word along. So all that being said, we did have a great trip, a wonderful time and created lasting memories. Read Less

Regent - Mariner Deck 8 Penthouse w/ Butler Service It was our first cruise in several years and we made the decision to save up and go on Regent. We read great things about them on line and were excited about the experience. The first few days we were really pleased, it met and exceeded all of our expectations. The rough seas hit us off Honduras and the service level seemed to fall off (understandable). But what surprised us is that all of the activities seemed to not change or adapt to the situation. They did not seem to have a plan for keeping us occupied while it rained and the pool, golf, etc were closed. Unfortunate, as we were stuck in our room for two days reading and watching movies -- thank god they have an excellent selection of on demand movies in room that were free of charge with room package. We ate dinner in the French restaurant (Signatures) and it was superb. The steakhouse (Prime 7) was a disappointment, but still very nice. The service was top notch, but if you are expecting a steak shipboard that compares with Morton's or the Capital Grill, etc in the US - well, this is not it. The cuts are thinner and not the same quality. BUT it still was a very good meal. Shows were very good, we also really enjoyed the lectures on board about the culture of each country we visited the history, etc. Out land excursions were outstanding. First, if you have a chance to do this tour, you MUST see the Mayan ruins and attend the lecture the day before so you know what you are seeing. Our tour guide was very experienced, had worked on archaeological teams that work on the sites and taught a college course on Mayan history -- it was a great day, we learned a lot and had an experience that we will always remember. By far, the best beach day we have ever had was at Norwegian/Regent's private isleand Harvest Caye. We went all out and rented a bungalow on the beach and it was well worth it. The ocean was tremendous, the food very good and having an air conditioned space to escape to, listen to our music on the bluetooth speakers etc was tremendous. Canyon Ranch was a real disappointment as an on ship Spa experience. The facility was small and the staff seemed overwhelmed and rushed. This is s trip we would take again, but probably not too soon, it was pricey. Read Less

We chose this line for its diverse itinerary for our 10th anniversary celebration. The Voyageur had just been renovated and so a refreshed ship added to the draw to be on it. Our suite was lovely and having a glass enclosed shower was a delight. Initial problems the first few days such as slow dining service were due to one-third of the staff being new to the ship and the new use of technology in the main and specialty restaurants the staff had to use for the menu selections. The CEO addressed the passengers' concerns at a special meeting. Daytime activities were limited and this is an area where improvement is needed. The shore excursions were a mixed bag ranging from great to forget taking two. Beward the Wadi Rum truck excursion! One had a difficult climb onto the bed of the truck only to find nothing to hang on to. On the last hill, out driver gunned the engine and I was almost thrown out of the truck bed. My fall was prevented by a fellow passenger. The vehicles are unsafe. Overall we were pleased with Regent and booked next year's November cruise on the Navigator. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the destinations and the fact that the ship remained in St. Petersburg 3 days. We also had not been to any of the destinations before so enjoyed the ease of tours each day. We were pleased with embarkation and disembarkation with one exception. We purchased transport to ship and back to airport. When we were leaving for home, we walked out of the terminal area to realize we had no clear understanding of what bus to board. It turned out to be very simple as the buses were numbered to match the numbers called to leave the ship. We felt our suite 651 was in a wonderful location on the ship mid ship near everything we needed, library, spa, laundry. Laundry on board is a great thing to have on a two week cruise. They made laundry easy by providing soap and everything. Our cabin was large compared to other cruises but we expected that based on the online information and cost. Entertainment was good for a smaller ship. Cabin and room service were very good. Ports were spectacular and the tours were good but not great. Tours are for the most part are included in the cost up front, there were some tours that were at added cost. Tours were like other tours we have taken when traveling on other cruise lines. Bus, guide with headset most of the time. Tour of Catherine's Place was more controlled and more enjoyable than some others were. Tour of Peterhoff is a must do. Hermitage was very crowded and not well controlled. So this is the last season for the Voyager and she is going to dry dock to be updated. Will look to she what they do to update this ship. The two negatives for us were dining - we felt service was poor and food quality needs improvement. We did like dining on our schedule not a preset time. "upscale" Steak place was also not impressive. We canceled the French place based on the menu. Ship needs updates and is schedule to have work. If you drink very much alcohol, this cruise is more cost effective as it is included the price. It was very nice not to worry about using your cabin card every time you wanted a beverage. Highly recommend upgrading to business air class if it is not included. We felt good money spent and actually were in first not business. Don't forget to take advantage of the airline lounges if you fly first or business. Overall based on cost, we were a bit underwhelmed with the quality of entire experience. We will consider another Regent cruise if we are going to similar places we have not been before, maybe the orient is next!! Read Less

My husband and I sailed to Alaska on Regent Cruise Lines' Navigator. Like many cruisers, I did a lot of homework prior to choosing a line. I encourage folks to read these reviews to help with clothing, expectations on excursions and the like. I want to start with the good. The scenery is absolutely incredible and the Navigator's small size allowed us to get to ports that some of the larger cruise lines could not. Speaking of ship size, we loved the smaller number of passengers that allowed us to get to know some really great people. The excursions were very enjoyable and Regent had plenty to choose from. Kudos! My husband is a real foody and one of the reasons we chose Regent was that our travel agent recommended it for the quality of food. Our favorite was Seti Mari and it's great Italian fare but we kept hearing about how good their signature restaurant 7 was. Well, we were disappointed to say the least. Foie Gras was 1) not good, 2) a spec on our plate and 3) the accompanying wine was subpar to say the least. I believe they sell it at WALMART! With that being said, we did not go back to 7. Breakfast in La Veranda was very good. The entertainment was great and the Navigator Lounge was always a blast. I think that any Alaskan cruise is going to end up being pricey. Regent is no exception, BUT it is great not worrying about tipping or any added expenses because all that is paid for up front. That allowed us to really enjoy ourselves. Will we cruise with them again? Yes. But I hope that they read these reviews and adjust some of there ways. Read Less

Regent Seven Seas Voyager Cruise Sunday, 30 Sep. 12 We left home at 02.45, to make 05.00 check-in at LHR, which is a downside to booking flights through the tour operator. Usually we fly in a couple of days before, enabling us to fly at a more sociable time. We are flying to Barcelona, where we should be met and transferred to the ship. We have been very lucky in gaining access to the BA lounge, as I have a frequent flyer card, with Cathay Pacific, but I've never flown with them. On arrival at the airport, we waited a few minutes for the valet parking service, then handed over our keys and took our bags to fast bag drop, before quickly clearing security and heading for the lounge, to enjoy a decent breakfast and Bucks Fizz (Mimosa). These lunges are wonderfully quiet places to relax and take advantage of the free Wi-Fi. We had a very comfortable flight, though slightly delayed due to stormy weather around southern Spain, but arrived about 10.30 and now wait in arrivals for other passengers. We were offered a breakfast roll and a choice of hot and cold drinks. We arrived just a few minutes late, but t glorious sunshine, which followed 36 hours of heavy rain, so were really very lucky! Our bags came through pretty fast and we were met by Regent reps, who took our bags and escorted us to a bus. The bus journey was very quick and our ship was berthed at the Trade Cetre, as opposed to the main cruise terminal, where all the other cruise ships were docked. This enabled pax to take a short walk into the city, raher than taking the bus or taxi. We arrived a bit early so we had to wait to check in, so Rosy and I went outside to sit in the warm sunshine, which was a really nice surprise as the forecast wasn't good. Check-in soon commenced and we were soon boarding our temporary home. No intrusive photographers to avoid, just a short walk and a champagne greeting, though Regent was a bit stingy with the measure! One sip and it was gone! Therefore, we had to walk around the circle and get another one! We boarded at about mid-day and suites wouldn't be available until 14.30, so we had a buffet lunch, found some recliners on deck 12 and started to work our way through the cocktail menu. Rosy went off to find the library and I had a look around the ship. Time soon passed and we were able to access our suite, which was originally an 'H' guarantee, but were upgraded to F 872, the same size, but a couple of decks higher. It was a quiet location near the stern, but very handy for the laundry room. The use of the laundry facilities was free for self-service. My baggage soon arrived, but Rosy's was delayed, so I went to find it, which was easy. There was plenty of storage space, in drawers, cupboards and plenty of hangers. We had a separate dressing room and a large bathroom with shower and tub. The tub also had a handheld shower fitting. There were good supplies of toiletries, including lemon-scented soap. The bed was large and extremely comfortable and we slept very well. I often struggle to sleep, particularly when the sea is rough, but no problems this time. Our suite was decorated with balloons and a 'happy birthday' banner, due to Rosy letting slip that it was my birthday. I also had a postcard from Regent, with birthday wishes and presenting a bottle of bubbly and a small cake. We didn't drink the 'fizz' until about the fourth day, as we'd had more than enough cocktails and wanted to enjoy and 'remember' the evening! Following pre-cruise advice, we had made advance reservations for the speciality restaurants for the first two nights, thereby giving us further chances later in the cruise, should we so wish. We had also pre-booked our free shore excursions. For the first night we had booked Dinner in Prime 7, the steak-house. We both had 'surf and turf', a 6oz fillet steak, plus lobster tail. It was very good, but no better than we had enjoyed on other cruise lines. We were very tired after our early start, so we headed off to bed at around 10.30, rather than seeking out entertainment. Day 2 Marseilles We awoke late, resulting in a hurried breakfast on a glorious warm morning. For our first Regent excursion we had booked a half-day tour of Marseilles and Cassis, which included a stop at the pretty seaside village of Cassis, accessed by a road train. I bought some delicious croissants from a local Boulanger. The traffic in Marseilles was very bad, mostly due to extensive harbour regeneration work, as the local tourist board were trying to change the image form industrial city to tourism destination, by introducing cultural activities. We got back to the ship just in time for a buffet lunch, with cocktails, at the Terrace Restaurant. We became very fond of the rear section, which was very quiet and offered excellent views. We decided to stay on-board for the afternoon, to drink cocktails and to play putting, croquet and shuffle-board. We had booked dinner in Signatures, the French Restaurant, which Rosy really enjoyed, but I thought it no better than the Compass Rose, the standard restaurant, where reservations weren't required, or available. Day 3 Cannes -- another beautifully sunny morning We enjoyed a more leisurely breakfast in our favoured aft location. Most mornings I had the same food, home-made muesli and fresh strawberries, together with fruit juice and coffee. Occasionally I had the daily special, pancakes or waffles. One day I had a rather disappointing omelette. This was our first tender port, so picked up bus tickets in the theatre and then waited our turn. Our guide took us on what was called a 'Gourmet Tour'. I'm not sure why it was named 'Gourmet', but it did include visits to two wineries for some tasting. At the first stop we enjoyed a very informative wine-tasting, though we seemed to be running out of time, so it felt a bit rushed. We enjoyed some good wines, at a wine distributor but maybe in view of the time of day, late morning, I should have used the spitting bucket more, rather than drinking mine and Rosy's wine! The second stop saw us visiting a Chateau and sitting around large tables, sampling various savoury chutneys on crackers, together with assorted wines. On our return to the ship, we were disappointed to find the lunch buffet close, so apart from room service; eating options were very limited, which we feel unnecessary on such a premium cruise. After our snack lunch, we returned to shore for Rosy to swim in the sea and me to take advantage of the free Wi-Fi in the customer 'lounge', which was of poor quality, then we walked around the harbour, gazing at the large yachts, wondering how people can afford such luxuries. We returned to the ship for a wallow in the Jacuzzi and pre-dinner cocktails. There was a wonderful sunset and it was a balmy evening. Life couldn't be better, thank you Lord. We were going to Dine al fresco in the open air, on Deck 11, eating Italian food, but the wind was a little cool, so we joined another couple inside. We had met them in the Steak-house, so it was nice to meet again. Again I was surprised that he wasn't drinking any wine and it turned out he was a recovering (20 years ago) alcoholic. It must have been difficult seeing everyone guzzling away. I had previously read that Chateau Neuf Du Pape was available on the included wine list, but hadn't seen it, so I asked and out it came. I never looked back and drank it for the rest of the cruise, sharing my good fortune with others! Day 4 Livorno I was surprised to see us dock in Livorno, very close to the City, as on previous cruises we had always berthed in the industrial area, requiring a bus ride to the dock gates. This time we could walk and our location was much more attractive. We enjoyed our usual breakfast, and then took our Lucca and wine tour. We tried to sway to the Lucca cycling tour, but it was full. As it turned out we were fortunate as it rained that morning, the only rain for the entire cruise, so we were glad to return to our bus and the visit to Buonamico wine shop and winery, where we enjoyed a tour and a tasting. I found a nice comfy armchair to sit and watch the world go by, whilst sampling. At one point I was brought a large sample of Grappa, a sort of Schnapps. It was quite strong and I felt a bit sleepy on the return trip. It was strange to see the Carnival Breeze also in port, knowing that my good friend John Heald was so near, yet so far. We hoped to meet but he was too busy. I had told our CD that John was nearby and he admitted to being an avid reader of the JH Blog and asked me to invite him for lunch. Unfortunately he couldn't make it, but he and John did meet on the Breeze, the next day at Civitavecchia. He was thrilled to have met John and been mentioned on the FB page. After lunch, on board, we walked into the city for an hour or so, and then returned to the ship. We had a very enjoyable dinner in the Compass Rose. Day 5 Rome As usual for Rome, we had an early start. We had booked the Roma Express, a private train (several cruise lines had coaches on this train). Passengers are bussed about a mile to a special station, where the train awaits, and then a non-stop journey to Rome's St Pietro station. This could be an excellent trip, but give me the standard train any day. If I had paid the $70 for the trip, I'd have felt cheated. We usually pay 11 Euros for a return train journey, with free city transportation for Rome included. Ok we have to walk to station (about 10-15 minutes), but we have plenty of room on the train and they usually run to time. We waited on the 'Special' train for about 15 minutes, then it crawled around the docks, before racing to Rome, but it wasn't any quicker than the normal service and there was very little legroom. The return departure was late, due I think to passengers missing. It was very frustrating and there was no communication. Clearly it is a good option for those who worry about missing the ship, but for intrepid travellers, it's a waste of time and money! Day 6 Portofino Portofino is another tender port, but one of the prettiest I have been to and well worth a visit, albeit that the tenders take a long time. We had an afternoon boat trip as our tour, so left the ship straight after breakfast and walked around the coast to the next village (about 30 minutes). The local authority has constructed a good path, offering excellent views. It is possible to walk a lot further, but we wanted to have lunch on the ship, and then return for our tour, but as we had such a long wait for a tender, as did many others, we were all late for the tour. The boat trip took us to another small harbour, but we found it a bit tedious and were glad to get back to Portofino. That night we returned to the Italian restaurant for our dinner, which was excellent again, helped by drinking copious amounts of red wine. Day 7 Monte Carlo Monte Carlo was our last port and we also stayed overnight on the ship, before disembarking on day 8. We had arranged a tour of Villefrance and the Chateau of Baroness Rothschild. Villefrance is a pretty harbour and town and is a popular tender port for cruises. There were some lovely views of the coastline from our tour bus. We stayed in the town for about 45 minutes, before leaving for the Rothschild home, surrounded by beautiful gardens and a dancing fountain. We were given a guided tour of the house and gardens, before returning to the ship for lunch. In the afternoon we walked around the harbour and went to see some vintage cars, before returning to pack our bags. We had an excellent dinner in Compass Rose, preceded by the crew show, which was quite good fun. Day 8 Departure via Nice On our final day, we had opted for a Riviera Tour on the way to Nice airport. This tour also included a somewhat tedious tour of Nice, when all I wanted was to get to the airport. Mind you, we had plenty of time, once we got to the airport. It was well organised, as porters met the bus and took our bags inside the terminal, where we checked in easily. Once again, we were able to enjoy the comfort and peace of the lounge, before our short flight back to London. This was one of best ever cruise experiences, helped by good fortune, good weather and a premium ship, but we didn't consider the cruise to be particularly good value for money. Additional comments The entertainment wasn't very exciting and lacked variety. We don't particularly like shows, so all but the 'Beatles' tribute was of no interest. There was an excellent trio, who played and sang well. There was also a pianist who played soft music in the Horizon lounge. We missed the comedians and variety of the bigger ships. Sometimes it was difficult to get a drink, without actually visiting the bar, particularly on the pool deck. Maybe this was because they were included! At times they needed more bar staff. The coffee was disappointing, apart from that served in the coffee lounge on deck 5. It was useful to be able to collect free bottled water before leaving on tours. The Champagne wasn't as nice as we're used to drinking at home. Some of the wine wasn't to our liking and they immediately tried to sell us an expensive bottle. I wasn't amused. The water temperature in the hot tubs varied enormously and the staff seemed unwilling or unable to do anything about it. Rather surprisingly, whilst we found all the serving staff very friendly, some of the officers were not so. One officer ignored my 'good morning'. Read Less

We have previously travelled with mainstream cruise lines such as P&O, Princess, Celebrity, RCI etc and thought we would try a more expensive '5 star' cruise. While many elements of the ship and the cruise were excellent and merited the extra cost, there were some surprising negatives also. Food varied from acceptable to excellent, with the exception of the Signatures restaurant - pretentious menu and average to poor food! The main restauarant was great for couples with lots of tables for 2 by the windows! The food was often great - lunches in the main restaurant were particularly unusual and excellently flavoured; also the portions were not too big which is great at lunchtime. Occasionally, however, there were some very odd and definitely second class offerings - one afternoon tea, the only sandwiches were cheap potted meat or jam (I haven't been offered a jam sandwich since I was a child when it was definitely food for the poor!!!) The upsides first:- Wonderful cabin - spacious, well-equipped, good balcony, beautifully furnished. Some things we particularly liked were the curtained area for sitting, separated from the bedroom - this allowed me to get up earlier than my husband and to read and use the balcony without disturbing him!; the walk-in closet with lots of hanging space and drawers; big bathroom with very big shower area, lovely toiletries and lots of space. (We had a cabin with only a shower and this gives you lots of room if, like us, you do not want a bath. Great staff - friendly throughout the ship, including the officers; nothing too much trouble; efficient and helpful. Even the tour staff were good and this is often one area where cruise ships are poor!! Lots of space in the ship - no queues for anything, even the buffet restaurant had lots of tables whenever you wanted to eat. The ship felt quiet and uncrowded throughout the cruise - very relaxing. No attempts to keep selling to you, which is unusual - no photographers constantly in your face trying to take photos and sell them to you, no pressure to use the shops. This is all in line with the fact that everything is included so you don't constantly have to show your cruise card. At the same time, the staff were great in keeping you supplied with food and drink - no need to chase them at all. It makes for a very relaxing time. Tours were good - no feeling that, because they are free, they are a lesser class than those sold on other cruise ships. Ports of call were all great - some a bit busy but that is the only possible negative, and is not RSSC's fault!! Downsides:- The tours were all early morning and nearly all scheduled at similar times. This made a few issues - overcrowding and lines waiting to disembark. The worst point, however, was that the mealtimes were not adjusted to take account of the tours. So, the restaurant was only open in the morning as you were reporting to the tour - you could only have a sit-down meal if you were staying on the ship! You had to use the buffet (sometimes cold food!!) or have room service which was often the only practical option. Similarly, you had to rush back at the end of the tour if you wanted to be served because many of the tours ended at 1.00-1.15 and the restaurant closed at 1.30. Even the buffet closed at 2.00 so you could not have a look round the port after the tour if you wanted to eat. There was always room service but that always takes time to order and receive, and the choice is limited. Generally, the availability of food was the poorest I have come across on any ship. Apart from room service, there were gaps in the morning and afternoon where you struggled to find food. This meant you had to keep an eye on the time to ensure you did not miss a meal - not what you want on a cruise. One morning we got up at 9.00 (hardly sleeping in!!) and found only one place we could eat cold food!! It would be nice when you get back to the ship to find cold drinks and cold towels available - they do this on Celebrity which is a cheaper option. A bit galling to be moored next to a cheaper cruiseline and seeing them being regaled with cold towels!! The public areas looked a bit tired to us and no wow factor. Downsides may sound a bit picky but this cruise is expensive and is meant to be top class so I think you should expect excellence! Overall, a very good experience but I think RSSC should travel on some other lines to see how it could be improved to 5 star all round Read Less
