Went on this cruise to celebrate our anniversary. First time on Regent. Had traveled on sister company, Oceania several times. We found the beds on Oceania more to our liking for firmness, but that is personal preference. Very good choice of restaurants. Because we were willing to share tables, we were able to dine in the specialty restaurants several times each. The main dining room was also attractive and well served. Waiters and wine stewards were well trained and friendly. Would not mind having the same crew on our next trip. The dining rooms did run out of grapefruits, blueberries and some other items, even though this was only a 2 week cruise. Booked another trans-Pacific cruise for the Navigator while on board Explorer to take advantage of some discounts. Cruise consultant needs some more training. Did not know much about the Navigator and did not quote the appropriate price. Our travel agent is fixing. Casino looked kind of dark and on most nights on this trip, not that much action. Spa is expensive and overpriced. Quality would have been good at half the price. Nice library, lots of small activities (sports, trivia, lectures, picture puzzles. Definitely an older crowd than any other line we have sailed. Read Less

We had been on a Regent cruise four years ago that we really enjoyed. We really wanted to check out the newest ship, Explorer, so we booked a Mediterranean cruise starting in Barcelona and ending in Venice. I initially wanted to get a penthouse suite but they were all booked. We ended up with a superior suite, which is one step above their lowest category of deluxe verandah. This is an important distinction and I'll come back to it in a minute. The room was very nice and large, especially the balcony. The bathroom has two sinks, a separate shower and bathtub. There is also a large walk in closet. The ship itself is very nice with several specialty dining venues and nice bars. The pool area has very nice lounge chairs as well as large loungers built for two. The jacuzzis have shade covers over them. My biggest gripes with this cruise line were with dining and entertainment. They have a caste system set up. If you do not have at least a concierge level room or higher, then your chances of getting into any of the specialty dining restaurants is very low. You are allowed to make reservations for each specialty restaurant once online before you board the ship. Good luck getting in again after that. At first, I didn't think it would be that big a deal. That was before I actually ate in the main dining room-Compass Rose. I could not believe how bad this restaurant was. Service is slow and disorganized and the food was extremely subpar. I ordered lobster as they had it on the menu. I received a small sad looking crustacean that looked like a langostino. About the size of a medium shrimp. It also tasted like it was not fresh. Considering we were paying $10,000 a person for this cruise, I was not happy about this; especially since I had been on a Holland America cruise the month before where they served fabulous lobsters in their main dining room during the dress up night. I could not believe that a cruise line that charges 1/10 the price would have better food. Unfortunately, that continued to be the case. They do have an Italian restaurant that you don't need reservations for. It is not as nice as the other specialty restaurants as it is the buffet during the day. You have to show up early or wait hours to be seated. We ate there a couple of times after we realized that the Compass Rose was never getting any better. Regent's glossy brochures claim they have gourmet dining. Well, they do in the steak restaurant and the french restaurant and the asian one. Unfortunately, because of their caste system, your chances of trying it more than once if you are in a superior suite, are not good.If you have sailed with them at least 21 days you start to get priority reservations as well. We got notification of that halfway through the cruise so were able to get into the specialty restaurants two more times. What is completely unacceptable to me is how extremely bad the main dining room is--especially for the amount of money you are paying. The entertainment was also a huge disappointment. On our last Regent cruise, the entertainment was quite good. They had gymnasts who were fabulous and an amazing violinist. This time around, that was not the case. Broadway style music designed for 80 year olds was the only entertainment available. Even in the bars they played a type of elevator music. Only one night in the bar did I see a decent act. A husband and wife team put on a very nice singing show. That was one night out of 10. I would give the entertainment a D .Unless you are 80 years old, you are probably not going to like it. I know we didn't and we are in our late 50's. Again, Holland America has better entertainment as well. Their Blues Club is amazing. The excursions are something that Regent excels at. However, even though they claim they are completely free, that is not actually the case. You need to pay attention when you are signing up for them as some cost money--sometimes quite a lot of money. I did pay attention so booked only free excursions. They were all quite good. One of my favorites was in Kotor, Montenegro. It's a beautiful town, especially viewed from the water. We were able to go to a flute concert held in a church and then get a chance to eat at a local hangout. That was a special excursion that I was on the waiting list for (as I had no priority). Luckily, we were able to get in. It was for Regent's 25th anniversary. Because we were not in a concierge or higher cabin, we did not have transfers or a night before the cruise included. However, we stayed at Hotel The Serras in Barcelona before the cruise. It is located near the marina, and is a small boutique hotel that is quite luxurious and has a rooftop bar. That turned out to be a good choice. We stayed at the Cipriani Hotel in Venice. It was also very nice with a fabulous breakfast area facing the Grand Canal. They have a free water taxi that will take you to St Mark's Square and it runs 24 hours a day. One surprise we had when we reached Venice, was how expensive water taxis were. I thought Regent was quite deceptive in sending out a form saying you could pay an extra $400 for them to include transfers. Don't do it. The water taxi costs $100. You can take a water bus but it is crowded and with suitcases would be difficult. It is much cheaper though--less than $10. I loved the ports we visited and thought the excursions were good. The size of the ship-750 passengers--is also very nice. However, I was so disappointed by the food and service in the main dining room and the entertainment, I think it is very unlikely I would do another Regent cruise. I don't think it is worth the money spent. This was our second time on Regent, but we have cruised many times on other cruise lines including Carnival, Princess, Norwegian and Holland America. We went expecting…or at least hoping…to be overwhelmed. I apologize for the length of this review but a lot needs to be said. I have broken it down in categories. This was our 6th cruise but our first "all-Inclusive". We made the decision to splurge and go all out for our 40th anniversary in November, 2016. We had heard many great things about Regent but, alas, we also heard from seasoned Regent travelers that they would no longer sail on RSS since it was taken over by Norwegian due to the "lack of service" that they were used to. We booked it anyway because other friends were still happy. We went in with our eyes open but we did not expect to be disappointed in the one thing we most looked forward to: Butler service. The ship is beautifully appointed and the cabin was large and perfect (except for a/c control). However, the butler did not meet expectations. The steward greeted us in our cabin a short while after departure with 3 of our 4 bags. He was surprised that we had not yet met our butler. (Not off to a good start.) Later in the evening, they finally found our lost bag and it was delivered by the long-awaited butler. He showed us around "some" the cabin and seemed pleasant enough. He did not explain any of the electronics and although the cabin supposedly included an iPad he never produced one. In hindsight, it might have been helpful for shipboard services (maybe even to contact our butler!!). It also included pressing which he never offered. Over the next 11 days, I do not think we saw him more than once a day on average. Even then it was quick and brusque. He always made us feel as if we were bothering him. I guess if you have a butler, then the steward does not come around so we basically paid for "super service" and got none at all. On the second evening, we ordered canapés (which are included in the “all-inclusive”) in our Penthouse Suite to go with the bottle of champagne that was in the Suite when we came aboard. He added crab legs to our order on his own initiative, but we graciously explained that my husband did not eat fish of any kind. The next night, he brought us shrimp. We are easy-going people – we rarely complain and are not very hard to please but this guy did not even try to learn our preferences and routines. As a secondary issue, his English was poor, he was very soft-spoken and he would not make eye contact – all of which made communication that much more difficult. Let me add that we once went to a "Sandals” resort where we upgraded to their butler service. We were assigned three butlers who were available to us almost around the clock. After the first day, they "knew" what we wanted before WE did. I expected pretty much the same kind of service from Regent - NOT. There were dozens of “little things” that led to my “3 star” rating - with the butler service being the biggest disappointment. Some other notables: The woman at the Destination Services desk did not smile for 11 days and was very rude EVERY time we asked a question. But the rest of the staff was awesome. The excursion team on the docks (especially Luke) went out of their way to accommodate us when there was a weather issue. (Luke knew us by name after the second day.) The wait staff was very friendly and tried to please although there were sometimes language problems. Ashley on the security team called us by name every day after about Day 3 when we came back on board - long before he saw our IDs. The bartender (Inna) at the pool bar not only remembered me but also remembered what I drink. So to these people, I give 5 stars. DINING: Disappointed by some and pleased by others. "Prime 7" did not live up to the hype. My hubby’s NY Steak was not edible and neither was my whole main lobster - on our anniversary night!! We decided to give them another chance and were able to get reservations for second night. This time, hubby had the filet and was quite pleased. "Signatures" steaks were even worse. We dined most evenings at Sette Mari and were never disappointed. The Veal Osso Buco they offered was the best I have ever had. We only had breakfast at Compass Rose one day because I sort of got turned off by finding a hair in my eggs. Ugh! We pretty much did breakfast and lunch at the La Veranda buffet. Hubby says they (which becomes Sette Mari in the evening) had the best Caesar Salad he’d ever had!! Overall the desserts looked beautiful but lacked much taste. EXCURSIONS: Some were just okay but a few were totally awesome. Our first tour was the "Swim and Ride the Dolphins" excursion in Cozumel. This was an unbelievable experience. I was not sure I would do it because I had read that the dolphins were not treated well in some facilities but that was SO not the case where we were. It was a beautiful marine aquarium and it was obvious that the trainers loved their work and that the dolphins loved them. Highly recommended!! Then came Belize – the "Cave Tubing" excursion. Both the cave tubing itself AND our bus tour guide (Peter) were 5-star. It was about a one-hour ride to the river and caves and this young man (speaking wonderful English) told us all about Belize, the city, the schools, the culture, it's history and its current political issues with Guatemala. Once there, we set out on a 40-minute walk along a beautifully-manicured trail through the jungle with another great guide who spoke flawless English. We were all carrying our large inner tubes but this was not an issue. For the one lady who did struggle with it, he carried her tube! Upon arriving at the river, we entered the water and sat in the tube. Only our behinds were wet (and feet from wading in). He tied the 8 of us together and we started "water rafting" down the river - very smooth, clear water with rocky bottom. The caves are not completely dark as there are a lot of openings and there was plenty of room between us and the stalactites. Again, the guide was very informative with lots of history regarding the caves. This excursion may have been the "highlight" of our entire 12 days. One additional comment: We are divers and the dive shops that Regent sourced were excellent. However, there were only two dive days offered on the cruise (one was "inclusive" but the other was not - we paid extra). There should have been more diving options in this world-class diving region. We only wish that we had done our own research (as some other divers did) and arranged dives in a couple of the other ports-of-call like Cozumel and Roatan!. ENTERTAINMENT: Regent had a company that did several song and dance shows that were truly Las Vegas-quality. They did a cirque de sole'-type show that was absolutely stunning. But this company only performed (I think) 4 shows out of the 11 nights. The rest of the entertainment was mediocre at best. Regent's shipboard band, though – which provided music for most of the shows and many lounge acts – was TERRIFIC!! Our biggest entertainment criticism is there was only one show per night with a 9:30 pm start. This was a bit late for many of us who had early dinner at 6:30 or 7:00 and then had an hour or more to kill before the program began. I realize that the Mariner is a smaller ship and it is not practical to have an early show and a later show as many of the larger ships do, but on several occasions we decided to “call it a night” after dinner with wine and did not stay up for the show, especially if we had an early excursion the next morning. A word about the wines: We are wine-lovers and the selection of “house wines” was quite good – and plentiful. The restaurant staff and wine captains (especially Roderick in Sette Mari) were generous and helpful. The “Reserve” wine list was phenomenal and the mark-up on those additional-charge wines was very reasonable. The Spa: Canyon Ranch generally runs a good operation but the Mariner’s people were not up to snuff. I had a massage on our anniversary morning with a masseuse who didn’t shut up for the entire hour – most of her chatter trying to sign me up for the NEXT massage. My husband’s masseuse was OK but nothing special given the $195 cost for an hour. In hindsight, we wish that we’d used the ship credits we spent with them for more wine upgrades! :) To sum up - I give the butler a 1-star, the restaurants a 3-star, most of the excursions a 3-4 star (with exceptions to the two noted above) and a 5-star to most of the crew. Would I do a Regent cruise again? No. Would I do Regent’s butler service again? ABSOLUTELY NOT!! While the overall experience left us with some nice memories, there were sufficient negatives that we will look at other “all-inclusives” for our future cruises. Read Less

We chose this Regent ship and cruise ,because of previous good experiences on the Voyager.. The ship is well appointed with very spacious and underused Public areas .[easy to find a quiet spot ] .The Library is very nice ! The activities are OK . The gym has nice new machines, however instruction in how to use them is lacking . Ports on this cruise were well chosen . [ Athens to Venice ]We particularly enjoyed Koper [Slovenia] and as well Kotor . Of course Venice is nice ,as usually ,however time there is short unless you stay over [ recommended for 1st time visitors]. Some of the shore excursions were a bit too long ,especially when there is rain . Two excursions during heavy rains [ Kryka ,Lake Bled] were downright treacherous . Some of the paths/steps were very slippery and an accident waiting to happen . Something else should have been figured out for those conditions! Disembarkation was a disaster [4 am ] .There were not enough crew available to give directions and we nearly got lost . Air scheduling on return was also a complete disaster [ Iberian Air ] and the plane was scheduled to be retired in 5 days . [not a good thought for Transatlantic flying ] It took 27 hours for us to get home from Venice ,which is very Unacceptable !! Dining is for the most part ,excellent . Prime is very good ,and had excellent service .Compass rose was outstanding for us, because several servers made it special [ Enrique ,Irfan and Rebecca!]. Lunch in Koper [Lake Bled] was very good , Kotor [Highlights of Montenegro ] lunch and restrooms bad. Chartreuse was not very good and perhaps too over the top on the menu . Entertainment was so- so . The onboard crew entertainment was somewhat amateurish and a tad repetitive . Naki Attaman ,the pianist was outstanding and the Violinist was also good . John Barron [cruise director did an entertaining show himself and has a good voice. Overall maybe 3-4 nights out of 9 or so. Service was mostly good . A glaring deficiency was the frequent lack of Wi Fi . We were sold a cabin with ""free Wi Fi "" ,however if it does not work; then money wasted and there should have been a REFUND!. The tech ,person was not overly friendly ,and the hours for assistance with Internet and computers were severely lacking . There should be two [2] The persons on board for I.T. Overall ,this cruise was not up to our expectations .The whole experience seemed a little "off" compared to prior cruises on the Regent Voyager . We would probably not use Regent ,again . Perhaps management needs a little boost ? Read Less

We had heard such wonderful reviews of Regent Seven Seas we had a high anticipation that our cruise of New England and Canada would be exceptional. Unfortunately we were a bit disappointed, but we still had a good vacation. Our embarkation in New York was unfortunately delayed by local officials not opening up the security process at the announced time. This was not Regent's issue, but rather the problem of the local representatives not having the coordination of the embarkation process started when the first guests arrived. We were in line for an hour and we were in the second or third group to be transferred to the ship. That begs the question, how can a ship with only 700 passengers take an hour to process guests onto the ship? The two year old furnishings in the Seven Seas Suite were worn and stained with the sheer curtain torn in two locations. The carbon steel fasteners on furnishings on the expansive balcony were rusting as they were not of the quality that can be put into marine environments. While the public areas of the ship were well maintained, we found the work out facility disappointing as the equipment was not fully connected to media outlets and the equipment was worn in appearance. We did enjoy the meals in La Veranda/Tutta Mari, Signatures and Compass Rose. Unfortunately Prime Seven was not as exceptional as advertised. Service onboard the Mariner was excellent and it seemed that every request was anticipated. The most disappointing aspect of the New England/Canada Cruise were the shore excursions and time in port. We were originally scheduled to dock in all but three ports, but the dock was taken in two additional ports by the Norwegian Dawn of Regent's parent company. This resulted in delays getting ashore through tendering which often took a full hour away from our time in port. When we did get a berth in Quebec, we were berthed at a dry goods loading port, not the cruise ship port in the old city of Quebec (Very Disappointing). While we anticipated a "Six Star Cruise" as advertised by Regent Seven Seas we did not get what we believe was even a five star cruise. Hopefully this is an anomaly for Regent, but our vacation time is rare and when we get away for ten days we want and expect to get the value and luxury we pay for, unfortunately Regent Seven Seas disappointed us in terms of value and we are cancelling the cruise we have scheduled on the Regent Seven Seas Explorer for next year. This is my second time cruising with Regent, obviously I loved the first time around having booked another vacation with them. I unfortunately have not had the same success as i did the first go around. 1.) Butler Service- I paid the extra for it and it has been an absolute waste. 4.5 hours to get 2 bottles of vodka to the room (no ice bucket with it even though I requested it) 2.) Excursion Time change and I was not notified. I missed the Faberge Museum 2a.) The Manager for Destination services was abrupt, dismissive and rude. I went up with the ticket that clearly stated 1:20 and he said "bus is gone, nothing I can do." I said, "but the ticket says 1:20.". His response, "we sent out document." My response - "I didn't receive it." He fought with me on this and got even ruder. His colleague let him know that we were a later addition to this excursion and did not receive the communication where he then was rude to her, saying the same thing about the communication going out. The gentleman is a manager, which was shocking as he was inappropriate and unprofessional in every aspect of his dealing with the situation. 2b.) At the time of the issue there was no other manager available. And one of the destination services employees said their manager could have just called her and she could have gotten us on the later bus 3.) I spoke with multiple employees with minimal progress and only received a 200 dollar shipboard credit for the inconvenience. The cruse costs around 10k per person (1k per day per person). How 100 dollars per person is fair, is beyond me. 4.) General manager let me know that because we didn't pay for the excursion he can't give me money back... For those who do not know, excursions are included and there are a select few that are "special" that someone may pay for if they want to join. But I find it disrespectful to tell me that I am not paying for this excursions when it costs me 10,000 per person to get on this boat. Just because something is pre-paid in a bulk type package does not make it acceptable to claim that it is free. I had some other issues, including one other awful tour, but also had some great experiences. Regent has a lot of positives to it, but unfortunately I learned a lesson that may prevent me from continuing my time as a Regent Customer. I would have liked a more prompt response, a more respectful attitude and at this point I believe a 1000 dollar refund and 20% off my next cruise would be reasonable, but even after my travel agent contacted the corporate office, the response was "there is nothing they can do". Food is good on the boat, housekeeping is phenomenal, Most of the wait staff is great, sit down meals can be slow, excursions overall were great. Shows performed by the Regent contracted dancers are awesome, but this is going to be ending as Norwegian wants to use an in house team. This is probably going to be a downgrade, but this statement is an assumption based on how good the current team is. Read Less

Regent Seven Seas markets its cruises as first class. In some ways it almost is but other parts are so bad that it ruined the good parts. This cruise line goes the cheapest route when it comes to airline travel and hotels. Regent is EXPENSIVE and only if you drink and eat an extraordinary amount will you get your money's worth. Bad -- Emergency situations: Disastrous. Their emergency number took over an hour to answer, then put us on hold, when our air transportation got changed by them and we were marooned. Air Travel -- we were supposed to have Business Class and instead they booked us on a third rate local airline and it resulted in us missing a connection and a whole day's vacation plus paying $500+ for hotel and taxi to a different airport which Regent refused to pay. We later learned from experienced Regent travelers to check what flights you want and then insist they book you on them. Internet -- we had no internet for most of the cruise, despite being told we would and printed marketing material indicating full time internet. If you have to do business while traveling, do not take this cruise line. One fellow passenger missed an important stock trade and was hysterical because there was no internet. Despite promises to fix it, it never was fully functional. Embarkation/Debarkation: Disorganized, confusing and way too time consuming. Ditto for baggage handing. Hotels: They book you into average hotels with basic rooms, definitely not first class. Our hotel room in Reykjavik was so small we couldn't even turn around, also hot and stuffy. In Copenhagen we inquired about upgrading our room and were told that Regent only books "Basic" rooms, not first class. Good: Fabulously well trained staff especially our private Butler. The best part of the trip. All other staff on board were very polite and helpful. However, lowly staff can only do so much when management is lacking. Entertainment was excellent but for first time Regent cruisers it should have been better explained as to how to be seated, etc. Most food better than average except the premier Prime 7 where we had two bad meals. The French restaurant, Signatures, was very good. The basic restaurants Compass Rose and the Veranda were good and wine selections were also good. Overall, all service on board was excellent, including our Butler, cleaning staff, servers, bartenders, etc. Word of advice, this cruise is not for families as it is appeared to be older than average crowd. Some patrons were much too elderly/infirm to do the excursions and yet were allowed to participate, resulting in inconveniencing everyone else. If you are looking for a totally first class experience, we would suggest a different cruise line. Read Less

My wife and I take a holiday every August to celebrate our anniversary and decompress from an otherwise stressful existence. We are fairly well traveled and prefer to stay in high end hotels frequently using Relais and Chateaux as well as Leading hotels... We have sailed on Silversea as well as Cunard in the past although we are not avid cruisers and generally prefer to string several unique hotels together and "wander" at our own pace. We set up our own excursions with private guides or rental cars at the port. (were really not the 40 passenger bus type). On one port we booked a "choice" excursion but more on that later. This ship seems to have been reviewed many times so i'll skip the in depth physical description and give my overall impression. We booked this cruise on the suggestion of our travel agent who described Regent as on par with Silversea which I would disagree with on almost every point. While I don't think there is a truly 5 star 5 diamond Michelin 3 star experience at sea short of a private yacht charter. In hotel terms I was hoping for a ritz carlton rather than a Relais what I got was an airport Marriott. Very clean and efficient; everything that was needed was provided but it was in no way a high end experience. We were in Europe and took this cruise as part of a larger holiday so we had been in Denmark at the Falsled Kro property south of Odense (I would highly recommend) we drove into the city Sunday morning and boarded the ship at 12:30pm and were herded into the ships theatre where we sat for 20min waiting on the check in clerks to discover how to use the computer system (presumably they do this every week right??) One interesting side note was that the cruise director (a former child star of some sort) was participating in a reality TV show so for the first few hours there was a film crew onboard... not welcome or particularly high end in any capacity.... After getting our suite key we were told that the housekeepers had not managed to clean the room quite yet and we could sit in the theatre or there was a buffet at the pool. Not being much on buffet dining but wanting to see the ship we chose to wander about and were "caught" on the 7th floor and asked to go to the pool deck or theatre... a bit like boarding school but alas we went up to the pool where we did get a first hand look at the film crew circulating about.... Once we were allowed to go to our room around 330 we found it to be a little dated but clean and efficient... we were in a "penthouse suite" although it was not a large size somewhere in the neighborhood of 350sq feet all in. The room had a nice closet and a workable bathroom. Our butler came and introduced himself and was very helpful and many times during our stay. In my opinion I would skip the cost and hassle of getting a table in one of the special restaurants... as far a haute french cuisine goes the signature restaurant falls short... we found dishes to be tasty but service was very slow both nights we tried it... the one night we ate in the compass rose room (the standard dinning room) we found service to be prompt and there was the ability to order dishes from the other places and have them served in the compass rose... We did not attend any of the performances offered in the theatre so we cant really comment on the quality or variety although they did seem to offer something every evening. We did stop in the cigar bar although I would recommend bringing your own supply if you are a true cigar enthusiast as the selection provided is quite pricy and not stored in optimal conditions... the bar tender in the lounge was very friendly although he was stretched between working the cigar bar and the other lounge bar across the hall making for very slow service... On every stop but one we booked our own private tours choosing not to use the "included" tours offered through the company... most of the included tours consisted of mainly tour bus type trips with very little in depth exploration.... there were several small group tours offered but most were a 150-300.00pp extra cost... cheaper than a private excursion but not exactly all inclusive... We had one problem on the ship which revolved around the restaurant mixing up a dish and serving my wife soup with a shell fish base (she is allergic and the wait staff were informed of the allergy) needless to say she got very and we missed a day at port as a result... no apologies from anyone or even a recognition that she was ill or a request to see if they could help.... All in all I would say that this is a 3.5 to 4 star vacation experience at best... yes there is ample food and booze included if you prefer rail drinks and blandish meat and potato american steak house sort of food. Once you venture into specialty restaurants and decent wine your spending extra money at the same rate you would on any other ship so what is the relative value of the extra few thousand in fair? Dito for the tours they are mostly mass produced bus trip sort of affairs and if you start to book unique experiences then your going to pay for it the same way you would on any other boat...
