Overall ok and like most cruises still very relaxing, but very disappointed with Princess over other lines like Celebrity. Small, very small staterooms with low ceilings and very, very poor food choices and quality. Went to steakhouse, and the steak could not be eaten as it was so tough and fatty. Main dining room also was mostly poor, with the hamburger probably the best option for lunch at least. Some nights you could not eat what they served. Maybe because they were using up all the old food on the transitional cruise. However did have nice music in the lounges, which we enjoyed most evenings. The boat is newer and adequate overall and had nice swimming pools. Movies under the Stars was ok, but most of the movies were very old and not what you wanted to see. I would not given a choice go on Princess again, except if it was a much better value than other lines. Read Less

This was my 1st cruise in over 30 years, and the 1st with my husband. We decided on this cruise because of the length (10 days) the location (Brooklyn) and the ports (Aruba, St. Maarten, and Antigua) We live in NJ and used Princes's shuttle service from EWR airport. We were told to meet in a certain palce at a certain time. We arrived a little early and sat and waited. Someone arrived on time to gather us and bring us to another location. It was at that location where we found out we culd have gotten on an earlier shuttle if we had been told the correct meeting place. She told us she has told Princess a number of times, but they continue to tell people the wrong location . The shuttle from EWR to Brooklyn was great, we arrived abut 1 and there were no lines. We were on board by 1:30. We were they only ship so I'm sure that helped. At 3 pm we went to our cabin A503. It was clean, cool, and very nice. We unpacked, they provided many hangers, a safe, and plenty of drawer space. I had ordered a Bon Voyage package and expected it to be in our room at least by 5:00 when we sailed. It never showed up and had to go to front desk to ask about it. After a few phone calls the front desk told us that they didnt deliver it because they had run out of strawberries. That was a vey interesting excuse especially since the package did not include strawberries. They finally arrived about an hour after we sailed. I think this kind of defeated the purpose but ok. We chose 8:15 dinner time prior to sailing. We were assigned to the Allegro dining room and a table of 6. Two people walked over and said they hadrequested a table for 2 and never returned, the other couple was a lovely older couple who became like family to us over the 10 days. This is why we like sharing a table. Dinner had a pretty good selection of choices each night and the food ranged from just ok to great, for the most part falling in the good range. The mushroom tart was one of our favorites. We had dinner in both specialty dining rooms Sabatini's and the Grill. We had great meals at both and the service especially in the Grill was wonderful. The beet risotto was the best thing I ate all week. The lamb at the grill was the 2nd best hing had. My one issue with all the meals were the potatoes. They were always cold, and a lot of time way undercooked. We brought 6 bottles of wine with us. We paid the $15 corkage fee on 4 of the bottles. It was worth it to have good wine without paying a fortune. We did buy the juice and soda package, which I really didn't use too often, and probably wouldnt do it again. On the 2nd day I ordered room decorations and champagne for our Anniversary. It was another Princess package I pre paid for. Guess what? No show again, another trip back to the front desk. I wasn't so happy this time. Do you want to take a guess on why they didn't deliver it? Those damn strawberries again. This time I asked to speak to a supervisor. She was very nice and listen to my complaints. She sent us a bottle of wine to make up for it. I will never again purchase a Princess package. The entertainment was pretty good, the shows every night were decent. We really enjoyed the movies under the stars. The blankets, popcorn and special chair cushions were great. As usual there were plenty of chair hogs, you know the people who put towels down and leave for 4 hours! This is a big pet peeve. They grab the best spots at 7 am and dont come to the pool until 3. This is so rude and I wish there was a solution. The Regal is a beautiful ship, the elegant design, ease of getting around and beauty make it a gem. Every single person who works on ship is helpful, polite, and always welcome you with a smile. Princess definitely is a leader in this area. We did an excursion in each port. In Aruba we did the butterfly farm, rock formation and aloe factory. I could have spent much more time at the farm and rocks and totally skipped the aloe factory. They need to drop that part of the tour. It is just a sales stop. The bus driver was great and gave us a lot of information. This wasmy favorite of all our toursand would definitely suggest it. When the tour was over we were dropped off at the ship and decided to grab a cab to a beach. We decided on reflextions beach. The cab driver tried to insist that we go to Eagle beach trying to tell us that Reflextions had no chairs, the water was shallow and the beach not that nice. After I told him he was wrong that I had been there before he took us where we requested but was not happy about. He was only 1 of the very few rude people we encountered in 10 days. Swimming with the stingrays in St. Marteen was a great excurtion and oh what fun. We have done this before on another island and just loved it, we highly recommend it. Catamaran snorkling in Antigua was nice. Our favorite evening activity was in the Princess Live, the games, and trivia were so much fun. My only wish was if they would do a game for early seating and then again for late. With out late seating we missed a lot of the fun. Everyone work very hard and Princess seems to treat their employess well which for us is important. Disembarkation was easy and stress free. The organization and smoothness of it all amazes me. We had no issues and were on the bus within half hour. We had an amazing experinece and look forward to our next cruise which will be to Alaska. My husband is hooked! Read Less

BACKGROUND: DW and I booked the 10 day Regal repo from NYC to FLL to grab a bit more warmth and sun before a New York State lake effect winter. We flew into LGA and took the Princess shuttle to the pier. Here are some of the positives and negatives from the cruise. POSITIVES: Cabin: R729 (DD category) – actual room area is a bit roomier than regular balcony cabin and not far from elevators and stairs. Fairly smooth sailing except for the first 1 ½ sea days. Like the sailing, the weather also improved on day 3. Cabin steward: Michael who was quick and unobtrusive like a Ninja. Fairly easy to navigate the ship. A lot of movies and shows on in-cabin TV. Internet speed was good and we had unlimited access. Entertainment: So much to do that we often pooped out early and didn’t get to do any of the late-night activities. Food: Ate practically all meals at the buffet with occasional snacks (pizza, burgers, etc.). We did the Crab Shack and were overwhelmed by the amount and quality of food. We found the overall food quality to be quite good and were able to sample some food we normally would never order. Shore excursions: St Maarten, Antigua + Aruba (more info under shore exc. reviews) PA announcements: Few announcements except for the captain’s noon status report. Value: Had several price reductions before the cruise allowing us to “spend” more on our shipboard account without killing our budget. Debarkation: We went to the Platinum waiting area and were off the ship close to the scheduled time AND had no customs forms to fill out. We had booked with All Stars to take us to the airport. NEGATIVES: Embarkation: Our flight landed at LGA at 7:30 AM and had to wait for 3+ hours for the bus to the pier. There were no places to sit except on the floor and/or a luggage cart. Cabin balcony: The balcony itself is definitely smaller than those on most other Princess ships. You can’t comfortably sit and face the water. But at least you can sit there and relax/read/watch the waves. Read Less

We chose this cruise (as our unplanned fourth cruise of the year) because of the attractive price, the fact it departed from New York,. We have cruises on the Royal many times but never the Regal so that also was a reason. Did not expect the cruise out of New York to be quite so rough, it was like the first two days out of LA. Everything was about par for the course, EXCEPT the Captain and the way he kept us informed all along the way.. We have cruised exclusively on Princess for the last fifteen years and this is the first Captain that did more than just give the noon status. On the final night of the cruise when he came on at dinner timme during the Parade of Baked Alaska (which now has a fancy name) he spoke so long it became funny, very enjoyable but funny... Read Less

Once again on a Royal Class ship with princess, we were not disappointed. We had a Club Class Mini Suite on Mariner deck 15. The room was clean, and comfortable. The bed swallowed us up when we went to sleep, and we slept great. Our cabin steward was very good, although we came and went at different times, throwing him off a few times, but he was extremely friendly and accomodating. We ate at the Club Class dining room each evening. All the wait staff addressed us with professionalism and remembered our names after only a few meals. The food choices were ample, and we sometimes ordered an extra plate as an appetizer in the middle to share and sample a little more than we could actually consume. I enjoyed the Casino, playing cards. The dealers were friendly. Thankfully the casino gave me a few dollars to take home with me this time. If you'r shopping for Jewellery, and going to St. Maarten, then visit Joe's Jewellery and ask for Cash to serve you. He'll strike a great price. Once off the water taxi from the pier to town, just walk up to the main street and the store is to your left. In Aruba, we took a taxi up to Palm Beach from the Pier, $14 to $16.00 each way depending where you need to be dropped, and a $2.00 tip. ($1-3 tips are standard for Aruba cabs) At the beach, you can rent a locker if you need one, and beach chairs or just lay on the sand. Lots of places to eat and drink. One of the safest islands I've ever visited. The beach is much wider between the Marriott and Ritz, but the lockers are at the south end of the Marriott on the beach. Read Less

This was a re-positioning cruise originating from Brooklyn NY with stops in Antigua, Aruba and St. Maarten ending in Port Everglades Florida. It was a 10 day cruise at a very reasonable price. The ship was on the smallish size compared to the monsters. This for us was a benefit. There were no zip lines, water slides etc., again a benefit. The pools were actually accessible, making the days at sea enjoyable. I can't say enough good things about the bars and the prompt and excellent service. In every bar there was some sort of entertainment all the time. The Buffet food was excellent and the selections varied daily. We chose "Any Time" dining which worked perfectly for our group. Captain "Tim" was very personable and kept us informed on a regular basis. The rest of the staff was exceptionally friendly and courteous. Boarding in Brooklyn was the easiest and most efficient of any cruise we have taken. We all dreaded disembarking as that usually is a nightmare. Not so. ALL luggage was off ship and in port AHEAD of schedule. The luggage was arranged by color and number making it a breeze to locate. We had a "Mini Suite" and the only complaint would be that the balcony was probably the smallest of any cruise we have been on. It fit two but not more. Read Less

We had gone on Princess in Jan, 2018 on the Panama Canal cruise and it was wonderful. We had a great mini-suite and the entertainment was great. Afternoon happy hour and music. This cruise which was classified an a club class upgrade was the most disappointing cruise we have been on. We did not receive the upgrades per the website. The robe were old, thread bare and one size fits all a small. There was no way my husband and I could put them on. We asked our room steward and the front desk for new robes. Nothing. We were to have a dining table for 6-8 and we got a table for 2. When we tried to exchange they wanted us to go to anytime dining, which we rejected. The afternoon entertainment consisted of "senior citizen" board games. Music didn't start until dinner time and evening entertainment was lumped into about a 3 hour period. WRONG. Another factor there were over 100 new employees aboard and many untrained. Our dinner helper was a nightmare and our poor waiter had to pick up her slack. Not a good experience. The shore excursions were way overpriced for what we got. The cutbacks from January, 2018 to this cruise were alarming. I wonder if we want to do another cruise. Read Less

I start this review as a seasoned cruiser. 9 to be exact.Carnival and Royal Caribbean. First cruise on Princess. Never again. The ship is beautiful. Well maintained and clean. The crew (for the most part) was kind, helpful and caring. But thats it. We only had 2 hot meals and that was in the specialty restaurants. The buffet food was always, with out exception cool at best. Same with the dining rooms. The coffee was excellent tasting , but I could count on one hand how many HOT cups I had. it was barely warm enough to drink. The food quality was great! and a lot of choices. But it was always cold. The toast felt like it was made hours before hand and the butter was always frozen. You had to wait for it to thaw to use it. Even the hot soups were lukewarm. You never had to worry about getting burned. Lobster night was great. Until you got the food. Cold lobster is not my favorite. I paid extra for an upgrade to a "Mini-Suite" . Compared to Carnival and Royal, the regular balcony rooms were bigger than my "Mini-Suite" They put a full size table on the small balcony. We had to move it to even look over the railing. With the 2 chairs, foot stool and full size table you couldnt move on the balcony. I got a Mini-suite on Carnival once so I know what to expect from a suite. This a NOT a suite. Oh, and the toilet smelled like a port-a-pottie. Although very clean, it was a terrible smell every time you lift the seat. And it wasnt just the room. It was the public bathrooms also. It had to be the water. The theater was very small. Just over 600 seats. There are 3000 people on board. We got there at 7pm for an 8pm show and almost didnt get seats. One single floor for the theater. And if you didnt carry around the itinerary they gave you in your room, you would have no way of knowing what was going on around the ship. No announcements, no signs posted, No additional itineraries anywhere around the ship. We missed so much because we were never informed of what was going on. And everything is not even listed in the itinerary. We tendered 2 ports. What a nightmare. They used lifeboats. I've tendered many many ports and they always had dedicated tenders. I guess I will need to check on this next time before booking a cruise with tender ports. In closing, If I was never on a cruise before, I probably would not know the difference. But if you have ever cruised Carnival or Royal Caribbean before, DO NOT take Princess. They don't measure up. Read Less

The crew needs a vacation. Really surprised at how many crew would not make eye contact or smile. Had to track down waitstaff to get a Coke every time. Ship is nice but unhappy or tired crew is palpable and left us feeling less satisfied than previous cruises. Food was so-so. Internet connection better than previous Princess Cruises, and was actually usable and functional. Room was clean and attended to promptly. Captain was good at communicating about sea conditions, since we were coming out off NYC, where there was a storm. Please be aware that transfers from airport to ship are poorly organized. Princess will tell you one thing but the people who actually pick you up don’t talk with the Princess phone staff and vice versa. We were almost left behind despite waiting exactly where we were told to wait. It was a comedy of errors and very upsetting. Read Less

To call something great, it really has to stand about among other similar experiences, and while this cruise was not bad, there were many missed opportunities to make it much better, starting with the completely lousy greeting that we had upon embarkation. (one could more accurately say, the greeting that we didn't have). Arrival clarification: Security fine, directional crew member very, very friendly.....then we met the guy on the elevator. We'll call him 'M" (we know that name but do not wish to embarrass). "M" was wearing the requisite "welcome" sash across his chest, but his demeanor was an immediate and complete downer. M had no smile, no greeting....no words other than "what floor"? Not even please. We only got the question after we greeted him. ABSOLUTELY NO PLACE for that sort of guest treatment in a hospitality job. Several other crew members were the same and it definitely detracted from the many others who were noteworthy. Food was not great, despite some earlier reviews and our own expectations. The food was average. They DO NOT KNOW HOW TO COOK A STEAK. Paid extra to eat in steak restaurant, and a waste of money and time. Had a steak on our designated restaurant, same story. Read Less

My husband and I were looking for somewhere new to cruise to and this cruise fir the bill. We had never been on a Canada cruise and the price was really good. Embarkation was quick and easy and our room was ready when we boarded. We only had small bags so it was great to be able to drop them and go. We went right to the buffet of course and it was very good. We got on pretty early so it was not too crowded yet. There was a lot to choose from but the layout was not very convenient. There is 2 parts to the buffet so it takes some time to go through and see what they have. All in all pretty good. The room was very nice with full size TV's. That was really nice. The reception was great during the whole cruise. There were lots of movies to choose from for free along with TV shows and music programs. You have to keep your room key in a slot by the door to keep the lights on but that is no big deal. We found the bed petty uncomfortable. Our room stewardess was great. She was very friendly and chatty. Very very helpful. Her name is Rowena and we will look for her on future cruise's. The ship is beautiful and modern. Very clean. We found there was not a lot that we liked to do so we spent a lot of time in our room relaxing. This seemed to be a very sedate cruise. We went to one show that was really good and one comedy show(that was all they had)that was just so so. We got off the ship at both ports and did a city tour at St. Johns. The ports were nice but this is the end of season so there was not too much going on. The weather was pretty cold so we could not spend much time on deck. I felt sorry for the crew members that had to work on deck. The casino was awful. It is pretty small and no one was winning. To play you have to use your room key and set up an account. The do not pay out tickets and will time out in about 5 minutes if you are not hitting buttons. I know this is for security but it is annoying if your playing a bonus game and the your session times out. Your winnings go into your bank and you have to either put more money in or take it our of your bank. So we enjoyed the cruise very much and were very relaxed. Halloween was great with the crew and lots of guests dressed up. We would go again but in warmer weather. Read Less

The Regal Princess in a beautiful relatively new ship. I chose this 5 day cruise because my friend had never cruised before and I wanted to show her how wonderful cruising is as I've been on over 20 cruises on many different lines.. Also leaving out of Brooklyn seemed easy since we could drive from New Jersey and park at the port. Getting back out of that port to the Verazzano Bridge on a weekday, not so easy. My friend is a chef and was critical of the dinner food in the dining room and she was right, it's not the best but for serving hundreds of people all at once it was okay,,Breakfast and lunch in the dining room were just fine. Alfredo's cafe has great pizza and nice light menu for no extra charge. We had fish and chips pub lunch one day at the Wheelhouse Bar with bread pudding dessert, all delicious. We opted for the specialty dining at Sabatini's and the Crown Grill and were not disappointed. You could never get a wonderful five course dinner for $ 25 and $ 29 at any restaurant I know. The food and service was top notch excellent! The shows were all very good but we did not care for the comedian even though he tried hard to be funny. He started out by telling the audience that he had Cerebral Palsy which was a bit of a downer and made it hard to see the comedy in his show. Halloween was great fun with crew dressing up in costumes. My friend had booked a massage at the Lotus Spa which she said was excellent. We had booked a Foodie Walking Tour in St. John and that was fun and informative and although a cloudy day, at least it didn't rain. Read Less

We wanted to see the fall colors in New England and Princess had the right time frame for us. The ship was very nice and the food was good, some meals better than others. The entertainment was good. The cabin was real nice and bigger than I expected. We took Six shore excursions and I didn't think they were really worth the money we paid for them. Services were great, room service was fast and the cabin was always cleaned and when ever we got back to the cabin we always had a full ice bucket. Embarkation and disembarkation went very smooth. Overall we had a good time on the cruise and enjoyed all the entertainment we went to see. We ate one night in the Crown Grill and one time at Sabatinis. They try to wow you with assortment. The quality and freshness is so lacking I thought it would be a funny reality show. Having chefs walk around. The dining rooms are an improvement but do not live up to the Princess reputation. We did miss a port. The Captain was very apologetic and sincere. I did believe he had our safety at heart. I would give him a five for at least helping me survive the worst cruise experience of my life I have sailed with Carnival and disliked it. We chose this cruise because we were looking for a short get-away and had taken this route a few years ago. However this time it rained and was cold in all the ports. We missed Saint John due to a tug dealing with a tanker and it was freezing cold in Halifax. Bar Harbor is always a favourite port for us and it was enjoyable being there. Boston has a lot to offer but again due to weather we didn't venture too far except to the market area. We did find the Regal Princess to be too large for our liking and are used to smaller ships. The cruise director on this ship did not have the spark that we are used to seeing to keep everything moving. Maybe that is why the Captain was on the intercom most of the time. The shows we attended were very good, The comedian had an entertaining performance. I especially enjoyed how he made fun of passengers crowding onto the elevators. This is a constant complaint on a large cruise ship. The service was top notch and the food was excellent. Next time it will be in warmer weather and a smaller ship. We were fortunate to have a direct flight to New York from Vancouver and our stay at the Wagner Hotel was excellent. We were upgraded to a room with a view of the Statue of Liberty. The staff treated us very well. Be sure when you get a cab to the Port that the cabbie knows where to go. Our cab driver was not familiar and drove us through some back streets to get to the Regal. As my wife required a wheel chair to embark and disembark the ship we were most appreciative on the service we received. During a driving rain, Alberto wheeled my wife directly to our shuttle bus to get to Newark Airport. Unfortunately we arrived at the Airport at 10:30 and had to sit in the departure lounge until 6:45 PM to get our flight. Our connection could have been better. Read Less

The room we were “upgraded” to was above a bar and shook and rattled all night keeping us up. I am a light sleeper and when I booked the cruise I asked for a quiet room. My husband is a heavy sleeper and couldn’t sleep in this cabin. So disappointed. The ports were excellent and it’s why we choose Canada and New England. The captain was unable to port in New Brunswick through no fault of his own. It was high winds. Food is not as great as it used to be. There are little choices and it seemed to be the same food in the anytime dining buffet every breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The only change was the last day at sea where they had a better variety of food like strawberries, seafood, pies, chocolate, and sugar free desert options. I couldn’t even get a bottle of orange juice for my room as I am diabetic and need sugar in the middle of the night. I asked in the shop and they looked at me like I was crazy for wanting to buy a bottle of OJ. Staff were less friendly as well. Our steward in past cruises always went above an beyond with towel animals, etc but not this time. Barely got a smile. Read Less

Born in Calif I've never seen the Eastern seaboard to its fullest and thought this would be a great way to see the fall colors. We were about a week too late weather wise (our problem) but really when you can't use the outdoor areas (pool or walking areas) where you to put 3500 plus passengers? TOO MANY PEOPLE! Ironically, it wasn't a problem when we had to tender (not sure why) nor a problem in leaving or returning to the ship. But God forbid you had their Any Time Dining and wanted to eat around 6:30pm. They give you a buzzer like they do in restaurants. We actually got that eventually dialed in (You can actually make reservations, but you can't get through to the reservation desk - only to find out when you finally do get through they don't take reservations between 5:30pm and 7:30pm it is first come first serve. So we figured that out, but I fully believe this type of dining leaves you with waitstaff that are not engaged with you or invested in your experience...Not the best but most nights not awful. Just need to find another way for us. Plus with that many people, there are not enough public rooms to put people. Too many staterooms, not enough public gathering space. Read Less

We recently sailed to Canada & New England on the Regal Princess and had a great time. It was a bit too cold out to do much on the top deck, so we mostly stayed inside.Unfortunately the weather in Bar Harbor was bad and we had to skip it, we had a day at sea instead and the crew put together lots of fun activities on very short notice to keep everyone occupied. This was our 2nd cruise ever and even though we loved it, there were a few things we didn't like as much as our previous cruise with Celebrity. We booked a Club Class Mini Suite, which was very nice, but the Mini Suite we had on the Celebrity Solstice for roughly the same price was roomier and and overall a lot more comfortable. We thought the buffet food wasn't very good compared to the main dining room(s) which was excellent. They had a small section of the dining room for Club Class members, which was nice, but we preferred Celebrity's approach where they had a whole separate special restaurant for Suite guests. We also tried the Crowne Grill specialty steakhouse and it was probably one of the best steaks I ever had. The international cafe and alfredo's pizza were both great, but we thought the Gelato wasn't nearly as good as on Celebrity... it was just pain generic ice cream and shouldn't have cost extra. We didn't do many shore excursions, we mostly just wandered around on our own to check out the sights. All of the places we stopped were very nice and the crew made it easy to get on and off the ship. We took this cruise mostly because it was leaving from NY and it was close enough to drive, we didn't want to have to fly. Though the ship was very nice and we had a great time, I think in the future we will probably back to Celebrity for our next one Read Less

We started on our 25th anniversary and choose this trip every year because we love the fall foliage with the beautiful changing colours, crisp breezes, cleansing rains and wonderful rocking of the ship upon the autumn waters. We’ve taken 5 or 7 days round trip cruises from New York and always disembark wanting more. We expect the unexpected and this trip was no exception as we had gale force winds which prevented us from going into port at St. John. The captain and the Princess Cruise staff rose to the occasion for this extra day at sea. We were safe, dry and continuing on to our next port. The ship is always clean, tidy, spacious and filled with warm, friendly staff and fellow travellers. There is a real family atmosphere onboard that develops and increases as the cruise goes on. The amenities are second to none whether it be the staterooms, dining venues or public spaces for relaxing or entertainment. We leave the cruise counting down the days until our next fall cruise with Princess! Read Less

Our second time on the Regal and it was as wonderful as the first. Brooklyn Terminal is not the easiest to navigate but once you get there, it is uphill all the way. Easy check-in and fast embarkation start you off right. The ship is beautiful, cabins have ample room and storage, dining rooms are very nice and many to choose from, dining staff was efficient and accommodating with great menu choices and wonderful presentation, the Crown Grill was elegant with fabulous food and gracious dining, cruise director was incredible along with a friendly and efficient staff. The activities in Princess Live were amusing and had a great variety. We did not use any Shore Excursions but there were many to choose from and the ports were perfect. We would definitely choose Regal Princess again along with the many other Princess ships. A fantastic value for the price. We are Platinum Members and look forward to becoming Elite. Read Less

It was rated the Best New England Cruise Land combination. Or so the advertisement said. Best for them because they have cut quality of food, shows, room size, Just over all, poorly run. We will never cruise with princess again!! Best thing the Cruise Director Matt O'. Matt did his best to keep up morale, tall order for someone trying to save a sinking ship. Food was not up to par and timing was very poor. Missed 3 out of 10 dinners due to "Any Time Dining". What they don't tell you is that it is "Any Time They Want You To Dine". Also, schedule your dinning rooms, so that one can eat early, due to GERD issues, and still find a seat in the Auditorium. We missed 2 shows due to "Standing Room Only" at the first Show. Service as good as could be expected, as they had 140 new crew members, who were using passengers to learn the ropes. NOT the Crews fault - - MANAGEMENT is using the cheapest labor to get the most money. We were informed that they were training for the "HOLIDAY SEASON". Princess needs to help their staff by providing the best training. We booked our flight through Princess. When it was too late to book our own, they moved us to a "RED EYE" to their $$$ advantage. Also, took 2 days to catch up on sleep.Due to a freeway accident, we stood with our luggage from 7:45 A.M. till 1:30 P.M. because they had no back up plan. For all the trouble, we were offered nothing. Read Less

We have cruised many times on Princess and, prior to this cruise, have enjoyed excellent meals and service in all areas of the ship. We have been on the Royal Princess on prior cruises and been pleased with the ship. On this cruise, however, something changed. The food quality was below average and was always served lukewarm. We saw many passengers send the food back to have it warmed up. The bars even ran out several types of glassware and were serving drinks in tall narrow glasses that were not easy to drink out of. They said they said they were short on glassware. Several times the serving staff in the dining rooms and bars seemed to be put out to have to wait on passengers. We heard similar comments on the food and staff from several other long term Princess cruisers. The general feeling was that the cruise line is having trouble with profits and has cut back. Our cab driver, on the way to the hotel after the cruise, told us he had heard similar complaints from passengers he had earlier that morning. Read Less

This made the third cruise we have had on the Royal. She is a beautiful vessel, but has flaws that won't go away. The most annoying issue is the size of the theatre - way too small on busy nights. Some nights we arrived 45 minutes prior to the show and had terrible seats. Most of the other entertainment venues are overflowing, also. Our cruise ran into usually cold weather, so the outdoor facilities were worthless. You can't watch a movie under the stars in 40 degree weather, no matter how many blankets they give you. This may have contributed to the overflow traffic in the public areas. As for the rooms, we all agree they are small, but comfortable. Our neighbors were quiet and we enjoyed good rest each night. The room steward was good, although we saw him only occasionally, but that's okay. The embarkation NY is a nightmare. The lines are slow and the security is a joke. Seeing them hassling senior citizens over metal implants is repulsive and it slows everyone down to a crawl. Disembarking went much smoother and we made it to the airport in plenty of time to meet our 11:00 am flight. We thought the food in the MDR was much better than our last trip and the buffet was a little better also. The steaks in the MDR were very good quality and cooked as ordered. The MDR needs to work on their service delivery. We dinned in the MDR 8 of the 10 nights and enjoyed most of them. Our waiter had 4 large tables that were full most nights, so some dinners took 2 hours. Other areas of the MDR were almost vacant, but they never seemed to lend a hand for the busy areas. Read Less

We had an amazing experience on the Royal Princess. We had unparalleled service from the food service staff, our room attendant, guest services....everyone bent over backwards to ensure we were well cared for. Our room was beyond clean and the bed was so comfortable! The 4 production shows were out of this world Broadway caliber shows. The cruise director and his team interacted with the passengers and mad it a fun time while on board. The piazza entertainment-especially the dance band was incredible!! My only criticisms were not having enough time in some of the ports (some days the ships sailed at 3/30 in the afternoon). And the ships internet service was very expensive. But then you should be leaving your internet behind when you go on a cruise. We celebrated our 40th Anniversary on this cruise. Princess did an amazing job of recognizing our special event with balloons and a door sign and a special dessert for supper. My only advice is never book a room in the front of the ship....you feel every wave and motion of the ship. Read Less
