We have tried Carnival & Royal Carribean and while both of those were company paid for free trips for me they were the oldest boats in the fleet and we hated it! When we decided to try again it was with NCL's brand new ship, Getaway a few years ago during the same Thanksgiving week. It was wonderful and our now 13-year-old son hasn't stopped begging for another cruise. The Escape was sold out and while the pool during peak time was packed there were always spots with a water view on deck 8 where you could cuddle up and feel alone. There is a private pool club called, VIBE that costs $100.00 per person extra but no kids and special perks included. When we first boarded the ship we went to the comedy club to reserve restaurants & shows and the line to buy into VIBE was huge due to limited space. I loved the gym and the $95.00 (after gratuities) unlimited class pass was great, especially the spin classes called, RYDE. Jarred was the instructor and he made every ride fun and hard! The teen club, Entourage was so amazing the only time we saw our kid was when he was sleeping and for excursions! I had watched some youtube videos and I'm glad I brought fold up cubes to store clothing at the top of the closet as well as a shoe rack that hung from the closet rod, kept all of our shoes organized and out of the way. We brought an assortment of water bottles, the ship has reverse osmosis water everywhere, it was delicious and free! I also brought lanyards with a lobster claw, when we went to guest services they cheerfully punched a hold in out room cards so we could hang them around our neck. We asked for an extra card to keep the lights on without using one of our own cards. Everyone would wake up before 8 am on travel days and reserve spots at the pool so I suggest bringing extra books, hats, etc. to claim your space. We loved the water slides, ropes course, mini golf, even the library offered Monopoly and lots of other board games. Our excursions locations were switched due to hurricanes but they were fun. I loved when we boarded in Costa Maya we were next to an MSC ship. We had great music playing, cold towels, drinks, towel deposits, seats to hang out, staff greeting us like family while the other ship offered nothing but water & lemonade! The Garden Cafe' buffet was perfect for breakfasts & lunches. Our favorite extra cost restaurant was Le Bistro French, it was amazing and the best Sole my husband has ever eaten. We never made it to the 10:30 pm parties on the boat, we were asleep by then due to having very active days! The photographers really knew what they were doing and we loved all of the photos! Crusie Critic's meet & greet on the day after we left was an extra treat that made us feel special! My only complaint is that we arrived before the boarding building was open & I need a toilet. The outdoor potty was infested with flies that looked like giant fruit flies, they were in the TP and all over the building, it was gross but when you gotta go you gotta go! We are planning on going again next Thanksgiving to get the itinerary we missed this year, looks like the Escape won't be doing that one next year so we may have to go on the Bliss, poor us, lol!
