We travel all the time, and thought a Great Lakes & Georgian Bay (and the stops we would make) sounded like something different. We were happy to find the entire experience; the many people we met, the tours, the food, etc. exceeded our expectations. The crew was pleasant and happy, proficient, and eager-to-please. Though most of the 200 travelers on board were quite on in years (few under 60, even fewer under 50, the majority 70s and 80s), almost all were interesting and seasoned travelers. The tours ranged from Niagra Falls to Mackinac Island, to a First People's Cultural Center, a beautiful National Park, lovely towns with a variety of things to see and do... Our state room with its private balcony, had ample storage space, and was clean and spacious enough for my daily Yoga practice. I am strictly Vegan, and the Chef went out of his way to prepare delicious dishes for me, and my husband (who eat everything!) was also very pleased with the variety of meals. The stabilizers on the ship made for very smooth sailing. Read Less

This was the smallest ship I have ever been on, and being in my mid to late thirties I was very skepticle in traveling on this ship, however it was a very enjoyable experience on the Pearl Mist. Cruising on a smaller ship is a much more of a family, homey atmoshphere that being the only way I can describe it and although my cousin also in her thirties who I was travelling with was being asked what are you doing on here with us older folks we were truly happy to be there. Everyone was so friendly, the passengers, the crew, everyone!!! We stayed in stateroom 421, it was spaceous and had everything we could have possibly needed. The food was delicious, great choices all sit down meals. Our shore excirsions were included and it was only one tour in each port on the New England Fall Foliage Cruise. The only thing I wish there would have been more of was more activities on board such as maybe bingo more then one night or maybe organized card games, more entertainment then just the same singers in one lounge every night. That aspect of the ship has the potential to be much better. Overall we met great people on the Pearl Mist and had a great trip. Read Less

On 8/8/15, our group set sail on the Pearl Mist for a vacation on the Great Lakes with high expectations. Embarkation in Toronto was in an industrial warehouse in a secured area. A disappointing start with no access to Toronto for sightseeing. Disembarkation in Chicago was even worse-rather than docking at Navy Pier as advertised, we were docked 45 minutes south of Chicago in another industrial cargo yard which did not allow passengers the ability to disembark on their own to sightsee-for two days! The cruise line did not notify us this docking change until we were on board. The ship was very nice and the support staff was delightful. The cabins were spacious and comfortable. The food was mediocre. The on board programming was not plentiful and entertaining, such as you would expect from an EXPENSIVE cruise; basically there was nothing to do if you didn't want long bus rides. The ports of call were nice but there should have been additional tours offered at more reasonable rates. We were led to believe prior to booking that the excursions would be free or inexpensive. This was not the case. I have cruised over 29 times on most of the large company ships, riverboats, and sailing ships. This was a tremendous disappointment. The itinerary could be so fantastic and fun-the Great Lakes are a marvel-but Pearl Seas management needs to employ some programming personal who are trained and knowledgable of working with groups of vacationing people, of varying ages. I would not sail with this company again. Read Less

We have been on large ships and four previous cruises with American Cruise Lines, a sister line to Pearl Seas. The new Pearl Mist is similar to, but larger, than the ACL ships. Although there were some negatives on this trip to the Canadian Maritimes, the positives far out-weighted the negatives. The wait staff on the Pearl Mist was probably the best that I have encountered on any cruise! Likewise for the housekeeping staff. All were very professional. I have cruised before with cruise director, Chris Corbett. He has always taken care of any personal requests that I have had. Marci, the young cruise director, has a great personality and was liked by everyone. All other staff, the representative from corporate, hotel manager, dining room manager, etc., were very congenial. The staterooms were very spacious and provided in-room coffee makers and good internet access, one hour per day free and after that a slight charge. Meals were better than on most other ships. The servings were not too large, but certainly adequate. Three choices were provided for lunch and dinner. Breakfast was made to order. Entertainment was also very good. Through no fault of the ship we missed three ports. The train ride in Caspe' was cancelled due to a problem with the train. Although Sam Ladley was very interesting and completely knowledgeable of the areas covered on the cruise it would have been interesting to have had local talent come on board to discuss local interests. One of my favorite parts of this and other the other ACL cruises is the people one meets on these boats. The ships are small enough, this one was 200 or so passengers, one has an opportunity to mingle during the complementary cocktail hour or during open seating in the dining room. In 2015 we are back on an ACL fall cruise on the Hudson River. I do not rule out a 2016 trip back on the Pearl Mist. Read Less

From the time we boarded, good baggage handling, until the time we disembarked, we loved this trip!! We knew that we were going to be late because of the airline changing our reservations, so the Hotel Manager told us that we had our lunch in our room!! How wonderful, because we were really hungry. The chicken salad sandwiches were delicious, with fruit, and a home made cookie for each of us.! The ten days we were aboard, we had good weather, with no rain. The stewards, servers in the dining room, and all other personnel, were great! Marcie, the Cruise Director, was able to arrange a private tour for us when we arrived at Niagara Falls. It was our 55th anniversary, and this made us feel very special. The Captain was very personable and capable of giving us a "smooth" ride on the Lakes. We were able to get bridge tables set up for us to play each day after the tours. We had easy access off and onto the ship when in port. The food choices in the dining room were good, and the food well prepared. The lectures given each day were the BEST we have heard aboard any ship! One thing that impressed us was the "fire drill." It was taken seriously by all of the crew and passengers. Fresh cookies were available each day in the lounges, along with fruit, coffee, hot chocolate, etc. We are definitely taking a cruise on the Pearl Mist next year. Read Less

On the plus side, the rooms were large, great itinerary, included all shore excursions (due to many complaints and mixed messages, both from the office and on board), room steward and dining waiters were very friendly and helpful, nice lunches at The Grand Hotel and Pillar & Post, computers on board as well as 2 hours of free wi-fi a day if you had your own computer/ipad, Unfortunately, the negatives outweighed the positives. The first night our rug was soaked with water due to a broken pipe (room next to ours was in worse shape). They didn't have enough equipment, so we had to wait until they got more dryers & dehumidifers the next day. Then, we had the noise of that equipment for the next 3 days. Others had water problems, too. One room had water on the bathroom floor 4 of the 10 days aboard. The ship was full, so no one could be moved, except the people who complained about noise (see previous review) and exchanged with the musicians when others had more serious water problems! Staff were not honest about the problem--said it would be taken care of while we were at dinner but nothing was done. Communication, or lack thereof, was a problem the whole trip. The concert in Parry Sound was 2 hours late. We were 2 hours late to Niagara Falls, resulting in longer lines and eating lunch at 2 p.m. followed by cocktail party at 5:30 and dinner at 6:30. The onboard lecturer, Blake, was condescending, arrogant, and added nothing to the trip. We didn't meet anyone who liked him. We had problems with meeting family in Holland, although I tried to make arrangements beforehand. Lots of bad information from office and on cruise; however, a local Holland rep solved the problems--THANKS TO LINDA. Food was average compared to other riverboat cruises we have taken. Desserts were very dry. We have been on 5 US river cruises & 1 in Europe, and there were more problems on this cruise than all the others combined. We are not usually complainers, but I wrote 4 pages of comments to Pearl Seas. We will not recommend the Pearl Mist. Too bad because it is a nice ship. Read Less

Our stateroom was very roomy and near the elevator which provide access to the dining room on the lower deck. Often, my husband and I elected to use the short stairway across from the elevator. The decks were perfect for reaching the lounge that always had coffee, soft drinks and snacks throughout the day. , The Library provided reading material and a quiet place to relax and use the computer. There were several quiet areas if an individual wished to just get a way from their stateroom for a while. We always found the disembarking area great for reaching the dock. There were crew who offered assistance if someone felt the need, particularly some who used wheel chairs and canes. Our entertainment was provided by a naturalist/historian who not only knew his subject( no matter what port we were in,) but was humorous and enjoyed by all age groups. The excursions in each port gave a great overview of the area as well as special notable sites . They were well selected. The food selection gave choices from the area or you could select from the menu a variety of other choices. The dining room waiters were young and very willing to bring second items if desired. We grew to love hearing them welcome us. Actually, I noticed that groups often returned to a particular table because of the thoughtfulness of a certain waiter. The cruise staff knew everyone and attempted to provide "all" of their needs. Housekeeping was done timely along with comfortable bedding---- and fresh towels were always available.!!!!! Read Less

We have cruised with American Cruise Line (100 passengers) seven times so we were interested and excited to be going on the Inaugural cruise of the Pearl Mist of the Pearl Seas Cruise Line with 200 passengers. The trip was outstanding! From the time we embarked at Baltimore and disembarked in Halifax, it was 11 days of fun and relaxation. --the ship was lovely, with well-appointed cabins and lounges. Smaller rooms such as the library were also available where you could get away to read or just watch the world go by. --Our cabin was spacious with good lighting and plenty of drawer space. The beds were heavenly with sheets and a comforter comparable to a luxury hotel. The rooms were quiet, very conducive to sleeping. Our steward was a 5+, always available assisting us with any needs. --The dining room was pleasant in decor and ambiance; it was quiet so that conversations could flow easily at the table. The food was superb, with half portions if requested, and experienced wait staff who kept their eye on our table. --Port and shore excursions were great.....well organized, The tours were excellent and we had enough free time to wander or do extra things in port. Harold, our lecturer, was informative and a great speaker, holding our interest with some humor mixed in. --All of the staff on the ship were friendly and visible. They were very accommodating and helped to make the trip a great experience. --I was concerned about disembarkation at 6 in the morning, but a bus was awaiting us and our bags were ready to go out. It was a great send off! --The passengers were a "cut above,"...pleasant, interesting, and fun! Dress was smart casual, which was nice. --The trip was worth the price....beautiful ship, spacious cabins, lovely public rooms, with friendly and helpful staff! --We are looking forward to our next cruise on the Pearl Mist!
