My room was in bad need of repairs, which should have been done, before I stepped aboard. I had to spend the first 3 days, asking for repairs. This was a concierge room. The lunch was only open until 2pm, and if you left to go ashore , you returned to only a grill by the pool. Food should be supplied to everyone especially lunch on a fancy cruise. the ice cream closed at 4pm for the day. Who doesn't want ice cream at night. The shows were mediocre at best. Not professional , like on a big cruise. The food was just ok. the excursions were not planned well, and we barely got water upon returning from each excursion. The customer service desk, was not very helpful, and the excursion desk was always closed, so you couldn't ask questions. This was not worth the money, and I paid a fortune. I asked for a partial refund and was denied. I can go on and on with many other issues on this boat. It was not well prepared for guests, and not customer friendly. I did like the spa, although the changing room was not kept up , and was always flooded and dirty. Nothing to ever do at night. No disco, no nothing. Read Less

Just returned from the Tokyo to Singapore (25day)segment of the World Cruise on Insignia. (We were not advised at time of booking with Oceania that we were joining a world cruise)Spent a lot of money on this trip and have never had such a bad experience on Oceania. We were not aware we were joining aprox 360 world cruisers (w.c’s.) but found out right away that cliques had already been established and it was almost impossible to penetrate the barrier between the segment guests and the w.c’s. Getting a large table for dinner was near impossible (never experienced that). Several events were organized for the w.c’s (special events and private parties)while the rest of the segment guests were left behind with little and sometimes no entertainment at all. We also realized the segment guests were paying US$100 pp.pd more than the wc’s we assume to subsidize the world cruise. Never been on an Oceania Cruise where there were NO extra activities. Especially on sea days. It was the usual bag o beans, trivia, mini putt and table tennis. It was sooo... boring. We made our displeasure known to the concierge on two occasions and promises were made that our concerns would be escalated but of course we heard nothing. We have sailed many times with Oceania but won’t will be sailing with them again. Perhaps the new owners (NCL) are making their presence known. Read Less

We wanted to try a new line (we've cruised more than 20 times on Celebrity/Azamara) and Oceania had a cruise from French Polynesia to Peru. The selling point was a stop at Easter Island and then a post-tour of Machu Picchu. The ship itself was good. Our suite was spacious. The food was excellent in the specialty restaurants, average in the main dining area. Entertainment was hit and miss. There was a good comedian, a great pianist, a great magician and a terrible female singer. The on ship song and dance group was okay. We had two shows from each performer. Service was wonderful. The butler and room stewards were top notch and very attentive. Our butler knew I wanted Sprite Zero and when it was no longer available on the ship found some at one of our stops. That's over and above! We began on a bad note. The ship was scheduled to leave Tahiti at 9 p.m. Our Delta flight didn't arrive until 10 (they said not to worry, the bulk of the flight was passengers). That in itself says they expected us to arrive late. They took off immediately after and we didn't get our luggage until 3 a.m. To say that the first day was Tahiti and to spend one hour there in the dark isn't a great way to start. The stops in Raitea and Bora Bora were great, but I question 2 days in Bora Bora. There really wasn't much you could do at night in Bora Bora, so I question the overnight there. The stop in Fakarava was a joke. When there are no tours available at all--you got off to get a bit of exercise but that was it. The biggest disappointment, and the reason I gave this a bad rating was that we never got to Easter Island. It was called Pearls and Moai, indicating Polynesia and Easter Island, right? Wrong. We got to Easter Island and it was 'too rough' to send in the tenders (but we saw some boats circle our ship and part of others' groups. We circled the island, the pointed out some Moai from a distance and that was that. It was the reason we took the entire trip! I don't understand why we didn't know there was even a possibility of not getting to shore. I didn't think of checking the reliability of getting to shore. Why would you if that was one of the purposes of the cruise? It would have made more sense to spend one day on Bora Bora, and have two days at Easter Island. That way if you didn't make it to land on one day, you'd be able to the next. Sooooo disappointing. The closest we got to an apology was the captain announcing that he knew many of us were disappointed. Duh. Nothing added (like a free drink, or a discount on another cruise...) which leads me to believe that this is a common occurrence. When we left comments at the end of the cruise, there was no follow up, nothing in communication with us. Because we didn't stop at Easter Island we spent 11 days in a row at sea. Not acceptable. We took advantage of signing up for six of the cooking classes in their Culinary Center. That was worth the money! Stations for 24 people (2 per station) allowed us to learn about a specific type of food then prepare three dishes and eat them. We took advantage of the Roman, Sicilian, Greek, Spanish, pasta and Asian classes. It was our first time making fettucini! We are heading back to Celebrity. We would NEVER recommend Oceania to anyone. Read Less

We are not new to cruising as this was our 15th cruise but the first with Oceania. We were attracted to Oceania because of the French Polynesia itinerary as well as its reputation for good service and food. We absolutely loved the itinerary as well as the very good service by our cabin staff and butler as well as the food in the specialty restaurants. However, we found that the added costs were not compensated by our expectations for value. To begin, we were very disappointed by how we were received upon boarding as well as departing. Our experience with other cruise lines has been that we were greeted with a welcoming drink as well as food available. Likewise, upon departure, we have been provided with coffee and muffins/danish etc. None of this was available on the Marina. We arrived with 200+ people on our 8 hour overseas flight. There was no welcoming drink and by the time we checked in, all food services were shut down. One would think that a table of refreshments would have been provided by the ship. Similarly, upon departing at an early hour (5:40 am), that coffee and a muffin could also have been provided. This was neither a good first or last impression of the cruise. As part of our booking, we were provided with free unlimited internet access. This was a total joke since access was not available in most parts of the ship. Moreover, it was impossible to upload or download photos or documents. Finally, it was impossible to contact others via FaceTime or Skype. On all of our other cruises, this was never a problem, I then learned that for an added $15/day, I could upgrade to unlimited streaming. I did so. However, although I could sometimes (but not always) access FaceTime, I still could not upload photos or download documents. This was particularly concerning since I needed to be reached due to an ill family member. Needless to say, this caused considerable stress. I enjoy working out. The fitness center was tiny and the room for classes was even tinier. On a positive note, the fitness instructor, Diana was superb. She knew her stuff, was inspirational and very nice. There was a sign up sheet for classes which was done to limit the number of passengers attending. However, the fitness staff let in whoever showed up. As a result, there was often 20 passengers in a class that was listed for 12. This made the experience challenging and at times, unsafe. The Terrace Cafe had a limited variety of food. At times, I would have loved to have a scoop of tuna or egg salad. This was never available. Although a crew member was immediately available to serve us water, coffee or juice, anything else was simply unavailable. On three occasions I asked for sparkling water and never received it. The dining room was very pleasing. The staff was great. But the food was hit or miss. Some was excellent while others, just awful. The speciality restaurants were excellent. We especially enjoyed the Red Ginger. We found the cruise offered excursions outrageously priced. We only took one excursion from the ship - a one hour glass bottom boat right for $129/person. We enjoyed it but it was very overpriced. Alcohol prices were similarly overpriced. I didn't order one drink the entire time I was onboard - simply out of principle. The most outrageous cost was the airport to port & return transfer. Since we our flight arrived at 9:40 pm and left at 8:40 am and because we were unfamiliar with the services in Papaeete, we decided to take the transfers. Each one way transfer was $129/person. The ride was under 10 minutes. Worth of all, there were delays at each end. This was utterly ridiculous. From now, we'll stay with Celebrity our preferred cruise line. Read Less

We travelled on 30 January for a 10 day Polynesian cruise on the ms marina and what should have been the trip I dreamed off turned completely bad due to incompetent staff. I like to warn future travelers to have a good medical insurance, lucky we had one. But honestly I felt shy to present these bills to the insurance. We were totally ripped off by the medical center. I understand that everybody likes to make money but there are limits. I was treated for a dry cough and difficulty to bread (saturation of 92) for 6 days by intravenous with wrong antibiotics. They even checked blood twice and made chest x rays. The doctor was unable to give the correct diagnosis after a bill of 13000 US!!! The nurses are doing a great job but about the doctor I have my doubts about his capacity to do the job. He advised on disembarkation to visit another doctor, I should have appreciated if he should have offered that earlier, we could have disembarked in Moorea or Bora Bora and fly back to Papeete. On top the reception pre authorized without any reason twice 13000 US , so I had to wait 10 days before my credit card was again working normally. After leaving the boat I flew to Auckland where after doing a blood test and x ray they diagnosis pneumonia. Is as a doctor you cannot find that then you have a problem. This incompetence finally spoiled the trip that was my ultimate destination trip. And pretending that the cruise is for foodies is to much honour, the French and Italian restaurant are very good, the Asian is a catastrophe (I live in Asia and know what is what)the tom kha gai I ordered was like water and the curry was disgusting. The buffet at terrace café becomes boring after a while. I hope that future travelers will be aware of the practices on the oceania cruises, I confronted them with these issues on my return but found a useless customer service who seems not to be able to read and understand a mail. We have just returned from the worst cruise experience ever. The atmosphere on board when the ship docked at Halifax was close to a mutiny. The Captain was being asked to explain why we had endured four days out of ten on the sea instead of one. Why the ship had arrived at Halifax at 22-00 ? My wife had to spend the day in the cabin due to the ship circling for most of the day feeling sick and giddy. Then to add insult to injury a bill was received from the Doctor for $445 for my wife’s treatment for sea sickness---a more appropriate action would have been a note and some flowers to say sorry. It is outrageous to charge a single dime for her treatment caused by the ineptness of the ship . One of your ship staff admitted that out of the last seven scheduled stops at Sydney only once did the ship dock There were many guests calling for an explanation from the Captain and were given the lame excuse that he was asleep. There was not any explanation given for the delayed arrival at Halifax. The General Manager was given an extensive list of cabin numbers so that he could offer an explanation for the delays but he did not have the courtesy to reply. There were free drinks offered to say sorry but these are of no value if you are teetotal Additionally I had requested an anniversary cake and it took three reminders before the “surprise” arrived. The helpful waiter offered to deliver it to our cabin and we are still waiting for its arrival……. I complained about the portion size of the fish at the Toscana restaurant and did not get a proper explanation, only an ansafone message saying that the Restaurant manager will call back. I am still waiting….. The attraction to the cruise was New England in the Fall and the attractive eight places to visit. In the event there were only four Can’t help feeling that the Cruise was for the benefit of Oceania and not its passengers so that passengers could spend more while the ship sailed the Ocean. How wise was it for this voyage to have taken place given the weather conditions in the Atlantic at this time of the year I would like to say that the staff in the dining room and cabins went out of their way to be helpful. We were attracted by the itinerary as it visited some places to which we had not been before and we were swayed by the marketing that promised so much but as we discovered actually delivered well below our reasonable expectations. The food arrived invariably tepid or cold and was sent back. The tables were being cleared before all the table had finished eating. The drink prices can only be described as a rip off!!! A run of the mill wine we buy for £7 is marked up at $45 plus 18% service charge. The shower was cold for the early part of the cruise as was the cabin for the whole trip despite our represenations. The wind was lifting the curtains in our cabin and the noise of it could be heard by reception!!! Gaffa tape was provided as a short term measure but it was never fully weathertight. The entertainment was mostly disappointing apart from the pianist. We have enjoyed a number of other cruises but we would not sail with this Company again. Read Less

I have been on 2 previous Oceania cruises and chose this one because it left from San Francisco to many ports I hadn't visited and through the Panama Canal. Unfortunately, we changed itinerary for 8 days due to a tropical storm and missed 5 excursions. Communication from Captain or cruise director was terrible. No explanation for any thing. Morale among the passengers was very poor. I'm sure they lost some loyal customers (including my husband and myself) The food in Grand Dining Room and The Terrace is still very good, but a step down from what we experienced on previous sailings. Toscana and Polo Grill are still wonderful. Service staff in general were lovely, but some were poorly trained with snafus on drink orders and restaurant reservations which seemed to disappear even though we had the print out summary of our reservations from the front desk. There was no explanation, no apology and we were supposed to feel grateful that they managed to "fit us in." There were power outages and some ship sections experienced non- flushing toilets at times. The ship is due for an overhaul and we got the impression it had many ongoing mechanical issues. But none of this was address by the staff. Our cabin was quite nice and kept very clean by housekeeping staff. There was good entertainment and plenty of activities like Trivia, golf putting, shuffleboard, ping pong, Bridge lessons and games, casino w slots and poker tournaments, karaoke. But we went for the port visits and excursions, not endless sea days. Read Less

We selected this cruise for it's itinerary - San Francisco to Miami with stops in Catallina, Cabo San Lucas, Acapulco, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Columbia and Havana. On day one an announcement was made that because of Hurricane Sergio we could not stop at Cabo San Lucas, El Salvador, Nicaragua and we would get to Costa Rica very late in the day. Pretty quickly "Hurricane Sergio" fizzled out. With no further explanation the ports were not added back in. When questioned, the Executive Consigliere and others had no answer. The best we got was "we would arrive at the port at night". This explanation made no sense. While I am very in favor of safety, this seemed to be an opportunity for Oceania to save on port charges. Is the increase of spending on days at sea better for them? Some of the passengers had been on the Regatta prior to this cruise for an Alaska cruise (back to back cruises). The port in Juneau was deleted because of wind. These ports deletions gave us many more days at sea. On a small ship there is only so much bingo (45 minutes a day) and shuffleboard you can play. Another passenger told us that on a previous Oceania cruise that was to include Easter Island there were 11 straight days at sea also because of deleted ports. At the halfway point of the cruise we were given a survey to complete. We felt that the Main Dining Room food quality had really declined since our last cruise. We had several staff personally find us and discuss with us and try to rectify. Of course we mentioned the deletion of the ports on the survey - NO ONE addressed that with us. The excursions were not as good as we have experienced in the past. The last one - Highlights of Havana - was a waste of time and money. It was a bus tour. While the very high back seats were comfortable, they blocked vision. We could see very little from our seats. The tour guide was very hard to understand and he took us to a cemetery and told us we would have a special guide there who we should tip. The special guide spoke no English. Also the bathroom on the bus was out of order. Not good with the age of the group. Food in the specialty restaurants was excellent. Service there was excellent as well. We chose this cruise because of the great intinerary, half of which we never got to see. Before we even left San Francisco it was announced that we would be skipping three of the ports and we got to Costa Rica too late to do anything, basically missing four ports. There was no credible explanation given. Never an apology or offer off compensation. To top it off we had a horrific experience on the tour in Cartegena and asked for a refund. Hah! Of course not. This was our third and last Oceania cruise. Every one has had ports canceled with no offer of refunds or credits. We went on an Easter Island cruise two years ago and they cancelled Easter Island!! The food was mediocre. The entertainment was good, as were most of the crew members. Oceania customer service very poor. Every passenger we spoke to on the ship said this is their last trip with Oceania. Read Less

Primary reason for choosing this cruise was the ports of call. Unfortunately three of our ports of call were bypassed by Oceania; Carbo San Lucas Mexico, El Salvador and Nicaragua. Instead we spent 2 1/2-additional days at sea. It is like a cruise to no where. We have no idea why the ship was unable to arrive at Costa Rica on time. We arrived five hours late causing us to miss the eco excursion, which was most important for my wife and I. Since we had two and have extra days at sea, you would think we would have arrived on time in Costa Rica. We arranged a meeting with the ships general manager. We received little sympathy. As a matter of fact we were threatened by the general manager not to have conversation with other passengers relative to our disappointment.We are in the process of filing a formal complaint with Oceania's senior management and parent company(Norwegian). All in all the cruise was a big disappointment. The hostile atmosphere made us very anxious and apprehensive for 18 days. The cruise was my wife and my seventh cruise with Oceania. The Staff in the Terrace Café had a major communication problem. Most of them were(I believe) from India or the Philippines. You had to explain to them exactly what you wanted and half the time it was received incorrectly. Big disappointment. Read Less

We chose the cruise for the itinerary and the rave reviews on the food aboard ship The buffet restaurant was always overcrowded and offered limited selection Food quality was also poor: Soggy pastries,over cooked sausages, strange tasting scrambled eggs, soggy weird tasting French fries. At lunch time the buffet was the only option The main dining room food quality lacked imagination and was of average quality at best. Little emphasis on providing regional dishes or specialities. Each of the specialty restaurants was pretentious . While having some good dishes ( veal chop in Toscana, lamb in Jacques and red ginger) the French onion soup was watery , pasta tasteless ,crepe Suzette rubbery and bitter and pastries soggy . EXTREMELY. DISAPPOINTING!! The cabins were nice with a shower and separate bath, Shore excursions were well organized and had some great guides.However several were spoilt by unfit elderly travelers ignoring fitness recommendations for the tours by selecting strenuous walking trips . Only to complain and hold up the whole group as soon as any walking was required Entertainment was on the poor side. Boarding in Stockholm was time consuming but disembarking in Copenhagen efficient Staff varied considerably in performance. Some were very friendly helpful and attentive. Others down rite rude Last Crystal cruise was superior in every aspect. I cannot imagine how Marina has a high culinary rating!!!!! Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the time of year and because we wanted to see Bermuda. Paying a six star price for this supposedly six star cruise, we were so shocked when we walked into the cabin that if it had been a hotel, we would have walked out. You could stand in the bathroom and touch all four walls from the middle, and I am only 5ft tall! Overall the ship was very dated and shabby and the food distinctly average. I fully concur with the other reviews on this ship and would never travel with this line again, and shame on the six star booking company for not being honest about the state of this ship too. Did not get to Bermuda as we were scuppered by Hurricane Florence and spent 3 days parked in a dreary port near Canada. Although we were disappointed not to reach Bermuda, this review is not based on this fact. Read Less

Restaurants so tightly packed you can barely move......not enough staff - very haphazard service - overworked staff and not very personalized as they see you a couple of hours later and look right through you as if they have never served you.....menu looks amazing very well presented but does not taste that good - tasteless , badly cooked fish - food cooked way in advance......although some of the meals were good but not reliably so.... serve coffee with no spoon sugar and cream and have to wait 5 mins for someone to bring it in specialty restaurant...... did have 3 very nice waiters , excellent hostess in main dining room. Huge emphasis on drinking and gambling............shows mediocre and cruise director needs to retire. Cant hear any announcements from cabin. Book your own tours ridiculousy expensive - can book for ½ the amount on shore. Thing that really really pushed us over the edge was $89.00 transfer charge per person from ship to airport - transfers have always been included - very rude unhelpful destination services. Took taxi for $40 to airport for 2 people ......The service or food is NOT 5 star - have been spoilt by Viking River and Sea Cruises would not travel Oceania again. Great ports though. The first time I have not felt sad leaving. Not very personalized service like Viking. Read Less

When travelers rate a cruise, we can only compare it to others we've been on. For most of us, that means we have a limited perspective from which to judge a cruise, since none of us has traveled on all cruise lines, all ships, or all itineraries. My limitation in this review of Oceania's Riviera July 4 - 12 cruise from Venice to Athens is that all my eight prior cruising experiences have been on Silversea ships (Spirit, Muse, Whisper and Shadow). In my case, I found that this Oceania Riviera cruise suffered badly in comparison to my Silversea experiences. This time, I was traveling with friends who persuaded me to join them. They were not cruising veterans and had imagined that a 5.5-rated cruise line would rival a 6.0 line like Silversea. Sadly, for me, it did not. Admittedly, I much prefer small ships, and the Riviera holds 1,250 passengers -- more than twice the capacity of the Spirit or the Muse and more than three times the capacity of the Whisper and the Shadow. I didn't think the difference would be as noticeable as it was, and I did not care for it. By comparison with Silversea's suites, the Riviera's were shabby, even seedy. I ordered room service once -- a Cobb salad for lunch -- and it was abominable, arriving with no salt/pepper, no silverware, and no dressing whatsoever (I'd ordered the dressing on the side). The buffet foods and table service in the Terrace Cafe and the Waves Grill were barely passable, where many wait staff seemed tired and avoided eye contact. I saw there little of the quality or geniality I'm accustomed to in all of Silversea's dining venues. Incredibly irritating was the fact that internet service promised by the Riviera for all guests was unreliable, unpredictable, and nearly half of the time simply unavailable -- something I was unprepared for, accustomed as I have been to Silversea's much better internet connectivity, even on transoceanic cruises. Most of all, the silliness involved in having one's room key checked for the level of beverage plan we'd been pressured to buy on top of the cruise fare whenever we ordered a cocktail or wine at dinner made me feel like I had "turned right" upon boarding the Riviera. In that vein, I observed a greater proportion of heavily inebriated passengers on the Riviera cruise than I've ever seen on a Silversea cruise, giving the impression that, after paying extra for a drinks package, some passengers were committed to "getting their money's worth." For the record, I prefer cruising with cultured people who've led interesting lives and can contribute to conversations on a wide range of topics, not hammer down drinks from morning to night. On the plus side, the food and service at specialty restaurants -- Red Ginger, Polo Grill, and Jacques -- were better than at the Terrace Cafe. The suite cleaners / butlers were competent and pleasant, as were all the reception staff. The two ship-sponsored excursions I chose were led by pleasant and knowledgeable guides. Nonetheless, I look forward to my return to Silversea. Going forward, I will appreciate the Italian small ship cruising experience even more than before. Read Less

We were excited to travel on Oceania with our family of 5 and booked 2 staterooms for my husband, myself and our three sons in a separate stateroom. We were told by our Oceania travel representative and also confirmed with Oceania's website that there would be a Teen Club on board, a game room and a basketball / sports court on the top of the ship of which there was none of the above mentioned things for our teenage sons. There was NOTHING for my boys to do on this ship. The only game room is a casino and you must be 21 to enter. The sports court was in fact, miniature tennis (elderly sport) or shuffleboard. The food was okay at best. Red Ginger and Jacques were both very good and Toscana was above average. Polo Grill was terrible, truly terrible. The Grand Dining room was sub par as well and the Terrace Restaurant was a slightly upscale version of a Luby's cafeteria. The shore excursions were okay but one at Alicante, Spain to a beach at El Campello was terrible. We were literally dropped off a bus (after circling the block a few times) and pointed to the beach and then the bus drove away. It was supposed to be a resort beach but it was just a beach, no chairs, no umbrellas, no water sports, no bars, no nothing. We called to be picked back up and two hours later, we finally made it to a real beach to explore on our own. When we asked for a refund, we were offered 50% back only and told it was an outside company that does the excursions separate from Oceania and that is all they would refund. Unacceptable! The entertainment was all targeted to the over 75 crowd and was frankly bad. During the cruise one night, our stateroom toilet began to flush on its own and water began to pour over the top. I didn't see the drain in the floor so I was very concerned that water would begin to flow on to the carpet in our stateroom. I called the front desk and was told someone would come and take a look. After three minutes and no one coming, I called back as I was worried about the water and the receptionist literally scolded me and said "YOU CALLED ME 3 MINUTES AGO!". She was very rude. After the amount of money we spent, it was a sorely disappointing experience. I would not recommend Oceania nor will I ever travel with them again. Read Less

Last week I traveled on the Oceania Sirena to Cuba out of Miami. This was my fourth Oceania cruise but the first in about ten years ago. I stopped cruising on Oceania for one simple reason, Destination Services. This is the part of the company that handles the excursions for Oceania. Ten years ago Destination Services blatantly lied to me about an excursion and after explaining to them how this excursion was totally misrepresented they still would not refund my money. Now, fast forward ten years, and I find out nothing has changed with Destination Services. First, I purchased for almost $1700 the unlimited excursion package for my wife and I. First mistake! On day one I learn that morning while getting my bus ticket the most important feature of an all day excursion has be eliminated. Then I find out on the bus the second most important feature of this excursion had also been cancelled. In the end we spent 10 hours on a bus and really only spent 15 minutes viewing a pretty valley. Oceania spent this full day wasting 35 peoples time and not giving us the experience we all paid for ($558 per couple). Second mistake! The next day we had a morning and afternoon excursion booked. I find out by accident the day before the afternoon excursion has been cancelled and we can only take one excursion because of scheduling issues. Third mistake! On the 7th day we find out after getting off the ship and tendering to an island ALL excursions had been cancelled because of anticipated storms. What a surprise, the storms didn't arrive until 9 hours later all the excursions could have taken place. Fourth mistake! In the end I was charged $606 for excursion experiences which I not not receive. BUYER BEWARE! If everybody had my same experience you can multiply my loss by over 650 people on the ship and you have a pretty good scam going. From my point of view and many others I talked to on the ship Destination Services lacks credibility and I can not recommend Oceania as a luxury cruise line. They are a wanna be luxury cruise line and because they still nickel and dime on expenses, make you pay separate for premium liquor, excursions and gratuities they will never be in the same class as Crystal, Seabourn, Silver Seas and Regent. The one excursion I was truly looking forward to. Went thru the canal and on to Costa Rica. Did a walk in a cloud forest where we saw one bird and one poison is frog. Had two folks who never should have been on the exclusion because of inability to walk the trail and suspended bridges. After Costa Rica was informed that our Nicaragua port would also be cancelled. My second most looked forward excursion. On to Acapulco and Cabo (shore excursion shortened to 3+ hours). We also had a gastrointestinal issue that quarantined anyone effected for the remainder of the voyage. We were not affected with intestinal issues but unfortunately the crew was so overwhelmed that the service onboard was unsatisfactory to say the least.No one onboard was compensated until the last night of the voyage which was a 2 hour open bar and tell me how that benefits those of us who don't drink? We also were given credit for our additional shore excursion but ironically they credited us for a shore excursion that we actually took in Cuba. So what about Cartagena and Nicaragua that was part of our OLife package. We were supposed to disembark in San Francisco at 9:00am. We wound up clearing customs at 4:30pm which left us 19 minutes to get to SFO for our 4:49 pm flight home (United #1723) the last flight home. So we had to take a taxi ($62), rent a hotel room for the night ($158.35) and buy dinner($35.) when I asked one of the oceania agents at customs about taxi,hotel, and food he pretty much shrugged his shoulders and walked away. Very professional! For the price we paid (2-3 times what other cruise lines charge) we expected so much more than what we received. Did I mention the $500. tip charge that was tacked on to our final bill. A hefty tip for such poor service. We will enjoy Celebrity from now on. Most disappointing! Read Less

We chose this cruise based on the cruise line’s reputation and itinerary. This was our first Oceania cruise and it left a bad taste. The cruise was scheduled to be at sea for three out of ten days. On the first day at sea, we were told that the ship would need to make an emergency stop to tender an ill passenger to shore. We were to have another day at sea and the captain indicated that we would probably still be able to make it to St.Kitts on the third day. We were then told that due to some operational considerations we would miss the port in St. Kitts. The explanation left most passengers to conjecture that the decision not to stop was due to “bean counters” in the corporate office. We were disappointed about missing the port, but we were really disappointed by the lack of communication and candor. And, while sitting on the Regatta for three days at sea may seem like a luxury, there are very limited actiivities and facilities. The cruise line did not provide any additional programming for this additional day st sea — it was a repeat of days 1-2. If you are looking for excitement, look elsewhere. Passengers from what we could tell skew on the elderly side of the spectrum so having medical evacuations is more likely to occur. It’s unfortunate for those in an emergency medical situation, but Oceania did not handle this well. The first stop was Great Stirrup Cay, an island owned by NCL. It was not at all impressive. The lunch provided is privately catered on the island and was not great. Plus the eating area was bombarded by sea gulls. Service was mediocre. The other port worth mentioning was Nassau. We got into port two hours late due to weather. Other ships seem to have arrived as scheduled. Our late arrival severely impeded our ability to enjoy this port — we had day passes to a resort. Instead of enjoying a leisurely day it ended up being a couple of hours. On days at sea, people reserved prime lounge chairs early in the morning, then went to breakfast or back to sleep. The rule about reserving lounge chairs was not enforced. Otherwise, the pool deck was pleasant as was the pool. On the plus side, the staff on the ship other than the officers, were wonderful and food was very good. And that’s a good thing given there wasn’t much to do but eat. We did catch a few of the shows — the singer song writer and comedian were very good. We like the idea of a smaller ship such as the Regatta and are willing to forego the bells and whistles of a large ship for a more intimate experience. However, the lack of attention to or concern about the passenger experience really turned us off. We did meet many repeat passengers who have been loyal to Oceania. However, they too, were disappointed in the way the captain and other officers managed this cruise and many mentioned a decline in service since NCL took over. I would not recommend this cruise line based on our experience. Read Less

The employees at Oceania Cruises with the highest salaries must certainly be those paid to create the beautiful brochures which describe in detail the cruises and shore excursions that one will experience aboard their ships. They are masters at selling travelers a vacation that apparently that is far different than the one you will actually experience. We were so very excited to spend our honeymoon aboard the Oceania Regatta in the Caribbean. What could be more romantic than a 10 day multi island tour aboard a luxury sailing ship? Well, nothing – if you actually choose a luxury cruise line – which I assure this is not. The rooms are tiny, and the bathrooms so small you can almost touch the walls from one side to the other with your arms extended – and we were in a concierge level cabin. The very small balcony – or veranda as they call it – is just adequate – with barely any privacy as the people on either side of you are separated only by a thin metal strip so you hear every word they say. We did appreciate the service of the ship stewards who were professional and friendly and always greeted you by name. The same can be said of the restaurant staff – quite amazing and very welcoming. The ship’s management, however, is sorely lacking in customer service. We had a terrible experience with the director of shore excursions – we were treated so rudely by him in fact that as a result of that encounter we would never sail this cruise line again and would never recommend it to anyone else. The shore excursions themselves are a joke – terribly planned and executed. We were stranded at sea on a boat with a broken engine, left to fend for ourselves on a snorkel tour where were simply dropped at a pier with no supervision and left to board a pontoon with 40 other tourists from who knows where. There were tours that were cancelled at the last minute, and one tour which bore absolutely no resemblance to the description in the brochure. . A true waste of time and money. The disembarkation process was so chaotic it became dangerous, with passengers crowded into narrow passageways and staircases for almost 45 minutes. Our ship also experienced cancelled port of calls at the last minute (not due to weather) and no refund of port charges (these charges are included in your cruise fare and you do certainly pay for them). The food was quite good, the entertainment barely passable, and the ambiance and design of the ship - with a couple exceptions – is quite unremarkable. We have traveled on luxury ships prior to this cruise voyage, and I urge you to look at other options if you are in the market for a vacation that delivers what it promises. This cruise line does not. They cater to a much older clientele which you would certainly never know by looking at the misleading images in the brochure. When we returned home we sent a letter to Oceania customer service (as we were directed to do by ships personnel) outlining our issues and experiences with our cruise We received a letter back with a line by line refutation of our complaints which attempted to shift blame on us, the customers, for issues which we clearly had no control over and for which they refused to take responsibility . Not only does Oceania they not provide what is promised in all their printed literature, they apparently don’t even care. LOOK ELSEWHERE! Read Less

We specifically chose this cruise because of the itinerary. We were expecting a wonderful experience but from the first night on board our expectations which started very high soon went downhill fast. I was in the middle of cleaning my teeth when the water went off, no prior warning, it just stopped! After about 10 minutes it eventually came back but it was not clear and looked like coffee. I left the water running but it continued to be coffee coloured so eventually gave up and used the bottled water left in the room. Now this has happened in the past on other ships but usually a notification that the water is going to be turned off at a certain time is given. Just glad I was not in the shower! I pulled the plug from the sink and the water came flooding out from the drain hole in the bathroom floor, this happened on quite a few occasions. The ship broke down twice on the voyage but we did only miss one port of call due to being unable to tender. Our cabin (or stateroom) was very comfortable and we did spend a lot of time in our cabin but the loungers on the balcony were very old and broken and not what I would have expected from this cruise line. Once you start to look around you get the impression that money is not being spent on updating certain items like the loungers on deck, these were in desperate need of replacement and what you would find in a 2* hotel in Spain not a luxury cruise line. The food in the Grand Dining room was also disappointing. The appetiser, soup and dessert usually were ok but the main course never seemed to come as you would expect and if you were vegetarian, the choice was very limited and sometimes absolutely disgraceful, even the waiter said “I would not recommend that you have the vegetarian option”! The ship never arrived in port on time which meant that time ashore was shortened and on one occasion we lost three hours from our day ashore. The shore excursions were not always that good and were very, very expensive. The entertainment is very repetitive, there were not enough guest speakers, we had two, one absolutely brilliant but the other one was a bit boring. All in all if it was not for the very friendly and helpful staff which made our experience bearable we might have jumped ship early. I could say more but I think you get the picture that we were very disappointed and I do not think we were the only ones. A comment made from a lady due to embark the ship at the last port of call was to look around the shops “if it keeps me from having to get on board that ship”! We have no intention of going with this cruise line again. Read Less

It had the itinerary that I was interested in. My cabin mate and I were quarantined for 48hrs prior to reaching Honolulu and then advised that because I was still symptomatic we would continue to be isolated for another 48hrs and kept in isolation until I was no longer was symptomatic. She had no GI symptoms, only myself That was an unworkable option for me since I suffer from acute claustrophobia which morphs into anxiety attacks probably caused by PTSD. I'm a Vietnam veteran which explains the PTSD. It was recommended by the ship's doctor that we disembark in Honolulu which we did. We had upgraded to a Penthouse Suite 10 days prior to Honolulu for an additional $4,000 that became available in Honolulu. Our belongings were transferred from cabin 7115 to 8022 in Honolulu after we docked. CDC came onboard and conducted required sanitation procedures. While this was being done we were released from quarantine and I checked into the Tripler Medical Center Emergency facility (VA Hospital) for further evaluation and lab tests that took three hours. We returned to the Regatta and packed our suitcases located in the new cabin. We were in our new cabin for 35 minutes while we accomplished that task and then were escorted off the ship and checked into a hotel in Honolulu. We were advised by the Executive Concierge that none of the monies spent on the cruise even the $4K would be recoverable. There were many pax in the lobby waiting for their cabins to be ready, some requesting cabin upgrades. Obviously 8022 was now available so they flipped our cabin for another $4-6K before the ship left port. As I indicated, the food and staff were superb, the entertainment average and the land excursions below average. Guest speaker for the cruise was Adam Tanner who was also superb! Because of the horrible mishandling and the way we were treated.........it was apparent that those making decisions wanted us off the ship, I'm giving Oceania Cruises an "F". Read Less

WE chose this cruise to transit the Panama Canal Sirena Cruise (Oceania Cruises) We wanted to go through the Panama Canal so we got our agent to book a cruise that would do that and that would allow us to join another cruise from Ushuaia a few days after completing the first Cruise. We arrived in Miami and joined the ship Sirena having booked a vista suite which turned out to be marvellous and spacious with butler service. We then looked forward to Oceania’s widely advertised “finest cuisine at sea”. As the cruise departed Miami we treated ourselves to a G & T from the complimentary bar in our cabin and prepared ourselves for our first dinner of the finest cuisine. The ship had multiple restaurants and we chose to eat in the Grand Dining Room. We arrived for dinner and were seated with great flourish by a maître d’ hotel and asked if we would like a drink to start. Of course thank you. It arrived and we ordered from the extensive menu, and were asked by the waiter if we would like wine, so said yes please. The wine list was extensive and focussed on Europe, USA and South American wines but WITH PRICES listed. And what prices! They would put most local Australian restaurant wine prices to shame and we know how expensive they are. What the hell we thought we are on holiday. So we had dinner with wine, but the whole experience was dulled by the expense of drinks and wine, after having paid a prestigious price for a prestigious suite. No one had told us drinks were not included but not guess as seasoned travellers we should have known! Well breakfast may be a better experience. Breakfast was the usual buffet with a reasonable choice of brekkie fare, but there were no sugar free or sugar reduced items such a yogurt, juice or pastries., may of the choices needed cooking while one waited and waited and …….. The toaster was, as is always the case everywhere, slow as a wet weekend and required several runs through to get nice golden toast. Butter was all unsalted. So the finest cuisine left something to be desired and the meal was very slow while one waited for eggs, toast, pancakes and so on. All the restaurants were catering for rather non-adventurous tastes and the food generally was under spiced and under salted. It is a great shame this was so because the food was good and beautifully presented but lacking in flavours unless it was something simple like a grilled steak or dessert. I do not think that Oceanic has the ‘finest cuisine” afloat, we have been on ships with significantly better food. The shore excursions were all pre-booked and fairly expensive. Our first was in Havana and was a nice walking tour after a short bus ride from the ship to downtown. An interesting tour with an informative guide, but not worth the money it cost. Several other tours were simply a joke. One to some ruins was all day and we spent most of the day in a bus. Waste of money! Going to dinner one night in the Tuscan Steak restaurant my wife slipped on the top deck (painted but not non-slip paint) twice, the second time breaking her humours quite badly. We sat in the restaurant entrance and the maître d’ called some officer and the doctor. The officer was quite brusk and immediately said to my wife that her shoes were why she slipped. He continued to be unsympathetic and hung around like a bad smell even when she was taken to the medical centre. It got to the point where I requested he had nothing more to do with us. The ships doctor took x-rays and confirmed the arm was broken but could offer no treatment other than pain killers and a sling. At our next port we were sent ashore to a small country hospital where locals congregated in the foyer chatting and eating and were seen by the resident who spent ages collecting data on my wife. After several hours an orthopaedic guy turned up and confirmed it was broken and that an operation would be needed to repair the break. At this point we left and went back to the ship. It was not the sort of hospital where we would have an operation, even though it may have been perfectly good. We carried on with the cruise until we got to Panama City and while we were having dinner we were informed we had to go to hospital and a driver was waiting. I grabbed passports and a few other essentials and away we were whisked. Half way to the hospital a call from the ship informed us we had left our luggage and that we had to return to get it. What was I to do, return and pack three suitcases and then go to the hospital again with all our luggage and a wife with a broken arm who could do little? So we continued. Big mistake, but then again we were offered No help by the ship. We had left the ship and our luggage. We fully expected to return and complete the cruise but these hopes were dashed by the ship refusing to accept us back on board. We got my wife repaired and arranged to fly home to Sydney which we did and in so doing missed our second cruise. But that is not the end of the story. On returning home one of the first priorities was to contact the ship for return of our luggage. Discussions via email continued for a month and eventually our suitcases were returned with only clothes minus shoes and underwear, at my cost (over AD$700). So back to the email saga,. I have some 20 emails with the ship and Oceania’s office in Miami. A month or so later another box was returned, again at my cost, but again not all our goods. They had kept everything of value. Back to the emails yet again. Another month and some valuables were forwarded, but again not all of them. Some of my critical medications were not returned. Finally the saga plays out with Oceania refusing to send the last two items because they might create customs problems. I think they had no right to make such a decision on my behalf and their actions are tantamount to theft. I had receipts for the items they refused to send showing they were bought in Australia so …….. In conclusion, Oceanic has nice cabins with great cabin service, very average food but beautifully presented, shore excursions that are not good value for money and slippery decks that are poorly signposted and senior staff who have no sympathy or understanding of their guest’s plight. Their advertising, in my mind, is not borne out in practice. Although I cannot recommend them, but, they have many devoted cruisers who always travel with them. Make up your own mind! Read Less

Food went down hill service, laundry was close all lounges closed, all facilities closed, no coffee machines open. 18 days later now nothing in cabins and plastic cups for water. Novo Virus happens so learn to deal with it, we have all paid for luxury and ended up at Macdonalds! Staff very helpful but when so much of the ship is closed or events do not take place it’s become more of a prison than a Luxury Cruise. We were not I’ll but we might as well have been. Dreadful handing of a comman problem on Cruise Ships you dealt with it very badly. Lima be advised there is no shad on the dock and you are boarded straight onto the ship, some people in direct sun standing for two hours plus. Crews managed extremely well with Easter Island tenders my hats off to them. Don’t let this put you off for the first 5 days it was excellent we then filled in mid way Cruise comments and sadly went downhill next day. Read Less

My wife and I have cruised over 80 times in the last 10 years. Typically on Royal Caribbean-Diamond Plus; NCL-Platinum Latitudes; Celebrity and Princess. All have pluses and minuses, but we are not new to cruising. Lately, we have cruised primarily NCL, due to knowledge of the staff and captains on the various ships. We decided to try the upscale Oceania cruise line for a trip to Tahiti this January/February 2018. Booked Penthouse suite with Butler and expected "great things" Cruise from Tahiti was late boarding due to Noro Virus. Service was about as bad as it gets on a cruise the first day-no announcements! Butler was not nearly as good as what we have on NCL or Celebrity-forgetful, and always rushed. None of the staff was friendly. On the plus side, Ship was beautiful inside, with excellent dining room food. Because it is a smaller ship-105' beam, it moves a great deal in minor seas. Absolutely a rocking mess in anything over 8'. In our opinion, it has no identity-not good at entertainment-service-excursions-staff interaction-casino. Everyone does what is expected and nothing more. Not at all like NCL, where Butler/Concierge will make you feel like royalty. If you want great service and great food, book on Celebrity, or a Penthouse on NCL. This cruise line is 3 times the price and 1/3 the value. Read Less
