Last Bahama cruise before hurricane Dorian. The ports will not look the same for years. Donated to help those affected. Such a tradegy. Best 5 day cruise.ever. Inexpensive; Inside room for 2 under $700 total. Food was good, better than other NCL cruises in the oast Theatre entertainment was fantastic: singers and dancers were very professional. Singers also danced and did quite well. Free booze was added bonus though no longer available after September Normally take longer cruises but took this cruise for relaxation and not for tours and sightseeing. Close to home (Orlando),great price Would take this ship again to different ports Only negative comment: unless taking tours in Freeport ( swimmkng with pigs?) or a beach, not much to do but visit the shops at the dock. Docks are no longer in Freport proper. Shopping center 30 minutes away by bus and through new was literally EMPTY of tourists. Read Less

My family and I wanted to take a end of the summer vacation together. We cruised August 16-19th. We honestly decided to cruise Norwegian because of the open bar, because we normally cruise Royal Caribbean but drink packages for 20 is a tad expensive. Norwegian open bar was really not worth it the staff was so rude and made the guest feel unwelcome like we were annoying them. The food on the ship was disappointing. A lot of the food was like hospital food with little flavor. The service from the staff was horrible. The majority of the staff including the bartenders and waiters was that they appeared to be annoyed by the guests and seem to have a careless attitude about providing good service. I have travelled on other cruise lines so I understand what quality customer service is and it was not there on this trip. When I would approach a staff member with a simple question no one ever seem to have an answer and the majority of the staff was not able to communicate basic english to answer questions like “where is the bathroom”? Or “what time are we scheduled to be at our next destination?” We upgraded one of our rooms to a balcony and it wasn’t worth it. The room was so tight that you literally had to jump over one bed to get in the room. I really wish I had a picture of that mess. Also, before cruising I was told I had to put a $300 hold per room. I did not have to do that my room key was disabled from making purchases which was fine I did not want to make any purchases. So if your wondering I set my payment to cash on checkin and never went to the service desk to change it. No $300 hold and cards disabled. For smokers they don’t sell Newport’s so don’t run out. Based on this experience this will most likely be our last cruise with Norwegian. Read Less

Cuba and Key West ports from Port Canaveral. Very organized embarkation and disembarkation. Loved seeing Havana. We did our own tour witha private tour group and was very interesting and informative. Key West was great to see as well. We did the Trolley Tour through NCL to get an overview of the Key and then after, walked around on our own. We stayed in the Deck 6a cabins and was very quiet and sufficiently spacious and comfortable for 2 people with adequate storage. The staff were particularly attentive. Any issue was addressed immediately and with follow-up. They seemed to go above and beyond to make sure guests were enjoying their cruise. The open bar was great and there was plenty of staff available to serve. We have cruised Royal Carribean, Holland America and Celebrity and I would have to say that the service on the NCL SUN was outstanding. Nicely renovated ship too. The entertainment was also very good. Enjoyed the comedian and the big dance show, karaoke, as well as the numerous musical venues. Overall very pleased!! Read Less

It had Open Bar that saved us a lot of money! It was so clean and the staff was so nice! All the other cruises we've been on we needed sea sick pills. This was so smooth you didn't even know you were in the water on a boat! We loved it. It wasn't too long of a trip. Just the right amount of time. If I were to go again I would go again on Norwegian. The price was low compared to other cruises. I wish we would have gone to their private island instead of the Bahamas. Next time we'll book a different location. We liked it because we didn't need to get dressed up to eat dinner if we didn't feel like it. We could eat any time we wanted to. We were waited on hand and foot even while relaxing in a lounge chair and the tips were added at the end of the trip. I'm sure we'll go again one day!! Read Less

My mother's friend chose the cruise. My husband and I came along to help my 89-yr-old mother. The cruise started in San Antonio, Chile and ended in Miami. We had two additional stops in Chile, two in Peru, one in Ecuador, one in Costa Rica and one in Columbia. There were shore excursions available in all the ports, but we prefer to walk around and go geocaching. Often there were locals selling wonderful crafted items from little tents right on the pier. They want cash in US dollars, but most items only cost a few dollars. Take along a bunch of ones and fives. The guest services desk will also break a twenty for you. There is and ATM at the casino if you need more cash. The ship provided a free shuttle to get us out of the port area, but in Peru ports they dropped us off in an unsafe location. We could either pay a taxi to take us to a safe location for walking or biking or get back on the shuttle and go to the ship. There were police to make sure we did not wander off on our own. At the second Peru port we did paid extra to take a bus to Trujillo. We could not use our shore excursion credits for this shuttle, however! It was the same thing in Columbia. We were disappointed that we paid to be able to see the ports and Norwegian wouldn't deliver us to a safe place onshore. One of our shore excursions was overbooked and they ran out of food by the time they got to our table. We were offered 50% off that tour. In Costa Rica, there was a very steep ramp and several stairs to get back on the ship. That was a problem as three of our party of seven were physically challenged. The staff will come help you, but you need to ask. They don't volunteer. The food was great, as usual. We used both main dining rooms and the buffet. The waiters were mostly attentive. We found you can request a particular waiter (ask for Mac) and he will remember your preferences. There did not seem to be a lot of folks who wanted to share tables although that was available if you ask when you arrive at the dining room. We liked the anytime dining as we are early eaters. Our cabin was a handicap cabin for my mother. It was a little crowded for three people. Our steward, Juevan, was excellent! Even though Norwegian is discontinuing the towel animals, he made a new one for us every night. He also brought ice to the room when requested. Having had a more pleasant experience on Princess, I suspect we'll be sailing with them in the future. We've been to Alaska and the Caribbean with Princess. They were more attentive during the pre-cruise phase and the shore excursions were better planned. The ports were safer and the ramps to and from the ship was handicap accessible. Read Less

1.Excursions were poor: a. One poor English-speaking guide without a microphone for 40 people If your in the back of the bus you hear nothing. b. Excursions were not as advertised. I paid over $260 to go to an island to get pictures of South American birds but we never got on the island we were to go to and I feel very cheated. c. The setup for boarding excursions is poorly organized. They tell you to meet in the ship's auditorium at a certain time and then have wait for almost a hour before your tour is called for disembarking. I was the first to show up but was often the last to get out of the room for lack of tour directors organization skills. 2.Overall,the entertainment was good. The best entertainment on the ship was the three classical string players yet they were never given a space to handle the crowds who wanted to hear them. Furthermore, they were put next a bar with loud speaking and sometimes intoxicated people which totally destroyed the listening experience even if you could find a seat. 3. The food was mediocre at best! The head chef should be fired. He provided the the worst entree choices I have ever had on a cruse ( I have been on 15). The onion soup was little more than hot water ( I found no onions nor cheese). Thank goodness, the bred and desert chefs were excellent. 4. You need to have a setup for (equipment, lines and nets) for pickle ball. It is the fastest growing sport for seniors. 5.The cabin and dinning room service was excellent! 6. Bridge instruction and play was enjoyable, however, we were assigned to a play in an area with only small tables. Read Less

Buffet was decent. Shore excursions were not impressive and they were always late. They would tell you to meet in the theater at 8:45 but you wouldn't get called for your excursion until 9:45. Felt like a lot of time was wasted waiting for the shore excursions. We tried to go to the beach in Ecuador but it took 1.5 hours to get there. We were supposed to have 3 hours at the beach but ended up only getting 1.5 hours. Enjoyed the activities that were provided daily. Went to 3 specialty restaurants. The food was overcooked in the Moderno which is not the usual case for that restaurant. We were a bit disappointed. Shows were pretty good. Loved the quietness in our cabin. I booked the Sun cruise just two weeks before flying to Santiago, Chile to start this unique, fabulous memory 16 day cruise. I was also leaving the next day to fly to LAS from FL for a couple of days and then on to LAX to go on the NCL Star for a 8 day Mexican Riviera cruise, so I only had 5 days at home between these two fabulous cruises. Both of these cruises were enhanced with perfect weather, especially with all the time I was out on the top deck taking in (and capturing photos) the crossing of the Panama Canal. Our ports in Peru were eye openers to me with the poor living conditions. I had opportunities to go inside their churches - they were simple but also beautiful. As in almost all my cruises with NCL, I met wonderful, interesting and friendly people - both as other passengers and employees. As a solo, senior, female that is very important to me. The Star was even more enjoyable (SO many great eating areas with the Garden Cafe) than when I was on her back in September of 2016 for a 14 day repositioning from Copenhagen to Denmark doing Norway, Faroe and Shetland Islands, Iceland, Scotland and Dublin (my favorite). I DO enjoy NCL cruising! Read Less

Booked this cruise as a means to achieving a long held curiosity to see South America. By sailing this cruise from Buenos Aires to Santiago and following that up with the Santiago to Miami leg we were able to see a great deal if not the full monty. Not much space to do justice to 30great days but I’ll try! The Sun is a small ship and did suffer because of this at times on the first leg on sea days. This was especially true of the buffet where spaces were frequently at a premium. Size also meant that the options for light dining at lunchtime were very limited. Sandwiches were limited to filled croissants and there were few cold meat options. By contrast I found the range of choice in the main dining room to be excellent. In 30 nights I never duplicated a main course choice and was never disappointed. Of the speciality restaurants if found La Cucina and Los Lobos to be very underwhelming, but Le Bistro was excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment in the Windjammer, especially Kiefer Wiley, who always kept the party going. A young pianist, Walisson, had joined the ship’s crew at Buenos Aires so it was early days for him but he settled well and was well worth a pre dinner listen. We caught a performance by the ship’s singers in Bliss one evening. Backed simply by electric piano, they were superb and distinctly better than in the over amplified main theatre. The show and produced a similar quality performance at each of the Jazz Brunches we attended. Old adage if you’re good enough you don’t need to be loud. We didn’t use any of the ship’s excursions, joining fellow Cruise Critic members on a series of excellent trips. Not once were we in danger of missing departure and one of the early questions we were always asked was when does the ship leave? I’ll probably give a thorough review of each excursion on a post under South America Ports of Call. Special stand out mentions now however for Dennis Purtov at Puerto Montt and Patricia at Trujillo. We also had great experiences at Valparaiso, Coquimbo and Puerto Chacabuco. I have to say that embarkation at Buenos Aires was excellent. A clean, comfortable waiting hall, a speedy transition through check in and a good transfer by bus to the ship was a really good quality service. Compare that to the sloppy positioning of colour tag luggage, muddled exit pathways and haphazard progress through security at Miami and it was like being in two different worlds... and it wasn’t the third world country that was shown up! Just an extra point of minority interest. It was so nice to be able to run on the Promenade deck and not feel guilty. Runners don’t have to feel compelled to run on treadmills in a humid gym or up on an exposed top deck. We made so many new friends on this trip and hope to meet up again some time. A lot of that was down to a really active Cruise Critic Roll Call, so thanks for making it all such a great trip! Read Less

Our daughter, her husband, and our 2 grandchildren were touring South America, and the San Antonio, Chile to Buenos Aires, Argentina cruise allowed us to spend 2 weeks with them. By arriving in Chile a day before our cruise allowed us to climatize and have a relaxed embarkation. The embarkation was well organized and trouble free. The Norwegian Sun is a wonderful ship and layed out well. The amenities, dining, cabins, entertainment, activities, and services were excellent. This ship carries 1900 passengers and did not feel crowded. The staff were friendly, professional, helpful, and well turned out. We especially appreciated the cleanliness program to help ensure no on board sickness. We also appreciated the kids program which allowed them to have some time to themselves. The weather was good, but varied from hot & muggy to cool & very windy. All types of clothing was required if a person wanted to venture outdoors or an an excursion. At one point in the South Pacific Ocean we encountered a strong storm that was worsening. The bridge crew after considering the situation, decided to change our itinerary slightly and headed at top speed for the safety of the Magellan Strait. At no time did we feel unsafe. We would consider another cruise with Norwegian and recommend this particular cruise. Read Less

Wish they had a happy hour and afternoon tea. Some positive things: coffee maker in the room, fishes on the carpet to tell forward and aft, great entertainment, friendly staff and had only 75 percent occupancy. Just know what you are getting into before you go! The ship isn’t new but the cabins are spacious. Internet is slow and nothing available on tv like meals, bill, etc. NCL needs to revisit offerings on sea days. More activities. Activities appropriate for age of cruisers. Cagney ‘s was excellent! Food and service. There were no port lectures because the ship makes this path only once a year. So, no one could help and there were no maps available on the ship. Read Less

We normally sail RC and Celebrity. We gave NCL a try based on this itinerary. We enjoyed all ports and most port excursions. The Train, bus and boat adventure in Costa Rica was our only disappointment. Most of the sparse vegetation you could see from the train was dried up. Most of the excursion time was taken up by waiting for several bus loads of people to arrive and board each car. Not worth the money paid. Website information on excursions was inconsistent from info contain in onboard documents and conveyed by Shore Excursion staff. This resulted in our having to make several trips to Shore Excursions Desk to change pre-paid excursion choices. Garden Cafe food choices were limited, most tasteless and crammed two rows deep in small area. I understand that this is a smaller ship but I was still disappointed in food options. But having to reach over dishes of food to get to food dishes in back row just didn’t feel sanitary. It would work better if staff would serve food on back row. Temperatures in Stardust Theater and Bliss Lounge were so cold I would have needed a coat to be comfortable. As a result, I had to just skip some shows. Smoking in the open Casino area made the 5th-7th floor atrium area unbearable for me, Especially on the sea days. Unfortunately, I’m Allergic to cigarette smoke and I didn’t check out this Casino configuration and location on ship prior to booking. I spent sea days in cabin or up on top desks outside. I had to hold my breath in central elevators, which I tried to avoid using. Embankment was a nightmare of long lines with a limited number of stations open. Disembarkment went smoothly since we used NCL’s shuttle transfer service to MIA. Anyone not on transfer or excursions had to go to Guest Service to obtain disembarkment colored luggage tags. On other cruise lines, I was use to having luggage tags delivered to room. High probability that my experience on this cruise was based on the high level of satisfaction I had on prior cruises. I appreciated having a clothes line in the shower, having liquid hand soap and shampoo dispensers in bathroom. And the built in hair dryer. Our room steward was professional and very responsive. Fitness room offerings were impressive and early morning activities were free. Given the value pricing for a 10 day cruise and the itinerary ports included, I’m glad we booked this cruise in spite of the above stated issues. We made the best of things. Read Less

Wanted to experience Cuba and the Central American countries in the Caribbean. We were a group of 7 in 4 cabins traveling with extended family. We found the number of ports excellent. The scenery, beaches, people and flowers were stunning! Visiting Cuba and riding in an old car was like stepping back in time. Going through the Panama Canal, experiencing the rainforests of Costa Rica, swimming in the warm waters of Roatan, Honduras, lounging on the beach in Belize were all highlights for us. Loved the staff in the main dining rooms, bars, and buffet. They made us feel like family. The “washy washy” people kept things clean and sanitary. There were two who played a guitar and sang “I want to wash your hand” to the Beatles tune. Would have liked to see more shows by the cruise singers and dancers. Yes, I would go again. We chose the Sun because we had been on it a year ago and like the smaller size and we loved the 15 day itinerary which included some places we had not been in many years, like the ABC islands. It went to Cuba, which was ok for some, they have so many rules to follow to visit, plus you have to purchase a special Visa, but when they said, bring your own toilet paper......? It also included St Lucia, Barbados, St Kitts, San Juan(which I was pleasantly surprised by) it was lovely, St Thomas and Stirrup Cay. When not in a port we were in the 2 pools which are so nice and refreshing but not too cool. They took out some of the tables by the pool and put in more lounge chairs which was a good idea. We chose the drink and specialty restaurant packages. Le bistro, is my favorite, we went there twice. The changes were subtle but everything looked clean and fresh. The food was good but sometimes it was a little hard to find tables. At breakfast instead of the cafe buffet, we found out that if you went to Modernos they had great made to order omelets and waffles, fresh fruit, etc with no lines. Magans bay beach was absolutely the safest and most beautiful of the ones we went to, although they were all lovely. The entertainment was very good, singing, dancing, the one comedian juggler, Dan Bennett, was exceptional. Everyone was so nice and very helpful, especially Bradley in the photo studio. We wanted to see the island of Cuba for many years and finally got to. It did not disappoint. NCL helped with the Visa and provided a lot of information about the island before you disembark. The ship is one of the smaller ships in the NCL lineup but it was renovated in 2018 and very well organized. Very few times did we ever stand in line at the buffet and when we did there were just a couple of folks ahead of us. They always had a full schedule of things to do onboard during the days at sea. The staff was awesome. They were always so kind and friendly and went out of their way to make sure you had everything you needed to enjoy your cruise. The only reason I rated this trip a "Good" instead of "Excellent" was I thought they were a bit lacking in the options of shore excursions at a couple ports. Other than that I would recommend this cruise to everyone. Read Less

We cruised with friends and picked this ship because we wanted to see Cuba. I checked Cruise Critic and wasn't expecting a superior experience. However, to my surprise, it was one of the best cruise experience I have ever had. We usually cruise 2-3 times a year, typically, to get out of the cold so we have been on lots of cruise lines and ships. The staff on the Sun, on many numerous occasions, went out of their way to help us and always with a smile. The food was fabulous and we joked and had fun with the service staff. Everyone was professional and pleasant. I can't say enough about the ship ( staff was always cleaning ), the warm and friendly staff, and Cuba was a fabulous port. The only downside I had was the comic who decided he needed to insult only one side of politics. As many of the "comics" today do, targeting only conservative women and insulting their looks or weight, is not comedy, in my opinion. It was so bad, I can to complain to the entertainment director and was told he heard it too and it was inappropriate and would talk to him. Hopefully, that happened. I came to cruise to have a great time, which I did, not to be insulted. The other shows were wonderful. Read Less

Entertainment - cruise standard but smaller production... still putting together nice shows and games. During original embarcación we needed to wait about 30 minutes for a wheelchair and this should improve. We met nice people. Casino slot machines worked well and staff was efficient. Overall staff was helpful and knowledgeable. Rooms were kept clean by staff. NCL should be more transparent about Cuba visas by adding a highlighted link. A few carpeted steps in the 5,6, and 7 floor stairs need to be repair as they may become a hazard. One of the banisters in the middle elevator was almost out. The current methodology is physically uncomfortable and it requires too much standing time. This methodology should be given the thought of using better technology as an option. Read Less

Room was very nice. It was one of the "suites" or at least one of the nicest on the boat. Food at Cagney's was very good. As long as you don't need anything you will have a great cruise. If you need the smallest thing such as having the beds separated as instructed when cruise was booked, then that will be difficult for them to manage. They never brought extra pillows which were requested when cruise was booked. If you need a bandaid and the band-aid dispenser ($1.00 a band-aid) is empty, they will be happy to call you at your room once the band-aid dispenser has been refilled, for you to then walk back down to the medical room and put four quarters in a dispenser. Had to ask three people for band-aid, finally our butler provided three band-aids to us. The staff is polite, and not welcoming, they seem like they have just gone through some kind of corporate training to be nicer, and it really didn't stick. Other service failures occurred, and we never felt welcomed. Only the butler: Benny was helpful and kind. This is my third cruise: Disney, Royal Caribbean, and now NCL. Embarkation/Debarkation Super smooth. We arrived by car a tad early as the road trip didn't take as long as expected. Luggage/porter was easy--no lines. Parking at the Port Canaveral terminal was easy. We were through security, checked-in and had boarding group 1. At debarkation there was almost no line (we did self-assist) and we walked off the ship and through customs quickly (8:30a). We were VERY impressed to see a couple of the ships Officers, a chef and other staff at debarkation to say goodbye/thank you to the guests. That is a very nice touch! Lunch at Embarkation-- there were so many places to find lunch, we chose to sit at the Great Outdoors Cafe. Easy access to several buffets and bar service. Standard buffet fare (Moderno/ Garden Buffet/ Grill) - salads, deli, pizza/pasta, burgers/hot dogs, a carving station, mac n cheese. etc. Not exciting food by any means, yet plentiful and accommodating. Staterooms (cat BB- deck 8 mid ship) Staterooms show their age (size of bathroom!). Well cleaned by the steward. Balcony is narrow so it fits 2 chairs and a tiny table large enough for coffee. We asked to have the balcony opened between our 2 staterooms and were told it is a "security issue" and could not be done. We have had this done on several other cruise lines--and suspect they denied it because its a short 4 day cruise. Impressively there is LOTS of storage--the cabinetry and closets have more drawers/shelves than the avg balcony stateroom on other ships we have sailed. I used the "hero" response card to acknowledge the efforts of our steward. IMHO the stewards have heavy work and are unsung heroes. MDR We had dinner twice in the MDR and both meals were very nice. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the starters and entrees. The service was cordial and efficient. There is a red/white wine chosen for the evening and that worked fine for us. Servers were accommodating to change wine with courses. Chicken Cordon Blu, Spaghetti Carbonara, Beef Roast, Pork Shank, and Steak Chimichurri were all nice choices. The desserts were hit or miss. The tiramisu was excellent. Neither the creme caramel nor the souffle was good. I did complete review cards on both nights that we were pleased with our meals and received acknowledgement in our stateroom from the Dining Mgt. Lunch/Buffet. Was happy to see an offering on the buffet each day that wasn't typical (thai noodle salad, or a lightly seasoned beef (picadillo?) with a creamed corn top layer (I forget this dish's name). Beyond that the buffet offered the same fare as embarkation. The carving station had terrific roasted chicken Bar Service. Being inclusive certainly speeds things up by removing the swiping/signing. I didn't see any option for tipping The Bar "menu" is the standby and it seems a bit difficult to order "off menu". It was a bit bar/locale dependent. Getting a scotch "neat" was problematic..and sometimes it came over a glassful of ice cubes. Sometimes we could get "1 piece" of ice. Bartenders tell us It is a ship policy meant to discourage the "shooters" behaviors. I was able to get some drinks without the simple syrup/added sugars or at least less of it. There wasn't an issue with bottled water not being part of the package--as the pool bar had a large chilled dispenser and cups. Any bar would provide seltzer or tonic water with lime etc upon request. Entertainment We enjoyed the quartet in the Spinnakers Lounge and watched the Karaoke. Bliss was fun for dancing though gets LOUD. People seem to forget or ignore the no drinks/glass on the dance floor. Someone dropped a drink which shut down the dance floor and when someone dropped a glass it took 20 min while it was cleaned/mopped/vacuumed and then inspected. I tend to take off my heels to dance and greatly appreciate the efforts the staff goes to to prevent slips from spilled beverages on the floor and glass! Pool/Deck The pools and hot tubs were CLEAN and didn't smell heavily of chlorine. That was wonderful. That said the last sea day the pool was packed and it is best said to venture in at your own risk. Poolside Entertainment is obnoxious and tasteless. The men's sexy legs got more and more vulgar... and the women's Ms. "Sun" 2018 was basically a classless twerking show. When a rain burst came through the entertainment director suggested a "wet T shirt" contest. He also made some race comments that made that made our millennial adult kids wonder if the guy would have a job! Our mid 20's sons (and their crowd of 18-29 group that had met and were hanging out by the hot tub) thought the Mr. Legs and Ms sexy Sun contests were ridiculous AND not appropriate for a mid afternoon ... There were families with children. Poolside music was too LOUD whether is was canned music or the bands. The bands were good--just way too LOUD! You had to shout to be heard by the person next to you. The Better poolside entertainment was the ice carving and the water balloon throw. There have to be other "clean" choices like the "minute to win it" challenges that would allow for passenger participation/spectators rather than the lurid legs/twerking contests especially when families are present. Specialty Dining We chose to try Cagney's. It was amazingly Disappointing. We cruise often enough and eat at specialty dining several times each cruise to have some ability to measure it. Cagney's tables are too close together and the noise was deafening. My chair and the chairs of 2 of the 6 people next to me were within 6 inches of each other while seated. We could hear conversations from the people around us and could hardly hear each other. On one side of us some people didn't have table manners- they can't handle a fork/knife properly. And on the other side of us we heard a greatly misinformed husband/father misinforming his wife and daughter what Bearnaise is and how Chimichurri is prepared (only to be corrected by a passing waiter). The obnoxious women to my back that spoke so loudly so that everyone knew their business which was classless. However the prize for bad form of the evening goes to the young woman with her foot up on her chair so her dress was up exposing her behind while sitting in a specialty dining establishment--that was just trashy. Those kinds of behaviors ruin the evening for others. Certainly the Maitre D could have spoken to people to be more thoughtful to others. I don't think the Maitre D runs the restaurant as a place of Fine Dining. While the beef filet and spinach were excellent, the rib eye (fatty and poorly trimmed) and the NY Strip - (cut too thinly) was not any better than a very avg restaurant. It was a special occasion (32nd wedding anniversary) and we were at a loss. It took about 15 min to get coffee after dinner. 15 min!! We did speak to the Mgr at the end of the evening. He said he could have moved us to Bistro. Honestly-- I had strolled through the other restaurants mid-meal and Bistro's tables are well apart from each other and its MUCH quieter. IF Cagney's is that much more popular--then NCL should really swap the dining rooms and use the smaller venue for Bistro OR not take as many reservations for Cagney's/remove tables. Without laying an eye on the dining room itself and the table layout--we will NOT choose Cagney's again on any ship. In as much as 3 of the 4 meals for our party of 4 were poor quality-- we'd likely stick with MDR. Public Restrooms On the first night of the cruise BOTH bathrooms near the Spinnakers Lounge/Chapel overflowed. It started with the mens room toilet which was leaking urine and water from the floor-- and there was a large amount of water and urine (better than an inch deep) in the mens room and soaking the carpeted area. Within the hour the women's bathroom toilet was also full and water/urine was flooding the ladies room. It stayed this way for HOURS! It was during the karaoke etc and the bathrooms were being heavily used. It was disgusting. These bathrooms needed to be shut down!! The Ladies restroom between the Topsail BAR and the Garden buffet was FILTHY on day 4. The floors, the doors. It smelled of urine. I saw a "cleaning woman" in there completing her form--and gathering the trash BUT she did not wipe down the doors that were covered in grubby hand prints, the sticky/yucky stall walls..and the toilet paper/water/urine on the floors. Absolutely disgusting. I did report this to a manager who said he'd pass it on to housekeeping. An hour later it was still in the same deplorable conditions. Wrote a note to the Hotel Director about both of these public restroom issues and got a call from housekeeping that it was being "remedied". However-- my point is it should never have gotten that filthy--and the public restrooms should have been cleaned MANY times each day. We have sailed other lines where public bathrooms are not only continuously cleaned All Day Long--but also there is staff present to clean them/wipe up during heavy use hours/dinner service all evening. Passengers The pax were a mix of families, singles and couples of all ages through retirement. Several languages spoken onboard including English, Spanish, German and Dutch. By and large people were congenial and polite. Families with small children/middle schoolers/tweens--ALL children we observed were well mannered and supervised. We only saw 1 outrageously drunk man (on embarkation night) who wandered into the Spinnakers Lounger partially clothed (he was dealt with promptly). Fare We paid $2100+ per stateroom. deck 8. BB. 8226/8227 Party of 4. The daily rate of $19+ per person per day was added to onboard account as expected. We used the specialty food credits but never used our 100 min per cabin free wifi. My daughter and son gave my husband and I this cruise for our Christmas present, and then told us they were going to. We couldn't believe it, even my daughter and son in-law from Nebraska were coming along. It had been a long time since we were all together on a vacation. We had no idea what to expect, had not even been on a fishing boat, let alone a ship. When we got to Orlando we visited Disney Springs and had a great meal and Balloon ride. We boarded the Sun the next morning, and the staff were already serving drinks and food, and had a band playing after lunch,at which time we decided to look at our room. Our luggage had already arrived and our Stateroom Steward Rene Kirit had our room cleaned and ready to go, he made sure we wanted for nothing the entire trip, and cleaned our room and replenished our towels at least two times a day and made sure our ice bucket was always full, and there was a new towel animal in the room everyday, I can't say enough about Rene or the rest of the staff, always smiling, friendly, and willing to help you anyway they could. The dining rooms offered a different menu every meal, what a treat to have such fine dining all included, the entertainment was awesome, a different show every nite. We had a blast on all of the beaches we went to,I even learned to snorkel, now I'm hooked on it. The best part was spending time with all of our children, enjoying all of the activities and shore excursions, like watching our grandson para-sailing. Read Less

Needed a much mental break. My family member always take Norwegian Cruise line! We have taken the Epic Ship before and were well pleased. Because of other commitments ,we could only book a short trip .My mental state upon returning was great. The Sun Ship was more then I expected, cabin with balcony was roomy, plenty of closet space and drawer space. Our dining expierence was fantastic ,we did not have a bad meal ,ever at The Seven Seas! The shows were great, keep your feet moving . The staff (every one) no matter where or what they did to serve you were great. So on a scale of one to ten, I give a 100%!!!!! We wish we could book another Sun Cruise and have a Mini Suite! We would like a seven to ten day vacation. The Sun was refurbished before we went, they did a great job! We would give this ship an excellent review! Read Less

We planned this cruise for about a year and was so excited to see Cuba before it became "Americanized." This particular cruise was the only one that fell within our timeline for our group. The embarkment and disembarkment at Port Canaveral were fantastic. When we walked onto the ship, there was no one to greet us or direct us. We simply wondered the ship - checking it out. We joined the cruise director who was giving a tour of the ship. Our luggage arrived timely. Our room was small but clean. Good thing it had been cleaned before we arrived because our steward did not touch it again. The towels were left laying on the floor for days, and we eventually ran out. The food was left in our room. No tidying up at night time and no towel animals. The food on the ship was less than satisfactory. The few restaurants included in the reservation had only a few choices. It was the same food each day. The wait staff was so rude. They would literally take the plate out from us while eating. They cleaned our tables while we were still eating. The other restaurants on board were pricey. Alcohol was complimentary and a wide variety was available. The ship's customer service center lacks professionalism. They act like they are bothered if they have to answer a question. The bars and entertainment were good. The casino was just ok. The cruise director and staff were fun. Shows were professional. Entertainment was offered nightly, except for the overnight in Cuba. Half of the crew was given leave to go enjoy Cuba. That is great for them, but a lot of the ship was closed and service was slow because few staff members were left on board. Speaking of Cuba - don't go! It is just filthy. Bathroom facilities are non-existant. The "restaurants" are so dirty that we didn't eat or drink while ashore. We had to take our own toilet paper and drinking water from the ship. Make sure you attend the seminar on what to do and not to do while in Cuba. The locals were not friendly. There was no place to shop. It is stiffling hot and there is no breeze. The stinch from sewage in the streets is nasty. Some areas are great, but other areas are not. The women and children were begging for money and some were charging $5 to take pictures of them. We went on the cigar, rum and art excursion. It was interesting. We bought cigars, rum and coffee while on the tour because of price and quality. Our souvenirs were purchased from the ship giftshop because there was nothing to buy downtown. If you do decide to go, hold tightly onto your valuables while out and about in Cuba. Read Less

I cannot wait to come back!!!!! Everything was amazing!! First of all, embarking and disembarking was super organized so no stress there. Once you are all settled in you have soooo many options, so many things to do you will not be bored. Open bar was simply an amazing bonus on top of food and service and everything else included. Our cabin was cleaned every day super well and the entertainment was the best. We danced so much and laughed so much. My boyfriend and I went for our birthday and we had an absolute blast. Regardless of how busy a bar or a restaurant may have been the serviced we received was always polite and handled in the fastest way possible. Just because this is open bar doesn’t mean it’s a cruise for crazy college students. I saw all ages in this cruise having a blast. There’s something for everybody at every hour of every day. I’ve had friends that have been on other cruise lines and their explanation of how good of a time they had is no where near as good as mine!! 20/10 for Norwegian !!! Read Less
