Liked the stops on this cruise, but didn't realise they were so short. Some were tendered and they took forever to get people off with waits up to four hours! Not good when you only have a short time somewhere. Restaurants were a shambles, very long queues all the time, service poor and always luke warm food. Food was very limited in choice, particularly if you have dietary requirements. One of our group is coeliac and it was very difficult at times. Think they like you to hate queuing, so you book specialist restaurant which are overpriced and food no better. Best meal we had all week was Teppanyaki - at least food was hot. Theatre entertainment was poor, not a lively ship. We had a suite which helped and that was nice. Cabin staff were really good. Some of the bar staff were plain rude. The staff on board need training, no doubt about it. The overall package onboard is mediocre and it doesn’t seem like they care at all. So, although we had a good time, we would not choose NCL again. First time traveling on NCL we've done a few RC and last year a Costa. Always wanted to try NCL and this was the most brilliant itinerary. Ship was lovely and clean. We had an interior ocean view cabin biggest ocean view cabin we've ever had with lots of storage. Big shower, sink area and toilet. Food onboard was all very good. The pub was great with fantastic chicken wings, pastrami sandwiches, bangers and mash and America cheesecake. This place was great when you didn't want to go up to the buffet. We went during the school holidays so the ship was sailing at full capacity at times the service in the dining room could be very slow - they did have a lot of staff but at times felt like they needed more. That said the staff worked incredibly hard and were always very accommodating and great with the kids. The entertainment team were great, shows, magician and violinist. The entertainment team were energetic and fun during sessions of bingo and the white party and again interacting with the kids they always seemed to have time for everyone. In general the ship is very relaxed and you more or less wear what you want, we enjoy dressing up so did on a few occasions and didn't feel out of place at all. Ports were brilliant. A little short at times but with only a week we get that you can't be in a place all day. Unfortunately due to weather conditions we couldn't go to Mykonos which was really upsetting at the time. We did ask for compensation but they explained that it states in the contract If they can't dock due to weather conditions there is no compensation. We did on 3 occasions arrive at our port of call early giving us more time. The only negative I would say is the need for tender tickets. As everyone wanted to get off early people were queuing as early as 6.30 am to get the first tender tickets you need these for Montenegro, Santorini and Mykonos. That said they did escort you off the ship very quickly. With the exception to Montenegro where we were an hour late due to port difficulties. As NCL come in last at Santorini the cable car queue was not busy at all and we were up in no time, it's also great as you don't leave till 10pm at this port. It's the last ship to leave. If you are traveling during the summer holidays you do need to expect a lot of queuing: for tenders, restaurants on the ship and generally in the ports of call. We knew to expect this so went with a laid back attitude. But if you don't like the queues would recommend going out of school holidays. Our girls absolutely loved it and didn't want to leave. We didn't use the kids club but it looked great fun. Since the renovation they have obviously taken off the yellow slides and splash zone for the kids. Which we didn't know about, we were disppaointed when we boarded and noticed that it had gone. All in all a great fun ship with very good food and brilliant ports of call. We didn't take any excursions with NCL but arranged our own that would be more fun for the kids. We rented Harley Electric Scooters in Corfu and really got round the whole town and even found te locals beaches - we really saw a lot. For Santorini we rented a four seater Buggy which again was a lot of fun we saw a lot of the island Oía and Fira. In Argostoli we took a brilliant electric boat and cruised the lagoon spotted sea turtles. We walked the wall in Dubrovnik at 8am - completely worth it you see the whole of the old town with beautiful views. Then walked the old town. If we had more time we would have kayaked as well the water was beautiful. Everything we did was great fun and kept us as cool as possible considering it was August. It was a great family holiday with beautiful destinations. Would definitely sail NCL again. Read Less

Overall terrible experience. Upon arrival we are told that the first stop on Koror was cancelled. We were given no notice beforehand. Talking to travelers from the month before it appears they knew about this in advance. Instead we stent one full day in the shop with not much to do. The pool is way undersized for the ship so really crowded. Long lines for most things. We never spent more the 6 hours in any location which is definitely not enough for most islands we visited. WiFi is overpriced as expected but also terribly slow and unreliable The worst though is the noise at night. We got one of the nicer rooms on the 11th floor and the noise from the parties at the pool was unbearable. It went on until midnight or even 1 am. They advertise these rooms as ideal for families but my kids could not sleep until 1 am which made them very difficult to deal with the next day. Staff is nice but this ended up been a very expensive vacation which felt like a stay at an Holiday Inn. Read Less

My youngest niece said "Daddy, can we go to Venice?" and that started a domino effect of trip planning so that by the time we booked, there were a total of 15 people travelling, two extended families including three kids, two teenagers, five adults and five seniors, two with limited mobility. Once we got to the terminal at the Port of Venice where NCL handlers expertly took care of my mom in her wheelchair, we were fine but it was a nightmare before that. Our privately booked wheelchair accessible vaporetto had to cancel because it was too rough to transfer my mother safely so we took the regular Alilaguna to the cruise terminal. We were shocked to find absolutely no porters or baggage trolleys at the pier and the embarkation was nearly a kilometre away in 40 degree heat! I left my folks and the luggage in the shade and went ahead with my sister's family to see if I could find a shuttle to the ship or at least a porter. No luck. The security guys said they couldn't help because of union rules. Finally, I waved a 20 Euro bill at a taxi stand and said, "I need HELP!" None of that was NCL's fault but it might have been nice if there had been an NCL employee stationed at that end of the terminal to radio for assistance. We were treated like royalty once we got the bags dropped off and into the VIP check-in area. Embarkation took approximately 20 minutes and we were on-board not long after that. Dining would have been a lot easier if our group would have split into more manageable groups of 4 or 5 because trying to arrange 15 people at one table was near impossible. Some of our group was pretty unreasonable regarding times because they didn't want to miss a show but Karin the Concierge did her best to coordinate with our needs. Again, that's on us, not on NCL. I didn't care where or with whom I sat, I just wanted to enjoy the great food. As suite guests, we visited Moderno every morning for breakfast and wow, left-over churrascaria filet mignon for my steak and eggs...YES, PLEASE!!!!!! That was the best part of my trip, hands down but all of the restaurants were good. Our fantastic butler was Rosevy and she was always bringing us plates of fresh fruit and replenishing our ice bucket and helping my mom! She would let herself in, quiet as a mouse and we would find all kinds of surprises and treats when we awoke from a nap! This was my first time staying in a suite and honestly, I would never have thought the extra cost compared to an inside cabin was worth it...but now, I'm a bit spoiled. Never having to wait in line to get on the ship was a really nice perk. *sigh* I'm just going to have to sell some vital organs or pray to the upgrade fairy for my next cruise. *sigh* Our group loved the Trivia activity many times every day and it became our gathering spot to check in with one another. I personally didn't attend any entertainment so I cannot comment but I was most often found floating in the pool. On the last day of the cruise, I purchased a day-pass for the Thermal Suites and spent several hours soaking, lounging and snoring in the relaxation room. oops, sorry about that! It was so much quieter than the pool area. Since we had such a large group, we organized private tours at most of the ports of call and that suited our needs. Santorini in particular was a beautiful port. My dad had a bit of difficulty but it was his choice to go ashore and he was a trooper! The cruise did make it clear that it would be challenging to get around. When it came time to disembark, we had absolutely no problems. The entire process was swift and easy. Overall, the Norwegian Star was the perfect venue for our Mediterranean Family Adventure. Read Less

The cafe was always very crowded but the quickest way to get food. The first stop on the ship was very disappointing because the tender tickets they did not have enough for all passengers. We had to wait until tender #17 and staffing was very rude to the remaining passengers who were very frustrated. Many people didn’t understand the process. We didn’t get off the ship until 430 pm . Other ports went well over all.Spa services I enjoyed and the deck. Food was ok, we didn’t do any of the specialty restaurant. Drinks we enjoyed, the beverage package was worth having. Excursions we picked were good. We didn’t make any of the shows on this trip due to dinner at 830 and the shows were at 930, we didn’t leave the restaurants before 1030. Read Less

One day prior to embark, I received an email stating that they had to alter the route due to something that I didn't understand. Tried to call the NCL agent who sold me the trip and I got no answer. At the end, we visited one less country and spent 36 straight hours sailing. The pool is too small for the amount of people cruising, there's literally no space for anything. 50 people fill the pool. The buffet was always overcrowded, we always had to make a line to get something. The Premium beverages pkg is absurd. If you want a drink after 3 am, the only open bar tells you the bar is closed (for alcohol) The "free cruising" dining option is not convenient, there's always a line of people waiting to be seated. There a re a lot of hidden charges (communication phone to phone within the ship should be free, not 10$ per phone) The quality of food was fair, I expected a little more for the price I paid. We selected this cruise based on itinerary and no at sea days and were not disappointed. Our experience may differ from others as we stayed in a Suite and had the luxury of priority embarking and disembarking at every port - this alone was worth the extra $$. In the hot sun having a Butler escort you to the front of the line was slightly embarrassing but equally appreciated. We stayed in a Family Suite that was incredibly spacious and perfect for our family of 5 with children ranging from 8-15. At night time the sleeping sections would partition off so that we did not all need to go to bed at the same time. Our Butler Percy was helpful and lovely and we loved the afternoon treats each afternoon. Brussel our room attendant was friendly, efficient and did a great job of keeping our room looking clean . Karin from Concierge was incredibly efficient and ran a great team. The pool are was really busy and noisy but there were lots of sun loungers scattered around the ship that you could always find a quiet spot. Our room had floor to ceiling windows and we enjoyed relaxing in our room more than I expected, on board it was often windy so having the great view to watch the world go by was certainly a bonus. We did not do any NCL organised tours but from speaking with others they enjoyed theirs. Unfortunately our itinerary changed 2 days out due to the Venice port authority requiring the boat to dock early on the final day so we did not visit Kotor - was really disappointed but it was out of NCL’s control. Dubrovnik Lots of taxis when you leave the boat, not so many for a family of 5 but we did find one. He took our for a tour of various places around the city and then dropped us at the old town. The old town was beautiful but a crush of tourists - the boat usually docks at 7am (with the change we docked at 12) so I would say go early and you may not experience this. It was a lovely walk back to the boat - maybe 20-30 minutes. Corfu There were no taxis for 5 so we walked into the old town. If you decide to walk it is around 20 minutes - just don’t do what we did and follow the brown driving sign to the old town as this takes you a different route that is much longer. Walk along the waterfront and you will see the old town and work out how to reach it. We enjoyed walking around and finding somewhere nice for lunch. We also found a nice seaside bar close to the fort - this had a public beach below if you feel like a swim. Santorini We were the first tender off the boat so the cable car queue was quick followed by a 20 minute public bus ride - we just asked around how to reach the bus station. The bus picks you up in the same place to take you back to the cable car, just ask the driver how often. I think it was 2-3 euros and it helps to have smaller change, Santorini is beautiful, busy and expensive. Loved going there and the view is incredible. There was a long queue for the cable car so we decided to walk down. Such a shame the donkeys use the same trail as it really is an easy, gorgeous walk down. Just watch out for donkey doo and the donkeys do not give way so walk with caution around them. I would not take this trail if you do not have good balance or with really young children. Mykonos There are supposedly only 31 taxis on Mykonos - out kids were exhausted by day 4 and we decided to have a beach day but all the NCL excursions were full. After leaving the boat we found a place called Mykonos Getaway (it is located further along the waterfront on the left up the small hill just before you reach the road). The lovely girl suggested Ornos beach that was not windy and we were not disappointed. It was 30 euro for 2 x loungers and an umbrella. Gorgeous sandy beach with lovely clear water. The return trip was 80 euro. Bar and restaurant service on the beach. Loved our day here. Kefalonia This was our favourite stop. We pre-organised through Kefalonia VIP Tours and Transfers a 4 hour island trip. Spiros suggested places to visit - we decided to do the Melissani Cave/Lake and not the other cave. Lake was beautiful, our driver George got us there before all the tour buses and the queue was minimal. He then stopped at a cute fishing village followed by a photo stop of Myrtos Beach. We wanted some beach time so he took us to a gorgeous place called Assos Village where we had 1.5 hours for a swim - this village and beach is incredibly beautiful. There were sun loungers and umbrellas for 10 euro for 2. Love, loved it! George our driver was so interesting and shared lots of information about Kefalonia. Food We thought the food overall was a 7/10 and they do really well to cater for so many people We were pleasantly surprised by the good quality of food in Versailles one of the no charge restaurants and dined here 3 times. If you find a waiter or waitress you like you can request to dine in their area. We had lovely Jinky who was our waitress, she remembered what wine we liked and was so friendly and proud of working for NCL. We ate at 3 specialty restaurants - Tepanyaki was fun and food good. We could only pre-book a table for 4 so changed it when we arrived to 5, not a problem. We loved Moderno and thought like the Japanese - food was of superior quality, Le Bistrot was just ok but we did have an exceptional waiter. The kids sometimes had snacks from the main buffet but we did not eat her or if we had to would just take a plate back to our room. With a suite we were lucky to have different options for Breakfast and lunch. Staff Every staff member we encountered was friendly, they work really hard and deserve the service charge. We did hear some guests being really rude when there drink order was wrong or one suite guest being so rude because they could not get the restaurant booking they want ‘I’ve got the top guys card do I need to get him involved’ - wow - I can not believe people spin such lines! you get back from staff what you put in is all I can say. Be friendly, kind and you will get the same back. Overall it was a fantastic first cruise. Yes the boat was a bit older but it does not stop you having a good time. Lots of shows and other activities on offer that we did not do so I can not comment on these, The only show we did see was a magician one that was good. After dinner our kids tended to swim as the pool was empty and quiet. Read Less

The NCL experience is why we keep coming back. The Greek Isles Cruise out of Venice did not disappoint. Although we had to skip the Montenegro port (due to the changes in Venice port), the remainder of the ports were amazing. There were NCL tours for all ages and abilities. Venture through Kings Landing fed our Game of Thrones fix. The Greece tours Best of Corfu, Greek Style Celebration - Opa! (Santorini) and Melissani, Meze & Ouzo (Argostoli) all were informative and includes the best food and fun. We have sailed on the Star previously (2012). We like the smaller ships, less passengers and easier to maneuver about the ship. The cabin was perfect for our needs. The steward took care of our needs. My wife hurt her should the day before embarkation. He ensured we had ice in our cabin at all times. The dining was wonderful. The restaurants, both included and specialty, have great menus, serve and ambiance. We used the buffet mainly for breakfast and lunch. Food allergies and needs were at the forefront in each dining spot. The only improvement would be reservations for specialty restaurants. They are not for spontaneous dining. From past experience, we knew the difficulties, so we booked ahead based on our excursion plans and ports. Whether the music through out the ship or shows in the theater, the entertainment was great. An improvement can be made for the theater shows. Once the shows started, guests continued to come in. It interfered with viewing. There didn’t seem to be enough NCL staff to monitor it. I would suggest no further entry once the show starts. Embarkation was fine. There was an hour delay in our hotel to port transfer. Unsure of the reason. It was raining in Venice, and we stood in the rain. Luckily, we brought an umbrella. Once inside, we moved through the line quite quickly. We filled out the short health questionnaire while on line. Disembarkation was quite easy as we had a post hotel stay. We automatically were set up. The latitudes rewards were also great...discounts for excursions, on board purchases and even a bottle of champagne in our cabin are all worth it. The spa was fabulous. Purchased the thermal spa passes...worth it! Next time may book spa cabins that have it included. Booked massages and acupuncture...the staff was professional and the services amazing. The acupuncture helped relieve my wife’s should injury. Would we go again? ABSOLUTELY. We already signed up for CruiseNext putting deposits on future cruises. Read Less

A travel agent suggested this cruise because it met our date and destination needs. We had issues with everything from the WIFI to the key/charge cards constantly. We stayed short periods at the best destinations and long periods at the bad ones. The butler service was terrible compared to what we’ve experienced on other cruises. The fitness and spa facilities were sub-par. The best food was in the included common areas. Fine dining options were not fine. At one point a tour guide abandoned the tour! The pool was often closed without explanation during sail times. Thankfully we had a nice suite to hide in and the countries we visited were amazing. We finally figured out to start doing our own thing at each port. The entire staff seemed bored and overworked. Also communication with NCL was very difficult prior to departure. Very long hold times and they never answer the phone. Read Less

The Norwegian ship is my favorite and its itinerary included Venice, Italy Croatia, and the Greek islands which were the places we wanted to visit. We traveled with my two teenage daughters- 17 and 19 years old and had Senior citizens- 3 with us (their grandparents and my aunt). We had 3 cabins. My daughters found the teenage entertainment lacking, however they are used to larger ships as "The Breakaway" and all of the activities-including slides. The ports of call were beautiful and we had excursions in almost all. We ate at 4 Specialty restaurants and liked 'Cagney's" the best- although my parents were disaapointed to order a bottle of wine and have a charge of $14 added because it was uncorked- this is something that Norwegian should not do to their guests who have paid so much to travel with them (they did complain at guest services, but were told it's Norwegian's policy). We did not have any freebies as alcohol or beverage packages- siocne we had the early bird balcony guarantee. It was a memorable vacation since all of those places were so breathtaking! Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the port of calls. Croatia Montenegro and the Greek Islands with Athens. The star was recently refurbished, thankfully but you can still see its age... our room for one. The star is a mid range to ship and we definitely noticed a difference compared to much larger ships. It was nice not having so many people on board. Also, on larger ships they would ask everyone to be back 2 hrs prior to sailing. The Star only require 30 min giving more shore time. The drinks were good. The food was average at best. Specialty restaurants were better. Service was hit or miss. I coined a phrase that it was faux 5 star service. Meaning everyone acted very professional and pleasant but you didn’t always get what you asked for or things were forgotten. Still waiting for my Caesar salad. The entertainment on board was NOT good. Basically the same two bands for 11 days. And they were not very good... did I mention that. Also the pool snack bar served the same food for 11 days. Hot dogs and hamburgers. Yes you could go inside to the cafe but really... 11 days of no change. They couldn’t have switched it up and had anything else?!! Tacos, pizza, chicken anything. I never want to see another hot dog. He kids and teen club were great. Our kids loved it and met friends from all over. Our room porter was great. The ports of call weee great. Some lines and crowds but if you do your research you can circumvent most of it. Look for the side streets and find cheap wine and food. Even though the ship wasn’t the best for us I would do it again in a heartbeat. . Read Less

This is our second cruise with Norwegian and we will use them again, Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly. This ship was updated and quite nice. Our cabin on deck 10 was great. Housekeeping was always pleasant and friendly. All cruise staff appeared happy and friendly. Dining was excellent. All the restaurants we tried were great. Our favourite was LaBistro. Elegant. The entertainment was great for the most part. We Thoroughly enjoyed the dancers and aerialists. The destinations were beautiful. Each place had its own unique flair; for spectacular blues, stark whites, dark greens, breathtaking beaches etc. You need to watch as the ship goes through the fiords to Montenegro. Shore excursions were well worth it. We saw more locations the we would have on our own. Be careful of hop on hop off cruise excursion in Venice. The ship docks later there so we didn’t get to go to many of the stops because the hop on hop off ends too soon from when the ship docks. Overall I would recommend this cruise. Read Less

All in all a great cruise, nice ship, great weather, good service and food. Ship is nicely refurbished and fairly clean. BUT: be prepared to pay extra for absolutely everything and even for nothing ($15pppd “Service fee” whether you like it or not!). Alcohol is ludicrously expensive, whether you buy a package or not ($14 for a mojito, $45 for a double shot of whisky). They try kid you you’re getting special deals and discounts but with mark-ups in the region of 6000%, you’re being screwed regardless. And excursions are terrible, insanely expensive, generally lame, chaotic disembarkation and you get herded around like cattle. Ended up sitting in the theatre for an hour and were the very last tender to leave the ship on 2 occasions! Don’t bother, just get off and do your own thing. Also a real shame Norwegian are doing very little to reduce their plastic consumption. Cutting out plastic straws just doesn’t cut it when they’re handing out 10000 plastic cups on average per day! This was our first time on Norwegian and we had an excellent time overall. The Star is a midsized ship that was refurbished and overall it was good. It lacks many of the features of the larger and newer ships that we've been on (no water slides, rock wall, zip line, etc), but we knew that and it wasn't a problem because this was a busy cruise with stops every day. The food was very good. We ate mostly at the specialty restaurants and the main dining room as opposed to the buffet. The quality of the beverages was also very good (Grey Goose level spirits) and a large selection of beers and wine. The only odd thing was that single malt scotches were very expensive with only one qualifying for the beverage package. The shows were average to below average compared to what we've seen on Royal and Carnival. Cripton the magician was not very impressive and his shows were very short. The customer service was very good all around and comparable to other cruise lines we've been on. One complaint we have is it seemed like the ship had the worst position at every port of call. Lots of tendering where this ship was always the furthest from the dock and when we did dock we always had the longest walk of all the other ships. We did two Norwegian tours, one was the Game of Thrones in Dubrovnik which was great and the Opa! tour in Santorini which was ok but not great. It was super busy and the dinner/show was entirely cruise passengers and not at all authentic. We went with two kids, age 4 and 8 and they had a blast. There were very few kids on this cruise, but they had a fully staffed kids club that they both really liked. Read Less

I chose this trip because of the ports and the timing worked with my grown children's and grandchild"s schedules. We had adjoining balcony rooms on deck 10 (starboard) and my son had a balcony on 9( port) so a great view always available. We came in early to avoid flight problems and to have extra time in Venice. The hotel associated with the Cruise line (Crown Plaza Quartro del Altro)was nearer the airport but located right on the train line (30 min.ride) to Venice, thus allowing us 2 full days and evening in Venice. The transports from the airport and to and from the Star was effortless and smooth. People were there to help every step of the way. Embarking and Disembarking went like clockwork and transportation was seamless. We left Venice at Sunset and the view was stunning. We arrived back at Sunrise....no better lighting to see Venice from the ship. All of our excursions were better than I anticipated in the views and experience offered although more physically challenging than I was anticipating (but I am 70). Staff was always friendly and very professional. Housekeeping was very friendly and did a wonderful job of caring for our rooms and our request. Room service in the morning was very timely and delicious to enjoy on our balcony. Meals in the dining rooms was fun, fancy and very good. Specialty Dining was very fun and took our celebrations of birthdays to a very fun level...loved the cake. The Spa was never crowded, the thermal suite was always available and never crowded. I had a perfect manny/peddy on our last day that was so wonderful. My granddaughter loved the Kid's Splash Academy although it was a little hard to locate on the ship. Signage could be better in public areas in terms of Aft/Forward...a few more public clocks with ship time would be helpful too...but all in all we never missed a thing. And I won in the casino! Thank you NCL. Only real criticism is the Magician the first night was awful...#MeToo people....old man humor..no, no! Read Less

The cruise was an awesome experience especially as I was traveling with a large group. The staff was awesome, especially at the Topsiders lounge. My only complaint was the shore excursions. Each port had at least 2-5 cruise ships tendering at the same time. This caused chaos as their were thousands of travelers trying to see the same port at the same time with limited transportation options. The 2+ hours waiting for transportation was insane and the limited time at each destination made it very frustrating to enjoy the island. This may be an issue that the cruise industry should address as it wasn't just an NCL problem. The more popular destinations i.e. Santorini and Croatia seemed to have the most difficulty with transportation and not enough time in port. There should not be 6 cruise ships at these destinations, at the same time. It was the highlight of my trip and ultimately the most difficult to enjoy due to the crowds. Read Less

We have done the majority of our cruising on DCL but as our boys aged we decided to try other cruise lines. We cruised the Med last summer with RC and we wanted to experience sailing the Adriatic and I especially wanted to experience Venice. After much research, NCL offered us the best itinerary. Port times were short but we did enjoy the variety of places we visited. We stayed at Hotel Villa Rosa for a few days before the cruise. It is a short walk to the train station and about a 30-minute total walk to the port. We didn't use the people mover and found the walk easy. (I did notice it is still a 10-minute walk from the people mover to the port.) Venice is not a large suitcase friendly city and we saw many tourists struggling to navigate the many bridges with large suitcases. We are a family of four (17 and 13-year-old boys) and we only travel with carry on luggage. This trip, including before and after the cruise was a total of 16 days (5 flights, 5 trains, 2 hostels, 3 hotels) so we have learned to pack light and travel with fewer hassles. We booked in an inside stateroom on deck 12. The room worked well for us. There was plenty of room for our luggage and the bathroom was roomy compared to some of the hostels we have stayed at. The location was a 30-second walk to the pool deck and the Garden Buffet. I do wish the in-cabin movie selection was better. I know most people do not intend to spend a lot of time in their rooms but we do enjoy watching a movie as a way to unwind after a long day. This is a great perk on DCL. The room steward kept our room clean and we had no issues. We did have him push together the bottom beds to make a queen size bed, but this does really limit space in the cabin. We did enjoy some of the entertainment. The comedian/magician was entertaining as well as the aerialists. We did not care for the Tango dancers or the "big production" shows and ended up not staying more than a few minutes. We did the trivia and other family activities offered and they were enjoyable. We did not visit the casino and never encounter much smoke. There is smoking allowed at the Sky High bar but we usually just grabbed a drink and moved on. The Garden Buffet was good but people tend to needlessly line-up. There are multiple buffet lanes but the lines at the first lanes were always long. *Pro tip* head to the port side of the buffet for more buffet lanes and more seating. We never had to wait for a table on the port side and the furthest buffet lane was always empty even the omelette station was no waiting. The service in the restaurants was hit or miss. Versaille was much better than Aqua. I did have to get the head waiter involved with our unacceptable service in Aqua. He did his best to take care of us the next evening. O'Sheehan's was a lesson in patience and they always seemed understaffed, but the food was good. It wasn't terrible service just not at the level we were expecting. There is only one pool but seven hot tubs. There are a lot of loungers and for those looking to sunbathe there was plenty of room but it may not have been on the pool deck. Disembarkation was very smooth and we did utilize self assist. We ate in the buffet and headed off the ship about 9:00 am. We walked to the train station to catch our 10:50 train to Milan. PORTS We found out after we boarded that our stop in Kotor was changed to Bar, Montenegro. I was super bummed about missing Kotor! The ship docked in Bar and port time was 4:30-9:30 pm. The dock is in an industrial area and passengers are shuttled to the city center. Bar is a regular city with not much to offer tourists, but they do have a beautiful church. Our plan was to find Avis and rent a car for a few hours. We never did find Avis but in a strange twist of fate we ended up renting a car from a resident and driving the 45 minutes to Budva. It was a nice drive and Budva was a quaint city with a walled old town to explore. We drove back to Bar and checked out the "Oldest Olive Tree" and dropped the car back off. We headed back to the city center and grabbed the shuttle back to the ship. Corfu 10-3:30 Dock We walked the 20-25 minutes to the Old Fortress. We climbed to the top to see the views. It was challenging since it was pretty hot, but the views were worth it. We then walked a short distance to a bar/restaurant named Imabari that offers a swimming area. We ordered a few drinks and enjoyed the water and the views. Around 2:30 we headed back to the ship. Santorini 2-9:30 Tender It was announced that tender tickets were going to be handed out starting at 11am in the Bliss lounge. I was worried about the tender process and I did not want to end up waiting for hours for a tender so I grabbed a book and headed to the Bliss lounge at 8:30. There was one other person waiting. The staff came by and said we didn't have to line up for tender tickets but we were completely content with waiting and soon the line grew pretty long. The crew started handing out the tender ticket at 10:40 and we got tender #1. By the time I left the lounge, they were on tender #5. We expected the tenders to start being called at 2 but we arrived early and the crew started calling tenders at 12:30. The process was very quick and the tenders held around 200 people. We were on that first tender. At the tender port, we took the high-speed boat to Oia. It was 15 Euros a person which included the boat, bus to Oia and then a bus to Thira. We had decided to do the 11km /6-mile walk to Thira from Oia. It was a tough hike that took about 3 hours but the scenery was beautiful. After we arrived in Thira we took in the sunset and then walked down the donkey trail to catch the 9:15 tender back to the ship. It was an amazing day! Mykonos 8-2:30 tender We took today easy and did not worry about getting on an early tender. We got on a tender around 9-9:30 and just walked along the water to the 5 windmills. We explored the area for a while and decided to check out Mykonos Brewing Company. It was a 20-minute walk from the main tourist area. The brewery was great. They offered a flight of 6 beers for 10 Euros. The beers were very fresh and the staff was friendly. We walked back to the tender pick up spot and got back on the ship. Argostoli, Kefalonia 9-2:30 Dock We rented a car from Thalassa Car rental. It was really smooth and they were waiting at the dock for us. We drove to Melissani cave and did the boat ride. We drove to Asos to climb to the Venetian castle ruins. The lookout for Myrtos beach is along the way and we stopped for some pictures. We ran into a road closure on the way back to Argostoli which added a little stress but we made it back at 2:20 and joined a long line of other passengers embarking. Dubrovnik, Croatia 7:30-12:30 pm Dock We were able to disembark around 7:15 and headed to the ATM at the port to get some local currency. We took the 275 Kuna (50 Euro) 1-hour panoramic cab tour. The prices are set by the local government so all cabs charge the same. The tour was great and included wonderful views of the walls and a brief history of Croatia. Our driver dropped us at the Pile Gate. I had bought tickets to walk the walls online to avoid the lines. Walking the walls is a great experience, but it was hot and bottled water along the walls was expensive. It took us about 90 minutes to complete the whole walk. We spent some time exploring a farmers market and around 11 decided to walk back to the port. The walk was easy and less than 3 miles. I heard from other passengers that the shuttle buses were very slow and traffic to and from the port was very heavy. There were 3 cruise ships in port when we were there. Read Less

We choose this piticular cruise at the last minute due to our original cruise the Oasis of the Seas had got cancelled due to major damage. Thank God for Ashley Bennington @ ashley@jcotravel.com. She was able to within minutes get us on the Star less than one week prior to sailing. Honestly was a little worried about this ship due to the last minutes booking, size and activity. What an amazing suprise. Beautiful ship, decent activities, excellent ports of call and fantastic state room. A couple of what I will call disappointments. 1 we did not get one animal towels (I know we are adults with older kids) it's just a cruise thing we where looking forward to. 2. At the Versailles restaurant they had a dress code. Button shirt, slacks, and no flip flops. My wife sadly did not bring any dress shoes. They however never said a word to us (wore flip flops, and dressy shorts). Three times we saw three different groups of African Americans being told to leave because of flip flops. Actually that had on the dressest ones I have ever seen. This was not ok to us one bit.. May have just been coincidence, but it was a weird feeling and Def not fair. 3. There Def is room for a Howl at the Moon dualing piano lounge (Club Bliss) also could have booked an couple adult comedian. Other than that... Awesome cruise, great food and the kids made yet again friends for life. Read Less

I wanted to celebrate my birthday In a special way and this cruise was perfect. I enjoyed every moment. The ship was smaller than I normally cruise on ,but it was easier to find everything. The people were terrific and the service was great. The cabin was an ocean view cabin which was fine for the time we spent in it(only to sleep) we were partying most of the time. For my birthday we went to one of the Specialty restaurants (Teppanyaki) and it was really enjoyable and the food was fantastic.Another great Specialty restaurant was Modern. The entertainment and shows were great. Really enjoyed the 4:40 Duo and the Groove Addiction Band. I must say that the embarkation and disembarkation went really smoothly, it was faster than I expected, maybe it was the time we arrived (12:30-1:00) but was no problem. We all had a wonderful time in each port with perfect weather. I would go on another cruise with Norwegian. Read Less

First let me say we had an AMAZING 14 day cruise through the Panama Canal. Everyone from the baggage handlers to the Captain were warm, inviting and went over and above to ensure our bucket-list cruise was all we imagined it would be and more. NCL corporate on the other hand were HORRIBLE and need additional training and a means to correct actions, which are truly of their making, which affect their employees. I planned for close to a year to ensure my near 80 year old father’s bucket-list cruise through the Panama Canal was everything and more he could have imagined- and it was. I watched countless hours of YT videos on what to pack, what to expect and any precautions which would help us avoid any hiccups during our trip. I called and emailed our personal cruise consultant and Concierge MANY times before our cruise to ask questions and request any items due to my father’s health and to confirm all was done and nothing would missed off or forgotten to avoid any troubles later. I even went to far as to create a daily guide to help us remember what day it was and what the daily activities were to help us commeroate our time together and scoured over our paperwork before and to comply with all NCL required per our cruise documents to ensure our check-in process and our cruise went as smoothly as possible. My parents even paid for the extra travel insurance just to make sure if anything happened prior to or during our trip medically, we would have some peace of mind knowing we had options available to us for added peace of mind. For our cruise we opted for the prepaid gratuities so we made certain EVERYONE who was due money was paid their dues as they are the hardest working people on the seas. You see them in the sunrise breakfasts and the midnight buffets- they must be vampires cause they never seem to sleep from the baggage handlers and dishwashers to the Captain. Lol. My husband and I traveled with my soon to be 80 year old parents to help with baggage and flew literally across the country from Fort Lauderdale to Los Angels in one day. Every step along with way we were there to help with bags from the vehicle to the airport, gate to gate, airport to hotel and hotel to ship. If we were not there this trip of a lifetime would not have been possible. Everyone we met along the way was awesome- a little hectic but what vacations don’t have great stories to tell from memories made after right?? We purchased a two bedroom- two bath suite for our extended cruise and truly had a great vacation. Everyone from the wait staff who waited on us daily, Susi our Concierge and JonJon our butler were exemplary in helping make sure this was the time of our lives and we cannot say enough great things about them- KUDOS to them all. Our issue arose when representatives from each suite were called together to discuss how disembarkation would go and where to meet. It was at this meeting- during the last two sea days of our trip north of Cuba- that Susi let us know our butler was not covered under the gratuities paid which got an audible gasp in the room. Mind you, HOURS of research, emails & phone calls to NCL were made and videos were watched to avoid circumstances such as this from happening. During my research and even during their Shore Excurision presentation they mention at certain ports, “do NOT display obvious signs of wealth.” Which, to be honest, can apply to any street in any town in the US as well so no shade. Our issue is knowing we were told ALL our gratuities were prepaid under our cruise fare by NCL beforehand we all carried cash to tip our baggage handlers, tour guides, bus drivers and a little more if anyone went over and above and deserved a little more appreication than the standard allowed- not extra money which is truly rightly due those who were not covered as we were told by NCL ALL gratuities were already paid. We were absolutely aghast. We went to our room and quickly pooled all our remaining money we had left to give to him. We purposefully didn’t travel with a lot of extra cash as, who carries cash anymore let alone buckets full when everyone cautions you against doing so and being told they were already paid? When we got into the port of Miami, (Saturday) I emailed our personal cruise consultant immediately about what had happened. I was able to speak with her on Monday as she was out of the country as well and she assured me that as we elected to prepay our gratuities our butler, along with everyone else, was covered but to contact Guest Services and let her know of what they said. I just got off the phone with GS, Anthony (i), I believe was his name and he said Butlers were NOT covered by the gratuities we paid and there was nothing that could be done to rectify the matter and it stated in the seven pages of cruise documents he wasn’t covered. I didn’t have the cruise documents in front of me at the time but when I got home later that evening i went straight to them and in fact the butler was NOT mentioned in my cruise documents as I was told it was. This completely taints our entire wonderful vacation because we actually stiffed someone who absolutely positively deserved it the most and earned every last penny of the money during our cruise as we couldn’t be happier. We’re so upset and disappointed with NCL over this, we cannot even begin to properly express them. SHAME ON YOU NCL for doing this to us and well as to your employees. Shame. On. You. You have absolutely taken a wonderful trip of a lifetime and tainted it with a policy that even your own employees do not fully grasp and in turn cheating hard working employees out of hard their earned money without a means to rectify it?? SHAME ON YOU!! We have been looking for our butler on social media to figure out a means to wire them money via PayPal, Venmo etc they are truly due without success. We are just sick over this whole debacle and pray a solution can be found as this has caused us all unnecessary stress as a result. WONDERFUL cruise and staff - - HORRIBLE Corporate office policy!!! Chose this for an extended family cruise (3 suites) for our 50th anniversary. Panama Canal on our bucket list. The cabin was nice, cabin steward attentive, and the restaurants were OK but not something to write home about. Entertainment meh. We did enjoy the talks about the Canal. Customer service desk personnel were unacceptable and mostly just angered us by blaming ship problems on us (it was somehow our fault that the batteries in the cabin door locks failed twice). The Bistro restaurant was our first choice (we did 4 extra-cost dining experiences). The main dining rooms (Versailles and Aqua were OK, but the food was only OK. Strangely, the onion soup at the Bistro was excellent but really poor at both Versailles and Aqua). Tepanyaki restaurant gave a very good show; food was like Benihana. There's a big current focus on using hand sanitizers--understandable given norovirus outbreaks. There was one "washy washy" girl (as they called themselves) in the Garden Cafe who made the most of this--super friendly and entertaining. Kudos to Hannah. Promises that we would somehow be compensated for 2 days without toilets, 1 day without water, and having to lock our door fail twice proved to be empty promises, However, I did have a long talk with the head of hotel operations, and he seemed genuinely concerned about our experiences. By the way, it wasn't just our room that had major plumbing problems. The 12th deck bathroom immediately above our room overflowed into the hallway and many other cabins suffered without toilets for some days (including one of our daughters' cabins). The internet only worked sporadically and was basically down for most of 2 days in a row. The average age of passengers was noticeably older than previous cruises we've been on. Read Less

Before I even boarded the ship my information and onboard picture were changed with another passenger. I went to board the ship and had a womans picture show up on there computer. I had to stand in a long line to have it retaken. When I tryed to log into the wifi service I once again found myself in a long line to find out there was another person's birth date listed in my information once again. I took this cruise because my nephew was getting married onboard NCL took great care of there wedding! But this is not a cruise line for me. When you get on board they make the drinks way to strong and make up for it by under poring towards the end of the cruise. What is so hard to make a consistent drink? my room was 11110 and my cabin steward would come around 1pm and 8:30pm if he did come by the room. Only cabin steward I never tipped on a cruise because he never did anything. I left the room ten times cleaner then NCL can get it! If I was not with my family I would have flown home from the first port. The food was good but just in the buffet. My trips to the dinning rooms left me hungry and heading up to get something I could eat. They sent a review e-mail to me but never ask why I didn't like there cruise. This is a cruise line for younger people that haven't been on the better cruise lines! Read Less

This was our first time ever on a cruise. We got a great deal, so we ended up booking the family suite. It happened to come with a concierge and butler. We thought that was pretty cool, except the concierge was completely useless. He booked 3 reservations for us and made huge mistakes on all of them. The butler was pretty great, he came when we called him, but otherwise he never called or popped in to check on us. It was obvious the staff on these cruise ships are super overworked. We saw some employees in multiple restaurants spanning 13+ hours throughout the day. They get about 5 hours of sleep per night and see their families every 8 months. I am not sure how I felt about that. The suite we stayed in was nice, but there were some things that were not the luxury suite it was sold to be on the site. The phone was so incredibly filthy, most of the curtains were ripped off their holders (they use curtains to divide out the "rooms" within the cabin), and the carpet had stains that looked to be quite old. Definitely not what I was expecting after paying $6000. We were charged $10/phone for the internet service to be able to communicate with one another while on the cruise, but the NCL app is SO incredibly bad that we ended up hardly using it at all. We will cruise again, but not sure we will dish out the extra money - doesnt seem like it was worth it. Read Less
