We have cruised on Norwegian 2 other times. We love the packages that are included. We did the Cruise next program too. While most of the staff on this ship were fabulous, we did encounter more than we ever have before of staff that were not friendly and some that were down right rude. My husband and I like to enjoy the casino at night. Now we are realistic, we know we are eventually going to lose, but as long as we have fun and can play for awhile, we don't mind. Part of that experience is a fun staff of dealers. Well not on this ship. Except for a couple of dealers, the majority on this ship were terrible; they seemed bored or annoyed. No conversation, no playing around and one man was so rude my husband reported him. He ruined our last night. They really need to do some training with that group. While we were not super fans of the buffet, we loved the specialty restaurants. Le Bistro was perfection. Only flaw is the bowling alley is right over the restaurant. Dumb design. The staff gets an A+. Also kudos to the Spa staff and facilities. Loved it. Yes, it is pricey, but you expect it. Did NOT like getting up at the crack of dawn for excursions, but that can't be helped as most of the places to visit require a long bus ride to get there. Honestly, book them online - the prices are much better than on the ship. Would we go with Norwegian again, probably but not this ship. Several areas needed a new paint job. Again, loved our cabin but not the casino staff!!! Read Less

My wife and l tried to take in everything you had to offer: Comedy shows: Excellent!!! Dueling piano bar: Excellent!!! They did a fabulous job taking requests and miraculously pulled off 80% of them JP’s Magic show: Excellent!!! Sid Norman’s Pour House band: Excellent voices, dancing and chemistry amongst the band!!! Pool party (not my scene, but it looked just like the movies with a lot of smiles, laughs and drinks... oh, and a bouncing beachball) Since the crowded pool was not my scene l was glad that we signed up for the thermal spa package. Not crowded, plenty of lounge chairs and air conditioned (plenty of heat in the jacuzzi and sauna but the AC is really nice when you need it). And also saw Velvet (a great acrobatic show set to music featuring some very talented artists/ acrobats). And everything was spotlessly clean I expected the excursions to be my favorite parts, and even though I had a lot of fun with them, my best memories were on the boat (and that doesn’t even take into account our honeymoon-related activities, which also took place on the boat). Seems most people ate at the Garden Cafe buffet. I wonder if they realize that Moderno, Savor, Taste, O’Sheahan’s don’t charge extra for bfast, lunch or dinner. The food was great!!! Read Less

1st and last time we will be sailing on Norwegian. The Escape carries at least 1000 more passengers than it really should. The ship itself is beautiful and very clean. It took a day to figure out the layout after always sailing on Royal. We liked the entertaining, food and bar layout on decks 6, 7 and 8. The ship was packed!!! I hace sailed on similar sized Royal ships and never felt crowded. Not on the Escape...way too many people. Dinner at Taste and The Manhattan Room were nice but we felt rushed. The main course came while eating our appetizers each time. Food Republic, Moderno and Teppanyaki wer all really good. Definitly make reservations on-line or at any resturant as soon as you get on. The pool area was always very crowded. The pool itself is very poorly designed. It is 20x10 anf 6'8" deep, so unless you want to tread water, you better hope for a spot around the edge. The deck furniture is literaly on top of each other so much so that you can smell the breath of the person sitting next to you. The bar staff is WAY understaffed for a ship this large. 2 or 3 bartenders at the pool bar is not nearly enough. They are so overworked that it effects their attitude. Most are not friendly at all, agin, because their workload is too much. On Royal, if the bar is crowded, the bar officer jumps in to help. Not on the Escape. The smoking area is on the top bar area above the pool. Twice I saw cigarettes blow into the pool and you can often smell the smoke. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of its itinerary and the ship. We have sailed on it before and new the quality. We participated in onboard activities, like the not so newlywed game and found out we suck at it! Overall though loads of fun. Hubby ran into his college roommate sailing with his wife. Total coincidence. Specialty restaurants always good, especially tempanyaki. Servers are always awesome. Cruise director and assistant were hysterical. Bartenders friendly. Casino folks always ready to take my money. Housekeeping good, except had to ask for a good vacuum of carpet. Don’t think they do it enough. Overall, you’ll enjoy. Oh, watch out for those germy people who don’t cover their mouth when they cough and sneeze. We only used one tour company through Allah tours in St Petersburg for the one and a half day tour. Awesome job! Wore us out. And then off and on bus for next couple ports. Other ports just get off and go to city center, especially Visby. Limited cab service to the center, so get ready to walk about 2 km. Plenty coming back, but definitely worth seeing. Read Less

The reason we picked this cruise fame of Norwegian lines. They are little bit pricey I have been told but you get what you pay. I would say taking a cruise , especially all inclusive , is much more cheaper and entertaining than the regular hotel vacation. We spend more just for the hotel in Panama City Beach for same amount day. Plus drinks and food expense , including six hours each way drive. Since it is our first cruise trip we decided to enjoy what comes with it and didn’t take any excursions. Next time, the same trip can be embellished with excursions and become a totally different experience. The music volume was great, it was loud enough to energize you but also was at the point that doesn't irritate you after a while. Crew was well trained, friendly and very fast and organized. Here are the things that i think necessary to take with you: Medicine Small bottle sunscreen Two shorts Two underwear Flip flops Sunglasses A hat or a bandanna Body splash ( Not mandatory, sunscreen smells great anyway) Lady wipes ( This is my mandatory item but definitely your personal preference) Fanny pack ( Very useful, I would recommend highly) Backpack for travelling Travel toothbrush and toothpaste Fun book I would highly recommend this cruise line. I Cruised in Norwegian Breakaway. Went on for Western Caribbean for 7 days with my wife for honeymoon. Disembark and embarkation was so smooth. Norwegian Breakaway is huge cruise. Service people are helpful with full of smile all time. Food was awesome and had so many varieties for all time. Shore Excursion staffs are awesome and assisted me a lot. I felt excursion is bit expensive but once you book it, don't have to worry about anything else. Cruise is so big that will hold so many people which means there will be less place near the pool, so get to the pool soon and so that there will be a place for you. I choose Inside Stateroom, which was good for us since most of the time won't be in room. The staterooms are kept clean by the steward. Carry few nice formal dresses so that you can do some photo shoots, since they do good job in taking good pictures. On whole it was a very good experience. Read Less

Family of 5, we chose it for the destinations. The Kennedy center in Port Canaveral was very interesting and fun. Stirrup Cay was breathtaking. The buffet was great. Lots of choices. Market area pretty cool, lots of fun items. Even saw iguanas. Naussau also had a great beach which we walked to from the pier, sure if take a taxi or bus can find a quieter and secluded beach. Pretty city. Great morning taxi tour by charles and son zack. Free samples of rum cake, chocolate, teas and wine. Got what i wanted seeing the Queen's staircase. Beautiful pictures. Cruise staff was very kind and sweet. We dinned mostly buffet because of variety, everyone was happy and ate a lot. Dinned at the venetian and aqua few times also very good, service great. Overall great vacation. Only complaint I have is the size of the one main pool. For the size of ship and amount of guests its way too small. With 2 days of cruising it got quite crowded. Had to wait for later hour to be able to soak comfortably. Activities, games, shows all really fun. Lots to do and can also find a quiet spot to relax. I do recommend this ship and this itinerary. This was our first time to the Hawaiian islands and 3rd cruise overall. First time with Norwegian. The destination is amazing, all the islands have their own unique characteristics. You leave port in Oahu around 7:00 pm. You are able to board the ship early in the day, so bring a bathing suit and/or change of clothes to enjoy the ship until your cabin is ready. Our cabin was ready around 2:30, but the luggage was trailing a couple of hours,. Since the destination is so amazing, the ship (as compared to others) may not be as great as some would hope. We had no problems with the ship. Super clean. Always someone cleaning or painting somewhere, but not disruptive. A lot of sitting areas, restaurants, bars and shops. Our balcony cabin was doable for 2 people. Well maintained and very clean. Our steward Randy was very attentive and cleaned twice per day, Mini bar was helpful in that we used it to store drinks for the evening. (The mini bar contents are not included with any package). Security safe provided in Cabin. Hair dryer / shampoo / body wash provided. Dining was just average for us. Applebee's/ Denny's may be a good comparison. A few main restaurants and large/small buffets. Several "specialty" options for an extra charge. We did not try those. A lot of live entertainment on the pool deck and in the bars. Some shows each night, comedy / broadway type. We did not go to any. Clubs/activities for both teens and younger children.Video arcade at $1.65 per game. There is a Hawaiian liaison on board to give you some info each day which was helpful. Book early for your excursions, but consider doing it outside of the cruise. Better options on trip adviser that were not offered thru the cruise..less expensive as well. The guides are familiar with the cruise itinerary and will plan around the timing. Rental cars ARE NOT allowed to be overnight at the ports. We spent a lot of time going back and forth to various airports for rentals. Found out too late that Enterprise has an agreement with a hotel for overnight parking...$20 per night, but it would have saved a taxi/uber to the airport and a lot of time. Check with your rental company if you choose to rent a car. Bring a small collapsible cooler if able. You can bring food/snacks from the ship for your time off the ship. We spent A LOT of money on lunches and drinks at the different ports. Kauai - Back County Tubing adventure was something I wish we could have done. Found on trip adviser but fully booked 2 months in advance. Shaka Guide is a self guided tour app you can download for minimal price. Download it while you have wifi, it works offline via GPS locator. It was awesome and we used it for the "road to Hana" and Volcanoes National Park. Would highly recommend that! Passport for Pearl Harbor was great. We bought that online and did on our own, you really need a full day to see all the sights. It's tempting, but dont take any black sand or Lava rocks. Illegal and possibly bad luck......why chance it! Disembarking was a breeze. Off the ship and had our luggage by 8:15 am. You choose when you want to leave. Overall a great way to see the islands!!! Pride of America june 29, 2019 We booked the POA for our 35th wedding anniversary. We’re Avid cruisers, have been on NCL cruises many times and the POA three times before this. Once with our children, then again for our 20 and 25th. We always combine it with a stay on Oahu to make it a two week stay. We took a Lyft from our hotel to the Port, got in line, checked our bags then got in the long security line. Even though it was long it went fast and we were checked into the ship, received our key cards and walked on the ship, we were eating lunch in Skyline (one of the free restaurants and open for lunch) by 1230. Very easy process. You can also go to the buffet on boarding day but we were hot and tired and needed to sit down, it was perfect. This is an older smaller ship of NCL and needs refurbishing. There is a lot of wear and tear and rust showing everywhere, I would say the worst is in the public bathrooms. Many times over the week more than one stall in women's and men’s areas would be shut down. Sometimes it was easier to run to our cabin then to find an open public bathroom. We also noticed they weren’t kept up well. Sometimes no toilet paper or hand towels, water on the floor and paper everywhere. The first few days we only saw one worker ever in the public bathrooms. She seemed overworked. The main pool bath seemed never cleaned until the last day. We had a midship cabin on deck 10, it was the perfect location. Very easy to reach the buffet area for coffee in the morning, and get to all the activities by the pool. A short run downstairs to the fun and restaurants. The cabin itself seemed quite small, very tight space to walk bed, limited storage space for clothing. One small closet with some built in shelves. A few other drawers in the desk and next to the closet. For the two of us we felt limited in where to put our things for a week. The room supposedly held three with the fold out sofa, if we had three it would have been overcrowded and we would not have reached our balcony without climbing over the sofa bed. The balcony was small with two chairs, two foot stools and a small table. It was fine for us and we loved that it was covered so even in rain we didn’t get wet. We used it a lot in the morning for coffee and the evening to watch the ocean and stars. Quite relaxing. The bathroom was tinier still and even though we are not large people, the shower stall gave me anxiety as I couldn’t turn i it well (I’m 5’2”, 120lbs). I could barely move in there! There are body wash and shampoo/conditioner mix provided in shower and liquid hand soap in the sink area. I was happy to find a few small shelves behind one mirror as the space was so limited I wasn’t sure were my toiletries would go. It worked out fine with some juggling. There is a small fridge, a safe and a desk area that holds a fairly decent hairdryer. Lighting was well done and we had lights bedside for reading. There is a tiny flat screen tv, for us with weaker eyes, we couldn’t read the screen well. We didn’t really spend too much time watching tv. There are two main restaurants, skyline and liberty that are included in your cruise, Liberty is slightly fancier and has a more strict dress code, but we liked Skyline so never made it upstairs. We did eat in Cargneys (steak) once and enjoyed it, and ate twice (once for breakfast once for lunch) in Cadillac which is open 24 hours. It has great burgers!! We ordered coffee from room service two mornings and found out that the last morning they will deliver a continental breakfast if you put out your tag. That was quite convenient. We did the buffet most mornings for breakfast and really enjoyed the area outside with covered seating. It was very relaxing We enjoyed the freestyle cruising and liked that no one minded if we showed up for dinner or came early or later, it added to the relaxed feeling. We attended two shows, one was the second night and it was not tour Liking. The second was a group of singers that did an excellent job. They also performed by the pool one day and we enjoyed them both times. The main pool consists of two pools, one larger one and one smaller “sitting pool”. We spent a lot of our time there and even though there is an adult pool, it is right with the smoking area and at the end of the ship and did not have the entertainment we enjoyed at the main pool so we never went back to the adult area. We never felt overcrowded and usually could find seats nearby the pool. We always found loungers somewhere and were quite happy with both the bar service and the music. We also enjoyed the little cabanas on deck 12 that overlooked the ocean and had two loungers. Many times we’d go up there in the evening and star gaze and relax. Staff: we found the restaurant staff and the bar staff to be awesome. They were friendly, helpful and did not skimp on alcohol. We had the drink package and they were always happy to refill us, in fact the bar staff would remember us and ask if we wanted our usual drinks. We really enjoyed talking to them and got to know quite a few of them at the pool bar and the staff in Skyline. All of them quite efficient and personable. Our cabin steward was wonderful, he ran over to speak with us day 1, asked if we had any requests, then proceeded to keep our cabin clean and tidy without ever being in the way. He was very respectful and always smiled and said hello. We would turn our message to “make up cabin” when we left and it was clean when we returned. The one thing we noticed was even though the regular staff was fun and friendly, most of the officers wouldn’t even nod or say hello. We actually spoke to only two of them although we would see them in the halls and walking through the areas, they would avoid eye contact and look away which we found strange, the two we met actually would seek us out (one was the head of beverages) and one was the head of Skyline) and both of them would go out of their way to talk with us and chat for quite a while. I wish more officers would have done this as we enjoyed their stories and their conversations. A smile and nod go a long way to making you feel more comfortable. Our last day we were encouraged to go downstairs and collect what tag corresponded to what time we wanted to disembark, 9am was the latest. We had transfers directly to the airport and picked the 9am slot. There were two lines to disembark and even though they were quite long, it didn’t take more then 15 mins to disembark, we then grabbed our bags and walked to our waiting transfer. We were at the airport about half hour later. It was all very easy and civilized. To recap our cruise, we enjoyed ourselves, were able to relax and never felt crowded in any area. We would go back in POA in a minute and hope NCL takes the time to get it freshened up so we can enjoy our 40th on her!! Read Less

This was our first cruise and will definitely not be our last! Everything was fantastic! Every staff member thanked us for being there, was welcoming and treated us so well. We ate almost somewhere different every day and could not speak more highly of it, especially Carney’s, Q, and Teppanyaki. The ship was spotless, and our balcony room was spacious in comparison to the things I read prior to cruising on other ships. We saw Footloose, the game shows, Arvin, Marie Hawkins Band, The Beatles cover band, and thought they were all so talented. Our times in port were great as well too. We checked out a few breweries, the lumberjack show, and Ketchikan was my favorite, Skagway my husband’s. I think I went in with an easy going attitude that just was there to enjoy anything the ship had to offer, and it was even better than I expected. Biggest tip- go to Sugarcane Mojito Bar! We sampled ALL of them, and took a rum class where we learned to make 5 cocktails. It was a great week! Read Less

I chose this cruise as a birthday celebration. I have cruised several times before with 2 different cruise lines most often I cruise with carnival. I thought trying Norwegian would be an upgrade but it was the opposite. The first issue I had was a non functional AC in the room. I called maintenance around 10:30 pm and no one showed up by midnight so I called again. They showed up at 2:30 am and did not fix the issue so I had to msg there and sweat through the night. The next afternoon someone came again and made it slightly cooler but still not great. From there all of dining experiences were sub par with extremely long lines and 1.5 hours to get through any dining experience in the dining rooms including breakfast. The drinks and entertainment were great especially the comedian Mike Paramore but there were not as many options as I expected (only one loud but good production show and cramped games in the bliss lounge ). One of the most frustrating experiences was visiting the private island. The tender boats required to get to the island took forever due to long lines and the actual travel time. I decided to get an excursion(which is supposed to let you on the islands sooner but this was not true) to Jet Ski and was looking good forward to lunch on the island afterward. To my surprise they only served food for 2.5 hours on then Island and due to the time of the excursion and a delay getting on the island I had no choice but to return to the ship for lunch because all the food options closed at 2:00pm despite the fact that the last tender back was not until 4:30 . This situation left me with no way to enjoy the rest of the island due to the time for security and tendering on and off the ship. This was extremely disappointing and seemed like a public safety issue considering how alcohol was served nearly the entire time but food was only available for 2.5 of the 6 hours the island was open. I am not sure why they believe this is okay but to me and many people trying to scrounge for food this was unacceptable. My complaints about this once I got back on this ship fell on deaf ears and even the director of food on the ship could not explain the logic of the time frame. If all I wanted to do was be drunk on this cruise it would have been great but I was looking to eat great food enjoy a full day on a private island and relax. I will not be cruising with this ship every again and I doubt I will be willing to risk wasting my money on this cruise line again. Read Less

We decided on a quick weekend trip to celebrate my wife's birthday and still keep Grandma's babysitting commitment to a minimum. The only request I received from my better half was for it to be a "very relaxing" trip. The accommodations and the staff on the Norwegian Sun made this an easy request to fulfill. CABIN: We booked Stateroom 1203 which is an owners suite that I can honestly say is worth every penny. It offers a great flow with nice furnishings and finishes. The suite has a foyer with half bath. A living room with bar, TV, dining table, work desk and a large convertible sofa and an impressive view out over the front of the ship. A private bedroom with a TV and a nice reading chair next to a slider. The master bath offers a whirlpool tub with separate shower, dual sinks and a water closet. There is also enough storage between the closet and the built ins to comfortably take a week long cruise with a family of four. I like to keep the AC cold, so my wife really enjoyed the super comfy robes. The most impressive part of the cabin is the deck (this is not just a balcony). Three sliding glass doors open up to your private oasis that is large enough for two loungers with side tables, a table for four, and a generous sized Jacuzzi. And the views are breathtaking! It does get a bit windy when fully underway but enjoy the breeze and just use a heavier cup for your cocktail. SERVICE: With the suite we received top notch service from a Concierge (Gian), Butler (Rodwin) and Steward (Manuel). I thought going into the trip that this would be wasted on us, but I can honestly say each of these gentlemen made the trip truly special. Gian (Concierge) made sure our daily plans were aligned perfectly with everything we wanted to accomplish. He had us in prime seating for shows and we were treated like VIPs at all of the dining experiences. Rodwin (Butler) was constantly yet discretely making sure that all of our details where perfect in the suite and with any room service related requests. I never had a request take longer than 5 minutes to be fulfilled. I did not have those expectation levels but I appreciated the dedication to excellence. And finally Manuel (Steward) was always pleasant to chat with and kept the room in tip top shape. He also hooked us up with nightly towel animals even though that is not standard on this ship any longer. It's the little things right?! DINING: Day 1 Lunch - Cagney's: Excellent first impressions of our trip. We were escorted to the restaurant upon check in. The food was very good and the service top notch. Day 1 Dinner - Teppanyaki: Fun atmosphere with good food overall. The highlight was the chefs with the steak coming in a close second. Day 2 Breakfast - Great Outdoor Cafe: Buffet at the aft of the ship. Same offerings as inside but smaller lines and better views. Watch out for the gulls though! Day 2 Lunch - We stayed in one of the new Villas on Great Stirrup Cay and they had a private buffet that offered a great variety of delicious food. This new area is great and will only get better as they finish building it all out. All of the staff was very friendly and seemed to enjoy being stationed out there. Day 2 Dinner - Moderno: Food was good, but overall it just didn't have the same vibe as the other restaurants. The assistant waiters were a lot of fun and they saved the experience for us. Day 3 Breakfast - Breakfast in bed (brown chicken brown cow) Day 3 Lunch - On island in Nassau Day 3 Dinner - Cagney's: Wonderful! Best food item for myself was the cheese cake. Seriously I would take this exact vacation again for another bite. Day 4 Breakfast - Cagney's: Helluva way to end a trip. Food and service did not slip one bit even though I'm sure they were already thinking about the upcoming embarkation. SHORE EXCURSIONS: Mentioned above briefly, but not to the degree deserved, are the new VILLAS at GSC. The studios are open with the larger villas still in progress. The villas offer a great view of a private beach with ample loungers, umbrellas and floats at the ready. Each offers a private bathroom with shower, a TV, table and chairs, couch, and AIR CONDITIONING!!! They also have a nice sitting area on the front porch for relaxing with your beverage of choice under the ceiling fan. Did I mention the AC? The area comes with terrific bar service and an exclusive buffet. If you need to spend a little less on chotskies for the extended family at Nassau to make your budget work with this Villa experience, then Great Uncles be damned! This is the WOW factor you were hoping for when you saw private island on the website, trust me. EXTRAS: My wife had a swedish massage on the first day which really set the tone for the trip. She also took a yoga class that she enjoyed while I slept in! Read Less

My husband picked this trip for our 25th Wedding Anniversary, so this was suppose to be a trip of a lifetime. Before I tell the negative let me give you the positive. This was a two week trip the first week on land was done thru NCL with premiere travel we had a awesome guide and wonderful motor coach driver. The cruise on the other hand was still good but a let down after the first week. The Norwegian Jewel Staff was very rude but what do you expect when you pay your tips up front. The food was the same thing everyday and very bland. It was like eating in a hospital. I talked to several people that ate at the specialty restaurants and said it was horrible so we never wasted our money. Day 4 they started running out of beer. The ship was just okay nothing spectacular very hard to find things on board. the cabins where very worn. The activities on board for the most part where good. The comedian was awesome. Getting on and off the ship was very easy, but again the employees very rude. We chose a wifi package... don't because you'll never be able to get on, unless you would like to up grade for more money. Read Less

We were really excited to take this trip and were partially disappointed with our overall experience. The service by the staff was exceptional. We did opt for one of the Penthouse suites and were treated very well. However there were a few things that really disappointed us. To start with the food was not good at all. We have cruised on other lines such as Royal Caribbean and had a phenomenal restaurant experience. But the food on this ship was less than average. We couldn’t wait to get off the ship at the ports so we could eat some good food. Please keep in mind that I’m not that picky when it comes to food. In fact we were excited to eat at Burger King in the airport on our way back. So if your going on a cruise to experience great food...look elsewhere. The second thing that was mildly disappointing was there isn’t that much to do on this ship when you think of what cruise ships offer today. The theater shows were very well done and we enjoyed them very much. Also the shore excursion staff was great and we enjoyed the tours they provided but you don’t get that much time in ports compared to other trips we have taken. We had somewhere between 5-7 hours and other cruises provided a longer shore excursion experience. Probably the thing that was most irritating was the additional charge that we were surprised by at the end of our trip. We had prepaid for all of our charges and then we also paid both our butler and cleaning person a generous tip. But NCL also charged us $18 per person per day to provide tips to all of their crew that typically don’t get tips for their service. I don’t know why NCL is supplementing their payroll by charging passengers an additional $250,000-300,000 per cruise but that was ridiculous for a total crew count of 1,100 members. We have never been charged this fee on other cruise lines when you prepay your tips already. After spending over $8,000 for two people, we felt that the experience should have been better. Sorry to say but it’s back to Royal Caribbean or some other line for us. NCL is off the list. Read Less

We have been on other cruise lines, but prefer this one the best because we don't like kids (on vacation) and we love food. We can do whatever we want, whenever we want. We tend to be kind of anti-social so for us to NOT to be forced to have to sit with strangers and make fake small talk is a plus. We also like to take naps and do things on a whim, so the fact that we can go and eat wherever we want or change reservations or just show up... makes all the difference. The food in the various restaurants are definitely a draw, as I've been on all major cruise lines before, and they have the best quality food that is available around my schedule. We got the drink package and the food package (it's our go-to choices when they have the freestyle offers) and were very happy with both and worth the cost for taxes and tips. We love the options of the specialty restaurants because every night feels like date night, and even though the food in the regular places is really good, these feel just a little bit more special. We are a bit cheap when it comes to drinking, so the drink package makes us feel like we are splurging. The variety of bars and the different drinks were fun to try, again without having to feel like we were spending a lot of money or having to feel guilty for paying money for a drink we didn't like. I was a little upset with the small amounts of food in the appetizer section of one the pay restaurants. At the french place, I got three small scallops on a plate... which were more of an amuse bouche more than an appetizer and almost looked comical because it was just so small and sad looking, even though it was delicious. Although, in the end, there was more than enough food to satiate any appetite, it still felt like I was getting a tiny amount when I (technically) paid more for it. Plus, the choice of only two appetizers feels limited (with the meal plan you can choose two apps, a main, and a dessert). Again, its more than enough food, but I like options and sometimes get overwhelmed. I would have been perfectly happy with 3 scallops if I could have tried other things (like the soups are amazing and worth every penny at the French restaurant but...so are the other apps). The only other upsetting 'food' thing is that it's a Pepsi ship (bleh!) and the coffee is never consistent. Technically not a big deal, other ships that feature coke products and better coffee are becoming more alluring. Although there are a lot of options for excursions, we aren't really excursion people. We get off the boat, walk around, and get back on and are happy with that. The options they have are just the same ones they always have. They don't really have options for people who aren't really into active activities. We had a 50 dollar credit each port but never really found something we liked to use it on (why am I paying to go to a resort to eat and drink when I can stay on the boat for 'free'? There needs to be something more than just sitting on a beach to get me to pay an extra 100$ per person) We did get a clamshell on the beach at their beautiful private island and that was pretty nice (simple, but nice to have on such a hot and sunny day). Their private island is really beafutiful with a small zoo, beautiful beach and pool area, and shops and a few places to eat (although you'll have to pay for food/drinks). I'm not normally a complainer, but my biggest complaint about this cruise was the up-selling of Cruise Next. One of the main reasons we choose NCL over any other cruises is because you feel like you have paid for your cruise that you get to enjoy and not feel bad for not being able to afford everything else. The last (and final) time we went on a Carnival cruise, we were inundated with nonstop up selling from pictures and drinks and shots and all these other things while we were having dinner or trying to walk around. We have never received that before on NCL until this trip. We were at the French restaurant and while we were eating, one of the NCL Cruise Next people stopped to talk to us. We were in the middle of eating so it was really awkward, even though she appeared to be nice, It was still interrupting our meal just tell us to "don't forget to buy a cruise next thing because we have a special promotion (they didn't, they just allow you to buy more which isn't really special). Needless to say, by the time she was done, our food was not the same temperature as when we started. We had technically paid to eat at this restaurant and were still receiving an ad. I felt like it was tacky and very poor taste and sat with me for the rest of the trip because I felt like NCL was better than this. To her credit though, she did notate it was our anniversary and sent us a cake and strawberries to our room which was nice, but still... the experience did leave a bad taste in our mouths, especially since this was one of the main reasons we choose NCL - we get to enjoy the trip we paid for without feeling like we are missing out on upgrades or upsales. On other cruise lines, every time I sat down to eat I was being forced to look at choices I can have if only I pay 20$ more (like steak and lobster used to be free...whats up with that?!) or have to pose for a picture I don't want because I can take my own with my phone. NCL never used to have these (Don't think I didn't notice the 5$ up-charge for the shrimp cocktail at the steak restaurant... so tacky!) My only other complaint was how long disembarkation took. We lucked out and went the 'wrong' way and shaved half the time because people let us in, but even though we took our own luggage, we still had to wait over an hour in line. (If we went the 'right' way we would have been there for almost 2 hours easily). This is definitely something they need to work on - but it might not be their fault as we had to do a picture verification for customs. Still, when the dream is over and the vacation has come to an end, the very last thing you want to do is wait in line (with very little air condition) just to leave. Do yourself a favor and prepay for gratuities. It becomes such a pain to see it on your daily bill and try to figure out onboard credit that you can use vs ones you can't. (speaking of which, the onboard credit - refundable vs. nonrefundable is confusing and sometimes they don't even know how it works!). Most of the people working on the ship genuinely do a great job of service and many go above and beyond to make you feel special. We had a few magical moments when someone went above and beyond. Even if its a little embellishment in my cocktail or bringing me an extra taste of something on the side because I couldn't decide, its more than they have to do. Entertainment was pretty poor - we went to the rock and roll broadway show (we love broadway shows and other entertainment shows) and left about 10 minutes in. It was bad. So, so bad. What happened to the good headliner shows like Blue Man Group and Legally Blonde? Burn the floor was alright. They need to make the big shows more appealing to all audiences across the board. The smaller things like trivia and stuff are cute because they have really good people leading the entertainment that are funny and personable. NCL does a great job of personnel. Always pleasant. With this being said, I will most likely stick with NCL in the future. We had an amazing trip despite the few things that happened. I recently went on a Royal Carribean. The Starbucks coffee and the Coke machines almost make me want to switch over, but not quite... Read Less

I picked Norwegian because it had the best ratings of all of the cruise lines. It was my first cruise and was totally blown away by all of the love from the time we stepped foot on the ship to when we got back to Miami . The bar tenders knew our names and the cleanliness is beyond spectacular. My boyfriend and I did a few excursions. I recommend parasailing in Honduras, snorkeling in Costa Maya and renting scooters in Cozumel. Go and listen to Switch the band is amazing! The comedy shows are always fun too. We had a cabin with a balcony and will always cruise that way. Visit the Irish bar it’s open 24 hours for food and alcohol. I can’t wait to book another one with him and all of our kids and our mothers so we can still have fun. Our kids range from 20 boy, two 18 girls and 12 boy so there is a ton of stuff they can do but need the grandmothers to keep the youngest entertained. Definitely a great time ! Read Less

Loved the experience! Would most definitely do another cruise! It was very relaxing, the room size was great! The food at the buffet was good but felt bloated every time I ate. The Shanghai Bar was delicious Asian food! The only con, the pool is way to small for all those adults there, and was always crowded, I actually did not go swimming on the ships pool because of that. I loved Harvest Caye Honduras! Beautiful Island! Belize was beautiful as well! Costa Maya, not too thrilled about it, I really wanted to take a trip to Bacalar, however that didn’t happen because of the time...we ended up at a water park Mayan Lost Kingdom, which was nice! Cozumel was nice as well! My favorite was Honduras!!! The whole experience was amazing and just had a blast! The staff are all friendly! I now look forward to my next cruise in the Southern/ Eastern Caribbean! I can’t wait! Read Less

A wonderful opportunity to engage with other cultures at each Port of Call. This cruise will leave you wanting another. So much to do on board (entertainment) and on shore (excursions). The Cruise Director keeps the pace with a lot of interesting games, parties for everyone, every age. The stores have incredible sales! Bring some shopping money. They have different levels of Splash Academy for small kids and teens. The restaurants are so incredible! Oh my! Such a variety, from sushi to Italian to steak. On the Breakaway, the Mandara Spa has something for everybody. Awesome experience! Service is always with a smile, the staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. The common areas are always clean. The staterooms are spacious. This boat is so huge, you forget you are cruising on the sea. No matter what your interests, they have fun already planned for you. The restaurants had some of the worst food I have ever had and the service was terribly slow. It seemed like they bought the cheapest buffet food online and then tried to feed it to us! Half the buffet was closed almost all of the time and half of the golf course was closed off when we got there! The remote in our room only worked about .3% of the time. I finally was able to rent a movie on the tv and then the TV glitched and deleted it! It was $10.00 for the movie! The woman at the Atrium bar was very rude and made consistently rude comments to us so we complained to customer service and they were unable to assist us. Everything from the pool tables to the regular tables looked run down and old. We turned on the light to have our room made up and towels exchanged and the cleaning woman came in turned off the light and closed the door! She did not clean the room, exchange the towels or even come back! The room service was a joke and took forever to get there. They forgot a part of the same order 3 times and brought it town 2 hours later. We had to keep calling to follow up. The entertainment was lacking and the movies were showed in the Atrium which is located in the center of the ship so you could not hear anything! We were just happy to get off the forsaken nightmare that was that ship. I have cruised with Princess, Royal Carribean and Celebrity and have never had a bad experience on their ships. Save your money and go with a different company or you will have a bad time. Read Less

My wife and I were looking for something special to celebrate our 30th Anniversary. Talking with family and friends about what and where to go everyone said they or someone they knew had been to Bermuda and nothing bad was ever said. So we had a place now how to get there. Our older daughter had been there last year flying in and staying a week but we were looking for something a little more relaxing. Since we have cruised before we decide to look at that and we found Norwegian fit our needs best. We booked a year in advance and had to change sailing dates due to work conflicts which was not an issue with the help of our Norwegian cruise advisor. Sailing day arrives and what excitement. Since we didn’t have to fly to NYC we used that savings to upgrade to a suite and it was worth it. Check in went smoothly and we were onboard being served lunch while the cabins were being completed. Finally got to our suite dropped off our carry on luggage then off to explore and grab a drink. The one thing that stuck with us was how polite and considerate the staff was and very helpful, you had a question you got an answer with a smile sometimes they would take us to where we wanted to go. Food need I say more, awesome! Shows were entertaining. We do want to give special props to Alvin our cruise director and his staff. They made every day and night exciting with their entertainment. We were able to have dinner with the senior officers one night which was very nice. The only down side to the cruise was getting a lounge chair at the pool. Only two days we were able to. And if you think you can get out early to put down a towel to save the chair for later we’ll the staff monitors use if unoccupied for an hour they remove the belongings. You’ ll understand when you’re trying to find a seat why they need to be vigilant about this. Bermuda itself was excellent. We booked our excursions thru the ship which is a wise move. If you have a problem you have someone to help but we didn’t have any problems just peace of mind. So if you want something special book the cruise to Bermuda on Norwegian. BTW next year 2020 they bring their newest ship to sail Bermuda. Read Less

We had a roomy balcony room, starboard side. Fast and easy to get on and off. FOOD: Cagney's was the highlight, the only specialty restaurant I would do again. We saved Ocean Blue, the seafood restaurant for after our first Alaskan stop, thinking they would stock with Alaskan salmon. Wrong. Only farmed, Atlantic...a disappointment. Food just ok. La Cucina, worst veal marsala ever. Only one small mushroom slice on generous serving of veal, ruined by regular, opaque beef gravy. We enjoyed Taste the most outside of Cagney. Buffet had yummy Indian food. Loved the crepes, but wish I could have had savory rather than only dessert. Despite this, we still ate. A lot. So it must have been better than ok =) Up 8 lbs at the end of the trip. Best bar was A-List, which has a different bar menu from the rest. The Napa Valley VT was refreshing and a must figure out how to do when we get home. Pina coladas are not on the menu but can be ordered if you need to get your tropical fruity drink on. Beverage service better at the beginning of cruise than at end, but there was never a long walk to a bar if noone came to refill. Bottled water is oddly not part of the bev service and complementary bottles are not provided daily for the room. You can get another package for that. Wish we had. SHIP EVENTS: Atrium game shows were fun! But crowded and hard to find a seat and if no seat, to see. Elements and magic shows were great. Comics funny and tailored to the trip. Audio/video talks about Alaska, wildlife etc were impossible. They should have been in the theater where people could hear and see as everyone talked over them so you couldn't hear in the observation deck and couldn't see in the Atrium. So know before you go as you won't be able to pick up any info on the cruise. They try to sell you on nutritional supplements (we signed up for the $149 couples body scan which also had a mandatory 20% service charge on top!) and walked away from the $900 per person 6 month plan after researching their product and website (tough to get the info from the personal trainer to research...for a reason!). Loved the wine cellar events, both the Riedel glass tasting and the wine and cheese pairing. Elena is a delight and a very good som. Enjoyed glacier viewing of Dawes Glacier. Captain moved boat so front, starboard and port...and aft! could all view for long periods of time. PORTS: Ketchikan was awesome. Plenty of time to tour, shop, with the best prices we saw. We had an amazing tour booked via Viator. Juneau: Speed dating only...Barely enough time to get to Mendenhall glacier, see the short movie in the visitor center and rush back. We used the $45/pp white bus shuttle and tour bought after arrival. No time to shop. Grabbed a salmon burger to go as time was too short to stay and eat it before getting back to the ship. Icy Strait Point: Tourist trap. Glad we shopped in Ketchikan. This is a good place to do nature tours or fishing. We separately arranged for a bear search and saw a HUGE brown bear. But tour groups are not friendly with each other, and the Icy Point folks aren't friendly with non Icy Point guides...kinda made it awkward for us. Got the impression guests are to be separated from their money rather than have a good experience. Even the comic joked what a horrible stop Hoonah was. We still loved seeing the big bear, but it was after 2.5 hour of driving around looking for it. Would have preferred to have gone to Skagway. Victoria: walkable to Empress Hotel and we splurged on a tea for two, which we reserved on Open Table when we booked the trip. Memorable and worth saving up for. SEATTLE: First and last - great location, near Pike's market where we did our final fish shopping which they packed up for our airplane back. Yum! Read Less

Our travel agent recommended this cruise for our 25th wedding anniversary. We have gone on 7 cruises before but this was our first on a ship this size. We didn't know what to expect but after reading several reviews beforehand, was worried that we made a bad choice. Not so! Everything was great and better than we were expecting. The only 2 things that were a little off, but certainly were not worth a bad review for were the Historic Gold Mine and panning for Gold tour in Juneau and the chaos at the Victoria Excursion area. Were there a lot of people? Yes but that was expected, it's quite clear the ship size right from the start. The elevators really were only super crowded after shows. We are in good shape and just took the stairs as much as possible anyway. The buffet was really busy but there was always seating, you maybe had to search a little but we always found seating. There was always plenty outside and there are heaters if you think you'd be too chilly. We ate at 4 specialty dining, Ocean Blue (our favorite. ) La Cuchina, Q and Teppanyaki. The main dining rooms were good too. Our cabin was great, lots of storage, more outlets than expected and constantly looked after. Our steward was in about 3 times a day. We never saw him, which I consider great thing but he always took care of things plus always made sure we had extra coffee when he realized we were drinking it. We really enjoyed the entertainment. Footloose and Elements were very good (make sure to reserve before you leave home) . The comedy shows were okay, not our favorite but were super crowded so it may have just not been our taste in comedy. I heard you can reserve those on the touch screens around the boat. We spent most evenings in the District. Jim the piano guy was very funny. And we saw him around the ship and he remembered us and actually spoke to us. Contrary to what we read about service before we went, we had very good service. In the main dining room we were always asked about any dietary restrictions and if we had show reservations, but service was never slow for us. We went on the fishing and wilderness dining in Ketchikan. We really enjoyed it. Saw Eagles. Our guide was making certain that everyone was catching fish or at least getting bites., The excursion mentioned above, Gold Mine and panning for gold...well there was no mine. You basically got on a bus, the guide spoke a little about the area and then took us to the creek and we "panned for gold". The pans were already premade up for us. Definately not worth the money. We were hoping for a little more history. Hoonah....Boring and way too long. I enjoyed my balcony that day after we were in town for a couple hours and had had enough. Victoria was nice, a bit long. There was a lot of confusion for our excursion because our bus was not there and they told us to go somewhere to wait but then never came to tell us and a few other groups when it arrived and where to go. Of course the Gardens are beautiful and we enjoyed the castle. I would recommend doing these on your own because the excursion only allowed you about an hour at the Garden and 30min at the castle. It was mostly driving time. I would say the highlight for me was the Holkham Bay Glaciers. Absolutely stunning. Even saw a few whale along the way. All in all we had an exceptional time. Of course the weather was close to perfect every day. Will we be back on NCL, for sure 2 more cruises as we booked 2 deposits while onboard for the price of one! Read Less

We went with 4 other adult family members for our 30th anniversary. We had a great time! Cabins were good, food was good and plentiful, we all gained about 5 pounds each! We liked Magenta so much, we ate there our last 4 nights! They treated us very special for our anniversary. The maitre'd Deron and hostess Rhea were awesome. Cruise director Ferdie and his staff were great! We saw them everywhere. We were definitely entertained! Cruise Critic tips used: 2 cheap battery operated candles to light the room, used Downy wrinkle spray that we put on and smoothed out on our hanging clothes when we unpacked, big magnetic clips to hold hats/head scarves, different colored pens to choose what each of the "decision makers" used on one Daily Freestyle itinerary each day so we could see what things we wanted to do together, and what time to eat meals, where family might be. Each family can take a picture of it. But we did do some things on our own, including reading a book and crosstitch brought from home. Also, I brought sealed tea bags and water flavor powder packets, an empty reusable water bottle and a travel mug and every night we went to the buffet beverage station and filled up with what we wanted and brought back snacks. We also filled up the water bottles with water before going ashore. You have to finish the water before you get back on board. We brought 2 kitchen garbage bags for our dirty clothes. We did the laundry in a bag special, which was a pretty good deal but we didn't get it back until 2 and a half days later, our last night on board. If you go to the pool by yourself make sure you can put your key card in a waterproof pouch you can carry. I wanted to go down the slide but didn't have anyone to hold my card, I was willing to risk my towel and cheap shower shoes near a pool, but not my key card. It's always windy on sea days and at may be in Bermuda, if you have crazy hair, make sure you have a hat with a strap (you can buy good inexpensive hat straps on Amazon) or a head scarf. Hats, of course, were also great for the bright sunshine. Wear them while getting on board. You can call people on your room phone, you just need their room number, you can also leave messages. There are also many house phones in the public areas of the ship and at guest services. Much easier than running to their room and better to leave messages. The doors to the cabins have a louvered design, which was impossible to put a big magnetic message board onto, a smaller one could go on the side or the top but it could only be about 4"" wide or length if you put it at the top, the louvered design was in the middle. We ended up using ours to communicate with our room steward on the bathroom door. If you have asthma or breathing problems and can't take the seasick pills, buy the wrist bands before the cruise and bring a ginger product as the wrist bands sold out quickly on the sea day, which I guess, is often rocky. There were no ginger items for sale in the gift shops, but they did have green apples on the buffet. Bermuda was nice, on our second and full day at Bermuda, we took the free NCL ferry to St. George, a nice hour long ride, we got to see a lot of the Bermuda shoreline. At St. George, we watched a "public dunking" and ate at the White Horse Pub. We took a 2 hour public bus back to the Royal Naval Dockyard and got to see alot of Bermuda and its people for $4.50 each! The first and last day we spent near the ship on the Royal Naval Dockyard. There is quite a bit to do there and there's a free "trolley" that will take you around the dockyard. My goals for a future trip would be to have afternoon tea somewhere nice and to walk the Bermuda Railway Trail in the safe off-road trails and fancy walkways closer to (I believe a few miles from) St. George. We did get to see it from the public bus and probably could have gotten off, but we would have had to find out first how to get a ride back. We did have to wait in a line that looped around quite a bit for the 8-9am carry-off only luggage people at disembarkment. It wasn’t terrible but we did have to be extra patient. I think it took us about an hour. Maybe go at the end? Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed this midsized ship and would be happy to go again! Read Less

This was our first cruise, my husband and I. It was well deserved by us both and I’m happy to say it really delivered in almost every single way. We chose the Mediterranean Sea and the countries and islands therein as our first adventure. You will love Norwegian lines. The ship is immaculate with great attention to hygiene and public health which I appreciate greatly. Our stateroom was spacious, comfortable and a wonderful private place to spend time together. We were well attended by our cabin steward who was efficient and a gentleman. Food is largely great. Free style dining gives you choices and freedom of time. Our specialty dining choices were mostly excellent with high praise for The Bistro and Bliss and high marks for the Brazilian restaurant as well. The drink package was a great choice for both of us as well and believe me we indulged fully. Entertainment on board was varied and really fun. We had so much fun.Of course the shore excursions were the thing for me and Norwegian offers so many choices. Do chose wisely though because they will wear you out! Staff is Always pleasant, helpful and respectful. I have to nitpick in order to find any negatives. I can offer only two: the coffee and the internet reception. Fortunately there is a Starbucks on board and as for the internet it will be waiting for you at journeys end. I have wonderful memories. Read Less

Cruise was a normal Norwegain experience, which I think it pretty good! Embarkation was a little unorganized. With the new terminal under construction, we were in terminal G and the signage on which line to get in was poor to non-existent. There were Norwegian staff to point you in the right direction but it was still confusing. The check in counter is a circle with lines all around it. I think they could do a much better job with signage here. But once we got to an agent check in was fast and efficient. We spend a lot of our cruise in SpiceH2O and was shocked at the state of the waterfall feature! We have been on Breakaway in the past, and it has been a few years, the difference was drastic. We collected 4+ tiles off the bottom every day of the cruise, the rain shower and misters no longer worked and were all rusted. The waterfall was very slow in some spots and heavy in one particular spot. We are scheduled back on the Breakaway in Nov and hope this is refurbished by then. Increase in Cabin Service Charge was a popular topic aboard ship. In case you have not seen it, you will be charged $15 per person, per day! Even if you pre-pay gratuities you will not be able to pre-pay this amount. For my wife and I this was $210 on our on board charge that was not expected. For families with a couple small kids this could easily be 400-500 dollars they might not be expecting. I think this should just be built into the cost of the cruise fare and not tacked onto your room charges. Or at least allow it to be paid ahead of the cruise. But I suspect its an easy way for them to give you some free at sea $$ but then charge it right back to you. Disembarking is my least favorite part of Norwegian. It is just much less organized than other cruise lines. This time there was facial recognition used, which actually worked pretty well (was surprised) and helped. But then once off the ship there was no clear direction on which way to go and the Norwegian staff nearly got into a shouting match with the porters on which way we should go. And a large garage door was nearly closed on a elderly guest in the process. luckily someone pulled them out of the door way in time or they would have been knocked to the ground or worse by that door.
