Thought this was going to be a trip of a lifetime! Not so much. The cabin was awesome-as was the butler and steward. Well except for the thermostat. You had to literally reset this every couple of hours. The butler said it was controlled by corporate. Really? We spent a ton of money on this trip, I really wanted it to be special. Not so much. We got the same room service as everyone else. The same treats as everyone else. The food was blah. The Haven was ok for the first day. After that the same menu got really tiring. We ventured out to the other restaurants. Do NOT waste your time at La Cicina. The Taste, Savor and The Manhattan room all have the same menu. I do recommend Cagneys. It made us feel special. Tepenyakis was good except our chef was SICK! Sad the DR. Told him not to sing. He had a few coughing fits but was nice enough to turn his head. We tried the Local. Do NOT think you will get a grilled cheese sandwich here. It’s two pieces of toast with a piece of cold cheese in between. Sorry my husband offered to show the chef how to cook it, but they just kept saying sorry and sent us a bottle of wine. Room service was ok, but everything was cold. I really enjoyed the balcony and the views. Ship was rough the first night, my 27 year old daughter got seasick. Read Less

My wife and I wanted to join my niece and her husband in getting a taste of Europe and experiencing some places we never been to before. Having been on many NCL cruises before and having booked the Butler/Concierge level suite we were expecting a much better experience than what we had. Now don't get me wrong, when it came to the average crew member all I can offer is high praise. The butler Randy, Room Steward Wesley, Maria who tended bar, The Sommelier in Cagney's to name just a few) were spectacular. It is people like this who make we want to continue to cruise NCL as they each went above and beyond my expectations and made a great vacation for us. The room was average, decent size, but far smaller than the forward suite we had on our Alaskan Cruise. I would've rated this cruise higher except for the following reasons: 1. From around January of the year of the cruise, I was calling NCL weekly trying to get them to book me into their hotel in Barcelona. I kept getting told that they were not yet available and try in another week. This went on through September when suddenly I'm told there must've been a computer glitch because now they are completely booked up and I had to find my own place to stay. 2. Found my own place to stay, then one afternoon my wife says she happened to look at the NCL site and noticed that we are no longer at Barcelona, but it was changed to Terragona for embarkation and Monaco was removed as a port and replaced with Cannes. Again, this in itself is not a problem as I understand that port changes are something Cruise lines can and will do at times. The problem I have is with NCLs lack of communication, I should not have had to stumble across this but should have been contacted with this information and be available to answer questions I may have about the changes. 3. Transport to Terragona Spain was around $250 via cab, fortunately I accidentally discovered that NCL had a bus transport from the airport to Terragona, again, this is something that should have been communicated to everyone and not something found out on accident 4. My bus was to leave at 10:30, people were leaving before me and when I asked I was informed that my bus hadn't arrived yet. I didn't leave the airport until Noon that day and almost missed the bus because the staff were leaving and never told the group I was in that it was for our bus. I ran after one of them and she admitted that this was the bus we were to be on. 5. People were loading their own luggage and getting on the bus before they should've, there was insufficient luggage space and some people were removed from the bus because their luggage never got on. Add to this a couple hour bus ride to Terragona and waiting first in a huge traffic line to the port, followed by a huge people line to the port. And from what I could see, there were porters grabbing bags from people way at the end of the line and getting them ahead of everyone else. These were not disabled people. 6. Butler level rooms had always come with some perks such as priority dining, shore excursion reservations to name a few. We turned in our choices for excursions early evening the day of embarkation only to be informed that 4 of our choices were booked and we would be put on a waiting list. 7. Susanna, the concierge was a very gruff individual and was not always very friendly and even heard to tell a passenger, "don't you understand english", of all the crew members she was the only one I noticed to have an attitude. 8. Teppanyaki Chef we had almost speared a lady sitting with us with a two pronged fork while doing his routine and after dropping a couple of other things he lost the little bit of humor he had and just did his best to try and get through the rest of the serving. 9. Rome excursion, Hop on, Hop off we were informed to go once completely around by bus and then determine what we wanted to see to get an idea when to get back to the bus back to the port. Traffic was so bad, there was not an opportunity to go somewhere once we made one complete trip. We should've been informed to pick one thing we absolutely wanted to see, go there, walk to other places and if necessary take a cab back. Others commented on spending a large amount of money on some of the Rome excursions and being extremely disappointed. I know Rome is a big draw, but perhaps this could've been a port skipped to alleviate some of the congestion. 10. Gone are the days of lobster fest and all you can eat, for that matter Cagney's didn't even offer a lobster tail add on as they had in the past, now surf and turf is steak with a few shrimp. I mentioned the people who made the cruise special as well as the problems encountered. The Ports overall were nice, some like Kotor Montenegro, Argostoli, Santorini were breathtakingly beautiful. Athens was fantastic, Pompeii amazing. Problem was 1 sea day and different port each day. While I like having a different port each day, it isn't so great when you can't even spend at least 8-10 hours at the port, far too rushed. Better this was a 13 or 14 night cruise and have more time or remove one of the ports. I've done 6 cruises with NCL so far, 2 with Carnival, 1 with the Disney Big Red Boat, 1 with Princess and 1 with Regent. With the exception of Regent, NCL was definitely the best choice from the others. I have to say though, that I'm leaning toward Regent for my next cruise even though NCL also sails there. When we first started cruising with them, NCL was all about doing everything they could to exceed our expectations, now they just seem more interested in how many gimmicks they can come up with to get your money without giving them any overhead (just look at all the pushing for pull tabs and ship lottery tickets). NCL go back to treating your customers well, you push that into your employees, most of whom are amazing, get the rest on board by at the very least, improving your communication. Read Less

This was the first time my wife had been to Europe, so what better way to see lots of places and spend five days as see crossing the Atlantic than sail on the beautiful Norwegian Pearl. We have sailed the Pearl Five times and loved it every time. The ship is in great repair and the staff is always friendly. The food on every cruise we have made on the Pearl is always above par to say the least. Embarkation out of New York was a breeze and getting off the ship in Amsterdam was just as easy. No issues or time wasted on either end of the 2 week trip. Our stateroom was amazing and had its own private hot tub on the balcony along with a tub and seperate shower in the stateroom. The haven area was great, as it was on all our other trips on the Pearl. In two weeks we ate in every resturant at least once and some twice and they were all above other cruise lines dining experiences. The entertainment was equal to or above what we have had on other ships. The Ports were all really exciting and we had an excursion picked for every port so there was no disappointment there either. All our excursions were booked thru NCL and they were worth the money. Our only regret was we had to come back to the real world of work at the end of our cruise. We have come to feel like we know this ship better than most other ships we have been on and we have never been disappointed with anything on the Pearl. Service, food, entertainment, staterooms and public areas are always the best that can be expected of a cruise ship. Read Less

I went carnival prior to this cruise and was not happy with the services. Staff was not as friendly. There were to many people, you couldn’t getting in pool or hot tub. You had to wait in cafe lines for food due to so many people. Shows were all reserved so if you didn’t reserve things, good luck getting into anything. Several restaurants and shows that you had to pay for. Different server every night for dinner. We missed our port because water was to choppy. I was not pleased at all with this cruise line or the mega ship. We did pay to upgrade to a balcony and got a handicap balcony, which was big and very nice. We had friends and family in cabins and a regular balcony and the rooms are smaller than normal. There was no organization when getting off the ship. We didn’t travel with children this time but people who did said there was no room left in the kids club because there was so many children on the ship. Read Less

After 2 amazing days in Rome, my wife and I set out on the NCL Spirit for an 11 day adventure to Greece, Malta and more of Italy. We booked an aft facing penthouse suite with large balcony not only for the space, but the service that was promised. This ship does not offer a "Haven" experience, but suite guests get some similar perks. We have sailed in a Haven room before, so we can give an honest comparison. Without the Haven amenities on this ship there is not a dedicated dining room and lounge area to enjoy besides the steak house for breakfast and lunch. For dinner you are on your own unless you buy extra meals in the specialty dining rooms. This cruise came with 4 nights of specialty restaurants and we purchased 5 more. Before we sailed this seemed like a good idea but the only 2 good restaurants to eat in that could be reserved early was the French Bistro and Cagney's Steakhouse. The food and service was very good but grew tiresome by the end of 11 days. Other areas on the ship served decent food and didn't cost any more money. Suite guests also have the services of a concierge and a butler. This was the same service Haven guests have on other ships but there is no one specific place to go see either person. Instead you can call. Every time we called either person, they immediately answered and took care of us. In particular, our concierge Monica was simply outstanding! We had a problem with all of the amenities we had received with our cabin purchase and she took care of the issue within an hour of my call to her. We changed reservation times on more than 4 occasions and she always got us a table when we wanted it. She was the best part of our suite perks for sure. In short, we feel you cannot compare the Suite experience with the Haven experience. The exclusivity of the Haven is far above and the cost is definitely higher as well. Here are a few examples... At embarkation, we were given a #7 boarding card and had to ask if suite guests get priority. Of course our documents were checked properly and we received a #1 boarding pass. We then had to ask if there was a section in the waiting area for suite guests as well after we were told to sit anywhere and wait for # 1 to be called. This was all wrong because there is an area for Owners suite and Penthouse suite guests to check in. Unfortunately some of the staff were not aware and it did not make us feel like we were getting the exclusive treatment that was sold to us. The issues mentioned above that were fixed should never have been issues in the first place. When you book a cruise and get a price that includes all of the extras you check off, like Ultimate beverage package, Shore excursion credits, WiFi and Specialty restaurants, you should not have to go to anyone and wonder why you are being charged at the bar, dinner and WiFi. Seems like something got missed and if we didn't have a concierge to help, we would have spent a lot of time in line trying to fix it ourselves. The priority you get in each port of call is a nice perk for suite guests. If you have a booked excursion, you meet in Cagney's instead of the theater. You get off first and then wait for everyone else on your tour on the bus. Haven guests have it a little nicer in that they are escorted in a private elevator on and off the ship avoiding crowds of people. On this ship, the room we had was very nice. Some of the furniture is getting a bit dated but there was plenty of space and the bed was very comfortable. We were in cabin 9210 and a few evenings when the ship is at full throttle, the vibration and noise could be bothersome to some people. My wife and I did not mind too much. At normal cruising speed, it was fine. Current photos of this cabin are attached. We could not find any current information leading up to our cruise so we hope this helps. As far as the ports are concerned, this cruise was fantastic! Even though we did not call Santorini due to the lift not working on the island, we were able to visit some amazing places in just 11 days. Athens, Mykonos, Rhodes, Chania, Valleta, Messina, Naples and Livorno round trip from Rome. Simply amazing!! Read Less

I'm platinum on NCL and Carnival. I prefer not to fly so I generally cruise out of NY or Baltimore. I chose this cruise as it was my 50th bday and didn't want to do the usual 7 day cruise to the Bahamas. I took my entire family on this trip (8 of us) and 3 friends came as well. I upgraded to a 2 bedroom suite on the private Haven floor, room 14006. My family, friends, and I had an excellent time. The food was great. Service in the Grand Pacific dining room the 1st night didn't go so well, but we'll chuck it up to our large group and 1st cruise night issues. My only 2 complaints are: 1. They skipped the last port of St Thomas Mon 3/25/19 because they were expecting a storm on Wednesday and wanted to get ahead of it. Other passengers stated they were on this same cruise before and the same thing supposedly happened. 2. We were supposed to arrive back in NY at 10am. I had hired a limo service to pick us up at 11am. We arrived in NY at 6am and they MADE us get off the ship BY 10am (the time we were SUPPOSED to arrive) so my family and friends had to stand outside for over an hour in 40 degree cold waiting for our ride from PA because NCL didn't stick to their own itinerary & because the inside terminal was closed due to the ship not picking up any new passengers as the ship was repositioning to Boston. This was my 7th time on the NCL Gem. I enjoy this ship. I truly enjoy the Haven and have sailed in that type of room often. I did have an excellent 50th birthday, my family truly enjoyed themselves. However an otherwise perfect cruise was tainted by an inconvenient, avoidable, and frustrating debarkation. Read Less

Can't wait for my Alaskan cruise. It was so much to do on the ship you really didn't have to get off for any excursions but I chose to and it was absolutely amazing like I said earlier I would love for my family too join me next time. The staff was so knowledgeable courteous the ship's director Miss Jamie girl you rock. The gelato the prime rib going to the clubs at night and I don't even Club but I did while I was on your ship. And all my memorabilia that I brought that with me souvenirs for friends and family. I have cruised NCL in the past and have always had an amazing time. The newest ship in their fleet was beginning to sail so i wanted to try it out as soon as possible. The Bliss did not disappoint. I had high expectation for this ship and it exceeded all of them. From the food, the entertainment, and the activities, this ship is superior to anything i have ever sailed. The dining was delicious on every level. Specialty dinning was everything you would expect it to be. Casual dining had a variety of menus and all prepared to perfection. The daily buffet was exactly what was needed at the time. The entertainment was incredible. The Beatles tribute band was amazing and The Jersey Boys was Broadway quality. The activities were also great fun. The racetrack was intense and competitive. The laser tag was fun for all ages. My favorite activity was the Silent Disco. This was my first time experiencing something like this, and it was a hysterical. The staff and service on the ship was superior. The waitstaff and bartenders were fun a attentive. The cabin crew were dedicated and efficient. The Cruise Director (Silas Cook) is really the person who mad the cruise special. He is the best cruise director I've ever seen. It seemed like there were five of him because he was everywhere on that ship. From early morning to late evening he was there to lead the events and to make sure that everyone had a great time. His energy was infectious. Read Less

I wanted to sail on one of the new big ships and the Escape fit this bill. With outside dining and beautifully designed rooms it was wonderful. The food is a big improvement over some of the smaller ships. This trip went to Bermuda and we were there for parts of three days. So it was a more restful itinerary than others where you are in a different port every day. Bermuda was beautiful with pink sand beaches and lovely people. No hustle no hassle compared to some Caribbean Islands. You can rent scooters and travel the island. St Georges is a UNESCO site and is a charming seaside village that you can walk around and see forts and visit lovely beaches. The weather rained a little but cleared up most of the time. I would visit Bermuda again and spend more time. Hats off to NCL for a great ship and a wonderful itinerary. Read Less

This was our first time sailing with Norwegian. I did have some concerns leading up to the sailing after having read some of the reviews, but I had nothing to worry about. Embarkation and Disembarkation were easy. Consider doing the self-assist disembarakation if you can manage it. Self-assist is the first group off the ship. We were off the ship and cleared immigration in minutes. We had a balcony stateroom on the starboard side. Our steward Nelson was excellent. The room was clean, quiet, spacious with lots of storage. There were two minor issues with the room, but they were dealt with promptly by Housekeeping and Guest Services. As part of our booking, we had two free promos: Ultimate Beverage Package and 3 specialty dining options. My boyfriend loved the mango daiquiris. For the specialty restaurants, we chose Cagney's steakhouse, Le Bistro and Moderno. Each was a different dining experience which is what we were looking for. Highlights: Cagney - the grilled sea bass and bison steak. Make sure you get the bison steak medium rare, as recommended by our server. Le Bistro - the duck and chocolate napoleon dessert Moderno - the Brazilian cocktails were tasty, but strong. Meats were delicious, but I was impressed with the salad bar selection. MDRs were great too. We had breakfast most days in Seven Seas. We had dinner our first night on the ship at Seven Seas and had a wonderful server, Betina, look after us. Thank you Betina. The buffet was the wink link for me. There were some good options, but I found it mediocre at best. Itinerary changed just before we boarded. Instead of Great Stirrup Caye in Bahamas, the port became Key West and that suited me fine. Ports: Key West - we went out on our own and walked and walked and walked all the way to the southernmost point and back. Lunch was enjoyed at a local restaurant. Havana - went out on our own and walked and walked and walked. We ended up at the waterfront and old fort. Not touristy in that area at all. We enjoyed lunch at a local restaurant. As a Canadian, I was always told that Cuba was great, but the food was lousy. Our lunch was delicious. We had a seafood platter and roasted chicken dinner. The sangria was outstanding. The owner and staff couldn't be more accommodating. Remember to visit the Artisan Marketplace in Havana. I picked up some nice pictures for framing. Harvest Caye - Took a shore excursion to a chocolate factory. The shore excursion description is deceptive. The chocolate factory is a cacao family run farm. They showed us how they made chocolate and took us on a tour amongst the cacao trees. Please note there is steep climbing involved so wear proper footwear and it's not a good tour for anyone with mobility issues. We had a traditional belize lunch at a restaurant. Delish. Picked up a few gifts. Marie Sharp hot sauce is outstanding. Final stop was a Mayan village to see how they lived and we learned how to make corn tortillas. Lovely people, very welcoming. Costa Maya - shore excursion to the Cacchoben mayan ruins. Arturo was our guide and the tour was Informative and interesting. All in all a wonderful holiday. Just remember to bring a hat, lots of sunscreen and maybe a few extra pieces of clothing because it was Sunny and HOT. Read Less

No straws ! Bring your own if you like frozen drinks ! You cannot sip them til it melts Get the iconcierge app. You can communicate with others on board who have the app and give you their special number to add as a contact $9.99 total for the week per phone, no other charges It will give you all the daily activities by time each day and the Deck # ! You can also check future days activities. ALSO you can check your charges and get problem charges resoled that day Last day the lines are VERY long with people paying cash and resolving issues 2 hrs at least ! I went 5 times to get prices resolved The pools are too crowded If you want to save seats get there by 7 AM on sea days . In port its much better at the pool. Many things cost money and can be charged to your room. Bingo 49.00 for 2, Deal or no deal 25.00 for 2games pp Some drinks are an upgrade like Gentleman Jack Daniels for 2.35 per drink Gambling , lotto.and more . Cagneys steak house was the BEST ! Great everything ! OSheehans is most popular because you can look down below to the Atrium where there is so much to see and participate in like Deal or no deal and battle of the sexes and Trivia. If bad weather outside you will not get near the atrium or Osheehans on the overlook My husband is phobic clean and he gave ths hip an A+ ! We had Ashok as our Steward and he was amazing Always took care of our room when we left never disturbed us There is pen and paper in the room to leave a note if you needed something from him . My 15 yr old grandaughter did not connect with the teen group, but heard from another father that his 2 girls did (15-16yrs old) and did not get in til 5AM one morning, then he gave them a curfew ! This ship is Beautiful, everywhere ! I would highly recommend it !! we sailed from NYV 7/22-7/30 We got to a close parking lot in NYC we got there around 8:30 There are only 400 spaces I think The next lot over was a walk So parking in this lot right at Port 88 we just took the terminal down to the port Leaving was easy too after we got our bags thru custome which went pretty fast Enjoy ! We chose this cruise, though we usually cruise smaller, higher end ships like Viking Ocean and Oceania’s newer ships because we wanted to take younger grandchildren and their parents to see the glaciers while they still exist, on a ship that would be fun for the kids, age 9,8,7 & 6. We booked a Haven Penthouse suite aft with a huge balcony so all could enjoy and put the others in balcony cabins right next door (or so we thought). First “untruth: they moved one cabin up 3 decks without notification until we got the paperwork, and by then the cabin we had actually booked was gone. Next THREE different people told us that even though we had the beverage package we couldn’t use the minibar without paying extra (mind you, our little suite cost $10,000 more than the balcony cabins). BUT, they said 3 times, your butler can bring you drinks for free. WRONG! You have to pay for those drinks. Next, the 3rd person in your expensive suite (or the other cabins) gets NONE of the “freebies.” They forgot to mention that detail. The list of Haven Suite amenities lists binoculars. No binoculars on the Bliss, even though it clearly states there are. When we asked, they said (and I’m serious),”There are no binoculars anywhere on the Bliss....but you can purchase them at one of the stores”. Seriously, and from several people we asked. We had no binoculars except borrowed from our son-in-law. I use a small Travelscoot because I am partially handicapped. There is not ONE sharp edge anywhere on it. On every cruise we’ve gone on in the past 5 years, it’s so small that I always drove it right into our suite. These doorways are too small, so we had to fold it up and carry it in every time. The second day, someone left two scratches on the door (clearly made by a sharp edged something which we didn’t have). Down come these two burly security dudes, wanting to inspect our scooter and making my husband show them how he folded it up and came in and out,...twice. Next, my husband visited the medical folks because he had scraped his arm on a suitcase zipper somehow and the bandaids we brought just didn’t do the job. Out comes security again, telling him he had to go back to the cabin and demonstrate how this happened BEFORE they would give him the bandage he needed. He refused to go until his arm was treated. Then the goons came to the suite, made him take the suitcase out from under the bed, and took photographs of the suitcase, my husband, and his SHOES. So welcoming. Also not mentioned, the prepaid gratuities, not cheap at $17.50 a day per person, do not get shared at all with your butler or the concierge because they serve only the suites. So for them to get anything, you must personally pay them a gratuity. Your beverage package that you purchase - it covers drinks and wine up to $15, which is fine, but does NOT cover espresso or cappuccino, which actually cost less. And that free room service you get with your Haven suite is NOT free for the third person. I could go on about nickle and diming you for all the fun activities, but I’ll stop with the negative stuff. The ship is truly beautiful. The Mexican and Italian specialty restaurants were truly wonderful, and the service was terrific. The main dining rooms, both regular and Haven, were adequate, nothing more. Jersey Boys was SENSATIONAL. Havana, not so much. The only excursion we did through the ship was the sled dog experience and it was really great for the kids. We made our own arrangements for other excursions. Our butler, Lanie was really terrific and made our trip much more enjoyable. My husband, because of his wonderful Naval career, got a personal bridge tour and they really took a lot of time with him, both the Captain and the second in command, swapping sea stories. Would we sail Norwegian again? Never. Read Less

Words cannot describe how happy we were with this NCL cruise. It was truly one of the best experiences of my life. Certainly as vacations go it is the best I've ever experienced. And I have had some really good ones! I absolutely recommend this cruise and NCL cruise line if you are looking to see Alaska. Everything was first rate from the excursions offered to the amenities, food, ship, and people. Were there hiccups? Of course. But many of those were because we were first time cruisers. A few pieces of advice I'd offer for first timers is to fully use you Personal Cruise Consultant assigned to you. Use him/her for everything. We did not take full advantage and had some struggles. But even with the struggles the voyage and destinations were so awe-inspiring and fun, the few issues seemed minor and did not merit further thought. Some other advice I'd offer is don't pinch pennies on the excursions. Not to be free with other peoples money, but even if you splurge a bit on one of the excursions offered, do it. A sea plane to the Misty Fjord or landing on the Mendenhall Glacier in a helicopter will be the highlight of your trip. Finally, plan for an extra day in Seattle if possible. There is a lot to see there! If I had anything negative to say it would be that there are a number of activities, entertainment, and such on the ship which cost "extra." Here's the deal, we were able to stay busy and have fun without many of those because there is so much to do. A couple of things we did do were the thermal spa package and the go karts just so we could say we did it. That was pretty fun actually. We also paid to have water bottles in our cabin and did the soda package. That was money well spent for us. So budget for those things you think are important, take full advantage of everything offered as part of your cruise package, and accept that there will always be a hiccup or two.... and you will have the time of your life! ship was very good balcony cabin 8199 deck eight, some cabin are restricted view down to water or enclosed panels etc, this cabin was perfect the balcony was largest we have had, (one chair and one chair reclined and a small table) we were the right hand of the ship, only issues were every morning when docking at 5.30/6am we were awoken by the engine thrusters (every morning), the toilet was to the right hand side of the door shower on left but sink (which was tiny en-suite sink) was in the room - this allowed me to shave whilst my wife had a shower ( gave us extra time we looked at positives but prefer traditional bathroom styles of other ncl ships. the sofa was next to the balcony. The ship is noisy throughout ( o'sheehans has bar on one side the restaurant on the other but a main walkway for the ship through the middle, there is ten pin bowling going on , pool tables and air hockey , everyone shouting to be heard above the noise ,the atrium has noise coming up from its level to osheenans ( i normally love eating in here on other ncl ships but the noise was unbearable - the garden cafe ie canteen was a lot quieter) taste was good but Manhattan was best quieter and relaxed, although twice in the week there was piano etc entertainment - we went specifically for this but we couldn't hear any entertainment for everone at other tables shouting over the top of the music to there friends at the same table , ( if you go for music and entertainment you should listen and be quiet and allow others to listen - if you want to eat and talk go to TASTE RESTAURANT ON THOSE NIGHTS, this was another noisy un-relaxing meal on the epic something they are good at. there was never any problem getting drinks at the bars, there are lots in a similar area if some are busy go to the next. the lifts are unbearable we walked up and down stairs all the time. if you did get a lift you are sure it will stop for people getting in or out at every floor. i have never know lifts to be so busy on any of the other 9 ships we have been on, the ones at the front are the worst. The sunbeds - well on the sea day a member of staff was asked if there were any sunbeds - he proceeded to point to the sunbeds with towels on them and laughed leaving the customer exasperated ( not the best response) he could have said there were over a hundred sunbeds up on the quiet deck ( deck 18) using the stairs from floor 15 at the garden cafe entrance ( this seems to be an unknown area as it was empty most days and although there are no bar areas serviced by waiters and also infused water available. rattana sunbeds with cushions and rattan cabana style sun beds. ( i don't think i should have said about this area as it wont be quiet anymore but i think it should be advised to guests as an option on sea days when thery are standing around without beds the entertainment was good Beatles in main theater 1st night, then in the cavern most nights. cirque show was superb we went at 7.45 waited to get in at 8pm and were given ringside seats best seat in show, we said we didn't want to hurt our necks looking up and would prefer balcony seats, the staff were shocked and said these were excellent seats and they were correct ( pay extra for ground floor seats show was right in front of us and you felt like you were in the show. Barcelona - hop on hop off bus - 3 routes. Very good system. There are a couple of companies so make sure you get on the right bus on and off. We enjoyed la rambla wandering at fruit/fish market. Squares, arc triemf, familia catheral . bought copy designer bags they were asking 85 euros, we paid 15 euros, we bought two large and one smaller prada, and gucci 15 euros eack. stick to your price, i just said that was all i was paying and they knew i had their bottom price ( local bar tender told me not to pay more) i walked away at watched bottom price was 50 euros for fully automatic rolex, omega etc they are still just a cheap watch with a copy name it might not even work the next day no warranty etc , not worth taking the chance Naples -Positto Pompeii,Sorrento Amalfi coast, used a normal taxi at port, two couples 150 euros per couple we didn't know the couple he got two others to join us ( driver was Angelo - he was superb very relaxed and informative) buy tickets prior online for pompei, we were 8 people from the front and took 25 mins to get in, there are two ques on for paying in (middle line) and tour guides (left line) the ticket seller booth takes 3 tour guides to every one paying visitor, the line to the right has its own ticket booth this is for online pre paid vouchers, ( best option). there were hundreds behind us and it was very very stressful paying ( not a good experience you had to physically push your way to the desk. (buy o ticket online to avoid stress. Rome - buy ticket at newsagent ( birg ticket) across the road from the shuttle drop off point at the roundabout. Follow the road parallel to the sea to train station (easily walkable 10mins well signed. put ur ticket it in green machine at train station before boarding slide to left and it will stamp - validate it, u then use it all day on trains underground and buses 12 euros all day travel. We dont use public transport and found it easy to use ( we asked locals a couple of times and they were very helpful- seems daunting but all train stops are marked above the train doors, and they announced the stops. Stops also say colosn and trevi fount etc easily recognized. Florence €19 return leaves 12mins past hour. Takes 1hr 20mins . We went from liverno station ( cruise shuttle €15 euro each) we missed train so we went via pisa. Got off train caught bus for 2 euros, same back to station then train to florence took 1hr. Train back at 3pm plenty of time 1 hr 10 mins back, there is no 4pm train back so 5pm train would be to late for shuttle back it stops at 5.45pm Freinzi Smn station ( ie florence is end of the line ) not the freinzi station stop before. Cannes- cant get off ship till 10.30am tender if u haven't book a tender. ( worth booking - if its to early for you, don't turn up just go after 10.30. noddy train at end on tender dock. 10 euro per person lasts 40/45mins . You get audio and a little bit of an idea of where is worth a visit. We had a walk up the oldest street and a look in general shops. Coffee and cake. Spent a relaxing 3.5hrs then back to ship Palma - shop shuttle 15 euros per person return but the taxi is 10 euro total for 4 to city centre ( cathedral ) same back. (i think ncl are a big bit cheeky charging 15 euro per person, we were two people and saved 10 euros and got taxi to where we wanted and got taxi from where we finished, no unnecessary waiting or walking (taxi best option) Cruise port to bcn airport terminal 2 - taxi 39 euros set fee (20mins) overall the itinerary was good, the staff were friendly and helpful, the ship was bearable very big and lots going on but to noisy at meal times. i think they are trying to get to much in every space, mostly to make more money and the tours and shuttles are extortionate, look online for private companies or get a taxi you will save money . do your home work Read Less

Norwegian Getaway, June 17 – 24, 2018 – Miami-Roatan-Belize-Costa Maya-Cozumel I booked this solo voyage literally, 10-days prior to sailing. I watch the NCL website almost daily, so when the price for this trip dropped in, I booked it immediately. I booked a large balcony, 9722, along with the Ultimate Beverage Package (UBP) and a Three-pack Ultimate Dining Package (UDP). Day One – Embarkation – Not as chaotic as it seemed on the outside. Thankfully, we were the only ship departing that day, so it was just a matter of waiting in line. I was on-board within 45 minutes of arriving at the pier. Since the rooms weren’t ready, I found my way to the Sunset Bar on Deck 8. It was outside but in the shade. They were still fueling the ship, so smoking was prohibited as well. I really enjoyed this bar but as soon as the fueling stopped, it was just a cloud of smoke and I never had another drink at the outside portion of this bar. I had dinner in La Cucina as part of my UDP. I really expected a hassle eating solo, but the staff never missed a beat. Johna was my server and I couldn’t have been happier. I had Beef Carpaccio as an appetizer. It was fantastic. I had Lasagna and Osso Bucco followed by Tiramisu perfection. All this was accompanied by the line’s private label wine North & South as part of my UBP. Day two was a sea day. I really enjoy sea days since you can do a lot, a little, or nothing at all. I started with Eggs Benedict in Taste. I found my way to the Atrium for a great session of Deal or No Deal. The girl on my cruise won the $1000! I’m out $25 for my card. Afternoon nap. Dinner in Tropicana Room with Serli & Lara taking good care of me. Wever stopped by to make sure everything was to my liking. It was. I had the Chicken Parmesan and it was just perfect. Day three was Roatan, Honduras. I booked a 90-minute massage at a small spa on the north side of the island, Spa Baan Suerte. They picked me up and dropped me off for only $20 more. Great massage at a good price. I managed to have lunch at the small grill “down the beach” a little from the spa. Nice day. Day four was at Harvest Caye, Belize, the line’s private island. Since nothing on the island was included in my package, I stayed on the ship for the day. Although not as many venues are open on the ship as when she’s at sea, it’s nice to have run-of-the-ship while most everyone else is off on their exDacursions. Day five in Costa Maya, Mexico was brutally hot. The walk from the ship to the port shops was very windy, but once you passed the entry, all that air was blocked. Most people eventually found the diamond exchange with it’s open doors and the air conditioning just pouring out. I eventually found my was to the Tequila museum or the bar next to it. Great margaritas. I had two before I found my way to the tacos. I really came here for the Fish Spa which was every bit as weird as it seemed but something I had to try. Dinner was in Cagney’s as part of my UDP. I really enjoyed my view out the back of the ship. Prince, chatted with me about wine for a few moments, but I kept with my North & South red blend for this meal. My filet was cooked perfectly and was even better thanks to the Béarnaise sauce recommended to me by my server, Salinsito. I witnessed the size of the chocolate cake and knew I couldn’t handle dessert. Day six was in Cozumel. I boarded the ship knowing I wasn’t getting off in Cozumel. My research showed that there were four ships in port this day. I was surprised to see an MSC ship there as well, so five ships in port. IMO that equals mayhem. Another ship day for me and very relaxing at that. I had dinner in Moderno this day. Everything was flavorful I just wish I could have eaten more. Again I had to pass on dessert. I really enjoyed my UDP. Day seven, another sea day. I love sea days. I just strolled around the ship all day, napped a little and managed to spend some time up at Waves bar. Although I don’t enjoy the crowds and rowdy nature of the pool deck, this day wasn’t so bad. I like to mention some people who made my trip a little more memorable. First, Daniel from Prime Meridian. Daniel is a master bartender and fun to watch work. He and Nicoly work the Prime Meridian during dinner hours. Daniel was also found up at Waves on sea days along with Evelyn & Llewel. These two were a riot and I had fun wherever I came upon them. My cabin steward was Wayan. I’m not sure if Wayan had two areas of responsibility, because he was always the last steward to show up to clean rooms in the morning. Let me end with a little rant about our CruiseCritic Roll Call members who signed up for the meet & greet and then never showed up. Over 30 signed up but only 10 showed. Enough said. Read Less

The Norwegian Bliss was way too crowded. 4200 people and two elevator areas made it always a long wait. Every theatre was crowded and you had to reserve a spot or you had to wait to enter. Atrium area was very crowded. Standing room only. The ship was so large that it could not come close to glacier. You were miles away and could only see half. All other ships get the whole experience. This ship is not suitable for Alaska. That was suppose to be the highlight of the ship and was extremely disappointed. The Manhattan Dining room was very slow. The waiter brought ketchup in bottle to our table and then took it away to Bring to other table without even asking. There was a private event for an Indian group on ship that took the whole front of observation deck and we were kicked out. Another night the Margaritaville room was blocked off for another private party. One night the Bliss Theatre had an entire section blocked off for them. Really? We all paid for this ship. Warning! Don’t use this ship if you want to see Glacier Bay! Read Less

Wanted to experience Alaska. Spent too much time on the ship. Loved most of my excursions especially the Skagway train & Ketchikan float plane ride. Skip Liarsville lunch & show. Not worth your time or money. Enjoyed seeing the Glacier in Juneau & the boat ride to see the whales & sea lions & lots of eagles. Only complaint is the whale quest boat ride was too long. Paid for a penthouse suite but it wasn’t worth the $$ for the value. Room size was nice but VIP treatment & concierge, Butler were all lacking. Entertainment & activities on ship were subpar too. The Russian Acrobatic show was the only standout. Food overall was good, especially at the specialty restaurants. Not enough bartenders & waiters to serve drinks at most bars. I’m paying good money & I don’t want to stand around a bar for 10 mins waiting for someone to acknowledge me & make a drink. Pearl Boat in great shape. Crew needs to step it up many levels to be worth lux $$$ customer again. Recommend hiring a new concierge that has a friendly disposition & genuinely likes to serve her customers. Didn’t get that feeling. Read Less

This was my wife’s first cruise and cruise planners suggested NCL as the best. We can now confirm Debbie Wegner was 100% correct. We experienced nothing but the best service the whole cruise. One major example was on our last excursion in Mexico. My wife had a medical emergency. She was transported to the hospital and the sun and fun tour personnel stayed with us the whole time. Addy Chi made sure she stayed in constant contact with the ship and her company to ensure they knew our situation. She made the heroic efforts to get us back to the ship before it departed. The NCl crew agreed to delay the departure for 30 minutes to allow us to get back to Cozumel. We made it with just one minute to spare. This was made possible by all the coordination between Addy, sun and fun as well as the ncl crew. Then as soon as we were back on board the ship had sweets in our room and had already credited us for the excursion which was not expected. We will definitely make NCL our cruise line of choice from now on. Read Less

We wanted to take a once in a lifetime type family vacation and the Escaoe delivered. We took our 3 kids ages 9,7,5. So many things to do on the ship, we didn’t even get off at two of the ports. Buffet is complimentary along with 4 other sit down restaurants. We ate at the buffet every meal except one one because it was super easy with the kids. If you are traveling with children here’s what you’ll want to know. Splash academy has free daycare until10:30pm with lots of group activities. The guppies nursery is there too for children under 3 I believe is the age limit . The super fast free fall drop slide called the aqua loop has a minimum 48” and 100lb. Weight limit but 40” requirement on the other aqua racer slide . There are 2 other water slides that my small 5 your old girl had no issues going down . Also the ropes course is awesome but does have a 48” minimum also need closed toe shoes and shorts (pretty strict) for this . They do have a course for the smaller children too but will need an adult accompanying . Also if first cruise the middle of ship on lower decks is really smooth riding. If you book a family room with picture window there is a bunk bed that comes down from cieling . You’ll have to ask them to lower it . We had them leave it down for entire trip. Our family of 5 fit fine in the room. We stayed in room 5776 on starboard side. Read the free newsletter they send out every morning and bring a highlighter to select programs/ games etc. that you want to catch because there are a ton, you won’t make them all.Have fun !!! We choose this cruise as the ship was supposed to have been refurbished in 2016 and we thought it would be like a new ship. After we boarded we found a letter from Norwegian Cruise Line that there were going to be a few inhancements being done during our cruise. Unfortunately that was a huge understatement as they were doing major construction with hazardous materials and chemicals that made many of us ill. We would never have put ourselves at this kind of health risk. The construction should have been preformed at dry dock where the chemicals and materials could be controlled. There was no regard to the health risks for passengers or crew members. The food was average and there seemed to be many waiters that were in training and not getting our orders correct. The service was very slow. There was a real language barrier that caused many of the service errors. The sports bar served very greasy food. I put 2 paper napkins under the fish I was served and it saturated both of them. We had a drink package and had many comments about how much we ordered. Pretty rude of the bar servers. Read Less

We have just returned from the "Cruise from HELL" aboard NCL Sun. During our 15 night cruise, there was construction going on. There was insulation blowing around, paint dust blowing everywhere, the muster station doors were closed off during DAYS of our cruise, the pool area was closed for a few days, sanding the decks, drilling, jack hammering etc from sun up until around midnight EVERY NIGHT. Our cruise was a complete DISASTER!! There was between 15% - 30% of the ship CLOSED on all days! A few of the specialty restaurants NEVER opened during the entire vacation. Many people have been sick with respiratory issues due to the nauseous fumes of the products they have been using while passengers are on board this cruise ship. The Sun is scheduled to be on dry dock for more renovations, but yet NCL chose to also inconvenience its passengers and put us all in danger as many of the Emergency meeting stations were not accessible while they were refinishing the deck floors on deck 6, the meeting deck. STAY AWAY from NCL! They don't care about their passengers...only saving money! This ship was quite old and dated. Many times, there was industrial fans running down the hallways as there were plumbing leaks. The crew did do the best they could during this situation. I particularly enjoyed Victor at the bar deck 11 aft. He was always smiling and trying his best. Room was OK. Read Less

We planned this trip for 2 years as it has always been a bucket list cruise for us. We booked a guaranteed balcony room in order to save on costs. Around 4 months out, we got our room assignment to a balcony on deck 10 forward. We were thrilled with our luck, but it was nothing compared with bidding on day 80 on a penthouse suite aft. We found out we won 30 days out. This penthouse 8672, came with a butler and conceige. What a dream! Unfortunately our dream suite was located directly over the Spinnaker Lounge! We read a lot of bad reviews on this room but decided that the benefits were well worth the bad. We came equipped with earplugs and white noise on our lap tops. We were able to sleep most of the time, but when the bass got to thumping 4 out of 14 nights and it shook the floor and walls, it was almost impossible to ignore. We usually go to bed around 11 and thankfully, the music was usually over by 12:30. I would recommend cruisers watch tv late or join in downstairs and go to bed later. The butler and room steward were awesome! They went out of their way to make this cruise special. The conceirge was great and always smiled and called us by name, even gave us special seating reserved for suite owners when it was available. The food was great. We bought an extra meal package, so we were able to eat at the specialty restaurants 7 out of 14 days. Our favorites: Teppanyaki, Le Bistro and Carney’s. We were also spoiled by the special breakfast and lunch reserved for the Haven guests...awesome service. The entertainment was great! We especially enjoyed the comedians and These Guys, world wide. The dancers put on a some nice shows as well. All in all, I was not disappointed. The excursions were ok but a bit expensive sometimes for what they were. I wish we had more education seminars about each country by the staff. Also, what happened to a the shopping tips NCL does for other ports? We got nothing about what each port had to offer. But My biggest disappointment was with the tours that took you into the cities in Nicaragua and Guatemala. Depending on what tour we took, the excursions left you to wonder for 8 hours on your own. It would have been nice to either have a choice of a shorter trip of 5 hours or be able to get transportation back to the ship earlier. All in all, It was a very enlightening experience to see this part of the world. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Everyone on the staff was exceptional, except for the events coordinator. We were in charge of the cruise critic meet and greet and had contact him about an additional room to play sea days LCR games. He let us down, shifting us around from room to room and then not informing us of changes. He promised to call us but never did so we had to track him down to get location changes....very frustrating. We loved and were spoiled by our luck in first winning a penthouse suite and its accommodations and service. Thank you NCL! It will always be a wonderful memory. Read Less

We were with a party of 31, but we were the only couple of our group who booked the Haven 2 Bedroom suite with two baths. Cabin 17118... With 4200 passengers, the ship is just too big for comfort. HUGE ship. Overeating crowds are everywhere. THE HAVEN: Rooms are well appointed in the Haven, I can not speak for the cabins outside of this private suite area. Since The Haven is a private access via card only area, it is what a relaxing cruise should be. Do not bring a hairdryer or magnifying mirror, both are excellent- there were 2 dryers in the family suite. Serving staff is awesome, but I always tip when I get there and again when I leave, even if tips are included in the fare, I just hope most people recognize how hard these people work and do the same. Everyone in this area is top notch when it comes to service. Bed was very comfortable, slept like a baby. Main bathroom fully equipped with soaking tub, over sized shower with multiple jets. Second bath in the kids section adequate when two are getting ready at the same time. The ship was one of the most STABLE I have cruised on, and I was aft. & had a couple from Chicago with three kids in the identical unit next to us, and never heard them in their cabin. Suffice to stay walls must be well insulated. Book your restaurants well in advance. FOOD: Food was excellent, but we did utilize the private dining area for breakfast offered to the Haven guests. We ate at Taste, the Brazilian restaurant, The Bistro and the Manhattan. I do not recommend the Manhattan as it is very noisy and service is just not what I expect. ENTERTAINMENT: Entertainment was great, we went to a couple shows, dueling pianos, and the Supper Club featuring "The Company Men" who do mash up songs (as many as 4 songs simultaneously in harmony) they are just awesome performers. AGAIN, BOOK VENUES IN ADVANCE. PORTS: There was a "Medical Emergency" on the ship and we had to sail back to Miami, which reversed the itinerary, eliminated one port (Bahamas) and forced us to dock at Ochp Rios (hate it there) instead of Falmouth in Jamaica. We booked Mr Sanchos privately in Cozumel, I recommend booking a cabana at Royal Palms in Grand Cayman way in advance as the beaches the cabbies will take you are awful. AS far as Jamaica, it was a waste of time docking at Ocho Rios. If that ever happens to you, book a day pass at a luxury resort. It is just a mess there and has been, with hurricanes, without hurricanes or while being renovated-I have been there during all three scenarios. Too much ganja I suppose. CHILDREN: I did not travel with children, but there is plenty for them to do on the ship. Giant waterslides, small zipline, play areas, and many activities. RETURN TRIP? Not sure I would ever go on this ship again, as it is just Tooooooooooo Big. If you like crowds then this is the ship for you, just do not expect a big pool. There isn't one! Read Less

After my DH initial cruise 40 yrs ago that consisted of me being sick for first 3 days in an inside cabin and DH getting ever sicker on the last 4 days of this honeymoon first time cruise, his position was never again. He stuck with it while I pursued cruising with my sister and family and loved it. I begged him to try again during those 40 yrs, but no, never again. Last year a neighbor mentioned this cruise and my DH said, let's go on that with them!! Not waiting for him to over think this, I quickly made reservation and he loved it. No seasickness. He loved the socializing, the bars, the anytime meal time. Has some mobility issues these days so shore time was minimal. Had everything possible just in case sea sickness came back, including prescription meds, wrist bands, OTC meds and made sure he took a RX pill every day for 3 days - never go sick and stopped taking them on day 4. We even had some rough water going to Costa Rica which woke him up so he could give me a pill, but never felt ill just sad we could dock because of weather conditions. The room was a mini suite that had everything we needed, coffee, TV, balcony, great location near elevator for him. Took about 2 days and he knew where everything was. I am a big casino fan, so that too was great and came out on the + side. We left on his birthday which helped getting over that hurdle. Embarkation was a little stressful to start with as he needed a wheelchair to get him on the ship and the wait took forever, but disembarkation was a pleasure. The room was always well tended, crew always available and friendly. It was such a great experience for him that he wanted to take another cruise! So I've booked us on another NCL out of Tampa for 7 days. He thought that was too long to wait - can you believe this? Now I have a cruise going in July on Princess followed in November with another NCL. So, yes, I'm very happy with the experience, with NCL and best of all I now have a DH who loves to cruise and it only took 40 years!!! Read Less
