This was our fourth cruise, first on Norwegian. Could not even come close to the quality of all other cruise ships we’ve been on. Our biggest complaint was the lack of food choices available on the ship. TWO restaurants had the exact same menus. What a waste. Food average. Never had shrimp cocktail, properly made Italian food choices. Desserts and appetizers good. Rooms were adequate, our room with a balcony was great (however, they never cleaned the balcony surround enclosure, hard to see out if you were seated. Bed was comfortable and our steward “Roberto” was the nicest employee on the ship. Everyone else on cruise was for the most part not friendly or helpful. If u asked a question about almost anything they didn’t know!! Or they just ignored you, They did not know what seltzer was! Really with all those bars on board! Did not keep after the public areas. Had to leave our coffee cups and glasses on tables cause there were no receptacles around to dispose of trash. Four hours after I left a glass, the same one was was still there, unbelievable! The places we visited were great, no problem there. Would we cruise the Jade again, never! Also, not nearly as beautiful as all other ships! Also could not hear any announcements in the staterooms, channel 24 on TV was supposed to have this service available as per cruise director. We had to argue with personnel on board to get lounge chairs they had tied so we could join other guests on deck. Deck Stewart claimed it was not his decision to untie and place those lounges! The cruise cost us a lot of money and we all felt we were not treated as well as other cruises have in the past. Read Less

We chose NCL because we had traveled on the Spirit a couple years ago and wanted to take our teenagers on a special trip over Spring Break. We had a total of six people - one mini-suite and one inside cabin. We opted to not do the specialty dining this cruise (as we didn't think the kids would fully appreciate it) and have our special offers consist of shore excursion credits. POSITIVE: Amazing entertainment/shows each evening. We were all so impressed! NEGATIVE: The smoking policy needs to change on NCL. The ENTIRE, and I mean ENTIRE, sixth floor was overwhelmed with cigarette odor because it is allowed in the casino and the doors were always open. Sometimes this spread through decks seven and five, as well. It was quite bad and an area through which we needed to walk to attend the shows. POSITIVE: Entourage Teens Club - lots of activities and the kids LOVED it. NEGATIVE: Groups of teenagers congregating on the stairs and other common areas when it was closed. Perhaps they can hang out in there during the day? POSITIVE: Steward attentiveness - he knew our names from the very first day! NEGATIVE: We'd never had a mini-suite. Other than the full bathtub, I'm not sure it should qualify for more than a balcony room. Also, we had reserved a mid-ship room and were clearly in the aft portion of the ship. Fortunately, none of my new cruisers got seasick. POSITIVE: The buffet had selections that changed daily and there was more variety than I remember on the last ship. NEGATIVE: The buffet was closed for up to 1 1/2 hours at a time and with our odd shore excursion arrival/departure times, we often arrived and weren't able to eat! While they told us to go to the Topsider's Grill, it also was closed at times. Yikes! NEGATIVE: The ice cream machine was broken off and on throughout the entire cruise! Major bummer for teenagers. POSITIVE: Most shore excursions. Really great experiences (mostly). NEGATIVE: Shore excursion in St. Lucia was TERRIBLE. In fairness, the shore excursion staff had warned us of problems but we booked it anyway. Unknown to us, they sent one of their staff incognito to check it out and tour with us. I didn't know this until I went to report our complaints with the tour. Also, note that they credited our accounts with 20% of our payment for our problems AND it appears they've removed that shore excursion from their list of availability! Read Less

The comedian was funny as was the ventriloquist, the singers and dancers were good, the singer from Vegas (Alyssa Harris) was great, the acrobat duo were fantastic. We thought the shows were the best that we have seen and we have been on 7 cruises across 4 lines. Main dining room food was the least appealing of all of our cruises. Crepe and omelette stations in buffet were nice. They know how to make real cheesecake! We tried many flavors. My husband liked the ice cream and the milk stations close together. :) We enjoyed the free pub, O'Sheehan's. We appreciated the many ports included on this cruise. We usually do our own excursions but went entirely with the cruise line on this one due to security concerns. They were expensive, but with the $50 per port excursion perk, they were manageable. It was a lot of time on buses and other transport, but the guides were good and the trips well managed. We were warehoused for a couple of hours before embarking, something that we usually avoid by arriving a bit later. They offered enrichment activities like painting and origami, but they didn't interest us. We exercise daily and found the track to be small but ok and the fitness room to be ok. Staff were pleasant across the board, especially the excursions desk which allowed us to make a couple of changes at the last minute. Overall price was quite high for a vacation for us as budget conscious travelers. We enjoyed our vacation and would book with Norwegian again. Read Less

This was my 2nd time on a NCL ship. My first memorable experience with Jewel and impressive service from NCL Sydney office were the reasons for my 2nd time. This particular trip was arranged as all of us had not been to Norway. From the booking to every single arrangement, our NCL consultant, Michelle Farren had been very helpful with her prompt response, despite 17 of us in the group. It was handed over to Hayley, who helped us before we sailed. Awesome service from NCL Sydney office!i never thought would happen to any cruise line due to some past negative experiences. Every day, our cruise ship, Norwegian Jade passed by different mountains. In the early summer, the snow covered mountains and visits to the fairytale lands in Norway warmed my heart during this memorable cruise trip. It's indeed a very beautiful Norwegian Fjords' journey, which all of us had enjoyed very much. We had selected 2 Free at Seas for each cabin. On top of that, we were given the Distinctive Voyages with few more addtional benefits, such as 250 min free wifi, 120 phone call credit that allows us to call any part of the world, another $50 shore credit per port etc. Most of us were busy every day taking part in different shore excursions. Though a few incidents happened on the ship, upon receipt of my comments, its cruuse director & guest services manager had contacted me personally. Service recoveries were offered to my cruise mates and I had received a complimentary wine & chocolates as well. Thanks for the prompt response and I was grateful that my friends were happy before they left the ship. I saw the Carbaret show by the production team onboard and it was really interesting to showcase Broadway musical at the lounge. The Cruise Director and his team had performed a very interesting "Movie Sketch Comedy Show'. Very great teamwork! Among the specialty restaurants, my team mates loved Cagney, Le Bistro, Moderno Churrascaria. Teppanyaki may require some improvements on the skills by the Chef. Grand Pacific, Alizar and Cafe Garden were great! We all love the foods. Read Less

This was our 4th family cruise and first on Norweign Cruise line. We have cruised Disney, Carnival and Royal. This by far is our least liked cruise. This experience left a lot to be desired from food selection to entertainment to kids program. The only best part of our cruise was the unlimited beverage package we opted for as one of the bonus. If we didn't have this I probably would of gave this experience a one. The only food we enjoyed was breakfast as it provided lots of options but that was where it ended as Lunch was below average and dinner we skipped because of lack of selection. Servers appeared to be unhappy with their jobs as they were not personable at all nor did they smile. They one person who was pleasant to see every day was the lady spraying antibacterial on our hands as we enter the outdoor dining room. We definitely do not plan to cruise Norweign again and will share with all our not so fun time here. Read Less

I’m an avid cruise goer and I have yet to try a Norwegian cruise. We left from Miami and left for Cozumel on a 4 night adventure. This was the only cruise where the service and food have been bare minimum and honestly a 4/10. The food selection was terrible and the service staff looked as if they hated all their jobs. Each restaurant dining took a minimum of 1:45 min to eat and leave. The service at the bars was also under par. The unlimited package claims 2 drinks per transaction but I was told that wasn’t a policy by a bartender. Then he proceeded to give an older gentleman two during his transaction right beside me! So Ondont know if there was a miscommunication but regardless it was quite annoying and distasteful. The breakfast was the worst food on the boat. carnival and royal Caribbean both have wonderful all you can eat buffet but Norwegians tasted like powedered eggs and over cooked everything. Read Less

The entire cruise staff were welcoming, made us feel like we were VIP guests and went out of their way to make our 4 and 10 year old feel special. We enjoyed all the restaurants, the drinks, the pool, Splash Academy, shows and entertainment. We cruised with another cruise ship years ago and this experience was hands down the best and exceeded our expectations. The islands we visited were fantastic, we were treated excellent at each port by locals and felt safe throughout the islands. Our room steward was amazing, he greeted our boys every single morning and evening with fist bumps and knew them by name after the first day. We had exceptional service in the restaurants, the waiters made great recommendations from the menu and the wine steward paired delicious wines to go with our entrees. We are already looking forward to booking another cruise. Read Less

Took this cruise with All inclusive drinks package. We wanted a different cruise and thought the splendour of the fjords would be a great sight to see. Weather was a bit iffy at first but nothing we can do about that. Nice balcony cabin, good food, apart from the Jasmine restaurant food was cold and had to ask for it to be re heated. La Cucina was a disappointment too, far too much parmesan made the dish very salty. Restaurant food was very good as was The Bistro and Cagneys Grill, the stakes at both were superb. We felt the trips offered were very overpriced and would advise never to buy a trip on board. Some we spoke to booked trips direct from UK and saved a load of money. We didn't bother as we were content to check out the ports we visited individually. Our second cruise with Norwegian and would recommend. Read Less

They are not friendly and service is just basic. Even in the Grand Pacific, the waiters hardly even speak to you and they don't seem happy to be there. The entertainment was outstanding and "Elements" is a show you don't want to miss. Cruise Director "Dan" is awesome and high energy! Don't try and go to the pool unless you go at 6:30am. Chairs are held all day by people who don't show up and Norwegian does nothing. I spoke with staff on two different occasions and watched two people almost fight over the chairs. My husband got up at 6:30am on our last day so that we could finally get a chair. Food was great in the Grand Pacific , but nothing special about the others. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it was a choice of what went out of Tampa. Royal Caribbean had an old ship for more $$$ or Carnival an even older ship. The perks certainly had something to do with it also. We had our daughter, son in law & 1 granddaughter in a cabin so the 3rd guest was free (except taxes & fees) that saved us over $500. The other perks were nice as well but be advised if you chose the dining package some restaurants were booked before we even arrived you need to do you homework. I had the 250 internet minutes & it worked out pretty well as far as just checking in every day. The drink package is still expensive because of the service charges, but not nearly as much as if you bought the drinks separately. We also had a couple soda packages which means you have to drink a lot of soda to recoup the $61. per person fee. We were very surprised at how casual the ship is and saw only 1 couple dressed up probably for photos. I brought home a ton of unused clothes. The ports were nothing new or special as we have gone there many times. Prices have gone up in Cozumel so beaware. The Harvest Cay beach was very nice but there is no food included (like the bbq's some ships provide on their private beaches) so the poor vendors don't much $$ as people just go back to the ship for lunch. Shows were good, casino was crumby & needs an update. The ship had been refurbished a couple weeks ago so it was nice & clean. I would recommend this ship to others just be aware of the casual nature & make your reservations prior to travel. Read Less

Frankly, we picked the NCL Jade simply because their itinerary matched our son's spring break schedule. Fortunately, all the destinations were also new to us except for Cozumel. We were the second cruise after dry dock so it was not surprising to see that they had new carpets, new restaurants, refurbished bar areas, etc. The only things I saw that consistently showed wear and tear were the chairs in the common areas and bars. I believe they were well cleaned but ideally should have been replaced as seat cushions were worn out and upholstery was worn if you took the time to notice. Otherwise though, everything looked fresh and well-maintained. I did not think that public space restrooms were well maintained. I never once saw an attendant in a woman's restroom or one closed for cleaning. I did see a guy maintaining a men's room once. They'd start out ok but by mid-day there would be wet floors, tissues on the floor, toilets that needed to be cleaned and no paper towels. I don't get that when bathroom cleanliness is key to keeping a ship healthy, not to mention it was gross. Other public spaces were kept neat but not the restrooms. This is not a ship for kids if you are planning to limit excursions. It is older and not surprisingly lacks pool slides, rock walls, fountains and other pool-side thrills. The kids club seemed to have a lot available but my son found a friend and they hung out together most of the time playing basketball, video arcade games, shuffle board and pool time. We also made sure to get off and do excursions at each port to keep it interesting for our 11 year old son. We knew all of this before we booked so it was not a disappointment - just something to know about if you choose this ship. The food was adequate at the buffet. To me, it all tastes the same but my husband and son liked it well enough. We all enjoyed the specialty restaurant choices. Our favorite was Le Bistro. My husband said his steak was done perfectly and we all agreed the quality and flavor was the best of the four extra $ restaurants we tried. All were good through and worth the extra fees in our opinion. We tried Le Bistro, Moderno, Cagney's and Tempanyaki. We booked all excursions through Shore Excursion Group. The best was in Honduras. The zip lining plus snorkeling and beach excursion was fantastic. The beach area had a nice large bar and clean restrooms and there were only the dozen or so patrons of that day's excursion using the facility. We did the Playa Mia all inclusive beach resort in Cozumel and their facilities were clean and nice with no hawkers. The food was limited but plentiful and good. Drinks were also good with lots of people who would take your orders. We booked through NCL at Harvest Cay and got one of the luxury villas. Though expensive we thought it was a great experience. We didn't go anywhere else on the island because we had our own slice of paradise on the private beach and facilities included with the villa. Included as food and drink were 6 waters and a fruit plate. We enjoyed our attendant who took our pay-for food and beverage orders and the blue tooth sound system. An added plus was free and strong wifi which I was not aware would be available. Having our own bathroom as well as a shower was a nice treat but it didn't have shampoo or body wash so I'd bring that along next time. The sand was like whipped cream - white, clean and fluffy. It was very well groomed and the water was shallow for a long way from the shore. Our pictures from this beach look like post cards. NCL did a great job with developing the island as far as we're concerned. We talked with others who were in the public areas and they agreed it was beautiful. There was some grousing about having to pay for food and beverage and I understand the irritation. They said retail prices were high also. In general I rated this trip as very good but consider that we had fairly low expectations. We cruised the last three times with Disney and we knew we could not expect that level of experience and be happy. That said, Disney was about 40% more expensive so for the money, our cruise was excellent. We all had a wonderful seven days of fun, relaxation and sun. Wish we were still there!! Read Less

We choose this cruise because it coincided with Spring Break. We were up-sold on a mini-suite which was a great choice. The mini-suite was more than spacious enough for the 3 of us. The balcony with 2 chairs and a little table was very nice. We found the buffet on the Jade to be superior to the Sky. The prime rib at the buffet was 10X better than the prime rib served at the Grand Pacific restaurant. One large FAIL we thought was a dinner advertised as serving grouper. I do not know what fish was served but it was not grouper. Grouper has a distinct taste and texture. This fish tasted like tilapia. The other large FAIL which NCL can easily correct is their lost luggage protocol. How hard can it be for an employee to read my name tag located in 3 places on my luggage, cross reference that with my cabin, and deliver it? I had to be escorted at 9:30 pm to a back room where my luggage sat with numerous other "lost" pieces. We spent 5 anxious hours thinking they totally lost it which put a damper on our first day. However, the good far more outweighs the bad on the Jade! The reggae band by the pool was awesome. The crew kept the kids out of the adult pool. The bartenders worked tirelessly serving drinks. Roshon was our server for dinner and very polite and attentive. Rheyen was our steward and also very helpful and creative with his towel animals. All the washy-washy girls, Sunshine, Jinckee, Ni, were so happy-happy. The stage show "Elements" was really quite the production and a highlight of the trip. The comedian and magic acts were also lots of laughs. We had a great time. We would sail with the Jade again. Read Less

I'd never cruised before. I mean, I've taken the casino cruise out of Port Canaveral and the Spirit of Norfolk, but nothing like this. Our cruise left Tampa and took its time getting to Cozumel, then we cruised down to Costa Maya for the day, Roatan the next day, Harvest Caye (pronounce KEY I found out,) and then after that took another day to get back to Tampa. I don't have much to compare my experience to, so I'll tell you what I liked. We had a group of nine, and were celebrating my parents 50th anniversary as well as a couple birthdays. With Norwegian's freestyle plan, we were able to eat most of our meals together. The only challenge, we found, was at breakfast time because of the mad rush to get off the ship and to the excursions. But that was really no big deal. Dinners worked out well with a reservation, but many times, the reservations needed to be made well in advance, as in, not the same day. My wife and I had the dinner package that allowed us to eat in three of the specialty restaurants. We only used it once because the cruise was booked solid for Spring Break. Honestly though, the other restaurants offered such a good variety of food, that it really didn't matter. If you get a chance, check out O'Sheehan's. As for drinks, we purchased the soda package for about $7 or $8 per day per person, but that was only for my wife, daughter and I. Worked out nicely. The alcoholic beverages were a bit pricey, but one bar, I think it may have been Magnum's, had $7 tall beers. The entertainment on the cruise was spectacular. We saw stand up comedy, magic, old time standards and even a show where acrobats dropped from the ceiling. Bingo was fun, but Deal or No Deal was a bust, sorry Norwegian. The cards that are sold for $20 don't match up often. A bonus with the BINGO is allowing the kids to play for free, but I don't think they should play for the main prize. Because it was Spring Break, the pool was almost always crowded during the day, but we never had a problem getting chairs poolside. Overall, we had a fantastic time. It was so much fun that we have already started planning our next cruise. It was recommended that we check out other cruise lines, so we are checking out Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Carnival. Can't wait to see how they compare. Read Less

Embarkation was a long, slow process even though we were there an hour early. Waited in line almost three hours. Definitely bring food, water, etc. and maybe something that you can sit on while you wait. Departure was delayed due to some mechanical issues. It was interesting though to watch the underwater dive team/welders! Our steward was fantastic and our room was very comfortable. Costa Maya - Chochaban ruins are definitely worth the trip (great tour guide Gerarro) however the package that includes the buffet lunch and open bar is not. The buffet was open to all Jade passengers that were in Costa Maya, not just those on our excursion. The food was poor quality and of minimal selection. Again, lines, and without ice for drinks, the types of beverages offered were limited. The presence of the Mexican police was a bit disconcerting, but it did seem to quiet down some of the spring-breakers who were drunk and being obnoxious at lunch time. The beach area was small and not very enjoyable with other passengers stumbling over the chairs, getting sick, and vomiting next to you. Never did get near the pool unfortunately due to the continuous spring break party being held on the 12th deck and staff did absolutely nothing to try to accommodate those over college age. The staff at the spa were very nice, very professional. It was a welcome respite from the loud music and overall chaotic atmosphere. Disembarkation- arrived 45 minutes early and took our own bags which seemed to work fairly well. We were back in our vehicle within 1 1/2 hours, despite being interrogated by customs officials. Disappointed in the cruise and don't think we will sail NCL again. Read Less

We planned our trip in the middle of October 2015. Since then I read reviews weekly and was a bit nervous, but honestly, if you are like me and read review after review, please remember that what some people complain about may not mean anything to your trip. My boyfriend and I took this trip and we had the time of our lives! All of the staff were awesome! By the end of the first hour that we were on the ship a bartender who served my boyfriend once knew him by name and greeted him at another area on the ship. They really care for all of the passenger and want to make your trip as memorable as possible! Our room attendant, Roma, was awesome as well. He greeted us by name every time he saw us in the hallways and always had our room cleaned and turned down before we went to bed every night. We saw him interacting with kids on the ship and he was so patient and kind to them. We had the unlimited beverage package and we are so glad we did. We never had to wait more than 3-5 minutes for a drink and we didn't encounter any beverages that we not included besides the few specialty coffee drinks my boyfriend ordered. We only had one excursion planned- It was a dune buggy excursion in Cozumel. We ended up being the only two in the whole excursion and were afraid that they would cancel but we ended up basically getting a private excursion and it was awesome! We did not book through the ship we ended up booking through trip advisor. Our guide, Omar, made sure that we were doing everything we wanted and that we made it back to the ship on time. Since we didn't have an exucrison planned for Belize we hoped to get some shopping done and explore the city on our own. The port area is a tourist trap and you really cant get out of it unless you have an excursion planned. Since we had to wait about an hour to get on the tender, we were late for all of the excursions besides going to Kumbacha Beach (Old Belize) so that's what we ended up doing. We did get a city tour on the way there and it was awesome. I expected something very different than what Belize City is. Old Belize was ok. The restaurant isn't worth going to. We didn't get a server for about 15 minutes and they food was just ok. Overall its a fine excursion if you are looking to relax in a beach chair. Also, be aware of you who book through as the guy who dropped us off never came back to pick us up we had to pay someone else to bring us back. Honduras was my favourite stop. Again we didn't have an excursion planned but we did decided to find something right away. We ended up going to West Beach. Our tour guide, Courtney, was super accommodating allowing us to stop at a gas station on our way. He always agreed to pick us up whenever we wanted. We ended up renting snorkel gear because there are several reefs you can snorkel on your own. It was so much fun. We then ate lunch at the paradise AQUA restaurant and had the seafood platter. All fresh yummy seafood! Absolutely the best food we had the whole trip. Courtney then came and found us around the time we were wanting to leave and took us back giving us a small tour. Our favourite spot on the ship was the garden café on the back of the boat. It wasn't very windy and was the perfect spot to watch the sunset each night or to enjoy breakfast in the mornings. Alizar was our spot for dinner every night the food was amazing! I highly recommend the French Onion Soup. The entertainment on the ship was awesome as well. DO NOT MISS SOULDUO!! You will be sorry if you do. The juggling comedian was funny too. We did not attend any of the parties because they were too late. We are in our mid 20's and a full day in the sun doesn't make for staying out late easy. We would check into our cabins around 10 pm every night and watch whatever movie was on. Read Less

Overall, our 1st bi-annual multi-generational family cruise was a really awesome trip. Here's my review-in the simplest possible frame of mind: 1) the cabins-midship, 10th floor, 2 inside & 1 balcony staterooms-all BIG for a cruiseship. Magnificent! Comfortable! Great beds-Great Bedding! Everything you bring will fit. but bring extra hangars and magnetic hooks for stuff. Very rare awareness of sea motion. 2) the food (remember, Norwegian offers the "Freestyle" plan) no pre-scheduled dining times unless you choose to make reservations. ) This worked out beautifully for our variety of ages and appetites. We ate full service dinners twice in the Alazar and breakfasted once in the Grand Pacific--'they were all well-prepared and served. The only unpleasant meal we had was in the Jasmine Asian restaurant. We were given a 30 minute quote for a wait, but they beeped l us after 8 minutes. (Not a complaint-just an observation). Everything we ordered was awful. Especially the service! And most items tasted as if they'd been frozen - then - microwaved. 3) the entertainment-we enjoyed everything we saw-especially (and surprisingly) the juggling. I think our expectations were too high for Elements-basically a poor-man's cirque-de-soliel. 4) spa-adequate; regretted purchasing the thermal suite pkg because we spent most of our downtime out on our balcony-would have made better use of it as just a day-pass. 5) the only other negative we have to share is-we will not take another cruise which requires tendering -- uncomfortably crowded and a major waste of our precious island time! 6) workout facility-adequate, good machines. 7) bars-great! 8) excursion-Cozumel is like an old friend, Belize is just okay (too much tender!) Roatan is spectacular!! Read Less

The dining and excursions were fantastic. Dolphins, sharks, rays, and monkeys - oh my. Jade itself is a bit outdated. It was originally built for Hawaii use and has tacky Polynesian decorations only applicable when traveling there. Having stayed in the Haven on other bigger boats, this class was less worth-while. No dedicated bar/lounge or dinner restaurant. Our Concierge (Omar) did a wonderful job making up for these short comings outside of the haven courtyard, but the lack of staffing and priority in the courtyard meant long waits for meals by the pool or drinks on either floor. We typically only had one steward for all this and it is simply not possible as he had to leave the haven and go to another floor for everything. Entertainment was acceptable for a smaller vessel, but pales in comparison to larger ships like breakaway and Epic (Blue man group, cirque, and second city). The Houston terminal (which they are scheduled to stop using) was clean, modern, and quick. For parents out there - the main teen programs start at 11PM, so be ready for late nights. Read Less

We have cruised a different cruise line the last 5 years and decided to try Norwegian this year. We booked the Owners Suite with Haven perks. We were in the white Diamond Suite 9504. We were amazed with all the perks this offers. Not only do you get to have priority boarding, you have priority all over the ship! Not only do you get a concierge but also a butler and the usual steward. All of whom were amazing: Omar (concierge), Charlie (butler) and Menzi (steward). We cannot say enough great things about these 3 men!! They definitely made our vacation easier and more enjoyable!! The shows were great! The old cruise line's shows were getting old. Plus, on the Jade we had VIP seating. How cool was that!! The food was good, the buffet set up was a little hectic. We missed the layout of the other cruise line. The specialty dining was great! Definitely try Teppanyaki!! Enjoyable and delicious! We felt like we were inside more on this ship, but maybe that was due to its size (a smaller ship than used to)? We had a great time at the ports and felt they were comparable to what we've done in the past. All in all, we had a great time and will be back on Norwegian. Just may try a different, bigger ship. My husband and I LOVE Norwegian. We have sailed on the Norwegian Dawn and the Norwegian Getaway before. We've always had a wonderful experience and impeccable service. The Jade just didn't have it together on this cruise. Our cabin steward dropped the ball completely. There was no Latitudes Reward service from her at all. A second cabin steward was assigned two days into our cruise, probably because someone else complained, I'm guessing. On every Norwegaian cruise, we've had exceptional wait staff at the pool and in the dining rooms. Our waitstaff normally knows us by name and anticipates our needs and choices, not so on the Jade. I had good service from Baby, yes that was her real name, in Alizar. The bartender from Romania is great in the whiskey bar near Le Bistro. The guy in the garden cafe who was in charge of "washy washy " duties was upbeat and wonderful. Otherwise, the service was very sub-par. If this had been my first experience with Norwegian, I probably would not have sailed the cruise line again. There were not enough tenders in Belize, and there was a LONG delay for passengers to get off the ship. Many people were worried about making it to their excursions. In Roatan, we had to tender, yet again. ( In three previous trips to Roatan, we've always docked at the pier. The Dawn was in port, and they had precedence over our ship. This little ship looks tired, and its staff does not seem to know that they are in the service industry. We are great tippers, and we always more than compensate with each drink and meal. At the end of the cruise, we always give extra to the staff that takes care of us. We had three staff that truly deserved this extra compensation. My advice, pick another ship. You will have so much better of a time. There are very few entertainment options on this ship compared to the others. The service will be better. Your fellow cruisers will be better. (Strangely concentrated percentage of cruisers from a couple of states.) I will not sail the Jade again. I will sail Norwegain again, however. Read Less

This was our 1st cruise to the Western Caribbean, our 1st time leaving out of Port of Houston, and our 2nd ever cruise on NCL (10 years ago). Cons The embarkation process was not a great start to the trip. We stood in line to check in for over an hour. Of the other 10 or so cruises we have been on, we have never experienced a line like this, nor have ever waited in line for more than 15 minutes. The tender process for Belize and Roatan was a nightmare never experienced before. People began lining up almost an hour prior, just to receive tender tickets. Once tendering began, there were very few boats being used for the process, ticket numbers were being called very slowly. In Belize, we waited patiently for our tender number to be called, however the next day in Roatan, we said screw it and sneaked our way on a much earlier tender. *****Trick is to take the stairs to the tender deck 4, Not the elevator, you will come to the tender ticket check point at deck 5 staircase, hide your tender tickets, and say you are meeting family in their cabin on deck 4, they will let you pass to go to the next deck down, blend in with everyone else in line. This saved us about another hour and a half of waiting for our tender. Again, never experienced this much hassle to tender, a major turnoff. The food was very sub-par. We never ate in any of the specialty additional cost locations, many of the times we have in the past we were not impressed for the quality we got for the price we paid. We have always found the food in the regular dining rooms to be just as good if not better. We ate one night in Alizar, the food was very bland with no flavor. The same was for Jasmine. On 2 nights we ate at the Grand Pacific main dining room and the food here was much better than our other experiences on the ship. Buffet for breakfast was standard, however for dinner, it was not very good. Many buffet items were either under-cooked or over-cooked. The ship felt very over crowded, especially in the public rooms and by the pool. Many of the other lines we have been on did not feel this way. Ordering drinks was a hassle as well. We had the UBP however there are hardly any drink servers walking around the lounges and pool, you are forced to go to the bar and wait in a long line since there were only ever 1-2 bartenders working at a very slow pace. Staff was not as friendly and knowledgable as I have experienced on other ships. The casino dealers did not seem too familiar with some of the table games or payouts for wins. The positives The entertainment was great. We went to a few of the shows and thought they were fantastic. The comedian was great, and the production show Elements was incredible and worth the hype. On night 1 we discovered a guitar/singer in the Magnums bar named Carlos, he was the most amazing musician we have seen on a cruise. He was instantly a crowd favorite and the lounge was packed every night to hear him perform. I highly recommend the Magnums Lounge with Carlos performing nightly. The kids club for our daughter was fantastic. She had a lot of fun with the different theme night and the kids club staff was very energetic, outgoing and wonderful. Overall, we made the best of the trip, cruising is cruising so who can complain being at sea with sunshine and creating memories. Based upon this experience however, we will probably not repeat with Norwegian and stick mainly to Princess. Read Less

The cruise on the Norwegian Jade was the best cruise I have taken so far. I was slightly skeptical before boarding the ship because some of the reviews were shaky. The embarkation process was very smooth, and very fast. We boarded the ship without any obstacle. The food on the ship was outstanding. Some restaurants were better than others. I would recommend Le Bistro for a fabulous cuisine, and Teppanyaki was outstanding for a presentation while dining. The number of specialty restaurants was remarkable. You could eat french, brazilian, italian, japanese, chinese, sushi and steakhouse. Of course, on nights you don't want to pay for specialty dining, the food at the complementary Grand Pacific dining room is also delicious. You can also eat at the Alomar dining room for free, but it is more cramped and noisy. The cruise staff made the days exciting with awesome shows in the Starsust Theater, and game shows that are sure to entertain the family. The days at sea were not boring at all. Our cabin steward was extremely friendly. He greeted me by my name, and showed outstanding work ethic and customer service. Overall, the ship was beautiful, and very clean. People complained that it was woenough out, but it was in great shape. The Jade was as good as new. I have been on 3 other cruises, and Norwegian sold me. This was the best cruise I have been on by far. I will stick with Norwegian, and I am part of the Norwegian family. Read Less

We traveled in a group of 15 with the youngest being 10 and the oldest 70. We had balcony rooms and had an amazing time. My only complaint is that the common areas were too small in places such as the Medusa or the Atrium. The theater is gorgeous and the shows were spectacular. Elements is NOT to be missed. We've seen a lot of Broadway shows and halfway through Elements, we were all looking at each other saying, "I can't believe we are seeing this on a cruise ship!" Also, comedian David Naster is top notch if you are lucky enough to have a sailing that includes him. We did not eat in any specialty restaurants although some in our party chose to do so. They enjoyed it. The rest of us opted for the Grand Pacific nearly every evening and it was wonderful. We enjoyed our Ultimate Beverage Packages for the adults and soda packages for the kids. Pepsi products were a bit of a bummer as the kids really missed Dr. Pepper. They aren't allowed sodas at home and had been looking forward to unlimited DP on the ship. Spinnakers was a great place to hang out when it was too windy to be by the pool. Our cruise staff had a ton of fun games to play while we were at sea. I do wish there was more for the teenagers and was disappointed in no teen dance club as I've seen on other ships. Family karaoke ended at 8:30 so if you wanted to go to a 7:30 show after dinner, there was never an opportunity for the kids to sing. My sixteen year old wanted more dance classes offered. The Rat Pack show in Spinnakers was awesome. Overall, this was an amazing trip. We highly recommend the following excursions: Dune Buggy Beach and Snorkel in Cozumel (I've done this multiple times and it's different every time) Gumbalimba Preserve in Roatan because the kids love holding the monkeys Read Less

We just disembarked the Norwegian Jade. We enjoyed a 7 day cruise from Houston to Cozumel, Belize and Roatan. This is our second Norwegian Cruise. Our daughters, ages 10 & 14, were eager to participate in the Kids/Teen Club and engaged in as many Kids Club/Teen Club activities as they could fit into our schedule. When we sailed on the Norwegian Dawn two years ago, we stayed in a stateroom with a picture window. Our three daughters stayed in the stateroom across the hall from our room. Our oldest daughter was 19 and stayed with our younger daughters across the hall. Our picture window stateroom was very comfortable for the two of us and our girls were very comfortable in their inside stateroom with bunkbeds. This year, we stayed in a stateroom on the 11th floor with a Balcony. We comfortably fit 4 of us in the stateroom. Our cabin steward was very attentive and kept our room well stocked and tidy twice a day. He quickly learned all of our names and greeted us daily with a warm smile and conversation. We did not purchase the drinks package. We averaged about two cocktails each day, so the drinks package would not have been necessary for us. We ate at all of the main dining rooms on the Jade. We enjoyed each of the restaurants. On Day 2 of the cruise, our 14 year old was nauseated from the “rough seas.” She sat down with us, but did not want to eat. When I explained to our waiter that she was not feeling very good, he took it upon himself to bring her a cut up apple and gave her suggestions on what she could do to help alleviate her discomfort. The Norwegian Jade has a fabulous “Quiet Zone” tanning deck with plenty of available seating/lounge chairs at the front of the ship. The area is away from the pool, music and food, but it was perfect for quiet relaxation and provided a beautiful view of the Gulf of Mexico…just my style. Since we sailed during Spring Break in March, the ship was at full capacity. There were plenty of college students on board. We coexisted just fine…they were reasonably respectful and polite. The entire crew did a fantastic job meeting our needs and making a point of interacting with all of us…from our Cabin Steward, to the Excursion staff to the buffet servers and bussers to the bar tenders and wait staff. The shows were great and very entertaining. We especially enjoyed the Elements Show and the comedian. The magician was fabulous too. We had to tender off the ship in Belize and Roatan. There were several negative comments regarding the long lines waiting for tender boats so they could go on their scheduled excursions. We did not have an issue with the lines, however, we are early risers and made sure we arrived 15 minutes early to tender off the ship. We also tendered back to the ship earlier, so the lines did not affect us. We were able to participate in our excursions and see as much as we wanted to see in the short amount of time we were in each port. Our cruise from Boston to Bermuda on the Dawn (June 2014) was pretty amazing. We were in port for three days, which allowed us a lot more freedom to explore Bermuda at our own pace. We were able to dock right in Bermuda, so tendering was not necessary. Bermuda is a very friendly, safe island. We took full advantage of the bus passes, which included the water taxi service. We enjoyed the local restaurants in Bermuda and asked the locals for recommendations for quieter beaches, away from the crowds. We left the ship early in the morning and stayed in Bermuda as late as the last bus/water taxi ran to port. Norwegian Cruise Line does a fantastic job making memorable vacations. Our family highly recommends NCL for your family’s next cruise. If college age kids scare you, I would suggest you stay away from Spring Break time…but the crew of NCL will accommodate your freestyling cruising needs regardless of when you go. Read Less
