We have never been to Europe and my husband and I have been saving for a while to take a nice trip to celebrate our 10th anniversary. So we decided to do a 10 days Mediterranean cruise. Santorini was a must and we were looking for cruise lines that had this destination in their itinerary. In our budget, I was able to find 2 cruise lines, NCL and Royal Caribbean. We went with NCL because the ship was refurbished recently and the promotions included the drink and specialty restaurant package also excursion credits and the internet package. Nice deal if you book a suite (that came with a concierge and butler services). So our itinerary included the Greek Islands, Malta and a few cities in Italy. We travelled with our 2 kids and we were treated like royalty form the moment of arrival to disembarkation. We arrived to the port at 10:30 am. Our concierge Bruno came and accompanied us to the ship. By 11:30 am we were on the boat sipping a glass of champagne and having lunch in one of the specialty restaurants. The ship was beautiful and our room was ready by 1:00 pm and what a room! We had a forward penthouse suite with large balcony (cabin 10000). A very large room that was perfect for us and our Kids (6 and 7 years old) in its category cabin 10000 and cabin 10500 were the largest. 2 cold bottles of champagne were waiting for us as well as chocolate treats… felt like royalty! Every morning with our coffee (from the Nespresso machine in our cabin) we saw the ship arrive at different ports. We had the best view on the ship and every evening with a glass of white wine, we said goodbye from our balcony to every city we visited. After reading some comments about not being able to use the balconies in the front of the ship due to strong winds, I was a little worried but their was no issue at all. We used our balcony every day (sea days and port days)... I guess we were lucky! We saw two amazing shows and enjoyed the entertainment in different bars on the ship. The ship is tailored more for adults than kids but still our kids enjoyed their time at the pool, basketball court and a few hours in the splash academy. Food was good. We ate at the main dinning restaurant The Grand Pacific and the buffet few times. We were mostly impressed by the Japanese restaurant, The Bistro and the Italian restaurant. One area that NCL can improve on is the Kids menu. 10 days of eating the same things (hot dogs, pizza, mac and cheese and chicken nuggets) becomes a little repetitive. They can add healthier choices. In the Grand Pacific, we ended up ordering for the kids from the regular menu. We booked all our excursions with NCL. Bruno our concierge made it so easy for us to disembark and accompanied us to our tour guide and bus. With 2 kids, we appreciated not waiting the long lines to disembark and we learned a lot about each port. We did not use our butler’s services but appreciated the snacks, the sweets and the fruit baskets that were delivered to our cabin every afternoon. Our steward did an amazing job keeping our room nice and clean no matter when we got back to it. Disembarkation was a smooth ride as well. Our concierge again accompanied us to our driver to go back to the airport. We loved the VIP treatment and the pampering. It will be difficult to go back to a regular balcony cabin (cannot afford suites every time! Lol) Read Less

We wanted to visit the Greek Isles and Italy and chose this cruise as the most economical way to go about it. While the itinerary was packed with exciting destinations and fun places to explore, the on board experience was lacking—significantly. With the exception of a hand full of crew members (yes out of over 1,000+ staff), the service was sub par—with the majority of the staff seemingly unhappy and quite rude. If you plan to cruise with teens as we did, don't think you will get any good entertainment on the ship. The "Entourage" teen program is boring and unstructured and other than the 2 small pools, ONE ping pong table (which was never available), shuffleboard, a very small and dated arcade, and a seemingly great basketball court (that you were not able to play on after 5:30 PM because it was directly over a restaurant, which meant on this itinerary, my kids could never use it since we were off ship practically every day)... the entertainment was TERRIBLE. The cruise director was a joke. His cocky attitude and off-color commentary lacked professionalism and hospitality. While the food was overall very good, the service was not worthy of ever recommending this cruise or line to anyone. My parents, who are frequent cruisers and don't complain, were shocked at how unfriendly and lacking in service this cruise was. ** LACK OF SAFETY ** We were using the cabin hairdryer, and sparks began to fly out and we were horrified, dialed 911 and they said "we'll send someone up right away" and NEVER came. When we called back 10 minutes later, same response. After 45 minutes and no electricity, they claimed they didn't come in because the "do not disturb sign was on the door." I was fascinated. An actual fire on the ship and NOBODY came to help. As if someone would change their door sign during an emergency situation! If you're ready to be nickel and dimed and receive POOR service in the process, this is the cruise for you. Otherwise, Royal Caribbean seems like a better option for a cruiser. Read Less

We have cruised four times before on a different cruise line. We chose this particular cruise with Norwegian due to the amazing itinerary in the Mediterranean. We arrived in Rome four days before our cruise and had time to explore all the tourist spots and get acclimated to the time zone. We had six of us and decided to book the 2-Bedroom Family Suite because it was not much more than two separate balcony rooms and the amenities were much better, and I'm so glad we did. Our initial embarkation was so smooth, and we were whisked to the VIP area while we waited to board the ship. We met our concierge (Bruno) and butler (Leo), both of whom could not have been nicer or more accommodating, and we were escorted onto the ship to our private dining room for suite holders (at Cagney's) for lunch. The quality of that meal was above average, but nothing extraordinary or special, and unfortunately, the lunch menu at that restaurant did not change for eleven days. Once we finished our meal, we found our suite, which was incredible. The master bedroom/bathroom was spacious with lots of storage, and we were able to fit both my sons' hanging clothes in the closet with ours. The master bed was king-size and very comfortable. My teen boys slept in the living room, where the sofa converted to a queen bed, which was as comfortable as expected. My college-aged daughter and her best friend stayed in the second bedroom, which is basically an interior room with a couch that converts to a full bed and a pull-down bed, both of which were not as comfortable. The second bathroom was more spacious than expected. The best part of the suite, other than the master bathroom shower and tub that overlooked the ocean, was the level of service from our concierge, butler, and housekeeper. All three of them made sure our room was clean, ready, we had afternoon snacks, and that getting on and off the ship was quick and painless. The worst part of our particular suite was that it is located right beneath the gym, and apparently people enjoy running on the treadmill very early and very late. While the accommodations and suite service were wonderful, many other parts of the cruise were not so wonderful. My husband and I had the premium beverage package, and there was quite a variety of wines and beers, but the mixed drinks were usually disappointing if not horrible. We also had four nights of specialty dining, which we were incredibly grateful for, since all of the complimentary dining places we visited were not great. Most of the food was comparable to Applebee's or Chili's. We usually ate breakfast and lunch in the suite-holder's dining areas, but as stated, the menu was exactly the same every day. The specialty restaurants we visited were all good - La Cucina, Le Bistro, Moderno, and Cagney's - with the best being Cagney's and Le Bistro. The service in the specialty restaurants was great, but the service in the complimentary restaurants and bar areas was not very consistent. We were very surprised that there were not bar staff roaming the pool decks and other open areas for drink orders. The entertainment on board was generally superior quality to the other cruise line we have experienced, with the musicians stealing the show. The acrobats were also stellar. The magician was cheesy, however. I wish we had seen the comedian and some of the other entertainment, but we were honestly exhausted by all of our excursions at each port. We did not try our luck at the casino, but did hang out by the pool a few times, which was always crowded and busy. We enjoyed karaoke one night, and the college kids went dancing a few times, but the cruise was mostly about the ports for us. We all experienced the spa, which was very expensive for the quality. The boys got excellent haircuts at the salon for a reasonable price, however. Most of our excursions were booked outside of Norwegian, but as suite holders, we were always able to get off our ship in time. The two excursions we booked with Norwegian were excellent (Highlights of Rhodes and Ultimate Florence and Pisa). In all, if we were booking another cruise and wanted to experience a great cruise, we would likely choose a different cruise line. However, Norwegian has great itineraries and prices that the other cruise lines are not competing with in Europe especially, so it is possible we would choose Norwegian again for that reason. My family and i enjoyed every moment of this cruise from the ports of call, the great service we received and the best food we ever ate. we spent 2 days in rome first and was able to see all rome had to offer. then we got on the boat which took about 35 minutes from check in to our first meal. our first shore excursion time was 9:30 am when i made the reservation. it was changed to 8:00 and i was not aware of the change. when the staff saw how upset i was they contacted the shore excursion manager, dana, who went out of her way to get us on the same excursion with their sister ship at noon. the way they went above and beyond for my family will never be forgotten. for this reason alone i will only cruise norwegian. i can't thank them enough for the special attention i received to make it the best cruise for me and my family. One of the best things about free style dining is I was able to make a reservation for diner 1 hour after all my tours ended. Each day was a different time so going to a diner at the same time everyday would not have worked. And may I say we did not have one bad meal. Plenty to choose from and everything was great. This cruise started out in the hole due to substandard technology and inefficient customer service. Customer service has no capabilities of emailing you or calling you back. 15 phone calls and nearly 10 hours on hold was frustrating. This was necessary for correcting air tickets set up for the wrong day (eventually corrected), no access to e-docs (never fixed), misinformation received that warranted another phone call to hear a different story, Setting up drop off from excursion to a hotel that they had not booked us at, then finding out they hadn’t made a reservation at the hotel they had charged me for. I wound up having to make hotel and transportation plans and spending another $600 on the spot. After 2 more phone calls I found out that I would have to File a formal request for my refund and that would take 3 weeks for them to review and decide if they would refund my money. Seems like a long time for a company who required immediate payment for every new addition to the tour. While trying to get info from Customer relations on the ship they would have to contact NCL in Miami and had no access to invoices prior to trip. The right had did not know what the left hand had done. However, the food, ship, excursions and atmosphere was great. Tour guides for the tours were exceptional in their knowledge of the venues and locales. So in spite of NCL and their concerted effort to screw this trip up, we had a good time. NOTE: Service by food staff and housekeeping was excellent. The customer service staff were ineffective and I believe that is because of the misinformation they were given. I was given 3 different responses to the same problem by 3 different staff members. Plus shore excursion and customer service staff bounced clients back and forth in the hopes the other knew what was going on. Read Less

Jasmine restaurant was excellent! Loved the people that engaged in the dancing activities and the shows were great! The food in the Garden Cafe was Excellent !!!! Loved the White party and the mood on the ship all the time. The ship was always clean, the casino was a lot of fun. The drinks were pricey, but I guess that is part of the business. I do recommend this cruise to people. Wish my son, who is 12, could have participated in the teen activities. Being with the little kids was embarrassing for him. Luckily, he enjoyed the game room. That was a great help. Also, should have more options for late night snacking. Should not have to go to a sit down dinner. Read Less

Choose this ship for time and intenerary. We had a great time so the following a some good, tips and some not so good. Biggest compliant is embarkation -HORRIFIC at best. NEVER take the train from Rome, it is a disaster we were on a commuter train and when we got out we had to walk up and down stairs and down the walkway in the hot sun. The bus that takes you to the terminal did not show up for a good 40 minutes, honestly get some signage and get it together Norwegian, there have been enough complaints that you should get signage. The same is true in Naples we were docked at a shipping terminal and not the main terminal sketchy and not easy to get back to. Also, it is offensive in Loverno that Norwegian docks in terminals that are not in the main area and than charges $5 euro by outside vendor to get you out of the port if your not on a Norwegian tour. really..... Disembarkation was good. Room - we had a balcony mid ship for 4. We have been on over 19 cruises with a variety of cruise lines included Norwegian, yet I have never seen such a poorly designed room. The bed that is a bunk is right by the balcony, so when the lower and upper beds are made you cannot access the balcony without crawling across the lower bunk and trying not to hit your head. Idiotic design at best, it really limited the enjoyment of the balcony as generally it is nice to sit out at night but with kids sleeping you cannot access. Also the lack of desk space and storage made this a terrible terrible cabin. The bathroom on the other hand was large with separate toilet and shower. Good thing we were so busy during the day we only slept in our cabin, but frankly would have been cheaper just to get a window, so beware if you are a family of four, don't bother with a balcony! Service and food - we found both to be good. First night we went to dining room, waited forever and felt like we were in somebody's basement, service was slow and food not great. We never went back and ate mostly at buffet or Cagney's. The bar service at pool was super and delicious drinks as well as the food at Cagney's was consistent and the bar there was great. The buffet was always clean and well stocked with many selections. Also, there is a sign at the water station saying use a clean cup to refill your water bottle please to this, I saw many people filling their water bottles and stopped them, gross people are just so self absorbed so please pay attention. Ports- we liked them all except Crete, what's the point???? it is ok if you want to get off and go the grocery store across the port but other than that since we were only there 3 hours seems pointless. People who did get off did not think it was worth it, it is basically a sea day. Also Naples was great we did a food walking tour with Viatours which was awesome but getting back to the ship was a disaster. We did our own tours in each town we found them significantly cheaper and liked having a personal guide, the kids enjoyed the experience so much better than large group tours as you can do what you like. Entertainment - Not great but we were so tired we did not go for the shows. The musicians were great except for a terrible rock band (blondes) I believe they were called, so loud and terrible, clearly must have been related to a member of the entertainment staff. Also, I cannot understand how the atrium hosts a starbucks and no bar. The singers down there always had a poor audience as not much people drink coffee and night to listen to music, such an odd choice for an atrium, waste of space. Shops on board were not great and no activities for teens but the teen club which was taken over by a roving gang of obnoxious teens. Internet is grossly overpriced and very poor quality, this was also true of the Norwegian Getaway in the Baltics. Save your money and use the free wifi that is available everywhere in port. I would recommend this ship to those who like smaller ships and great stops, but the ship has no bells and whistles and that was ok for us. Read Less

We hgad an amazing trip on NCL Jade 30th June. We originally booked IX cabin and got allocated 1E deck 4 midship almost immediately/8 months out. Price drop at 90 days we were offered oceanview or $ back. We took the $ and then bid on upgrade. Our friends were successful at 60 days and got B1 aft. We got the sorry no upgrade 48 hours before we departed Rome. We were really happy with our inside on 4 and it was so easy to get off at our 9 ports. The ship and crew were amazing. Some people can be rude, but we find it we interact with them, ask them about themselves and their family it makes it really enjoyable. The food was good, the entertainment was great and we did not have any issues at all. Embarkation was so easy. We arrived at 11am after a Cabs Roma shared shuttle. We were on the ship by 11.20am and were able to leave our hand luggage in cabin and meet our cabin steward. Bags did not arrive until around 5pm which was ok so take what you need for the afternoon. My Daughter 14 had a great time at Entourage 13-17yrs. She met some great friends. The family we travelled with had a 12yr 9 month old and she was not able to join them. They are really strict with age 13 or have to turn 13 during the cruise. Disembarking was a breeze. We chose 8.30 which meant luggage had to be out 11pm night before, -we had breakfast, walked off, collected luggage in 10 mins and was on our shared shuttle with NCC airport at 9am on the way to airport. We love the med cruises and wanted to cruise again with the Jade after her dry dock. The ship is in excellent conditions and the refurbishment shows its effects. The Atrium is just gorgeous. The speciality restaurants are very good and we loved the new location of the Moderno, serving excellent meat as in Brazil. Service allover is perfect . We were a little bit disappointed with the quality of the buffet and thought it was much better in the past. Breakfast service in the Great Outdoors should be improved to match the other parts: empty milk cans every morning,1 day toaster not working, another day one coffee machine down. Improvement needed on: - the mineral water which is not a true -mineral- water and is therefore way too expensive - reservations management of the specialty restaurants; they say full but often empty tables during a long period of time - wifi performance: sometimes very poor even at night when everybody sleeps ! Great entertainment almost every evening, excellent shows. Don't miss the show on the penultimate evening. Shore excursions: we took 2 tours organized with NCL and we were glad we had private arrangements in the other ports: expensive compared to renting a chauffeur-driven vehicle, local operators not always under control, huge delay in Livorno which made us missed a spa arrangement. Embarkation in Civitavecchia: ok according to the circumstances; NCL does its best to cope with the poor local facilities. we had to wait for more than 1 hour with some fellow cruisers for a shuttle at the official bus stop Molo Dei Bicchiere ( no NCL local number to call) Disembarkation: quick and well-organized. Great ports and length. The Room was amazing! perfect size. We reserved a mini suite with balcony 11th floor ( i think it was termed a mini suite). We have 4 in the room, 2 parents and 2 teens. plenty of space, awesome beds and storage. great balcony. Bathroom is amazing for a cruise ship! extra sliding door in bathroom helped with teens. The room divide was so helpful!! Loved the Great outdoors and all the specialty dining, loved the Pub too!! Great spa area, we added thermal bath passes which were perfect after long excursions. Would have liked the older teen room to be open better hours. The teens activities were all closed 7-9 and had activities too late for my teens ( 15 and 16). They would have liked more activities but with long amazing port excursions they dont stay up late. most teen activities were way too late. amazing staff. love starbucks on board. wish it was a full starbucks that took starbucks app like some cruise ships do, but the barista was a joy every day ( BingQing Xia). amazingly easy getting on board . we had carry ons so that was a bit confusing getting on board, but it was still a breeze. getting off a breeze. i would rather have more inclusive pricing, wifi, alcohol, soda package etc.... that would make a better experience. The excursion and dining reservation system is less than stellar ( disney has dining reservations and activity reservations in their app that is the way to go) , the app was great for texting but should have been able to make dining reservations in the app. the online reservation system prior to boarding was also not stellar. Whilst the ship was ok, the staff were simply doing their job and no more, with the exception of the Steward and the Washy-Washy Ladies. Food was ok but no more. Bar staff seemed to not really care. Choice of drinks was ok, again, but no more, especially non-alcoholic versions of cocktails. The main desk staff were pretty hopeless and the WiFi non-existent. The worst thing really were the massively over-priced shore excursions. One trip to Athens included a disgusting 1970-style lunch and a wasted afternoon with a politically motivated courier under the guise of a Scenic coast. Shame because the cost and content of most of these excursions spoiled things. If you weren’t on a trip, they didn’t seem to care how to got about. The entire aim of the ship was really to extract dollars from your pocket. A real let down from what we were expecting and nowhere near as good as other cruise lines we have used. Would I recommend? Definitely not unless you like a truly American atmosphere and are happy to pay way over the odds for everything. Nuff said. Read Less

We started off with 4 days in Rome then did a half day countryside tour on the way down to the port. Embarkation was very smooth - dropped of luggage and only about 3 groups ahead of us in line. Communication beforehand was excellent. Ship: We had been on the Jewel a decade ago which is a sister ship so many things were similar. The casino was quite large (and had one of the better bartenders). Layout was good and everything was well marked. Cabin: We were a group of 7 (2 couples and 3 teens) and had two adjoining mini-suites with nice balcony's (they no longer are able to open up the balcony adjoining door) Room was nice sized and even had a tub. We had configured as a double bed and then they turned the sofa into a bed each night for one of the teens. They no longer do towel animals so had to find online pictures for the teens. Dining: We were not able to make any specialty restaurant reservations for our group of 7 before hand and were not able to make them on the ship either and there were no walk ups available so didn't get to try any. We were disappointed with the Jasmine Cafe - everything was breaded in the same breading which should have been on country fried steak, not sweet and sour. The two main restaurants were good though the food options did not change much over the 10 days. We ended up having most meals at the buffet (especially since there were picky teenagers) Good selection with a few special items each day but again not much rotation over the ten days. I expected a chocolate buffet night but either it didn't happen or I missed it. Breakfast at the buffet was always the right option since we did so many excursions on this trip. We are much more spoiled foodies then the last NCL cruise so nothing was impressive but all was good. Entertainment: We missed all the shows (but did catch a few movies) was nice to have the bands as background at the various bars only Bliss was to loud to have a conversation. The teens tried out Entourage but were to introverted to give a second try. Both the library and the game room were nice spots to hang out. We tended to pool / hot tub in the evening and often missed towel service (which ended at 8pm) which was annoying (maybe we are supposed to check out at the beginning of trip and keep until end instead of just get when swimming) The hot tubs were never overcrowded and quite relaxing. Service was great (except at Alizar restaurant where there was always a long wait for us between ordering drinks and anything else - often having to flag someone down to send our server over multiple times before we got them. I did get one massage at the Spa after to many days walking my hip wasn't going to let me do any more - got a deep tissue massage and was able to walk much better the next day - did have some high pressure sales for product and their acupuncture doctor which was annoying. The shop had everything we needed that we ran out of or forgot - overpriced and why do we have to pay 20% service change when not a 'service' but otherwise fine. Ports - great ports - only one (Santorini) that we needed to tender at. We did six excersions and most were great. worst was Pompeii where the guide kept forgetting how many people she had and had to go back to get people all the time when the company called her. Best was Lucca and Pisa. Would have liked a port map in the daily communications but was able to use my phone map. Kids: 13, 16 and 17 they all had a good time - loved the buffet and being able to wander the ship on their own. I expected better access to soda for the soda packages (had to go up to a bar to get a soda) and there was no lemonade which disappointed one of them. Disembarkation was good - though I would have liked to have the schedule options ahead of time when planning my transportation, we would have been able to sleep in a bit later. I will take another Norwegian cruise again, though likely a different set of ports since seen these and the ones we want to return to for in-depth says we want more then a cruise stop. Read Less

It is an excellent cruise, very good size and distribution. The ship's staff is very attentive and always giving excellent service.  The cabin is wide, with a very good bathroom (bigger than the regular bathroom). The restaurants and the buffet are very good with lots of variety. It has several restaurants for at night, although without a doubt; the best is the Grand Pacific. Some restaurants do not have the possibility to make a reservation, then they give you a locator and you can walk around the boat while you wait for your turn (it does not work in the cabins / approximate time of waiting 30 minutes depending on the time). It has various activities throughout the day in different spaces. We did only 2 excursions with the cruise, and in general they were very good; but to the ports that we arrived without an excursion, we took some of those offered by other companies when we got off. The disembarkation in Civitavecchia (Rome) was somewhat congested and the buses were not enough for people to leave the port. Read Less

We (myself, my wife, our 2 children, and my wife's parents) decided to "do" Europe. We flew to London and made our way to Rome by way of Paris and Venice. Our ages ranged from 8 to 72. We've all sailed many times in the Caribbean, but never Europe. Embarkation at the pier was so easy. There was a line, but it moved quickly. We only had carry-on bags, so that helped. Disembarkation, usually a cluster, was also easy. We were a bit hesitant about the Jade -- she's a little older, she's not a megaship. I can tell you now, the Jade is amazing. Beautiful inside and out, clean, welcoming. The cabins are a very good size. We had an obstructed OV on Deck 8 and my in-laws had an interior across the hall. Both were the same size and we had plenty of room. The bathrooms are larger than on most ships we have sailed, and ours even had a separate WC. Dining was great. We ate in Alizar most evenings as it was closer to our cabins than Grand Pacific all the way aft. Alizar is a bit more casual, but the food is the same. We ate late every night (8:30 or 9:00), which is a change from all of our previous cruises, but we were in Europe. We dined in Cagney's one night and it was delicious (except for my potatoes au gratin which were ice cold). Another night we ate at Le Bistro (thank you American Express Platinum Travel); it, too, was wonderful. On mornings without really early port calls, we headed to Grand Pacific for breakfast, which were just typical NCL breakfasts. Let's talk about service. Our last NCL cruise, aboard the Breakaway at Thanksgiving 2018, left a sour taste due to the horrible service. On the Jade, NCL redeemed themselves. Service (bar, restaurant, cabin, room service) was always prompt and with a smile. We never had to wait more than 3 minutes to be served at a bar. Meals took just the right amount of time for us. Our cabins were touched at least twice and usually three times per day. Room service, especially breakfast, was on point and on time. This 10 day itinerary was very port-heavy. We had only 1 sea day, and I personally prefer a few more than that. Most of the ports were early, but we were back on board by late afternoon at most. In Santorini, we hung around for the sunset before boarding. In Crete, we had to be back before noon so we could speed off to Malta by 1pm the next day. We did not utilize any ship excursions as they all seemed limiting and over-priced. We managed to arrange private tours for the 6 of us in every port at reasonable prices (except Crete -- we walked off, found a bistro for breakfast, and got back on the ship). Our kids are 8 and 10. Both are experienced cruisers. My son feels he has outgrown the kids' club and only went once. My daughter, being a little social butterfly, wanted to go every evening. We've never had a problem with the kids' clubs on any ship we've been on, and the Jade was no exception. We would definitely go again, and I hope to do so! Read Less

I choose this cruise because of the awesome itinerary not because of the line. I’ve been on 25 cruises and 3 of those were Norwegian lines. The staff on this cruise were overall miserable, rude, perfunctory and disinterested. However let me add I met some incredible gems who were the highlight of the 11 days. I’m not the type that needs 24/7 pampering at all please believe me but most of the staff were just subpar. It seemed since the pre-paid gratuities came into effect service went in the toilet. My cabin steward I saw 3 times. Guest services were the worst. They honestly didn’t even try to fake being nice. I was upgraded a room and was placed under a public area and barely slept in 11 days. I asked several times to change my room and the manager said her manager would call me and they never did. I went to guest services no fewer than 5 times. The end of the cruise I asked to at least be credited the upgrade of $210 and they basically laughed. The food was the worst of any cruise I’d been on as well. I actually preferred the buffet over the dining room. The dining room had the same selections save one or two different every night. The silver lining was the waiter and ast waiter that we followed around the dining room because they were spectacular. This wasn’t my first rodeo but I’ll guarantee you it’s my last on Norwegian. We booked a 10 days holiday cruise from NYC to Bahamas & Bermuda in April. We stayed at the 11th Floor Mid Ship mini Suite on the Port side. Once the ship left the calm water, Squeaking sound appeared louder and louder inside our Cabin and outside vicinity. Making us wondered how structurely sound of this ship. The loud squeaking noise caused us to have bad sleep on our entire Cruise! The only peaceful night of sleep my family had was when the Jade docked at Bermuda for overnight! Our room Steward was friendly but lazy! He didn't put up the sofa bed in the upright position in the mornings after nighty use (do less work)! The suite countertops are not wiped regularly with dust lingering. The Grand Pacific Main Dinning Room staffs were aweful!! Multiple times, these Servers didn't even know our table numbers. Waiting to order foods after seatings took a long long time on mutiple occasions and received the wrong orders from other tables instead. They put up very fake smiles when talking to us. The Host of the Grand Pacific Dinning Room from India, appeared to lack leadership skills and poor supervision on his Server team. After the Jade went through a rough night before arriving to the first port of Cape Carnveral, The Ship Captain ( called himself as "the Old Man") made announcement about the 15 foot waves we encountered overnight. Should he had warned us, the passengers, about the rough sea expected ahead, the night before instead of talking about it after the fact?!? Read Less

This was our fourth cruise, first on Norwegian. Could not even come close to the quality of all other cruise ships we’ve been on. Our biggest complaint was the lack of food choices available on the ship. TWO restaurants had the exact same menus. What a waste. Food average. Never had shrimp cocktail, properly made Italian food choices. Desserts and appetizers good. Rooms were adequate, our room with a balcony was great (however, they never cleaned the balcony surround enclosure, hard to see out if you were seated. Bed was comfortable and our steward “Roberto” was the nicest employee on the ship. Everyone else on cruise was for the most part not friendly or helpful. If u asked a question about almost anything they didn’t know!! Or they just ignored you, They did not know what seltzer was! Really with all those bars on board! Did not keep after the public areas. Had to leave our coffee cups and glasses on tables cause there were no receptacles around to dispose of trash. Four hours after I left a glass, the same one was was still there, unbelievable! The places we visited were great, no problem there. Would we cruise the Jade again, never! Also, not nearly as beautiful as all other ships! Also could not hear any announcements in the staterooms, channel 24 on TV was supposed to have this service available as per cruise director. We had to argue with personnel on board to get lounge chairs they had tied so we could join other guests on deck. Deck Stewart claimed it was not his decision to untie and place those lounges! The cruise cost us a lot of money and we all felt we were not treated as well as other cruises have in the past. Read Less

Cruise left out of Brooklyn, NY to Fla, Bahamas, and Bermuda. Port of departure appealing as was the itinerary with 2 days in Bermuda. Since the ship arrived to NY around noon with no passengers and was not scheduled to depart till 10:30pm, this allowed for a nice stretched out embarkation process. The Brooklyn Cruise Terminal was fantastic, the employees seemed happy to see us and assist us, we breezed through security and right up to the check in window; 5 mins there and we were on the ship enjoying our vacation. Rooms were ready when we boarded, I won't go into every detail, but the cruise was enjoyable. No real WOW factors to speak of. A few slight issues with the Shore Excursion desk and the Photo department trying to charge me for things I did not want. Typical sales practice. I had an issue with the bathroom sink draining slowly, once this was brought up at customer service, was corrected within a few hours. Cabin Steward was fantastic; crew very friendly and helpful. Cruise Director I felt left quite a bit to be desired. Food was ok, decent choices in the buffet, Cagney's was delicious; LaCucina's menu was not desirable to our basic tastes. Theater Entertainment was ok, production cast numbers seemed high school quality in both production and talent. The music around the ship was ok, Dave McHugh the guitarist was the most entertaining. Port Canaveral, we took the Cocoa Beach shuttle, which we enjoyed, but feel the price could be lowered; the private island felt VERY crowded and only the Jade with 2400 passengers was there, I can't imagine what the island is like when the larger ships are in town, yikes. Nassau, just walked around downtown, and in Bermuda we visited the Bermuda Museum the first day and Harbor Nights in Hamilton that night. Harbor Nights was enjoyable, but pack your patience when taking the ferry, it gets very crowded, and there is only one entrance/exit, so it's a slow process getting off; the 2nd day in Bermuda both of our excursions were cancelled (one by me because I was not feeling well, and my wife's was cancelled due to mis-communications between the ship and vendor). But a lovely visit to Bermuda. Voyage was during the Easter/Spring Break, so there were 700+ children on board on a ship that does not offer a lot for kids (compared to other ships nowadays). So wasn't a huge issue, but I am not sure I would bring a child over 8 years old on this ship. The older ones were going a little stir crazy and raucous toward the end of the trip. We enjoy cruising, so we had a good time, but were not overwhelmed by any one factor. Bermuda was the highlight for us. Average cruise, sea days were quiet, crew were fantastic, entertainment average. I would do this itinerary again. Read Less

Before our cruise, I read a lot of reviews on the Norwegian Jade. I have only been on a couple cruises, so I am not as seasoned as many are. But from all the reviews that complain of cold food, or bad food, or lack of service, I was expecting a horrible experience. But I found that for the price I paid for the cruise it was a pretty solid experience. The food was fine, sort of like Golden Corral (for the Americans reading this). Not awesome, but not horrible. There were often repeat dishes in the restaurants, but there were so many it was easy to not repeat our meals. I enjoyed our ocean view room as well. I was not impressed with the entertainment in the Stardust theater. For a family cruise I thought much of the dancing was unnecessarily loaded with sexual overtones (why did the one dancer need to take her top off at the end of one of those numbers?) The people who performed were very talented, but I didn't find that the hype of the shows lived up to the reality. The guitarist, Dave McHugh, who played at various places on the ship, was easily the most popular consistent entertainer. You had to show up early for his events if you wanted a seat. Yes, the pool area was always packed on days at sea. If you didn't have a chair by 9 AM, you'd likely have to get lucky and find one when someone gave it up. It's kind of a bummer, but it's what I expected. All in all, I'd do it again for the price I paid (maybe just for the privilege of getting a mojito from Jimmy at the Sugarcane bar!). I loved how Norwegian was very conscious of germs, and always were waiting to spray our hands any time we entered the ship or a dining area. I'm not much of a night owl (and wasn't enjoying the Stardust entertainment), so I enjoyed the in-room movies on several evenings. I wished I'd brought some of my own on my laptop, as there weren't many movies, and they just rotated. I think we saw parts of one movie four different times, while some of the movies I would have liked to see were running in the daytime and never shown in the evenings. Read Less

Not too much to do, shop or to see. Because of that, I went to the Jacuzzi and sauna almost every day! Food was just ok, when you travel in the big ships you have too many options, here are so restricted, for example no real ice cream station, just the machine, just the vanilla and/or chocolate. Cagneys always its a must, the food was awesome, as always, and the service too. Le Bistro, always good, food was wonderful. La Cucina, below average: slowly, they didn't offered cheese!!! Cabin, Mini Suite, was sooo spacious and with tons of space (we were 4!). I loved the illuminated mirror! My son really enjoyed the bathtub. As I read in the boards, this time I requested an iron, and it was so helpful! The illusionist and his assistant show was super, my kids were in shock with the final number. We really enjoyed all the ports, we will loved if we can stayed more in Puerto Rico, we arrive late. And it would be nice to stop by in our way back to Miami a couple of hours in Great Stirrup Cay. We sailed on the Jade, which was our 3rd sailing on this ship. The first time, it had just come to TX from Asia. The service was less than desirable, and the ship needed refurbishing. The 2nd time we sailed on her was this past November, the unlucky sailing when it broke down and we were stuck in San Juan until we got flown back to Miami on a charter plane. They say the 3rd time is a charm, and it actually was for us as we had a great experience this time. The ship is very nice inside, with warm neutral colors replacing the very bold, bright colors of several years ago. The ship was always very clean, regardless of what part of the ship we were in. The service and friendliness of the crew was for the most part outstanding. We had wonderful service in the Alizar from Solange, and our room steward Vanessa was great. The food was good, however, the main dining room nightly menu seemed to not be as good as on other sailings we taken with NCL. Cagney's was good, as it always is. We also dined at Moderno, and the service was not as good as what we've experienced in the past. They were busy, however, we were short silverware and tongs, it took 10 minutes to get the sides brought to the table even though we'd already had 3 different meat selections offered. The bar service could be stepped up a bit, especially in the casino. Many times there were no servers to be found in the casino - even when they weren't busy. Many in the casino complained about the lack of service while playing at a machine. Some of them would just wander by - without asking or saying anything at all. The line at the Pit Stop at times was very long, and sometimes the servers working in that area were not friendly at all. With that being said, we did have very good service in both of those areas by 2 particular servers when they were working. Overall, it was a very nice trip. The entertainment was great, as it always is on NCL. Still love NCL, but really wish that they would step up in a few areas. The islands were beautiful, weather was great, and we met some really nice people! Read Less

We chose NCL because we had traveled on the Spirit a couple years ago and wanted to take our teenagers on a special trip over Spring Break. We had a total of six people - one mini-suite and one inside cabin. We opted to not do the specialty dining this cruise (as we didn't think the kids would fully appreciate it) and have our special offers consist of shore excursion credits. POSITIVE: Amazing entertainment/shows each evening. We were all so impressed! NEGATIVE: The smoking policy needs to change on NCL. The ENTIRE, and I mean ENTIRE, sixth floor was overwhelmed with cigarette odor because it is allowed in the casino and the doors were always open. Sometimes this spread through decks seven and five, as well. It was quite bad and an area through which we needed to walk to attend the shows. POSITIVE: Entourage Teens Club - lots of activities and the kids LOVED it. NEGATIVE: Groups of teenagers congregating on the stairs and other common areas when it was closed. Perhaps they can hang out in there during the day? POSITIVE: Steward attentiveness - he knew our names from the very first day! NEGATIVE: We'd never had a mini-suite. Other than the full bathtub, I'm not sure it should qualify for more than a balcony room. Also, we had reserved a mid-ship room and were clearly in the aft portion of the ship. Fortunately, none of my new cruisers got seasick. POSITIVE: The buffet had selections that changed daily and there was more variety than I remember on the last ship. NEGATIVE: The buffet was closed for up to 1 1/2 hours at a time and with our odd shore excursion arrival/departure times, we often arrived and weren't able to eat! While they told us to go to the Topsider's Grill, it also was closed at times. Yikes! NEGATIVE: The ice cream machine was broken off and on throughout the entire cruise! Major bummer for teenagers. POSITIVE: Most shore excursions. Really great experiences (mostly). NEGATIVE: Shore excursion in St. Lucia was TERRIBLE. In fairness, the shore excursion staff had warned us of problems but we booked it anyway. Unknown to us, they sent one of their staff incognito to check it out and tour with us. I didn't know this until I went to report our complaints with the tour. Also, note that they credited our accounts with 20% of our payment for our problems AND it appears they've removed that shore excursion from their list of availability! Read Less

This was our second time sailing on the Jade. It was an okay experience for us, but unfortunately, our experience with the photography studio and one employee, was so unpleasant that we won’t return. Its quite “scammy”. They say no sitting fee, but the photos will set you back $400 for ONE picture and as high as up to $3000. We were somewhat harassed prior to even boarding the ship by a photographer about booking a session and he proceeded to call us 3 times within an hour once we boarded the ship. We even joked about it feeling like a telemarketer. We finally booked a session with a different photographer, but when we went to purchase the photos ended up speaking with the original photographer we had met and he was VERY rude I think because we had booked with someone else? We went down to purchase our photos ($1899, which is ridiculous anyway) and ended up not purchasing any photographs because he was so rude to us and we just couldn’t believe we were about to spend that much money and he was speaking to us so poorly. Total disappointment and its a horrible memory from our cruise. After 11 years of cruising with NCL this is the first time we have ever gotten off a cruise with absolutely no photos at all. Save yourself some $, time and the risk of being treated poorly and just use the photographers around the ship and steer clear from the photography studio. Le Bistro was the best restaurant, with the best service. The painting classes are fun, but make sure you register early if you want to participate as they get filled up very quickly! Make all of your dining reservations prior to boarding or you will have a hard time making reservations once you're on board. There was a Neil Diamond tribute that was very good and a piano player who was also very talented. The children’s club was good and my children enjoyed going, but the program really never changes much so if you’re a frequent cruiser it gets boring. Unfortunately, be careful if you are a latitudes member. NCL does not do a good job at giving you things that you should be receiving. We had to ask for everything. We are Platinum Plus so we get little things like water bottles etc. we had to ask for them. We should have gotten chocolate covered strawberries which we never received. The photo discount does not apply to the photo studio (keep that in mind) it doesn’t state that ANyWHERE. Read Less

First time with Norwegian, we did only a dozen of cruises to date with different companies. Departure was Miami port, easy access 30 minutes from airport depending on trafic. Let get rid of the negative -Driest embarkation, not even a glass of water in the waiting hangar, no welcome cocktail on board. Be prepare to wait (in the sun) before embarkation, the security is close to the entrance queue overflow outside. This should be corrected when the new hangar under construction, is finished -The "oceanview" cabin is extremely small and the equipment under expectation, not even a chair to sit, no table. Wall to wal bed, small desk with the hair dryer. -very small efficient bathroom, has 3 sections separated by 20 inches doors, do a test at home before reservation ... you've been warned -Disembarkation : very slow took 30 minutes to get off Now the good things The Grand Pacific dining room has the nicest decor we ever saw. The food is very good nic selection, some previous critics mentioned the food was sometimes cold ... be aware some entrees are served room temperature, unfortunately no mention in the menu. The cafeteria can get crowded rush hour, but not an issue, the food selection is more than enough. about specialty dining here's a secret ( a secret is an information you can tell only to one person at the time) no need to reserve, cuz if you are like me I never know in advance what to eat and where. Just walk to the maitre d"hotel of the specific restaurant around 5:30 on the same day, and request a table for exact time you want to eat .... 90% success. If you have a "specialty dining" package it is worth, I would not recommend to pay extra to eat in those restaurants. The entertainment is what you should expect on a cruise, level "B" nice selection of shows, not different representations every night. Some websites mentioned the ship has waterslides, which is not true. Read Less

It was me and my husband's 13 year Anniversary. This was our 13th cruise and our first on Norwegian. All around, it was our best experience to date. Not just a southern Caribbean experience but our Norwegian experience was awesome. We loved the smaller ship experience and the food and service couldn't be beat. We dined in all the speciality dining restaurants as well as the main dining rooms. We could not have been more pleased with the food choices and wine choices. We were treated like royalty for our Anniversary. We were even given a professional photography shoot which was amazing. The photos came out great. The experience of the staff is commendable. You can really tell all of them enjoyed their jobs. Our 11 year old daughter came and spent the entire time in Splash by choice. The Splash staff was wonderful. Thanks Norwegian for a wonderful time.
