We are in Canada, so we flew in Rome 2 days early to ease the time change and visited Rome at the same time. Embarkation and disembarkation were a piece of cake, they were well organised; we followed the instructions and everything went well. We had a cabin with a balcony. This is not a huge cabin but it has everything one may need and lots of space for clothes and stuff. For us, the size was sufficient. We bought a 4 restaurants diner package before we left and we picked the restaurants and nights on the first day. All the other meals were taken at the buffet style dining room. The restaurant packages evenings need to be coordinated with the excursions one is buying: if you come back from an excursion at 1800, you don't want a reservation at the same time. The food was great (the Steakhouse is fantastic for a great steak), everything is clean and the staff do everything they can to assure a great meal experience. Great entertainment and I like the fact that there were great musical acts early in the evening. Services were great. All the staff are doing an excellent job. The biggest problem I had was with the internet. I bought a unlimited social media for two for the 11 days. It cost me almost $300.00 CAD. For that kind of money, I thought I was going to get top quality internet: I did not. I got slow and unreliable wifi. Big let down. We took 4 excursions and they were well organised even if at some times, I was left wondering if I got my money worth. The company run the outfit in a very professional manner and I will be looking at them first when I decide to go on my next cruise. Read Less

First of all if you have never been on the Jade before some of the changes you will not know off. The ship is very clean with excellent bar and waiter staff who are so helpful and friendly. Having sail before on the jade we have notice some small but important changes, Cabins very clean and are of average size and the balcony are very small (not worth £10 never mind the £1000 they charge. forget about having breakfast there its far to small. (comparing to the celebrity ships) If your are not a smoker forget this part, smoking areas have been cut back. One half of the top bar which opens at 2 in the afternoon and closes early so your left with a few ash trays on port side which is always crowded with smokers. (no where to go) also if you are not a player in the casino you cannot smoke. WHY? As for the casino the staff seem to be very poorly trained if they make a mistake in the payment off hands be prepared for them to say 5 minutes later that THEY made a error on a hand and want their money back in front off everyone at table. This happen on 5 occasions once with myself which was very embarrassing they just don't care. Stopped playing after this after wanting to make a formal complaint you cant, just a apology from manager and a offer of a drink (we have a drinks package thankyou) Finished off by wanting to tell us a Irish joke we are from Ireland talk about rubbing salt into a wound. The dining rooms are excellent quick service excellent food could not find fault in any of them. Entertainment was very poor in the theatre unless you like volin or magic. not one show on entire cruise. No stage shows with cast just individual artists. Shore excursions were very very expensive luckly we have been on lots of cruises and have been to many of the places before. Please do not get me wrong this was our third time with Norwegian cruises but standards have dropped badly, would I go back not a chance, when you see what others offer at sometimes a cheaper price I would say think very carefully its a lot of money to make a mistake. We love the med cruises and wanted to cruise again with the Jade after her dry dock. The ship is in excellent conditions and the refurbishment shows its effects. The Atrium is just gorgeous. The speciality restaurants are very good and we loved the new location of the Moderno, serving excellent meat as in Brazil. Service allover is perfect . We were a little bit disappointed with the quality of the buffet and thought it was much better in the past. Breakfast service in the Great Outdoors should be improved to match the other parts: empty milk cans every morning,1 day toaster not working, another day one coffee machine down. Improvement needed on: - the mineral water which is not a true -mineral- water and is therefore way too expensive - reservations management of the specialty restaurants; they say full but often empty tables during a long period of time - wifi performance: sometimes very poor even at night when everybody sleeps ! Great entertainment almost every evening, excellent shows. Don't miss the show on the penultimate evening. Shore excursions: we took 2 tours organized with NCL and we were glad we had private arrangements in the other ports: expensive compared to renting a chauffeur-driven vehicle, local operators not always under control, huge delay in Livorno which made us missed a spa arrangement. Embarkation in Civitavecchia: ok according to the circumstances; NCL does its best to cope with the poor local facilities. we had to wait for more than 1 hour with some fellow cruisers for a shuttle at the official bus stop Molo Dei Bicchiere ( no NCL local number to call) Disembarkation: quick and well-organized. This was a great cruise. The Jade is a smaller ship (compared to other new monster ships) so it was much more friendly and not overwhelming. The crew was great and friendly. And the itinerary of Greek Island and Italian ports was great. The only improvement I might suggest would be to visit one less port. A port everyday was a fast pace so we stayed on the ship at Crete. We chose a cabin with a deck which was very relaxing to be able to watch the ship arrive to port or depart. Having a deck helped to expand the space of our cabin and made it bigger. I would also like to commend the server Pandidurai Rengasamy who waited on us the first night. He was pleasant and joyous. And then we served us several other times through the cruise. On the last night, we made sure to eat in the restaurant where he was working and he served us again with pleasure - a great send off. We also saw several shows in the big hall - both of which had great dancing and acrobatic feats. Read Less

I like transatlantic cruises because I get to Europe in a comfortable, leisurely and entertaining way.and without jet lag. I was disappointed with the kitchen and the dining room servers. In my estimation they were understaffed, inefficient, and ill-trained. The manager tried very hard to correct the immediate issues, but because it was freestyle dining we got different servers every meal, and it seemed as if each server disappointed us in a different way. Just a few examples.. Mistakes causing delays which caused us to rush the end of the meal or miss our following event. Some vegetables, like onions and garlic often had the outside paper skin. Sloppy pouring of water, coffee and wine. Mostly it seemed they were slow and didn't pay attention. Many of the handrails were loose and many handrails were sticky (soiled). The entertainment was mediocre, the violinist and the aerial acts were excellent, the saxophonist was inaudible above the accompanying musicians, the escape artist and the tango dancers were boring, the comedians were somewhat entertaining. We did not go through passport control in Europe which means there is no entry stamp which could actually mean that I am illegally in Europe. The cabin and cabin steward were excellent. Overall, I would not recommend NCL. Read Less

NCL app free to download but if u want to use it to text cruise mates each person is charged $9.95. This is free on HAL. Drinks are expensive food was ok. Wish offered more selection at the buffet same fare every day. Plus no theme nights can you believe they did not have any celebration for Cinco de Mayo! Also the TV channels had no MSNBC or CNN just FOX, whats the deal with that? So if you wan't real news you had to watch BBC, but even that was turned off toward the end. I think Holland America is better because they offer the NY Times online or printed copies for no charge. But being a captive audience on a transatlantic cruise with only FOX news! That aside we loved the cruise the price and itinerary was fantastic! Read Less

A chance to see NY before we left, sailed out of Brooklyn port yard. The embarkation was pretty seamless and well done, no issues. The ship is great. Very clean and the décor was appealing, the updates (remodel in 2017) went very well I'd say. We were very impressed with the crew and service, no issues for us. Delicious foods, highly recommend the specialty dining. We had the alcohol package and took advantage of that. The servers were great, drinks were made well and with no reservation to mostly making any drink a double. Ship wasn't full but busy. Never felt like we waited long for anything. Great Stirrup Cay and Bermuda were our two highlights of the trip. Amazing places. Beach sand and clear waters - SO blue, fantastic. It was our first time there. Entertainment was good, we saw the Elements show and it matches a Vegas act for sure. Daily entertainment is a plenty, lots to see and enjoy. Really liked Dave (from Canada!) and his guitar melodies and many, many songs to sing along to. Pool deck was crowded of course, but still enjoyed that they had an adult only pool section and hot tub. It was myself and spouse, no kids and for us it was an excellent experience. No hesitation to sail with NCL again! Read Less

We chose this ship based on the destination and port of departure. Embarkation and disembarkation were smooth and uneventful. The layout of the ship was a little disjointed. There was almost always seating at the bars and the shows. The specialty dining was impossible to get into if you didn't already have a reservation. The shows were all very good. Not great, but very good. The shore excursion we talked about was not worth the money for sure. Mostly sitting and little real exposure to the island. (Volcano tour St. Lucia) The Bar Staff, was great at The Mixers/Magnums, only marginal at the great outdoors. The Cabin was small but comfortable, more than enough room for how little time we spent in the room. The balcony fit us well. We would take this ship again if the itinerary fit our needs. The food in the restaurants was very good, but the deserts were iffy at best. Read Less

I have never cruised Norwegian and they came highly recommended. There were MANY teens and kids on board making it impossible to get Deck Chairs or even a place to sit on pool Deck. While having an international crew was wonderful, they had extremely poor command of the English language making communication very difficult at times. Our cabin steward was awesome, very attentive and thorough and made the cruise wonderful kudos to Marvin for being a special part of our cruise. The issues I had were very minor but somewhat annoying when you pay that kind of money. I did my homework and planned my own excursions which were not disappointing at all. The food on the ship was second to none and I never had an issue at a bar, I was always served immediately and the drinks were not weak at all. Our cruise director Jacky was phenomenal and energetic although many of the staff often made negative remarks in regard to their salaries, Norwegian and even some of the guests. The entertainment was top notch for the most part although often times the better entertainers were scheduled in venues that were too small, leaving no seats while others played larger venues with many empty seats.Overall great time but I would not be opposed to trying other Cruise Lines Read Less

I cruised Carnival and Royal Caribbean cruise lines and wanted to try another cruise line. I went with Norwegian Cruise Lines instead of Princess because it was going to 2 other islands that Princess was not, OK so lets talk about what went wrong! We noticed that in the beginning of our cruise, we were smelling sewage in the cabin hallway by our room. The cruise line, receptionist sent someone to spray a refreshsioner on the carpets, which only last for a few hours. We complained a half dozer times along with other passions. We smelled that for 10 days. Another problem was that the food was never hot, only warm. I sure it must be difficult to prepare for a thousand people but other cruise line can do it. The type or one can say menu in the buffet never changed. 10 days of the same thing. This reminds me of feeding our pets, the same thing each meal each day. I believe that Norwegian Cruise Lines must not of vetted the shore excursion vendors. Half of them did not care about their passions and did not give a history of the island on the sight seeing exclusions but instead played their music turned way up and just drove us from point A to point B. One of them even dropped us off at a shopping area and said they will be back in 2 hours, which we do not know what he did or where he went, but he did come back 2 hours later and drove us to another point of interest without and information of the island. After that, took us back to the ship. What a waste of money and time. The only positive rating I could give Norwegian Cruise Line is for their room stewards and the kitchen/galley help. Read Less

We went on this cruise with some of my wife's cousins, and we had a great time. Our cabin was fine, and we had a balcony so it was great to be able to look out over the water. Our cabin attendant was very nice, very professional. The staff on the ship were very friendly. I like the free style dining - there are lots of choices, and the food was very good. The entertainment at night was excellent. One of the dancing shows was phenomenal, and Lord Nil, magician/illusionist, was outstanding. Understand, that when you get to Belize, you are not going to the mainland unless you signed up for an excursion - you are actually going to an island owned by the cruise line, but the island was a lot of fun. They had a nice pool, a beach, and for a price, you could go ziplining (and it's really long extending over the water), parasailing, or you could go on a ropes course. And, of course, they had shops so you can spend some more of your hard earned cash! The next stop, Costa Maya in Mexico, offered a number of excursions. We took a 4 hour tour of Mayan ruins. Our guide, Frederico, was probably the most knowledgeable tour guide I've ever had. He seemed to know everything there was to know about the Mayan civilization. The ship had a nice fitness center with lots of treadmills, bikes, ellipticals, and other equipment. They also have a card room where you can go to play cards or other board games. The ship also provides some daily puzzles like Sudoku, crosswords, and trivia. The trip was definitely worth the experience. The cruise was a lot of fun, I just wish it had lasted longer. Read Less

I am so disappointed in my first Norwegian cruise experience. My husband and I (and 2 other couples) set sail out of Miami on the Norwegian Jade (feb 11, 2019) We have cruised Royal Caribbean multiple times and done one carnival cruise. I will never do a Norwegian Cruise again. Not even if I won it! The main issue with this cruise was customer service. No one even attempted to fake a smile except the check in staff at the port BEFORE getting onto the boat, the sweet hand washing lady out front of the garden café (wakey wakey eggs and bakey, washy washy) lol, and the spa staff. That's it! literally no one else. I'll address this more as I go on. Getting onto the boat was the smoothest process. quick. easy. and like I said before the staff was friendly at this point. But as soon as we got on board everything went wrong. I thought the ship was nice and cabin size was average. at around 6pm we had most of our luggage and finished unpacking but by 7:00 we were still missing a suitcase and we wanted to get dressed and go to dinner but didn't have our things. I flagged down a random attendant who told us all the luggage was handed out and that I probably had something I shouldn't have had in my bag. excuse me? so I went to the front desk and they said the same thing! accused me of putting something in my bag and took me to the unclaimed baggage area where my luggage still could not be found, so I was told that it was probably just delivered to another floor and we should just wait that someone would turn it in. after 3 trips to the desk it showed up at almost 9pm after I had already borrowed shower stuff from my friends. In the mean time, our room lights would not turn on. and when a staff member just happened to walk by she showed me that the switch had to be turned off on off on and punched just right to come on, lol. the safe didn't work at all and couldn't be fixed and no one came to even look at it for hours after we called. The stateroom attendant kept our room made up but I only saw her twice in passing. She didn't know our names or ask if we needed anything. I had to leave her notes repeatedly to ask her to replenish the water bottles. Our first stop was to Key West which was as expected (i've been 3 or 4 times). Next to Harvest Caye which is Norwegians private island. BE AWARE that it is NOT INCLUDED. so no free food, no free drinks. you had to pay for it all. the pool was nice but I didn't take a cruise to go to a pool on an island! the ocean didn't even look like the Caribbean. the beach looked very man made. almost like the shore of the river in my home town but clearer. absolutely not what I was expecting for this stop, but I'm going to take responsibility for that since I didn't research it much. I like surprises! good ones anyway. last stop was Costa Maya. we took a cab to Yaya beach club (7 min drive) where we snorkeled with a business called Dr. Dive. John was our snorkel guide and he was amazing. we felt safe in that area. we saw hundreds of colorful fish and star fish and coral and sponges and eels, and sea turtles!. This day was incredibly fun and beautiful and everything you could want for a relaxing day at the beach. after we got back on the boat from the Costa Maya we were greeted by the most god awful smell in our stateroom. a mixture of sewage and vomit that turned out to be coming from the air vent. We couldn't stand to be in the room and sat out in the hallway for over an hour with 6 of our stateroom neighbors who also couldn't stand the smell, all while I thought it was being investigated. A staff member eventually came by and sprayed air freshener and said that hopefully in would get better when the ship started moving again. I cannot make this up. around 8pm there was a follow-up CALL asking if the smell was still there, which thankfully it was not and had been replaced by a much more tolerable smoky/burning smell. there was a knock at the door at 9pm with a 15 dollar bottle of red wine that i don't drink. it was handed to my husband and she just shut the door behind her. No, I'm sorry this happened to you? no, oh is wine ok? is there anything else I can do for you instead? . I guess it still counts as effort though right? now, on to the pool deck.....it was nice. 2 average sized pools that weren't too crowded. one which was adult only, but Just be aware that they do not have enough lounge chairs around the pool or top deck for half the people on the cruise and some days we had to stand around till someone left. The biggest disappointment here was the bar staff. No one came around to the upper deck to ask if you wanted a drink EVER! people formed a line to the bar! a line!! and on the 2 at sea days we had to wait 20 minutes in line to order a drink because there were only 2 bartenders up there both days. My friends and I are in our 30's and although I wouldn't describe us as the young crowd Id say we were amongst the youngest on the ship. the music around the pool definitely reflected that and there were only a handful of times where I wanted to get up and dance..this goes for the night club DJ CeeJay as well. if your idea of dancing includes a Taylor swift remix then by all means sign right up for this cruise. Maybe the boat was understaffed? because like I mentioned earlier no bar staff came to the upper pool deck ever and rarely to the trivia or at the shows. and when they did they did not ask you if you needed anything. they just didn't make eye contact and walked around with napkins and empty trays until you flagged them down and asked them. it felt like I was burdening them the whole time! also be aware the bars at the trivia areas don't open till 4! so you would have to order your drink somewhere else and carry it across the boat. when you pay for the unlimited drink package and cant actually use it its very frustrating. lastly, the food. to quote one of my friends, "man I would kill for some McDonalds and a dr pepper right now." (there's only Pepsi products) The buffet at the Garden Cafe (we ate here for breakfast and lunch) was really good. for dinner we ate mostly at the Grand Pacific and Alizar (they share a menu) and although the appetizers and soups were delicious the main courses fell short. comparable to lean cuisine. I heard the specialty restaurants were really good so I would recommend doing those! I did eat sushi one night and it was the best sushi I've ever had! but other than that I couldn't believe the taste. no one greeted us. every night it was "are you ready to order" and this was not by the same server. each one was the same. they never smiled. you had to ask for a bartender to bring you a drink, no one just automatically asked. when you didn't eat something they just removed it and didn't ask if you wanted something else. getting off the boat was a little bit of a hassle but hardly worth mentioning. the walk off time of 7:30 turned into about 8:30 since apparently everyone else also had this in mind and the line to get off was wrapped all the way around the boat. Regardless of all this, if anyone had of just said I'm so sorry, what can we do to help?, do you need a drink? is there anything we can do to make your stay more comfortable? I see you didn't eat your salad, can I get you something else? hows your cruise going? how's your day? I'm here to help or anything like that it would have been so much more tolerable. heck I think if people had of just smiled at me I would have let it all go!!! Read Less

You couldn't here the next person in their room, unless we were on the balcony. Only thing I dislike, poor choose in seafood. There was no snow crab legs. In the "Pacific Cafe" the shrimp burger was not tasty. I ate it any way. I appreciated Will, the Criuse Manager, for being my interepter to help me in finding where I could get seafood on the ship. I celebrated my 61st birthday with my two friends. It was the best decision we came up with this year. Another thing on this ship, the entertainment of the couples game show was HILARIOUS! I enjoyed watching this show. The creator of this game show needed to be promoted and given a bonus. Again, I truely enjoyed it! Read Less

Star Trek Cruise III I've been on Noreweign Cruises before and I was very happy camper only to be very disappointed and very upset being on the Jade Noreweign.. I don't know where the so called "millions of dollars spent on upgrade renovations" were done on this ship because it looked old and not upgraded! We were on a specialty cruise for the Star Trek III for some mad fun.. We had a Balcony stateroom with NO A/C. OMG it felt like an oven.. I called several times but no avail .. The engineer tech claimed he reset the the A/C. by the fourth call and me screaming that my husband spent his hard earned money of 6 thousand dollars for my comfort on this suite and The fact I am disable and in this heat was unacceptable.. Eventually we got a new suite that A/C was OK. When settled into our new suite. On our late return back to the suite the mattress feltvlike a box spring!! It was hard and uncomfortable.. I felt springs and dips on the bed making it very uncomfortable for me. 10 months ago I had a 12 hour back surgery my entire back has been replaced with Titanium of 2 rods and 18 screws. So a comfortable bed was a must for me.. When my husband booked the reservations he advised them of my situation and they stated that I would be taken care of. Nothing was done.. Thank God for our room porter, Ian that cleans and maintains our room. He immediately got me a thick foam mattress and placed it on top of the springy mattress.. He also got me lots of down pillows. He literally save me cuz my first night was miserable.. By the 4th day of a 6th day cruise this Room's A/C was shot. I was literally done.. I was mostly out of the room and left the sliding glass doors open to cool our room up.. On the last night, we received a message from Guest Services asking if our room was comfortable.. I just never responded because I didn't wabt to show my true discontent with my experience with Noreweign.. The Noreweign staff were very nice.. The free food was not so good.. thank God my hubby got a Dinner package and their food were amazing.. The Star Trek experience was amazing.. Thank God next year Star Trek IV cruise is with Royal Carribean.. I will never take another NCL cruise.. So disappointed when my previous experiences were awesome.. Read Less

We like Norwegian Cruise lines and it is our Cruise line of choice. We sailed on this same ship last year so we knew the layout and enjoy the ship layout. We left on 7 Dec for 10 days doing Puerto Rico, St Thomas, Barbados, St Kitts, St Lucia and St Maarten. We enjoyed all the amenities as Platinum members however this time we were in an inside room and really no big deal. This ship was packed first time we had seen that on any of our cruises. So last year on my birthday, 9 Dec, we found cake in the room and a card, this year we got a card at the start, that was it. We were in a balcony last year this year inside so were we treated different because of the cabin? Only they know. We enjoyed a few excursions, one in St Thomas, the Sky Tram, it gave you a great view and there is a café at the top. Plus we had the $50 back per cabin for excursions making this one free. It really was worth the money though. We did the Catamaran and swim with the Turtles in Barbados, another great time, the water was great, the lunch was very good and the crew was fantastic, the company was Tiamni or something, and the captain was Jewels. Really a nice excursion, we did the long one so we were out around 6 hours. The last excursions were on St Lucia, I did the zip line, this was great and included the tram ride up and down the mountain, lots of hummingbirds to see so have your camera ready. The zip lining was a lot of fun, never had any worry on safety at all. My wife did the volcano tour and she liked it. Our biggest issues were with the service in some of the restaurants. We loved Cagneys, the Prime Rib was great, my wife's steak was great, they did forget Onion Rings but brought out a cream corn while they prepared the onion rings, The wait was really minor, and all in all this was excellent. La Cucina, Italian food, this was disappointing, really the buffet was better. The food wasn't much better than Chef boy-r-dee. We really liked Jasmine Garden last year however this year the food was good but service wasn't. They seemed to be short on waiters and waitresses with most working in Teppenyaki, This left Jasmine Garden short and these seemed to be just the guys they had left. The food quality was down as well. The Garden Buffet, I know these usually get bad raps but really the Garden Buffet was pretty consistent and really over all pretty good. Our favorite was the Alizar, this is one of the complimentary dinner restaurants. The food was always very good and service was very good. A nice place for your evening meals. You can make reservations but you have to do it on the Norwegian App on your phone. You can't make them at the reservations desk. We had the drink package and visited most of the bars but our favorites was Tankards beer and Whiskey bar. Chris was our bartender and took excellent care of us. The shows were mostly repeats from last year which was disappointing. The one new show was just "meh". I guess the big thing was the crew just seemed off not on top of their game as we had expected. This was just our overall perception and not sure I could pin it down to one thing. There were many of the crew that took excellent care of us but the feel wasn't right. We would go on another Norwegian Cruise but probably not on this ship. I will say this isn't a huge ship which is nice, the big ones are sometimes just too big. Read Less

They lied that the ship was repaired and there would be no delays even after several phone calls after I found out about the problem from a friend who seen the ship was broke down in Puerto Rico. They never contacted me by phone nor email in the week prior. After finding out there was a problem and a delay by accident several hours before in a hotel room, I contacted Norwegian and they still continued denying a problem and delay. After checking in at the port terminal, I was handed a notification of the situation and found out the ship would not be sailing on time. We ended staying in the Miami port, delayed for a full day. They in turn insulted everyone on board by offering a $50.00 ship credit for the delay. We lost a 1 full day of the cruise and losing a port of call Cartegena,Columbia. This was one of the stops I was looking forward to going to. One of the main reasons I booked the trip. They ended taking back the monies back, because we were in port and now had to pay taxes on any drinks we consumed on board because we were stuck in the Miami Port. So there was not a real credit. One of the excursion's I do not recommend taking The Rain forest walk, Tortugero Canal cruise & Country side tour in Puerto Limon, Costa Rica. It was a waste of time and money. The canal cruise consisted of looking at a dirty canal with trash and plastic bottle down stream, no wildlife that was promised and a country side tour of a vegetable and fruit stand. The driver was scary and erratic, drove at high speeds on turns and gulley's. Almost drove off the edge a few times, all for $75.00 a person. What a rip-off and then looked for a tip. Other then that the JADE was a fun time on board, the shows were 5 star, comedy acts, singer Natalie Toro, Julie Barr the comedian, trivia contests and other activities. The crew and staff were fun people, and they made the cruise a great time. Hats off to Fabi, Monica and a few other. The cabins were clean , small but comfortable . The steward Julius ALQUIZAR , was great . He made himself available at all times but not annoying. He kept the place very clean and was great with the making of towel animals. The dining was very good at the Grand Pacific , food was hot and the drinks cold. The waiters bent over backward to make the dining experience great. There could have been a better selection on the menu is was close to being the same every night. It never changed much. I was impressed how clean the buffets were. They were good and the staff kept the ship as clean as a whistle. I don't know how they kept up with things . The stop in Belize was a good one ,beautiful beaches and amenities. The stop in Rotan, Honduras was a fun time also. Got to see the wildlife and had a small comfortable and enjoyable beach. The main attraction the Panama Canal was very interesting . Bring a camera if you go. Took quite a while t get through the canal but it was worth it. You only will see it once. Don't take any of the side excursions in Panama. You get to see everything you need aboard ship. The stop to avoid is Limon in Panama. Stay aboard ship. Its very dangerous with nothing to see. Don't get caught there when the sun goes down. All in all we had a great time aboard ship but the Administrative people tried to make the trip a disaster. Thank Goodness for the young staff that made it a fun trip. Would I do it again? Probably NOT because of the way we were treated and lied to before hand. Norwegian itself put a sour taste in my mouth before the ship left port .When I called them back both before the trip and after the trip , telling them of my experience , they had an attitude. They are not the only game in town for them to be that way Though the crew aboard put it back on track. Read Less

Of all the cruises I’ve taken, this was the least friendly experience. I’ll start with the positive aspects: - the process to get on the ship was smooth and efficient - the ship was very clean! Saw the staff continually cleaning the entire trip. Very much appreciated. - the evening shows were all great! Truly enjoyed each show that we attended! Negative aspects: - rarely ever saw cruise director and when we did he seemed annoyed to interact with patrons - red ticket drawing for free cruise was good idea but the process for the drawing on the last day was awful. Why not allow people to drop their tickets into a secured location throughout the trip and then do the drawing. - coast to coast by train excursion was awful. Spent majority of time on a bus, not the train. The actual train ride was great! Rewrite the description so people are aware they’ll be on the bus for a long time. - apparently there was an “activity card” that you could get signed off on and receive a prize if all boxes signed off. Was on the ship two days, participating in various activities, before even hearing about it. Why not put them in the cabins for guests with the list of qualifying activities so they have them as soon as they check in. - was very sad to see there wasn’t one midnight buffet or dessert buffet. Have always enjoyed looking forward to that one special event to see ice sculptures, try unique food/treats Read Less

Our family was aboard the ILL-FATED Norwegian JADE cruise, which departed Miami on November 16, 2018. We departed Miami on Friday afternoon, and on Sunday, November the cruise was abruptly terminated in Puerto Rico (our first port of call) due to "mechanical issues." Several crew members told us that the ship's propellers became entangled in FISHING NETS. At around 11:00 pm on Sunday an announcement was made over the ship's P.A. system. The announcement was short and sweet. The ship encountered mechanical problems, the cruise was terminated, and they would open up the wi-fi so passengers could get online to arrange flights home from San Juan. From Sunday night to Monday, the situation became a total fiasco. There appeared to be no one in charge, no one had any useful information, and passengers were left to figure things out on their own. We managed to book our own flights home, but we (along with all other passengers) were then told that no one could help us get our bags off the ship. This made it nearly impossible for many families and elderly people to disembark. Finally, I paid a crew member $60 to help get my bags on a luggage cart and help us disembark via the freight elevator. It has now been THREE WEEKS since the cruise tanked, and still NO WORD FROM NCL. No apology, no email, and NO CREDIT VOUCHER TOWARDS A FUTURE CRUISE, which was promised in writing while still on the ship. I called Norwegian, and they instructed me to go online and fill out a "case" request, and that someone would get back to me within 15 days. Really? That's the best they can do? After spending over $10,000 for a Suite on a 10-night cruise, you would think NCL would be on top of it....but that has not been the case. We did finally receive a refund (processed to our credit card), but nothing else. After something like this occurs, putting thousands of people in a terrible situation, NCL should have immediately had their Customer Service reps email apology letters to everyone on board, and get the refunds and future credit issues sorted out ASAP. We all understand that mechanical issues, fishing nets, and other unexpected events can happen.....BUT, it is how you deal with these issues that makes all the difference. In this case, bad news turned into total chaos on the ship with no one knowing what to do, followed by thousands of Jade guests camping out in the San Juan airport trying to get home. If you are considering a cruise because YOU DON'T LIKE TO FLY, think again. You may end up with no option but flying home if something goes wrong. Sadly, NCL has really dropped the ball. Zero follow up or communication, and a big ZERO from us in terms of customer service and the way this company operates. Read Less

We choose it cause we were goin on different places however our boat had a mechanical issue and we were stuck in PR. we were supposed to leave on the 9:45 to leave at 12:45 but our flight had been delay. Also the service is so bad with kids. There were many occasions where my teenage kids went to dine by themselves and didn’t get water or food until an HOUR later. Literally want service is this. I really disliked this cruise and i feel like it’s for older people then it is for the young kids and adults. The workers care more about the old ppl rather than the young. And I’m not ok with that. So glad I’m going home. I couldn’t with the terrible service we got and the disrespect my kids also got from the services. We also had to wait over 3 hours for our plan so we can leave. It’s so annoying. It i do encourage to put ur kids in the clubs. They will get treated well and make friends. Read Less

Hubby picked this cruise as Panama Canal was on his bucket list and he doesn't get that many choices when it comes to our hols! 1st timed we had sailed from Miami, I was pretty impressed with the organisation. Embarkation was pretty quick and easy, just over an hour from leaving the taxi to being seated for a lovely 3 course lunch in the Grand Pacific. Recommend this (like so many others) for embarkation & disembarkation day to escape the crowds in the buffet. Booked an inside cabin (9165), which was compact but well appointed and spotlessly clean. Queen size bed very comfy, adequate storage and hanging space. Shower was a good size, with nice slide door, no horrid shower curtain unlike MSC!! Cabin attendant was fantastic, his towel sculptures just got better throughout the cruise. Didn't feel we missed out on not having a window or balcony, spent very little time in it and the position of cabin was very quiet, which is more important to us. Having previously cruised on Gem the ship seemed very familiar to us, as did the most of the restaurants and bars. I would say easy to navigate (pre cocktails). Plenty of room on top deck for sun bathing, although windy (take sunbed pegs), kept ferocious heat down, on sea days, although pool side filled up pretty quickly. Poolside competitions, band and music made for relaxing and fun sea days. Only ate at one speciality restaurant, Moderno. We did enjoy the experience, although I have had better meats at other restaurants. Did like trying the yucca, was proper tasty and something a bit different. Their cocktails went down way to easily too! Had no problems walking in at the Alizar restaurant whenever we fancied. They had the same menu as the Grand pacific, but hubby didn't have to wear full length trousers. Hubby was refused entry (as many others) once. I was seated, while he changed, the maitre d did explain that the only restaurants that require "long pants" are the Grand pacific and the Bistro. I don't see any problems with smart looking shorts (not denim) with a shirt on any Caribbean cruise. Looks smarter than any pair of scruffy jeans (which they accept) and a washed out black t shirt! But now we know, we can pack accordingly in the future. The Garden Buffet was always busy on a morning, no matter what time. The food, we found was always of high standard for buffet fayre, varied and nice and hot. Topsiders was a quick stop for lunch if we needed and were on board. Burgers were exceptionally tasty, plenty of salad and variations of grilled meat. Felt we had missed some nice food lunchtime in Garden Café, but looking at the weighing scales now, sort of glad I did! Personally the entertainment could not have suited us better. As we had been so impressed with the entertainment staff on Gem, we thought they may not measure up but we were not disappointed. They have a fantastic team from all over the world, especially Katrina from Macedonia and Roberto from Mexico (his dry sense of humour right up our street). The trivia competitions with them were hilarious! The nightly game shows at the Spinnaker were a must see. Even cancelled one of my speciality restaurants to go to the Dance Off and it was worth it!! The Newlyweds/Not so Newly Wed , Dance Off contests etc were again like we had seen on Gem but just as side achingly funny thanks to a great entertainment team and "anything for a laugh" fellow passengers! The shows were professionally done, especially liked their comedian on board, Don Barnhart, saw all 3 of his different shows, NCL definitely got their moneys worth there. Enjoyed all of our excursions that we had booked with NCL. Don't usually take ship excursions but Central America is a new destination to us so we played it safe. Apart from the first one, where everyone gathered in the theatre at the same time, then slowly told to disembark. Didn't see the point in that with infirm and elderly struggling with the steps in then out of theatre, every other excursion met dockside and well organised. The only criticism we had was the transfer we booked back to airport from the ship. Queue to leave ship, ok to be expected but to wait 1 1/2 hours for coach to airport is unacceptable. There were hundreds of people waiting ahead of us and we found they had only hired 4 coaches to do shuttle runs to and from airport, one of which got switched to Fort Lauderdale airport as had didn't appear to have any! Will struggle off with our cases next time and jump in cab. Live and learn. Overall we had a fantastic time aboard Jade. We could not have asked for better customer service(apart from airport shuttle), food, cocktails, entertainment, or fellow passengers (a lot of fun). Definitely our kind of people on our kind of ship, will return to NCL for sure! Read Less

This cruise was a 'bucket list' vacation for us as was the Alaska cruise that we've done twice. We ALWAYS sail with Norwegian because of their 'free style cruising' in terms of dining experience. We prefer to not be tied to a specific time/table for dining and their specialty restaurants are very nice, particularly Cagney's and Moderno's. We were in one of the Haven suites, so were able to dine in these restaurants for all meals and never had to go to the 'buffet' dining. We had an outstanding concierge (Effern), butler(Camillia) and steward(Jieve) that saw to our every need and then some. No problems with embarkation/disembarkations, they were organized and orderly. This line caters more to an older crowd which is really to our liking, so not a lot of kids/young people running around. They offer certain packages like the drink & specialty restaurants that are worth the money to get full experience. The shows at night were very good with a nice variety of performances. Some of the excursions were rated a '2' on level of exertion that I thought should have been rated '3' as they involved a lot more walking up inclines and stairs than expected. The climate was extremely warm and humid (it's a rain forest) that was a little hard to take, but the Panama canal process was most interesting. We have advanced to platinum level cruising with Norwegian and don't plan to sail with anyone else; experiences have always been positive. Read Less

My husband had always dreamed of seeing the Panama Canal.Fantastic!!! With this cruise, we could do it affordably and see other ports. We loved each one! On the Tortuguero National Park and Chocolate Experience, we saw wildlife, cacao growing, chocolate made right in front of us! Saw some sloths, too!!In Honduras, the Ultimate Extreme Adventure Combo included eleven regular zip lines, and 2 superman zips, plus a nature walk over suspension bridges. Incredible! Don't miss the Mayan temple ruins in Costa Maya! As far as the ship-personal service everywhere. I am severely allergic to shellfish and seafood. I was personally monitored the entire trip. Amazing. We were totally spoiled by our cabin steward. The wait staff go out of their way to make sure you are not just served well but happy. They all remember little jokes and funny things that have happened. Even with thousands of travelers onboard, the entire staff will remember! We made friends all over the ship. We had great excursions with wonderful guides. The food on the ship was to die for!!! The shows-the illusionist and the aerialists were the best. Whatever you do, don't miss Elements which is the finale!!! What a wonderful experience. Did not want to come home... Read Less

GreAt cruise. Fun smaller ship, more intimate and nit crawling with people everywhere. Only three complaints: one, our air conditioning in the cabins is not good ( ours was slwsys warm, neighbors told us theirs was same ); two, we had a 3 meal package upgrade. NCL used to deliver an envelope explaining the packages and related info. Now apparently they just code your room card. Result: we waited for info that never came and when we found out on day two mostbofvthe places and times we would have chosen ( Cagneys) was unavailable. Not cool. Third, whats up with the rap and Gen X music playing loudly at the pool and bars. Get real NCL, the vast majority able to afford your cruises are 40 plus. It is time to Stop marketing to twenty- somethings. It is also high time to make same sex, legally married couples feel equally welcome and to make a very clear public statement (posted) that NCL supports full Diversity and Inclusion! Read Less

Cruise was an anniversary gift. Romantic package was excellent. For someone who can’t walk very well getting to the ship and back was a bad experience. Complimentary food was good we only had one subpar meal. Crew was always friendly and helpful. Shows were very entertaining however showroom seats were not comfortable. Shopping and port information briefings were very good. Cabin steward was very friendly and helpful. Restaurant service was good although at times it seems they were under staffed. The ship was clean and seemed well maintained. We did have a water leak outside of our cabin and maintenance people were on it very quickly. Casino was smoky and I could not spend much time there and it only seemed crowded one evening. Entertainment in other areas of the ship was very nice. Drinks were tasty and reasonably priced. Getting around the ship was not hard at all.Overall the cruise was a great time. Read Less
