We've been cruising for many, many years and always refer to the reviews here. Now I feel I can share our latest experience, on the Norwegian Escape to Nassau, etc. It was such a massive disappointment. First I must comment that the check in experience was beyond horrible! We arrived at 12:30 and waited almost 3 hours to get through this horrendous nightmare. Standing on a cement floor that long was killer on your feet. We live in Miami and were close to getting back in a cab and leaving. I will say if your only criteria is to entertain the children..than 10 water slides will do it. Otherwise the food and severe lack of selection of dining locations was horrible. The nightly entertainment was non existent, unless you enjoy other cruisers sitting a playing the Newlywed Game. That was old 20 years ago. There is absolutely nothing to do at night unless you want to spend your time and money in the casino. Even the TV access was like a torment, showing only 5 channels, with their ship activities on 4 of them! No selection whatsoever. The shops were cheesey, the entire experience was negative. On the plus side if you like to drink, the unlimited alcohol was wonderful, and made the cruise barely tolerable. There was nothing outstanding, including the service, that would make me travel this cruise line again. Read Less

I just returned from a 7 night cruise on the NCL Escape. I do not usually spend time writing or blogging about things like this but I feel that the reviews of this ship that i perused prior to sailing are not reflective of this ship. We ate at Cagneys, Moderno, Teppanyaki, La Cuchina, Manhatten room, Taste, Savior, O'Sheehans, garden Cafe. Everyone of these offered EXCELLENT Food. Superior to previous ships including Epic, Jade, Jewel, etc. The staff was quite cordial and friendly and I did not encounter One rude staff member. MDQ was fantastic and Brat Pack was OK, did not see after midnight. The casino was a little smokey near some slots but not really noticeable and i Hate smoke (History of metastatic tongue cancer with radical neck surgery---no i never smoked in my life). We always get the spa package and it is worth it. Many times my wife commented on "Where are all of the people At" This is a large ship but I never felt cramped. There is so many activities to do that you are never bored. There are chair hogs but there are numerous places you can sun (H20 and upper level sun deck that most passengers do not venture. We were unable to secure a Vibe Pass but did not have to worry about privacy or children. They have plenty of activities for kids and the water park-Splash zone along with slides keep kids occupied. The craps tables run hot and cold and I walked off with 3500.00 not too bad. Tornament poker was every day and fun but to many rebuys allowed. The bands were average with the exception of the manhattan room and the Air Band. The solo Pianists Juan and Darren were excellent. I have no complaints about the entertainment except the Howl at the Moon was not as good as I have seen in other establishments. The rooms were impeccable and our steward was excellent and very proficient. Embarkation was easy by groups (you need to be in group one for vibe pass) and disembarkation was a breeze with easy walk off. Although the Bars are excellent the most stellar are the Sugar Cane - Say hello to Marcus and Bong (my favorite drink is a raspberry Guava Mojito and Marcus can make a killer cocktail) I had 7 of them one night and a couple of freebees. Make sure you tip and they will take care of you where a drink will be waiting for you as they see you walking up the hallway. Also a shout out to Dani at Spice H2O - I tipped him 40.00 and 10.00 from time to time and we where treated like royalty. OK - We hardly ever take ship excursions preferring to go it alone. In St Thomas we rented a jeep from Budget and was able to see the whole island finding a very secluded private beach called brewers bay, we did Megans (most tourists go), mountaintop - the best banana daiquiri but really just a tourist trap but you can find some interesting shopping. Tortola we rented a Suzuki and cruised all over this island - so much better not having to deal with those taxis and contrary to what people say on these forums I had a blast driving these roads. I want to give a double thumbs up to Arrons rentals in tortola - He has a small operation but was very professional and had us in the vehicle within 15 minutes. Returning it was also smooth, We did some shopping and my wife bought a nice Movado. Bahamas - We live in Palm Beach and we take our boat to the Bahamas all the time so this is not an exciting port to us. We went to Atlantis to play craps and I won 1800.00. we then returned to downtown and my wife picked up a diamond ring at Milano and I bought her a pair of Dancing Diamonds earrings. The staff and manager were excellent and there was no pressure tactics to buy(Probably why we spent the money) Overall this was a great cruise with great food, very congenial staff and crew, and no major issues or hassles, Now remember that this is a vacation and we spent a lot of money for drinks and some food. We had the UDP which worked out well, but to all those people who complain about nickel and dime it is what you make of it. You can easily get away with not spending much if you do not use a specialty restaurant or drink but what fun is that. Ok I do not like to cruise but my wife does, i have been to most of the islands for dive trips and like to spend a week or two, I had to take two weeks off from my practice for a military commitment but then it was cancelled so we booked the cruise and I was ecstatic with the results some insider tips - i brought a case of coca-cola on board with no issue in a suitcase. The rope course was boring except for one zipline over the ocean, tip the crew from time to time, (shore excursion to Megans Bay 89.00 a person, Rent a jeep drive on left 110.00 for the day), use the omelette station and bread/toast station in the back of the Garden Cafe- never a line, see MDQ, walk the waterfront, Read Less

After two prior cruises on the Getaway we expected this ship to be as good or better. There were a number of things that contribute to the low rating. To start the luggage took over six hours to be delivered to our room, the food at the buffet was very average throughout the entire trip and not what you would expect from NCL, the entertainment just average as well. Headliners was good, the band in the 5 o'clock somewhere bar had no business being allowed to perform and the main show the Million Dollar Quartet was cancelled. The Latitudes reception was also unusual. The introductions took about 5 minutes and they left... Normally they would stay and visit with guests and hand out pins. We were bumped from food reservations 4 times and reassigned 3 shows due to special functions that NCL chose to accommodated a large group of travel agents at the expense of the other guests. I personally had never heard anyone say they couldn't wait for the cruise to be over until this cruise. I really hope NCL realizes what a disappointment the Escape is and fixes the issues. They also should warn guests when they are booking that they will have large special groups aboard that they will be catering to. Read Less
