We just returned from a 7 day cruise and could not be happier to be home. This ship is extremely overcrowded, terrible customer service, less than average food. very noisy and a overall horrible experience. We considered jumping ship (not literally) and flying home from one of the islands. In fact if we did not have a group of people we were cruising with we would have totally flown home from the first point. The service in the main dinning room si brutally slow. Each evening dinner took more than 2.5 hours while our drinks set empty most of the time. We did the unlimited internet package and the internet did not work the entire stay. The wait for the elevators was incredibly long and when you did finally get an elevator you were packed in like sardines. We have been on many cruises with other cruise lines and have never see anything like this. Very unorganized and always a cluster. Disembarking at every port was a zoo. People would hide in the hallways near the exit levels just to avoid the mad unorganized rush. We did not get any sleep the entire trip because of college age kids screaming outside our door every night at 3:00AM. The staff did nothing to intervene the entire trip and told me there was nothing they can do. A very low class experience to say the least. The room square footage always includes the balcony no matter the website states so make sure to subtract the balcony. lll Read Less

First of all the ship was way to big. I didn't find it a friendly ship at all. The restaurants seemed to have the same menus. The staff wasn't as friendly as on other cruise ships I've been on. On the first day we tried to book shows and everything was unavailable. The adult pool was so small we thought it was the kiddie pool. The buffet was over crowed. You had a hard time finding somewhere to sit. Casino was so smokey you couldn't breathe. Had to leave the ship after 2 days do to an emergency by ambulance to the hospital in Cayman Islands. My husband had a heart attack. I wrote a letter to the Norwegian Headquarters to see if they would refund the 5 days that we already paid for but they just didn't seem to care. I will never go on a Norwegian ship again. So very disappointed. Read Less

We are were huge fans of Norwegian, but this cruise was nothing like we had experienced in the past. Overall service was horrible, food was mostly over cooked at the majority of restaurants and the staff were consistently untrained. At the lifeboat drill, the fill in person told the room of 200+ to "shut up" or she would "..make everyone get up early the next morning to attend a make-up drill." The irony was that nobody we could hear was talking and as she continued belittling and threatening the room, she clearly made matters worse as people then began to laugh at her ridiculous behavior. On several occasions, the bartenders didn't know how to make drinks, seriously, they told us they had never worked a bar before and the normal staff were in meetings which left us walking them through making cruise basics like a Pina Colada. Things just got worse when we went to specialty restaurants and in two instances after being seated, the staff said they were too busy to take our orders and stated we would have to wait until things slowed down. So we waited for over an hour for food. At the Japanese specialty restaurant, when the food finally came, the server plopped the food down randomly, leaving us to decipher what each dish was and who ordered what. My Mother-in-law ended up with an extremely spicy dish (she doesn't do spicy so she clearly got the wrong dish) and we had to switch plates again. Entertainment was great, very well done and our balcony suite was very nice. We did have a few specialty dining experiences that were wonderful and seeing the Mayan ruins on one of our excursions was fantastic. Overall, I would NOT recommend this cruise. The majority of excursions were expensive and lacked substance, especially their 'island' which included extremely overpriced items for purchase and it was impossible to find a place to sit around the pools or the beach. This was a last minute decision with limited choices. Wanted to try a new line we had not been on before. Horrible mistake from the start. Price: typical price-gouging. Instead of working on forging good relationships and repeat business, like so many other corporations, Norwegian doubles their rates during higher travel seasons (economic terrorism). None of the ship's "tips" or "useful info" mentioned needing to arrive at Port of Miami over two hours early to make your embarkation time. The port has no traffic management, and is peppered with misguiding or no directional signs, and mostly non-English speaking employees or difficult to understand immigrant employees. Expect two hours of stress and gridlock. Embarkation: a little better organized, but our rooms were not ready so we were stuck hauling around our carry-ons for 2-3 hours. Extra Charges: of all other cruise lines, the worst so far. Expect to double your initial ticket price on a 7-day cruise with pre-included gratuity (for sometimes mediocre employee service), double to triple priced drinks (even $5.00 or more for a bottle of water-really?), service charges for room service just to name a few. Kids: They need to have family only cruises and separate these. Cruises are for singles, couples, and retirees, not families with kids. Typical of the modern day rude, selfish, inconsiderate, narcissistic, liberal-millennial people/parents of today, these people brought their obnoxious kids onboard and let them run amuck, completely undisciplined. They created major safety issues running in the restaurants, food areas, around the decks, through the casinos and various other "adult only" areas which Norwegian employees did not enforce at all. Overcrowding: more passengers were booked onboard than amenities and deck space could accomodate. Unless you get out there at 8 am, do not expect to be able to get a lounge chair anywhere onboard or access any of the hot tubs or pool. Think of the crowding on a full airline flight, general boarding. This is how much space there was. Bigger is not better. Norwegian simply more than doubled the number of cabins/passengers than on smaller ships but did not increase the amenities space. Port visits: Two ports involving tenders were not worth going ashore for. They are required to use the ports tenders. There are simply not enough. Expect to wait in a two hour plus line to get on/off the ship each time giving you only 2-4 hours at the port. Not worth leaving the ship. Sanitation: Again, staff not enforcing rules, and rude, obnoxious cruisers thinking the rules don't apply to them. At the buffet, people would come from the pool area, bare foot, shirtless, dripping water on the floor into the food/buffett area. Despite their efforts of using hand sanitizer everywhere, due to over-crowding and typical modern rude people boarding themselves or kids whom they know are sick, both of us caught a horrific flu from other passengers last day of cruise and were bed-ridden for 3-4 days after. Organization: There was none. The buffet area had no banisters or directionality in lines (ie, pick up a plate and form an orderly line in one direction). It was a kamikaze free-for all, dozens of people crowding the buffet counters from all directions, and again, typical rude people and their kids actually cutting others off and pushing people out of the way. Excursions: again, due to over crowding, excursions on two occasions were disorganized, we almost missed one because the "guide" led us to the wrong bus, and the experience was not as good as it could have been. Food: Good, but on a cruise, and for what they charge, I expect at least 4-star. Their specialty restaurants barely made the 4 mark and the buffet was only a step or two up from hospital cafeteria food. Kids (again): during the game shows and comedy routines, which clearly contained serious, explicit adult content, language, and sexual connotations, children as young as 8-10 yrs old were allowed to observe these by both their irresponsible, unqualified parents, as well as the ship's employees. Casinos: Questionable. Took forever for servers to keep up on drinks. Kids constantly running around, completely inebriated people being allowed to continue playing, holding up the games, spilling drinks on the tables, etc. I also question their regulatory honesty. Blackjack dealers were getting an unusually high consistency in dealing themselves 18-21, while dealing a full table smalls through 15. (15-20 hands in a row.) I have been playing for years and never seen this, and though I have no proof of any cheating going on, what I observed is a mathematical impossibility. By far this was not a good experience. Though it may differ on their smaller ships, due to their policies, costs, and overall management, I will not be utilizing this line again, nor would I recommend them to anyone else. They need to overhaul their operation, and screen the caliber/quality of guests they bring on board for people with better manners. Read Less

I have never been the one to post complaints about services or companies, but I want to inform people about the truth behind the Norwegian Cruise Line. On December 23-30th my family and I boarded the Norwegian Escape. We were having a great time, especially when arriving to Grand Cayman. I would totally recommend going to see the turtle excursion for all turtle lovers. This excursion was definitely the highlight of my trip! However, the enjoyment came to a halting stop on the last stop of the cruise, Great Stirrup Cay, when the neglect of the lifeguards almost cost my dad his life. My dad and I had had just arrived to the island looking for a full day of adventures starting with snorkelling. I had gotten out of the water due to the current being so strong. There were no signs anywhere indicating "At your own risk", but there were lifeguards on duty. There was a lifeguard on the rocks (indicated in the first picture). After getting out, I decided to go lay down in the sun for a little bit, until I heard a few teenagers walking by. One had said: "I can't believe I laughed at that man drowning" as the rest of them laughed. My dad is a very strong swimmer and was raised in Croatia therefore the ocean is apart of him. A few years back he had an episode where he was also snorkelling and he had panicked and lost his breath. After hearing what that teenager had said, I got up to look for my dad just to make sure he was ok. As I was walking by the rocks (where the lifeguard was located), I heard a lady calling my name. I turned around and saw her running towards me with my dads snorkels in her hands. I automatically thought of the worst. She had reassured me that he was okay but I needed to go to medical as soon as possible because my dad had drowned and was not breathing. When arriving to medical, I saw my dad hooked up to many different types of machines. I had went to hold his hand, when the doctor told me he was in critical condition therefore I was not able to touch him for his own safety. During this time, my mom was no where to be found, therefore I was alone. I ran back to the entrance/security of the island, crying and asking for the man to call the ship in order to locate my mom. I had waited about 10 minutes until I gave up and ran back to find her on my own. I had told multiple Norwegian employees that my dad was in medical and I needed help finding my mom, although no one seemed to care. Eventually a man who worked on the island was concerned for me and took me on the ATV to find her. She was no where to be found. Eventually I ran back to the medical where my dad was being transported back to the Medical Centre on the Cruise ship. When arriving there they had told my dad he had to sign a bunch of papers in order to be helped. He obviously was in need of immediate treatment therefore he had signed. Hours later my dad was discharged from the cruise hospital with a outstanding bill fee of $5,189.55. I had asked my dad how it all happened, he told me that he remembers waving at the lifeguard, who ignored him, then screaming for the lifeguard, who ignored him again. He was screaming for his life and everyone thought it was a joke. My dad told me he knew this was it and no one would save him. He was 20 feet deep and 200 feet out in the water, when two kids had found him and tried bringing him back. Two men had brought him out of the water when they called for medical. No lifeguard had helped him through it all. Isn't that their job? There was no type of sympathy for my dad shown by any crew member. Through it all, no crew member had came to the stateroom or even called to see how he was doing. Absolutely nothing was done for him through it all even considering this all happened on THEIR island under their "lifeguards" supervision. My dad has never been someone to want sympathy, but you would think they would put in at least a little effort because this all could have been avoided if the lifeguard was doing his job. Nothing was offered to my dad except for his medical bill that we had to pay upfront. When I had spoke to guest services, she had absolutely no sympathy towards my dad. When I asked to speak to a manager she had told me he was not available. When I came back in the morning, she had told me he was still unavailable. He's on the ship somewhere isn't he? MY DAD ALMOST DROWNED UNDER THEIR SUPERVISION, how could I not speak to a manager? My dad is the strongest man I know, and will fight through any sort of pain. Seeing him not being able to walk on his own and being so weak was the absolute worst feeling I have ever felt. I have never seen him the way he was, therefore I knew he was not ok. My parents are considered to be "Loyal customers" therefore they are gold members to the Norwegian Cruise Line. I can garauntee you, we will NEVER be back or dealing with the Norwegian Cruise Line ever again. The trip was going well, until I truly saw the real side of the Norwegian Nightmare. Read Less

First, many staff were unfriendly (e.g. shore excursions & guest services desk). There was really no one willing to take ownership of an issue, which left us feeling helpless and unheard while on board. Second, we paid for the stingray city excursion in Grand Cayman and the bus was over 30 minutes late picking us up. When we actually did the excursion, it was cut short to make up for lost time so they could get us back to the boat on time. The unscrupulous excursion operator reported to NCL that they took us for 40 minutes, but by my nephew's timer, we had less than 20 minutes. We also paid for photos, which we never received. When we spoke to the Manager at the shore excursions desk and he was rude and helpless -- stating that whatever happened is between us and the excursion operator. An absolutely ridiculous position to take, given that we booked the excursion, while aboard NCL. Third, the cruise director announcements in the mornings were frequent, excessive, and annoying. One day, there was an early morning announcement for a staff drill. Why couldn't they do this in the afternoon, or while the passengers are disembarked from the boat? That made no sense and was extremely inconvenient. Lastly, on the final day of the cruise (while docked in Miami), there was a wet floor in the Garden Cafe dining area, upon which my son fell and cut his chin wide open. The person taking us to medical did not know where she was going. She led us in circles, while my son was bleeding profusely. We finally found the ship's doctor and my son required about 8 stitches on his chin. There were other miscellaneous experiences (e.g. vomit in the elevator one day then, spilled alcohol in it the next; poor capacity planning -- the Garden Cafe and and the gym were often crowded to the point of not being able to find a spot. Same with finding a spot in the pools or hot tubs -- next to impossible; waiting for over an hour for appetizers in the dining room, etc.) that contributed to a poor overall experience as well. Overall this was the worst and most horrendous experience -- we will NOT be going on another NCL cruise. We'll stick with Royal Caribbean in the future. Read Less

Have been on 11 NCL cruises and this was the worst. NCL keeps deteriorating, and the overcrowding of this ship just made things worse. Public areas have been replaced by too many restaurants (29 of which 5 are free!), so there is no where to sit and enjoy reading a book or staring at the ocean except your own room. My big complaint: the Atrium is used for noisy shows and games like Deal or No Deal and even karaoke (so that we could all hear the bad singers, whether we wanted to or not). Atrium is packed when these activities occur, so not only is every chair taken, a whole bunch of people stand around watching, and if you are not seated you cannot see what is going on. The loud sound system and yelling carries throughout the area, which is also where the information deck, computer area, and shore excursion desk are located, so at times you can hardly hear if you need to go to one of these areas. Activities like the Not so Newleywed game, Thriller Dance Class, Big Pyramid Game show, line dancing, etc., might be fun in smaller rooms with plenty of seating, but here they are loud and impossible to see unless you are one of the lucky ones who arrive early. The whole idea of a warm and welcoming Atrium area is destroyed. Further, the sounds carry upward into the casino (already a noisy area) and O’Sheehan’s Bar and Grill. O’Sheehan’s (free) was one of our favorite places to eat on other ships like the NCL Pearl, where we could enjoy quiet breakfasts, snacks, or off-normal-time lunches with a sea view. Here it is constantly crowded and noisy, often with a long wait line for seats. The whole ambience and greatness of the place is ruined by the noise (no sea view either). Not enough lounge areas meant that even trivia ended up in the Atrium. And because of the crowds, if you sat there, bar service was very very slow. Crowding because of over 5000 guests extended to the pool areas, where lounge chairs were put into every available space and walkway, even lying side by side without space between chairs, so if you lay down it seemed like you were in one giant lounge bed for 6 people (your new best friends). Only the waterfront deck outside had good places to sit and watch the view and maybe play cards or talk with friends, but in inclement weather it was useless (and when a ship is moving during Dec. the cold air and wind make this area unusable for a lot of time). Reservations were usually needed for all the shows and specialty restaurants, and sometimes even main (free) dining rooms. (Freestyle my eye!!) Upon boarding we booked the shows for the week and found many were already marked Sold Out. Fortunately you often could arrive at showtime and get in to Headlines and Main Escape Theater shows, but for the Supper Club the non-reserve wait line started an HOUR early, and not everyone got in. The 6 pm Supper Club made little sense to me, since different acts showed there, but the (free) set meal was always the same, so would you want to eat there twice? Some shows without food were at 9 pm. Generally the shows were free there and good (Ben Zemzer Comedy Magic was so intriguing my friends went twice; and The Flyboys 4 piece singing group was great, though a short show at 45minues). But why was Jalynn Steele’s Supper Club cabaret show an extra $29.95 plus gratuity? (Sorry, I had never heard of her so didn’t pay for that one!) There were two big production shows — AFTER MIDNIGHT based on the Cotton Club was FANTASTIC, a great show, Broadway quality, excellent tap dancers, singers, dancers (highlight of the trip for me, and the best show I have seen at sea), and THE BRAT CLUB, energetic singers and dancers and a horrible plot that made no sense —some people liked it, I didn’t, and do not sit in the first few rows or people will be dancing behind you. Levity Entertainment group provided comedians....they got better in “adult” sessions. Some of the smaller acts had poor singers — the dueling pianists in Howl at the Moon could play really well but were not great singers, for example, and the singalong pianist wasn’t very funny and was not a good singer (at least to me). Food in the specialty restaurants was excellent and service there better than normal for NCL. Moderno great, Teppanyaki lots of food and entertaining, La Bistro best of cruise (dover sole to die for). Breakfast in the free Savor and Taste very good, with a large menu and excellent service. Service there better than the free Manhattan room (which sometimes has a singer or pianist). The buffet food good, but very similar night to night, and like on many NCL ships, too crowded so you normally had to hunt for seats. In the search for more profit, NCL has added more Ala Carte restaurants and even some of the normal specialty ones like Cagney’s is ala carte pricing unless you book a specialty package. If you have specialty package you generally were limited to one appetizer, main course, and desert (entree worth under $20), but that did not bother us, If all you want to do on a cruise is eat, this is the ship for you— unfortunately we like to do other stuff too! Bar goers may like the Cellars wine bar and beer-loving Distict Brew House, but be prepared to pay the high prices and automatic gratuities. There are the usual constant calls to buy stuff, and almost all daily activities are really promotions to buy things, from the Fly Boys CD to spa treatments to art [check Ebay prices before buying] to watches and bingo. The casino is the biggest on an NCL ship, but do not expect loose machines. The good news is there was a nonsmoking area. There are all kinds of ad-on charges for stuff that used to be free, like room service. You have to pay for a special spa package or there is no access to the snow room they tout, even if you buy a regular spa treatment. One good deck area had a fee, and some ship areas were relegated to those people in First Class (that is, Haven Rooms). Yoga has a charge, slow internet gets more and more expensive, duty free liquor not much of a bargain, etc. Constant announcements tell you what is happening (even if you can read like I can and get the daily newsletters!) Good news is that handicapped folks have cabins with wider doors and can open them with a button. The theater had a couple of rows roped off for handicapped folks, but strangely they put chairs in the handicapped area that should be for wheelchairs. Overall getting around in my scooter was easier than in the badly designed Epic, but the elevators seemed small and fast. Best thing onboard, comfortable beds. The rooms had a very large amount of storage. The ship was extremely stable, even in rough weather — better than most ships. Kids had their own area on Deck 5, and seemed happy with all the activities. The library is tiny, as is the card room. NCL constantly tries to sell you certificates to be used on another cruise (and I do mean constantly). The captain will wake you up daily at 10 am to tell you the latitude and longitude (available on the TV...), so much for relaxing and sleeping late... Muzak is constantly going in every bar and hallway. There is a jogging track, but with all the people, don’t expect to run very fast if at all.... Kids will enjoy a bunch of slides, aqua area, and rope area (if weather is good...it wasn’t on much of our December trip). The Tv basically has about 5 real channels [thank goodness for MSNBC, Fox News, and CNBC- I was sick part of the time], including a movie channel (ask front desk for a schedule), plus ship’s channels which run the same stuff over and over including the Not so Newleywed Game (why do’t they run more of their games?), plus newer movies you can pay for on another channel. The overall design of the ship should have been good, but because there were fewer lounges or lounge areas, the crowding in the Atrium area often made the activities there unbearable. Be prepared to be nickel, dimed, and now dollared to death on this big NCL ship. Bring your earplugs for the Atrium, spend quiet time in your room or on your own balcony, and pray for good weather so some of the people go outside (and so you do not miss ports as we did for more sea days). Finally, do NOT buy port to airport transfers from NCL as we did, or you could find yourself waiting for two hours in the Miami sun (or rain) without cover or chairs for nonexistent buses! (and do not exit the dock without a bathroom break because once outside they will not let you back in and the only “facility” is a filthy portable type shed with rickety stairs and rails and no wheelchair access) - shame on Port of Miami! We sailed on the Norwegian Escape for Thanksgiving week. We were so excited for this cruise and some good family time. Unfortunately, we chose the wrong cruise. The staff was unwelcoming and down right rude. Our room attendant was unfriendly and did not even greet us when we passed him in the hall. The room was not cleaned and we had to call housekeeping to find out where our steward was. And when he did clean the room, he always forget to bring towels. The shower was clogged and flooded the entire bathroom. The beds were extremely uncomfortable. Tried to relax by the pool, but they played the music and TV so loud you could not relax or have a conversation without screaming. Had to get up and get our own drinks because there was no bartender in sight! They played the same Jimmy Buffet music tape and video every single day. One member of the staff that worked the slides, disrespected my daughter saying that they should date and have babies together Making her feel nervous and uncomfortable. The food was horrendous and the service was terrible. NO ONE spoke English and they did not understand us and we did not understand them. We ate at four different specialty restaurants as well as the buffet and Main dining rooms. Same experience in every restaurant. The presentation was good but the taste was terrible. Attended the pamper party in the spa and booked a 75 minute treatment. While the girl was massaging my shoulders, I asked her to put a little more pressure and she snapped at me told me to book a deep tissue bamboo massage! This was a terrible experience and would never again cruise with Norwegian. Just not worth it. Read Less

My husband and I thought this would be the perfect cruise for us and our two grand kids, ages 5 & 6. Our cabin steward Quinn was very polite, as well as most of the other staff onboard. Because of the hurricanes, our original itinerary had changed to Falmouth, Jamaica, George Town, Grand Cayman, Costa Maya, Mexico, and Nassau, Bahamas. The embarkation went smoothly, although we had not printed our boarding passes, and the disembarkation went ok as well. Although the Escape is one of the newer big ships on the seas, the cabins are small, including the mini-suites with the extra large balcony. Entertainment for families is lacking, there were very little shows and activities for kids to do other than the Splash Academy. The Splash Academy staff was great, they helped the children put on a show at the end of the cruise. As with most things, the shore excursions were expensive for a family of four. We went on one in Jamaica and the Grand Cayman. The Turtle Excursion in the Caymans was fantastic,; my grand kids loved it. They were able to hold the turtles in the rescue tanks then go swimming in a regular pool afterwards. As always, the food was good, and we love going to the Specialty Restaurants. However, what we did not realize was some of the other staff had ulterior motives. On 11/11/17, when we boarded the Escape and got settled into our room , we discovered that the safe's battery needed to be changed, so we went to Guest Services to have it corrected. The battery was changed without our presence; no big deal, so we thought, until the day before the end of our cruise when I discovered that my jewelry was stolen from our safe. I immediately reported it to Guest Services and that is when the fear, intimidation, humiliation, reckless disregard, and coercion began by security personnel in order to change my mind about reporting the theft per NCL's protocol policy according to security. They searched our stateroom, every bag, suitcase, including my purse, all drawers, cubbies and the safe for the missing jewelry to no avail, which we could not understand. I asked why? and was told because some older people forget where they place things; which we do not fit into this category. The NCL security personnel verbally attacked us and basically called us liars in the process. I had contemplated going on the next cruise that I booked by myself out of New York on the Norwegian Gem but, decided to go since there was only two days in between once I returned home. That is another horrible story for another review to follow. Would I go again on another Norwegian Cruise Line cruise? I would like to say NO! However, unfortunately for us, we still have two pre purchased Cruise Next certificates that are non-refundable. Overall, the value that you get for your money can quickly cost you. So, cruiser BEWARE, if you go on a NCL cruise and report to Guest Services that something has been stolen from your stateroom, it can have an extremely lasting negative psychological impact on your well-being. My daughter chose this cruise for our family vacation. I would never book a cruise ship this large but my grandbabies were coming so we thought it would be fun. Big mistake!!! First the good: Embark and disimbarktion was pretty good. Was inpressed but that is were it ends! 1. Pools. They had two. One was by the slides and was small and for kids. The other adult only pool was a joke! This pool was packed and could only hold maybe 60 people. There were only two large jacuzzi's. TWO and of course they were packed. The people on board left bottles, cans and glasses every where. 2. H2O Adult area is a big fat joke!! Nothing is there I think there was two jacuzzi's and the rest was chairs. Yuck! 3. Arcade and bowling. Bowling was $5.00 a bowl!!! Highway robbery. NCL needs to take a look at the way RCCL does there large ships. They can not even compete with RCCL. NCL also nickels and dimes you to death. The drink package that is free, yeah right it cost us roughly $183 for 2 on our 7 day for gratuities on the drink package and dinning. I can not ever go on NCL again. They are a joke of a cruiseline. Read Less

SHIP: Cigar smokers beware even smokers in general. The smoking lounge is a absolute joke its about the size of a small bedroom can't smoke cigars in the casino. If you tell me there are areas for smoking and I book with you then you need to supply an acceptable area. I should not be treated like second class. Very restricted area out side in an uncomfortable seating space. I could go on and on bottom line I've been on carnival nine times its back to carnival for me if your smart book carnival you wont be sorry never again ncl. CABIN: The cabin stew was just great however he places the waste can just outside the bathroom door. I tripped very night when i got up to use the rest room. Every day I moved it by the desk area and every day he moved it back to the prior location. SERVICES: Why if we have the beverage package does it not apply to the room frig? It would be nice for the guest but to much trouble for you? Also guest services should be able to handle all reservations. Not transfer around from restaurant to theater to restaurant. Come on NCL you are supposed to be the Big time get it right. Read Less

We boarded the ship in Miami, FL. My reservations indicated, "Wheelchair Assistance required." My husband and I were told to take a seat at a designated area to wait for a wheelchair. We waited 4 min. to an hour. It was chaotic and unorganized. Upon inquiry of the long wait, I was told, "we only have 2 wheelchairs." I decided to slowly make it to the room on my own.Prior to leaving the area, I filled out a short form indicating that I would not register my credit card at that moment. I figured once we settle in or before we return, I would settle any outstanding charges. That evening, we viewed our account on the TV and saw a charge for $3.50 ($1.75 x 2.) I went to Guest Services, upon inquiry I was told it was taxes for drinks we ordered while in US waters. I also requested internet instead of $50 off on excursions (We initially chose the beverage and the excursion packages.) I was told that I wait to wait 48 hours for a response. The next day, we went to breakfast and upon returning to our room, we were served 2 notices. 1 for my internet request, only stating for me to visit Guest Services and the other said,"You may still pay all or part of your charges by cash on disembarkation morning..." and "At the present time your onboard acct. has been deactivated and your signing privileges have been suspended." We were livid. What a way to start a vacation! We visited Guest Services the night before, we had a telephone in the room and yet we were never told that it was mandatory to link a credit card to the room. All we thought about was the embarrassment and humilitation we would have endured had we not received the notices when we did and order something from the bar. Again I went to Guest Services, provided my credit card and informed them that I did not want to pay the $13.99 per person per day fee, I already paid a hefty gratuity charge when I made my reservations. In response, I was told to come back the night before disembarkation. Once the ship left, An announcement was made that upon leaving US waters, 18 year olds can drink liquor. Drunken teens were scattered throughout Deck 16 and 17. This was our second cruise on Norwegian. The first was on the Gem from NY. The Buffet area was always crowded with young children handling food with their hands. This cruise is geared more for families with children. Only 2 small outdoor areas for smoking with children activities nearby., not for adults. We feel that the Guest Services Staff were unprofesional, rude and impatient. We are totally done with Norwegian. Read Less

We chose this ship because it was rather new and had unique features. There is not enough pools for the amount of people on board. The hallways are extremely narrow, traveling with my mother who had a scooter she could not pass when they were cleaning carts in the hallway. We have never had this on any other cruise line. We also chose this cruise because of the ultimate beverage package that was offered for free. Not once did we have a bartender walk up to us and ask if we would like a drink, we always had to go to the bar and ask for one ourselves. Never saw any servers around the pool deck asking anyone if they wanted any drinks. The Ultimate Beverage Package which states drinks under $15 are included, I guess I missed the part that water isn't considered a beverage you had to pay for bottled water. Once again I have been on other cruise lines and the beverage packages purchased always included bottle water as well as fresh squeezed orange juice. The service at all three of the main dining rooms was VERY SLOW and the wait staff was not friendly at all. You only had one server per table unlike other cruise lines that have 2 per table. The food was blah and usually not very hot. The crew did not interact with the passengers that I saw unless you were participating in an organized activity. I am use to having the crew when they walk by acknowledge you but most walked right by you without saying anything not even hello. Would have liked to have found a place on the ship that have a place to hang out where it was quiet and could have conversation after dinner. Every lounge always had music or an activity going on. You can smell the cigarette smoke on almost 3 floors due to the open middle of the ship sometimes it was very strong. Would have liked to have seen more movies played on the outside screens during the day and or evening. The new private island in Belize is beautiful however you cannot get food on their own island unless you want to pay for it which makes no sense and no other cruise line charges you for food on their private islands. First and Last NCL cruise for me. VK Read Less

We cruised carnival 3 times before and had best experiences with staff, stewards, fellow passengers and crew. Wanted to try something different this time There was a total of ten in our party. None of us were very happy. The food was so gross mostly every night so no one ate. Even the dessert was tasteless. We couldn't get into any paying restaurant until 9:30 which is too late to eat dinner Never connected with anyone in the 7 days on the ship. Staff was annoying. Taking away your dishes and cups before you were even done eating. Had to race you to beverage machines to get you a drink. Giving me ice in my cup when I didn't want it. The majority of the staff couldn't communicate. Didn't speak English or understand it. This is our opinion only!! It was an experience But I felt strong enough to share it and we will never sail Norwegian again. Read Less

I would never recommend anyone to go on this cruise line. NCL Escape was horrible, from the service to food. Lets start off with the dinning experience. It is freestyle dinning, which means you go when ever you want to eat. We waited every night at the table for 2 hours to get our food. Then when it came to the food, it was just horrible. I think I could have ate better at Wendy's or a fast food restaurant. And instead of the dinning room we actually went to the buffet because it was better food then the dinning room and we didn't have wait for 2 hours to get it. I have never seen this on a cruise. If you ordered room serve there is a $7.25 service charge every time they bring it to you. Next the breakfast is only served in three restaurants and at the most they stay open to 930am. Of course there is the buffet again that you can go to till about 1030am for breakfast. If wanted the real experience of a cruise ship dinning you had to pay extra for the special dinning, which is not right. There are two pools for about 4,000 people that are packed all the time. The amenities around the pools were ok, which were the following: jacuzzi hot tubs, slides, rope course, mini golf, basketball courts and jogging track. Now when it came to the shows, you had to put reservations in for them. If I wanted to do that I would have gone to NY or even Las Vegas. I paid for the shows when I booked the cruise, why would I have to have reservations. And there was only one good show on the ship and that was Brat Pack. Service on the ship was just horrific. Like said above the dinning service took about 2 hours to get your food. The bar tenders would see you and walk right by and not ask if you wanted a drink. My wife and I order some pictures and the pictures were 3 different ones. Some how the guy at the picture place thought we wanted 3 of the same one, so we had to go back and re-print them. The manager would not even give the pictures to us for free or even a discount for the inconvenience. The cabin service was good, but hard for the stewardess. And what I mean by hard is that he never knew what time we were going to be at the room or back to the room. Overall, the cruise was just bad. We will never use NCL again. Read Less

This was definitely the worst cruise I've ever been on! We love cruises for the service and entertainment, but this lacked both! All the music at ALL the venues were too loud to enjoy. We are in our 40s and love to sit and enjoy music, but couldn't find any venues to enjoy. The musical After Midnight was horrible! The ship was so big that they couldn't provide the small nicities we learned to expect. There was 1 pool for the 4200 passengers plus a kiddy pool. There was no music or champaign when we entered the ship. The buffet was terrible, worse than cafeteria food! There was only 1 stewart per cabin.Disembarkment was terrible and we almost missed our plane. We will never go on a NCL again. We will stick with all of the other lines! On the plus side, the embarkment was quick and speciaty restaurants and drinks were good. Read Less

Just got off the Norwegian Escape this morning. This was our 2nd Norwegian Cruise...and our LAST! Never make this mistake again. Had a poor experience last year on the Getaway. Norwegian offered us a discount on this one so we took a chance. First. Boarded the ship at 12:15 PM. They sent everyone to the Garden café...With our entire luggage!! Rooms were not available for almost 2 hours. Purchased a Meal Package at the specialty restaurants. Reservations were impossible after day 1. No one was willing to make exceptions. If you don't make your reservations as soon as you get on the Ship you’re screwed. 2nd. Toilets stopped working after 3rd day and continued to not work for 3 days. So from Tuesday to Friday my family along with others had to leave our staterooms and go to the restaurants to use the Toilets. 3rd Staff in the Garden Café now has you wait in line to get a cup with Ice. They fill up your glass. (Ridiculous). 4th. had to be on board by 2pm on Wednesday. Got to the Sushi restaurant on board at 1:39. Was turned away because they close at 1:30 pm. There were other diners eating. This to me seemed very petty. Ate there the following day and it wasn't worth the wait. Lastly and MOST importantly. We had the mini bar emptied upon Boarding so that we could use the fridge for our own items. Staff came into our room on Friday night while we were at dinner. They emptied our items from the Fridge. Left them on the counter and locked the fridge. I complained that this was an invasion of privacy. No one seemed to care. I spoke to other passengers and no one I spoke to was happy. Oh and don't count on sleeping. No one monitors the halls and kids run up and down the halls all night. They pounce on the floors. Last night it went on till 3AM. Again we notified staff on Wednesday but to no avail. In the future I will spend my hard earned money elsewhere. Read Less

SHIP- The Good, Paint job on the outside- The Bad, Nothing special inside to look at- The Ugly, Small hallways two people can't pass one has to go into a doorway and the rooms are very small. How else could you get over 4100 paying people on board. THE FOOD- The GOOD not much, the best tasting thing I had was a coney island, very sad to say. The Bad, most every thing else, my wife is a better cook. The Ugly, at about 5:30 AM I was watching two guys putting food out one took the cover off scrambled eggs smelled it and asked the other to smell it, than they dumped them in the trash. THE SURVICE- The Good- Room service was great kept the room spotless all day The Bad- Could not understand some of the working people. THE UGLY I didn't meet one working American on board, yet the ship is registered in the Bahamas docked in Miami and wants American money. ENTERTAINMENT- THE GOOD splash pad , putting golf , rope course. THE BAD Most shows start later on at night. THE UGLY The bands at the pools and bars were way too loud, couldn't even talk to anyone Read Less

Recommended highly, from a friend. This cruise and ship lacks virtually everything important with respect to cruising. It's not relaxing: There is no possible way to sit by the TINY main pool. they designed the pool areas so poorly that very few chairs can be near the pools, even fewer in t the sun. Some days you'll need to go 3 levels up for a chair. The music around the pool is loud and mostly bad. Even if you like Jimmy Buffet, a 2 hr live concert recording of any aging star is just too much. Bad Service: Hardly ever saw a waiter. Get up and get your own drinks. Main dining room expect A LONG WAIT for your food to arrive, luke warm. @hr average for a sub average dinner. Every steak in every restaurant, including the specialties, taste like sirloin , no matter if it's titled filet. Food : Really limited selections availability on the 16 deck mostly, so a long way for a snack. I know cruise food. I don't expect that much, this was a little less. Activities: If you don't gamble your out of luck. The poorly placed casino allows the smokey smell to permeate the main deck. Kind of disgusting, and I a smoke. Very few free activities worth doing so bring more money. Embarkation: If you like waiting on infinitely long lines . NCL is your ticket. Haven't seen anything this bad in 10 years, seriously. Where do I start. My best advice is if you have to do a cruise then cruise Royal Caribbean First of all I upgraded and paid an additional $400 for our state room to have a larger balcony on deck 9, not realizing that deck 9 large balconies are only slightly larger then standard size. To get a true larger balcony book deck 8 or below. Deck 9 is not worth paying extra for the larger balcony. I know because we had two cabins, one we paid extra for the other was a standard balcony. The bathroom showers are very small as well as the entire bathroom. The only decent size bathrooms are in the mini suites. The staterooms have no drawers so to unpack folded clothing, socks and underwear it makes it hard. None of the complimentary food is edible unless you are willing to stand in a long line to get an omelet or pasta made to order. The rest of the complimentary food is cold, greasy and flavorless. In order to have a decent meal you must eat in a specialty restaurant which runs $35-50 per person per night. That said even the French restaurant was not worth the money. There is a mini bar in each stateroom which is just another way for the cruise line to nickel and dime the passengers. We were traveling with grandchildren unaware they were hitting the mini bar goodies late at night to a tune of $140. It should be locked and the adults given the key but instead its wide open for anyone to use Of course we cut them off once we realized what they were up to. Avoid the excursions too. We paid $200 per person to go to Atlantis in the Bahamas to find out once we got there we could have booked directly with the hotel for $75-119 for the exact use of the grounds. On St Thomas and Tortola there are taxi's and tours far cheaper on shore then booked through NCL. For example in Tortola we paid just $8 RT per person for a cab to a surf beach totally empty away from tourist and the cab driver waited for us for 2 1/2 hours while we were at the beach for no additional charge. The only entertainment on board worth seeing was the company men. We went twice to them We walked out of Rat Pack and were advised not to waste our time on Cotton Club after midnight. Also the daytime entertainment at the adult pool just steps from the family pool is somewhat raunchy, including lap dances etc. No class at all. If the adult pool was away from kids view then OK but it isn't. Read Less

We took this ship with my family of 4. Due to NCL TA recommendation that Mini-Suite will give us a bigger cabin and more storage, we paid the extra $600 and went with the Mini.. 1.We hardly had any room to move around in the cabin nor had enough storage. The bottom draw under sofa was stuffed with pillows and sheets. 2.Food is the same as the last 7 cruises with NCL - since our 1st cruise from 2012 nothing much has changed. MDR - Manhattan was great. Savor was nice, Taste was Ok. 3. Entertainment was the worst of all my 9 cruises. Entertainers were not bad but there were no variety also cannot make reservation and no spots to sit for many shows. Few other cruisers were saying the same as well. One lady said – it feels like the entertainment field thinks that as long as everything is LOUD, shows are supposed to be good. Another passenger said, MSC has a different show every day of the night and was excellent also no reservations were needed as well. 4. Even though we were platinum, did not get any bathrobes or Chocolate on the pillow either. May be they stopped doing that. 5. Our 4th (Pull down bed) stayed down the Whole time in that small space and we kept hitting our head trying to sit on the sofa. Taking clothes from the Shelf was interesting! Hardly ever saw the cabin steward. When we called nobody picked up the phone. so we let it be. Know they work hard. When we met him, he was nice. We had to even go get our own ice..... 6.Shore excursion is more expensive on the ship even with our Platinum discount. - A. At St. Thomas, we did SkyRide. Paid $22.5 / pp (Ship charges $25 ) At the entrance they charge only$21.00, Did not know it would be cheaper. If so we would have bought over there. B.Tortola we did Beach- Nice ride...Amazing view. Beach and water was nice C. Nassau, we were not there for a long time, so Walked over to Funkanoo Beach. Nice and Free...Took the cab back $10 for 3 people in a very beat up taxi. Its a short ride. This itinerary is mostly Sea and less port time. Having said all this, have to say the employees were all nice They also did a fantastic job with our Meet & Mingle.. Had beer; Alcohol and snacks. As well as had great live music for us. That was awesome. Ship is Huge, pretty, sold out and well kept. Lots of 1st timers and past carnival passengers had a lot of good things to say about Escape. As far my family who has cruised only Princess, NCL & Royal are concerned, they do not want to do NCL for a while so we are going to try other cruise lines in the meantime. Read Less

We had cruised on Royal Caribbean before which is a night and day comparison to Norwegian. We heard that Norwegian was comparable to Royal Caribbean but this is not the case! Along with the ship feeling crowded and rocking back and forth constantly (Royal Caribbean Freedom has technology to prevent/limit tremendously the rocking, couldn't even tell) they have horrible customer service and safety is at risk. Customer service is absolutely horrible, their kids center is boring for my six year old (he only wanted to go twice in seven days we where there - Royal Caribbean was every day begging to go), they are extremely disoragized, their ships are too small to the amound of people they are trying to fit aboard. Their safety drills are disorganized, coudn't tell what was going on, couldn't hear where to go in case of emergency, etc.. and they spent most of the time trying to fit hundreds to thousands of people in one room instead of focusing on drill itself. My entire family also developed Norovirus symptoms which include diarrhea and vomiting directly after leaving the Norwegian Escape Ship. I would highly recommend Royal Caribbean Freedom of the seas, Freedom class as minimum first time cruise for an awesome experience and don't make the mistake to give Norwegian a chance like we did. Norwegian Escape balcony room 9912. we had chosen Norwegian, because it was the best bang for your buck or so we thought. we also choose ncl. because people said they loved the freestyle. (witch was one of the only good thing about the cruise.) not being told when/where you could eat. the cruise we want on was my husband and my first cruise/vacation ever as adults. this cruise was also our honeymoon. now before i explain. why it was the trip from hell. on the embarkation we were rush and pushed though. just to wait in line for our room key. then to wait in another line to get aboard the ship. it just seemed pointless to rush us at customs. just have to wait in 2 lines. my husband and i are not picky people at all. but for what we paid for this cruise was not wroth it at all. the way 90% of the crew and officers treated us. was not worth prepaying the service charges. on the first day we had gone to the buffet to eat. my husband had gotten some food that was under cooked and i got sick the first night and puked my brains out. my husband had gotten something hard in his food. that cut his gum and gave him a tooth infection by the 2nd day. from the under cooked food he had eaten. so we went to the medical bay. the nurse had said it was 149.00 plus medicine and supplies. so we where thinking 500 to 600 bucks at most and when we got back we would submit it to our insurance. we had asked if it would come out of the account or would we get a bill. she had said he would get a bill. witch was a lie! since we didn't have that much money and wanted to enjoy our vacation and go on ship excursion's. when we got to the islands. so my husband wanted to wait and see if he would feel better. since he wasn't in as much pain at that time. but by the 3rd his face had swelled and he was in a lot more pain. so we went to the medical bay and had asked the same questions and she gave the same answers. so he got treated and that night he got the bill. it was 1,257.00 for 1 hour of medical service. some ibuprofen and antibiotic. they also had put it on the account and had taken all the money he had. They then proceeded to call the room more then once and left letters on the door. at the time my husband was trying to recover. so we had talk to guest services like they asked and told them the nurse had quoted us something much different. they told us we had to go to the medical bay and talk to them. but at that time they were closed. so the next day he still wasn't feeling good and because of hipaa. i knew they wouldn't talk to me and since Florida still doesn't accept gay marriage. so when my husband felt a little better. to witch the guest services was still was calling and left bills and told us to pay. that made him take longer to get some what better and didn't start to get better. till the cruise was all most over even though we told them. we did not have any way to pay. no credit cards or money to pay. they took all the money we had already. so he tried talking to the nurse at medical bay. they didn't care or do anything and told him he signed the bill. even though they didn't show him the bill or said it was the bill. just told him to sign for the treatment he received and so he could get the medicine. if that wasn't bad enough i had tried enjoying myself. since my husband told me no use us both staying in the room. so i tried enjoying the pools and they were always full. the hot tubes were full of kids even though it had said adults only till 8pm and there is a kids pool witch the kids never used. so i tried using the adults only spice h20 hot tubes. witch was always full. so i would ride the water slides. but when i rode the green drop slide. i hurt my back and got cut up in 2 places. the person that was running the drop slide. before i had rode the drop slide. the first ride attendant was allowing people to ride the slide without taking off their jewelry. before i had the chance to ride the slide. they had a shift change and i had to wait 15 minutes before i could ride the drop slide. witch is cool everyone needs breaks and i am not mad about that. the person that replaced the other guy was making everyone take off any jewelry. the only reason i am saying this is because i remember the 3 people in front of me. they had wined about the other guy not making them take off their jewelry. i believe someone had lost a piece of jewelry from the other guy and the jewelry had gotten jammed in the slide. the jewelry had cut and hurt my back in 2 places. when i told one of the pool attendant and showed him my back. because i didn't want to go all the way to the top of the ride. just to tell the ride attendant. since my back was hurting from cuts and i pulled my back up when it cut me and that pulled a muscle. the pool attendant told me it was not his problem and walked away. so i went back to my room as fast as i could to lay down. my back has just now started to feel better from the cuts/pulled muscle. i just wish i could have gone swimming in the Ocean/Caribbean sea. since before this cruise i had never seen or been in the ocean. I didn't get the chance to go swimming in the ocean/Caribbean sea or even put my feet in the water. since their was no swimming by the boat/docks. they also took all the money that was in my husbands account. so we both couldn't afford any of the ship excursions and i didn't want to go alone or take a taxi and had something happen. then not make it back in time for the boat. with the luck we had that would have happened and we didn't have passports. plus what is the fun in going to a beach alone on your honeymoon. i had cried every night on the ship for this reason and a couple more other reasons listed above and below. the only time we had an okay time was in the smoke room. because we met 5 really nice people and 2 crew members that treated us with respect. a bartender Matika in the atrium bar and our room steward.(that i can't remember how to spell his name.) i also wanted to mention on the 2nd or 3rd day of the cruise. i had gotten a alcoholic drink (a beer) from the bar. one of the officers on the ship. a guy officer had came up to me and garbed the beer from my hand and said you have to be 16 no drinking alcohol. i told him "i am sorry but what did you say?" he said no drinking you are 16. beer is for adults only. i told him i am 28 and married. he said give me your ship card. so i had handed him my ship card and he scanned my ship card. then he asked for my id. so i then showed him my id. i was not being mean, load or had been drinking. since that was my first beer all day or nor was i walking funny. so there was no reason for him to act this way to me. so then he gave me back my drink and started watch the other people at the bar. i didn't get a sorry or anything. i look young but i don't look that young. i am balding a little in the front and i had a full bread at the time. with my wedding ring on. this had happened to me 2 times. but the 2nd time was with a different officer on the ship and i was not drinking. i was just at a dj party in the skyline bar for adults only 18+. i was with a friend i made at the smoke room at tobacco road. she only stopped us and asked us for our ships card/id's. even though there was way younger looking people. that was walking into the skyline bar right behind us and she didn't ask them for anything. i have worked for 2 different convenience store totaling over 9 years. i know it is hard to tell somebody's age. but i know if i asked someone for their id like they did or only asked the young gay guys. i would have been fired or reprimanded for it.i would have said something to customer service. but the way they treated my husband. i didn't want to talk to them at all. since i know it most likely would not have gone anywhere or would have done anything.. i also have dyslexia and is hard for me to remember people's names/spelling of names. as i didn't want to say or spell it wrong. then get someone that had nothing to do with it in trouble. i only had the chance to walk around the 1st island of St.Thomas alone. not fun at all but i wanted my husband to try to recover. so we might of had the chance to walk to a beach. on one of the other islands. because they took all of my husbands money. so no ship excursions and i didn't want to go alone on the 2nd island Tortola he still was in pain. so we couldn't go to the beach there ether. on the 3rd island in the Bahamas. my husband was felling a little better. so the friends we had made in the smoke room. they had walked with us to the flee market. witch wasn't the plan we had in mind. the plan was to visit the beaches at all 3 islands. we had put just enough money in the accounts for 3 ship excursions and so we could get a couple of drinks for us both.. the reason we had chosen a cruise was for the beaches and the fact you do not need a passport to go. it also had been a dream of ours since we met 7 years ago. the dream was to go to the Caribbean beaches. the very thought of how they treated us and the trip its self. has made me cry a lot.. just thinking about it as i type this email has made me cry. i am not the type to cry at all. but all that hard earned money down the drain. we ware so close to having one of our biggest dreams for filled then having it fail. i have a lot of family members. That have gone on cruises before and plan on cruising in the future. they had told us cruises are the best bang for your buck. they also do not require a passport. which cost a ton of money. it had taken us years to save for just this honeymoon/ vacation. gas money their and back home (in total 2,591 miles 38.11 hours total drive) money for 2 hotel stays, food for the trip down and back, a little spending money for gifts/memento's to remember the trip, and tipping money for the people that served us.. i am not the kind of person that always looks at just the bad. i always try to look for the good in life and look for the positive things in life. but the only good/positive thing was meeting 7 people that we will never forget. the beautiful islands we had seen. plus the friendly people on the islands. i am sorry for this email. but i hated the thought that we got treated like crap, spent a whole lot of money, and was so close to completing one of our dreams. yet never got to go to the beaches or swimming on any of the islands witch was the whole point of the trip. i have tried emailing ncl and they have not gotten back with us at all.
