Wow, don't know where to begin. First, because I've never cruised before, I thought the room would be small, no, no, no and no. The room had a queen size bed that looked and felted like a king size bed. I thought the bathroom was going to be small. No, no, and no again, the bedroom was average size with an amazing shower in it. The shower was equipped with a hand held shower head that was great. Also, I thought I would get sea sick, no, no and no again, the ship was like a city moving. Yes, I never got sick. I enjoyed all the activities on the ship. There were so many that I missed a few, but boy did I have a grand time. This was my first cruise and now I'm hooked. I looking into going again next year to another destination, but I'm going again on a cruise with NCL. The staff were amazing, they all went out of their way to make sure everyone had a great time. I loved it, and would recommend a NCL Cruise to everyone of my family and friends. Thank you again, NCL for an amazing time. Read Less

We chose this cruise based upon the ship. We wanted to sail on the Escape. It is beautiful and well cared for. The ship was spotless. Loved the layout of the ship with easy access to everything on board. The thermal spa pass is also highly recommended, I have never been more relaxed. Grand Cayman was beautiful and had a wonderful time. Nassau and Ocho Rios were just o.k., would have been better off staying on the ship and enjoying the Haven. The staff in the Haven are unbelievably attentive and professional. Can't wait to sail again, sorry to see Escape go to NYC. We bid on an upgrade for the Haven and our bid was accepted. Hats off to NCL, the bidding process made the anticipation of our upcoming cruise so much fun. We checked everyday. We likely would not have ever booked the Haven without the bidding process. WOW! Now will not sail any other way. Bid away my friends, so worth it! Read Less

Everyone was so nice, felt like family. Shout out to our housekeeper Josefa, very friendly and was always pleasant to talk with. I loved this cruise and will be saving up to take my children and grandchildren in the future. there will be 11 of us. Also shout out to Iesha at the Bamboo Beach Club, she made our trip to the beach so much fun by playing games. This trip was the best I've taken. Thank you Norwegian family for taking great care of us. The glass boat was also nice, the 4X4 excursion was ok too,but they need to work on having dependable vehicles before sending them out. *The food was good *The shows were excellent *The staff was wonderful *The Bands were on target *The disc jockey on the 17th floor was off the chain I hear you will be having a larger ship in the future, I would love to go on it. What attracted me to NCL was the fact that the cruise line did not charge a supplement fee for traveling solo. The accommodations for solo travelers was perfect in what they offered as far as the cabin and the solo lounge. NCL offered a solo facilitator to make your cruise enjoyable. From embark/disembark customer services, hospitality, entertainment, food, housekeeping, crew/staff, activities, beverage package, the price in general for the cruise, excursion, organization, ambiance, ports, itinerary, smooth sailing, port, the ship ESCAPE all in all EXCELLENT!!!! I would highly recommend NCL cruise line if traveling Solo. The cruise line has so much to offered. What I mean about that is coming out of your comfort zone. This solo cruise I was craving for so long and I have finally done it and that I will be doing it again in 2020. Couldn’t do one this year due to the fact that I moved. But from 2020 and there on, I will be cruising with NCL. Read Less

This is our first cruise so we didn't know what to expect. We were very pleased with the service the food the accommodations and the entertainment. We got the dinner package and we got the drink package. The drink package was nice to the top shelf Liquors and any kind of drinks you wanted to. There was one nice bar which is called the District which had about 15 different tapped beers. That was my favorite place. But it closes at midnight. We didn't do much in the casino maybe spend 20 bucks gambling. We spent a lot of time on Deck 17 by the poolside space just lounging and signing. We spent a lot of time in the spa area the thermal spa and the ice cave we're pretty cool and after that we are relaxed. When are the late fifties early sixties so The Nightlife really didn't entice us to stay up late. But we didn't take advantage of some of the shore excursions and our favorite was Georgetown Grand Cayman. I heard that this was the last Caribbean cruise the Escape was going to perform so in the future they will be coming out of New York to Bermuda. Read Less

We sailed on the escape april 14-20, 2018, 6 night out of miami with stops in nassau, grand cayman, and ocho rios. Here's my review: Embarkation / disembarkation: a. Both were flawless and the fastest we have experienced. We arrived to the terminal around 11:30 and didn't have to wait in line or sit in a waiting area at all (the ship was not filled to capacity). We were at the buffet within 20 minutes of arriving at the terminal. The disembarkation was just as fast--we did the self-assist early disembarkation which was called about 15 minutes early and was outside the terminal 15 minutes later. Ship: a. the breakaway class ships (getaway and breakaway) and the breakaway plus class (escape & bliss) are some of the best laid out and easy to navigate ships sailing in my opinion. all of the dining and entertainment are on decks 6-8 and each floor goes all the way through with only a forward and aft staircase / elevators, so it's very easy to navigate. Everything else, like the garden buffet is on deck 16. Couple notes about the ship: Cabins: a. We had one cabin on deck 13 fwd, inside. It was nice and quiet and no motion. I would recommend a deck closer to decks 6-8 because you'll spend most of your time on those decks. We had another cabin on deck 12 aft balcony cabin. Fantastic cabin. the bathrooms and showers are large and some of the best at sea. The balcony cabins have usb ports in the lights next to the bed. (the inside cabins did not have them). Both have 3 outlets which is rare so you may not need to bring your power strip. tv: d lousy. The channel selection is terrible (ncl only has cnbc, msnbc, and fox news for networks along with a movie channel, a favorites channel, a "sports 24 channel, and some other proprietary channels. the remote and tv itself are also lousy. Ncl spends literally a billion building a ship and then puts a $75 tv sole brand tv in each cabin. I have had problems with the remote controlling the tv on nearly every cruise. The onscreen ability to make reservations and check your account is the one bright spot. Entertainment: b. some of the best at sea but you can't always get in to what you want. Make your reservations early--especially for the comedy shows. after midnight: a. A fantastic high energy show based on the cotton club in the 1930s harlem. brat pack: b. a musical based on the breakfast club brat pack. If you like 80s music, this is your show. The performers do a great job and give it their all. it is long--a full 90 minutes! sean joyce comedy hypnosis: a. a hilarious entertaining show where 20 or so members of the audience is hypnotized. jackie fabulous: a comedian in the headliners. We went to the family show and she was really funny in a clean comedy act. keith bender: a the other comedian in the headliners. Also a very funny comedian. DINING: mdr: b. overall the food in the main dining room (mdr) was very good each night (we ate there 4 of the 6 nights). i asked the waiter each night for his/her recommendation and it was usually spot on. modurno: a brazilian steakhouse. The salad bar is reason enough to go but the meats, in particular the fillets and strip sirloin, were excellent. le bistro: a. French. This was the highlight of our dining experience on the trip. The food quality and service were fantastic! garden buffet: b. generally a good selection and food was fresh and hot and it opened on time every morning and afternoon which isn't always the case on some cruises we have been on. Fitness: a. The gym on the escape is one of the best at sea. all the equipment is modern and well maintained. There are a lot of treadmills and rarely were full. Shore excursions: we did not do any so i can't comment. In the past we have gone to the blue hole in ocho rios which i highly recommend! Read Less

A pefect cruise for us and our two teenagers followed by a second trip with just us (sans kids). The Escape is a gorgeous ship and we signed up for use of the spa facilities which we really enjoyed. The Norwegian Escape is an amazing ship with an equally amazing crew. It was fun seeing Mr. Washy-Washy at breakfast. :-) Don't forget the evening crepe bar in the Garden Cafe - I think it's open around 9:30 pm. Dang, there is a minimum word count here so I can't leave a brief review - grrr! Ok, here is a bit from someone else's review that we agree with: Everyone is friendly and accommodating. They feature Guy Harvey on the hull of the ship and his art is also featured as well as his research channel so be prepared to learn about our oceans. The onboard activities keep you busy. The excursions offer you a wide array of options for things to do. You only need be bored if you want to. We've only ever cruised with NCL and have nothing but great things to say about them. The ship feels new and clean. Read Less

BACKGROUND On November 11, 2015, we were on the inaugural voyage of the Escape from Miami after her christening. A short, 3-day Bahamas cruise. The Escape was new and shiny with that “new ship smell”. We thought it would be fitting to be on the final voyage of the Norwegian Escape from Miami as she moves home ports to New York. She is currently scheduled to remain in New York until her return in November 2019. Our live post from this cruise can be found at https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2624246 Miami, Florida Nassau, Bahamas At Sea Ocho Rios, Jamaica George Town, Grand Cayman At Sea Miami, Florida CHECK-IN AND EMBARKATION We showed up at the Port of Miami at 10:15. NCL uses both Terminal B and C (based on odd and even deck numbers) for check-in. We walked right up to Security and there was the pile of abandon water bottles. There were no lines at the Haven check-in counter and very short lines at main check-in. Haven guests were escorted to a separate waiting area in the terminal. At 11:00 am, an escort came to bring us to the ship. At the same time, the port agents called for priority boarding of Ambassador, Platinum Plus, and Platinum guests. We headed to the Haven lounge while the race for Vibe passes started with priority and general boarders. In the Haven lounge, the concierge, David Contreras, gave a short welcome speech and we were on our own to explore our new home for the week. Waiters served rum punch, sliders, and fries as a pre-lunch snack. We previously sailed with David on the Epic on an Iberian Peninsula cruise, and he always takes excellent care of his guests. STATEROOM Haven Courtyard Penthouse with Balcony (H5) Accessible Stateroom 18126. When NCL does a media tour of its new ships, they always show off the H5 Accessible. Extra large room, large door, open floor space, large dining table, large bathroom and no ledges to stub your toes. Hidden away in the Haven complex, our room was a few steps from the Deck 18 entrance and a few steps from the Deck 18 Haven lounge and restaurant. The phrase “ship within a ship” doesn’t start to describe the papering you receive as a Haven guest on the Escape. Haven Lounge. A great place to relax and have a drink. Private bar with the best bartenders on the ship. The concierge staff takes care of all of your needs on the ship. As the entertainment schedules changed from pre-book to cruise date, the concierge staff was a lifesaver as we re-planned our entertainment and dining. This included booking shows (After Midnight, For the Record: The Brat Pack, Supper Club Fly Boys, Headliners Comedy), Activities (Canvas by U, Escape the Big Top), and dining. The concierge team also Haven Courtyard. 2-level courtyard with soft, padded loungers to sit back and enjoy the cruise. A retractable roof allows the warm sunshine in, but keeps out the wind and rain while at sea. The courtyard has a small pool, two hot tubs, sauna, and private massage rooms. Haven Sundeck. The Haven has a private sundeck, inches away from the Vibe. Soft, padded loungers, canopy shades, and beautiful forward-facing views as you sail. The wait staff will bring drinks and food as you relax and the cold, aromatic towels keep you cool and refreshed. DINING Haven Restaurant: On embarkation day, Haven guests are offered a complimentary meal at Margaritaville, so the restaurant was only partly full. The food is always wonderful and the service great. Our only complaint is that the menu is always the same (for years). We at breakfast at the restaurant daily, two lunches, and one dinner. Moderno. Moderno Brazilian Steakhouse was one of our platinum dinners. The salad bar is wonderful with a high-end selection of cheeses, meats, salads, and soups. And there is a never-ending line of Pasadores carving meats tableside. The service was outstanding with our waiter and the maitre d working as a team, checking in with us throughout our meal. Bayamo. Having recently ended their relationship with Iron Chef Jose Garces, the menu of Bayamo has been overhauled to include many of the favorites from the “new” Ocean Blue menu (which underwent an overhaul when NCL ended their relationship with Iron Chef Geoffrey Zacharian). Service was great. And we enjoyed the new menu items. The one downside has always been that there is no physical separation between the Sugarcane Mojito bar and the restaurant. And there are always a few guests that have had one too many Mojitos and have forgotten how to use their “inside voices”. Pincho Tapas. We used our Specialty Dining Package credit to have all-you-can-eat tapas for lunch sitting outside on the Waterfront. The food is the best on the ship. A wonderful collection of small plates prepared to perfection. Although NCL ended their relationship with Jose Garces, the menu of Pinchos has remained relatively unchanged. Although often overlooked, this is a not-to-miss restaurant. Cagney. Cageny’s Steakhouse is always a treat. This was our second Platinum meal. The food at Cagney’s is always top quality, prepared to perfection. The service was great. La Cucina. While the food is similar to any good Italian restaurant at home, we always enjoy a dinner at La Cucina Ristorante. The ossobuco is always at the top of our list for dinner here. Food Republic. Another great place for lunch. Since they ended to relationship with Pubbelly Boys, the menu has gone under an overhaul. Favorites are still there and the international small plate foods are wonderful. The restaurant is only open for 1.5 hours for lunch on sea days, and it fills up fast. Get there before opening and get your orders placed quickly for faster service. You order everything on a tabletop iPad and swipe your room key to pay. All very fast and efficient. FAVORITE ACTIVITIES Canvas by U. Aspiring artists show up for a lesson in acrylic painting. The cruise director’s staff provide step-by-step instruction on painting a masterpiece in 1 hour. Always great fun. Escape the Big Top. Complimentary escape room adventure where a deranged magician has made you invisible, locking you in the Supper Club, you spend 45 minutes with your team to solve a series of puzzles to escape. On our cruise, they had 10 groups of 10 people. This is a very popular activity, so book a session at the Box Office on embarkation day. After Midnight and For the Record: The Brat Pack were great theater shows. Extremely high energy from opening to close. And variety of entertainment all over the ship was great from live music in all of the bars to a quiet movie at night. SERVICE Superior Guest Services. Our last two cruises have been on Royal Caribbean and by far, the service and crew on the Escape were far superior. Every crew member you encountered greeted you with a smile and acknowledgement. The crew of the Escape when out of their way to make you feel welcome, part of their family, and helped create wonderful cruise memories. Wifi. This was our 4th voyage on the Escape and on our 3 prior trips, I would have said that the Wi-Fi on the Escape was the worst in the fleet to the point of being unusable. But with the new tiered plan and increased bandwidth off the ship, we were impressed with the consistency of the connection (no more dropped connections that required re-logon) and the speed of the internet. Well worth the cost of upgrade to an unlimited plan. PORT & SHORE EXCURSIONS Nassau Glass Bottom Boat. We booked this excursion as much to do sightseeing of Nassau harbor as to see the Caribbean sea life. Lots of time shopping after the tour. Ocho Rios Bamboo Beach VIP. Since we were one of the first groups on the beach, this was a great beach day. We were broken into groups of 16 guests and assigned a hostess that picked us up on the dock and stayed with us throughout the day. She served the unlimited drinks on the beach and lunch (3 appetizers, jerk chicken and lobster lunch, and rum cake and ice cream dessert). The VIP section had padded loungers (vs. the chairs on the non-VIP beach). The one downside is that the water is rocky. You need water shoes. But the water was clear and warm and you can run between food and the water throughout the day. Grand Cayman Atlantis Submarine. The sub ride was a great experience. Taking you to depths of 75-110 feet. There were a lot of small fish. We expected to see larger fish and sea life at depth. DISEMBARKATION Easy and painless. Stateroom to Airport: 7:50 left stateroom 8:05 self walk-off, through customs and at curb 8:10 taxi to airport $27 flat rate, no waiting 8:45 at gate at MIA including checking bags at the check in counter SUMMARY This was a wonderful cruise. We’ll miss the Escape in Miami. And anxiously await her return. Read Less

My Husband Made all the Plans, I just showed up. He asked me questions, but my career has had me so busy i can't think, i just needed to get away. I Knew we booked an ocean view, caribbean 6 day. Upon Arrival, i was aghast, the ship was beautiful, i wanted more than anything to be in one of those beautiful balcony rooms, and said "maybe?" to my surprise, he already upgraded us, WOW This experience has set the Bar high, I do not think i will ever cruise without this luxury. Big Room, excellent service, The evening room clean & towel animal, having our private coffee and balcony--what a way to relax and unwind. OH WAIT, I am not even close to the BEST, our first day, we tour the ships SPA, and MY GOSH, SOLD! Buy the upgrade right now, do not hesitate, this is so worth it. We spent a min of 3 hours a day here, Salt Bath, Sauna, Not so Hot Sauna, AromaTherapy Steam Room, Snow Room, Rain Shower, Stone Body Shaped heated Beds, facing the front of the ship, best view of anywhere, plus your own private pool, with HydroMassage, and a jacuzzi too, little extra's, private locker room, and robes. If you need to Chill, This is your Place for Sure. I am NOT DONE YET, THE SPA TREATMENTS, Mani/Pedi Christine is an Angel-better than anything ever experienced at home, My Hair Blowout by Sheva, I felt as if i was in London getting my hair finished for the Runway, My Skin is challenging it is dry and tiny pores, but Angelique had no problems and was able to without pain, extract milia that people can never get. I had 7 acupuncture appointment for my Chronic Shoulder, and a solution remedy to come home with, told I am acidic/(at home we cant get it fixed), I am much Better, Dr Yi 4th Generation Chinese Acupuncturist is amazing. The Itinerary On this ship kept us so busy, we had a Blast at all the Game Shows, Sing A Longs, Movies, Bingo, Comedy Shows, Dance Evenings, Art Gallery and the Auctions, plus plus plus. Excursions: we signed up for every island, and they were fantastic, ontime, so polite, and helpful, educated us with the lingo, and history, i felt as if i was part of a family. Now about the food: I loved the "Free Style", this was my FAVORITE, we ate in every place that was part of the package, they were all amazing and fantastic. Walk up and in, never had to wait. One Night we chose to sit with another couple in the Manhattan Room for an experience, WE had a BLAST, laughed all night, great time. and there is a dance floor to enjoy while you eat, with live music. This was the Best Experience of My Life! I STRONGLY RECOMMEND everyone to go, and enjoy!!!! . Read Less

Our 6th NCL and 3rd Escape Cruise did not disappoint! This is a big, beautiful, clean well run ship. From the smooth embarkation to the quick disembarkation, and everything in between, a truly nice trip. We would have preferred the original, Eastern Caribbean literary but understood the need for the change due to the hurricanes. Really enjoyed our Scuba Diving in the Grand Caymans, through Cayman Diving, AKA Divers Down. They arranged a refresher dive for my son and I as we had not dove in awhile. Hotel Director Deepak Punia and his Secretary Sharry really went above and beyond to make sure we were enjoying our cruise. I recommend going on the Cruise Critic Board above, finding your Roll Call and correspond with your fellow cruisers. Attend the Meet and Mingle, and if one isn't organized take the step and get one going. NCL makes it easy and fun. A great way to meet fellow cruisers and a lot of the ships officers. Time well spent! We did the Drink package and the 3 night specialty dining. Kind of fun trying out new drinks without having to worry about the cost. If the bar is busy a few tips go a long way in being remembered by the bartender... Cagneys was our favorite. Followed by Le bristro and La Cacinas. All very good. Our first time visiting Jamaica. We took the Shuttle to Montego Bay, Doctors Cave Beach. Very nice beach. Pay as you go kind of thing. The Entrance is kind of a store front where you pay to get in, rent chairs, umbrellas. Once in, a waitress is assigned to you and gets you food and drinks all day. Very relaxing. If you venture outside entrance, on the street outside, like we did, prepare yourself to be approached by very aggressive vendors.... In less then a block I could have bought weed three times. Port area very nice. We bought some nice hand made crafts from local craftsperson's, reasonably priced. Spent the day in Costa Maya at the Tropicante Bar/Restaurant/Beach Resort. Again, a pay as you go kind of place. Laid back, inexpensive, more authentic then the port area. To save time and money, go to the taxi stand right outside the gate. While on board attend the Glow Party. Ususally Thursday night at Spice H2O. Fun for all ages. Summarizing, in my opinion, the Escape is a great ship if you don't a specific style of cruise, (ie luxury, family, etc) The way I look at it is that NCL is building ships which try to offer something for all age groups. So if you want a quiet, luxurious experience, or a totally family oriented cruise I would suggest another line. If you are like us and are "go with the flow" kind of people, I think you will enjoy it as well. We keep coming back! Read Less

From senior staff on down every member of the crew works tirelessly to make your vacation the best ever. I have cruised on the Escape multiple times and it gets better each time. A big plus is The Waterfront. It is delightful to be out on the deck dining, drinking or just relaxing in the comfy outdoor furniture. I particularly like the Supper Club and each of the acts featured. The itinerary on my cruises has been Caribbean. Good news that new ports are planned. How exciting to be traveling to Bermuda in the future. The solo cabins and more importantly the solo travelers program are a huge plus. No one should hesitate to travel solo. There are excellent rates for all types of cabins if an interior location is not for you. The shore excursions booked through the ship have a big bonus. The ship will never leave anyone behind that is on one of their tours. Every person I have seen in the gym raves about the state of the art equipment. I only pass through the gym on my way to the thermal suite. Gazing at the water from one of those heated beds is my high point. Service is excellent particularly at the fabulous outdoor bars. My only suggestion is to keep children out of the specialty restaurants (or keep them in a separate area - too bad some parents have no idea how to teach manners) Read Less

We wanted to take a once in a lifetime type family vacation and the Escaoe delivered. We took our 3 kids ages 9,7,5. So many things to do on the ship, we didn’t even get off at two of the ports. Buffet is complimentary along with 4 other sit down restaurants. We ate at the buffet every meal except one one because it was super easy with the kids. If you are traveling with children here’s what you’ll want to know. Splash academy has free daycare until10:30pm with lots of group activities. The guppies nursery is there too for children under 3 I believe is the age limit . The super fast free fall drop slide called the aqua loop has a minimum 48” and 100lb. Weight limit but 40” requirement on the other aqua racer slide . There are 2 other water slides that my small 5 your old girl had no issues going down . Also the ropes course is awesome but does have a 48” minimum also need closed toe shoes and shorts (pretty strict) for this . They do have a course for the smaller children too but will need an adult accompanying . Also if first cruise the middle of ship on lower decks is really smooth riding. If you book a family room with picture window there is a bunk bed that comes down from cieling . You’ll have to ask them to lower it . We had them leave it down for entire trip. Our family of 5 fit fine in the room. We stayed in room 5776 on starboard side. Read the free newsletter they send out every morning and bring a highlighter to select programs/ games etc. that you want to catch because there are a ton, you won’t make them all.Have fun !!! Everything went smoothly. The food was awesome. The ports were ok not great but we just really went to enjoy our friends and the ship. Tubing was so much fun. We did they speciality dining 4 times which were great. We loved the Le Bistro the best. Cagneys was so good the food was awesome. Teppanki was a great show. La Cucina was our least favorite. The pool was always crowded but we always got chairs. The casino was awesome. The boat was kept very cleaned. The staff was awesome!! Getting on & off the ship was very easy. The pictures were very pricey so I did not buy a lot. The shows were good. Loved the Skyline Bar the best. Had great entertainment every night! We ate breakfast most days at the buffet but did try the main dining rooms as well. O’sheehan’s was also a good spot for breakfast or a quick bite. Read Less

After hearing from friends how great cruising is, husband and I elected to go on Norwegian's Escape to the Western Caribbean. To celebrate our 50th birthdays and 25th anniversary, we upgraded to (ok, booked) the Haven. It was the best choice of a wonderful week. I didn't have much time to plan for the trip, a significant problem for me since I'm normally obsessive about this sort of an event. Instead I just worried - I didn't book restaurants months in advance, I had no idea about the entertainment or excursions, tipping was a mystery. In the end, all I needed was my passport, regular clothes (you think you need all beautiful new stuff, but trust me you don't) and a bunch of small bills. Well, the bills were optional but that's just me. If you are in the Haven, you don't have to worry about booking in advance since they have seats set aside for pretty much everything. They bring you on & off whenever you are ready, so you don't have sweat the embarkation issue. The Haven restaurant was fabulous, so no need to book other restaurants, although we did. The stateroom was lovely, with plenty of space and storage. Loved every bit of it. They provide shampoo that doubles as body wash - it's nice if you aren't particular. You can also take the room phone with you anywhere on the ship, so that your partner can call you if you separate for activities. I didn't learn that one until too late. Kids: This was as good reminder to be thankful for my own. The kids on the ship were adorable. When they were a pain, I gave thanks that they weren't mine. But the tween and teen boys being distant and hiding behind phones when with their grandparents was just sad, and the toddler pooping in the hot tub was disconcerting. I do think that the Haven should have a few hours set aside for adults only in the pool & have one hot tub dedicated to adults only. That said, there were a couple of staff members who came and talked to the unruly kids. We picked our time based on when we thought we would be least likely to have a lot of kids. I can't imagine what it's like other weeks of the year. Honestly, though, it wasn't terrible. Restaurants: The Haven was my favorite. People complain that the menu doesn't change, but there is plenty of selection to try something different every night. The things I liked best weren't the ones I expected (or ordered first). Do go for variety the first few days to get an idea of the range. Every meal was excellent. I am a fan. That said, all the restaurants overcooked the seafood and under cooked the meat for my taste (medium rare was deep red and very soft in the middle). Bayamo seemed mainly focused on lobster and crab, which I think is why there was an upcharge. Neither of which is a huge draw for me and I didn't care much for the meal, though the bread was amazing. Note: you can have meals delivered to your room (not sure if this is a Haven-only thing), or the dessert you were too full to eat at the restaurant. You can also ask for appetizers from any of the restaurants for the mid-day snack when you return from whatever you are doing during the day. Warning: void the Supper Club at all cost! The music was great but the meal was my biggest regret of the cruise - because it was terrible, on the first night, and took away all other (all better) options. Note #2: there are crepes at the back of the main dining hall after about 6:30 every evening. I heard they were great but never tried them. Ship: It wasn't too terribly crowded for us, especially the last day when we elected to stay onboard instead of going into Nassau. I did the ropes course, bocce ball, mini-golf and hung out a bit in the main pool on a sailing day. I was surprised it wasn't more crowded, given the number of people on board and the limited options. I also played Bingo - I did it, so you don't have to. If you do play, don't be late. There were only 3 games for prizes. The cards came in sets for $40, $50 or $70 (all sets provided cards for all 3 games). Pots were $500, $700 and $1,088 for our 3 games, but all were split among multiple people. The big winner got $200. Seems like a bad deal, especially for families who likely paid close to the jackpot amount for their cards. Save it for a time when you don't have better options. We did the Cruise Critic Meet & Greet and the slot pull. We weren't feeling terribly social, so not so great for us, but I can see why others would like it. A slot pull would be a blast with a group you know well. Hard to really get to know anyone in this setting. Tip: waiting for the elevator could be long, but walking on the ship was easy and the stairs aren't bad. The elevator buttons are very responsive, so push the close buttons when you are ready to go. It was much faster that way. Entertainment: We loved the big shows and the dueling pianos (though ego there, which was kind of odd). The best entertainment on the trip was the Escape Room. We really loved that and felt like we got to know some folks a bit. We had a dating couple, a newlywed couple, a family with two brilliant young girls and wow, I guess that makes us the old people. Hmmm. It was really fun, though, even though we came in second by about 2 minutes. ARGH! As previously said, skip Bingo and the Supper Club. We gambled a little bit, but would rather do that when there aren't so many other great options. Spa: We loved the spa pass, though it was expensive and difficult to get there enough to make the cost worthwhile. The pedicure was the most expensive and the highest quality I have ever had. I was turned off by the negative commentary and constant sales pitches that happened during the pedicure and in the spa in general, though. I was there to relax, not get work done. It was really excessive. Excursions: Having planned nothing in advance, it all went great. The ship pulled in to every port earlier than anticipated. It was fun to watch the arrivals and docking. We also brought binoculars. The early arrival was most noteworthy for the day when we tendered, as they offered an early bird option for those who were ready. You can monitor where the ship is from the TV in the room. That's pretty much all we used the TV for during the cruise. Jamaica, Falmouth: We went to Turtle Falls. It was amazing. This is a place where you can literally go into the waterfalls. There was no one there but our little group of five, arranged by one member who had gone previously. We paid $35/each for a small bus (think minivan) to take us there, and it was $20 to get in. It was so worth it. It was like being in a dystopian paradise (there is an old condo complex that is falling into ruins). We heard stories about Dunns Falls, where it's so crowded people have to hold hands to walk up. We were the only ones at our place and we walked up *through* the falls. Amazing. Bring water shoes and wear a bathing suit. I think you could just book one of the drivers in the port if you don't have this already in place. Grand Caymen - Seems chaotic but go with the flow. Hop on the shuttle down to the beaches; don't worry, it's safe. We got a late start and there were many ships in port, but we still were easily able to get a lounger at Royal Palms. It was the exact opposite of Turtle River Falls, in that it was packed, but just as beautiful. You can pay $2 to get in to Royal Palms and $35 for two loungers and an umbrella. Or you can walk down a ways and find a bit of sand to lay down your own towel for free. Use caution once a taxi drops you back off at the port. There are two areas to get back onto different ships. We went to the wrong one initially. Costa Maya - Seven Mile Beach was similar to Grand Caymen in that that water was beautiful and the sandy beach was narrow. You can drop wherever you like with a towel. Not as good walking on the beach here, but the port seemed like a happening place. It's quite a distance to get to the cabs and the lines were long. You literally have to leave the gates of the port to get a cab, but it's safe and tons of other people are doing it too. Do not try to walk yourself to the beach - much too far. We went to the very end, at Nohoch Kay. Water was as warm as a bathtub and shallow for an extended period. No waves. We got a massage here, though I understand it was more expensive than other areas on the beach. You might want to ask around if you are interested. The food was excellent. Drivers here were not locals, so you should have an idea of where you are going. Read Less

This was our first time cruising with NCL and we enjoyed it very much. I think the best part was even though there were over 4,000 people on board we found a way to avoid the masses and that was very important to us. This was achieved a few different ways and we are thankful that this ship had these options. 1) free style dinning- love it - not once did we run into a massive group that was devouring food like they would never eat again. We had three speciality dinners that were all excellent and the other nights we ate at one of the main restaurants latter in the eveining and the food and the service was great. 2) our cabin - a wonderful large balcony made escaping a bit more easy and prior to sunset and before dinner we would grab some cocktails and some snacks and we would enjoy the tranquility . #3 - I am leaving this for last but make no doubt about it this was the best feature on this entire ship and that was the Thermal Suite. The cost was $200 per person and worth every penny we paid. Because of the cost this kept a lot of people away...perfect. Then when inside this Oasis everything was perfect. Floor to ceiling windows everywere including the lockers rooms. Heated, stone lounges so confrontable and relaxing, The pool with the waterfall and all the jacuzzi jets in it was pure bliss. Then 2 dry sauna's one incredible steam room and the icing on the cake...literally was the frozen room. The experiance was amazing and we were there every day . They also have a salt suite that was good - not sure how that works but was good. Our room steward was very attentive as was all the help we came in contact with. This ship also had GREAT entertainment! The two shows we saw were top notch and the musicians on board were very talented . I guess the only thing that was was weak were the excursions and we have found the finding something to do on your own is always a better way to go. Beautiful ship, great service and lots of ways to enjoy this fantastic ship without the rest of the crowd. Read Less

I Chose the Norwegian Escape from recommendations from others. My husband and 14 year old son had the greatest time on this ship. The family suite fit perfectly for the 3 of us. The staff was wonderful and the food was excellent. Between the Specialty restaurants and dining rooms I couldn't have asked for anything better. The ride was smooth and I was afraid of the ship rocking. I didn't feel a thing. The shows and entertainment kept my family and I very busy when we were at sea. My son loved the basketball court at the top of the ship. The shore excursion to a resort in Jamaica was amazing between the ride there and time spent on the resort we had a blast. Thank you to the staff at La Cusina who helped me and my husband celebrate our 20th anniversary with great dessert and food with laughter and fun. Read Less

Staff was great. But seemed less abundant than smaller ships. Entertainment was awesome as usual! Really use the touch screens to book shows. I showed up to most 30 minutes prior and was let in when the show showed sold out. Food was good but note the supper club never changed the menu. But changes the performers. We booked excursions outside of NCL, and they were great. Room designed to use every last inch.8th floor was awesome and quiet. Also were you can purchase great gelato. Didnt have the white party but have an fun neon party for family then 18+. The atrium was used alot more than on my past cruises. Shows that were in in the theaters in the past were held here. Not a bad thing as people stopped and watched. But do get there early if you want a seat. We also found a Starbucks on board, towards the end of the cruise at the atrium. Uber xl was about $40usd to mia from port. Read Less

We chose this cruise because my sister and brother in law recommended it. They have been on 24 previous cruises and made all the arrangements for ten of us. This was without a doubt the best vacation we have ever been on!!! The ship, the staff, the entertainment, and the drinks could not have been better. We are already talking about our next one. There was nothing better than relaxing poolside. We had such a great time getting to meet other people from all around and also talking with the staff. The specialty dining was first class, the food onboard the Escape is fabulous. This experience was one that me and my family will never forget and cannot stop talking about. We are recruiting more family members and friends to join us when we book our next cruise on Norwegian Cruise Line for the summer of 2020, hopefully we can sail on the newest ship of that time the Encore. Totally recommend a Norwegian Cruise to anyone looking to have the best family vacation ever!!! Read Less

We have been on NCL Escape before and absolutely love this ship. All staff/officers make us feel like family. We have developed such a wonderful relationship with so many of them. They treat us so special. Our cabin had a family balcony. It was so big. It had a lounge chair which we used to take naps or just enjoy the quiet time by reading or just relaxing on this wonderful large balcony. We enjoyed the Taste for breakfast as well as several dinners. The Taste always had superb food and service. Cagney's was one of two restaurants we also had dinner and it was fabulous. Our waiter, Ramesh, was outstanding. Also, had dinner at La Cuncina and it wads great ad well. The Garden Cafe was our go to for lunches and it was wonderful with such a large variety of different choices. Love the salad bar. All the entertainment on the ship is first class. Enjoyed all of it, including After Midnight, Brat Pack, comedy shows, music in the atrium, trivia, etc. Sorry to see the Escape going to New York, since we love it so much and was so convenient for us living within one hour of port of Miami. Long time planned trip with family from around the US. The Escape met all my expectations for our first cruise and avoided most of the "bad" parts I read in other reviews. Escape is a Mega ship 5000+ passengers and crew but other than a few popular events it didn't seem crowded at all, the ONE Pool was swarmed at all times but we're not pool people so... Embarking - Fairly quick and painless, much less hectic than I expected Cabin - 13910 aft balcony - seemed fine to me, but this was our first so nothing really to compare it to - Room steward Eddie was fantastic and everyone liked the view vs. the side balcony's Food - Buffet is a buffet...was good although crowded at times, once we learned it wrapped around the entire deck was a lot easier finding seats forward and aft. Did three specialty dinners, Cagney's Steak was ok, La Cucina was great, Tappanaki(sp) was fun but waay too much oil and butter lol, smelled like garlic for a day. Got the unlimited beverage package, well worth it for us, once I got recognized for tipping a few extra dollars had unending STRONG drinks lol. Hanging up top at the Waves bar was especially nice 4 Stops, Jamaica with a river tubing excursion was fun but check your trip as we passed a few closer river tubing runs on the 1 1/2 hour drive to ours, stopped for jerk chicken at Scotchies on the way back, was good! Next was Grand Caymen and Costa Maya - Just shopped around there, then lastly Bahamas, one of my favorite ports although the stores got repetitive but by far the cheapest shopping On board activities were many and the few we did were fun, bingo, the Brat Pack show and a few others, wife really enjoyed the Brat Pack (80s show) Wifi package I bought was wasted, used about 10 of 100 minutes as we had a $10 per port package from our carrier that worked a lot better! Only really used Norwegians internet it the last day to check into our flight while at the last port. The iConcierge app was pretty much useless, messages were sporadic when they came at all and everyone has to buy the app 3.99 then another 9.99 for the week in order to message them - Wont use it again I dont think... Disembark was quick, got up early had breakfast, said goodbyes and got off with the last group, it dumps you into a warehouse with color coded areas to find your bags, or you can carry your own off, we didn't have any problems with it, then a short line to customs and off to the airport ( ugh another story) Overall was a fun experience we'd done land based resorts before but this has us thinking about another cruise Read Less

I had never cruised before setting sail with Norwegian Escape. I had heard plenty of stories and had an idea of what to expect, but this experience was more amazing than I ever could have imagined! We were absolutely blown away with every new meal, drink, excursion and activity! The excursions were fairly priced and easy to navigate. As first time cruisers we were a little nervous about the process of getting on/off the ship, but between the cruise directors daily announcements, our Freestyle brochure, and easy to follow signs we had no trouble at all! Every ticket we needed for the excursions were brought to our rooms and we had reminders every morning of where to be at what time! The entire staff was courteous, friendly and helpful! We made friends with a hand full of bartenders, Oodesh, Gilbert and Christian, who were all funny and amazing with a shaker! We were taken great care of in every dinning hall, which were mind blowing on there own. The food, the atmosphere and the service was incredible. The entertainment was diverse and fun, every step you took there was a new activity going on to fit the needs of every guest on board. If we never had to leave, we wouldn't have! We considered hiding in our closets!! Thank you Norwegian Escape! We have a new, amazing way to travel!! Read Less
