Very disappointed with Explorer 2 as was not as good as Explorer 1. Didnt look or feel like been refurbished. Cabin bathroom grotty, particularly shower smelled and grubby. Bar staff unfriendly and rude, never smiled, communication poor. Dirty mop left in pool shower all day, pools small and dirty, all 4 jacuzzis didnt work all week, beds crammed in, very noisy all day like Butlins on Board, tacky and cheesy or trying to sell stuff on screen! Breakfast cold, not much selection, no omlette station, no service on the terrace or bar, no atmosphere dead at terrace end of ship at night. Clock by pool didnt work all week, drink stations didnt work, or no cups, very poor! Even online feedback didnt work. Many complaints from others about no escape from noise level, nowhere outside quiet or able to relax with service. Food was average, needed to book trips as not much near ports! Couldn't understand daily announcements. Read Less

We wanted to do something special for our Silver wedding anniversary so we decided on the Adriatic Affair itinerary, where we celebrated our vows, followed by a hotel stay. The whole experience was fantastic. All of the staff were friendly, helpful and hardworking and the ship was lovely. Patrick, our cabin steward, was lovely. Nothing was too much trouble for him. I had a light mishap with my dress, when we were getting ready for dinner at the captain’s table; however, some of the stewards were quickly on hand with a sewing kit, so a disaster was avoided. The food and drink were plentiful. We upgraded to premium all inclusive due to us preferring ‘zero’ pop, and my husband’s love of coffee. Our Celebration of Vows, in Venice, was perfect, and Elaine ( the social/welfare hostess) ensured that everything was perfect! It was lovely that she could share our special moment with us, along with the lovely Captain Nikos. We have got some lovely photographs that were taken by the onboard photographer. Overall, we had a wonderful experience, and will definitely be back on the Celebration as soon as we can. Read Less

Having booked Merella explorer 2 as our first cruise was a choice well made. The ship is an older ship nearly 25 years old and is showing its age here and there although the ship has gone through a refit in March and those additions have added greatly to the experience. A negative was the lack of toilets on the main restaurant decks 5,6 and 7. That was the only negative. The staff were excellent and the food and drink packages were again value for money. The entertainment was good throughout the ship and the silent disco is something to behold. The cabin we had was on deck 9 with a balcony, it was spacious, the bathroom was well proportioned with the shower enclosure big enough for me as I'm six foot four. The pool deck area had enough sun loungers for all the guests and the bar staff ensured your drinks were topped up continually. On the whole it was a superb holiday with way more positives than negatives. Read Less

We flew into Naples airport expecting the worse but were pleasantly surprised as we encountered no problems other than waiting 40mins for our luggage to come through.TUI staff were on hand to guide us onto the waiting buses and in a short time we were at the port ready to board the ship.We had to go through some security checks before boarding, but this is perfectly understandable in this day and age.The ship itself is modern and clean and fairly easy to find your way around,we found the different colour carpets to be a big help with this.We ate mainly in the Market Place during the day and Latitude 53 for evening meals where we were expected to dress in smart casual to eat here.We found the food here very good with mostly different things on the menu every evening and the waiter service excellent. On one night we paid approximately £50 for the two of us to book into Kora La for a meal, although this is extra to the all inclusive we found it to be well worth the money as the food and service provided was exceptional.Special mention for Albert who went out of his way to look after us that night. We had paid for the Premium package for drinks and as my wife enjoys different types of gin and I enjoy my whisky we found this to be value for money, again special mention to Rommel in the Gin and Whisky bar in the Squid and Anchor a top class barman. We enjoyed some of the shows in the Broadway Showroom also.We did not go on any excursions preferring to find our own way around the lovely cities we visited. All in all a great first cruise experience, looking forward to the next. Absolutely fantastic first cruise. I Love Marella Discovery 2, in my opinion the perfect size ship for our first experience, not overwhelmingly big but still with lots of choice and plenty of things to do. The Crew went above and beyond for us. The Food was fantastic and the entertainment was incredible. I travel with a wheelchair and was worried about getting about but the crew were so helpful, the weather was rough on the first day and I struggled but there was always someone on hand to help. I even got table service in the self service restaurant so that I didn’t have to carry anything. The cabin was very comfortable and the chocolate on our pillow every evening a lovely touch. We only had a week and there was so much that I didn’t get to try, too much to fit into one week. I Can’t wait to book again. TUI excursions were very well organised and the guides very informative. We stuck with the basic all inclusive package and this still gave plenty of choice. Thank you Captain and crew. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the itinerary, wanted to see the north of iceland and fjords of Norway. This two week cruise from Newcastle was ideal. We had read of issues with embarkation at Newcastle with past Marella cruises so were prepared. We arrived (having spent the night in Newcastyle) by Taxi at about 12:00 noon and were dropped off as instructed by port officials at the 'red terminal building' with our cases. We waited in a queue for maybe 5 minutes before leaving our cases and recieving an envelope from the staff on duty, ,walked outside to the suttle bus and were taken to the main port terminal. We were then given cruise cards and asked to wait until called. We were priority so did not wait however those with us at that time 12:15 did not wait long before being processed and re-bussed to the ship. Our friends who were self drive and park took ages to get on board, they arrived at the parking at 13:00 and did not get on board until 15:00. So I would suugest arriving earlier to avoid a long wait. Disembarkation was easy. We had cabin 12031. Really good, modern and clean. Food on board was fine. Long waits for tables in Vista (italian) at peak times, paigers given out however they only reached as far as the adjacent bar, no issues if you could find a seat. This is a small bar with liuttle seating. Vista was good. MDR had no real wait but some queueing. Plenty of tables for two if needed but all (most) were very close to each other, Food here was hit and miss as was service, service at times in certain sections was very slow, sometimes without a smile however generally waiting staff tried hard and worked hard. We tried Surf and Turf, Asian Fustion and the Dinning Club , Surf and Turf was rushed and ordinary, steaks were OK but the atmosphere was lacking, we had so many waiters it was hard to keep track, Asain fusion was OK. Marco (in charge of this section) is so good and deserves a special mention. The Dinning Club although the most expensive was really really good, the night we ate there the food was to die for as good as any restaurant we have dined in over the last few years. Wiat staff on point, explained everything to you, service was not rushed. We met Stanley the chef and gave him 10 out 10. Its expensive however if you have special event on board just try it. We up graded the drinks package as we like real coffe ( no charge at the coffee pot), really enjoyed the whiskeys and gins in the whisky and gin bar and the fact that Fever tree tonic comes with this package, as does better wines and proper canned drinks. We were less keen on the lay out the ship-it did not flow from aft to stern. There is no bar near the Show lounge so unless you want the bottled beer or pre-poured wines you had to remember to get your drink befotre the show-no table service either in teh show lounge. Drinks were a little inconsistant-in indego some were good some were not as different mixers made different cocktails, some cokctails on the pool deck bar were undrinkable.Never had a real problem in delays getting served. Seats in the Indego lounge were at times hard to find as this was a cold weather cruise lots of people 'camped' for the day inside in an area to read not caring that others wanted to sit and listen to music , bands or do teh quizzes. Shows were not so good. Singers and dancers tried but the 'shows' did not really suit the audience. Previous Marella cruises had more 'professional looking shows. Some people were dismayed (given the continued controversy around Michael Jackson) that he 'won' the soul award. Maybe Marella should look at that one as despite his music he has become a controversial figure. Staff were as usual very friendly, they all speak and say hello and most do enjoy a chat. Our cabin stewrads were wonderful, always chatty and we had lots of towel animals. Some of the excurstions did seem a bit overpriced. We like to do our own thing however on this cruise due to the small nature of ports of call its not always possibnle. The Flam railway is very expensive for what it is, half and hour up the mountain (scenery is nice) a stop not quite at the top for awful coffe and a cold waffle and half an hour down again. Its very hyped however there is not much else to do in port. All in all we enjoyed the cruise, were happy with the ship, really happy with our chosen cabin and found teh food fine. We would use Marella again. Read Less

We are a young couple having just been on Marella's inaugural 'Land of Fire & Ice' cruise. Everything about this sailing was fantastic. The itinerary (Kirkwall, one day at sea, Akureyri, Isafjordur & Reykjavik, two days at sea, Flam, Bergen, Eidfjord, Haugesund & Kristiansand, one day at sea) was obviously well thought through and every port of call was like a picture postcard, rain or shine. Our inside stateroom cabin on Deck 4 was very peaceful, allowing for plenty of sleep. The room was also kept spick and span by cabin steward Majol who like many other cabin staff on board was also an expert at creating animals/roses out of towels. The excursions we took all had informative guides and were great value for money. We ate in The Market Place buffet most nights, switching to The Mediterranean Italian restaurant (included in the price of the cruise) for two others. The food in both was tasty, of good quality and varied. The variety of all inclusive alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks was also impressive with a range of beers, wines, spirits, cocktails and mocktails. Having been on two previous cruises (with Celebrity and another Marella ship) the nightly shows on this ship were by far the best. The production of each one was of a professional standard and some of the singers (especially leading lady Rianna) wouldn't have sounded out of place in the West End. The guest entertainers (Bryan Adams UK tribute & stand up comic Josh Adams) were also worthy additions to the line up. Other entertainment on board included regular films on the pool deck or indoor cinema, quizzes and gameshows in the Squid n Anchor pub, lectures in the theatre, a decent gym, Playstation gaming and a range of small sports facilities. For £50 per person per week (£200 overall for me and the wife) we also bought a cruise pass for the onboard Champneys Spa. With all things considered (including 2x saunas, 2x steam rooms, foot spa, heated bench, hot & cold showers, a blue relaxation room, thermal garden and relaxation lounge complete with double beds looking out the front of the ship) this was unbelievable value, especially if used most days. The spa also offers a range of consultations (including food intolerance tests and beauty treatments) at reasonable prices. Special shout outs go to Sophie, Michelle and James in the Bike Tour team. Having ridden with Sophie on last years cruise in Skiathos, we rode again in Kirkwall and Kristiansand this time around. Sophie's routes ensure you get a comprehensive tour of the place you're in. These rides cater for a range of abilities and ages with the team ensuring no one gets left behind with plenty of encouragement given. Just expect a few hills and distances between 12 to 25 miles with regular drink and photo stops on the way. We would recommend these tours to anyone with a reasonable level of fitness and met some lovely people (Allan and Leslie if they read this) from these tours. Overall, it was a holiday of a lifetime and incredible value to boot . With the cost of everything in Iceland and Norway (where a standard pint of beer costs around £10 to £12 in each place to use a typical British financial comparison) if we went everywhere the cruise took us on our own steam, we would have paid thousands and thousands of pounds more. In fact the only gripe we had at all was with some other guests on board, especially those of a certain advanced age. Complaint after complaint after complaint, none of which were warranted. The kind of people who try and get a chef sacked if the consistency of the mashed potato isn't exactly to their liking or wake up every morning itching to find anything to moan about. As Marella seem to be doing this itinerary again in 2020, just go for it. During our two Marella cruises we have wanted for nothing on board and cannot fathom how anyone can gripe about anything. 100% recommended to all ages! Read Less

Loyal Marella customers. This was our second cruise on this ship. It has definitely improved since our last voyage on her - you can tell that the team have settled in and the snagging issues from earlier this year have gone. The ship is being maintained nicely and the public areas are still very fresh. The only snag being that the air conditioning didn’t seem to cope very well when the ship was in port. Our cabin was one of the two Royal Suites on board and it was worth every penny. Very luxurious and comfortable. There always seemed to be some form of entertainment going on around the ship. We saw a few of the shows and also watched the comedians (note to the unaware - stay well away from the front few rows If you don’t want to be the butt of any jokes!). We preferred the pianists in Flutes and Aperitif over the more formal entertainment like the shows. As always with Marella, the thing that made it so good was the service that the staff offered. So many of the staff remember us from previous cruises - it was lovely. A special thanks to Simina the sommelier, the wine tasting she does on sea day is really good fun and informative. She looked after us for the rest of our cruise surprising us with nice wines. Dining was great. From the al a carte dining we went to Surf and Turf, Kora La and the Dining Club. All well worth a visit! The only downside with this particular cruise has to be Naples airport. Really really bad. Stressful. Made better by the fact that the TUI cabin crew warned us before we got off that it ‘runs on Italian time!’ That bit of good humour kept everything in perspective. We waited on the aircraft for 40 minutes on the tarmac before the busses came to take us to the airport. We were told by the screens to wait at luggage belt 5 and then an hour later were told to move to belt 1, and then it took another 30 minutes for luggage to arrive that then got stuck at the entrance to to belt and other passengers had to pull it through. It was also quite a walk to the coach transfer in the heat so if you do have anyone in your party with a disability make sure you ask for assistance. The return experience was just as shambolic with no where to sit while you wait (think people actually arguing over seats!!!), so again if you struggle I would be requesting a wheel chair. Read Less

To celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. Have Cruised before around UAE but the Greek island cruise all inclusive seemed ideal. We were looked after immediately we stepped aboard, went to our cabin 8229 aft of the ship and found it was very clean with sufficient space. The bathroom was good with an excellent shower. Every time we ventured through the Ship and returned to Cabin it had been cleaned and tidied as if by magic, the cabin crew were excellent as were rest of crew can't speak highly enough of them. The Dining was very good with plenty of choice and if you asked for something not on menu the staff would try to serve you with alternative. I must repeat the staff were excellent. The shows were very good it was obvious that entertainment team had spent many hours rehearsing. seating was very comfortable, the only negative of cruise is what happens on all cruises and thats passengers who think they own the sunbeds, however even this problem was addressed with the introduction of 45 minute rule, if beds were vacated for 45 mins then towels were removed a great idea that should be implemented on all ships and holiday resorts. Went on Discovery 2 last year - Eastern Med and loved it so tried Western Med this year. No complaints. Food excellent, staff superb. Relaxed cruise and would recommend. Entertainment hit and miss. Loved the comedian but didn't like the crew's musical. Squid and Anchor pub was a popular venue, got quite busy. Personally would only cruise for a week. We did cruise and stay and stayed in Sorrento after the cruise which was fab. Had an outside cabin with a window and it was more than adequate, not luxurious but you don't spend much time in your cabin. Discovery and Explorer quite similar. More restaurants on Explorer but missing the lovely Atrium on the Discovery. Swings and roundabouts really. If I had to pick a negative it would only be in relation to the ports on this cruise. They were all commercial ports and if you didn't choose to do the excursions on offer which were quite expensive you had to get a bus or taxi to get off the port. The ports of call we visited in the eastern med, we could just walk off the ship into town. Everyone - guests and crew were so friendly and if you had a problem they would sort it out for you. Wouldn't hesitate to book another Marella cruise. If you want a 'posh' cruise and wear your evening gowns and tuxedos every night this is probably not for you. We loved it! Read Less

We sailed on this ship last year at the same time and it was amazing. So good we booked this year. Sadly it was nothing like last year. Check in etc went smoothly and boarding was great. We had an outside plus cabin on Deck 10. Room was comfortable and cleaned every day. However after 3 days the toilet stopped flushing. This was reported only to find on my return the bathroom had flooded and was under 4 inches of dirty water. This was reported again and sorted in a few hours but the toilet never worked properly after this. The bath and shower also leaked regularly. We were premium all inclusive and paid for this as an extra. This is sooo not worth it. My husband drinks cider but after the first day they ran out of Magners then after day 2 they were out of bulmers cider. He then switched to Corona which was becoming difficult to gt in certain bars and getting a diet coke is impossible. On several occasions the bars and restaurants were understaffed compared with last year sometimes waiting 20 to 30 minutes to get a drink only then to be given the wrong drink. It is also clearly apparent that some staff were being tipped (which is supposed to be included) and then focused more on those passengers. The ship apparently had 400 more people on board this year and you could definitely tell. All the pools were family friendly with up to 20 kids dive bombing into the water with no consideration for others or their own safety. Lots of children everywhere even in the bars at 1am still playing, Plenty of underage teenagers drunk in the Waters Edge every night taking the mickey out of a couple of special needs passengers, with no security to be seen anywhere. I Have nothing against children being on a cruise ship as I work with teenagers and took ours on holiday with us for years but surely there should be an element of control by parents and staff regarding some of the behaviour we witnessed. Booked the hot stone restaurant as this was truly awesome last year. Could only get a table at 18.30 but went anyway . only to discover kids still playing and splashing in the pool next to where you eat, then 2 maintenance men turned up to suck dirty water from the drains whilst people were eating. The smell was horrific. Terrible service when you are paying for this as an extra. We did not pay nor did the the other table behind us. Visited the Orion restaurant and the staff at Donalds station were amazing and worked very hard but they were run off their feet every day to the point we left without waiting for dessert. This was also attributed to a crew member arriving for dinner with his partner. At which point all surrounding diners were ignored and were left waiting for main courses and desserts as all the attention was focused toward the crew member. Appalling as the paying customer should be served first especially as we had waited 30 minutes for our mains and they had had their bread, wine starter and main served to them both whilst we were still waiting for our dinner..This is not their fault and we appreciated all they did for us. Entertainment disappointing when compared to last year, some shows were ok others just rubbish. Band in the Waters Edge but again not as good as last years band who were great and singing and entertained as well. We encountered terrible weather so completely missed one port then got stuck waiting for the tender due to sea swell and a storm. Then 70mph for about 10 hours which caused us to be ill for the day. Great getting us through it though. Excursions we did independently so cant comment. We were so excited for this cruise as last year was top notch, however this has put us off going on a Tui ship ever again. Think Jeremy Kyle at sea everyday for a week and this is what you'll get. Such a disappointment. Poor show. This ship needs to be decommissioned as it is literally falling apart. Read Less

From the minute we arrived in the airport everything went smoothly up to when we arrived back a week later. Tui staff extremely organised and helpful. Would like to give a special mention to the bartender Philip "beep beep - love is in the air" and Lewis our fantastic cabin house keeper. Nothing was too much for Lewis. Both guys were so accommodating and super friendly. They deserve recognition for all the hard work and politeness they showed us all. Food was perfect for all my family. Great variety. Broadway shows in the evening were not great, we expected so much more. The entertainment team again just our opinion screeched through many of if not all the songs they sang. Many people walked out during each show. (Hate to give a negative comment) regardless it does not warrent a rate reduction in my opinion because you can see they work very hard. We thought it was such a nice touch from Shane to bring many of the team on stage the evening before so we could say thank you to all the wonderful staff. It was emotional. In a lovely way. These guys work so hard to give us the hard earned holiday. We did a few excursions all booked via Tui all went so easy and very reasonable. We would not recommend purchasing WiFi, £40 for one day and signal kept dropping more so than having it. Went to reception twice got no satisfaction. So it really was a waste of money. My daughter had a facial and I had a wash and blow dry in the spa. Both were fantastic, very well priced also. Both lovely ladies that pampered us. We have not knocked any points off for our cruise as overall we enjoyed immensely, thank you to all marella dream. Read Less

As this was our first cruise, we didn'tknow what to expect, but the holiday exceeded our expectations. The staff were brilliant. Very helpful and polite and nothing was too much trouble. Some parts of the ship did look a little tired but this did not spoil our cruise experience. Our cabin on deck 4 was fine. The bed was really comfortable. The cabin wasnt huge but it was functional. We ate in the Lido and Orion restaurants. We didn't have a bad meal during the week. The food was plentiful - you could eat all day, every day if you wanted. We upgraded to premium all inclusive which was worth the money. We went on the excursion to Florence and Pisa. Well organised but a long day in 40 degree temperatures. In the other ports we stopped at we were able to walk or get a shuttle into the city. We had a tender from the ship into Monaco, and on returning to the ship, the weather had taken a turn. The tender pilot was brilliant and skillful in getting us back in rough sea. Entertainment was great and there was something for everyone. We visited the gym a couple of times which had a lot of equpment for a relatively small ship. The organisation during embarking and disembarking was excellent. Plenty of staff to help. We will definitely be going again. Read Less

Met up with friends for this cruise. We all felt standards have dropped. Undercooked and cold food in islands. Much better in 47. Less staff so cleaning in toilets was less often also running out of toilet paper . Too much of demonstrating and upselling of spa treatments. Sunbed reserving time limits not enforced. Music volume too loud in all venues. Smoking areas too small. Let smokers back on one side of deck 9 so they can join in with deck 9 entertainment. Increase tables and chairs smoking area on deck 4. Special praise goes to Alster and Rosemarie waiters from the live room. Kept everyone topped up with drinks and chat. Was impressed by bath towel size but sometimes they were stained. No need to upgrade to premium drinks package. Excursions too pricey. Aircon not working properly in both cabins. Had cruise cough when returned home. Corfu airport disabled area not big enough and not enough seats. We also had a couple of the same shows the second week. Read Less

The full cruise was an adventure from start to finish. The on board team and crew were enthusiastic, friendly and most helpful when needed. There are so many crew I would like to mention, but some individuals deserve highlighting. Our cabin servicer PUTU was great, he was helpful and did his job to the highest standards, he is a credit to the ship and the team on it. The Bar teams were mind readers......they knew exactly what my wife and I drank without us even asking....Ervin and Wilson in the Horizons and Kumar, Sheldon, Kenneth and Sushil in the Hemmingway's Bar were always on hand even at daft O'clock in the morning. The food was very good and the shows were entertaining. The staff in the restaurants were great, they even sang Happy Birthday…..which was a memorable moment when the kitchen team came out front. The cabin had plenty of room in it with plenty of storage space for the belonging we took and the extras my wife always manages to accrue whilst we were away. The holiday was a special celebration for my wife, the extras didn't disappoint. The flowers the cake and the in cabin decorations were well received and appreciated….oh yes and the bubbly and strawberries went down a treat. we are looking already for next years cruise. Read Less

We did Greek Getaway followed by Mediterranean Gems. The destinations were all excellent and both weeks were completely different. We did 3 trips: Mykonos beach trip, Pompeii and Herculaneum and Inside Pisa. We enjoyed them all but I would have liked a little free time in Pompeii to absorb the atmosphere. On board we usually managed to get a subbed although in the sea days we had to be up early. Bar and restaurant staff were friendly and efficient. Basic drinks package was ok we didn’t upgrade but paid extra occasionally for premium drinks, we found this cheaper than if we had upgraded. Food was all good, we ate in latitude and vista in the evenings, beach cove at lunchtime and market place for breakfast. The ship was freezing due to the air conditioning being set at too low a temperature. There weren’t enough toilets and the queue in the ladies of an evening was always long, not helped by the fact that on several occasions only one toilet was in use. The broadway shows were excellent and we liked the said and anchor of an evening. Our cabin was well looked after by Nur, it was a bit noisy at night, there were a lot of unexplained bangs. I was disappointed that the Captains dinner has been replaced by Dress to Impress as I feel that not having a special occasion to dress up for meant less people did dress up, this took some of the glamour away for me. I had to visit the Medical Centre and was very well looked after by all of the staff there, I felt confident with both their diagnosis and treatment. Overall it was an enjoyable cruise with some amazing destinations which I would like to return to. Read Less

we choose this cruise for many many reasons. here is a few, not in any order of preference. 1. we can fly direct from Belfast International Airport to Palma on a Tui flight. 2 the transfer from the flight to the ship is absolutely painless, this is especially helpful as both myself and my wife have severe mobility problems. 3 we knew, from past experiences, the crew and facilities would be perfect for us as a retired couple, absolutley no hassle at all. complete relaxation as soon as we reached our deck 9 cabin (9040) we have no complaints whatsoever about any aspect of the 14 night cruise. The crew were magnificent. Fiendly, down to earth and overflowing with happiness. One guy shone out above the rest. his name is Philip, a young Jamaican. He literally, ran around the ship doing his job as a bar tender. he has this constant set of rhymes. "No card, no charge.......no fear, love is here..........spread the love'. these are accompanied by his hand bell ringing and his cry of "beep. beep" to clear his path. he kept everyone near him in fits of laughter. Every time there was live music on the Sirens pool deck or in the Medusa lounge in the evenings (watch him go at the last night Bandjam)......he gave us a demonstration of an amazing dance routine. It was worth the money just to witness his performance. We say "well done our kid"!! We dined in the evening in the Orion restaurant. We received a really professional, courteous service. The menu was varied but not outstanding. The portions are small but if you include soup/salad as well as a starter you will be fairly well filled. We used both the Lido and the Sirens buffet style restaurants for breakfast and the terrace grill for lunch. No complaints about either although some of hot food in Sirens was not always "piping hot" even the hot water for tea was not boiling hot. The entertainment was excellent. The young show team were brilliant, both as a team but also individuals. Maria, Jake and especially Matt gave us three amazing solo cabaret performances in Tides bar. Muzzic Unlimited were the resident band in the Medusa lounge. We enjoyed their performances particularly Romeo we he sang pieces like "Nessen Dorme and O Sol Mio". However we thought they could have reduced the sound a bit as it was very loud to our ears. We spent our evenings in Tides bar listening to a tremendous duo called "Tointense" or to everyone around, Tom and Maris. We just loved their music and their interaction with each other (the banter) and with the audience. They took time between each set to walk among the guests, chatting to everyone and expressing their appreciation of our presence. They also helped make our cruise the very very best. The amazing evergreen Mr Keith Kerslake shared the time in Tides with Tom and Maris. What more can be said about Keith? He just gets better and better every year. He is such a thoroughly nice guy, an expert pianist who gives his very best performance every time he gets behind the grand piano. He invented the Marella Dream last night "Bandjam". Just a couple of negatives and maybe a word of advice. We were quite shocked and so very disappointed on the crew night (July 19th 2019) to hear the compare (David) make remarks about male genital parts when many children were visibly in the audience. He also thought there was some humour in unhelpful and unnecessary remarks he made, in this age on inclusivity, about private and personal things that happen in a LGBT relationship. He also tried (failed miserably) to make some very antiquated joke about the "Humpty Dumpty" nursery rhyme as well as some other silly thing he picked up second hand from a bygone era. Wisdom and discretion do not seem to be know to him. He is not hard to spot. He eats alone, mostly beside the pool on Sirens deck. The rest of the team seldom are seen in his company except when they share in hosting a game. He is far too old to be involved in this kind of work. He can't sing, he can't dance and his English vocabulary equals a Year 3 primary school child. his two oft repeated expressions....."there you go" and its variant "there you have it". He seems to speak through his nose and has a personality resembling a dead fish including the vacant look on his,now moustached, face. His most outstanding feature is his "beer belly" hanging over his pants. The many ports we visited were full of interest for those who like to explore. They have a few downsides. The ship docks quite far away from the main places of interest and it usually costs around 5 Euros return to make the trip by coach. However these journey are operated and controlled locally and it can be very hard to get a bus/coach back to the ship and can involve a lot of waiting around due to the lack of a reliable timetable. We found the tours to be far too expensive and unsuitable for us due to our limited mobility. We would strongly advise future cruisers on the wonderful "Dream" ship to pack a warmish jacket, cardigan, light sweater for the evenings. The lounges,Tides, Medusa, Explorers and Water's Edge and quite cold with a noticeable cold air conditioning draft prevalent irrespective of where you sit. The bathroom is not large. It has the usual toilet, washbasin and over the bath shower and hair dryer. We found it impossible to get the temperature right with the shower. It either burned or was freezing cold. We asked for it to be fixed but this never happened. In summary. we have been cruising for over 20 years, completing over 40 cruises with Celebrity (the worst ever company...a "never again experience"), P & O. Ocean Village, NCL. Fred Olsen, Star Cruises Etc. Nowadays we don't look anywhere else. We know before we leave, we will not need to pay tips, we will not be paying for refreshments, our account will be in good old United Kingdom Sterling with no "Dollar Inspired add ons" (one of the tricks from the greedy USA owned Cruise companies that seem to have the habit of crashing into things or losing passengers overboard), we will be pampered from the moment we board the plane till we touch down on our return by the fantastice Tui/Marella team. For myself and my wife from July 16th till 30th 2019 we have had the best cruise ever. Well done the Tui/Marella team from our wonderful Karen Crothers and the rest of the staff in our local Tui shop in Newtownards to Captain Alan Macary and his entire crew///abundant thanks....we will return, God willing next year Read Less

We liked the ports of call & the fact that we could leave from Newcastle. Having never sailed from there before we stayed in South Shields the night before to make the journey to the port easier. We had asked TUI about wheelchair assistance to the ship & was told that Tui did not offer that service( at any of their ports worldwide) but we could take our own wheelchair. Arrived at the port around 10-30 to be told TUI had a policy of not letting passengers into the pre- booked parking area till 11-45 so we tried again at 11-35 to be in a cue of around 20 + vehicles, with nearly 200 already parked. In the embarkation hall there were wheelchairs available if required & early boarding. The boarding process was quite lengthy with periods of standing in line waiting for the shuttle bus to the ship. The ship was quite well set out & easy to get round. We used the main dining room most nights & the service ranged from very good to awful, sadly more awful times & the food choices terrible, no better in the buffet either. For us the entertainment was of a pretty poor standard, so we did our best to avoid it. Ports & shore excursions were very good & well organised. On the final 2 days my wife was feeling unwell( either a cold or flu ) we think due to the A/C mainly in the cabin. A couple of days after arriving home I also became unwell & 1 week later we are both under the weather & unable to go about our normal day to day activities. This was only our second TUI cruise & will be our last! Read Less

Check in at Newcastle went pretty smooth,Considering it's not a cruise terminal but a working port, Our cabin was 9148,was excellent, huge balcony, with hammock, sun lounger,2 chairs & a table, which was not quite ready when we got there, but our steward did let us hang my wife's dresses in 2 dress bags,& our coats up on the wall hangers,to save carrying them around for an hour or so,When we returned an hour later, the dresses had gone, the cabin steward denied ever letting us in,then couldn't understand what we were trying to explain that 6 dresses had gone from our cabin,On our way to reception I just happened to glance into the cabin stewards room (which was open & ajar) & there was all the dresses & coats, dumped on the floor,To say that we were unhappy is an understatement to say the least,We went for a cuppa to calm down before go to reception,After we did calm down,We decided to let the matter drop,We didn't want to see the poor steward getting into trouble,or worse. There are 2 bands on board Rhythm who are very good,Girl sounds like Stevie Nicks,The Beats also very good, guest acts were very good with the exception of the "Comedian" who was absolutely dire,Got to be the worst I've ever seen,I couldn't believe the amount of people who walked out of the theatre,Don't know how he makes a living from it,BUT he can certainly hold a note,What a singer.Theater cast were also excellent.Surf & Turf & Kora La are well worth that little bit extra for a different dining experience,Not worth the extra for premium drinks as all we wanted was the all inclusive menu,Which ends at 02:00 hrs,But they did announce it in the club,The silent disco is a MUST,Hilarious. Overall a good cruise & good itinerary. Read Less

We wanted to visit the Baltic region and the itinerary looked good Embarkation was very easy and well organised. We had a short wait for our luggage but took the time to explore the ship. We dined in all the restaurants with the exception of the sushi bar.and found the food to be fair to good in the market place but we preferred latitude 53 and the supplement restaurants (surf and turf, kora - la and the dining club) where the food was absolutely amazing. The only small niggle was that there wasn't much information on the ports to allow you to go it alone. We had done research before we left but would have appreciated maps and guidance from destination services. We booked with a Russian tour company (TJ TRAVEL ) for the 2 day stop over in Saint Petersburg. There appeared to be a bit of overkill about the need for visas and the potential problems that could arise in Russia unless a Tui excursion was booked. We had an absolutely fabulous time with TJ TRAVEL with no problems at all. We attend the ballet with Tui which was lovely and fairly priced As always the crew were all very helpful and always smiling despite their heavy workload Overall the cruise was busy. We were blessed with good weather so managed a bit of sun bathing an a dip in the pool. Read Less
