First time and we wanted to go to Jamaica, Grand Caymon, and Cozumel. Trip was diverted to the Bahamas due to Dorian, but Cookie, the cruise director, made the trip. He was witty, funny, and brought great energy to every event. We are still quoting him days after the trip and always looked forward to his announcements. If we book again, we will actually try to book one with him. The comic, Macio was for real funny. Best comedy I’ve ever heard. Activities were amazing and the excursion was fun. We did the stingray experience but would have done the dolphin swim if it would have been available. It looked amazing to watch others swim with the dolphins. Leo was a lot of fun too and a good host and comic. The swimming pools were a little crowded but expected. Would have stayed at the Havana area for the private pool if it would have been available. Spa tour seemed a little pushy and I’ve had treatments before and those were expensive and the benefit claims were a little exaggerated. Overall, great cruise and experience. Read Less

Celebrating 65th Birthday with an amazing cruise to Alaska was the trip of a lifetime. We started in Seattle with a tour of Mt. Rainier which was lovely. Perfect weather in Seattle. Embarkation was easy, efficient and smooth. We were in our balcony cabin shortly after boarding, unpacked and joined the sail away celebration. Star Princess was beautiful. Dining in all the venues was delicious and plentiful, our favorite was Crab Shack and The Crown Grill, The buffet was delicious and plentiful with lots of seating. We never had a problem finding something to eat and somewhere to sit. The coffee in the buffet was very good. Our cabin steward William was attentive and responsive to our needs and requests. The entertainment on board was fun and just right, including the enrichment series. Very informative about sea life and the bounty of Alaska. The shore excursions were perfect, we enjoyed each activity in each Port. The Alaska Rainforest and Raptor Center where we saw Sitka the Bald Eagle was just amazing. Whale Watching and Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau was simply breathtaking and we got to see many whales, including Orca’s up close. The Skagway White Pass Railroad was absolutely beautiful. Victoria is a beautiful City and we enjoyed our chocolate experience at Roger’s Chocolates. The weather the first week of September was beautiful, with the only exception being the fog that caused us to not be able to sail into the Tracy Arm Fjord, Service onboard the Star Princess was top notch with friendly and helpful staff. We would definitely love to do another Alaska Cruise and love Princess Cruises. Can’t wait for the next Princess Cruise adventure. I highly recommend this Star Princes Alaska Cruise. Read Less

Background We have cruised 15+ times on various lines and usually go for the itinerary. We’ve always wanted to do Norway and this cruise popped up on Vacations To Go and away we were. We did book it rather late, probably a couple months prior. We had gone on Celebrity once before so we knew we had a good cruise line with a great itinerary. Little did we know just how great both would be. Traveling to the Port We flew two days earlier from the States so we would arrive a day early to get a night’s rest before embarkation. We used Celebrity for booking the flights, primarily American Airlines since we collect their miles, but the major flight over, from Philadelphia to Heathrow, was British Airways which was quite good. Upon our arrival at Heathrow, Passport Control was quite simple and we collected our luggage, albeit waiting a while for it, and met our driver just outside of baggage collection. We had arranged for a car from Smith’s for Airports and he was great. Hotel Since I’ve been collecting points at Best Western, we had decided to see if our points would pay off and booked the Best Western at Chillworth Manor. We thought that, in worst case, we’d have a bed and a shower and off we would go to embarkation. Were we pleasantly surprised! The hotel is, indeed, a former Manor. Not Downton Abbey, but quite nice and interesting. The grounds were lovely to walk about and we had a wonderful stay. The staff was excellent. We had dinner in the restaurant (highly recommend) and the breakfast, in the restaurant, was probably the best “free” breakfast we had ever had. Room was nice and comfy and we were very happy we selected the Manor. Embarkation We left the hotel via a hotel-arranged taxi at 10:00 AM and arrived less than thirty minutes later. We went through check-in quite quickly and easily and had a seat in the waiting lounge for no more than 5-6 minutes before our “number” was called to board. All-in-all, a great embarkation experience all around!! Stateroom Our stateroom was a balcony, 9109, quite far forward (about 5 rooms back from the front, but we found it to be great and quiet. There was a bit of a walk to the elevators, but that’s okay with us! Our cabin steward kept the room exceptionally neat and we had not a complaint. My wife has a CPAP machine and, having arranged it ahead of time, we had a gallon of distilled water and, much to our surprise, an extension cord awaiting us in the room. The room also had a water heater and we had tea out on our deck most days. As far as standard ship balcony rooms go, this was a good one. The Ship We had been on the Equinox and knew the general layout of the Silhouette. I have to admit that, when we found out after booking that she would be in drydock soon after our trip, I was a bit concerned that we were going on an “old” ship. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, many of us on board commented to each other that we didn’t really know why it was even being refurbished! It was a beautiful ship from stem to stern. Getting around the ship was easy. There were three decks of inside “evening” areas, including dining, shops, lounges, etc. Deck 5 had an outdoor walking area but did not entirely circumvent the ship, which is disappointing but appears to be the way with these ships nowadays. I long for the “Promenade deck” of old! The pool area got some use though this was a cooler itinerary. The indoor solarium pool was more the place to be if swimming is what you looked for. Given the itinerary, we didn’t even pack bathing suits! Dining We usually opt for freestyle dining as Norwegian calls it but, having booked so late, we were forced to have 6:00PM dining. It was okay but we would prefer not to eat that early again. Our wait staff was excellent and we had two other couples, one from the UK and one from Israel, at our table and we became fast friends. Food selection was very good as was the food itself. Specialty Dining We availed ourselves to one of the 3-night specialty packages and, though we probably wouldn’t do the package again, we were not disappointed with the experience. I think we’d stay in the MDR and just take one arbitrary night to do a specialty restaurant, if at all. Our first experience was the Lawn Club Grille, an “outside” venue – though it was fairly enclosed with the plastic walls. This is the place for steaks as they cook them right there on the grille and they were fantastic! Second experience was the Tuscan Grille. Here’s a tip – if you ever do the Norwegian Fjords itinerary, and you plan on eating here at all during the cruise, do so on the day you sail away from Flam. The restaurant is the aft-most one can be with large viewing windows and sailing away down the fjord is just magnificent. This is an Italian steakhouse and, once again, the food and staff were excellent. Our last experience, our last dinner on this cruise, was at Qsine. The “Les Petits Chefs’ experience is a once-in-a-lifetime thing that must be experienced. The table top animation is just tremendous, but that doesn’t take away from the great food and excellent service they provide. If you only do one specialty restaurant, make this one your choice. Activities There are activities every day and we admittedly did not participate much. The few we did – Question of the Day, Riddle of the Day, Movie/TV music themes – were fun and well-done and we probably did ourselves a disservice not participating more but there are only so many hours in a day. Suffice it to say that if Activities are your thing, there are plenty and seem to be well done. Entertainment We went to every one of the 7 theater shows and we were very impressed with all. The production team did three shows, all of them spectacular. The aerialists and acrobats were outstanding, as were the singers and dancers. One show was a local UK singer/pianist who did a very good job, especially on the piano. Another night was a comedian who was quite good and funny. The Flyboys were on board and they are a quartet of singers who transform “modern” songs into swing era style. The Overtures, the best 60’s band in the world according to Elton John, performed one night to rousing ovations and applause and did a quick set the last night in the Foyer area. The live music throughout the ship was top-notch. Two bands, once of which played a lot of 60s – 80s rock and roll, a solo guitarist/vocalist, a string duo (violin and cello) doing modern tunes with strings, were all great. We went to one of the “game shows”, Liars Club or some such thing, which was hilarious and I’m certain other shows were equally well done. On the final day, Captain George gave a talk about the ship and navigation and had a lengthy Q&A which was all very interesting. Ports The itinerary consisted of four fabulous ports. We used Celebrity for all tour excursions. We arrived in Bergen, Norway, at noon. Our tour was a little later and was simply a panorama tour of Bergen and the surrounding hills. Our guide was excellent and the tour was good. Also at Bergen is the ability to take a funicular up the hillside for views of the city. We did not do so but others on board did and report that it was great. Our second stop was at Alesund, Norway. Two things of note: If you go do Alesund and don’t do the Path of the Trolls tour, you have not been to Norway! And, though I know lots of cruise critics eschew ship tours, I heartily recommend you do the ship tour for this one or be prepared to fly yourself out to the next port. This is a LONG tour and is subject to so many possibilities of delays. Anyhow, the tour is excellent. You get to go well into the interior of Norway with its tremendous views. The third stop is the reason for taking a cruise to Norway, this cruise into and out of Flam. This town of only 400 is nestled at the end of an arm of Norway’s longest fjord. The cruise in and out is spectacular, with waterfalls almost within reach of the ship. We took the Flam railway up to the end, climbing up through the mountains with outstanding views of the Flam River valley and the various waterfalls. Flam is also a great town to walk about and get some souvenirs. The final stop was Stavanger which is a pretty good sized city at the southern end of Norway. From the ship, we took the cruise of the Lysefjord fjord. This was a great trip, despite the only real serious rain of the whole cruise. We had views of the great waterfalls and the famous Pulpit Rock. An interesting stop for waffles and coffee was also made and much appreciated. Disembarkation We elected to have our luggage taken off the ship and meeting it on shore, though a leisurely walk-off is also available. Getting off the ship was a breeze. We found our luggage quickly as that is well-organized. Customs was nothing since we had nothing to declare. We, again, had a ride organized with Smith’s for Airports and he collected us on time and had us to Heathrow with time to spare. Summary All in all, this was one of the best cruises we have ever taken. Admittedly, much of that credit goes to the itinerary, but the ship, staff, service, food and everything about the Silhouette was top-notch. Well done, Celebrity! Read Less

I chose this ship because our friends had planned this trip and the convenience of the port. We had a wonderful time going to Bermuda. This was our first time on an Norwegian cruise line. The ship was very big with lots of activities to do. The captain was very careful to avoid the hurricane Dorian when we were going to Bermuda. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The food of course wasn’t the best but still tasted good. I would have to thank the guest manager for treating us very special. I would have to say we want to try the Norwegian Escape again. This was also our first time doing a meet and great and the slot pull which was lots of fun. The captain was also careful with the hurricane going back home. Although we had arrived late we came back to port safe and sound. Read Less

Royal Caribbean was AMAZING at communicating with us and letting us know the advantages of hanging in there with them and assured our safety so we decided to go ahead keep our reservation and take the cruise. This ship is the nicest ship we have ever had the pleasure of taking, We have taken many cruises on many different lines. We are now have Platinum Status on RC so we are trying to continue growing our reward level on this RCI ships and family. We absolutely LOVED every single part of this ship! The Rooms were the largest and spacious and beautiful. The ship is immaculate, the food was excellent, and the service was awesome! I cannot tell you how pleased I was with my experience! Royal Caribbean knocked it out of the park with this Ship and this Cruise. There really were so many differences to this cruise and this ship than so many others. It was just a way different class of ship than so many others! Read Less

Where do I begin? My wife and I just returned from a six night sailing on Adventure of the Seas. This was her 12th cruise and my 10th. We've sailed NCL, RCI, Carnival and Celebrity. Of all the ships we've been on, Adventure is my favorite without a doubt. We booked this trip when we were on Enchantment last September. I was excited about trying a Vision class ship because it has all the amenities of the Freedom class ships but is slightly smaller. Adventure, as far as I'm concerned, is nearly perfect. It's beautiful and in great condition inside and out. We stayed at the Newark airport Doubletree which was ideal. Uber to the port cost us a total of $16.00 and it simply could not have been easier. We walked out of the Uber, through the terminal and were on the ship within 10 minutes. I thought Port Canaveral was easy but Bayonne is even more so. I figured out a few cruises ago that wearing swim trunks onto the ship means I can jump on the slides and the Flow Rider while everyone else is in the Windjammer. I got to spend nearly an hour by myself flow riding in the back of the ship before lunch! (I'm 50, BTW!) We had My Time Dining with a reservation each night at 5:15. Our MDR servers were Danny and Rudolfo - both terrific - and we enjoyed them more and more as the week went on. Food was very good. RCI's food isn't our favorite but it's very tasty and of course, I left more than full every night! Nicole at the check-in stand was delightful and started the dinner experience off on the right note every night. There was only one formal night on the cruise and although we brought clothes for it, we didn't feel like changing so we opted for dinner that night in the Windjammer. Speaking of the Windjammer, I have to say it was spacious and very well organized. I was a bit surprised that it closed relatively early each night but pizza and other tasty things were available 24/7 on the Promenade (another feature of the ship we loved). Overall, the Windjammer exceeded my expectations and the staff there was very accommodating. They have packed the space tight with tables and it was often crowded. Still, it was well organized. We happened to go upstairs one night only to stumble upon the chocolate fountain and dessert bar. They never advertised it but I guess we just got lucky. I probably consumed 5000 extra calories that night! I did use the fitness center each day and was pleased that it opened on time daily. Unlike other ships, it was never packed and the machines were in good condition. Our stateroom was 9307 and Kevin, our attendant, did an excellent job taking care of us. We seldom ran into him but he knew our names when we did. We have grown accustomed to interior cabins because the cost savings allow us to cruise more often. The room was cool and dark when we needed it to be. There isn't a lot of space but it had everything we needed. The bathroom was tiny but also provided us with everything we needed. Overall, we were very pleased with the room and our towel animals! Entertainment was very good. The singers were better than most and the variety of shows was strong. There were two comedians on the ship - one early and one late in the cruise. We attended the family friendly shows but not the adult versions because for us, that gets old quickly. The one show I did not care for was Impact. They are three dancers/singers who do a high energy show. The audience seemed to love them but that kind of entertainment just isn't my thing. The Adventure of the Seas band was excellent. Our ports of call were St. John, Bar Harbor and Halifax. In St. John we did the pink hop on hop off bus which was great. It was just enough and the drivers/narrators were excellent. Honestly, we weren't taken with the city but the cooler temperatures and length of our 90 minute tour were ideal. Bar Harbor is fantastic - but crowded. It was the only one of the three ports where we were with another ship - the Queen Mary 2. It made for a lot of people in a small space. We took an Olley's Trolley tour to the top of Mount Cadillac and the views were spectacular. The driver/narrator was excellent there as well. Some people raved about the tender boats and others complained because they were too big and it took a long time to board. For us, it wasn't an issue. I don't really mind tendering. It's an adventure in itself. We did schedule a RCI excursion to Peggy's Cove in Halifax. It was a 3.5 hour tour - most of which was spent on the bus. Our tour guide was excellent but with only 55 minutes to spend exploring Peggy's Cove (charming but a place I don't need to visit again) it was a long morning. The weather was nearly perfect with 65 degree temps throughout the entire voyage. The two things that surprised me about Adventure were no outdoor seating in the Windjammer and a greater degree of smoking on the pool deck in addition to the casino. However, overall, Adventure, with it's interior and exterior beauty, spectacular venues and outstanding staff made for one of our best cruises yet. Unlike many other ships on which we've sailed, the CD, Drew, was low key and excellent. So often CD's tend to be spotlight hungry and over the top. Drew was neither. Disembarkation was easier than embarkation! We prefer self assist and left our stateroom (sadly) at 7:16 a.m. We were off the ship in five minutes and at the Newark airport before 8:00 a.m.! Honestly, the ease and simplicity of the on and off process at Bayonne makes me want to find other sailings from the port. And it didn't hurt that we sailed passed the Statue of Liberty and under the Verrazzano bridge! All in all, I highly recommend Adventure of the Seas. I would sail her again tomorrow and will most certainly look for other cruises on Vision class ships. Read Less

We had an amazing vacation. Meet some very neat people. Looking forward to keeping in touch with them. The ship was clean and beautiful. Food in the Horizon Court was always really good. The best meal we had was at Curtis Stone Share! Go there and eat, you will not be disappointed. The Casino was fun we won some and lost some but overall it was fun. The artwork was pretty, not my style but nice to look at. We got the coffee card, but could have done without it. The coffee in the Horizon was just as good and free :). Soft serve ice cream was perfect, my hubby's favorite. :) We had great weather, only rained in Juneau. We did a little shopping in Juneau. We did the train ride in Skagway, that was beautiful. I would go again! Glacier Bay was beautiful, so peaceful and relaxing, we did see a portion of the glacier break but did not get pictures. The Lumber Jack Show in Ketchikan was really cute and fun, great for the family! We did the Pedi-Cab ride in Victoria, BC, I recommend seeing the city this way. The stop in Victoria is short and Pedi-Cab makes it to where you see the whole city in 2 1/2 hours. So you still have time to shop if you want. Overall the best vacation we have taken in years. We are looking forward to our next cruise, I really want to got to New England & Canada cruise. Read Less

My travel agent booked this cruise for myself and my husband. I did not read any reviews on about this cruise or ship until after we had already booked the tour. As we trust our agent very much. However, after reading the reviews, I was quite upset and almost ready to cancel the getaway all together. I am very happy that we didn't cancel and went on this cruise. Although we read in many reviews that the food was mundane or just ok, we felt that it was great. We saw many people state how the ship was old, musty and rusted; however we did not see this. As to us it was very beautiful. We stayed in the Horizon Suites and couldn't have been more comfortable. The service on the ship was complete accommodating, organized and did everything they could for us to make sure we were happy. We were able to book all the excursions that we wanted with no issues, while some we were put on a waiting list, they still made sure we somehow were able to join the rest of the passengers in these adventures. Getting on the boat was a breeze! I am blown away by the service that we received while on board. Our servers in the restaurant were absolutely amazing. They called us by name every time they addressed us; they pulled out my chair for me; and I loved the dancing. Putu Agus was our lead server. He was awesome! So friendly and funny! There was plenty to do each day, and the drink package was well worth it. The drinks were delicious, and the bartenders were quick and always smiling. In fact, I never saw a single team member who was not smiling. Fellipe, the cruise director, was also wonderful. He was so full of “energy”, as he would say. I was always glad to see him hop on stage at the different events. Our room was a lot bigger than I expected. Wir did an excellent job at keeping our room tidy and checking in on us. There was also a ton of room for storage. He also did a great job with the towel animals! I loved seeing those each day! Getting on and off the boat was easy, yet still secure. The shops were nice, the casino had plenty of room, and the boat never felt crowded. I love that they had adult-only areas. It was a nice spot for people without kids. Overall, I would absolutely recommend this ship. It was lively, entertaining, spacious, and the service still blows my mind. Read Less

BBQ on deck, personal service, incredible food and beverages, informative and small-town tours... we will be back many time! The ship is amazing, clean and well laid-out. Amazing and varied gourmet meals, well organized tours to very special destinations. The staff attentiveness is second to none. I researched over 25 river cruise lines for the best... this was it. Cabin, although expensive, was spacious and provided an un-encumbered view of all sides of the ship...truly and amazing experience. Special surprises such as an on-board BBQ, nightly entertainment from local sources, private concerts in Palais Lichtenstein, concert pianists, world-class violinists, dancers, and musicians. The cruise director Yvonne is a treasure and the captain and his crew approachable, thoughtful and willing to go the extra mile to ensure a wonderful and life changing experience. We will be back! The first part of the critique here is about the Celebrity experience… This was our first time sailing with Celebrity. Overall it was excellent across the board, with a couple of notable exceptions. We were traveling with another couple who have previously sailed several times on Celebrity and persuaded us to join them on this trip. POSITIVES: BY FAR, the biggest Celebrity Eclipse stand out experience for us, was the restaurant LUMINAE which is exclusive to suite guests. It is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The staff, service, and cuisine were virtually flawless the entire week. Meal after meal exceeded some of the more exceptional restaurant experiences we’ve had anywhere in the world. Personally, (and if you possibly can swing it and/or are considering a suite), LUMINAE alone would be worth the upgrade. Some of the other suite perks are worthwhile as well, the suite package included their “1-2-3” with fast unlimited internet, package, premium beverage package and the varying credits aboard”. The rest of the suite “perks” are more limited (at least at the Sky level and this class of ship). Although the butlers do a very good job, I believe they have too many guests to attend to at times, which is not their fault. The housekeeping staff were just great as well. Zero complaints. The ships interior (and this is pre-remodel coming in 2020/2021) are very very nice. The open atrium effect , the “Solarium” indoor adult pool area, spa, restaurants, etc etc. were all just fantastic. ______________ Daisy our butler was first rate all the way. Even when a couple of minor issues occurred she was able to more than compensate and/or resolve. We loved her and her smiling face every day. She's a very hard worker with great attention to detail and your customers' satisfaction. We were very very happy with her. Juan Pablo and Jose our servers every day at Luminae did a non-stop outstanding job. Quickly learned our likes, dislikes and accommodated us at every single opportunity. Smiles and friendliness as well as great attention to detail and professionalism were ever present. On one occasion that my husband left dinner to return to the suite not feeling well, Hugo quickly asked me how he could assist. He sent ginger ale, a bread basket and chicken soup to the room within minutes. Another outstanding interaction. Absolutely loved getting to chat with Bianca at Luminae. She is just awesome!!! _______________ The "suite" experience really made the trip for us. The benefits were well worth it to us. I've already recommended two friends to the Celebrity line and that they at least get a Sky Suite to enjoy the perks. On the negative side, I wanted to make a point of relaying that almost every interaction we had with staff members at Cafe al Bacio was bad! Between us and the other couple we were traveling with (also in a Sky Suite) we stopped by Cafe al Bacio every day. It wasn't just one or two people. It was daily, and not limited to anyone person, different people. I couldn't give you one good recommendation or come up with a name of one person there that even smiled or who wasn't looking and acting like they couldn't give a damn. Sometimes we were kept waiting while two or three were congregated chatting with one customer or each other. Attitude. Attitude. Attitude. And weren't going for complicated coffee drinks. It was for a couple of sweets, some tea, a coffee to go, etc. It was very unfortunate. Not even the Suite room card changed there attitude. I'm only speaking for the four of us in our traveling group. We talked about it daily, and tried each time we went back to smile ourselves and temper our requests. The Sunset Bar bartenders were also all and always unfriendly. No interaction or personality or smiles. In contrast all of the bartenders at Ocean, Mast and the other bars were great. The only other comment (negative) is about the room service. Which, food wise, was very unfortunate. The so-called extended menu I assume for suite guests, as you know, is only a few extra items. The one night we stayed in the suite and ordered from that portion of the menu, we got a filet (passable) and a ribeye (AWFUL), crab cakes. Gross. I'm sure we were spoiled with the great food at Luminae, but ... My suggestion would be to have a REAL expanded menu for suite guests that was actually above par. I'm sure the intent is to get guests to the restaurants for the best experience, but occasionally dining is preferred, and it shouldn't be such a sad experience. Read Less

Disembarking the ship for excursions was a little hectic with everyone trying to get off the ship, but the help did all they could to ensure it went as quickly as possible. The ship was beautiful, the food was phenomenal, we just loved everything about it. Our favorite lounge was the Observation deck where you could see all angles of the beauty around you, very comfortable and relaxing, had even fallen asleep in there. Loved the bartenders in there as well they were on top of serving everyone at the bar in a timely manner. We would love to do this trip again, and if we choose to it will be with the Norwegian cruise line. Read Less

My wife and I try to take a cruise each year to celebrate our Anniversary, August 25th. I try to make it a special cruise vacation for both of us so this year I chose Norwegian Breakaway as the ship and upgraded to the Haven. It was the best decision I have made in years but there is a good chance that one day I might regret that decision. You see, what I found is that once you book a Haven Suite you can never go back to anything less. Therefore, the day may come when I may not be able to justify the additional outlay of funds for the Haven, naw, I'm not going back!!! From the time you arrive at the ship you are greeted by a knowledgable crew member and accompanied to the Haven to be shown around all the Haven has to offer. You think, what no line, no hour plus boarding time? We just got aboard a few minutes ago and already we are seated in the Haven dining room having our 1st adult beverage of the day. In our opinion, the Haven dining room exceeds any of the dining venues aboard, even the specialty restaurants. Talk about being made to feel special or as my wife relates, pampered, you owe it to yourself and your spouse to book one Haven cruise to see for yourselves. Your Haven suite is nothing short of 1st Class and that is how you are treated by every crewmember no matter their rank or position. I will stop now or this will grow to a short story. We did have one problem on this cruise. His name was "Dorian". He caused the Port of Miami to close and we were redirected to New Orleans. Ever heard of Burbon Street. Party On! Read Less

The ultimate ship tour and the chefs table where great add ons to the trip to alaska. The staff in share, crown grill, and the salty dog gastro pub. Made for so wonderful nights. Alaska took our breathe away from the morning we approached juneau till we departed ketchikan. The shore excursions we took where great. We will be returning. Ruby princess was a great ship for being at full capacity it did not feel crowded. We where on deck 15 forward. The cabin was nice and quite during the night and mornings. The view from the other decks made evening walks a joy. The dining anytime option made for fun and interesting dining groups. The photo package we purchased worked out very well for us. This was a cruise we will smile about when we remember this lovely trip. Read Less

This is an ideal cruise for anyone who has not been to Hawaii or for anyone that has been to Hawaii but hasn't been to each island. Don't worry too much about your room or location - save your $ and spend it wisely exploring all that each Hawaii Island has to offer. We rented a car in Maui, Hilo and Kauai and thoroughly enjoyed the overnight stays in Maui and Kauai. CABIN - Mid Ship Ocean View - Room 4582 Although we had initially booked and inside stateroom on the 4th deck, we were successful in our upgrade bid to a mid-ship ocean view cabin. This was also on the 4th deck. Our prior cruise rooms have always been in a balcony. We really liked our room location as it was 1 deck up from where you left/or got on the ship each morning. It was also only a few rooms from the stairs and elevators. However, the bathroom in the mid-ship ocean view room we had was way too small. My wife and I are not overweight, but felt very claustrophobic in the shower and tiny sink/toilet area. There is plenty of closet space and 4 drawers and assorted shelf area where you will have more than enough room. This would be a 5 star room if the bathroom were a bit bigger. DINING - MDR and 2 Specialty We ate dinner in the MDR Liberty (2 nights) and Skyline (2 nights) and 1 night each at Cagney's & Moderno, with dinner out 1 night while in Kauai (The Beach House). We had breakfast at the buffet a few mornings, as well as, breakfast at Skyline a few times and Cadillac Diner once. Lunch was at the buffet or the Key West Bar/Grill. Overall - we were pleased with the food, but have had better on other NCL ships. I liked the layout of the buffet and the amount of space available to get a table. SERVICE - Room and ship staff Our room steward was very nice, but failed on a few occasions to give us the extra bath towel we requested for each day. This wasn't too big of a deal as we ended up using the pool/beach towels that were more than plentiful each day. We had fairly good service in the dining rooms, with exceptional service from the wait staff in Cagney's and Moderno. I did have an issue with many of the bars as they seemed understaffed and were unable to handle the volume of people. However, they were respectful and understanding to each patron. This was our first cruise as "Platinum" and were rewarded with 2 free specialty dining meals (Moderno & Cagney's) but were never provided with our coupons to use, thus having to inquire at Guest Services when the high $ showed on our bill at the end of the cruise. Unfortunately, I had to wait in GS for almost 30-minutes, only to be told to go to the restaurant reservation staff, which was not able to help me, and then told to go to the Cruise Next member, Lauren, who had double duty as the Latitudes contact also. Lauren was able to rectify the issue and get the charges off of our bill. I would think that in this day of technology, that NCL would have a better grasp of being able to add certain Latitude perks to a person's ship card. PORTS OAHU (Honolulu & Waikiki) Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head, Waikiki Beaches and plenty of great restaurants, shops and bars. The beaches are spectacular and we enjoyed our day prior to the cruise and the day after the cruise as well. MAUI My wife and I spent our honeymoon on Maul back in 1985. We enjoyed our first day and did the Road to Hana excursion via Valley Isle Excursions (booked directly) that offered a scenic, twist and turn roads, great BBQ lunch and a memorable, yet teeth chattering experience as our tour went all the way around Hana to areas where good roads are hard to find. Our tour guide/driver, Dennis, was wonderful. We rented a car the 2nd day and went back to the hotel where we had our honeymoon. Walked around, went to a few beaches and then drove up to Kapalua Resort for a beach visit then down to Lahaina for some shopping. HILO We rented a car from the local airport and drove to Volcanoes National Park ($25 per car admission fee) and toured the areas that were open. We did a bit of hiking as well from the visitor center to the steam vents and crater views. We also drove to the lower level of the volcano and various vantage points. The drive offers some amazing views of solid lava rock that is vast across various areas of the park. The drive down to the Sea Arch area is well worth it as the rock formation is spectacular, as well as, the views looking up at the lava flow. If you decide to stop at the petroglyph area to hike, beware that it says .7 miles each way, but it does require some effort and don't forget your water. KAILUA-KONA We opted for the NCL excursion for snorkeling on the Body Glove. With our latitudes status, the price was about the same as booking direct. This tour company is first class. It is within walking distance of the pier. They had an elaborate breakfast spread of assorted fruit, pastries, bagels and yogurt, along with water and coffee. We ended up going to a different location than Red Hill, so not sure what happened with this stop. Anyway, the water was ultra clear and offered plenty of colorful fish. We also some dolphins from the ship. This tour also offered a great spread of burgers, cheeseburgers and vegan burgers, with purple potato chips. We did the early morning tour and had some free time so we decided to do the Atlantis Submarine tour directly as it was right at the pier. I would highly recommend this as well, but it is a bit steep in price ($122 pp). KAUAI We rented a car for the day and a half we were in Kauai. Our first day, we drove up to Waimea Canyon while stopping at the various locations in the park. There is a $5 parking fee that will cover you at each of the parks assorted lots. We were lucky as we got there pretty early (around 10:00) and beat the big tour buses and crowds. Make sure you drive to Kalalau Lookout for one of the most spectacular views you will ever see. It is only about 20-minutes from the main parking lot area via car. Since we had plenty of time on our 1st day, we googled beaches on Kauai and chose to drive up to Polihale State Park. Just FYI - I suggest only going here if you have a jeep or some other type of larger vehicle. We, however, had a Hyundai Elantra, and had no idea what was in store for the teeth-chattering drive (about 20-minutes) over a rutted, pot-holed gravel road, that brought us to one of the most beautiful and secluded beaches you will ever see. Once you arrive, the sand to get to the beach is "VERY HOT" so make sure you have proper footwear. Our 2nd day, we drove up the north shore area to Princeville and viewed the sites and did some shopping. Read Less

This was our first cruise and we decided on the Cosmopolitan Classics cruise around the Med. Flight and transition from airport to ship was very smooth and embarkation was fast for 12 noon time of day. Our cabin was also ready when we went to put our hand luggage in it. Ship: Very clean, tidy, easy to navigate around and always seemed like there wasn't a lot of people on ship despite it being full. Staff: There was a really happy vibe on the ship and this was due to the happy and friendly staff. They simply couldn't do enough for you. Captain Chris was down to earth and gave interesting ship announcements and information. The entertainments director, Johnny, was very funny and also very informative on daily activities on his TV broadcast each day. He seemed to appear everywhere and set the fun vibe for the cruise. I can't fault all the hardworking bar staff and our cabin steward, Malvin, who's service was excellent. Entertainment: There was always something to do on the ship in the day or night from poolside, talks, dance classes, trivia and Broadway Shows. The entertainment team were top notch and the shows were amazing. The young actors/dancers/singers were all professional and amazing to watch. We went to 5 shows in 7 nights and they all worked really hard as they also work in the day and around the rest of the ship. There are also some very good musicians on the ship playing in the atrium and the live lounge. We did visit the casino some nights and had few goes on the roulette table. Food: we usually ate in the buffet as we found the quality and variety of the food to be exceptional and it suited us for time to allow us to do other things. I always find it difficult to find good vegetarian options in restaurants, but found the buffet offered so much choice for me. We didn't try the paying restaurants as we were so happy with the food in the buffet. Excursions: we booked 3 excursions for the week with Tui. Naples: the port was beautiful and very picturesque. We went to Pompeii and Vesuvius and really enjoyed this trip. Tip_ climbing the rest of the way up the volcano after the coach drops you off at 1000m was hard work, but worth it! Tui books local guides from the area who are very knowledgeable and this really makes the excursion interesting. We also went to Pisa and Wine Tasting and loved this cultural trip and even bought some wine from the vineyard. We went to Monaco and Monte Carlo as we are F1 fans and the lovely French guide gave us time on our own during the trip so we went to the 'Cafe de Paris' and had an expensive coffee and did some people watching. Some people say to not book excursions and do your own thing, but I like the ease of transport and the local guides make the trip more exciting and informative. I think the Tui excursions were value for money. I'm glad we didn't book more than 3, though as you do need time to relax. It was so exciting to find ourselves at a different port each morning and that has given us the cruise bug from now on. We also went on a 'Behind the scenes Ship tour' for £39 each. We met Captain Chris and had a 15 minute question and answer session on the bridge. We were offered tea and shown around the bridge by the third officer. We also visited the engineering room, the M1 under ship corridor, the kitchen and staff and had a glass of fizz with the Hotel manager. We also had a free photo with the Head chef and his hard working kitchen staff. This tour was great and we would highly recommend it. Overall, we had a great first cruise on a friendly and relaxed ship. All the guests were relaxed and happy due to being looked after by the staff and the happy vibe of this ship. The hardworking staff made the voyage memorable and Tui should be congratulated on all the travel organisation and ease of travel. We came home and booked our next Tui cruise for next year. Read Less

Having been in the travel business for over 49 years, I wanted to try this cruise line and also take a river cruise, which we had never done. We paid full fare. With some small exceptions, it was a perfect vacation. They provided fabulous backpacks and ticket wallet pre-cruise. They met our plane, and transferred us to the hotel, even though we arrived two days early to get acclimated to the new time zone. Ship was beautiful, spotless, and cabin space very well planned, with plenty of storage space for our two huge bags of luggage, as we traveled pre and post cruise. We would have liked more hooks. They provided bathrobes and velour slippers, Each room had a flat screen TV with huge number of channels, with movies, TV series, travel videos. Umbrellas, walking canes, earplugs, Moulton Brown toiletries, and WASHCLOTHS---a rarity in France. Shower space was fabulous compared to our last cruise on a regular cruise ship in March. Just wonderful. The only negative was the chairs in our in-room balcony were too big for the space and really, really uncomfortable. Included tours were excellent, the guides on almost every tour were delightful, charming, humorous, knowledgeable and spoke perfect English, which we followed on our Emerald padded headsets, which you re-charge every day. We booked 3 extra tours for the afternoons, and they were worth every penny, as these were spectacular points of interest visually, and you also got to see the countryside on the way to the destination. I don't think you could take a bad picture at any of the places we visited---we took over 75--- and every single one could be a postcard. Tournon was our least favorite stop, as there is not a tremendous amount there---maybe a cooking class could have been offered? Evening entertainment for us was mostly movies in the room, but we did go to the movie trivia night--where I won the bottle of wine! It was lots of fun, though we wished the evening events started just a bit earlier, as 9:15PM was late when you had to get up early in the morning for the tours. We are not morning people, but we adjusted. Our cruise director Darren, and the activities director Didi (I'm sorry if I have misspelled their names) were very entertaining, helpful, and efficient. Loved these guys! My husband took one of the bike tours, and enjoyed it immensely. Never used the pool, gym, hairdresser, masseuse, or did yoga, so can't comment on those activities. Breakfast had 3 times; early, regular, and quick bite so you could make the tours. Buffet of selections for every taste, but darned near impossible to get a cup of coffee right when you sat down. Don't know why they don't have coffee machines in the dining room, as I ended up getting mine at the machine in the bar and walking it downstairs---not good--- or safe. Lunch buffet was also very good, lots of selections, with choice of two kinds of ice creams with toppings, and sauces--- every day. Always a line for that. Again, getting a non-wine beverage here was also a problem, and I ended up bringing my iced tea down from the bar. However, if you are a wine drinker, you're in great shape on this cruise, as they never stop pouring...….ever. Dinner was our least favorite meal. We advised in advance that we don't eat pork products, veal, and I'm allergic to shellfish. The first night there was nothing on the menu I could eat, so I spoke to the maître d. She advised there was always a choice of a steak, salmon fillet, or chicken breast and Caesar salad. So, we ordered the steak the first night. The Caesar salad came with BACON sprinkled on it (!!!) and the steak was very tough, so we stuck with salmon most nights--though I don't love it, it was tastier than a plain chicken breast. The celebrity chef night was absolutely the best meal of the cruise, and we could have had his menu and bread every night and would have been very, very happy. The dining staff needed more training, as they could not accommodate any special requests, i.e. dressing on the side for the Caesar salad. In fact one night I was told that the Caesar was an entrée! They cannot deviate, and don't understand what you are trying to say. Also, they forgot two special meals at two other tables around us, and one passenger was furious. Dinner is one sitting at 7PM, so I understand the difficulty of serving over 130 people all at once. Maybe a smaller buffet in the bar area would help--- like they do for breakfast. I actually prefer buffets, as I can choose what and how much I eat. Dining portions were very small, but OK for us. Miguel the dining manager was very charming, always cheerful---but he has his hands full training this dining staff. Also, they need to try to smile more, as they always seemed stressed---which they were, I'm sure. If you have never taken a river cruise before, please be aware there is lots and lots of walking, sometimes you have to climb up and down stairs as you cross over other boats you are tied up to. Because you are tied up to them on some days, you cannot raise the shades in your cabin---so the "balcony" becomes unusable. But you are off early and don't spend much time in the cabin on most days. Also, this cruise is not suitable for children, as there are no activities for them. Most of the cruisers, I would guess, were over 60. All in all, an almost perfect vacation. Wish they did a Normandy River Cruise! Read Less

OMG i haven’t laugh so much in a long time. Food was great at all the different locations, but the Churrasqueria was even better. I didn’t do excursions with NCL, as their prices were a bit more from what you could get just by disembarking, so the i never used the credit the cruise gave us. hi we chose this cruise due to sail date and suite cabin option which included drink and tips. We have normally sailed with RCL so was good to hear membership was transferrable. We had a lovely spacious suite at back of boat very large balcony, bathroom good size also, not sure if room had been upgraded but all was good. Suite pool deck was fab very clean, quiet and comfy although service could be improved, appeared to be more their junior staff here. We did not utilise retreat lounge bar really last day as had drink package etc but again was lovely , nice bar free drinks, snacks etc again very quiet. A lot of areas had been refurbished so were very nice and stylish, loads of nice bars, live music, shows very good especially comedians, night life lot quieter than on RCL but enough for us. We went to murano which was very good staff excellent, as our anniversary we were given lovely cards, champagne and cake , butler i think organized.we also ate in blu more that our lumiere restaurant due to choice and atmosphere, although suite class restaurant food was excellent again just a little quiet at times, we also ate one night in main restaurant but preferred others but again no real issues. Food excellent, drinks eckennet, buffer even ok although a lot busier. Port stops good bar costa maya which was really just a nice walk around port with shops and bars, but enjoyed getting off ship and having a walk about. We didn't use gym or spa but did visit and looked good spec, pool area always busy but we didn't use this area, sun set bar at back of ship one of our favourites and world class bar, all staff very pleasant and quality very good would sail again on this ship and with celebrity. We chose this cruise for the ports that it was stopping at. We also liked the amenities and class of the cruise. We enjoyed the club class dining. Our servers Jelana, Ryan, Iris and Bazvan were the BEST! We always asked to sit at their station and enjoyed their company immensely. The saw to our every gastro need and gave excellent tips on what to order. They really added to our vacation enjoyment! We took 2 of the cruise excursions which were both extremely well run. The guides were very knowledgable. We tried to sign up for some tours in Marseille but they were canceled. I liked Paulos who gave tips on the ports during the sea days. We loved the Sanctuary. It was a quiet and relaxing way to spend the afternoon. The servers were all very friendly and accommodating, waiting on for every need. We really liked the evening shows in the Princess theater, especially the dance themes like the 70's disco. The activities during the day seemed geared more for older people. Too much pushing of the anti-wrinkle, burn fat seminars at the spa. Also we would have liked more lounge chairs available in the shade around the pool. We liked that there was not too much loud music around the pool. Liked the band that played periodically at the pool in the evening. The shuttles to town should not have a cost attached. When you pay $8000 for a cruise, you expect that it will bring you to the actual place that is listed on the itinerary, not have to pay $15 pounds to get you there. My neighbor was so excited to see our pictures, she wants to go on the same cruise next spring. She indecisive on this or a Italy bus tour. Are there any incentives you can give to help her decide? We chose this cruise to celebrate our 10th anniversary and as a way to see a large part of remote Norway in a somewhat short amount of time wherein both my husband and I could sit back, relax, do what we wished to each day and not have to worry about the planning, logistics or stress of getting from place to place, figuring out meals or finding places to stay along the way. We chose Hurtigruten because neither of us are a fan of very "touristy" types of planned activities and destinations (including all-inclusive vacations and huge cruise ships), and with the smaller boats and the fact that they go to many of the smaller ports and towns that one would never see on their own without a boat and lots of time, and the whole operation seems to have a lighter touch on the communities they visit versus the huge negative impact that larger cruise ships seem to have on cities and cultural sites. Despite the cost, we were honestly not expecting much since we had read that Hurtigruten also serves as a commercial transport ship, car transport and ferry in addition to the destination touring function they provide. And they do provide these services, but they are integrated so nicely into the seamless operation of the voyage that they only added to the experience for us, rather than detracting in any way. But from the moment we stepped on board, to the time we departed, we were absolutely delighted with the whole experience. The whole ship was immaculate! Our room was larger and more comfortable and nicer than we thought from the photos we saw on Hurtigruten's website. We were also conveniently located to the two very nice and clean and cozy outdoor hot tubs and the 7th floor deck, sun porch, cafe and bar. The staff were kind, helpful and informative; the excursions were well-planned and every one that we participated in went smoothly and without a single hiccup. The guides on both the excursions and the boat were knowledgeable about many things and made each evening fun with planned lectures and activities for all the guests. And the food! It was all spectacular! Everything was fresh, deliciously prepared, plentiful, thoughtful, relevant to the regions and their food heritage, and beautifully spread. Of our nearly 3-weeks in the country, we only had a couple of other meals that topped the food we ate while on-board the ship, and this is saying a lot as we orient every vacation we take around trying to find the best cuisine that any place we visit has to offer. Other than the cost of some of the excursions (they were all so expensive we were not able to participate in as many as we would have liked), and many of the other guests that were extremely pushy and rude - especially during mealtimes and queuing up to leave the boat whenever we docked - there really are no bad things to say about the voyage, the staff, the length of the trip (we wished we could have stayed longer), the route, or anything else and hope to be able to return again someday with others from our family to take part in a longer voyage or wintertime voyage when the country has other experiences to offer! We have never been to Europe and my husband and I have been saving for a while to take a nice trip to celebrate our 10th anniversary. So we decided to do a 10 days Mediterranean cruise. Santorini was a must and we were looking for cruise lines that had this destination in their itinerary. In our budget, I was able to find 2 cruise lines, NCL and Royal Caribbean. We went with NCL because the ship was refurbished recently and the promotions included the drink and specialty restaurant package also excursion credits and the internet package. Nice deal if you book a suite (that came with a concierge and butler services). So our itinerary included the Greek Islands, Malta and a few cities in Italy. We travelled with our 2 kids and we were treated like royalty form the moment of arrival to disembarkation. We arrived to the port at 10:30 am. Our concierge Bruno came and accompanied us to the ship. By 11:30 am we were on the boat sipping a glass of champagne and having lunch in one of the specialty restaurants. The ship was beautiful and our room was ready by 1:00 pm and what a room! We had a forward penthouse suite with large balcony (cabin 10000). A very large room that was perfect for us and our Kids (6 and 7 years old) in its category cabin 10000 and cabin 10500 were the largest. 2 cold bottles of champagne were waiting for us as well as chocolate treats… felt like royalty! Every morning with our coffee (from the Nespresso machine in our cabin) we saw the ship arrive at different ports. We had the best view on the ship and every evening with a glass of white wine, we said goodbye from our balcony to every city we visited. After reading some comments about not being able to use the balconies in the front of the ship due to strong winds, I was a little worried but their was no issue at all. We used our balcony every day (sea days and port days)... I guess we were lucky! We saw two amazing shows and enjoyed the entertainment in different bars on the ship. The ship is tailored more for adults than kids but still our kids enjoyed their time at the pool, basketball court and a few hours in the splash academy. Food was good. We ate at the main dinning restaurant The Grand Pacific and the buffet few times. We were mostly impressed by the Japanese restaurant, The Bistro and the Italian restaurant. One area that NCL can improve on is the Kids menu. 10 days of eating the same things (hot dogs, pizza, mac and cheese and chicken nuggets) becomes a little repetitive. They can add healthier choices. In the Grand Pacific, we ended up ordering for the kids from the regular menu. We booked all our excursions with NCL. Bruno our concierge made it so easy for us to disembark and accompanied us to our tour guide and bus. With 2 kids, we appreciated not waiting the long lines to disembark and we learned a lot about each port. We did not use our butler’s services but appreciated the snacks, the sweets and the fruit baskets that were delivered to our cabin every afternoon. Our steward did an amazing job keeping our room nice and clean no matter when we got back to it. Disembarkation was a smooth ride as well. Our concierge again accompanied us to our driver to go back to the airport. We loved the VIP treatment and the pampering. It will be difficult to go back to a regular balcony cabin (cannot afford suites every time! Lol) Read Less
