The tour started at an outer area near a parking area when leaving the cruise port and shopping spots. After getting on the bus in a mere 5 minutes, the tour head out to Maho Beach, Marigot, and a lot of extra stops for pictures and shopping. We had an ultimate fun adventure but were amazed by how long the tour took! By the time we got back to the cruise port, we only had about an hour and a half to look around the shops and get back on board. Overall, it was a very exciting adventure and it was good to see both french and dutch culture all over both sides of the island. Read Less

This was by far the best island tour, and the best tour guide we had. They have stopped taking visitors to Orient Beach, and now go to a different beach. The beach was just beautiful, and was accessed through the Rainbow Restaurant. They rent chairs and umbrellas for 15.00 for 2 chairs and an umbrella. The beach was uncrowded, the water was beautiful - crystal clear. We stayed for about 90 minutes - which wasn't long enough - and then continued on the tour. We went to Maho Beach to watch the planes and had a 90 minutes stop there, allowing time to get lunch and watch the planes. The French Market stop was 30 minutes, which could have been a little longer. Overall, this was by far the best. Read Less

We booked the air conditioned Bus Island tour with lunch and beach break. This was a fascinating tour of both the Dutch side and the French side of St. Maarten. The island was literally leveled by hurricane Louis in the 1960's and again by Hurricane Irma in 2017. We're talking level five hurricane direct strike devastation with the French side on the Atlantic taking the most damage. The wealthy are able to rebuild and you can see construction projects going on in several resorts. The poor, not so much, and the remains of horrible destruction remain everywhere you look. It's very sad but people's homes and whole towns are recovering. As a Florida resident that had the eye of Irma pass directly over my house as a level three storm, I can testify that it takes time to heal from hurricanes. The driver was funny and drove us to the French side's lower quarter (Spanish town area) to an outdoor tourist market. We shopped for an hour or so then boarded the bus again for the more expensive areas. Eventually, we wound up near the beach at the end of the airport runway, turned down a side street and drove to a more private beach and restaurant. The beach here was beautiful, ice blue and full of sea grass groves. A previous night's storm had pushed sea grass up on the beach and the swim was a little grassy, but quite cooling and comfortable. We had a lunch of fresh caught red snapper and drank more free rum punch all day. Quite a nice excursion for all ages. Did I mention air conditioned bus? Read Less

St Martin is, for good or ill, a tourist destination. Good in some respects -- pretty much everyone speaks English, although I found it easier to converse in French with a couple folks on the French side, and if you want KFC or McDonalds, you can do that, but it means that the island has lost a bit of it's individuality. Maho Beach is small, crowded, and probably worth skipping. Orient Beach is beautiful, and on the "family friendly" part of the beach there was nothing much to worry about (one woman was sunbathing European, and there was a guy in a thong banana hammock, but that was it). We went with Bernard's Tour for an island tour. Bernard's Tour was hard to find once we landed in port. We followed signs for where the taxis were and asked other tour guides in order to find Bernard's Tour. Basically, they are located behind the taxi/other tour group pickups roundabout in a white tent. If you're unsure, ask the other tour groups. They can point you in the right direction. Our tour guide was David. He was friendly and very knowledgeable about his island, giving us some history about it and how its people are rebuilding after the hurricane hit. Before we started, David showed us a map of the island and explained where we were going and the stops we would make. This was very helpful in understanding what our tour would look like. Our first stop was at the side of a road where there were some iguanas. We had some time to take pictures and look at the iguanas. Then we went on to Marigot. David gave us about an hour to tour the city area and do some shopping. We had a baby with us so one hour wasn't nearly enough for us. I do wish we had more time at this stop. We only had time to look around at the flea market and get some pastries from the French bakery. There was a mall there too, but we didn't have time to go to it. The next big stop was Maho Beach. David gave us 45 minutes here, but most people on the tour only wanted to stay for about 20 minutes. I would say 20 minutes is enough time if you just want to take pictures of the planes coming in and experience them flying over your head. The beach was very crowded, but I was still able to get some pictures/videos. Along our drive, David would stop at the side of the road so we could take some pictures. Overall, this was a wonderful tour. I feel like we got to see a lot of St. Maarten in a short time. David was very flexible and didn't rush us at each stop. Also, in the van, he provided a water cooler with drinks for us (water, beer, coke, rum) so this was a very nice touch! I would recommend this tour! Read Less
