Stockholm Vasa Museum Excursion Reviews

Located on the island of Djurgarden, the museum displays the only intact 17th century ship in the world, the 69 meter (226 feet) long warship Vasa that sank in 1628 on her maiden voyage in Stockholm.
This was a land and sea tour and it was way more hands on with stops to see things.

This excursion is 3.5 hours (Costa reference 2501 and €70pp) but is rushed. We only had 40 minutes in the Vasa museum which is a joke. Ive been given more time in a souvenir shop. This is not enough for such a masterpiece as the Vsa Museum. This is rated as one of the Worlds top ten museums and to get 40 minutes is ridiculous. I would not recommend this your and suggest that you take other measures to visit this museum and take your time. I would recommend at least 1.5 hours. Read Less

We visited the Vasa Museum on our own, arriving shortly after it opened but in time to catch the first English tour of the day. By the time we left, it was extremely crowded with group tours, etc. This is a fascinating story from the building of the Vasa to its sinking to its resurrection and restoration. We spent 3 full days in Stockholm, if you can only do one thing in Stockholm, this would be it! Read Less

Stockholm is an archipeligo of 14 islands all conected via bridges and tunnels. We opted for the Vassa museum tour but did see some of the city transferring from the ship to museum. Vassa museum was superb and the Vassa ship is in remarkable condition for being on the sea floor in Stockhom harbour for hundreds of years. Well worth seeing but Stockholm needs days not a few hours to really see. Read Less

The Vasa Museum was wonderful our HAL tour guide was not so good. He was constantly walking off leaving large contingents of the group behind. This caused anxiety in the crowded Vasa Museum. The guide did have a microphone attached to his collar, so he could easily have said, "we are now going up to the next level," etc. Despite being asked to keep folks updated with his location he continued to walk at his own pace and disregard his group. It was a frustrating tour, because we were reliant on our guide to catch the right bus, (there were dozens), back to the ship. This tour could definitely been organised much better, including dropping folks off a other tourist points. Read Less

We visited the museum of the Swedish warship 'Vasa', once considered one of the world's largest and the pride of Sweden's mighty navy. The present museum is built around the 17th century warship which sank in Stockholm's inner harbor on her maiden voyage in 1628. Next we visited Stockholm's oldest and coziest quarter, the old town of Gamla Stan. We viewed the exterior of the Royal Palace and walked through the narrow, twisting alleys and cobblestone streets. No opportunity was provided to enter any of the buildings. Our tour guide was somewhat inflexible and allowed no one to divert from his schedule or direction. Several of the tour participants asked to use a restroom but he continued to talk about glacial retreat while we suffered. We finally bolted from the group and went around asking for directions to facilities. We regret having taken this tour under these circumstances. Otherwise – Stockholm is a very beautiful city with much to see. Read Less
