Best tour of the four ports for us. The guide was great. We had fun learning to make different kinds of salsa while drinking free Margaritas or beer or water. We also enjoyed the dancing part. All followed by several hours at a super beach! The best part -- you could leave whenever you wanted. They simply arranged a free taxi ride back to the cruise. We will do this tour again. Read Less

This ended up being a very small group. We got into taxis and were driven to Mahahual, a little town about 1 1/2 miles north of the port. Each table contained ingredients ready for making 2 kinds of salsa and guacamole. I don't know whether it was because we made them, the ingredients were fresh from Mexico or if the blue margaritas got to us but all 3 were delicious. We were given recipes so that we could make them at home. Throughout the whole "cooking lesson" blue frozen margaritas were flowing freely. After that, a salsa dancing lesson. We only did a couple basic steps but it was clear that most of us do not have what it takes! We gave it a good try and shared some laughs. We were given vouchers for return taxis but most of us agreed to meet back at a certain time to ride back together. We had time to walk along the broadwalk which was lined with little shops and more bars. Massages were available on the beach or you could just grab a chair and sit there. It was a very enjoyable excursion. The only reason I do not give it the full amount of stars is I thought the price was a little high ($79 pp) Read Less

The excursion was supposed to be a three part tour. First an hour of shopping, then a few hours on the beach, and then a tour through the jungle to see a mayan fishing village. The tour started off with us getting onto a bus and heading off to shop. The shopping was nice, but most of us went for the BEACH! So we all met back up at the bus to move on... but a bunch of taxis had parked around our bus, blocking us in. They refused to move for a little over an hour. We were all hot and angry and our tour guide tried to convince them to move, but nothing worked. The police finally showed up and talked to them for awhile. They eventually moved to let us out. We lost a lot of beach time but tried to push on. The police then pulled us over warning us that the taxis would probably block us in again at the beach and that they wouldn't be able to help us. The tour guide called the excursion off and we tried heading back to the ship. The taxis had blocked us from using the main roads to get back to the ship, so we had to take the skinny side roads to get back. When we got back we received compensation from Carnival for the excursion and our trouble, but we didn't get our beach :( Since we got back to the port a couple hours early, we had plenty of time to grab a drink and shop around and we had a great time. Most of the shop keepers were friendly and easy to barter with. I give the excursion a 1 and the port a 5, so to be fair it gets a 3. The excursion didn't go very well, but we'd love to come back here someday and give it another shot. Read Less
