Grand Cayman Dolphin Encounter Excursion Reviews

This is more than just a swim with the dolphins. Witness fun dolphin behaviors that you will never forget; from handshakes to jumps and kisses, there is no telling what the dolphins will do next!
Very nice excursion.
Sail Date: February 2019
Very nice excursion. Dock/pier side organization was very rocky. No Celebrity staff on hand and mixing with guests from Carnival created confusion. Vendor direction needs work.

$80 pp. Involved van ride for over 30 minutes to the site which had large concrete pools containing a number of dolphins, partly surrounded by sand. There were washrooms, change rooms and a shop. Groups were formed of about 12 people, and led to a pool with a dolphin by a photographer. Each person received a life jacket and descended into waste deep water to stand at the edge of the pool, while the trainer whistled for the dolphin. One at a time each person had 5 minutes with the dolphin and the trainer practising how to use a hand signal for the dolphin to one trick, and then most of the time was for the required photo op touching the dolphin. Our dolphin was Lucy, and a very smart lady! However, there was NO swimming with the dolphin. It was all just standing in the water waiting our turn. They then charged a ridiculous amount for the photo of you with the dolphin. Read Less

The Dolphin encounter was very good, but no personal cameras were allowed. The group of 8 each got to do 5 tricks with the dolphin individually, which was real cool including the dolphin kissing you. The staff photographed all the tricks with you. Afterwards, the pictures were $120 per couple; totally ridiculous. However, since personal cameras are not allowed it is a monopoly. Sad we got no photos to remember an otherwise very good cruise excursion. Read Less

Amvivo was the tour operator and the tour was book through Viator. Our ship docked late and Amvivo did not answer their phone when we tried to call. It took three attempts. 35 minutes after the excursion depart Amvivo answered and said the tour had left. When I asked for a refund because they had not answered, I was told 50%. When I threatened to leave negative reviews, like this one, they agreed to 100%. Read the other reviews for yourself though. You will see I am not the first person to state they do not answer their phone. Read Less

We ferried to shore and found a local connection to the Dolphin Cove and had an amazing time swimming with the dolphins. We got off the ferry and took a right turn to the port and found what we were looking for. Even the public bus system here is awesome. It's simple and and cheap and got us where we needed to go. Take a taxi to the site. You really could book this directly with the Dolphin place too. i recommend the 11:00 swim. You can go to the turtles either before or after and they take maybe an hour.

This was our second dolphin encounter. The unique activity of being pushed on a boogy-board by a dolphin was awesome. I would recommend this activity to anyone. For those complaining about the price of pictures, I can only say that ALL dolphin encounters charge you ~$200 for pictures. You can also buy individual photos if the package cost is too high. I am giving this 5 stars for the experience. The facility itself could use improvements. The lockers are literally falling apart. The floor around the lockers was slimy - a very odd and disgusting feeling. Take your flip flops, use them whenever possible. When you swim with the dolphins, there is an underwater METAL GRATE you must walk on. Its painful without shoes. There were areas where the grate rusted through, covered by a pad that can also hurt your feet. Read Less

Our family split into two groups and did Dolphin Swim as well as Encounter due to ages with Stingray after. Both had a great time. It was March and water in lagoon was chilly. Had a 4y.o. and adult. Mainly got to pet, interact with dolphin and watch it perform from dock. It was fun and they were very kind and spent a little extra time with our son- which was not needed but very kind! Photos were overpriced but good shots. We knew we couldn't take pics of our own experience and that prices would be crazy. As a family of 4 ended up being not much more to get a cd with all pics vs buying 2-3 singles. Read Less

The Dolphin Encounter was an awesome experience for my family. We went with my mom and dad and my aunt and uncle. We got to pet the dolphin (ours was named Joy) several times, "dance" with her, and give her a kiss. I felt that the trainers took good care of the dolphins. My only complaint about this excursion is the price of the photos. To save money, we purchased photos for 7 people instead of 3, and we were able to get more pictures for our money. Perhaps next time, we might do the Dolphin Swim for a few dollars more. Read Less
