The cruise was affordable for our party of ten especially we booked at the last minute. My party and I went on a 4 day cruise to Cozumel Mexico on the Carnival Valor; this is my third time cruising with Carnival cruise line and first time on the Valor. Other than the Cruise Director, Kevin, my family and I didn't have a good time and I didn't like the ship. The Valor seemed small, congested and cluttered and it could use some updates especially in the sports area, which was small and dated; also, they could use some new loungers because a lot were stained and need to be replaced. My party included kids, teens and young adults, and I found that there wasn't a lot of activities for the teens and kids. The pool area was crowded the majority of the time as well as the sports area, and the sports area closed at 5 pm everyday, "which didn't make much sense to me," so my kids really didn't do much. Some of the food was okay, especially the burgers from Guy's that was a hit for those that like burgers, but the other selection of food could have been better. The cabins were a decent size and considering that there was so many people on the ship the washrooms throughout the ship were kept clean so that was a positive. My only complaint with the cabin is one wasn't ready when we arrived. There were dirty linen left in the room and they didn't have the beds set up for the four individuals staying in the room. The bars stayed busy throughout the day, and a lot of time we had to wait a long time to be served. I wasn't crazy about the entertainment: the comedian we saw our first night there was not funny so we ended up leaving, I didn't enjoy the singers they didn't make it exciting and everything else just seemed boring. We planned for this trip for two months, but everyone was disappointment on the cruise and couldn't wait to go home. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it fit our schedule and the ports. I was hesitant because of the size of the ship and the amount of people on board. I was surprised because even with 4000 people, it really never felt crowded. The buffet in the morning was a little hectic but other than that everything ran smoothy. Embarkation and disembarkation was quick and smooth. Getting on and off the ship at ports was also efficient. Lines constantly moved. The cruise overall was nice but nothing gave me the ‘wow’ factor. Service, food, entertainment, activities, cabins, excursions, etc were all average. Our service at Cagneys was exceptional but our service at La Cucina was horrible. Our meal took 2 hours which was ridiculous. Buffet was good for breakfast and lunch. Food and service in Taste and Savor was average. One thing that our group had an issue with was the pool area. We had ‘kids’ ranging 12-21. The main pool is adult only and the kid pool is really kiddy (not really fun for kids over 10). So we were never able to all go in the pool together. I spent my time by the kid pool watching my son be splashed and ran into by small children acting crazy, while my brother and nieces were hanging out by the main pool where all the entertainment was. I understand the need for an adult pool but it should not be the main pool!! I have cruise 3 other cruise lines and have never encountered this problem. The adult pool was off in a secluded area where adults only were able to hang out. The main pool was for families. This was a big disappointment for our group of 8. Also, I noticed a sewer smell on the ship. It was not everywhere but I did smell it horrible in public restrooms and when our toilet seat in our cabin was up. Things were clean but did have a odd smell. Entertainment was disappointing. Burn The Floor was horrible. Boring and unentertaining. Rock of Ages was much better but was very long. Overall the cruise was nice but I would not cruise Norwegian again. I think you get a better experience for your money on other cruise lines. Read Less

I have been on over 35 cruises my second in two years on the Breakaway. FOOD The food was still good, however it really irks me that they have done away with Lobster night. Also seemed to be a lot more nickel and diming the customers. ROOM Our room steward was the worst I have ever experienced. After 2 straight mornings of him running the vacuum in the hall at 8 am, I asked him to why he was doing it so early and not waiting until more passengers were out of their rooms. He told me because it was dirty, I pointed out that it could wait. He also argued with me regarding that I ordered distilled water even after I showed him the email confirmation. I complained the phone did not work, he said he would take care of it. I checked later that day and it still did not work, so I asked him and he said he fixed it. I told him he did not and told him to follow me back to the room to show him it did not work. Friends of ours 2 rooms down, said he broke their son’s glasses that were laying on the bed. Yes they should not have been left on the bed, but he could at least own up to it. He forgot to leave them towels and when they called him, he said he was off duty, talk about terrible customer service! EXCURSION In Roatan, we did the ultimate resort for a day, what a nightmare. There was a strike and the road was blocked the driver turned around and almost got t-boned. He then took us on a one lane dirt road up a mountain, with cars and trucks coming the other way. All of us in the van asked him to take us back to the ship, which he refused. We got there after an hour and half, he told us he would pick us up an hour early. The service was terrible, we had to wait 45 minutes for drinks and they were not very busy. They also warned us about sand flies, so we used off and did not even go the beach, just used the upper pool which was high above the beach. My wife got 11 bites anyway. When we left, we were half way back to the ship, he had to turn around for 2 more passengers, we get there and there are 6 more, but only room for 4, and there was another van coming in 10 minutes. We should never had to go back for any of them. We complained to the excursion desk, I told them I didn’t want any compensation, but rather they needed to know the terrible experience to drop the excursion. They listened and then told us that we had our allotted time, I explained we did not since we were an hour late getting there and picked up and hour early. Again terrible customer service. Bottom line the service has declined! Read Less

I will try to be brief and to the point. First the hits 1. Embarkation was very smooth. You go in by groups and can be enjoying the buffet by 12:30. 2. The entertainment is very good. The "Rock of Ages is killing it, however it is not appropriate for children or guests who are easily offended by sexual innuendo and scantly clad dancers. Burn the floor is excellent though I recommend their show in the Manhattan room, and it is only 30 minutes and the numbers are fast paced. The game shows are great but do depend on the craziness of the guests.I did not see the velvet show. The comedians were simply ok, same ole jokes about cruisers. The magician was very entertaining as he uses shy guests as examples. 3. Food was mediocre to just ok. I found nothing outstanding. I did not try the pay restaurants because why pay twice for food? 4. Service was again ok. I had very nice servers in the Manhattan room, Rihzel and Jeffrey were awesome. Other than that nothing special. 5. Ports Rotaan was fun, Harvest caye useless, Coste Maya a little seaweedy, and Cozumel was awesome, I went to an adventure park and snorkel for three hours. 6. Debarkation was again very smooth, off the ship in less than an hour. Read Less

Elevator system on the Horizon was HORRIABLE. We took the stairs most of our cruise. They also need to have a separate elevator for the handicap and scooters. my mother had to spend most of her time in the room because of the lack of working elevators on the ship. Our stateroom was only cleaned once day after asking for twice a day am/pm. Food was not that great. Mike the cruise director was excellent he made the ship experience a little better. Also they need to start breakfast at 6am instead of 7:30 some folks get up early. Guest services employees need to be a little more friendly to there guest and not have attitudes. I have cruised on Carnival several times this was the worst. I do plan on crusing again on carnival to give them another chance and if no improvement I will be going on another ship.. Read Less

Stayed in 7458 which is an aft-facing Havana balcony. This ship is so immense, having access to the Havana-guests only pool deck was a vacation-saver. Lido pools were constantly jammed, but most I ever counted in the Havana pool was 14 one sea day. Some different shows on the Horizon which is a nice change of pace from the repeats in the rest of the fleet. However, the volume is ear-splitting. I complained a few times to no avail. One Liquid Lounge manager said they check the decibels every night. That may be true, but they are setting the volume way to high. You can't even understand the lyrics from the singers. It was so bad, my ears are still ringing three days after our cruise ended. Our itinerary was the 6-day from Miami with stops in Ocho Rios, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel. Ocho Rios is kind of dumpy. We did not do an excursion but wandered over the Margaritaville (which is just as lame as all the other locations). Touts descended on us nonstop, with some even calling to us through the fence in the port area. We stepped onto our balcony during docking and it already reeked of ganja. Our Cozumel excursion was canceled due to lack of interest: Elite Champagne Sail & Snorkel. Kind of surprising as there were three Carnival vessels in port that day. Pretty much stayed in the Havana area. Lido deck was jam packed with blasting music from a DJ, and a bunch of idiots who brought their own speakers. The cacophony was too much to handle. Elevators work fine if you use them correctly (press button once for each member of your party). Problem was that people in general are morons, and would just press the button once or just ask if a car was going up or down and jump on without pressing a button. Smart elevators, dumb people. Some crew was great. especially Havana and Alchemy bar staff. Atrium bar staff was efficient but not at all friendly. Piano bar player Dara was excellent, but you had to tolerate her playing her own stuff and constantly reminding people to tip her (which I don't blame her for, because the hayseed crowd seemed to not understand the concept of how a piano bar works). I researched everything about this cruise before we left. Hours and hours of research. So, now that we have concluded our cruise (returned today), I wanted to give you all those details and information while it's still fresh in my mind. Would I personally go on this cruise again? Absolutely not. Where do I start........ Parking is a little bit of a pain, probably depending on when you arrive. We didn't get there until around noon and the street in front of the cruise terminal was at a crawl. Book your parking early!! I waited and most lots were full. However, we went with the actual Port of Galveston parking (indoor garage) and it was perfect. It was right across the street so we could just walk and didn't have to deal with a shuttle bus. It was $105, and by booking online, you save $5 so it was $100. The line to get onto the ship was long, but moved faster than I thought it would. It took about an hour. Print out your sea pass paper before you go! The line for those without this was much longer. Also make sure you put all your passport info, credit card charging info., etc. into their system BEFORE you go. We got onto the ship at 1:30 and rooms were ready! I'll review the rooms in the other section at the bottom of this review. We headed to the buffet, and it was a crowded mess. Honestly, it drives me crazy how people are so rude. They cut in lines, they stand in the middle, they push, the list could go on. There was no where to sit. It was awful and at this point I was really regretting booking a big ship. Suitcases arrived around 6. We booked the 3 specialty restaurant package. The restaurants were good, but not fabulous. I am a huge foodie and love to cook, so I'm probably much more critical than others. The Italian place was the best, with Chops coming in second. The other nights we did the "My Time" dining and made a reservation. That worked out well and we never had to wait. Dress code: NO ONE CARES (which is very sad)! That's pretty much what we figured out. Some people wore shorts and hats to the dining room and no one said a thing. On formal night, the majority of people did not wear formal clothes, but wore Church type clothes. There are no washers/ dryers to use, as some other ships have. You can have them do your laundry for $35, all you can stuff in a small bag they give you, and they simply wash, dry and fold. Not worth it in my opinion, but in a pinch, it's there. If you try to do laundry in the sink, beware that things take forever (days) to dry because of the humidity. Drink packages.....(My opinion): We had a party of 5 (2 adults, 3 teens). We purchased the refreshment package and it was $26 per day/ per person. Definitely not cheap, but the alcohol package was really pricey with tips added, etc. I would NOT buy this again. The lines to get drinks were long, and it was honestly a pain. Plus, the days you aren't on the ship, you don't use it much. We did use it for some specialty coffees (available in Cafe Promenade). I did use it for fresh squeezed OJ some mornings, but everyone else in the family thought it tasted weird. It was quite sweet, and not what I expected. (Fresh OJ is available in Windjammer at a little station). We used it for some virgin drinks and sodas. But overall, we would have been better off just paying for each drink as we wanted one. Even sodas were a pain to get because you had to go to a bar and wait behind the lines of people getting alcoholic drinks made. Food: Just OK. We've been spoiled with other cruise lines where the food was really good...(Regent Seven Seas, Celebrity, (even NCL was way better). It wasn't bad, it was just OK. No other way to really describe it. Sorrento's pizza was probably the best and we all loved getting pizza late at night. Shows: They were pretty good. The comedy shows were probably the best and also the most crowded. You don't need tickets or anything to any of their shows. Just show up about 15 min. early and grab a seat. The ice skating rink was really small, so our kids had no desire to skate. It would be best for little kids. Slides: Our teenagers said they were so slow and stopped mid slide. They did not try the one with the raft type thing because the lines were insane. Speaking of lines and crowds, they were AWFUL everywhere. There were also many times when we were bored on the ship. Pool is tiny. Lounge chairs go quickly so I just got up early each day and enjoyed my coffee out near the pool. It was calm and peaceful then, which I loved. Bring towel clips because it gets windy. WIFI was HORRIBLE! We purchased it for all of us and it seemed to always have issues. It was down for more than 24 hours one of the days. The other days, it was so slow and would only work on certain areas of the ship. For example, it would not work inside rooms or on balconies. The ship is old and showing it's age. They do a good job keeping it clean and for the most part, the employees seemed happy. I felt like everything was an "extra" charge, and in the end, this trip was more than double what I thought it would be. Disembarking: GOOD! We had an early flight from Bush. We knew we took a risk booking that early, and then Delta changed their flight schedule and made it even earlier. Our flight ended up being at 10:50, so we needed to get off ASAP. We carried off our own luggage. We went to the theater room at 7:15. Around 7:35 we were able to start walking out. Since we parked across the street, we were in our car and on the road at 7:50. It worked out perfectly. Read Less

We were on the Western Caribbean Cruise to Honduras, Belize, Costa Maya and Cozumel. We had a great cruise. The only trouble spots were embarking and disembarking the boat. We stood in very long lines for a very long time and almost missed our flight home. The boat was also very crowded. I couldn’t believe there were only 2 small pools on the boat. We were barely able to get in the water with everyone on board. Other than that, the staff was great, the shows we saw were very good and our excursions were really fun. We had good and bad food experiences. I highly recommend Teppanyaki restaurant. It’s not complimentary but worth it for the food and entertainment. Wasabi made us the worst sushi we have ever had so you might want to avoid that one. Our rooms were very nice. Room service fixed up our room up to 3 times a day without us asking. Every time we left the room we came back to a clean room. It was so nice. Read Less

9 out of 10 hand sanitizers are empty. Cabin is HOT! I have 2 fans that I brought on board and wouldn’t have made it without them. The two cabins next to mine received room credits because their rooms were so hot. Food: it is without a doubt the worst food ever. I’m you like bland carbs that taste less me cardboard then this cruise is for you. Only decent food is Guys Burgers. Nightly dining room meals are horrible. Food arrives cold and has no taste. Even the fried Shrimp was bad! Breakfast is no different.cold pancakes, waffles and lets not forget the hair in the hash brown! If you are planning on gambling know that the casino is full of smokers! It’s horrible just having to pass by it. This is not my first cruise. This is a 7 day cruise and when compared to Princess cruise that I was in for the same amount of time, there’s nothing in common other than they are both floating in water. I’ve been told that Princess and Carnival are owned by the same company and it’s very hard to believe. This Carnival cruise has been like a cruise for the poverty stricken compared to the Princess Cruise that was definitely and huge step up. Oh and let me not forget to mention the sewer smell! It’s terrible! Our cabin is on the second floor and the smell has continually been present in the hallway. They were busy trying to clean wet carpet which that I suspect was toilet overflow! My suggestion is save yourself the money and try a different vacation. Read Less

We chose this ship because it was going to Roatan, our favorite port stop. This was our 7th cruise and 2nd trip on the Breeze. The ship itself is starting to show her age. While we traveled on it they were touching up paint (much needed), and replacing the outdoor tv (missing many pixels). The staff and service onboard was excellent; enjoyed chatting with many of the crew. The ship is lacking allot of entertainment if you have teenagers with you. There were some sporting tournaments; however, they were geared towards adults only. At night you’d see hordes of teens with security not far behind. The buffet was lack luster- same thing for breakfast every morning, and no hash browns at all. The blur iguana is always an excellent choice for lunch and or breakfast. The pizza did not disappoint as I believe they have the best tasting out of any line. The embarkation process was very smooth; however, disembarkation was very poor and slow, compared to other lines we’ve been on. Read Less

We are in our early 50s with a 13 year old daughter and a 12 year old son. We just achieved Emerald with Royal. Full cruising history (Celebrity, HAL, Disney, Princess, Carnival) - is in the signature. We flew from Toronto to FLL on Air Transat via Pearson airport. Pearson was a bit of a disaster. The new (to us) luggage scanning drop-off system kept malfunctioning and the lineup was huge. We arrive at the airport for 5:30 with two hours to spare for our 7:40 flight. We have NEXUS so we felt two hours was appropriate - and even with the delays - we were fine. Others got caught in the delays and they held our flight for 40 minutes to wait for 5 families. We decided we would try UBER for the first time. The arrival started with someone approaching me and asking if we were getting an UBER - I said yes. He asked us to follow him. It was all very shady and did not give me a good feeling. We followed him ot the parking garage and despite lots of uncertainty, we loaded our luggage. I got in the car and it reaked of smoke. We took our luggage back and left and then proceeded to order our UBER. As UBER newbies, we were a little unclear on where to stand and of course, we were in the wrong spot. Our ride arrived and he kept calling me and just kept repeating his name and the vehicle he was driving. His English was poor and there was so much background noise I could barely hear him. Finally found an airport worker who pointed out the correct area (to the far left when you get out of the terminal) and we found our driver . We got to Terminal A at the Miami Cruiseport and everything went smoothly. We arrived around 12:30 and there were no traditional lineups by cruise status. We went to a line for those who already had a set sail pass, and there was no one in line. We went straight to an agent who scanned our set sail pass - and we were sent on the ship straight to our stateroom where the keycards were waiting for us with immediate access to our stateroom. It was the smoothest embarkation ever. A few random thoughts about our sailing, scroll down to the subject headings that interest you. Wine - we had two staterooms and brought 4 bottles of wine onboard. I bought wine travellers off Amazon. I am happy to link the ones I bought, if requested. I have to admit I was a bit nervous. The wine all went in my son's suitcase. His clothes were all packed in packing cubes (bought those off Amazon too). The packing cubes all went in clear recycling bags. The wine was placed in the wine traveller and each wine traveller was placed in a large ziploc bags, and then the four bottles in ziploc bags were placed in a super-large ziplock storage bag. I admit that I went a little overboard but better safe than sorry. I was also smart enough to pack a wine-carrier from the LCBO. At the airport, we pulled the bottles out of the suitcase and into the LCBO wine carrier. It made it easy to carry the 4 bottles on board. Security did a full examination on the wine bottles. And also wanted to see our documentation to prove that we had 2 cabins and that there was an adult in each cabin. This has never been verified before, so I'm glad we had an adult in each cabin. Cabins – we had two cabins Deck 7 starboard AFT. I was pleasantly surprised at how spacious the cabins were and how much storage space there was. On the left of the bed, were some shelves and room to hang clothes. On the right of the bed was a full length close. There was also a dresser. We had more than enough room. First time ever, we took the over-the-door organizer and didn’t need it. The Key - we did not have the KEY - but I found the program quite annoying to someone who did not have it. For shows in the main theatre, almost the entire center balcony was taken up and reserved for Key and Suite guests. Same thing in Studio B. Drink package - I pre-ordered Refreshment Packages for DH and the kids. Cards were printed indicating that they had the refreshment package. I did not set the kids up with charging privileges on their seaspass and this seemed to be quite problematic. Their first purchase was coffees at cafe promenade. We were told we had to open the sea pass. We went to guest services and their seas passes were opened. Then we went to the Vitality Spa - and again they had problems. I went back to guest services and a good lineup had started. I was playing broken telephone between the person triaging the line and the manager. She kept insisting the kids needed charging privileges. I finally had to insist the manager came out to see me, and then he set up their kids with a $1.00 charging privilege. The next morning I was back in line again because of problems and this time the charging privilege was raised to $10. The next morning, I had issues once more and had to go to guest services. This time they involved the head of beverage services who confirmed that a minimum $15.00 limit was need in order for the drink packages to work. This made absolutely no sense to me. We've had drink packages on Celebrity and the kids have never had a problem while not having charging privleges. This time, Guest Services took pity on me and we were given a generous future cruise gift certificate. The $15 limit appeared to be the magical solution and we had no problems after that. Chops - we received a complimentary dinner voucher from our travel agent, which we used at Chops on night 5. I had pre-trip questions about menus - we knew from the menus on the app that we wanted to miss the night 5 menu. At embarkation, we went to the MDR to check on menu order. We were told that the menus on the app were accurate, however the order would go 1,2,4,3,5,6,7. In the end, the menu order followed exactly as per the app and nights 3 and 4 were never switched. CHOPS was excellent and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meal. I was surprised at the number of kids, especially young kids, so this is far from an "adult" dining venue (yes, says the lady with two kids of her own!). My son were shorts on the understanding that if they turned him away he had to come back to the cabin and change. There was one man in a tux, but most men were fairly casual, with some men in t-shirts and casual shorts, and several men with baseball caps on. Casino: Blackjack is my game and $10 hands are my preference. There were usually two $10 tables playing multi-deck and one $10 table playing single deck. The $10 table did not allow you to take even money on a blackjack - you need to play at a $15 for that. Payouts on the $10 tables were also lower for blackjacks. Although there is a non-smoking side, the casino was generally pretty smoky - which gives Celebrity the edge for me. Dress Code - the dress code was far from enforced. On formal night, I saw plenty of cut-off jeans, shorty-shorts, hoodies and printed t-shirts. DH and DS did not wear suits on this cruise (which they were both happy about!) Both wore dress shirts and dress pants on formal night. DS (12) wore shorts and button-down short sleeve shirts most nights, although one night, he did a late arrival at the MDR wearing an ADIDAS t-shirt and although annoyed, I could hardly blame him given what most kids his age were wearing. Fitness - I can't recall if most ships are laid out the same way, but the jogging track is on DECK 5, and I happy to say I visited EVERY morning. I love the covered track as opposed to walking in the hot sun. Each day I logged between 19K and 20K steps. DS (12) had no problem accessing the fitness centre. He looks older than 12 and no one ever sought to verify his age. Perfect Day Waterpark- I had started a thread a few weeks ago regarding the waterpark – and the fine print stating that kids under 18 needed adult accompaniment. Well, that was much ado about nothing!!! I should clarify that my 12 year old is 5’9” and my 13 year old is 5’5”. My son looks at least 16 and my daughter could probably pass for 18. We stood at a distance and watched them try to gain access to the park with their VOUCHER ticket. They were told they needed the sea pass. They came back to me for their seapass. They scanned their seaspass and gained access to the park no problem. DH and I were both grateful not to have to purchase a ticket to the waterpark. For anyone little kids, there is a nice free waterpark area that would probably satisfy most kids up to maybe 8 – so don’t feel pressured to purchase tickets if your kids are young (or are not Thrillseekers). My kids both loved the waterpark. I had purchased full day tickets, but it was a hot one and they were both ready to call it by 12:30 - so in the future I would opt for a half-day pass. Quince Cruise- this was the much-debated (thread eventually closed) cruise. I did find the numerous large groups to be off-putting and will leave it at that. The most annoying part was 3 members of a group trying to hold down 20 seats in the theatre. We had one quince group on our floor and I have to say they were sometimes loud and inconsiderate, especially at 1AM in the morning – yelling and screaming in the hallway. I have no idea why, but formal night started for them at 7AM in the morning. I felt for the poor girls fully decked out in hair and make-up and full crinolin dresses. Entertainment. It was days into our cruise before I had any idea who the cruise director was - probably not until Hairspray. It was an installation of a new cast for Hairspray. The first show had two or three delays due to technical difficulties (one of which was a cast injury). My daughter (has seen hairspray in Toronto, on Oasis twice, watched hairspray the musical and hairspray live more times than she knows - watched it 3 times on this cruise. The second show went off without a hitch and the third show also had technical difficulties. We really liked 1977 and Flight and Hiro were also great. Comedy - Simeon Kirkilies is freaking HILARIOUS. Loved his Trump impressions. He should be the headliner - heck they should make him cruise director and give him his own ship. If he ever visits Toronto, I would gladly pay money to see him. WIFI - we purchased VOOM Surf and Stream for 4 devices. For some reason, our phones kept logging off everytime the phone shut-off - despite toggling auto-join. Must be an apple issue though. I found the WIFI slower than expected. I tried downloading a few shows off our home PVR and it took forever - although had no trouble watching shows from our PVR. Instagram and Facebook were slow to refresh, and often showed the refresh sign instead of updated content. To me, this should not happen with VOOM. Sometimes, logging on and off again seemed to fix the problem. It's still night and day better than Celebrity's WIFI. MY TIME DINING - we had reservations every night, and most nights we ended up in a lineup waiting almost 30 minutes to be seated. The front of the house seemed to be a bit flustered and not entirely in command of the seating process. There were two distinct lines for guests with reservations and guests without. However, one could bypass those lines and walk straight to the second or third podiums where they would get attended to. The set-up made no sense to me. MDR Food - overall we thought the food quality has improved, especially in the area of desserts. Debarkation – we had a flight home from MIA on Sunwing. Our flight was originally scheduled for 2:30 and eventually they cancelled it and connected us to a 4PM flight from Orlando to Toronto. I realize now that sunwing has a habit of cancelling/rescheduling and will not book with them again. We generally book early flights which has us taking off our own luggage at 7:30. This time, we had the luxury of time, so we stayed on the ship until 9:30. It was CHAOS at the terminal. Getting off the ship was easy enough, although we stood in line for a while. There was a special line for Canadian passport holders with almost no lineup. Then we got outside and it was chaos . We were unsure of where to stand for an UBER, and I was to cheap to incur roaming charges, so we decided to just get a taxi, and the line was CRAZY. Royal does nothing to manage the taxi line. There was a port worker at the front of the line. I’m not sure what his job was, but he kept saying it was not his job to fight with anyone, although he picked fights with at least two taxi drivers and kicked them out. Passengers were rudely bypassing the line, and taxis were being picked off at the back o the line while others were patiently waiting. We were not in rush, and other than the extreme heat being an issue, we were resigned to just wait our turn. The area should be roped off and the port authority needs more people managing the line. It took us an hour to get a taxi. Keep this in mind if you have a flight to catch. Overall it was a great cruise – probably our best yet on Royal. I would gladly sail Symphony again on a better itinerary. Read Less

What went well... 1. We loved the breakfast in the Horizon Restaurant. It was always hot and good variety from skillet pancakes, to french toast to scrambles and much more. We only ate at Lido deck one time for breakfast. 2. The pasta bar at Cucina was Excellent. 3. The servers in the Lido area, main dining room, etc. were phenomenal...always checking to see if you needed anything. Our stateroom steward Ron was excellent, very nice and genuinely asked how our day was going and remembered our names. We were in Room 7451. 4. The shows were GREAT in the Liquid Lounge and we loved the Havana Bar area with live Latin music. This area was open to the public after 7pm for whirlpool, etc. The violinists were great in the main lobby area. 5. We went as a couple with no kids and really liked the Serenity Adults only area on the 15th deck. 6. Embarkation and debarkation was super smooth and the best we've experienced. 7. Kyndall Fire the cruise director was very engaging and hilarious. 8. Pictures are all digital on the ship instead of the huge wall of paper pics that take forever to find. You can also see pictures on your TV in your room, and your balance. 9. Our aft ship state room was very nice and cozy. 10. We loved Roatan and Belize ports of call. We didn't get off the ship in Cozumel - we'd already been there 3-4 times. So we made it a lazy day. 11. Guys Burger Joint...yum.....Lido Deck was OK......nothing spectacular. Main Dining Room food was pretty good overall. 12. We met so many nice people and fellow cruisers and people were genuinely nice to each other..not all, but most. 13. Ship layout can be very confusing but you'll find your way. 14. Comedy shows were hilarious - we had Caroline Picard, Billy D. Washington, William Lee Martin and Dan Chopin and we went to the 18+ shows. Too funny! What was tricky.... 1. Lots of walking the stairs from slow or full elevators. 2. The 24 hour pizza would get crowded fast after dinner was over. They make it fresh so if the line is long, be patient because it's quite yummy. 2. Too many kids in the whirlpools and main pools. It was kinda ridiculous that kids are everywhere..........OMG. We didn't bother to do any main pools just the Serenity adults only whirlpools. 3. The view in the Main show area was bad in some areas due to polls all over the place. Get there early for a good seat but shows were AWESOME> 4. The smoke in the casino was terrible. We had to walk through it to get to the comedy show area and my clothes smelled like smoke. Beware! 5. Elevators were hot most of the time. Be warned. 6. The spa seminar we went to on accupuncture was not a seminar - they asked us to come back at 4:30 and we spoke to DR. Vu who couldn't answer our questions about fertility and asked how do you spell ovary and follicle. WOW. We signed up for a manicure since we got a $50 gift card but we got there and we were asked to come back since they were 'backed up' and were told there was a $7 tip. We just cancelled. What needs improvement.... 1. Carnival needs to be more strict and enforce the 'no reserving seats' policy, especially in the Comedy Club. One girl tried to reserve 10 seats for her family when the doors opened and she was telling people these are taken.....and it was happening during the whole cruise. All people need to do is come together as a group...simple as that. 2. Too many kids............I repeat, too many kids.........some of them ran and stomped at 12am and would push all buttons on the elevator for fun. Our next cruise will be in fall when there behinds are in school. 3. Blue Iguanna was disappointing because they served stale taco shells on one of the days. I didn't go back after that. 4. Not sure if Carnival can monitor this but in Belize, we did the Calypso Train Tour and it was $42 but we got it for $39 after Carnival guest services said it was sold out. The guys in port were selling for $25 but we found out they didn't take people to the train at all but to some non A/C van that almost ran out of gas. Read Less

We booked the cruise for end of summer, we had to stand in line at guest services 4 times the first day, because our cards wouldn't work for purchases or as our room keys! So our first day we stood in line at guest services for over 1.5 hours trying to get keys to work. At supper we were on anytime dining, so we went to dinner in dining room, we were greeted and seated. After 20 minutes, I asked a waiter, who would be taking care of our table? He immediately said I will send someone over shortly. If anytime dining is a problem for the staff, then do away with it! We didn't ask for anytime dining, that's what we were given. If carnival wants the vista to be there flagship, they missed the bar!! They have tried to include everything and left out the basics. An example of this, the casino is on the fourth floor, and there is not a mens restroom. The casino dealer told me the restroom was on 3rd level for the men. Makes no sense. If you have a womens restroom go ahead and spend the money for a mens restroom too. Again Thursday evening we are standing in line at guest services, card is not working again. They have our credit card on file, all charges are to go to the credit card, and guest services said our card is inactive, but she didn't know why? Guest services reactivated our card, and now we can make purchases again. Guest services has been a nightmare!! Supper on Thursday night, I ordered lobster tail which was an additional $20, the waiter brought me 2 lobster tails, I cut into the first one and took a bite. It was like a rubber band, overcooked!! I informed the waiter that it was not good, he kindly took it away, and explained that I would not be charged the $20 for the lobster. I thanked him for not charging me. Generally the table is cleared and then dessert menus are brought, not tonight! My wife was still eating her supper, and here comes the dessert menu. I know this was because I returned the overcooked lobster. Highlight of the cruise for us was the comedy show on Thursday evening and Mr. Sanchos at cozumel. Mr sanchos is not a carnivasl excursion, but is worth every penny. JiJi Chinese restaurant is a great place to eat! Cost like 15 per person, but you get way more food, than you can eat. Unfortunately, we have already booked the vista for December. Hopefully we will have a better experience in December. Read Less

This review is for the Carnival cruise ship The Dream. The staff were super nice but could not understand or speak english very well. The ship was begining to show its age and had several rust spots on the balcony . But the worst part was the unkept look of the entire ship. All of the windows were dirty and had streaks of dirt that looked as if it had been there a while. The carpets in the hallways were stained and looked in need of replacement. The balcony sateroom that we were assigned to was 2 doors down from the exit hall. A large family made it a meeting point every day at least 3 times a day. They would yell up and down the hall for their other family members and scream and yell at their children as they disciplined them. This happened several times a day. Right after we embarked our steward stopped at our door to deliver complimentary water bottles. She knocked and banged on the door and stated that she had complintary water to which I replied not now. She then used her pass key to let her self in. Imagine my surprise when the door opened and I was standing there with no clothes on and my husband was in the bathroom. There seemed to be a lot of confusion in the dinning room also, as most of the crew did not understand or speak English very well. However, our main waiter Walter did his best to try and smooth things over. The Food....The Mahi Mahi was over cooked and was replaced with Salmon that was undercooked. While the food was very well presented it lacked a lot in taste. The overall cleanliness of things was discorning. There was often drinks and ice spilled in the elevators and crew members that were looking the other way at the girls as they were cleaning the plexiglass of the stairs. Overall we were very disapointed in our cruise. We were a repeat customer but have decided that next time we will choose a different ship and propably choose a different cruise line. Read Less

I’m only 13 so I really love entertainment and circle c was the most of it. The advisor Josh was amazing. He cared for everyone there, made conversations, and always made sure nobody was doing anything bad. I’m going to miss circle c only bc he was so great. In all the experience was memorable. Today was the last day and I am home but i really miss it already. I forgot to mention but the customer service was also awesome too. So as the Arcade which was a blast, bingo, and the pools as well. I know i’ve said this many times before but i really really really love this cruise and i recommend to use it. In all I had a awesome time and really hope to come visit again sometime. Read Less

I have nothing bad to say! There is always something to do. Between the movies on deck 9 and the theater. Also there is a lot for the kids to do. Getting on the ship wasn’t a problem. We boarded at 12 and was actually on the boat at 11:30. They got us check in early. Cause we were there early. It was so peaceful. You never feel the boat move unless the wind at night is a little strong. But still it was lovely and run! I’m actually planning another one. Both my bartender at the red frog and the casino knew what i wanted to drink and i never had to remind them. They were awesome and sweet. Would call you by name and even set and talk with you for a while, when they could. Read Less

I chose this cruise because it was going to Cuba. Through no fault of MSC, they could no longer go. I still decided to keep the cruise. I wished I had canceled. I have cruised about 10 time at this point, and expected the norm with this one. First thing, the ship is old, there were missing numbers off the elevator buttons. There were areas on the boat, that you could see the water in the carpet. My brother went to use the men's room on the 5th floor and all the urinals were taped off and could not be used. The thermostat in my cabin was hanging off a nail. The plastic holder for the remote was coming apart. The one in my daughter's room completely fell apart so there were screws and the small plastic parts that her 17 month old son could have easily swallow. The food was horrendous. I literal spat the piece of Salomon out of my mouth. We stopped eating in the dining room after the 3rd day. The café, while there was crappy food there as well, we were able to find something to hold us over till we got to land. The ship on two of the stops, only reached the island at 12 noon and we had to be back on the boat by 5pm. The last stop, they had ferries taking us to land, we did not get to the island till minutes to 2pm and had to be back by 5pm. I never saw the cruise director, the sail away party was some canned music. The highlight of the cruise was getting to the islands The staff was mostly Hispanic and would either did not understand when you asked a question, or acted as if they did not understand, they did not smile. I had one guy speak to a gentleman right in front of me, but then held his head down and walked past me. My sister was given a glass of champagne, it was never removed from the room, we left the ship and the glass was still in the bathroom Read Less

This message is to warn anyone planning on having a Carnival cruise wedding to NOT DO IT! If it weren’t for my family and friends the entire memory would be a disaster! I planned a carnival cruise wedding on the sensation on July 30,2019. Upon deciding that I would have the wedding with Carnival I submitted all my documents necessary so that the wedding planner on board would be informed of all the details I requested. I paid for the Carnival Classic Platinum package. I had 12 cabins booked full of guests in addition to the suite I paid for. Upon arriving on the ship July 29th, I was told that I’d meet with my wedding planner Victoria right away.. that didn’t happen. I sought her out for the first hour that I arrived and she was not available. She finally reached out to me to let me know that we would meet later in the evening to discuss the wedding details. We met and she seemed friendly, I told her that I wanted to start the ceremony with a bible reading from my brother and proceed with the wedding by the captain. She agreed. I paid for a DJ and requested a blend of music. She agreed. I was told everything would be punctual and you can imagine it wasn’t. The day of the wedding comes and it was set to begin at 2pm. I waited outside the lounge for 20 minutes because the LOUNGE WAS NOT SET UP by her nor the staff responsible. (I have the entire wedding recorded with time stamps in case anyone on Carnival wants to fight me on this). The ceremony begins .. guess what? My brother isn’t able to start the ceremony with the Bible reading. There was no order after the ceremony ended and I walked out, the wedding planner asked if I wanted my brother to do the reading. I said yes so I walk back down the aisle and then leave. Already chaotic and awkward but I deal with it. I was told to stand outside to be reintroduced.. the bar should have been opened for my guests by 2:30 being that I paid for a full hour of open bar. It was 3 pm I was waiting outside to be introduced and the bartender with the most disgusting attitude refused to serve my guests drinks. I also had “specialty” drinks that came with the package she also refused to make them. Her attitude was horrible and mortifying. Again, I didn’t want to ruin my moment so I just rolled with the punches. During the reception we had the cake cutting ceremony. The staff serving us did not provide my guests with cake! They had to cut pieces for themselves!! We also had leftover cake from the reception, my wedding planner said they would deliver the leftovers to my cabin.. I never received that either. The DJ, that I paid extra for played nothing of a mix I requested. Possibly a total of 3 songs at a low volume nonetheless. Although they ran late, they did not hesitate to end the reception at 3:30 on the dot. To the point that I requested one last drink and the bartender slammed the door in my face. I wish I knew her name because I truly would personally send her a note of what a horrible person she is. So I lost out on time at my reception for not being introduced until 3 and can’t even get an extra drink although we were robbed of 30 minutes.. nice right? An experience you paid for! At the end of the reception I left to take pictures. My cousin who was helpful throughout the wedding planning and brought souvenirs and extra decor told me that The wedding planner also was nasty and demanded that She clear everything off the table and tell all the guest to leave. She said these words" you need to get everything off this table and clear out your guest out of this room right now". I’m beyond distraught with the treatment of carnival and its staff they ruined a moment and day I’ll never get back. Not to mention spending $10,000. I paid for a service and expected to receive instead got treated as an inconvenience. In addition, no one on the ship is willing to accommodate your complaints or even care to hear you out. Carnival should be embarrassed at their service or lack their of. Read Less

Platinum cruisers. We chose this cruise because of the itinerary and cruise length. Embarkation in Miami was the best we have ever experienced in Miami. Parking garage could use a bit of TLC but overall the experience was good. Arrived at 10:50am and we were on the ship at 11:00am. Cabin was ready so we were able to drop off some carry on items and go to explore the ship. Cabin was a bit small for a balcony. No couch just a chair. Ship is older but overall in very good condition. Lido buffet never seemed over crowded in lines. Most lines were for pizza and the deli. Main dining room dinner service was good...not exceptional. Food in dining room was okay. As was our experience on our last Carnival cruise. Just not feeling the dining room dinner cuisine. Guys Burgers, and the Cantina were great as always. Bar service was quicker to go up to the bar rather than wait for wait service on pool deck, which is fine. Only visited Alchemy Bar one time on this cruise. Entertainment in the main lounge was very good. The shows were good, and the the performers were good. Deon the Cruise Director was always around and did a great job. Our excursions were great and I will review separately. Sea Day Brunch was not as good as previously. Dining Room breakfast was okay...had the avocado toast. We self assisted leaving the ship for the first time and all went very well. Overall this was a great cruise. Read Less

The frustrating: Beginning at embarkation, things were just rough. The people checking us in were unfriendly, and our keys to our rooms were not correct. Once on board, the main water slides were not working (the entire week), the adult only pool was closed (the entire week), and customer service was deplorable. Customer service was not only rude to me, but I heard them be very rude to several other passengers. The entertainment was not family friendly although it was advertised as Cirque Dreams when we booked. One show was 18+ and the other was a burlesque/cabaret. Also, no more towel animals. The first 24 hours, our toilet quit flushing 4 separate times. The good: We were in a mini-suite balcony - 13228. It was a very nice-sized room for our family of four. It offered a king bed, a couch that made out into a single bed, and a murphy bed that folded down from the ceiling. The bathroom was nice sized and the shower was huge and had great pressure. We enjoyed dining on this NCL a little more than in the past. The best entertainment we've seen on 4 NCL cruises was Sy Norman's Pourhouse band. Fantastic singers, nice people. Read Less

We were a family of 4. When researching this vacation, we found that the ship was attractive, the amenities were attractive and price was competitive. There were also some extra perks included. We have cruised with Royal Caribbean before so this is our point of comparison. While the ship itself was nice (see pros below), there were many disappointing aspects: - the pool was too small to enjoy it. for the size of the ship, it should have been double the current size - the sun deck did not have enough space so it felt crowded all the time and not enough shady areas - the freestyle dining was a plus. no set times to work around. however, the complimentary options were sub par compared to other ships. they seem to focus on specialty dining and enticing customers to spend more to dine at these restaurants. This can be expensive for a family of 4. it also reduces the value of the vacation price. - we found many employees not as friendly as we have experienced in other ships. they seem to be somewhat overworked or not well trained. our stateroom steward was not friendly at all and seemed annoyed by our requests. One time, we came back relatively early from excursion (around 2 pm) and wanted to shower and then head out to lunch on the ship. He had not made the room yet and when I let him that we will heading out, he said that this would be after his shift is done and he will not be able to do it. We had left the cabin the entire morning and he did not have the time to clean the room. He was very rude and this showed me both lack of customer service skills and perhaps stress of being overworked. - the entertainment on board was not great. We enjoyed the dance and the magic shows but that's about it. many shows are not appropriate for children and some shows cost extra which again reduces the value as with dining. On at sea days, there were not many things to do so we spent them relaxing instead - The TV in the cabin has barely 5 or 6 channels. Most of them are news. No kids channels. Very disappointing - Long lines to customer service and shore excursion desks - Too much sale attempts by marketing staff for casino, games, next cruise...etc taking time from other activities. Some of the pros: - Ship itself is nice. The touchscreens are useful to get you around. Elevators were fast - Many staff were welcoming and helpful especially at the restaurants (though again some of them were not as courteous) - Photographers were very good. We got many nice portrait pictures. Prices were outrageous but we had an offer for a package of 25 photos which we were happy with - Rope course was amazing. Nice to be up there while ship is sailing. The plank was thrilling. Zip line was short but fun - Water slides were fun (though 2 out of 4 were not functional throughout the trip) - When coming back from port day, staff were welcoming with cold water and lemonade as well as wet face towels which was nice and appreciated - The itinerary was excellent. We enjoyed Roatan (a must destination for beach/snorkeling), Harvest Key (my wife's favorite: clean beach, large pool, many activities), Costa Maya (nice waterpark), and Cozumel (nice clear kayak and snorkeling experience though not as pretty as Roatan) Overall, this was our first Norwegian cruise and we all agreed that we will likely go back to Royal Caribbean in the future Read Less

My husband and I have taken several cruises over the past few years. This was the first time with Norwegian. We were absolutely blow away with the top notch service we received. It began with embarkation, easy, quick and with a warm smile. This set the tone for our week. The food was absolutely delicious. We tried everything on the menu throughout our trip and we were never disappointed. Our room steward Emanuel went overboard (no pun) to be sure our room was always stocked neat and clean. Alexandrea our restaurant hostess was so pleasant. She was very Intune to all the details. We needed to ask for nothing because the crew was always a step ahead and somehow predicted our needs. How they do I we will never know but they made this the MOST relaxing and truly enjoyable trip we have ever taken. As soon as we got home we made a few phone calls to family and friends to plan a 2020 trip. We will never take another cruise with any other line going forward. BEST VACATION EVER!!!! Read Less

So I got an account on CC and started reading some reviews and really dont understand what people are complaining about. This is our 1st time on Breakaway, we been on Getaway twice so we knew everything already and seen it all before. Same ship pretty much. So clearly we love Norwegian. We went on Royal Oasis in between but came back to NCL. Its always just my fiance I, no kids, rarely another couple. We pay to get away. Just relax and enjoy. I swear I dont even think about money or work. Everyone will make money, time will never be made so enjoy it. If you have to pay a little extra, you'll be thankful later for the memories. We got the packages, the dining, wifi, drinks, discounts. We didnt even make it to all 3 dining options we could have had, left my phone on airplane mode the whole time except twice onshore to check on the dogs, we aren't pissed. We had a blast, we made friends, we made memories, and yes, we spent money that we weren't planning on, big deal, well worth it. I highly recommend to leave your babies at home, put the phones down, and have some fun. 35/32 M/F Read Less

We got the port around 12pm and it was madness with all the porters taking luggage and people trying to figure out where to go. Eventually, we got inside and started the lines to check in. It was probably a process of 30 minutes. It was a bit unorganized because some lines were going the wrong way and then people had to turn around and do another line. Once on the ship, we went to the cabin and it was dirty. I called the cleaning service and there was no answer. I finally was able to speak with operator and they said that the cabins were not ready yet and i had to wait for the announcement that would notify that cabins were clean and ready to enter. I think the announcement was made around 1:30pm. Everyone in the atrium cheered when the announcement was made. I had requested for them to separate the beds and they didn't. I called cleaning again no answer and finally after trying 5 times to the operator, they said to request that at turn down service. I went tour the spa facilities and the tour was very informative and i ended up choosing to get the spa week pass. I think the spa week pass was worth it because it's a great place to unwind and getaway from the other thousand passengers on board. The people is the front desk of the spa were always polite and friendly. The gym was also nice and it had everything you need for a good workout. When it was evening, we had to request again for turn down to separate the beds and they did. The first night, we went to Taste restaurant, that has the same menus as Savor and the Manhattan Room which are the gourmet formal complimentary restaurants. I brought a bottle of alcohol to drink and we were seated quickly. I asked for an ice bucket to cool the alcohol and glasses. They took about 8 minutes to bring the ice bucket and about 15 minutes to bring clean glasses. It was a bit irritating. The food and the service was good and friendly. Later that night, when i went back to the room and i had requested the cleaning guy to bring a pitcher of ice water to have for the night and he said to call room service. Note: i have done this on previous cruises including norwegian. I called room service and they wanted to charge $7.95 for bringing me a pitcher of water. That seems ridiculous, so now i know that you have to bring your own cups of water to the room before going to sleep or pay for the water in the mini fridge. The first day at port, it was chaos to get off the ship. Very bad organization. This needs work. There were lines starting at the 6th floor to get down to the 4th floor. The other days, the process was smoother luckily. I got a massage one of the days at port. I asked for a hot stone massage. Aside from the massage starting 15 minutes later because the crew had to do drills, I was going with the flow. The masseuse assessed what i needed. I requested for some scented oil to breathe before the massage started and she said she was allergic to lavender. So i said that was fine and she let me inhale some citrus lime scent. She basically gave me a swedish massage and used the hot stones maybe 25% of the time in the whole massage. She didn't even leave them on my back. I asked her in the beginning when she was just massaging, when she was going to use the stones and she said the stones were too hot to use. That was not what i was expecting. Then her cell phone rang towards the end twice. After the massage, I notified the front desk about these issues and they apologized. 2 days later, the front desk said they gave me a small discount for that- it was $14 off which is not much considering the 20% tip that is automatically added on and she said that the phone ringing was the masseuse's smart watch letting her know the time. are you kidding me!?! I was not in the mood to argue, but that's not good service and i hope they correct this. The private island in belize is very nice and the pool is huge. the beach also has lots of chairs. Just one issue- there is no wifi! How do you go to an island these days and have no wifi provided? I also discovered on the 2nd day the spice h20 (i didn't remember what is was from a previous cruise) is actually the free adults area to get sun, drink and there's a small water feature and jacuzzis to cool off in. It was the same as when I was on the Norwegian escape.
