Magical and mesmerizing, but expensive and crowded. We booked group tours of the Basilica and the the Doge's Palace in advance so we never had to wait in long lines. We walked to Rialto bridge and shopped galore. Our historic hotel was located near St. Mark's Square. We stayed three nights pre-cruise and one night after, and did not want to leave. Read Less

We arrived on our international flight the day prior to embarkation and had the opportunity to stay overnight in the Dorsoduro area of Venice, chosen to be within walking distance to the PeopleMover, which takes cruisers from Venice to the port area. Next time, we won't wait until embarkation to buy the People Mover tickets, as we could have done so the evening before the crush of patrons, but everything worked out. Fortunately, we boarded our ship just before the heavens opened up with a fantastic rainstorm! The night prior, as we were walking around Venice and visiting St. Mark's Square, there had been several hours of lightening and thunder to entertain us, illuminating the alleys and architecture of Venice in dramatic fashion. Last day spent in Venice, we used the people mover and left our bags at a baggage storage for the day. Venice is amazing, take a gondola ride for €80 and just get lost wandering the streets

Venice is just too overcrowded with tourists. We did everything on our own which was fine - but it was such a hassle just to get to and from the ship. The vapperatto's do not go to Maritime stop -- and Celerity charged to use their service. You have to walk a good 10+ minutes to get to Piazza Roma to get the vapperattos -- or take the People Mover for 1.50 Euro each way which is basically a rip-off. Read Less

We stayed in Venice for a few days before joining the ship. It’s a beautiful city with lots to explore. Highlights were the tower on the small island of San Giorgio Maggiore. €6 to get the lift to the top and you can see over the whole city. It’s much quieter than the tower in San Marco. Also, the islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello are worth visiting.... especially beautiful Burano Read Less

We arrived 2 days pre-cruise. Through Viator we booked a serenaded gondola trip one night and a ghost tour the nest. Both were fun. Stayed at the Hotel Flora which was centrally located. Getting to the port was a breeze. We simply went to the San Marco boat stop and bought one way tickets and were dropped off right at the pier. Couldn't have been easier. Read Less
