Ah...Trier....looking forward to seeing the sights after a long day on the bus after docking beside a train track overnight and getting minimal sleep. Except we see the sights from a bus, viewing historic sites and ruins as we drive past...trying to take pictures through the windows. WTH? Then walk through town in the afternoon after passing by ruins that would have been interesting to be able to get out and walk to see, only there isn't enough time even downtown, so we get to the cathedral where the guide realizes that he has to meet our cruise director so leaves us to see the town on our own. Then we walk back to the bus in the dark, waiting for our boat to arrive in town so we can finally get back to it and have some food vs sitting in the bus all day... Read Less

Two free tours were offered here. The tour of Roman Trier took us through a number of remains and reminders of the imperial Roman presence. The guide was very thorough at some points, but gave no guidance at others.

Interesting and informative walking tour of Trier. Viewed Roman ruins, including the Porta Nigra. An hour free time to visit some buildings on our own. Worthwhile.

The Viking dock parking area and access to the ship was under construction. The rainy weather made it muddy and slippery affecting shoes, clothing and luggage. Had to walk to and from the tour buses. People with mobility issues had it the worst. Tour and tour guide was excellent. Viking crew did their best under the circumstances. The low point of the cruise experience. Viking management must have known of the access issue and should have had a temporary carpet walkway laid. Over 160 people had to make the trek at least three times, plus any vendors stocking the ship. Read Less

Took the tour provided by the ship for the church tours and gardens. They handled everything. Highly recommend letting them handle the site-seeing when you get to a particular city. Well worth it!

Never knew there were so many wines to learn about. The sites to just look at is unbelievable. Each mile seemed to have a special beauty of it's own.

One of the real treats on our cruise. The Roman ruins and beautify town make this a real fascinating stop.
