Noisy coach passengers, only 6 Brits on board, rest were Spanish and Argentinians who spoke very loudly during the English commentaries!

This is the second time we’ve been in Tenerife. We went to the Palmetum this time. Entrance is quite cheap and the views are spectacular from the top. Not much to do really.

This is the port where we lost half a day due to Fred seemingly being unwilling to pay for us to dock earlier. Being very close to the capital of Tenerife was excellent including seeing the Carnival which was well worth it. It is mainly an event for the locals which was good to see. Why were Black Watch the only ship in port on the day?! Well done to Fred for this. The next day we walked around the town starting with the large concert hall close to the sea which has an excellent open air café / restaurant facing the swimming complex and Palmetum. We then walked up hill to the shopping centre with a large El Cortes Ingles department store which is good value for Brits! Back through the excellent traditional market and some of the old town. Getting out of the port is not so easy in Santa Cruz, there was shuttle but we managed to miss it. Ship stayed into the evening which was great, meant we could sunbathe and swim in the morning and then disembark in the afternoon. As we know Santa Cruz already, we chose to go to the very large branch of upmarket Spanish department store chain El Corte Ingles, partly in order to visit the food hall to buy the special Spanish food we like to take home with us, and it was the January sales so some good bargains but very crowded. We were in port until very late evening, so we went by tram to the charming little town of La Laguna (the tram stop is called Trinidad and at the end of the line, making it very easy). After visiting a museum, we went for lunch at an old Canarian Restaurant (Patio Canario) which is housed in an old building. Far from being a tourist trap, most of the clientele were Spanish - the food and service were excellent, as were the prices. The tram ride cost a couple of Euros and was a very pleasant journey taking about 20 minutes. Read Less

*Tenerife – Walked to the center of town (long walk and not as nice as it was in Cadiz). We got there on a Sunday, meaning that ALL the outdoor bars and restaurants were taken over by big families with a lot of kids (running and screaming around tables). We walked around trying to find some nice and tranquil place but this was not possible so we went right back to the ship. Advice: again take a ship tour, especially if you arrive on a Sunday! Took a taxi to the other side of island and visited La Laguna and multiple other little towns until we ended up for lunch at a seaside resort town. Weather was gorgeous and warm. Food and wine was great. Picked up big bottle of Spanish olive oil at local market. Forget to mention, the last week of cruise including this port had Christmas markets! Lots of local treats to buy.
