St Thomas -We had never booked an excursion with Royal before and I doubt we ever will again after this experience. We didn't have anything planned for St Thomas so we decided to book the 5 Star Island Excursion. Well to start off with after we exited the ship in port we waited in line until the tour guide came and got us, then we walked a short distance to the vehicle that would take us on our tour. While walking another vehicle hit me on my right elbow with there side view mirror, thank goodness I was not hurt. Very careless drivers in this port.So we board the vehicle and it probably seated about 25-30 people maybe a few less, 5 ppl per row and the front was like the cab of a truck only seating the driver, then the area that we sat in had no windows and was kind of like a safari vehicle. So we started off being dropped off in downtown St Thomas for 2 hours to do some local shopping, after that we headed up to Magens Bay Beach for some beach time, well the ride getting there was very scary as our driver was very reckless. I realize the roads are very curvy and narrow but there was no excuse for the way he drove.Everyone was holding on for dear life. At one point the rear of the vehicle scraped the cement as we went around a curve. The beach we arrived at was beautiful and we spent about 2.5 hours there. After the beach time, we boarded the vehicle again and headed up to Mountain Top 2100 feet above. Again the driver was speeding up the curvy narrow road to get us there. The brakes sounded like they where going to stop working as well as the transmission, he was ramming it in to gear as if it wouldn't go on its own.Everyone was scared and once we arrived on Mountain top I complained to the driver and told him we were scared and asked if he could please slow down on the way back down. The driver gave me some excuse that he had to drive the way he did in order to get us to the very top.Driving reckless and not caring about the people you are driving is uncalled for not to mention very dangerous. We paid $104.00 for this tour and it was not worth it, there was no info given as he was driving us about the are etc. The ride was dangerous and reckless and we paid for a tour, not to be scared to death.I complained to the Excursion desk and got a v/mail from the excursion manager telling me that we where the only couple that complained to them and that the driver has a good record, yadda, yadda, yadda. Very unprofessional in my opinion. So after getting this v/mail I went back to guest services and complained again and a nice lady named Barbara working there gave us a $40 refund because of the experience. She was not authorized to even do that but she did. Later that day she put us in touch with the excursion manager's boss and we spoke to him in person and explained what had happened and he did nothing except thank us for telling him what happened. I don't mind paying for excursions or anything else but I feel we should of gotten a full $104 refund after this experience. I would not recommend the 5 Star excursion to anyone especially if Baum is the driver, not sure how to spell the drivers name. Worst experience I ever had with Royal. Everything else on this cruise was fabulous!! Read Less

We arrived to the port around noon. We left at 7:00 We did not have enough time to do a whole lot. We did do some shopping right there in the Haven sight mall since it was close to the ship. Beware of the time you shop in the Diamonds international. I purchased a ring and was told tat they could size it for me in St. Martin. I took it to the Diamonds international there and they could not size the ring. They sold me the ring last minute and did not follow protocol to see if it could be sized. The People in St. Martin took care of it. Read Less

Our excursion was Kayak, Hike and Snorkel. I imagined kayaking around a little bay or area that we could just wander at our leisure, WRONG. When they say kayak, they mean it! We actually had to kayak through mangrove trees over to the tip of the island where we would be hiking and snorkeling. My husband and I haven't kayaked in over 25 years. We had a rough time at first, but finally were able to work together and move that thing the way it was supposed to go. The staff really helped. First thing when we got in the kayak, we leaned over to get something off the dock, and tipped over and landed in the water. I weigh 250 and they had to get a ladder to get me back on the dock, pretty funny. We were last to get to the island, and last to return, but a staff member stayed close, and we never felt rushed of stupid. When we got to the island we each got to pick up a hermit crab, and had a hermit crab race. Mine never even left the starting circle until after the race was over. The hike was nothing strenuous, rather a nice walk over a rock trail to the tip of the island where there was a small blow hole. Beautiful scenery. If you choose this excursion to snorkel and see lots of beautiful fish, don't do it, choose on that just has snorkeling. Snorkeling was nice, the water was really calm. We had life jackets on and actually had to swim out to where the fish were. And there weren't very many. We saw a few and a beautiful stingray and some ship-wrecked pottery. Near the mangrove trees on the way back did see thousands of little tiny fish swimming together. That part was really cool. Overall we had a good experience. Very physical work for me. But I loved it. Read Less

My favorite port thus far! We docked at 0700 am, got off the ship at around 0800 for our excursion. We did the Helmet Dive at Coral World. Took about a 20 min drive to Coral World were we had a 20 min safety briefing and headed underwater with our "helmets". It was a nice experience, beautiful coral and fish schools, only problem was a strong current. I suggest you take an underwater camera as they charge you $60 for a USB drive of your excursion (mind you, they took amazing pictures and videos but quite pricey). We relaxed at Coral World for about 45 min before heading back to the ship. Once back, we did lunch at lido and then took at $8 pp cab ride to Megan's Bay. YOU MUST VISIT MEGAN;S BAY IF IN ST. THOMAS!!! It is rated as one of the top ten beaches in the caribbean, BEAUTIFUL. It is only a 15 min ride from port. We were able to relax for about 1 1/2 hours, best rum punch for $5 in the whole caribbean! We headed back and still had about an hour to spare, we hit the shops by the port. If you want the cheapest liquor ever, it is in St. Thomas, plus its duty free and you're allowed 4 L per person if purchased here because it it a U.S virgin island! Can't wait to go back to St. Thomas. Read Less
