Absolutly the worst taxi service to town we have ever had. Friends with wheel chairs had nothing but problems finding someone to take them to the beach.

One of my favorite ports. The cable car ride up the mountain is a favorite of ours. You will be able to take panoramic pictures that you will treasure forever. It's nice and cool up there and a nice restaurant and shops. We spent our day shopping. The bargains are the best in St. Thomas. There is a mall within the shopping area, but it is deceiving, it is like a maze with little stores tucked away in corners and down narrow paths. Cobblestone walkways that thread in and out of other paths. Beautiful hanging plants everywhere. We found an ice cream parlor and stopped in there for an ice cream come and a few minutes to rest up. In St. Thomas, it also rained for the better part of the day. We ended up skipping our normal plan of going to the beach, and we ended up going to the Coral World Marine Park, which was just your run-of-the-mill aquarium for the most part. After we left there, we walked next door to what I think is Dawn Beach (I could be wrong), where it started to pour about 20 minutes after we arrived. We ended up just taking a taxi back towards the ship where we would then shop for awhile before returning to the ship. Just like San Juan, St. Thomas gets boring after that many visits as well, whereas islands like St. Maarten never cease to amaze me, and we have also been there 6 times. Read Less

After that we walked to town which was probably 2 mile walk to the shops. We shopped and walk around. We were the only ship in port that day so it was quiet, which was nice. One of the shop owners told us the day before there were 5 ships in port and it was crazy. Read Less

St. Thomas:It is always beautiful arriving in St. Thomas with the islands, and sailboats in the harbors. We were lucky to have only one ship in port today. Docked in Havensight with lots of shopping right adjacent. I prefer downtown Charlotte Amalie for strolling, just because it is a city and has more character and history. But this time I shopped Havensight and sampled some flavored rums in the AM and then we went back to the ship for lunch before heading out to the beach. I wanted to go to Sapphire Beach but I was worried about the wind, so we chose Coki to be assured of seeing fish while snorkeling. Took the open air taxi. Coki Beach is beautiful when you look out to the water, but otherwise it is a rather crowded (even with one ship in port) narrow strip of sand. We didn’t rent chairs as we were in the water most of the time. We bring our own snorkel gear. The fish were plenty as promised (as unfortunately they feed them). Afterwards, we enjoyed some Caribe beers on the beach before heading back. A little more browsing the stores and enjoyed some Virgin Island Tropical Mango and Summer Island beers. The sailaway from St. Thomas was beautiful as it was already dark and the lights twinkled across the hills. Read Less

Ask someone where to get it. (In a shop on the main street I found a child’s captain outfit with a whistle and sunglasses and hat. It was adorable. Too bad my grandchild is only 4 months old.) We tendered in and found it very convenient being downtown. On all previous occasions we had been in Crown Bay. Went to the Market, close to the tender dock, had lunch and visited a few jewelry shops. A great island for shopping.

Uhm. Well. I don’t know. I wish I had stayed on the boat or just gone to the beach. I will probably stay on the boat because it’s so spectacular next time. The shopping areas are all grocery stores, the alcohol is the same price it is in Canada and the people are extremely rude. I had a lady tell me to get out of her store because I was too fat. (I mean, I’m not small but I’m not like 300lbs or something. Not that that is an excuse to throw someone out of your store). I went back to the boat after that pretty dejected and rather upset. On top of that, the taxi that took me back, kicked me out half way through because no one else was going back to the boat and he left me standing in the middle of nowhere by myself, lost and confused til another one came along. By then i was in tears. it was a mess. Should have stuck to the beach. Oh well. Half of our cruisemates went to Black Beards Castle. I guess it’s not very castley and more housey, but not bad. They enjoyed it. It says you must be able to do 100 steps but they aren’t 100 steps at once, just over a period of a few hours. This would be an island I would suggest booking an excursion beforehand. They all filled up fast. The zipline wasn’t even available the first day aboard the ship. Next time I'm just staying on the ship, though. Read Less

We have been to St. Thomas three times. Several years ago for a week long vacation with our children, and most recently, on two separate cruises. If you have never been, then Megan's Bay is a very nice option, but other than that, the beaches are not that great. At least not any that we have found. On our previous cruise we did a beach excursion and were quite disappointed. This trip, we decided to skip the tours and just walk into town. We actually ended up walking all the way around the bay to the other cruise port where the Allure was docked and back. About 6 1/2 miles. We did a little shopping and I will say they have upgraded some of the shopping area since our last visit a couple of years ago. Read Less

Charlotte Amelie - we took a cab to the town and walked around. We hiked up the 99 steps to BlackBeard's Castle. For $10 we went into the tower and then visited some homes and an old hotel as we descended back towards the town centre. This was quite worthwhile and a break from jewelry and time share sales people. We had a 'local' lunch at Cuzzin's restaurant (Very good food) on one of the back streets in the town. This was our first visit. On anther visit I wold try on of the tours. If you aren't interested in jewelry etc. there isn't much to see in the town itself. Read Less
