This is a cool town to visit, with a mediocre brewery (Skagway) and a really good one (Klondike). It's fun to walk around the town. Most of the shops seem to carry the same things, but there is some authentic art.

The National Parks Service has a wonderful film and several other tours and talks that we enjoyed. The town is just what you would expect--completely walkable. We found a local bookstore there that was great.

We rented a car and drove up to Emerald Lake and Carcross. We had a nice day which would have been a lot more enjoyable if it hadn’t been 46 degrees with a frigid wind. Nice views along the way.

love skagway but it was very crowded with 5, yes count em, 5 ships in port including both the joy and the bliss. getting a shuttle into town from the port was dicey and very crowded. walked to the creek and pond area and up the path to see a few salmon spawning. very few...perhaps 5...truly local artisans. luckily we were able to find one and bought some lovely things. highly recommend finding a tour up to the yukon on your own (dyea dave is #1 for this in my opinion) and skipping the train. not too many were thrilled with the train and in fact heard many complaints.
