Panoramic Santarem tour and Santa Lucia Nature Walk: very enjoyable. We saw how tapioca is made, how rubber is harvested from trees, what brazil nuts look like in the shell, a lovely downtown/port area.

Santa Lucia Nature Walk took us to a privately protected piece of the rainforest in Brazil where we walked among the trees with a guide who identified the trees and explained their uses. Santarem Panorama was an included tour that included a cassava flour meal where we saw its traditional production. We also ate local fruits and sampled other foods and saw how natural rubber is collected. The tour included a small museum and cathedral. Read Less

Our excursion was piranha fishing. The crew were friendly and helpful. Sadly, the fish that I caught was not a piranha, but still it was a fun trip.

Went on the Piranha fishing excursion. On the way we saw the local meeting of waters, pink dolphins, sloths, and a number of different birds. My wife caught the only Piranha on our boat! So proud of her. We had a good time. We also went on the Saint Lucia Nature Walk excursion. It was nice to get into the rain forest but we really didn't see any wildlife. It was a little disappointing. We heard the city tour wasn't very good. Read Less

Hired an independent guide, Gill, who is a 3rd generation Amazon dweller. He is fun, interesting and full of information! A must if you ignore my review above and go on this cruise!

Wonderful shore trips: to the Manioc processing in an Indian village, which we were fortunate to have a guide, Paolo, who had been brought up there. A different Paolo, from Santarem, took us round the San Lucia Nature Walk in the afternoon, he had not enough information to give us about the types of trees, despite having a Portuguese tree 'specialist' from the estate with us.
