This is a beautiful little island and not very crowded. The visit to the the cave where the Apostle John received the book of Revelation was a very moving experience.

Patmos was lovely. We took a taxi to a quiet, clean beach with a nice taverna for lunch. It was called Agriolivado. A round trip taxi was 30 euro, which was the same price for renting a car for the day, so we probably paid too much, but it was worth it! Lunch was delicious and we got chairs in a nice shady spot. The water was cool and clear. Skala had very nice shops and pretty views all around. Go down the side streets to see interesting houses and plantings. Read Less

The buses only take you to the monastery and not the place where the Apostle John wrote the book Revelation. That's a mile walk toward town that is not mentioned in any of the guidebooks.

This port actually came after Santorini. It was a welcome relief. I was not a big fan of Santorini and all its crowds. 5000 people on a small area all looking at the same thing I can do without. This port however was elegant in its simplicity. We just walked around town, had the coldest beer ever( yummy) , sat on the side dock and stuck our feet in the water and watched the fish. It was perfect. Read Less

Another wonderful surprise. There seemed little point to this visit until we arrived, but what a gem it turned out to be. Taxis were waiting at the port, hustling for fares, and for a very decent price our driver delivered us first to the cave of St John, then the town and monastery higher up the hill and finally back to port for a swim and meal on the beach. This was pretty much all there was to do here, but it made the perfect day trip ashore. Read Less
